DD (8mths) had a fever (101.5) over most of the weekend and has had a cold for about 2 weeks. We went in to the ped on Monday and basically was told to give her tylenol for the fever. However, her cough which was better mild has gotten a lot worse - it has become frequent and phlegmy. When she coughs, you can hear the phlegm coming up and her swallowing it. She also throws up at times when she coughs and it's all phlemy. Called her doctor and was told to give her 1/2 dropper of Pediacare cough medicine. However, it does not seem to be helping.

She has been very cranky and crying a lot. Her fever goes and comes but seems to have gone away today.

Has anyone gone through this and what did you do?

So far, I have her sleeping on an incline, steaming up the bathroom before her bath, running a warm mist humidifier and using saline drops and suctioning her nose.

Thanks!

My DD has had a cough since January that varies between dry and raspy/wheezy (she was on ibuterol for a while) and phelgmy hacking coughs that cause her to throw up all over me (twice since Saturday this week). She, too, gets super cranky (her sleep cycle is totally thrown off!) but she hasn't been feverish.

Unfortunately, we've been doing the same thing as you (except for the nose suction, as she is now strong enough to push away). Wish I could offer some better tip, but you're doing everything we're doing. I keep telling myself that all the viruses she keeps picking up at daycare are strengthening her immune system. I just wish I wasn't getting sick, too, but I guess she at least gets the benefits of my antibodies when I BF.

Hope your DD is feeling better and less cranky soon!

smiles33 Thanks! It really sucks when they feel so bad and are super cranky. Good luck too! Hope she feels better soon.
