40 weeks 6 days here and no signs that this baby is coming soon. It seems like most people are induced at 41 weeks but I'm planning a homebirth and that's not compatible with induction. I have a biophysical profile in a couple of days and as long as that's good, we'll wait for the baby to come on his/her own. It's frustrating, though, to be overdue and I would love to hear stories from those of you who went overdue and didn't need to be induced.

With DD1, I went to 41w1d. My dr never discussed induction with me, and I was young, so I didn't know to bring it up!

My first baby was overdue by 4 days. I too was planning a natural, low intervention birth, so induction was NOT a viable option for me until I reached 42 weeks (or earlier if distress, obviously).

What I did - tried to stay busy (going out to eat, visiting friends, shopping, etc.), walked everywhere, used 'natural induction' methods*. I went into labor spontaneously and had a beautiful natural birth, just like I planned.

* I'm a two-time believer in the power of sex to start labor ;) :p

I was 40w4d when DD decided it was time. I was a vbac, so induction wasn't really an option.

I was also 40w4d when I went into labor naturally. We weren't even going to talk about induction until 42 weeks.

I was 42 weeks when I went into labor. Labor started a few hours before they were going to induce me. I took Blue Cohosh for 2 days to start labor on the advice of a midwife. If you have a reputable midwife or nutritionalist I would check into Blue Cohosh. It does work but can have some side effects. I feel your pain on being overdue. It is probably one of the hardest parts of being pregnant. Keep your chin up you will get there soon enough. Good Luck!

I went 9 days past my due date and finally went into labor on my own. Up to the day before, I had NO signs of impending labor. Personally, I wanted an induction because I knew she was going to be big and I was worried about her position, but my dr. won't induce until right at 42 weeks.

Believe me, I tried every "natural" induction method out there except castor oil and none of them worked for me.

Ditto. Keeping busy helped. I went shopping with my mom for about six hours (all but one on my feet!) the day I went into labor.

I was 10 days past my due date, and went into labor on my own the morning before my scheduled induction.

40w5d, no induction, non-medicated hospital birth.

I was 40w5d when I went into labor with DD and was not induced - I ended up having a very short non-medicated hospital birth. I was induced with DS at 41w and said that I would never do it again - I was so glad to let my body tell me when it was ready! I agree that you should try to stay busy and treat yourself to some things that you will not be able to do for awhile - pedicures, looking at magazines at a bookstore etc.

I was 41w2d, not induced.... my OB would not talk about induction until 42 weeks!

40w2d with the first, 40w4d with the second.
Both births uninduced and natural. But the second one was WAY faster :)

I was 40W 1D, with the induction booked for 5 days later....the Doctor was concerned that the baby was on the bigger size, and didn't want to leave it too long.

Fortunately I went into labour spontaneously, and before DS was fully engaged. Unfortunately, after 28hrs of labour, he still wasn't engaged, and I had a C section (he was 9lbs7oz and had a HUGE head:eek: )

Good Luck!

40w5days and zero signs of labor (0cm and just barey effaced). I went into labor in the morning and my water broke that night.

Thanks so much. It looks like I'm either in early labor or having prodromal labor so hopefully it won't be too much longer now.

technically, yes..they mentioned induction and my water broke the next day (over the toilet)..i needed cervidil and pitocin in the hospital..then begged for the EPI..but i still wouldn't consider myself induced.

I hope you are in labor and that it goes exactly as you want!!!

I had hoped for the same as you! I had a non-medicated hospital birth with DS at 41 weeks. I tried all the natural forms of induction and NOTHING worked. I think it just wore me out more than anything :p FWIW - I had a spa pedicure the day before DS was born. I don't know if I believe that it helped induce labor, but I did start having contractions at 11 PM the same night! At least its a nice way to spend your time waiting! ;)

I went into labor at 41 weeks. I went from "this baby is never coming lets go out to dinner" at 8pm to "I think we'll have a baby this weekend" at 11:30pm to "contractions lasting 1.5 minutes every 3 minutes" at 12:30am. Bunny was perfectly healthy.

I was 40w4d when we decided to go ahead and schedule an induction for two days later. My OB didn't want me going much longer and there were a couple of other issues as well. I still wasn't sure we'd made the right decision and second guessed my agreeing to it all evening (I wanted to go into labor naturally). However my water broke about an 1 am the next day (40w5d) and DD was born later about 10 hours later.

With DS making it to 40 wks was never in question. I started dilating and having contractions at 35 wks. He held off for two wks and arrived at 37 wks.

I went into labor spontaneously at 40w3d. My doctor wouldn't consider induction until 41w. I was slightly miffed about that at the time, but looking back, if it happens again, I'll be fine with it.

I get to answer my own question! I gave birth one week after my due date- at 41 weeks 1 day.
