View Full Version : Cold Sore Tx during pregnancy
I'm currently in my 1st trimester and have the unfortunate pleasure of an cold sore. The cold sore is on my outter lip. I contacted a pharmacist and was told that topical acycolvir (Zovirax) "should be fine" and is the only thing that will actually treat the virus. My doctor is unavailable for consult.
Does anybody have any experience regarding cold sore treatment during early pregnancy?

My OB prescibed Valtrex for my cold sores during pregnancy and breastfeeding. I think she said it was ok for 1st trimester, too. You can lookup drugs safety at www.safefetus.com.
Sometimes I used a little dab of toothpaste (not gel) to dry them out. Not pretty, but it helped me.

my doctor perscribed Zovirax for me when I got a cold sore during my first trimester. I asked about Abreva and she said not to use it in the first trimester so I went with the perscription of Zovirax
