Dh and I are thinking of going to Palm Springs in July or August. Are we crazy? I know it's HOT in the summer, but is it so hot you can't do anything?
We've been to Palm Springs 2x before, but that was in March and May...
so is this a really dumb idea to go there in the heat of the summer? will we regret it?

I live in Palm Springs and have for most of my life, so I thought I'd be a good one to reply to this.
I won't lie. It IS hot. Our average temps in July and August are around 107 - 110. BUT, there is always the chance it could be as hot as 125. Usually we have what is known as a "dry heat". I see that you are from NJ, so you are probably used to some humidity. Do know that 110 with 8% humidity feels cooler than 95 with 25% humidity. But, we have had summers where the humidity is around 30% with the temps in the 110s.
As for activities, it really depends on what you like to do. Early mornings and evenings are usually beautiful. Its just the 11 am to 4 pm that is really hot.
I'm not sure if this helped you in any way or horrified you! Everything IS air conditioned, so if you plan on staying inside during the heat of the day, you may enjoy it. The town is not nearly as busy in the summer.
If you have any other questions, just let me know!

Thanks Boksie!
No you didn't scare me! I am used those awful 95 degree/95% humidity days here in NJ, so the thought of just a dry heat is much better. When we were in Palm Springs a few years ago in March, there were above average temps and it hit 100 a few days. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. I'm a pool girl, so as long as I was able to lie by the pool and jump in and cool off I was fine. When it got too hot, I just sat under an umbrella and read.
DH is a golf nut, so i'm thinking he'll need to make tee times at like 6am before it's too hot out.
Other than that, we aren't looking to do much in the activity dept. We love it there since it's so relaxing.
Thanks for the info!!

You should be fine then! Yes, your DH will want EARLY tee times. Good thing about the summer, is the fees are usually much less! My FIL typically starts his golf games at 6 AM, so that he's done before it gets too hot.
Have fun!

I am from L.A. and I love to go to P.S. in the summer! Yes, it's really hot, but as Boksie said, dry heat is somehow easier to take than humid heat. You can get lower hotel rates in the summer, too.

i live in l.a. and am not the sun-worshipper type. however, i really enjoy palm springs during the summer; if i hang out by the pool, i just stay in the shade. hotels are cheaper (my favorite is the viceroy) and everything is a little mellower. great shopping and dining, etc. as all the previous posters have said, the heat is manageable for some reason.
