I don't deal well with let-downs and the past two weeks have been absolutely horrible; 6 concerts; two co-teachers quiting; eating lots of pizza. Now I'm back on track and ready for week 7.

jennylou You're doing an amazing job STILL! What's your total weight loss now?

57 pounds. I was at a standstill for a few weeks, but that's my own fault for going to visit family and going off plan (lol, I even had a double double). But, I only gained two pounds in week one and it came off by the following WI, so not too bad. I'm hoping to see the loss start back up with my WI tomorrow. :) Thanks for asking!

:( I cannot tell you how badly I just want to throw in the towel right now. :( I've been at this for about six months, and have had almost no results. I've switched up my workouts when I haven't seen results after several weeks. I've changed my eating habits and lost a pound or two, but turned around and put it right back on even when I don't change things up. I'm just really at a loss as to what to do. I know I've vented about this before. Plus, I know I need to be patient when it comes to seeing results, but after six months, I'm just really annoyed with myself.

What plan are you following? What are you eating? I find WW to be a great program, but you can eat nothing but crap on it and still be within points range, kwim? Sometimes, it helps to log your food (every bite!) to see exactly where you are expending your calories. Sometimes, it's as simple as upping the veggies - or the fiber. How much fiber are you getting? I usually eat a ton in one day. I eat two servings of fiber one which bring me to 28 grams right there (1/2 cup is one serving, but it's so low in everything that you can eat two servings and not feel guilty).

tgr68
05-19-2007, 11:15 PM
Jenny~I've been using Fit Day to track my caloric intake. I am really good about getting lots of veggies, but I know fruits is a place I need to work on. My caloric ratios are about 25% fats, 25% protiens and 50% carbs. I do my best to stick to whole grain carbs when I can, and I've worked really hard to increase my water intake. I honestly can't tell you how much fiber I'm getting in a day. It's been a pretty big adjustment for me as I tend to gravitate towards fatty foods, so I'm proud of myself for sticking to this for as long as I have.

Exercise has been a struggle, I'll admit. It always has been when it comes to non-organized activities. At the beginning of the year, DH was able to get a family membership to a local gym through work but ended up losing his job two weeks later. :( Since then, I've done workouts at home on our elliptical machine (which turned out to mess with my hip joints because the stance is too wide for my short legs), walking (1-3 miles), yoga, and pilates. Like I said I try to switch things up to keep my body guessing. I really wish I could get into one of the less expensive gyms around here, but finances have just been to tight to squeeze gym fees in there. I know though that I do so much better when I'm paying for the time there.

Well, unless by some miracle this week, I lose 3 lb, I probably won't make challenge goal, either, shellslake. *sigh* I have been really bad about eating, plus I have been OOT twice in the past two weeks, and now I've got all kinds of stress coming my way with the end of the school year functions, etc. Come on, tgr68, let's support each other through this! :)

I have to say, though, that I'm not too upset. Over the past three weeks, I've been doing pretty heavy strength training again. I'm telling myself that it's just muscle gain. Right? Right? Yeah, just muscle gain. That's it!

jennylou

tgr - it may just be that your body can't handle 50% carbs and lose weight. You might need to cut some of them back and instead focus on things like veggies, beans, etc. I know if I eat too many carbs (even just the good ones!), I won't lose anything. Also, make sure you are checking serving sizes. The amount of whole wheat pasta that you get is ridiculous! I have to add tons of veggies to mine to make it worth while - otherwise, I wouldn't be full at all.

I'm working on re-evaluating my ratios. The last couple of times I've gone shopping I decided to start buying ground turkey instead of ground beef to use in recipes, since it's lower in fat. Tonight I'm trying it in lasagna to see how it works. Last time I used it to make turkey burgers. I really liked it, but DH wasn't crazy about it.

In a lot of my "meat dishes", I use chicken - again because it's a low fat protein option. It is also really cheep around here because I live what once was (and may still be) in the fried chicken captial of the US. I'm not a fan of the fried chicken, but give me a grilled chicken salad any day of the week!

As I said earlier, I love veggies, so they are no problem. I'll eat just about anything there in just about any form - cooked, raw, canned, frozen, fresh, etc. Some of my favorites are green beans, broccoli, corn, carrots, bell peppers, onions, and asparagus. I don't get the asparagus or corn too often though because DH doesn't like either one at all.

Dairy is my worst offender when it comes to my fat intake. I love cheese, but even the 2% variety will shoot me way over my 25% on fat intake. I only eat yogurt every few months or so. It's just not my first choice in snack foods.

Carbs are my biggest food groups, mostly in the form of pastas (whole wheat when available) and 7 or 12 grain bread. I've found that the more I cut these foods out, the more I gain. If I stick to keeping these at 40-60% I maintain and lose a little at a time.

I am really bad about fruits. DD loves bananas, so we pretty regularly have those in the house. I will occasionally eat one, but it's not an every day occurance or anything. We also like to have strawberries and grapes in the summer months.

That's my diet in a nutshell. I try not to actually cut anything out, but rather eat in moderation.

Reenie~I know you are on a similiar caloric ratio as me. Is there anything you are doing majorly different from what I've posted?

BumbleB

tgr68- I just about could have written exactly everything you did. I've been at this for at least 6 months, I think maybe 8 and my progress has been SO SO slow.

My weight baloons each month with AF, and I have such a difficult time keeping that in check.

I try to cut back on carbs, and probably could more but I already eat pretty darn healthy (grew up eating healthy) and am not sure what else I could do. Unlike you, I'm good with fruit - bad with veggies.

I was getting so frustrated I majorly upped my workouts last week - they're not really longer just more intense. So I'm hoping that is going to help. Another thing that might help you if you don't have a lot of time to workout is to do moves that focus on a specific trouble area on your body. I'm doing this now with my waist/abs and with my thighs/butt. So far I think things are tightening up, I know if I keep building the muscle the fat will slowly go away. IT BETTER!

Hang in there - and just know that you are not the only one struggling with this. I have my days where I just don't think I can handle not seeing results, but you just have to be determined to push through it or you really won't get anywhere! Keep it up! :D

[expletive deleted]! I need to figure out how to have a busy month without letting everything go to hell. I'm starting a new cardio program today, and I hope that I can show a loss by my (early) final weigh-in.

tgr68 - Have you thought of trying SparkPeople (http://www.sparkpeople.com)? It's free, and its nutrition trackers are better than FitDay's. Besides the whole carb/fat/protein ratio, I track my fiber, sodium and calcium intakes. It will also give you meal suggestions if you want them. There's a thread on the Diets & Diet Programs board.

tgr68 I've been bad lately because of travel, etc. but...

Reenie~I know you are on a similiar caloric ratio as me. Is there anything you are doing majorly different from what I've posted?

Well, we don't use ground turkey; we do use ground beef that is 95% lean, though.

Also, we use skim milk. And I eat non-fat yogurt almost every day. The weight watchers almond cheesecake is delicious, as are Dannon Light and Fit white chocolate raspberry and Yoplait Light Apple Turnover. I think of them as desserts.

I try to eat 3-4 servings of fruit AND 3-4 servings of veggies AND 2 servings of dairy each day. Sometimes, that makes my fat dip way down, so I have nuts for snacks (and I love Planters Trail Mixes and Fisher Fusions trail mixes).

And I try to eat ~300 calories at each meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and then either a fourth 300 calorie meal or a 100 calorie morning snack and a 200 calorie afternoon snack.

Otherwise, I eat all of the things you said. I try to vary our dinners so that in 10 days' worth of menus, we have 2-3 vegetarian dishes, 4-6 chicken dishes (we only buy boneless skinless... my DH is funny about meat off of the bone), 1-2 beef dishes and sometimes I throw in a pork dish or something with turkey bacon. Tonight, I made entree-sized salads (Buffalo Chicken salad). Each salad consisted of two cups of shredded romaine, sliced celery, sliced tomato, sliced cucumber, sliced bell peppers, 1 tbsp. crumbled blue cheese, 4 oz. grilled boneless skinless chicken breast, 2 tbsp. light ranch dressing, and 3 tsp. hot sauce. They were very filling and yummy and only 270 calories.

Hope that helps! :)

That would be another whole pound! I'm going to eat good and drink all of my water. My only goal right now is to be in the 100's for my 5th wedding anniversary next Friday. If i come in at 201 something tomorrow it will totally be doable!

I know I had a really busy month, but I'm really sad about this. I was hoping that I'd be within reach of 200 by the end of this challenge. See you all for the next one!

Well, it's a far cry from where I wanted to be when this challenge came to an end; however, I ended on a loss, and after the last few weeks, that feels GREAT!! Also, after my vent I signed up for SparkPeople (http://www.sparkpeople.com) (thanks so much PG-Rated), and my starting weight for that was 176.4, so I'm actually down a couple of pounds since starting there! :D

Well, I missed by two pounds. I always seem to hit little plateaus in the middle of every ten pounds, if that makes sense. And, oh yeah, I was absolutely horrible for a couple of weeks.
