i went to a TU (trout unlimited) meeting last night w/ my DH about this campaign and it really interested me. i'm trying to spread the word everywhere i can:)
basically back the brookie is a campaign to conserve, protect and restore the native brook trout. even if you don't fish or even know wth a brook trout is i urge you to visit www.brookie.org and check it out. you don't have to be an angler to support this cause. some of the best volunteers have been those who have given their time to work on educational modules, collecting data and contacting congresspeople. please help!
Acid rain, sediment in our streams, habitat damage, and non-native fish threaten the future of this beautiful creature. Brook trout are considered an aquatic “canary in the coal mine”…in other words, their disappearance may be an early signal that our streams (and the watersheds which purify our water) are in trouble. --from www.brookie.org
