Why do people wear jeans or shorts/t-shirt to a wedding? Why do they think it's perfectly okay to "come-as-you-are" to an event that we all know costs *thousands* of dollars to host.
Is it so hard to throw on a sundress, or a pair of slack and a shirt...even just a polo shirt would be *miles* better than shorts and t-shirt!?!?!
This has always been a pet-peeve of mine, because I always make sure to wear a nice dress and try to dress *nicely*. It's a wedding for goodness sakes, not a BBQ!! Even if it *is* "informal" so to speak, or an outdoor wedding. Not all people can afford fancy ballroom wedding, however most people *do* want to feel like their wedding is a special day and I beleive *deserves* some attention to formality. Weddings are nothing like they used to be, where a woman wouldn't be caught dead without a hat and gloves!
LOL, okay vent over....

Agreed.
We just attended a very nice wedding last weekend. The brides cousins showed up in jeans. With holes. And hoochie tops (very revealing). They had all of the drunk groomsmen all over them. The groomsmen were 30+. The girls were 15.
Yeah, that's the type of attention you want at a wedding.

Here here! At my moms wedding, two of her friends wore jeans. They said they brought skirts, but didn't think the weather was right (kinda rainy). The chapel was in the SAME hotel as their rooms! They didn't have to go outside! Ugh. Granted it was a Circus Circus Reno wedding, but everyone else managed to dress appropriatley!

I agree,
that's a pet peave of mine as well. Luckily at my wedding no one was wearing jeans that I noticed. But I have seen people wearing shorts to evening weddings before and I've just been appalled.

I don't understand either. My FMIL was talking to my mom about what she was going to wear. She wanted to wear a flower sun dress - she is the mother of the groom and it's a 7pm wedding!!! Gees...
I would be embarrased to wear shorts to a formal event!

I agree...I was just at a wedding where girls were wearing skirts with tank tops...with the bra straps showing. We're talking bras in black, and all other colors, some even with writing on them. Would it hurt so much to wear a strapless for once? And this was after my poor bf spent fifteen minutes pinning my bra to my dress straps so the nude straps wouldn't pop out!
Another thing...for any girl trying to dress trendy...please make sure the dress fits *everything* appropriately. There was one girl wearing a very trendy dress, but she was either wearing a thong or no underwear at all b/c the skirt kept getting stuck between her butt cheeks! I kind of felt embarassed for her.

I totally agree....but not just for attending weddings! Most people look like schlubs all the time....at work, at church, at restaurants. Crazy!
My husband's butchy cousin wore khaki pants with a tucked-in t-shirt and Teva sandals to our evening formal wedding, and let's not forget the mullet she is always sporting.......horrifying!!

DH's aunt kept going on and on and on about how formal her wedding was going to be... for MONTHS before the invitations were to go out. We expected black-tie, she harped about it so much.
Well, the invitations came in and down at the bottom (where we expected it to say "Black-tie Optional") is said:
Formal Affair
No Jeans Please
I guess "formal" means a little something different in her world than it does in everyone else's

I think I have the topper of them all. I was in a wedding (given it was a very in-formal wedding but shhesh!) this yr where as soon as we got to the reception 1 Bridesmaid changed out of her dress, I was the other and stayed in mine. The bride had her shoes off asap. The GROOM and BM changed into jeans!!!!! I mean cmmmonnn!! Have a bit of respect for the day!
We got married in Vegas, but at a hall, so it was still a "formal" weddig (and an 8:00PM wedding to boot). We had one guy show up (after RSVPing no) with a date! They were both in jeans and she was totally hoochied up. In HER defense, she said she was told they were going to Vegas and wasn't told it was for a wedding until AFTER she got there and she apologized to anyone that would listen. You could tell she was uncomfortable in her outfit.
HE on the other hand, told folks when asked, something to the effect of..."I thought it was going to be a casual Vegas thing" (yeah, that's why we went through the time and money involved with invites, RSVP cards and the whole nine yards). My friends were ALL ready to kill him - I still can't believe he actually stayed for the reception (!) and then only gave us a $25 Macaroni Grill gift card (yes, I know it's the thought that counts, but that's the point, it didn't seem to be gifted with any thought!)

the worst thing I have ever seen worn to a wedding happened at my 2nd wedding. we had a very small informal church wedding and we were ok with casual dress but my now-ex-husbands cousin showed up with cow poop on his work boots... that had to be the worst in all history, I mean it was bad enough not to respect the fact it was a wedding but it was in a church.... some people
