Just had my 34.5 week ultrasound yesterday to check the size....6 lb baby already in there!!!
Based on the ol' 'half-pound a week' generalization, we're looking at a very generous 8 lb or even 9 lb baby!
Did anyone else have an ultrasound at the end to check the size, and was it accurate based on what your little dear bundle weighed at birth?

I had an ultrasound in my 38th week and it DS measured very average. The predicted that if I gave birth on my due date, he would be ~7.5 lbs.
I gave birth smack on my due date and DS weighed 8.5 lbs. He was not fat, but he was long.

I had an ultrasound 1 day past my due date. They measured DS at 8 1/2 pounds. I gave birth 4 days later, he was 7lbs 13oz.

I don't remember the exact measurements, but yes, they were fairly accurate. However, from what I've heard/read - they are not always accurate!

No. They said DS#1 would be close to 9lbs...he was only 6lbs even!
DS#1 at 30 weeks measured 5lbs, I exacted a big boy. he was born 6 days late at 9lbs 20 1/2 in". I think it was fairly accurate.

I had an ultrasound 3 days before DS was born (at 34 weeks). They predicted him to be 5 pounds, 5 ounces. He was 5 pounds, 1 ounce.

Yes, my u/s was pretty accurate. DS measured 39/40 weeks at 38 weeks (at least, his head did!) and he was born at 41 weeks with a VERY large head. He was predicted to be pretty big and he was--8 lbs, 14 oz and 22 inches! Plus, I could just feel him in there, he was a big boy!!

I had a weight scan last Friday at 39 weeks. It estimated her weight to be 6 pounds 13 ounces. The u/s tech said the u/s can be off a pound, either way. She will be born Friday, if not sooner, so I will let you know what she actually weighs.

I had an ultrasound one day before I was induced (at 38 weeks.) The ultrasound predicted DD weight would be 10 lb 9 oz. She was born at 10 lb 4 oz. :D So yes, it was quite accurate.

I have seen cases where it is accurate and cases where it isn't. They estimated 6lbs 8oz for my sisters 2nd baby and he was 6lbs 9oz. For SIL they estimated 7lbs 4oz and her baby was 8lbs 15oz.

Mine was accurate.
They estimated DD at 8 lb 9 ounces two days before my scheduled c-section. She was 8 lb 7 oz at birth.

DD was estimated to be 9.5 pounds-ish. She was 9 pounds 2 ounces.

That early I was measuring in the big baby range. But, by the last week (with both pregnancies), the tech was fairly right.
Remember, it's hard to tell that late in the game. And an average size baby is 8 pounds (according to my u/s tech).

at 40 weeks she was estimated at 8.5 lbs. 6 days later at birth she was 9lbs, 3 oz. She either gained a lot more than the average 1/2 lb in her last week, or the underestimated a little
(All my friends they had always overestimated....I was pretty surprised by a 9 lb, 3 oz baby)
I had an ultrasound the day before I had my twins via c-section at 35w6d. Baby A measured 5lb 10oz and was actually 5lb 11oz, while Baby B measured 5lb 2oz and was actually 5lb 7oz. So they were pretty accurate measurements, I think! They did tell me though that the margin for error is pretty high late in pregnancy.

Nope. At 40w 6d, they said DS was 7 pounds. I gave birth at 41w and he was 9lbs 6oz.

I had an ultrasound at 37 weeks predicting 8lbs 10oz. I had him at 38 weeks and he measured 8lb 3 oz. So, I would say over a pound off.

I had a 32 w u/s and they est her at 5 lbs then...with birth weight around 8.5-9 lbs. She was 9 days late and weighed 9 lbs, 7 oz.

Not even close...I was induced at 38 weeks, and the ultrasound that day and the docs "feeling" the belly figured DS would be a little over 7 pounds. He was 9 pounds 10 ounces. Ans yes I had him vaginally.;)

Mine predicted 8lbs. DD weighed 8lbs 1oz at birth (a week overdue), so I'd say mine was pretty accurate!

no prediction through u/s, however with ds#1 I never asked for a prediction...but ds #2 I asked the day he induced me at 39w 6d and he said around 7lbs., he was right on the money at 7lbs. even!

Mine wasn't either. I was told I had atleast a 6 pounder at 33 weeks I believe so I was terrified he would be huge. He was 4 lbs 14 oz. and came at 35 weeks. He was long, 18" so I think that may be why they thought he was so big.
Nope...numerous u/s predicted a big baby ...."8, probably 9lbs" -- 7lbs 4oz at 39W1D.

My doctor did an ultrasound some days before my planned c-section and they also did one at the hospital the day before my DD was born. My doctor was exactly right with his prediction (8lbs) while the hospital doctor was totally off (6lbs). My DD was born at 39w0d.

No. We had a 3-D ultrasound the day before DD#1 was born. They predicted she'd be 8 lbs 13 oz, give or take 1/2 a pound. They told me she would definitely be at LEAST 8 1/2 pounds. She weighed 7 lbs 12 oz when she was born, so they were nearly a full pound off and their 1/2 pound margin of error wasn't accurate.

Nope. I had a u/s a couple of days before delivering DD. They guestimated her to be in the 5 pound range which was they're whole reason for inducting. DD was born weighing in at 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Nearly a 2 pound difference.

Just coming back to update my original post. My baby girl was delivered, via c-section, at 40 weeks. Her actual birth weight was 6 pounds, 4 ounces. Obviously, the weight scan of 6 pounds, 13 ounces just a week earlier was way off. :)

I did not have any ultrasounds after the 20w one, but my OB kept telling me I was going to have a small baby based on my fundal height, general size, weight gain, etc. DD ended up being 7 lbs 12 oz and 21.5 inches.

I had weekly u/s's for the last 3 mos of my pregnancy (I attended twice-weekly NST's due to borderline PIH). Towards the end, the technicians liked to guess at the weight/size of my baby based on fluid levels, etc. Every one of them said it looked to be a big baby, like 8+ lbs, which had me scared. Even my ob speculated that I was carrying a large baby. My boss guessed that my baby would be in the 10lb range. Um, no. DS was 7lbs8oz even. Every child born on my side of the family has been in the 6lbs5oz-7lbs12oz range. I think the size of my belly had the techs fooled, I did gain 40+lbs (and I'm all of 5'2"!) :D

My doctor refused to give me a weight estimate, but she sort of pooh-poohed my comments about big babies running in my family. I do know that she was *very* surprised when DD was born at 9 lbs even (so she must have had her own suspicions). Her first words after the birth were "She's HUGE! You were right!"

I d idnt have an u/s since 34 weeks since his growth scans were good. But at my 40 week appointment they estimated he was only 7 lbs nothing more than 7 1/2 lbs. I delivered 3 days later and had a 7lb 8 oz baby.

My Dr. is predicting a big baby. At my 31 week U/S he was close to 5 lbs. which I thought was pretty average. We'll see next week I guess. :)

my doctor predicted through an ultrasound done at 30 weeks that my son would be around 9 pounds. another performed at 36 weeks just made them even more sure.

No even close with my first. I measured small my entire pg. I had some late u/s and they estimated the baby's weight at 6-6.5 pounds. I even had an u/s right before my csection. My baby was 9 pounds, 1 ounce.

I had u/s at every appointment, and a week before my due date my OB said she would be about 7lbs on her due date. I delivered 1 day early, and she was 6lbs 15oz. So pretty darn close! ;)
My DS was born on his due date at 7lb 4oz, and they estimated he'd be about 8lbs.

My U/S at the 36 week appointment is what caused me to have a scheduled induction. They said he was measuring 8lbs and 20in at 36 weeks and if he went full term would be 10 1/2 to 11 lbs and 22 in. So we scheduled the induction.(I didnt end up needing to be induced, he was born at 39 weeks)
He was 8lbs 15oz at birth, 39 weeks....

Mine was accurate, but I didn't believe it at the time. I had an u/s at 36 weeks and DD was estimated to be 8 lbs! I refused to believe she was that big - she didn't feel that big. I delivered at 39w5d (vaginally) and she weighed 9lbs 10oz.

During the last 3 months I had u/s's weekly (due to possible PIH, my ob had me doing NST's at the hospital twice weekly). Various nurses who performed the u/s's guesstimated that I was carrying a larger than average baby, which frightened me as I'm all of 5'2". DS ended up being 7lbs8oz, which is pretty average for babies born in my immediate family (7-8lbs).:)

I was "measuring big" with the tape so I got sent for several extra ultrasounds. The extra ultrasounds said she was measuring ok. She was born at 38.5 weeks and was 6lbs 15oz.

I was measuring small with tape (4 weeks small) so I had an U/S and DS measured at 3 lbs 12 oz at 33 weeks. I had low amniotic fluid, so I had weekly U/S and 5 days before I delivered they said he weighted 4lbs 13 oz. He ended up being 5lbs 5 oz. Pretty much right on.

Yep. My Dr estimated a 9lb baby if I went to term based on tape measurments and then a sonogram at around 32 weeks. I didn't believe it based on DH and I being small, both in the 6lb range and the fact that so many people said not to believe it.
I delivered a 9lb 2oz baby at 40w6d

My OB was almost dead on. I didn't have an u/s after 18 wks but between the tape measurements and the size that both my DH and I were at birth, my OB predicted about 6 and 1/2 lbs. Right before they put DS on the scale after birth my OB said 6lb 5oz. DS was 6lb 8oz. My OB actually threw up his arms like he was calling a touchdown and said "YES!". It was so funny. We'll see how right he is this time around.

Mine was accurate. At 40 w, they estimated DS to be 8 pounds, 13 oz. He was born 1 week later and weight 8 pounds, 15.25 ounces. So, they were probably only 3 oz. off. Pretty close!

NO!
I had a 4-D ultrasound three days before my DS was born. The doctor's ultrasound predicted 8 pounds 4 ounces. My son was born three days later and weighed 10 pounds 10 ounces. I actually thanked the ultrasound tech for saving me from having a c-section though!!
