View Full Version : What time does your DC go to bed?

I read all these sleep threads of moms whose children go to bed as early as 6:30 pm! But there have got to be other moms of night owls out there!

So, what time does your DC go to bed? You don't have to feel the need to post, if you'd rather not admit to having the night owl. ;)

ETA: Multiple answers allowed for multiple situations. :)

I usually put him down between 9 - 10pm. He wakes at 5am EVERY.SINGLE.MORNING :(

I've tried putting him down earlier and that just ends with him waking up earlier - usually around 4am...

The really early bedtimes always surprise me when I read about them. At first I thought it was because exH worked odd hours (1PM to 10PM or later) so we were all on his schedule, but nope, DD2 goes to bed late (but not as late) too.

DS is only 12 days old so we are still experimenting, but we always shoot for before 8 p.m. - closer to 7:30.

DD has just now started going to bed between 7:45-9:30. When she was 0-6 months, she'd go to bed around 11 and wake up around 9:45-10:00am. Between 6-12 months, she went to bed around 10-10:30 and woke up around 9.

DS is a little over 2 months old and we don't put him to bed for the night until about 12:30 - 1 am... DH doesn't get home until 11 pm sometimes, so - we don't give DS his bath until 12 am. Then I feed him one last time and he falls right asleep. He wakes up around 7:30 - 8 am.

We start putting DD to bed about 10. I feed her, rock her to sleep, and then she wakes up about 10 minutes later screaming. Some nights she's asleep by 11:30, sometimes 2:30. You never know. I can't wait til we have a schedule!

I didn't put both of my kids; oops.

#2, the current baby, is 11.5 months and has gone to bed at 7 or 7:30 since she was maybe 4 months old. Sleeps until around 6:30-7:30. I know when we were building her schedule I was shooting for a 7pm bedtime long term, so I'd try to put her down then, even if she got up one more time around 9 or 10. Eventually that wake up fell away and we had our dream sleep schedule.

#1?? I don't think I ever got her in bed before 9:30p, EARLIEST, for her entire first year. Most of the time I'd say it was more around 10 or 10:30, and there have been many times where it's 11 or 12 even before I got her fully settled at night. That horrible sleep schedule stuck for YEARS, and it's only now that I'm much more regimented with another kid that I've got her going to bed somewhere between 8-9 every night (and yeah, she's almost 6.)

Not sure if it's innate night-owlness, or just a side effect of me not being diligent about scheduling when she was learning sleep patterns. Either way, it stunk LOL

Goes to bed at 7 pm and sleeps until 6:40 am. She is 10 mos now and has been on this schedule since 3 months old.

Well, my DD is 17 mos. now, but I answered for the relevant time periods. When she was 3-6 mos (IIRC) we put her down at about 6:30. She would usually wake up about twice for feeding but would go back down. Sometime around 6 mos., we pushed her bedtime to 7:30, and that's still where she is now. We have been vigilant in keeping her on that schedule (except occassionally when we are out and get home later) and luckily she has gone along with it.

Hmm, I can't recall specfically when she started STTN, but it was pretty early on. I believe we pushed her bedtime to 7:30 shortly after that happened.

It's easiest to get DD (8 mo) down around 7. If we wait much past that, it turns into a battle. She sleeps till 6:30 or so, except for today when she was up at 5:40. Grrrr.

My 10 month old is usually in the crib at 6:30. He's wiped out by then though b/c he takes such crappy naps during the day. No matter the time he goes to bed he's still up at 5 am. Sucks.
I figure once he starts sleeping a little better during the day I can push his bedtime to at least 7ish.

10 months old.

In bed at 7:30. DH wakes him up around 10pm to feed him a bottle (otherwise, DH wouldn't see him at all Monday through Friday, so I relent and let him do it). He sleeps until 7, then wakes up, eats again, and I take him on a walk. (The waking up is due to us having to get his sister ready for school - on non-school days, he just sleeps through.) When we get home from our walk (about 8:00), he's usually ready to sleep some more and sleeps until 10 or so.

It's a weird schedule, but it works for us.

DS is 9 months. He goes down between 6 and 7 pm and wakes for the day between 7 and 8 am. He does not STTN and takes two one hour naps during the day. He has gone to bed as early as 4:30 pm when he's been really wiped out.

DD is 6 months. She goes to bed around 8:30-9:00 every night, and has since she was 2 months. She STTN and wakes up around 7:00am. If she went to bed much earlier, DH would never see her.

DD is 10 months old, and has consistenly gone to bed between 8:30 and 9. She sleeps until 7:45 on the nose. I've always wondered how kids went down between 6:30 and 7:30!!

DC is 4.5 months old and since he was 2-3 months old we've been giving him a bath around 7:30 then a bottle and down in bed. Some nights it's a little earlier and some nights is a little later but he's typically in bed and asleep between 7:30-8:30 and most nights it's right around 8:00pm. Most nights he wakes up for 1 bottle and then sleeps until 7-7:30.

From newborn to about 3 months, it was fairly random - he had colic BIG TIME so he was down when I could get him down. Once the colic subsided until about 8 months he was in bed by 6:30pm at the LATEST and slept until about 6am with 1 night waking. At about 9 months he SSTTN and goes down at about 7:30 (8pm the VERY latest) and sleep anywhere from 7am until 8am.

I figured I answer here than in LJ. :)

DS goes to bed at 6:45-7:00pm and sleeps until 8:30am. He takes one 2 hour nap urning the day.

DD goes to bed at 8pm and wakes up arund 8:30am. I think DS would sleep longer but when she gets up and about she walks into his room and wakes him to come play with her. Of course he cant get ou of bed like she can so she ends up coming to wake me up to get him out to play.

Aiden used to go to bed at 8 and sleep until 7 when he was 1.

DD is almost 5 months old. We start bath-time between 7:15-7:30 (depends how tired she is and when her dad gets home) and then bottle then bed. She is in bed between 8:00-8:15, depending on what time we started. She sleeps until 7:45-8:15 am. I usually won't take her out of her crib until at least 8 am, to try to encourage a full 12 hours sleep. She just recently (maybe 3 weeks ago) dropped her 5 am feeding and now sleeps the full 12 hours.

Naps are crappy. She takes 3-4 naps of 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours each (the latter if it is a really good day). If the naps last an hour each - she takes 3, if they're 45 minutes each - she takes 4. I wish she'd nap better but I'm VERY thankful that she sleeps so great at night.

DD started STTN around 4 months old. She would go down between 9-10 and would sleep until about 7.

Now she's 7.5 months and goes down between 7:30-8:30. Really, I take cues from her (rubbing her eyes, fussy, etc) then we start our bedtime routine. She's kind of stubborn; if she doesn't want to go to bed, she will scream for hours (we tried putting her down once at 7:30 and she wasn't ready; she cried until 10:30 - we did go get her, but she just wouldn't calm down. We learned our lesson!)

She sleeps until about 6 a.m. now. Some mornings I have to wake her up for daycare. I hate that, but I enjoy our quiet time in the morning.

When I was home she went down at midnight with us and slept until 7, then slept until about noon (with 1-2 feedings between 7 and noon)

When I went back we tried to put her down between 8 and 9. Now (at 7.5 months, but since about 6 mo) she's moved it back to between 7:30 and 8. She now wakes up at around 6:30 no matter what time we put her down. I can't imagine putting her down at 6:30 - she doesn't seem ready then either.

DS is 8 months. He goes to bed between 6:30-7 and sleeps until anytime between 6:30-7:30 . Lately he's been sleeping till 8. However, I am sensing a growth spurt :) He's been sleeping on a schedule like this since he was 3 months old.

DS is 8 months and goes to bed between 6 and 6:30pm, gets up around 6am.

DD is 26 months and goes to bed around 7:30pm and gets up around 6:30-7am.

I love having a little alone time with DH after the kiddies are in bed. Plus, they both start to fall apart if I try to keep them up any later.

6:30 pm, and the earlier bedtime brings us much much closer to sleeping through the night (usually only one night waking). She gets up at 6 am. DD is 8 months.

It's counterintuitive but the earlier bedtime has brought us so much more sleep.

You have lots of company!
DS wakes up through the night and sleeps terribly if he goes to bed that early. In fact, if he does happen to drift off around that time, I treat it as a nap.

I already posted, but just wanted to add - when (if) I go back to work, I'll only be picking him up from daycare around 7 pm... With our daily schedules - it just won't be possible for DS to go to bed until at least 10 pm at the earliest.

DS goes to bed around 6:30- 7:00 pm, occasionally he will go to bed as late as 8:00pm if we have messed up his afternoon nap schedule and had a later nap. He wakes between 5:00-6:00 am for a bottle and is up for a hour, then goes back to sleep until 8:00-9:00am. He has totally set this schedule on his own. The kid just has had his own internal clock since he was born.

He will be 1 on Saturday and goes to bed at around 8 and gets up between 7:30-8:00. There are still times he will wake at night, anytime between 1:30 and 5, but takes a bottle and back to sleep until 7:30-8:00.

You all have made me feel good about his bedtime. MIL insists it is way too late and wants it done her way. She totally screws everything up when she has him. I like him waking at the time he does. I'm a night person not a morning person. If he got up any earlier than he does I would shoot myself. LOL

DS is 4 months today and he goes to bed around 9 and wakes up for the day around 8. I kept trying to get him on that 7-7 schedule that I keep seeing recommended, but if I put him to bed any earlier than 9 he is up about 10 times during the night and we both don't get any sleep. I'm happy with 9-8!

I have a question for the Mom's who's babies go to bed at 6:30. If you WOH, how do you get any time with them in the evenings?

ETA: My kids will be in daycare until 4:30 and by the time we get home, this would leave us about an hour of time together, which would be spent having dinner and getting baths. My DD (who is 2) currently stays up until about 9:30, which makes me feel bad seeing all of the early times, but it is the only way we can find time with her in the evenings.

Txfish

KiKi -- that's a big part of why my older dd stayed up later, because I was working then. Now I get tons of time with both kids and can easily get them to bed earlier, but dh still often goes a whole day without seeing one or both of them. I used to try to put dd1 on an earlier bedtime, but then it was just all robot mom, feeding, bathing, reading one book and off to bed... not much free play time with her.

KiKi: I'm a SAHM, but my son went to bed incredibly early when he was an infant, 5:30 p.m. or so starting when he was five months old and daylight savings time ended. It had been 6:30 before then. And pretty much my WOH husband didn't get to spend much time with him during the week, although he traveled a lot so most weeks, he was gone anyway. It sucked for DH, but that was clearly our baby's preferred natural bedtime. If we tried to keep him up any later, he'd just be horribly cranky and then would wake up crying multiple times throughout the night. When we put him down when he got tired at 5:30, he'd wake up to eat around 3 or 4 a.m. and then sleep until 7 a.m.

He did that middle of the night feeding for an extremely long time, probably until he was close to a year, but he was a pretty thin baby and I think he just could not go for 14 hours without any food.

As he's gotten older, his bedtime has moved later, around 7:00-7:30 most nights.

(I should add for the first three months or so he did not go to bed so early.)

Peyton goes to bed from 8-9pm every night. He normally wakes up around 3 or 4 to eat then is back down until 6 or 630am. He was STTN for the last 3 weeks but just two nights ago started waking up every 2 hours or so.

When he was younger (3m) he would not go to bed until 11 and if we tried to put him down before that he would scream. Slowly he went back earlier and earlier. Thank goodness. I too like the time DH and I have after he goes down for the night. Its also a good time to get a shower and get ready for the next day

He is almost 10m.

DS always was put down to sleep at 7pm, even as a few day old NB.

ITA with OP's in that if any later he gets VERY cranky, and we have trouble getting him down. He woke at 6.45am until 1YO, now he sleeps 7pm - 7.30 am

DS is 11 months and goes to bed at 6:30 and is up at 6:30-7am. DH and I love having alone time in the evening. When he is not traveling DH is a WAHD so he sees DS a lot during the day.

03-23-2007, 09:21 PM
DS will be 16 weeks tomorrow, and he goes down between 7-8pm depending on how tired he seems and how much or little he has napped during the day. I'm thinking of starting the bedtime routine earlier though & having him in bed around 6:30pm, because this last week he has screamed through his bath and post-bath which he usually loves. I'm thinking he might be overtired as he has been rubbing his eyes mid-scream during the bath...
