Is anyone else watching? I'm a dance addict, so I'm already hooked after Wednesday night's premiere episode! :) Plus, it's always fun to laugh at the people who don't know how much they suck. ;)

SHOW INFORMATION:

This summer, FOX teams up with the creators of American Idol and the producers of the American Music Awards and American Bandstand to create SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. If you think the American Idol competition is tough, you haven't seen anything yet! SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is the hot new series that will have America dancing to a different beat, as dancers skilled in everything from ballroom and ballet to salsa, jive, hip-hop and krumping all compete to be named the best.

Producers traveled to Chicago, New York and Los Angeles in search dancers who represent the soul and rhythm of America. The dancers must impress the judges with their moves and rigorous routines in order to survive the auditions and be invited to Hollywood. Some dancers wow the judges, while others leave them speechless.

A fortunate 50 dancers will survive the auditions and go to Hollywood to work with five of the top choreographers in the business: Alex Da Silva, Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels and Mary Murphy. During the Hollywood week, the semifinalists will dance their hearts out, as they learn challenging routines and try to impress the choreographers. Only one dancer can win!

I watched part of this the other night, I kept switching between this and Brat Camp. I think it's going to be really interesting, and I'm glad there's a renewed interest in more traditional dances. Dancing with the stars was a good interest sparker for that type of dancing and a good lead in to this show.

I thought there was another choreographer - Carrie Ann Something, she was a judge on Dancing with the Stars. She was on teaching the dance moves Wed night.

For some reason, they didn't list her or any of the judges on the website on FOX. I guess maybe they didn't because they'll only appear on the audition episodes or something.

I'm really excited to see what happens when they get heavy into the choreography! It looks like it's going to be really intense. :)

There were some *unusual* people who auditioned in LA. I winced everytime someone did a head spin because it looked so painful. I'm amazed at the flexibility and agility of the contestants.

It'll be interesting to see how the contestants do next week. A lot of them looked kinda lost in the previews.

I like Nigel as a judge. He can be very blunt, but he's also very funny (unlike Simon who's just brutal).

I am psyched to see traditional, more technical dancing on TV. I can't think of the name of the show, maybe the new Star Search? The audience could call in to vote. It wouldn't fail were there would be a dancer with great technique up against someone doing head spins and back flips and the head spin won every time.

Now, some of those break dancers (are they still called that?) were awesome and talented, but they couldn't keep up with learning the choreography.

They show the amazing dancers and the terrible dancers. I wish they would show more "average" dancers to get a feeling of what the judges are looking for.

I would not normally have watched this at all, but I was at my best friend's house and she insisted on turning it on. I was hooked. I was so glad that the two best friends who auditioned both got in... they were both so good. I was really impressed in the second round with the guy who originally auditioned with the stilts. I didn't know what to expect from him, but he really looked great doing the choreographed segment. Then there was that one guy... can't remember his name... I just remember being transfixed when he danced. He was so graceful and powerful and amazing. I was really surprised that they kept the Siberian girl. She didn't really do anything for me. Should be interesting watching this progress.

I really enjoyed watching the best friends, too. I think they should do pretty well with the choreography. I'm not so sure about a lot of the other people, though. Many people were good at what they did, but may not be so good at other types of dance. It will be interesting to see how that plays out in the coming weeks.

I wonder if there will be eliminations this week and, if so, how they will work.

I watched this past week (well, I switched over once Brat Camp came on) but I loved the two best friends. They were amazing!

I thought the break dancers (?) might have a problem once it got to the choreographed routines. If you haven't had the experience of learning new choreography that quickly, it can be really difficult.

I'm so interested to see what they're going to do once we get past the auditions.

I just caught the last half of it last night.

How many episodes have I missed? Did they actually do a show with all the auditions like American Idol?? I will be so bummed if I missed that.

I am looking at their site on fox.com and it doesn't say anything about re-airing the shows :(

I didn't think the auditions shows were as interesting (from a train-wreck) perspective as American Idol's audition shows. I found last night to be pretty interesting though. Although I was somewhat disappointed in how they limited their focus to a few dancers, most of whom got cut.

And for those that watched - WTF was up with that big crying part. Where the dancers were so "moved" they were all bawling - even big, bad, Blake. Speaking of Blake, I'm interested to see whether he's in the finals or not since the previews for next week showed him totally getting busted by the choreographer who he said wasn't that good.

I enjoyed it last night, but I agree with you, MsPeachy , they seemed to focus on a small handful of dancers, most of whom didn't make it through to the next round.

But I did get a huge kick out of those dancers who were all, "I'm going to WIN this competition - I was born to be a dancer!" and then they would cut to one of the choreographers - "She has no talent" or "He has no chance". :D

I've been brought to tears before from dance, both dancing and watching. I've never bawled like a baby before though. It seemed kind of fake to me. I think Blake knew what would score him high points with the choreographer and went with it. I think the other people were just jumping on the band wagon.

So far it looks to me like Blake should win this thing hands down. Although they haven't been showing much of the other dancers.

I really like the lyrical choreographer, her stuff looks really amazing. And I love the comments the choreographers make about the dancers who think they are too hot for words.

I CAN NOT watch this show again with my DH. Every other comment out of his mouth has to do with male dancers being gay. OK, I get it, a lot of male dancers appear to be gay. Can we move on?

I thought the one chor./judge was being a bit snippy and b*tchy.

Was anyone else here in or into dance? I took ballet, tap & jazz from 5 until about 12. Even so, I can't imagine how hard those trying to be professional dancers must have to work and the kind of crap they have to put up with (although granted, they seem to have their own "diva" issues too ;))

I'm currently in Hip-Hop & Lyrical so this show is right up my alley. :D

I used to take tap when I was very tiny. Then Jazz/Ballet for a majority of my years. Then I was in Pointe for about 5 years. Now just lyrical & hip-hop.

I'm loving this show. I took ballet (along with various other types of dance) for 18 years. I also taught ballet for about 6 years.

Blake's crying bugged me. It seemed too staged. I've been moved to tears by dancing many times, but that seemed over the top. I can't wait till he's confronted next week.

That ballroom choreographer was annoying. I've worked with some difficult and nasty choreographers before but she was pretty rude.

From 5 until 18 I regularly took mostly tap, jazz, ballet, some lyrical, hip-hop and acrobat. In college I took a few classes here and there, tap, jazz, and modern.

I've only recently done tap. My old dance school has a "reunion" every five years where us old folks get together and dust off our tap shoes to do a number in the recital.

At one point I wanted to be a professional dancer or a teacher, but I went to college and gave up that dream.

I really enjoyed seeing Melody and Ashley in hip hop class. They're both really good dancers, regardless of what style they're doing, in my opinion. I love that!

But honestly, my favorite things about this week's show were the worst dancers faking injuries, then going off on nearly endless spasmodic freestyle rampages. That shit was hilarious. :D

And that Burgundy girl? Oh.my.god. Somebody hold me. She looked like she was having a fit the entire time she was attempting to dance. Completely out of control! How is it possible for someone to be *that* awful?!

I was happy that "Big Poppa" made it through to the next round, too. I know he's a big old dude, but I really enjoy him. :)

Oh, and I meant to say that I took tap, jazz, and ballet dance classes from age 5 to about 13. I LOVE dance! :D

Dance is my life :) I've danced pretty much forever. Ballet, Jazz, hip hop, adn tap (but only when i had to for requirements..don't like tap!) and have spent the last two years dancing with Carnival Cruise LInes.

We're watching the show on the ship, and i gotta say, I'm hooked! Awesome to see dance finally get recognition!
One of the guys in our cast knows Nich....kinda cool.
Blake is pretty f-ing good, but man he's a bad-arse... heh you can tell the husbands "see, there's testosterone and egos even in dance" ;)
There are some really good dancers on there (and some not so good ones! Glad the whiners went home).

Anyhow, can't wait to see it get crazy intense as the weeks go on. If dance is anything, it's passionate, so there's going to be a lot "going down"... :)

And, it is very possible to get so emotional while performing somethign that you put all your emotions into-especially something like lyrical and you're feeding off of negative emotions, or the ones you're putting in are so powerful. The combination of opening yourself up, free-ing your body and powerful music can have crazy effects on ppl. (though I gotta admit I was surprised Blake was so emotional...an act? maybe. good point. Interesting to see what happens when he gets busted next week. Would be a shame though, becuase he's so talented, but think of how many industry ppl are watching the show....soooo stupid to mouth off like that, even if the actual judges never saw it,...who's going to wanna work with someone like that?

anyways, getting off the soapbox before i babble on any longer :)
til next week!

I too was a dancer, started at age 5. I was on dance team in high school and then danced at disney for about 7 years. I know all those classes would kick my butt so I give all those people a lot of credit for trying. I am the biggest white girl when it comes to hip-hop and lyrical really isn't my thing either, but I love watching other people dance those styles. I had to deal witha few harsh choreographers in my day too, one had said I was too fat for a particular role so I was taken out of it for a few months. I was wearing baggy sweats and a t-shirt at rehersals so it made me look bigger then I was. The sad thing was she couldn't tell me to my face a week later I was told by a different choreographer that I was taken out of the role til I lose weight. It actually caused a big issue because we had a few girls who where kind of anorexic and they all started to drop weight when they heard what was said to me. I loved dancing so much. I still love watching it, I have my dvr set to record this show every week so I won't miss it.

Heh - why am I not surprised that so many that are into this show have some connection to dance ;) I think that with the success of Dancing with the Stars and this show, dance in general going to be more in the spotlight and rise in popularity among the regular public.

Some of the freestyling we saw in the hip-hop classes was good but some of it was just junk. I can't believe that some people think all that flopping around is good dancing. I was so glad Burgundy got the boot cuz she stunk! And that other girl - the one who thought she was a great singer too - ugh!

I like Nick and that other guy (can't remember his name) who is a more classically trained dancer but surprised the choreographer by doing so well in hip hop.

I was sad that tall girl (the Irish dancer) got cut but you could tell she wasn't cut out for what the show was looking for. IMO she was the prettiest girl they had. Also, I was surprised we didn't hear/see more about "Snow" the siberian girl they focused on during the auditions.

JillianS

hah, i couldn't stand that girl who thought she was some great singer/dancer and dressed like she was 19 eventhough she's 29. and thought she was britney spears or something.
And that one girl (ashley?) who faked this huge hip injury to make an excuse for her learning the choreo and then went into this stupid freestyle?
I'm not sure why they all find it necessary to change the choreo they're given and try and "freestyle it" like that's going to make them look better or more talented...uh no. It's going to make you look unprofessional and like you have no clue what you're doing.
haha burgundy....oh my word. That girl has no rhytm. How did she get that far in front of so many others left behind???
i loved the two hiphop choreographers. They were awesome. And their comments were funny too.
THat ballroom chick seems like a snot-and a snot that has no reason/justification to be a snot, you know?
Not sure how far "big poppa" will make it, but he's so great to watch. he's got so much heart and determination and he gives so much effort.

I thought it was hilarious that the fake Britney girl was insulted that they suggested she go be a Britney impersonator in Vegas. Geez, they didn't mean it as an insult! She really does suck, but at least that would be a viable career option for her! ;) :)

What a suprise, given her American Idol controversy! ;) :D

Paula Abdul Won't Appear on New TV Series (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/P/PEOPLE_ABDUL?SITE=NYNYD&SECTION=US&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT)

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Scheduling conflicts will keep Paula Abdul from appearing in the new Fox TV talent contest "So You Think You Can Dance," her publicist said Friday.

Abdul will be too busy promoting an "American Idol" DVD and working on the show's new season, publicist Ken Sunshine said in a statement. She had planned to appear as a guest choreographer in several episodes of "So You Think You Can Dance."

"We had not anticipated the time commitment required to successfully produce and appear" in the show, Sunshine said. "It became apparent that her prior commitments ... made it impossible to be part of this new show."

Fox Broadcasting and the show's producers issued a statement saying they "respect Paula's decision to step away."

"We wish her all the best and look forward to working with her soon," the statement read.

The series roughly follows the pattern of "American Idol," with dance contestants competing against each other for $100,000 and an apartment in New York for a year. Viewers will pick the winner.

Fox and the producers of "American Idol" recently announced they have hired an independent counsel to investigate a claim that Abdul had an affair with an "American Idol" contestant during the show's second season. Abdul has denied former contestant Corey Clark's allegation.

For a 90 minute episode, last night's show was the most boring, mundane piece of filler crap ever!! God - did it really need to take that long to accept 16 and boot 8? Sheesh. However, while I'm not sure if I even care who wins (as long as it's not Mr. "How gay can I be with these suspenders" Blake), I am liking the eye candy that is Jonnis

When Blake came prancing out in his suspenders, I almost threw up. What a self-absorbed bonehead.

I agree that there was a lot of filler, and very little substance! And honestly, I was surprised by some of their choices - but like another poster said, they were all "you did THIS wrong, you did THIS wrong, you did THIS wrong....you MADE IT!" which made it entirely confusing to watch.

I'm with you MsPeachy on liking Jonnis and Nick. They seem like really cool guys with some talent.

Their choice to let Michelle stay surprised me a bit.
http://www.fox.com/dance/dancers/images/michelle.jpg.
They basically told her to get a personality, but didn't they tell other performers that they just didn't have that "it" factor so they're getting cut? I was saying to my DH that Michelle should just take some "personality" lessons from Blake and Kamilah since the two of them seem to have enough ego to fill up a stadium.

Did anyone watch last night?

Wow - They finally got to some actual dancing on the show and it was pretty damn good. Overall, I was really impressed with all of them - especially given the randomness of their partner & style. Ultimately, I think that was a pretty fair way to split up the group. No one was "given" and advantage.

My Rankings of the Performances:

1. Melissa & Ryan (mambo) - Fantastic! The best of the night for me - especially since they had so much trouble in the beginning. I am really proud of Ryan for taking the chances he has. He's not afraid to leave the street behind!

2. Craig & Melody (jive) - How fun was this? I think the judges were off - if they make it look effortless, it's because they're both really good dancers. What more do you want?

3. Artem & Sandra (lyrical) - much better than the judges said they were. Artem is HOT. God he is so sexy!! er.... sorry, momentary lapse o reason ;)

4. Blake & Destini (lyrical) - I hate Blake's personality but wow is he a good dancer. Just. Wow.

5. Nick & Kamilah (hip-hop) - Good but not great. Nick has such grace & precision when he moves. Kamilah does oooze sexuality - she should be partnered with Artem for a Latin dance!

6. Jamile & ? (jive) - It was a good, fun performance.

7. Jonnis & Michelle (mambo) - I love Jonnis but he wasn't good here. And Michelle is boring, forgettable.

8. Allen & Snow - Snow is a good dancer but these 2 had no chemistry together. It was just blah.

Predictions:
Male: Jonnis (It better not be Artem!) Allen may get the sympathy vote.
Female: Michelle - she's too forgettable. No fan base despite her jiggling final dance.

RE The Judges: Honestly, this show should be called "So You think You can Give a Backhanded Compliment". Every other thing out of their mouth was a dig that sounded like praise. Geez. Plus, how about commenting on the ladies? Their performances were largely ignored so the judges could gush over the men.

Melissa and Ryan - Ryan is such a natural dancer, I was so impressed and surprised by him. I knew Melissa would do well.
Blake and Destiny - I was surprised Blake could partner well. I am just in awe at Blake's talent. I loved the comment one of the judges made about technique being invisible, so true. Destiny had a solid performance, but I think she was a little over-shadowed by Blake.
Ashle and Jamile - Something about Ashle annoys me, but I thought the performance was excellent. I really like how Jamile made the jive his own.
Kamilah and Nick - Beyonce and Justin exactly.
Melody and Craig - the dancing was right on, but the performance was a little weak to me. Maybe it was the smiling, but as I was watching them I felt like I was watching a dance recital. I think the routine might have been too simple for them, but I think that should have made them focus on the performance more.
Sandra and Artem - I though Artem was very good, but Sandra was a little off. The performance was kind of blah for me.
Michelle and Jonnis - Michelle who?
Snow and Allan - NO chemistry there. I like Allan, but I think he is a little out of his league here. I would like to see Snow do something other than shake her hips. I felt like I was watching them rehearse rather than perform.

Who I think should be out:
Allan and Michelle

Who I think will be out:
Jonnis and Michelle

I liked the judges comments, I think they were honest and accurate. I think the ladies were largely ignored because they are very consistent dancers and didn't surprise anyone.

lets see my thoughts:

Kamilah and Nick - Nick sooo did not do it for me, Camille was much better and yes she sweats sex and that to me is damn hot.

Melissa and Ryan - I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ryan but I didnt think he could do the mambo. I was so shocked and so happy. But i missed the spiky hair, i love that.

Blake and Destiny- I'm biased, I cant stand blake. I found their performance lacking, and their ending was off.

Ashle and Jamile- They were awesome. he was still poppin but it went well and looked good.

Michelle and Jonnis - Like michelle, like her alot, think she is a wonderful dancer. Jonnis, he's a crack muppet, a Spastic Crack muppet, that boy needs to go, though I am jealous of his fabulous hair.

Snow and Allan- I don't see the grand appeal with snow. I think she is scary looking and her dancing is creepy. Nothing she did in her solo dance was unique or difficult. her hip hop was terrible, she was off alot of the time and her movements were too wide, its like she forgot she was sharing the stage with someone else. Allan, I like him, I think he is sweet and cute like a teddy bear and for a bigger guy he can definitely groove BUT at the same time size does matter and I don't think he is going to be able to handle alot of the dance styles.

Who I think should go:
Jonnis and Snow

who i THINK will go:
Jonnis and Sandra

Melody and Craig - I wanted to slap their happy bouncy selves. the dance was fine but dammit if they didnt annoy me with the gigantic colgate smiles and bounce. it looked like they were dancing on a trampoline

Sandra and Artem - AHHH Sandra. My husband is partial to her because he swears she looks like me. I think she is cute, I think she can tap dance, I don't think she is right for the competition. TOo bad, she's cute. Artem...
Artem makes me creamier than a cappucino in a coffee shop. He is just SEXY! totally loved him. Think he could havebeen so much better with a better partner.

During his solo at the end, my DH was talking to me and I couldn't even focus on what he was saying. I just kept staring at the screen - mesmerized.... *drool*

if you go to www.fox.com and find the show - they have photos from last night's episode (including Artem's chest! ;)) - it's done in Flash so I can't link.

PS - I want Snow's "dress" from the end - that slinky zebra with a tail thing.

Bravo to Ryan for pulling it off last night. I was very worried for him when they showed the rehearsal. But he certainly showed the judges that he's here to win!

Gotta agree with you ladies about Artem. S-E-X-Y! My DH thought Artem looks like Jean-Claude Van Dam.

I think Michelle will be voted off because she lacks personality (like the judges said). But if it were based on the solo dance, I would vote Sandra or Allan.

Does anyone know when they are revealing the results of last night's show? I don't see how they can wait until next week to do it. I'm going to answer my own question here - I have heard that they taped the results show last night but I'm guessing it won't be aired until next week. So they'll probably have another hour and a half or two hour "block" with the first part being the results (and all the filler that goes along with it) and then the second part being the actual competition.

Oh - and I have supposed spoilers as to who got eliminated. PM me if you want to know so we don't spoil it for everyone else.

SO glad to see Jonnis go. That guy bugged me to the core. I would hate to be his partner and Dan nailed it tonight with his criticism.

Destini still doesn't do it for me with the lyrical stuff. I'm curious to see how she does with hip-hop and I don't predict she'll do well with any of the ballroom stuff.

I'm torn on who I think is going to end up going home next week. I absolutely love Nick and think he's probably the most skilled dancer of the whole group. Melody is a doll and I love her style. I like Craig, but I think his solo was a bit weird and disjointed. I don't think the audience will have connected with it at all. I like Jamile's street dancing, but I don't know that he has what it takes to do all the different styles as well as Nick or Craig. I'm starting to think that Snow is a one-trick pony, but I'm more annoyed by Michelle.

LMAO! :D I don't get lyrical dance either.

I'm beginning to like Kamilah more. She looked so lost in the practice session, but she nailed it during the performance. I didn't think she would do well because she seems to exude too much sex appeal - almost like a stripper instead of a professional dancer.

The Results Show
Well, the spoiler information I had turned out to be correct. I was okay with the results. Sandra's final dance was so much better than her other solo. If she had done that the night before, she might not have gotten eliminated.

And the crying - oh lordy. I mean, I knew that dancers tended to be the emotional sort but puhleeeeze. Sheesh - even Jonnis - crying and still being arrogant at the same time. I think Dan was exactly correct in his assessment of Jonnis.

Random Thoughts:
Overall, I was not pleased with the fact that so many dancers either a)ended up being paired with the same partner they worked with the previous week b) selected the same dance form they performed the previous week or c) both.

I thought Mia's choreography was wierd. And the Hari Krishna outfits were terrible. When Blake & Destini performed her routine, I felt no emotion whatsoever and it seemed jerky and rough. I liked the choreography much better as performed by Artem & Ashley. There was more emotion and better technique in general. Just goes to show how different dancers can "perfom" a piece.

It seems Snow is getting the shaft. I feel bad for her. Consistently getting untrained/inexperienced partners doesn't allow her to really shine.

Conversely, I think Blake is getting preferential treatment. I didn't think his routine deserved the kudos it got.

Couple Rankings: (In my untrained opinion ;) )

1. Artem & Ashley (Lyrical) - Did you see the look on Artem's face when he read that they were going to have to do lyrical again? He looked so dejected. I thought they did really well together. Like the judges said - Ashley brings the technique and Artem brings the emotion. Together it just worked.

2. Snow & Jamile (Quick Step) - Snow showed that she could be a good partner - despite what all the judges were saying about her before. I thought she was very gracious towards Jamile who had an excellent attitude about the whole thing. She looked gorgeous and he tried really hard. For someone who didn't know a thing about Quick Step, I think he did pretty darn good.

3. Melody & Craig (Hip Hop) - I thought they did good. No "dental dancing" ;) I'm not sure why the judges were so hard on them. Maybe because they make it look so effortless, the judges expect more.

4. Ryan & Melissa (Salsa) - These two look great together so I was actually happy to see them again. Plus, watching latin dance is so fun, I wish we saw more of that. They did good but not as good as their mambo. Melissa's spins were crazy good - I guess those were in lieu of the lifts that Ryan wasn't good at.

5. Nick & Michelle (Quick Step) - Ok. Not better than Snow & Jamile IMO b/c Michelle didn't have what it took to pull it off the way Snow did. Nick looked good - more on his toes that Jamile.

6. Allan & Kamilah (Hip Hop) - Another team of different partners but same dance style as last week. Kamilah saved Allan's butt on this one. She was steamy, raw and rough - perfect. She brought out a better dancer in Allan than Snow did.

7. Blake & Destini (Lyrical) - Booorrring. There was nothing spectacular about this routine to me.

Bottom 3 Couples:
I did not like seeing Craig & Melody in there. IMO, it should have been Blake & Destini but we know that would never happen. I didn't think Snow deserved to be in there either.

As for their final dances - they were all pretty good. Snow was really great - she looked way better than her other solo. Nick was fantastic as well. Craig is such a strong, fluid dancer but I am worried his moves were a little "odd" for mainstream. Melody - the striptease was what felt a little desperate to me but she did some things that made my jaw drop (uh, flexible much?). Michelle - she bores me to tears - it felt like I was watching the same solo as last week. Jamile - he's so cute & fun to watch. I love that there are still people who dance like this and the music totally brought me back to the "Beat Street" days ;)

Should be eliminated:
Michelle & Jamile

Will be eliminated:
Craig & Michelle

I was sad to see Sandra go, mostly because tap was my specialty. Last night her routine was better, mostly because it wasn't to music. I wonder if last week she had to use music.

Jonnis really bothered me, so glad to see him go.

I, too, was disappointed to see so many of the same couples do the same dance style.

My Rankings

Blake and Destiny - I was again in awe and this time much more impressed by Destiny. I love Mia's choreography, very modern. I think this her style suited Destiny a lot better than the style of the last lyrical choreographer.
Ryan and Melissa - Boy can that girl spin!!! A little disappointed they didn't do the lifts, but I still thought the performance was excellenct. I bet if they had more time to rehearse, they could have done the lifts.
Kamilah and Allan - last week I thought Allan was out of his league. I still don't think that he will be able to hack the other styles, but that boy was in his element last night. Kamilah was right on. That is what hip-hop is supposed to look like.
Artem and Ashle - Although I thought they did a good job, I thought it was too "pretty" and clean, to much like a Star Search performance. Ashle was all technique and it didn't really seem like she was feeling the movements. My biggest complaint is that we didn't see enough of Artem's chest. ;)
Craig and Melody - Melody was HOT, but Craig seemed way too stiff for me. I think hip-hop can be very difficult for a classically trained dancer to pull off. They need to work on relaxing their body more and getting more "down" if that makes any sense. I thought they danced well, but it wasn't very hip-hop. Again, it kind of reminded me of a dance recital.
Snow and Jamile - I was finally impressed by Snow, this was definitely her thing. I thought Jamile looked way to awkward and loose.
Nick and Michelle - I missed their performance. I was too busy chasing my puppy around trying to get my shoe back. :p

I loved Nick's solo performance. I think it was actually good for him to be in the bottom 6, he really got to show off last night. I think he could give Blake a run for his money. I liked Melody's as well, very entertaining. I thought Craig did excellent, but I don't think it's going to go over well to the general audience. I wasn't crazy about Snow's performance, getting kind of tired of the swishing skirts/scraves. However, I think if she had a different partner, she would never have been in the final 6. I thought Jamile was ok, and Michelle was boring.

Who I think should go:
Jamile and Michelle

Who I think will go:
Craig and Snow

I totally don't get lyrical dance either. Weird. And I'm so sick of Mia saying how it needs to be more "real." I thought Ashley & Artem were way better than Blake & Destini on that routine. Blake & Destini were just boring. Destini also seems heavy in her movements. Why do the judges love Blake so much?

I don't like Snow anymore. I didn't like her solo at all. Also, I know Melody can do the splits while standing on one leg. She does it EVERY time at the beginning of the show. Does she do anything else?

RE: Lyrical

Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. Sometimes the choreography doesn't make sense or "do anything" for me. Maybe it depends on the dancers - as I said before I got alot more out of Artem and Ashley's performance than Blake & Destini's and they did the same choreography.

For those of you who really like this style or know something about it, how would you rate the competing dancers who are considered "lyrical dancers" with each other?

Too funny. I can't stand Mia! I would never be able to listen to her go on about being more "real." It all seems so fake to me. I was never one of those emotional people, though. And what was up with her crying fit when Sandra was voted off? "Oh, Sandra, don't feel like a failure." Sandra - "WTF? I don't."

Judges - talk too much
Host - ICK!

I don't think it's fair that some are in the bottom 6 because they tried a dance style that isn't anything like what they know but then others got do perform their dance style. I give more credit to those - like the guy who danced with snow - then to those like Allan who really didn't wow me with his performance.

I am addicted to this show. I love to dance! I watch the show and tape it at the same time just so later I can re-watch some performances and so I can get the names of the songs to download them :D

Last night's was better than the previous week's show. It doesn't bother me so much that sometimes the same couples are paired together, but I don't like how they end up doing the same type of dance. I need to see that they can do different styles. For example, Allan - I'm sure he would be in the bottom if he hadn't picked hip-hop. I doubt he'll be good at any other style. He needs to go!

Kamillah was great at hip-hop, but I want to see her try salsa or lyrical.

I love lyrical dance, and I thought Artem is wonderful at it!

It's unfair that both pairs in a couple have to be in the bottom and not the individual dancer that wasn't good. Snow should NOT have been in the bottom! Her partner dragged her down but now she's on the chopping block? That's stupid! The judges should pick individual performers, because although it's based on how the couple performs together, if you suck you suck, no matter how good your partner is! ;)

The solos were overall pretty good! LOVED Nick (that's the song he used in his audition) and Craig (I thought his routine was awesome). Melody was boring, but I think she's safe. Jamile was good too but I don't think he's a better dancer than the other two.

I agree with those who said the way the voting off works is kinda rough, espcially when people are trying a new style. On the other hand though, if someone is good enough to win this thing, they should be decent in all styles. Not to mention they have the individual 45 sec dance before the vote.

I HATE HATE HATE the shaved eyebrow but draw them back on thing....

Also, she might be good at ballroom/quick step, but the rest of her dancing sucks. When she did her solo at the end to try and redeem herself it seemed like she was any ol girl in a club holding a beer and dancing. Her choreo sucked....and her song selection sucked (I guess I use this word a lot). She loves dancing to "Lucas Prata". Puhlease.

For those of you who really like this style or know something about it, how would you rate the competing dancers who are considered "lyrical dancers" with each other?
I personally enjoy dancing lyrical style because its more "flowy". I do love ballet but its not as "stuck up" or "stuffy" as ballet. You are able to move more smoothly and express yourself better. The only thing that may be difficult about lyrical is the constant movement. You can not stop and all your movements need to flow into eachother smoothly. Also, if you are not wearing lyrical/modern shoes you feet stick to the ground and its hard to do turns.

ITA. Although I'm not a fan of Snow, she was complimented on her quick step by Nigel and Mary (the judges who KNOWS ballroom), so she shouldn't have been picked.

As for Lauren Sanchez, she's actually a news reporter in LA. My personal rankings of the couples last night:

1. Artem & Melissa (paso doble) - This was HOT. HOT HOT HOT! Any hotter, and my TV would have melted. The music was fantastic. Both DH & I thought Snow would have been a much better partner for Artem in this as Melissa was a tad bland. She didn't have the passion IMO. But damn! I was speechless after watching Artem.

2. Nick & Kamilah (Disco) - These 2 were far better than Blake & Ashle. I wasn't aware that Disco was a style that was still practiced but I'm not complaining! I love Disco! This routine was fun, frenetic & wild. Kamilah's trick on Nick's back where she went into the splits was super-impressive.

3. Blake & Ashle (Rock n Roll) - It was ok. A little heavy on the tricks and light on the actual footwork/dancing. I've seen better swing/jitterbug routines. I felt the judges were a little too generous with their praise which only makes me suspect they want to keep Blake as long as possible.

4. Ryan & Snow (hip hop) - I liked it. For some reason, it did seem like Ryan was trying too hard & I agreed with judge Brian who said that this was the one category where we all expected him to excel. I still liked the performance - alot. I thought they looked like 2 badasses who were gonna kick my ass. Snow rocks. I felt so bad for her having to listen to crap reviews from the judges - again. She's just never been given a fair shot IMO.

5. Jamile & Destini (viennese waltz) - These 2 get an A for effort. Jamile looked like Frankenstein though - stomping around the stage and heaving Destini around. Props for trying though. I was a little ticked at Destini though when she said she'd never seen a waltz before. C'mon - you are supposed to be a professional dancer. At least have some awareness of other dance styles. Please.

6. Allan & Meldoy (lyrical) - Oh god this was horrible. Just. Plain. Awful.

Other notes: I was happy to see that there were new dance styles this week. It keeps things interesting. Also - no more partner repeats!!

I nearly fell on the floor when Nick said that Kamilah hit him in his "man spot" *snort*!

Artem's solo at the start of the show was hot. Good lord. I don't know what he was doing with his pecs but I was sure hypnotized. DH almost had to throw cold water on me to knock me out of it ;)

Who I thought should have been bottom 2 couples:
Allan & Melody
Jamile & Destini

Should leave:
Allan & Destini

Who I want to leave out of bottom 4:
Allan & Melody

Who probably will leave:
Allan & Snow :(

I don't want Snow to leave! But I think Melody may have a bigger fan base (for some unknown reason). Plus, I was a bit concerned over Snow's solo. It's like she wasn't even trying (not that I can blame her honestly)

It's tough to predict Allan vs. Ryan. Both have likeable backstories. Both have the "underdog" thing going for them.

He is a "one hit wonder" from several years ago. It was just funny how she was so excited saying she loves to dance to him...I think it was just me who found it odd.

Needless to say, she did another song of his on last night's show. I am sorry but her dancing sucks. She might be great at ballroom, but thats it. Her "jaz" dancing is very odd looking and she isn't very versatile

I love Nick. I think in the last couple of weeks he has really proven himself. I am always so impressed by dancers who can spin forever. I was comfortable doing triple turns, and could quad turns on a very good day, but some of these dancers look like they'd screw themselves into the floor before they had to stop.

Melody and the arabesques are getting a little tiresome. I think she is a good dancer, not the best.

It is time for Allan and Snow to go. They are both one trick ponies.

It was great seeing Artem do his thing. Does the temperature in anyone elses house rise 20 degrees when he dances?

It was great seeing Artem do his thing. Does the temperature in anyone elses house rise 20 degrees when he dances? Yes! For me - I was so mesmerized during his Paso Doble and caught up in the music. When the music ended after that build-up, I'll admit, I was a tad breathless. Such a good performance. IMO - everything that a Paso Doble should be. :)

Artem ROCKS! Especially when he looked into the camera and said something like 'this is the expression of a matador' and looked all serious - HOT! Not to mention his dancing- I am really hoping he wins!

I hope Allan goes home - he's just not good at anything but hip-hop and even that he's not that good at.

Ryan's solo was great - all the judges stood up for him, wow!

Melody is very cute and likeable so I think she'll stick around, so Snow will probably go home.

I was VERY sad to see Craig go home last night - poo! I thought he was awesome.

I can't believe I just randomly discovered this show tonight. For some reason when I heard about it I never realized that it was a bunch of skilled dancers taking on different styles. I caught it tonight for the first time and I'm hooked. I've set my DVR to record it from here on. Love it!

Destini is rude, rude, rude. Melody is in the bottom two, two weeks in a row (and not because of her dancing), and you don't see her acting like a ****ing brat. And for the record, her and Jamile's dance was NOT THAT HARD. We watched their routine a couple of times and in all honesty, on a high school dance team, I was able to perform a majority of those moves (or similar choreography) during hip-hop routines. All in all, I don't see what was so impressive about the routine, especially since it was sort of a foregone conclusion that they would rock hip-hop. Also, I wasn't a fan of the choreography or the choreographer himself. We've seen him before and tonight's routine wasn't all that different in style and moves. In fact, I'm convinced he had a couple of the same hand gestures from before.

Other thoughts ...

Artem looked like he was having *so much fun* doing the quick step and he looked so good. Melissa should feel lucky she had him as a partner for that dance because anyone else and she might have landed herself in the bottom two. Also, his ring was definitely gone tonight.

Nick is just effortless in his spins and turns and he's been able to adapt his style to fit all the different styles of choreography. Overall, he's my favorite. I'd love to see him in a dance off with Blake because I think it would be quite the sight to see since they're both so amazing (I think Nick has better technical skills and Blake has more flow and movement).

I don't like Ashle. While I won't discount that she's a great dancer, she just bugs me. And I call bullshit on her claiming to also be a model. That girl is NOT that cute.

Kamilah cracks me up. She's so good and each time she looks like she's waiting for someone to tell her she sucked. All praise comes as a complete shock to her.

Poor Ryan. Like Snow last week, you can just tell he wants to go home.

I couldn't agree more.

Poor Ryan. He is my favorite, not because he is a great technical dancer, but because he is great entertainer and he seems like a fun guy. It will probably be a relief for him to be voted off.

Destini came off as arrogant and desperate. I will not be sad to see her go.

Overall Couple Rankings:
1.Nick & Kamilah - First Dance: Tango. It was okay. I hated the music and thought there should have been a little more interesting footwork but overall good. Second Dance: Pop - Awesome. They blew this out of the water. I was glad to hear Nigel acknowledge Nick on the same level as Blake. In fact, Nick is impressing me more and more.

2.Artem & Melissa - First Dance: Pop - I liked it. Anything with Artem dancing with his shirt off is okay with me ;) Plus, I think that Melissa did really well too. Second Dance: Quick Step - Artem is so cute when he draws a ballroom dance. You could see how excited he was in practice. He made this routine for Melissa. She tried but it would have been miserable without his strong lead. Sadly, all I could think was "how awesome would it have been to be Snow & Artem doing this".

3. Blake & Ashle - First Dance: Salsa. I thought the judges gave them a bit of a free pass on this. I enjoyed the performance but it wasn't enough "salsa" for me. They didn't do enough partner dancing (or "in frame" or something) for me. Second Dance: Lyrical - I agreed completely with Judge Dan on this one. It was pretty much what we expected but hoped for more. I didn't get the love fest from the other judges as it seemed kind of blah to me. Actually, I enjoyed Melody & Ryan's Lyrical routine better.

4. Jamile & Destini - First Dance: Quick Step. Nigel hit the nail on the head with this. The choreography was too much a mix of styles. I thought Jamile's Quick Step with Snow was way better. I didn't like how the judges went a little easy on them since it's outside their skill area but were harsh on Melody & Ryan for their fox trot. Second Dance: Hip Hop - Holy Crap! This was easily the best routine of the night. I felt like I was watching a Missy Eliot video. The choreography and the dancing was AWESOME!

5. Melody & Ryan - First Dance: Lyrical - It was good. I thought they looked really good together. I felt more emotion from them than I did from Blake & Ashle's lyrical. Second Dance: Fox Trot - Lord love poor Ryan. I give him props and a half for trying. He was a bit heavy footed but no where near as elephantine as Jamile during the viennese waltz. I felt the judges were overly harsh on this couple on both their dances.

Who I think will go:
Destini (desperation is never a pretty thing & her solo seemed ad-libbed)

I can't even begin to guess with the guys. They are both so likeable and each have huge fan bases. I thought Ryan's solo was a little better than Jamile's but Jamile had that incredible Hip Hop routine.

Other notes:

I'm so sad Snow is gone. I felt she brought a level of interest and personality to the show and I don't think she ever got the opportunity to really shine. Like HB said, she probably was happy to go home because after working so hard week after week and getting dumped on, she was probably tired of it.

I love love love how Mia commented on Melody's leg extension thing. She said " we know the leg goes up already, let's see something else" Thank YOU Mia - you took the words out of my mouth.

I'm tired of the judges pimping of their favorites (sadly just like AI) I can tell who they want to stay in and who they want out by their comments. It's annoying. And if I have to see Brian making googly-eyes at Blake one more time, I'm gonna barf

Since Snow is gone, I think Kamilah is my favorite of the females. She's been sorta underrated from the beginning but every week comes out and kicks butt - in all the styles.

Has anyone seen the movie Dance With Me, with Vanessa Williams? The guy that starred in it with her, is here in this pic with Mary

The reason I ask is - I could swear that Blake & Ashle's Salsa routine was done to the SAME music used in a competition scene at the end of that movie. I think the show said the song was called Sax Machine. Anyway, there's some good latin dancing in that movie - better than Blake & Ashle's (who I also can't stand)

on to the show though...

all I gotta say is that I think the judges are being SUPER unfair and very very hard on ryan, more so than anyone else.

who will probably go:
destini, for the guys Idont know probably Ryan.

who SHOULD go:
MElody, I'm tired of looking at her damn crotch every week, her routine was pathetic and seemed like a chance to see how much she can shimmy and shake and show crotch in 45 seconds.

Ok, Melody used to be my fave, she was so versatile and awesome in the beginning, but now, I don't know, I'm feeling disappointed in her. It's like she's not showing us what she can really do and I'm not sure why. She's got great technique, but where was it in her solo last night? Show off your jumps and spins, that's what's going to get you votes, her solo last night just wasn't impressive to me as a dancer. Technically it was good, yes, but just so "same old"...I dunno

Blake and Nick just continue to blow me away every week. Nick has been my fave guy since day one, he is just so flawless and I'm glad people are finally starting to give him props for it. He's just not as "obvious" as Blake it. But wow, he gives me shivers when he dances. Blake is growing on me. I always knew he was an absolutely brilliant dancer, but now I'm actually starting to like HIM. And I love watching him to lyrical. WOW.The way that boy moves..

I've loved Melissa for a long time. Almost as much and I've loved Melody..she's starting to wear on me (she's REALLY jazzy) but I still think she's really great. You can tell how much she loves to dance.

Kamilah impressed me last night. She usually looks like she's trying too hard..and she still kinda did for the tango, but she was great in their pop routine.

Ashley has grown on me in the last couple weeks. Her and Blake do dance amazingly well together and she's just an all around great dancer. Does she bug me a bit as a person, yeah, but she's quickly growing on me as a dancer.

Artem-he's good. you can tell he loves to dance. I think he's my third fave guy.

Ryan- amazing breaker. Everythign else..meh. Even the hip hop he did last week was so "so-so" He's amazing at what he does and you can tell that if he were to get some real training, he could be good at other styles as well, but he's not in the same class as the others.

Jemile- pretty much the same as Ryan, but a little more versatile at "faking" the other styles.

Who should go in my opinion?

girls--well, although destiny did really well at the hip hop and I loved her solo last night, and Melody's solo was soo...boring, I have not liked destiny at all before. Her ballroom was brutal, and in the past her movements have seemed really heavy and forced. Especially her jumps. And I still need to have some faith in Melody. I want to see what she can actually do when paired with a good partner. I want to see her with blake or nick...

guys-a little tougher as I'm not a huge fan of either (tho yes, they're both great and amazing at what they do) I think Ryan's done. he's tired, sick of it and doesn't want it really anymore. And that's showing.

All in all, since the top 64, my "top 4" have been nick, blake, melissa and melody..
though I might have to replace my melody with Ashle if Melody doesn't step it up...

Ah why can't this show be on every day?

msnicolea
09-08-2005, 10:00 AM
I think Blake is SUPERB--in a class by himself. He may not win, due to fan voting and his showing his ass during the preliminary rounds, but I truly think he's the best one out there, without a doubt.

I think Destini should go. I liked her solo better than Melody's (yes, enough of the leg already!), but man! She had such a bad attitude about it! She has bugged me since day 1.

For the guys, I don't know. I'm tired of Ryan and perfer Jamile. It's seems like Ryan has thrown in the towel and is just going through the motions. My husband, however, is in love with Ryan and voted 10 times for him last night. His Ryan love-fest is cracking me up. He's feeling an Asian connection or something.

I can't stand Blake and definitely perfer Nick. Blake & Nick for sure have the final 2 boy spots tied up. I'm torn on the girls. I like Ashle, so I think she'll take 1 of the final 2 girl sports, but the 2nd is up for grabs. I really have liked Kamilah in the past few weeks.

Is it just me, or does Mia Michaels mispronounce Kamilah's name every time???

JillianS I agree with almost all of your post.

Melody really disappointed me last night with her solo. It seemed way too desperate and boring.

I liked Destiny's solo, but her facial expressions and the lip synching didn't really seem to fit.

Do the dancers choreograph their own solos?

I think Ryan could be an amazing dancer if he had some formal training. The feeling and the movement is there, but the technique is so poorly lacking.

I thought Blake and Ashle's salsa was superb. Although I don't know much about ballroom (so much of the judging is so technical, kind of like ice skating), they were the first couple to look like professional ballroom dancers to me. I would have loved to see Artem and Snow dance ballroom together.

I was amazed by Destiny and Jamile's pop-n-lock routine. It was so old school. I felt like I was watching "Breakin 2 - Electric Boogaloo" :D I think it really showed how versatile Destiny can be.

I love Nick to pieces. I really want him to win. I think it will come down to hime and Blake.

Who should go
Melody - I think she is a wonderful dancer, but could use more experience.
Ryan - It's just time for him to go. :(

Right now I think Ashle is the best female (though I agree with others, she kind of bugs me) and Nick and Blake are by far the best males.

My thoughts on last night's show:

Artem - the guy is brilliant. He has such a good personality too, so that makes him fun to watch, and he's humble, which I think is important. I loved when Dan asked him for lessons.

Melissa - she's okay, not my favourite female dancer though. What is the 'lobster hands' that Brian refers to all the time? She did well in both her dances last night.

Melody - oh please, why did she lift her leg in her solo AFTER Mia told her to stop doing that? I think she's cute and talented but I don't feel the passion in her dance.

Kamillah - I like her the best (of the females). She is a great dancer and looks great. Like HB said, her facial expressions when the judges review her dance are funny. She looks upset almost :)

Nick - he was really good last night, but I think in a dance off with Blake, he would lose.

Ryan - poor Ryan. The judges were very hard on him. He definitely wants to go because when Lauren Sanchez was saying 'if you like Ryan call and vote for him' he was shaking his head, and when she read the number to call he made the gesture of hanging up the phone. He should go, even though I like him he's just not in the same class as these other dancers.

Ashlee - she bugs the crap out of me. I think she has great technique and is versatile, but the girl can't take any form of criticism - and Dan's wasn't all that bad. Her comment about the connection between her and Blake really turned me off her - she obviously thinks she's all that. Maybe that's why she and Blake dance so well together ;) But the girl definitely can dance. (And I agree that I don't think she was a model!)

Destini - has got to go. Even though she's a good dancer, I just plain don't like her - arrogant much? You're not THAT great Destini! At least Brian said he'll hire you.

Blake - awesome dancer. He's probably the most skilled of them all, plus he has the experience. And he's Canadian ;)

Jamile - he's not going to make it past next week's show (if Ryan gets booted next week). They've got to keep the best dancers, and he's just not as good as the other men.

Top (in order): Blake, Artem, Nick
Kamillah, Ashlee, Melody

you had me cracking up with this comment!!!
I love, love, love Ryan, but he, like Snow totaly threw in the towel and everyone could tell. Sigh.....he's so amazing though!!!

Random thoughts on the show.
Am I the only one that still can't see why people think blake walks on water? When he does lyrical he's amazing, but when he does other styles, he's good, but man, Nick - now that's a versatile dancer!! Had to laugh when one of the judges said that at first he looked like Jim Carrey from the Mask with the rose in his mouth, but he really pulled it off and was amazing. As for Artem......God is that man hot. I love that he has been dancing with his shirt open lately!
None of the girls really excite me. Melody - enough of the leg, and yet she still does it repeatedly. The person I like most I guess would be Kamillah - she always looks like she's going to cry when the judges praise her! but man, can that girl dance. She's come a long way.

I think all the praise is going to Ashle's head because she's beginning to develop an attitude. Uh, sweetie, don't forget what happened to your partner Blake when he got too cocky.

Destini certainly looked p*ssed off after her solo. And I agree with everyone who said her air of desperation isn't very pretty. I think it's her week to go.

I am so tired of Melody's leg lifts. Boring, boring, boring. Show us something new already! I'm sure her fan base is big enough to keep her on the show.

I'm not sure which one of the guys will go. They both appear very likable on-screen so I'm sure they have a lot of fans. If it's based on who *wants* to go, then it'll be Ryan. It did look like he didn't want people to call for him.

If the "dance off" between Blake & Nick was in lyrical then Blake would likely win. However, I don't think Blake is as versatile as Nick. However that said, I do know (and have seen pics!) of Blake as a dancer on Britney's Onyx Hotel tour so you know that to do that gig, he had to be able to handle the pop & hip hop choreography.

Hmm - I know - the "contest" could be for leaps & spins! Nick gets some serious air when he leaps/jumps/etc. He did this jump/kick move during the Pop routine that was just incredible.

Does Artem think he can win the more chest he shows. Ugh, I can't stand that guy. Well I guess I do think he's a good dancer when he's a partner, but every time he has to do it himself he just unbuttons his shirt and moves his feet. BORING. I loved Jamille's solo performance tonight. I hope him and Ashley make the vote.

tough that both ashley and melissa are in the bottom two...I think the top three girls really are melissa, ashley and melody...too bad it won't work out that way.

Not sure how I feel about the guys....it'd be so neat to watch Artem do hip hop or something....we haven't really seen him do much variety-wise...

I"m glad Melody finally got paired with a good dancer, eventhough she's been disappointing me lately...but I liked her today.

Again, loved Blake and Nick (though Nick kinda sucked in the Mambo..I thought the lack of heat was his fault...too bad) but he's still brilliant.

I have to admit, even though Artem does the same thing whenever he has to dance for a spot alone, I still love the leg things he does.

But Jamhil (sp?) was really good with his dance tonight (the 45 sec thing, I missed most of the show, so only caught the end)... he did something where he was in slow-motion and then it was like the camera zoomed in on him - but then I realized that the camera didn't zoom.. he did this amazing thing where he slid up on a diagonal toward the camera lense.

It was amazing!

I can do pop-n-lock and hip-hop, but I can't figure out how the heck he did that! It was such a cool effect... everyone went nuts when he did it too.

I missed the last part of the show, so I didn't catch Jamile's performance. My DH said he did a very good job in his solo.

I agreed with the judges for the most part. Nick and Kamilah's mambo was blah. It lacked the sex appeal of a Latin dance. Luckily they made it up with their contemporary routine.

I really liked Ashle and Artem's fox trot. Artem look wonderful. Too bad they messed up the cha cha.

The lyrical dance by Melody and Blake was great, but Blake was much better than Melody. The disco performance was good, but Nick and Kamilah's performance from the other week made it pale in comparison.

No comment on Melissa and Jamile since I missed both of their performances.

Last note: did anyone else think Brian's hair looked like a woman's tonight? Bring back the curly hair please!

I have really gotten sucked into this show over the past few weeks...against my will! :D

I think Artem is great with a partner, but his solo left me a little bored. But HOLY CRAP -- Jamile's solo blew me away!! I don't think he's a better dancer in general, but I would hate to see him get voted off after that performance -- I rewound the DishTV and watched it about 7 times...even got my husband, who has nooo interest in that kind of thing, to come watch, and he was amazed. It was awesome!

Random thoughts from the evening:

I think we've seen the last of Melissa. I love Kelly Clarkson but "Gone" as your solo performance song? Um, no. Please, no.

I'm getting a little bored by Artem. I really want to see him do something totally unexpected. DH thinks his solo song choice might have been a very smart move since it's currently on the radio every 20 seconds. People might not remember Artem's dance, but they'll remember the song.

Blake bugs me. He seems so ingenuine. And is it just me or could he NOT lift Melody tonight and nearly drop her at one point?

Nick is still my favorite. I loved his one footed landing at the beginning. He's just so smooth and graceful. He did dance circles around Kamilah.

At one point I thought Kamilah looked like J.Lo before she started marrying every man she dated and took herself too seriously.

I'm officially calling Bullshit on this show. The fact that Artem & Ashle were in the Bottom 2 instead of Nick & Kamilah was the icing on the cake for me. We all know Nigel wants a Blake/Nick showdown and he'll love on them and bash everybody else until he gets what he wants.

I don't get why some of you are bored with Artem. I required a fanning off after his solo - it was hot. And I'm glad the judges gave him some props for his Paso Doble. When Jamile was dancing it, I was like - you ain't no Artem, honey.

I didn't get the judges raves over Jamile & Melissa's hip-hop. Melissa didn't pull it off IMO. AND, to make things worse, with that big hat pulled down over her eyes, she looked like someone's 12 year old sister trying to dance with the big kids. Everytime their routine had a "sexy" move, I was sort of repulsed because it made Jamile look like some creepy child molester.

Apparently Lyrical & contemporary must not be my thing. Blake & Melody's lyrical was a snoozefest. It was so boring - I felt nothing except a desire for them to leave the stage. All that faux emoting makes me wanna barf.
Blake bugs me. He seems so ingenuine. And is it just me or could he NOT lift Melody tonight and nearly drop her at one point? It ain''t just you. HE totally almost dropped her during their disco routine. I was having Dirty Dancing flashbacks to the lift scene because I thought they both looked amateurish and I thought he was struggling to hold her. Plus - the judges are on crack - their Disco wasn't that great. Nick & Kamilah's was way better.

Last note: did anyone else think Brian's hair looked like a woman's tonight? Bring back the curly hair please! LMAO. Right before the show started when they were showing flashbacks from last week I made a comment to my BF saying "I love his curly hair" and then I see it was straightened. I was like WTF?!?!??

Anyways...I was very very bored by Jamile's 45 sec solo. Sorry, its getting old. As much as I love looking at Artem, he isn't versitle. He has been very lucky to always pick ballroom-ish type dances. I want to see if he can actually hip-hop. His 45 sec- solo sucked too, but I would rather see Jamile go home than him.

People might not remember Artem's dance, but they'll remember the song

...or his hot, sweaty, rippling chest...oooh boy

The first time I saw Brian's hair, I was like OMG. And then I thought, that's kind of cute, maybe I could bring his picture to my hair stylist... :p

I loved Nick and Kamilah's contemporary, I thought it was the best performance of the night. I thought the mambo was pretty good too, not their best though.

I think Melody was lucky she got Blake last night. I think if she were in the bottom 2 again, she would be gone. It did look like Blake almost dropped her once during disco, but the lifts and throws during lyrical were effortless. DH kept commenting on how strong Blake is. There was one throw where I thought Melody was going to get tossed out of the studio! Her landings were so soft and graceful. It was a beautiful routine.

I was sad to see Ashle and Artem in the bottom 2, but I think compared to the others, they belonged there. I really want to see Artem do hip-hop.

I thought Jamile and Melissa's hip-hop was cute, but then again hip-hop isn't really supposed to be *cute*. I think Melissa was wonderful during the paso doble, but Jamile didn't come close to cutting it.

I have figured out why I don't like Ashle. While she is an excellent dancer, I think her performance is lacking. She looks great from far away, but up close there is something about her facial expressions that bother's me.

Ashle is the better dancer, Melissa the better performer. I think Ashle will go this week simply because I think Melissa has more audience appeal.

I think Jamile should go over Artem. I think Artem has shown more versatility.

I guess for me Artem is becoming like Snow. While I like his style of dance when he does it, I'm getting bored of seeing it over and over again. So far, all of the other dancers have been forced to do a style that's completely unfamiliar to them and Artem has been getting lucky with things that are comfortable for him. While he may not autmatically know how to do them, they are more similar to his style than say, hip-hop or contemporary. I'm curious to see what he could bring to those genres.

Both Ashle and Melissa bug me. Ashle because she's overconfident and it shows in her dancing. Everything looks so rehearsed and "going through the motions" right down to her timed facial expressions. I also think she tries to make everything too sexy, as if she feels she is the show's Hot Blonde (which goes along with her talking about being a model in her bio). Melissa, to me, just looks like a crazy person. Her eyes are all over the place and her smile remind me of someone who is on the verge of hysteria. I'm sure she's fine and NOT crazy, but she just looks ... off to me. And I know she's gotta be at least a little bit crazy to do that solo and think it was good enough.

Oh, and her and Jamile's hip-hop routine? EASY!! Please get rid of the choreographer. Everything he does is the same. If I see one more hip-hop routine where the dancers do that straight arm stabbing thing, I'm going to straight arm stab myself in the eye. We get it already. It's no longer original or cool or even looks good.

I'm glad to see someone else cringed during Black/Melody's Dirty Dancing lift. He simply isn't strong enough for tricks like that. The ones where he flips people and moves them quickly are one thing, but a sustained trick isn't his strong suit.

Nick & Kamilah
Mambo - blah!
Contemporary - eh.

Melody & Blake
Lyrical - good, I guess. DO they have to do Lyrical every week? yawn.

Disco - It was god awful. This wasn't disco, it was cheesy and mechanical. Blake fumbled the lifts. I don't see how the judges liked it.

Ashle & Artem
Foxtrot - Excellent - Artem was hot!

Cha Cha - Not great, but I didn't think it was worse than Nick & Kamilah's mambo.

Melissa and Jamile
Hip Hop- I enjoyed it. It was a fun routine!

Paso Doble - Not great. I think it's unfair to compare with w/ Artem, but it is a competition, so

I don't think that Artem and Ashle should've been in the bottom two. IMO, Blake & Melody were much worse on their 2nd song and Kamilah & Nick weren't great in either of their dances. So I'm convinced that the show really wants a Nick/Blake showdown. If that happens, it will become a snoozefest for me and I'll stop watching.

I can do pop-n-lock and hip-hop, but I can't figure out how the heck he did that! It was such a cool effect... everyone went nuts when he did it too.

Same here! It's such a cool move. I'm always amazed when I see guys do that. I want to learn it!

Did Brian and his 'do remind anyone of the Crying Game?

I think Melissa and Artem should go. I'm over Artem's solo routines and I'm sick of seeing his chest. There I said it.

I'm in the minority, but I like Ashle. :)

I really don't like Blake. I was telling DH that he was on Britney's Onyx Hotel tour, so if he had played his cards right he could have been in Kevin Federline's position. So my DH asked if that meant K-Fed could have been dominating So You Think You Can Dance. :)

I also forgot to mention that I really really really liked Ashle's solo. Unique and well-danced. I loved how she rolled up off the floor in using the fronts of her feet. And her leaps and landings were awesome. The whole routine just went with the music - primitve and raw. Girl's got skillz

(I don't think I'll ever be over Artem or his abs)

My husband is a really good dancer, espcially hip hop style, and he was digging that move Jamail pulled out in his solo--that was HOT!

I think Ashlee is the best female dancer left, without a doubt. She is technically excellent--I think voters, though, might not think she's as attractive as Melissa, so. . .

The producers probably do want this, but I think it's ultimately the right call: Blake v. Nick. I think they are far and away the best 2 in the competition.

So agree!!! I've been watching for the past few weeks, and I have to say I was pretty shocked when Ryan was sent packing. I thought Ryan was WAY better then Jamile/Jamail/however you spell it.

And I don't care WHAT the judges say, the only reason Melissa is on the chopping block is because of her partner this week. :)

We slow-motioned Jamaile's little move and I figured it out - I mean, not that I can completely do it, but I know what he did and why it looks so cool. A lot of it lies in making your upper body completely static while having this quick-moving control with your feet.

I'm torn between Jamaile and Artem. I think I want Ryan back. Artem is freakin' hot, but he hasn't been proven to be versatile. Jamaile has proven that, but I just don't like him all that much. So I guess Jamaile deserves it.

I don't have an opinion on either one of the girls b/c I haven't watched them very closely throughout the show.

I would love for pas de deux to be in the hat. But it's not, is it?

So, who watched tonight? I LOVED the disco Nick and Melody did. Totally awesome. Although Nick's solo didn't leave me wanting more...

I think we've seen the end of Jamile... How he stayed over Artem this week is BEYOND me. I think his 'saving grace' was the cool move in last week's solo.

I also think Ashle is done for. She didn't impress me at all this week.

Last night the first 3 routines from each couple were all awesome. I wasn't too sure what was supposed to be happening in the Smooth Waltz but it was very beautiful. Nick & Melody's Broadway was awesome (could Nick be any more flaming? I think not after that!)

I enjoyed Blake & Ashle's tango but feel that Ashle was unfairly targeted for the routine lacking heat. When the judges commented that they didn't feel any passion, I was literally screaming at the Tv - That's because Blake is gay!! He just can't do it (or Nick for that matter). Now, I'm sure there are some gay male dancers who can fake that sexual connection with a female partner but I don't see Blake or Nick doing it. How awesome would it have been to see Artem do that Tango routine?

I thought Jamile & Kamilah's jive routine was great but agreed with Mary when she said it started great and then they sorta lost their mojo midway through.

Of the solos, I was happy to see Melody do an upbeat, fun routine (and no leg-lifting in sight!). Kamilah's was different & fun. Jamile & A
