I'll put the info in white in case you don't want to be 'spoiled.' Dial Idol (the people who track the busy signals and usually predict correctly who is going home have: Sanjaya in the Top 3!! Melinda and LaKisha are safe as is Sanjaya. Everyone else is an elimination risk, although Jordan is listed 4th so I doubt she'll be gone.

Here are the official (or unoffical as they may be) Dial Idol results from last night.

1-2 Melinda Doolittle -
1-3 Lakisha Jones -
2-5 Sanjaya Malakar -
3-12 (B3) Jordin Sparks -
3-12 (B3) Brandon Rogers -
4-12 (B3) Phil Stacey -
4-12 (B3) Gina Glocksen -
4-12 (B3) Chris Richardson -
4-12 (B3) Haley Scarnato -
4-12 (B3) Blake Lewis -
4-12 (B3) Chris Sligh -
4-12 (B3) Stephanie Edwards

I'm embarrassed to admit that my mom and sisters are voting for Sanjaya! My sisters did because they think he's cute. (They're in middle and high school). My mom voted for him because she felt sorry for him. I told her if she felt sorry for him she should stop voting for him so he can go home.

Please, for the sake of America's ears, please do not vote for sanjaya? :( How much more pain do we need to go through? I can't believe he ranks higher on that list than the other gal.

Keep in mind with the dialidol results that the bottom 8 or so are all within the margin of error--literally, the person listed as 4th or 5th in votes could actually be 12th and be voted off. Only the top 3 or 4 are totally safe. (Even so, I'm rather stunned at the general order of things, though.)

At LEAST he was in the bottom 2. America sent the wrong guy home, but at least he was in the bottom 2.

Did anyone hear this though - when Sunjaya walked back to the seats, did anyone else hear booing? DH and I thought we heard it. I sure did boo in my head, but it says a lot if they did there at the show. It could have been Brandon's fans, but still.

The wrong guy went home, again.

Argh!!!! I liked Brandon! I can't believe he goes and Sanjaya stays.

Bottom 3 were:

At least Sanjaya was in the bottom 3, though. I'm going to take that as a good sign.

This may have already been said, but did everybody hear the gasp of SHOCK from the audience when they announced Sanjaya was safe? And then the stunned silence and minimal applause? It was quite obvious that people knew who really deserved to go home. Now America needs to vote Sanjaya off to just save the poor kid more embarrassment...

I guess my feeling that Brandon would be kicked off was right on. I just knew that some how Sanjaya would skate by. Its only a matter of time until he goes. Hopfully , this coming week will ot have to endure anymore Sanjaya. YUCK!

Me too. :) I couldn't decided if she reminded me of Dream Glow Barbie or P&C.

To me it looked like she was trying to attach that thing to her butt but missed so she just threw it to the ground. Definitely NOT a flattering dress.

I am totally going to have to look back to listen for booing....

Sanjaya is not going anywhere until there are fewer performers and the vote for the worst people stop having as much power. Plus by having him in the bottom 3 all the girls that thing he is so *hot* will vote that much more for him to save him.

Scooter
03-15-2007, 12:30 AM
LOL at Peaches & Cream Barbie! I've got her stored away somewhere, too. :D

Sanjaya making it through based on teen girls voting for him is such a flashback to season one and Justin Guarini getting to the finals.

What do we have to do to get people to stop voting for f'ing Sanjaya?!

WE need to make a UNITED FRONT, Ladies!!! Let's ALL stand up and stop griping about who doesn't get kicked off and just VOTE VOTE VOTE (obviously NOT for Sanjaya) for your favorite!!! That is the ONLY way to get him OFF the show!!!

It's very obvious that the young teenage girls have no lives and most likely call in over & over & over again to vote for him. This is just appalling! Their parents need to start taking their phone privledges away!!! They don't care about the QUALITY of the singer. What they see in him is beyond me. Then again, I never thought Michael Jackson was anything to ogle over when I was a teen either.

So, LADIES, lets get together for a group hudle and all PROMISE to vote A LOT for the BEST next week! :D

P.S. Sandie78.... You MUST take the phone away from your mom & sisters!

One of the other big problems is that votefortheworst site. Howard Stern even shouts them out on his radio station. It says plain as day...vote for the worst...vote for Sanjaya!

That makes me so mad! Brandon wouldn't have won, but he didn't deserve to leave over Sanjaya.

i heard the booing. i am not upset brandon got booted. i thought his performance was terrible. at the very least, sanjaya knew his words. i am also not surprised that only guys were in the bottom bc the guys just aren't up to par with the gals.

anyone think haley performs so much better in the group songs?

wouldn't a better strategy be to vote for everyone but sanjaya than vote for one person a lot?

Anyone see Diana (who I thought didn't sound that great) almost fall over in that dress/thos shoes?

Not that I'm upset last night's show was only 1/2 hour, but they could have easily milked it for a whole hour. I wanted to hear Brandon sing again. Now there's no one left to look at this year :(

Brandon was mediocre. He forgot the words to a song most people can sing without any preparation in the shower. He deserved to go eventually.

BUT Sanjaya was exceptionally awful for the third (forth?) time in a row. And he knows it.

Someone show some mercy of this poor kid and stop forcing him to perform week after week after week...

SMgal
03-15-2007, 06:11 AM
Honestly, I was shocked and appauled by the CHEESE factor in Diana's introduction.-Standing there in that dress with both of her arms out, while the curtains opened. It looked like it was 1974! On top of that, she didn't sound great.

MsPeachy
03-15-2007, 06:17 AM
I am not surprised at all that Brandon was booted. He didn't have much onstage charisma though he tried. I think he knew he was going.

I am annoyed at Fox in that they are still shoving too many commercials into the show so there's no time for the sing-out. I mean, could you imagine if they tried that with any other show?

My fear about Sanjaya being in the Bottom 2 this week is that the tweens will vote extra-hard for him next week and someone better will get booted.

May27JnJ

On a different note--LOVED the 'fro that they put on Chris S. during the music-video segment!

If Brandon had only remembered his words...maybe the right Idol would have gone home. You can tell that even Sanjaya knows that he doesn't deserve to have made it this far.

I was disappointed that Phil was in the bottom 3. I thought he was the best guy Tuesday night. I wasn't totally shocked that he was there, though; like I said in the other thread, he was the only contestant I was actually able to vote for (the others had busy signals for a long time). I kinda thought Chris R. deserved to be there instead.

Assuming voting matters (;) ), no. That would spread the votes out across too many people, while Sanjaya's mafia continues power voting for him.

Also, we don't know that those guys were the ones in the bottom three as far as number of votes go, do we? Ryan never said that.

I'll have to see if I can go find out what next week's theme is. Please let it be better than this week. Yawn.

Another random thought:

Did Gina cut her hair or was it up in the back? I think Jordin needs to keep her hair curly, adds to her charm and personality. I hate when they do that to the contestants.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought Diana sucked. She's going on tour, too. She needs to hang up the gloves and go out better than that.

I was also glad they didn't have time for the singing at the end. It has never made sense to me why they have them sing the very song that got them voted off the show!

Scooter
03-15-2007, 10:41 AM
I agree about not liking the sing off. If people wanted to hear them sing again they would have voted for that person. A lot of times the 2nd time is worse than the 1st time around, anyway.

On vote-off night I am so glad I have a DVR. I can't STAND those cheesy group songs and commercials they do. And I skipped through Diana's performance, too; it didn't sound good at all.

I just saw this on votefortheworst.com:
Go Sanjaya! And thanks to everyone who voted for him! If we can move him ONE more week into the top 10, he'll go on tour and have to sing a Gwen Stefani song. So we HAVE to vote as much as possible next week.

I am really starting to feel bad for Sanjaya! The poor kid is 17, doing his best but is being kept on the show because people are out there voting for the worst? That's got to be hard for him. I wish the people who are voting for the worst would stop because it's just not fair to him (although I'm sure he has his fair share of teenage girl followers). He knows he should go, we know he should go, so hopefully he'll go soon and stop being humiliated like this!

So far, Melinda and Blake are my favorites. Melinda is just amazing and I really like how unique Blake is.

Me either, because if anyone would ever be able to produce proof that it was done that way, AI would lose alot of credibility. I have a feeling that another PP was right, Sanjaya could well end up sticking around till we are down to the final five or six people and their fans close ranks, leaving Sanjaya out in the cold. Its going to be a long couple of months if thats the case. :(

The site has been around for a number of AI seasons now. If you go there, it actually says that their goal is to get him on the Idol tour and they have a sincere desire to see Sanjaya get a record deal out of all of this. As if. Anyway, TPTB at AI can't do a thing about it...Vote for The Worst is protected under that lovely thing that America enjoys called 'Freedom of Speech'. Unless they are hijacking copyrighted material or something like that, there's nothing that can be done about it. Unless people want to start their own Vote For the Best website, we're kinda stuck here.

ETA: FWIW, no way in a million years do I think he'll win this. Its just like Chicken Little and Jon Peters..he'll go away eventually.

I'm sure Vote for the Worst has something to do with it, but I really doubt it's the only reason. Antonella was their pick up until she got voted off. I seem to remember Kellie Pickler being their pick for a long time last season and she didn't come close to winning.

nylons73
03-16-2007, 04:05 PM
Vote For the Worst doesn't have as much power as people would like to believe. Before this last round, VFTW had Antonella and Sundance as their 'votees.' and both of them ended up going home.

No way is VFTW the reason that Taylor Hicks won! It was the millions of votes from his 'soul patrol' that got him through. He was smart to cultivate a fan following and cater to it every week. Katherine was a not-even-close also ran in the finale (according to the votes cast.)

It's British artists/groups right? The Eagles?

MsPeachy
03-20-2007, 07:18 AM
The Eagles Oh my god no. The Eagles are American as hell.

The period known as The British Invasion typically means the 60's - ie The Beatles, The Byrds, Herman's Hermits, etc. Elton John, Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, etc. are not a part of that time frame.

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Invasion)
A musical movement of the mid-1960s, the British Invasion was composed of British rock-and-roll and beat groups whose popularity spread rapidly to the United States

Sh!t!!! I meant to agree with southerner and say that Beatles. I was listening to the Eagles on Lite 98 here. Hotel California.

I definitely think someone will sing the Beatles. I guess that's what I get for playing on the computer while working.

IMO - Whoever is picking these themes is a mean person. I don't really know anyone who can sing a Dianna Ross song, and now getting people to sing these songs. I guess we'll see what happens.

I say Blake does the Sex Pistols. Or maybe Sanjaya will. lol

Eta: oops, guess the Sex Pistols didn't come over until the 70's. Is the theme tonight strickly 60's British Invasion?

sublime311
03-20-2007, 11:06 AM
Here are more British Invasion people:

Rock swept Britain. By 1964 Greater London could claim The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Who, The Kinks, The Pretty Things, Dusty Springfield, The Dave Clark Five, Peter and Gordon, Chad and Jeremy, and Manfred Mann. Manchester had The Hollies, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, Freddie and the Dreamers, and Herman's Hermits; Newcastle had The Animals; and Birmingham had The Spencer Davis Group (featuring Steve Winwood) and The Moody Blues. Bands sprang up from Belfast, Them, with Van Morrison to St Albans, The Zombies, with more inventive artists arriving to keep the syles moving forward, including The Small Faces, The Move, The Creation, The Troggs, Donovan, and John's Children.

From 1964 to 1966 the United Kingdom sent a stream of hits across the Atlantic. Behind the conquering Beatles, Peter and Gordon ("A World Without Love"), the Animals ("House of the Rising Sun"), Manfred Mann ("Do Wah Diddy Diddy"), Petula Clark ("Downtown"), Freddie and the Dreamers ("I'm Telling You Now"), Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders ("Game of Love"), Herman's Hermits ("Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter"), the Rolling Stones ("I Can't Get No Satisfaction" and others), the Troggs ("Wild Thing"), and Donovan's ("Sunshine Superman") all topped Billboard's singles chart.

From here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Invasion).

ETA: Ooo, here is a more comprehensive list (http://musicmoz.org/Styles/Pop/British_Invasion/Bands_and_Artists/).

There is no way they would get the rights to sing Beatles songs is there? I had heard a rumor that there was going to be a Beatles theme night. So they may have gotten rights, or some rights.

I think there's also going to be a Standards night. I read something on the FORT about Tony Bennet being a guest star.

FYI - The Eagles Hotel California is on again! Hee! I think an Eagles night would be a great theme. Especially since they've had tribute albums where other artists have covered their songs using different styles.

DH, who's out of town, actually waited until the commercial break before Sanjaya's performance before calling me. He knew that I couldn't care less if I saw his performance or not. The girl was giving me a Marcia Brady flashback. Seriously. Remember the episode when she first got braces?

I was wondering if that was actually the best part of Sanjaya's performance, since I was only half-listening. I was about to say, that's pretty scary if it was.

Melinda and Jordin brought it home again. LaKisha...meh. Did okay with the song, but wasn't my favorite performance of hers. And Chris S. was much better this week. He so reminds me of a friend of mine from college. If my friend could sing and had longer hair...freaky. Lovin' the "Fro Patro!"

For my bottom 3? Sanjaya, Gina, and Chris R.

To go home? Sanjaya. Please please please please please please...

Jordin is by far my favorite girl! I think she has an old soul that really comes out in her signing. I love that she's a bigger (tall and a little thicker, too). I think she'll do much for the self-esteem of a lot of girls.

ETA: The show just ended here in the southwest and the conversation about the show seems to have tapered off, but I have a few more things.

One is that I didn't think Gina was TOO bad. I really want her to do well so it's hard to offer up an objective opinion. It wasn't her best, but I don't think it was bottom three worthy.

Also, I thought Chris S. had a great comeback this week. I agreed with Paula that he was a little stiff walking through the crowd, but his response about being chubby and clumsy was funny. He's a cool dude.

The other Chris (R), though... I just don't dig him. Not at all. He seems like a nice kid, but I don't like his voice - it just seems so whiney to me. I was surprised that the judges liked him as much as they did.

Melinda is supremely talented, but I have a hard time with her for some reason. She's just always so doe-eyed. I get that's she's a nice person and that there needs to be more nice people, but it's just annoying that it's always brought up. Also... Her jaw/neck reminds me of Lionel Richie. I'm constantly thinking about that when she's performing. Ugh, I suck! I know, I know, she's so nice, how could I be so mean?

My bottom three were Stephanie, Phil and Sanjaya. Stephanie looked super nervous tonight. I think she knows the end is near. Phil is just an odd ball. He's so awkward and googly-eyed that it's hard to take him seriously. Sanjaya. Well, it was one of his best performances because he didn't stare into the camera with a big glossy smile, but... it's still only high school talent show worthy.

Sanjaya, be gone!

I'm only halfway through but had to post to say WOW... Jordin was AWESOME!! That was a really amazing performance.

Was really disappointed in Lakisha tonight. She definitely should have chosen the other song. Diamonds Are Forever just didn't suit her voice at all.

Again Blake was my favorite, but it could be cause he's my boyfriend. :) He was really good though.

I'm sick of Melinda's song choices. I am so bored by them. She has an amazing voice and all I want to do is FF through her. I felt like her song didn't really fit in the theme of british invasion.

Haley finally sounded good. Jordin was great.

I was disappointed in LaKisha's song choice tonight. First off, I was really hoping she'd listen to Lulu, because I think she's have been dynamite with that other choice. Second, my brain was super bummed when the entry of the song didn't lead into Kanye West's Diamonds from Sierra Leone. I was ready to jam! Anyhoo, that song was boring and kinda creepy, IMHO. She's super talented, but I've enjoyed her more in past performances.

Jordin is so talented. What Simon said about wanting to jump off a bridge really made sense to me. She was that convincing in her performance! She did awesome. :D

I really enjoyed Blake's performance tonight. I loved what he did with his beat boxing and the acoustic guitar. Really smart and cool. :)

I totally agree. I forget about her EVERY WEEK!! My mom and I always talk after the show, and it never fails that I forget who the sixth girl on the show is (Stephanie). I think she is good, just doesn't stand up next to girls like Melinda, Jordin, and LaKisha. Gina stands out because of her style, and Hayley, well I'm not a fan of Hayley, but you get the picture.

Ditto! I watched the rest of the show this morning and wanted to FF right through Melinda's song. I get really bored with the ballads that she picks. She is a wonderful singer and performer but I get tired of the song choices. If she put out an album, I probably wouldn't buy it. I have the same opinion with Lakisha lately too. The song Lakisha picked this week was just boring. She was all made up like an old lady too.

On the other hand, I thought Jordin was spectacular with a good song choice even though it was a ballad and a little morose. I would most definately buy an album of hers.

Haley was really good this week. Her voice was very good although it faltered a little when she walked around the stage. She did look hot though.

I'm afraid for the results tonight. Sanjaya will probably stay because he performance wasn't ulta-sucky this week. We could actually HEAR him sing this week.

I did not like Chris S.'s performance this week. His vocals were not that great and he looked uncomfortable on stage too. Chris R. is just too nasally for me to enjoy.

Blake was awesome. Loved the "flava" he brought to the song! He's hot! My DH hates him. Probably because he is jealous that he can't dance and beatbox. HA! :p

Gina was 'ok'. I really loved her haircut but agree with a PP that it kept flipping in her face. That annoyed me. The start of the song was bad but the vocals in the end were great. I hope she stays on longer.

Stephanie will probably be going. If not, maybe Phil. :(

It seems like last night's show was a one with a great deal of differing opinions. From what I've read both here and on the FORT, people have lots of widely varying comments on each of the performers.

My personal rankings:
Tied for 1st - Jordin & Melinda (I couldn't decide who I liked better)
3. Chris R.
4. Lakisha

After Haylie went the first thing I said was "MUCH better - and her boobs bouncing around in that shirt will carry her thru to next week regardless!". Then SImon made the comment that people would be talking about a lot more then her singing this week - ha!

The crying girl - PRICELESS! I laughed SO hard due to the fact that she was crying over Sanjaya ... but it really was so so SO adorable. And she wasn't just crying like that for him she was crying like that for everyone. I thought it was just so precious that she's so in awe of these people. At this age it's kind of hard to remember what that feels like :) Brought me back to when I was a little girl and got MJ's "Thriller" alblum. No I didn't cry but was SO freaking excited b/c I thought he was just SO cool. HA!

ETA: seriously, when he says "who's your daddy?" I want to yell "YOU ARE!! YOU'RE MY DADDY!!"

Y'all are HILARIOUS!!!!

Jordin: She's awesome. I didn't think so at the begining but she has really came into her own and stepped up her singing.

Melinda: Still love her but she's getting boring.

LaKisha: She should'a picked the other song.

Stephanie: Say buh-bye. I haven't liked her since the start.

Gina: She's okay, I love the rocker in her but she has pitch issues.

Haley: Gotta love that two-sided tape! She did really well.

Phil: I still like him but he's kinda getting old. He is still screaming into the mic or at least it sounds like it.

Chris R: Love him because he's from my area, but he has no "drama" to his voice, KWIM?

Chris S: Okay performance, I missed the begining where he was in the audience though.

Blake: I love his style (he wears the coolest pants!) and his attitude on stage. Love the beat boxing and how he changes up a song. He did awesome!

Sanjaya: Will probably be around for a while. I'm really glad that he showed some spunk last night, even though his singing was bad.

Has this been posted yet? I didn't see anything...

Identity Of 'Idol' Crying Girl Revealed!

First things first: Who was the crying girl? After the show, I chatted with Idol's newest superstar, the crying girl, Ashley Ferl, aged 13, from Riverside. For some long minutes after the show, Ashley remained in a state of inconsolable sobbing, unable to choke out a single word. However, through an interpreter (her mother) we were eventually able to learn some facts about the young superstar.

The family, I was told, obtained tickets on a website to attend a taping of "Smarter Than a 5th Grader" a day passage that included not just the taping of the show itself, but also the dress rehearsal of either "Grader" or "Idol." The fates were kind, and the mother and daughter found their way to the "Idol" rehearsal, where Ashley's waterworks began. Her prowess was quickly brought to the attention of "Idol" producers who summoned the clan to a ringside seat of honor at the final taping. My DH has a theory on Sanjaya's lack of ability to perform:
Sanjay's biggest problem is that he is a virgin and that is why when he tries to be cool or sauve in the songs, or bring the "smooth", he isn't smooth:) and the main reason is you can't sell what you haven't done. So instead of pulling it off it seems creepy.

This affects everything b/c he tries to be "sexy" but "you can't sell sex if you have never done it" and the reason the teenyboppers like him is they know no different-he is a pretty boy who is trying hard but they dont know any different. Anyone who has had sex sees right through it and its just creepy.

sublime311

*phew*

Yeah, I haven't really dug Chris R.'s vibe - I'm not surprised he was in the bottom.

swcolleen
03-21-2007, 07:32 PM
I just can;t believe that Sanjaya didn;t go home! And it was evident from all the boos when they said that Haley, Gina and Sanjaya were not the bottom 3 that "america" audience at least didn't agree. And then they booed again when the bottom two are up there to get the results-does this happen every year? THis is my first year watching!

loving624
03-21-2007, 07:35 PM
I have a feeling they were booing bc they thought those 2 shouldnt be in the bottom 2.

But the fact that Sunjaya is safe amazes me. Do the teeny boppers have that much power in a vote? That's gotta be the only people voting for him. I cant believe he is in the top 10 and they have sent some of the others home.

sublime311
03-21-2007, 07:37 PM
Aww.. I like Gina.

The booing happens every year, I think. This year, there is a stronger sense that Sanjaya (versus anyone in any other season) does not in any way shape or form belong in the top 12.

swcolleen
03-21-2007, 07:37 PM
I got that they didn't think the bottom two shoudl be the bottom two was why they booed too. I admit Chris R and Steph were not my top two but they were definately not my bottom two either!

Sophia

Gina seems nice & has a good personality, but my ears were bleeding when she sang Paint it Black. That's an awesome song and her rendition was not good at all. my dh listens to howard stern, and he said that a few weeks back Howard was being accused of telling people to vote for Sanjaya since he was so bad.
i guess since Howard heard that people were saying that he wanted the votes to go for him, that now he is promoting it. telling people to vote for him to see him go to the end when he doesn't deserve it.

i can't stand to see Sanjaya get to be there another week, when he doesn't deserve to be there

This is really starting to get annoying. I seriously can not believe what is going on with the voting. I do not think Stephanie would have won but she is hands down better than Haley, Sanjaya, Phil, Chris...I feel like the show is becoming kind of a joke this year. The vote for the worst stuff is having too big of an influence.
Although with that said, I have no favorite at all this year like I have in past seasons with Carrie and Chris Daughtry and the Clay/Ruben year so I really don't care all that much

I'm not surprised over who got voted out, I predicted it this morning when I posted - and for the first time EVER I was right. :)

I was surprised that Sunjaya was not in the bottom 2, as well as being surprised that Chris R was.

As for virgins not being able to imitate sex while on stage...I refer to Britney and all the other little pop tarts who made their sexual image the major factor in them selling so many albums. Sunjaya just isn't sexy...virgin or not.

Not surprised at all by Stephanie getting the boot last night. If you listened back to her singing on Tues night, she was just awful. Off pitch and all. Boring to watch. She picked boring songs every week.

I hate to say this but I'm glad she's gone. At least it is somewhat fun(ny) to watch Sanjaya on stage. Gives me something to look forward to for laughter for the day! HA! :p

Has anyone else heard what next week's theme is? I heard something about GWEN STEFANI!!! Anyone else hear this news? I LOVE LOVE LOVE her music, but does that mean all of the contestants have to pick one of her songs, because that will just be bad bad bad!!!

I'm not surprised that Sanjaya stayed. He was much more entertaining this time than he has been so far (comedy is a form of entertainmant, no?). DH and I were plotzing when he performed.

I was really hoping Hailey would go. Stephanie was boring, but her other performances proved she could sing. Hailey has been consistently mediocre. She sang an safe, not-very-challenging song and strutted around in her short-shorts.

I wish there was something that we can do to get Sanjaya off the show. One thing is he will be going on tour with AI. Grrreat! And he will be on the AI cd. Cute! I don't know how he's gone this far. Not surprised at all with last night's results. I along with other posters here repeatedly forgot about her so there's no question her mediocre performance made her forgettable to the voters as well. I was surprised to see Chris R in the Bottom 2. I thought it would have been Phil for sure. He might have a bigger fanbase than previously thought. Has anyone else heard what next week's theme is? Current Rumor is that next week's theme is the 90's. The Top 9 show theme is the Standards (or something similar - the one with Tony Bennet) You may have heard the Gwen Stefani thing though because she is attached to perform on their "Idol Gives Back" charity show.

I agree that Sunjaya seems amused by it. He just sits there and smiles at them, like he doesnt have a care. He does seem nervous still to me on results night, which he should be, but I think he feels good about it right now.

I just hope that as the singers dwindle, that more voting goes towards the favorites and that will outweigh the people voting for him.

with sunjaya, i think its just a respect thing. it would go against his indian heritage to not put on a happy face and talk back to the judges. i think he had a blast this past week bc he probably just let it all loose bc he thought he didn't have much to lose since i think he is well aware of the fact that he is worst up there. most of the time he actually looks quite uncomfortable and the smile is just to hide his true feelings.

American Idol's Crying Girl: In Her Own Words

American Idol's newest breakout star, tear-drenched 13-year-old superfan Ashley Ferl, has embarked on the first leg of her worldwide publicity tour, appearing on this morning's Today Show to chat with Meredith Vieira about fulfilling her dream of hugging feather-haired, music-destroying karaoke demon Sanjaya Malakar, a brief embrace that will nonetheless permanently arrest her emotional development. Her eyes spinning like pinwheels powered by the hellwinds rising from whatever chamber of Hades Malakar calls home in his Idol downtime, Ferl explained how she handles the blasphemies of those who would speak out against her warbling master, who was vindicated by last night's baptism into the Top Ten... story & links Here (http://www.defamer.com/hollywood/american-idol/american-idols-crying-girl-in-her-own-words-246361.php)

I thought he was just being polite be not back-talking to the judges. He seems like a soft-spoken polite kid. He's only 17 and it's hard having 3 adults criticise your performance so harshly at that age (or any age, for that matter), especially in front of 30 million viewers!

And the bottom line is, despite the judges' most brutal criticism, he keeps getting enough votes to stay, so why bother to defend himself against their (obviously irrelevant) comments?

Alright - here's the PR for next week

Gwen Stefani to Mentor the Top 10 Finalist on American Idol (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/news/87/18587.php)

Grammy Award-winning artist Gwen Stefani will work with the Top 10 finalists next week on American Idol Tuesday, March 27 (8:00-9:07 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), and will perform "The Sweet Escape" with Akon on the results show Wednesday, March 28 (9:00-9:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. It will be a pop-themed week, as contestants pick their favorite songs from that genre.

Stefani is an award-winning singer, songwriter and fashion designer. She co-founded Orange County, CA, band No Doubt as a teenager, and the group's third album, "Tragic Kingdom" (1995), propelled them to stardom and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. It spawned the singles "Just a Girl," "Spiderwebs" and the No. 1 smash "Don't Speak." Stefani released her debut album, the three-times Platinum "Love. Angel. Music. Baby.," in 2004. Its massive single "Hollaback Girl" became the first song to exceed 1 million U.S. digital downloads, while "Rich Girl" and "Cool" were two of 2005's most popular radio singles. "The Sweet Escape" (2006), Stefani's follow-up album, includes the hit "Wind it Up" and the title track "The Sweet Escape" (featuring Akon), which is currently No. 3 on Billboard's Hot 100. Stefani is also known as a fashion innovator, having debuted her signature high-fashion clothing line L.A.M.B. in 2003 and a second, more accessible, line called Harajuku Lovers in 2005.

<snip>

It will be interesting to see what comments she gives to the contestants. I've always considered her more of an entertainer than a great vocalist but there's no denying her success in the Pop arena.

I listen to him. And I don't think it's a fault ;)
Anyway basically he didn't start the whole vote for Sanjaya thing ... that came about on his show b/c of him talking about "Vote for the Worst". Then his listeners started talking about it and jumping on the "VFTW" bandwagon. They actually had the guy who created VFTW on the show this week. I do agree that his fan base is most like contributing a LOT to keeping Sanjaya around now tho. Crazy.

Sanjaya
I don't think he's making a "game out of it". I mean at this point what is he supposed to do? It's not his doing that a website is naming him "the WORST" and encouraging people to vote for him as a goof. If you think about it I'd imagine that must be pretty embarassing for him. I think he's just trying to be polite and make the most of his time there! He really does seen like a kind person. That is it - I am becoming a full fledged Fanjaya!

Regardless, someone who loves him has to tell him what the world is thinking/feeling. He will be on the tour. He should gracefully bow out and allow the real competition to begin.

I think this will come to maybe one call per household? Or God forbid, the judges actually putting through only the VERY best. I mean, how did he get through? I know I'm a broken record, but he's good enough for a HS talent show, but no where near good enough for AI.

I agree. He seems so young and innocent I really think he has no clue what to make of all of this. I do feel sorry for him. He's actually not a bad singer, he's just not cut out for this and it's coming off badly for him. I think it would be hard for anyone to handle all the heat he's catching and he's doing exceptionally well considering his age.

I think it's funny that Antonella got praised for how she "handled" her drama when she didn't do anything but ignore it and act like a brat on the show.

Regardless, someone who loves him has to tell him what the world is thinking/feeling. He will be on the tour. He should gracefully bow out and allow the real competition to begin.

I've wondered that too, but I get the vibe he comes from the kind of family that would strongly discourage such a thing. He might pass on a tour though.

I mean, how did he get through?

Cause he's a good singer when he chooses what he sings. He's just way out of his league with these songs.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he deserves to outlast several people on the show, but he will. He won't win though, and that's really what matters.

Could we please not call him Mowgli? He may be a bad singer, but he has a name, and calling him Mowgli seems racially insensitive.

I totally disagree with this. There's nothing wrong with comparing him to Mowgli from The Jungle Book. Other boards are referring to him as 'Suckjaya' and worse. Making an obvious connection to a 'famous' little boy is only a comparison. I think the Jungle Book thing goes far beyond looks. The whole innocent 'huh?' personality that Mowgli has during the movie is the same one that Sanjaya diplays on stage and in interviews. Other contestants have backed that up in what they have said about Sanjaya and his personality.

Would I ever go up to him in person and call him Mowgli to his face? No. but then again I wouldn't call him 'Suckjaya' to his face either. Message boards tend to discuss topics in a humorous way. If you feel that you need to call each and every contestant by his or her name, I don't think message board conversation is for you. I shudder to think what you'd think about the other names floating around FORT and TWOP.

So mad at my DH now!! He doesn't watch Idol but heard about Vote for The Worst and thinks its hilarious. He swears he is going to "do his duty" and vote for Sanjaya tomorrow night. I might just have to hide his cell phone when he isn't looking. :p

Did anyone see SNL this weekend where they made fun of Sanjaya? I feel bad for him. He's just a kid and it's not his fault people keep voting for him.

I totally disagree with this. There's nothing wrong with comparing him to Mowgli from The Jungle Book. Other boards are referring to him as 'Suckjaya' and worse. Making an obvious connection to a 'famous' little boy is only a comparison.

I kinda see it as the same as saying that little Kevin kid looked like Chicken Little..which I still think he does!

We saw it...I hate to say it but I laughed hysterically during that segment. :o The guy who did it had Sanjaya's performance of "You Really Got Me" down to a "T", including the hair and facial expressions.

When I first read someone calling him that nickname the first thing that popped in my head was that it was racially insensitive. I don't know, it just brought the Little Black Sambo controversy to mind for me.

Suckjaya & the other nicknames are different--they're about his performances. But Mowgli refers to his race, so it's not comparable IMO.

Totally! Did you know that the local pizzaria (where Kevin is from) now has a pizza named the 'Chicken Little?' LOL He goes in there and orders a slice all of the time! :)

When I think of Mowgli, I think of his hair...that's what I figured the comparison was. (Well, the hair and bad singing...with a bear)

I don't think anyone ever meant anything racial.

Absolutely! It's the hair, and the 'aww shucks' attitude (LOL at the bad singing with a bear!) that made it a great comparison for me.

No. I never met anything racial. I just see the Jungle Book Boy in him, nothing racial.

Should be an interesting show though, looking forward to it.

Oh I laughed too. The guy looked just like him with that hair and huge grin. I loved his jacket.

But I still feel bad for him.

Has anyone seen predictions on their song choices? I usually look at the Television Without Pity boards, but they are down. :( I'd appreciate a link if anyone has one. :)

Agreed. The resemblance in his being lanky and awkward and his haircut and overall demeanor. Sometimes, you can't help but be reminded of someone.

I agree with someone else who said it was like the comparisons of last season's contestant (can't recall his name) to Chicken Little. He just LOOKED like him, that's all.

If Sanjaya sings "Sunday Morning" I will seriously lose it. Just lose it!

Thanks for posting that, Southerner. Those are some pretty good choices. I think it would be really cool if Jordin sings that! :)
