Todd really enjoys the show so I bid on and won some tickets in a charity auction to attend a taping of Saturday Night Live. We're just going to head up to NYC for the weekend to see it. I'd like to stay close to where the tapings take place. Somewhere nice-doesn't have to be fancy, but maybe a little funky. (The Plaza, been there done that.) I did like the Millenium Hotel near Broadway and I think right in Times Square. Would that be close? I'm not a fan of the Waldorf Astoria, and I am not sure that it's even close to where SNL tapes? Any recommendations are appreciated.
Thanks! :)

SNL is taped at NBC which is in Rockefeller Center. Times Square is definitely walking distance. (approx 5 blocks and 1-2 avenues depending on where you stay)
The Westin on 43rd St is nice http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1380
and so is the W Hotel on B'way

Both of those are close by and in the "heart" of the times square area.

The W is one of my favorite hotels in NYC. And in a good location for what you want to be near. Enjoy! It sounds like a fun trip!

I recently stayed there and IMHO, it is not as nice as it used to be. Starting to show it's age.

If you want top of the line accomodations, I don't think you could go wrong with the St. Regis or the Four Seasons. Both are walking distance to Rockefeller center and the rooms and service are amazing. St Regis has 24 hour butler service :) The oatmeal cookie pancakes at the Four Seasons...YUM.
Have fun.

Thanks, everyone! I always love the Four Seasons properties, that's for sure! The W sounds great too!
So sad to hear the Millenium is going downhill. It was a nice property when I stayed there years ago!
Thanks again! I will check into all the properties mentioned!

If you want fun, hip and funky then you should stay at Hotel Paramount in Times Square.
It's actually where SNL puts up a lot of their guests. It's really cool.

ETA: It's very hip and trendy so the rooms are pretty small and what not but comfortable, modern and the lobby is really cool.
My brother's FIL plays in a band that has been on SNL many times and this is where they always stay.
Hmmm, I'm looking at the website and maybe I'm wrong on the name. It doesn't look like the one I went to. I'm going to call my brother and find out.

Lexylou, I've been trying to think of the name of the Paramount since I first read this thread! Heather, I've stayed there a few times and it's definitely a "cool" hotel, interesting vibe and people. Kind of a hip European style feel. The rooms are TINY though. You might literally need to move a piece of furniture to get from one part of the room to another. Still, the lobby is great and the bar is really fun. It's right at Times Square so the location is ideal.
It was an Ian Schrager hotel, though I'm not sure that it still is. I just popped over to the web site and oddly enough it looks like it's part of Sol Melia (I didn't know they had U.S. properties).
I haven't stayed at the Muse Hotel, but that looks interesting to me as a possibility, also in that area.
Hey Heather. The Sofitel is amazing. www.sofitel.com

The W Times Square would be a good choice. The Four Seasons or the Peninsula are both very nice + close to to 5th Ave (shopping). There's also The Hudson Hotel which is fun and I guess "trendy" but I've heard the rooms are pretty small if you can stand it...
Let us know what you decide!

We stayed at the W and thought it was great. They have a bliss spa connected and use bliss products. I LOVED that. The rooms were small but I hear that all NY rooms are that way.
It was a short walk to Rockefeller Center.
Have a great trip!

We stay at the W on business, but St. Regis, Peninsula or Ritz Carlton on pleasure. I recommend the St. Regis, simply because their butler service is so nice.
And, by the way, the Plaza is no longer in operation. I believe it is being converted into condos.

Yes, that's the first thing I thought when I read the Op's comment 'Plaza - been there done that.' I was thinking - oh good because you won't be 'doing' that again! lol
I recommend Trump, but I don't know that it's THAT close to SNL. It is pretty fabulous however. :)

LOL nylons73, you learn something new everyday! Sheesh, we haven't even decided. I am waiting for them to get back to me with the show date choices and then I'm going to go from there.
Thank you all again, so much!!!!
