for those of you with brick houses - what color is your trim, shutters, door? i'm trying to get ideas for a new color scheme for our house. right now the houses has gold shutters, a muck green door, and a combo of muck green and off white trim. blech.

as i drive around looking at brick houses, it seems like everyone has black or white. and i think i'd like something with a bit more color - provided those colors are not muck green and gold.

thanks,

What color is your brick?

My house has ugly tan brick and ugly dark cream everything else. I was actually walking around the neighborhood today looking for inspiration for a new color scheme.

Our shutters are acutally aubergine, which is basically purple. It looks really good with our brick, which has brown and kind of purple undertones to it. The builder was a skeptic and thought it would look terrible...but now he recommends it to people who are getting shutters with our brick.

We're boring. We have black doors and shutters and white trim.

can you post a pic of your house? The style of it might help with ideas, as well as the color of the brick.

Our coloring is similar to that of jajacobsen's. Much smaller house, though.

Pictures are decieving! Our house is much smaller IRL than it would appear in picture. So much so that when we first came to see it after seeing teh ad, DH was sure we were at the wrong house! Truth be told, the house is tall and narrow. The rooms inside are quite small (cozy, as we like to say).

ok - please no comments on how butt-ugly the house is. which is why we are redoing it. (and if you think the front is bad - the shingles on the back are painted coral pink).

we are replacing the stucco on the front with some type of clapboard (of which i also have to decide a color for). we are replacing all trim and shutters. and we will paint the front door. not sure if there is money in the budget this year for an enclosure around the front door, since we also have to replace the roof.

lml any chance you have a picture of your aubergine? that sounds appealing.

jajacobson your house just says white trim and black shutters! it definitely works on your house.

Thanks - we're boring but it works (former owners selected these colors) so why mess with it?

For yours, how about pale yellow clapboard (like a butter color) and navy shutters, door and trim?

Not a decent one that shows the color at the moment. I'll take one tomorrow.

And your house isn't butt ugly. :)

jajacobsen i've actually been thinking a lot about a dark blue. our current townhouse is blue and brick, and i do have to say i like it. i thought about it for the clapboard colors as well, but then i feel like i'd also have to do the back and sides of the house in blue - and i think that would be a bit too much.

lml thanks, but i still think the house is pretty ugly. especially when you see the back. . .

for the life of me, i have no idea why the current owners painted the back coral pink. i'm just glad you can't see it from the street!

Here's my house with the brick and siding colors...you can't really see the color of the shutters that well.

And here's a closer shot of the brick and shutters together.

The shutters really look kinda brown until you do a second glance and see that they're more purple than brown. I like it. :)

Here is our house... it's hard to see, but the things over our windows are a dark green. I don't even know what you'd call them, as they certainly aren't shutters:

This is my parents' house (can't wait for the crepe myrtles to start filling out so everything doesn't look so dead). They have burgandy shutters and green doors and trim... kind of christmas-y when I first saw it (they had it redone last year):

We have white wooden siding on the second story of the front of the house (same placement as your stucco, Pixie) and the rest of the exterior is red brick.

Trim: white

Shutters and front door: dark gray

We have grayish blue shutters on our brick home it looks awful. Our brick color is hideous which is why we'll be painting I know it requires more than normal maintenance but it's what we want to do. The majority of the homes in our neighborhood are brick and many have been painted. We are painting our house gray and buying new black shutters. Our door and trim will be white.
