View Full Version : If you have back problems, did they affect your L & D?

I have an 8 mm herniated disc in my lower back. I asked my OB if this would pose a problem during late pregnancy or labor & delivery, but all he said is that we'll have to wait and see. I'd like to have a natural vaginal delivery if possible, but I don't know if my back problem might prevent this. If anyone else had these kinds of back problems, how did your L & D go? Did you have to change anything because of your back problems?

TIA!

Melinda

I wasn't able to have the spinal put into my back because of the way my spine is curved. No other problems though. :)

I have scoliosis and have 2 rods in my back. Because of where they're positioned, I wasn't able to have an epidural. Also, I can only bend at my waist because of the rods. I've had 2 vaginal births, no epidural, no problems with my back or pushing.

I have a herniated disc, not sure which one though, arthritis in my back and very mild scoliosis and I was very worried that I would have problems because of this. My lower back hurt some late in pregnancy but nothing like I thought it would and I was able to get an epidural (woo-hoo). I had no problems pushing or anything like that. My main concern was that I was afraid I would not be able to get an epidural, and it doesn't seem like that would be an issue for you if you want to have the baby "naturally".
