I don't usually post in here even though I read along...But I had to post tonight...I loved loved loved Blake! I'm a little biased since he's from my hometown, which isn't enormous and I gotta root for the hometown boy.

I also thought Phil and Lakisha were good. I didn't dig Melinda this week and Chris couldn't compare to Daughtry from last season. IMO Jordin was bad.

It really kinda sucks since the votes are combined with last week...everyone seems vulnerable. Based on both weeks, I think Chris should go home.

ETA~ Even though I loved Blake I want his old hair back, Oh yeah and JBJ is yummy!

Hey, I was just coming in here to say that I was rooting for Blake because he's from my hometown! :) I agree, gotta root for the hometown boy! Glad to see he did so well tonight!

On a sidenote, April 11th is officially Blake Lewis day in his hometown. I decided to do a little research and the city of Federal Way refused to make April 16th Sanjaya day. Here's a tidbit from the Sanjaya story from here (http://tv.popcrunch.com/federal-way-washington-refuses-to-hold-sanjaya-malakar-day/).

Federal Way, Washington has “more important things to do” than hold a day honoring their hometown “American Idol” finalist.

Fellow Washington state American Idol finalist Blake Lewis has been recognized with his own day by his home city. The proclamation designated April 11 as Blake Lewis Day. But Federal Way officials say there will be no day off for Sanjaya.

“That city’s manager says Federal Way has more important things to deal with and won’t push to give the 17-year old a proclamation.”

Why did Melinda sing the one BJ song I had never heard of? I find her so annoying.

Maybe you didn't recognize it because she sounds so much different than the original "Have a Nice Day". That song came out last year. Very popular "pop rock" song. I think you would recognize it if you heard the BJB version. :) IMO, I HATED how Melinda sang it. Like another poster said, way too soulful and Tina Turnerish.

Least Favorites from last night:
Jordin :( (I'm scared that she may have sucked so bad that she will get voted off)
Melinda (I just couldn't get into the song)

Favorites last night:
Blake
Lakisha (I actually thought she did an awesome job with that song)
Phil
Chris R. (for once I LOVED his voice and thought he brought it this week)

Going Home:
Have no clue... maybe Phil and Chris... hopefully not Jordin (she was way out of her element last night)

P.S. Who dresses Lakisha anyways? Her outfit was horrendous last night!!! I was kind of embarassed for her really. That shirt was awful.

I loved loved loved Blake last night. I even kept the episode so that I could watch it more;) Made DH watch it too and he usually won't watch AI.

I really was confused about why Simon felt the need to kiss Lakisha. That just seemed so odd and out of place.

I didn't really like Melinda's rendition. I think if she had taken Jon's advise and sung it more like "church" she would have done a lot better. She can't really sell he rocker chic thing to me.

I hope Jordin is safe, that song was really bad for her, but I don't think she should leave because of it.

As soon as I saw Lakisha standing by the stool instead of sitting, I KNEW it was because she was too embarrassed to sit down in that body hugging outfit.

I think Phil, Chris and Jordan are in the bottom three tonight. At this point when people are generally good, the personality plays a factor. Phil was okay (a bit karoke for my taste) but his comments were odd last night ("that's okay Simon, my FANS vote for me!"). Chris' performance was among the weakest but also his "nasal is a artistic choice" comment will bite him in the butt. And Jordan's performance not only bit the big one, but am I the only one who cringed when she told Jon "Oh, my MOM got me into you!"? You better respect your "elders", sweetie! And Jon is hot hot hot. Yummy.

My wishlist for the bottom three (based on performance only) are Chris, Jordan and Melinda.

I hated Lakisha's outfit too. That shirt thingy was horrible. Poor child!

I didn't like Melinda's song at all, but she vocally she still sounded great. I don't even know what the original song sounds like. But from what it sounds like from the judges and what people are saying here, I will give her credit in that she didn't "copy" the song exactly and she changed it up a bit. The judges always criticize for sounding just like the original song. I didn't like it, but she at least tried to change it up. If she felt "Tina Turner" worked for her, why not go for it?

I'm worried about Jordin too. She didn't sound too great. Still like her a lot, but last night was a little tough for her.

Don't know about Chris.....hmmmm....

Gotta say again that Blake rocked the house! Can't wait to watch his performance again on You Tube. :D

I was also confused by this. It seemed so awkward.

I was very impressed with Blake last night, although I am not loving the dark hair. I really want to watch his performance again.

I also enjoyed Phil and Lakisha (but I wish she would have chosen something more fun).

Jordin was disappointing, but hopefully she'll remain in the competition since she has become one of my favorites. I did not like Melinda--her voice in that song was really strange for me, and I just could not get into her rocker vibe. Chris has been my least favorite for a long time now, so again, I was not impressed.

It's so funny how different everyone's opinions are! I HATED Blake's hair and his version of that song. I wish he would have just sang it as intended-the singing part was great. I just could not deal with all of that beatboxing. It totally ruined my 12 year old girl memories of rocking out to that song at the junior high dances.:(

I didn't think Lakisha was all that great. Of course, she can sing, but I wish she would have picked a different song.

Jordin was horrible. Horrible. Which sucks because I really like her.

Last night was the first time I actually liked Chris' performance! It finally didn't sound like every other song he's sang.:p

And I actually liked Phil again.

I thought Melinda did pretty well-I called the Tina Turner-ness right away.

I was so bummed at the end. I said to DH "Who's next?" and he said "That's it." I wanted to hear more-they could have easily sang two songs each last night!

JBJ has been recording for at least 27 years. I don't see why Jordin's comment would be offensive. If her mom was a teenager when she started listening and was a super fan who continued to follow his work - it wouldn't be shocking that Jordin grew up listening to him at home. It's a testament to his long successful career.

FWIW, my mom turned me on to Queen when I was young, too. I probably wouldn't have listened if it wasn't for her.

ETA: Elvis was another one my mom turned me on to.

I always lurk here, but I just had to post to say how awesome Blake was! When BJB first said he wasn't sure about how Blake was changing up the song, I was nervous for him, but he really did an incredible job with it. I watched it 3 times!

I liked the attitude Melinda showed on her song, I also thought Tina Turner when she was singing it.

Melinda was terrible, and I normally really like her. Was embarrassed for her with the "mom" comment too, and also wondered how old her mother was.

I can never get into Phil, he doesn't do it for me.

Lakisha did a great job vocally but I didn't know the song.

Chris was ok, but not as good as Chris D. last year on that song.

I don't see what the big deal is, either. So what if she said her mom turned her on to Bon Jovi? I don't see how it's stupid or insulting. Maybe it's because I'm "old" myself. I did notice, though, that JBJ's face looks weird, like he's has plastics.

I'm surprised so many people liked Blake's peformance (and hair :p ). I thought both were annoying. I've never understood his appeal, though. I wish he'd go away. The novelty of his beatboxing wore thin a long time ago, and his voice is pretty weak.

Chris sounded horrible, as usual. I hope he goes this week.

Phil was ok. Not great, not horrible. I'm pretty indifferent towards him. Which is pretty shocking, considering he creeped me out so much in the beginning.

Jordin. Oh, Jordin. That was some major suckage. However, she was great last week, and they're adding the scores from last week and this week, so I think she'll be safe. Especially since I had such a hard time getting through to vote for her last night. I'll be very upset if she goes--one bad performance isn't sufficient to boot her, IMO, especially when others have had several bad performances in a row.

LaKisha was better than she's been in a while. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't think it'll be enough, though, as she's had so many bad weeks lately.

I thought Melinda did ok.

Overall I thought it was a pretty boring episode. Too many chose "signature" Bon Jovi songs, which I think was a big mistake, especially since none of them sounded as good as the originals. Plus I'm not that big a Bon Jovi fan. DH, OTOH, is a huge Bon Jovi fan and was even less impressed than I was.

I predict Chris & LaKisha will go home.

I HATED Blake's version of the song--I just do not "get" him at all! Plus, I love that song, and it did not work for me.

I thought Lakisha was wonderful, and I don't ususally dig her, and I liked Melinda, too. Phil was solid--perfect song for him.

In re: Jordin--I don't have words. Worst. Performance. EVER.

I don't get why the mom comment was offensive--her parents probably aren't that much older than me--they certainly could have been fans of BJ.

Jon Bon Jovi is a GOD--he gets better and better looking evey year. Oh, I do love him so. Married to his HS sweetheart--big time charity giver--he's just the perfect man!

I never usually post here either, but I HATED, HATED Blake. DH and I were both cringing listening to it. I guess I just prefer the original version. His hair didn't bother me too much. Put me in the side of the 50% of America who did not like Blake!!! I agree with JBJ this is a singing competion and I want to hear the person sing not scat or whatever he does. Yea, I will give him props that it was orginal, but wait until you get your record deal. Also, did not like the hair at all made him look to old.

I feel bad for Jordin because this was not her week and I hope it is not like Chris Daughty last year where you have one bad week and then you go home. I just would not like that. I think Jordin has an amazing talent and has better pipes than any of those guys.

I have been so surprised with Phil the past three weeks, it is like he came out of his shell. Reminds me of the Kimberly Locke season, she was always in the bottom 2 and then bam she was in the final three.

I can not believe that 2 will go home. My predication is Lakisha and Chris. Those 2 just dont do anything for me anymore!!!

On one more side note. JBJ is just yummy!! I can not wait for his performance tonight.

Ugh I didn't like Blake either - why did he keep looking to his right at the drummer? It made me think they weren't in synch or something. He should have just sung the original version because the singing parts were good.

I thought Lakisha was awesome and Jordin was horrible.

*sigh* The reason I felt that Jordin's lack of tact in her "mom" comment was slightly offensive is that it just highlights the vast age difference between her and many of the potential voters. Yeah, my parents turned me on to a lot of different types of music but I certainly wouldn't insult the artist and older viewers by mentioning it. If she had just said that she grew up listening to his music, that would have been much better. Yeah, we know you're young - you don't need to slap us across the face with it. If you didn't think the comment was bad, then that is certainly your right. I thought it came across as immature and tactless, and I wouldn't be surprised if other people felt that way too.

True that Leslie.

I didn't think Jordin's comment was insulting or odd. I think it just goes to show that there are a lot of JBJ fans out there and have been for years...generations even. My DD is 17 and I grew up on JBJ music back in my teen years (and still LOVE them, even though DH doesn't understand why). I think her comment was meant to tell him that she'd grown up listening to them, not that she didn't just start liking them recently with their new pop hits.

I LOVED BLAKE and I'm not usually a fan of his. But I think his twist of a much-overplayed song was right on. He made it fresh and new and I played it back a few times. He kept the chorus original but played with the other parts, and that's what really made me appreciate his version even more. My DH (who likes Blake) hasn't heard it yet because he was on the phone last night, I'm anxious to get his reaction. DH was a DJ forever and hates the song (again, it was totally overplayed) but I think he'll like Blake's rendition.

As for last night, my fav was probably Blake, then Phil, then Lekisha.

Jordin just totally sucked last night, but she knew it and at least she said something about it. I hope she doesn't go home because she has so much talent, and can really sing.

Melinda is getting on my nerves. Totally over the whole "deer in the headlights" look that she kept giving JBJ. At least Simon has called her out on it a few times. I thought her voice was too "raw" for that song, it sounded like she was really straining to do the whole "rocker chick" thing. It was annoying.

Chris Richardson has to go. I don't like his whiny/nasal singing, whether on purpose or not. In the begining he had that whole Justin Timberlake thing going on, but now even that is an insult to JT.

So I'm hoping that Chris is in the bottom 2, and really hoping that someone other than Jordin goes home along with him.

You know what I think the judges wanted to see last night? They wanted to see the contestants take songs that are well loved by a huge rock band and make them their own. That is why Lakisha, Blake and Melinda got the love last night.

The only problem with that is that they are well loved songs by a huge rock band and people like the originals. However, at this point in the competition, you need to have a sound. People need to know what they are going to get when they buy your album. Copycat performances are just not going to cut in it the judges eyes, except for Paula who doesn't count.

I happened to enjoy the three performances last night that I listed above because of that. Those performances had the energy of the performers and sounded original...not karaoke.

Of course, not everyone is going to like the soulful sounds of Lakisha or Melinda or the beatboxing of Blake. Honestly, I don't like Blake much, but I really enjoyed that performance. It was good and fresh and fun. Melinda showed an edgy side of the song and Lakisha finally showed some personality.

This is just my opinion though...and not that of management. Oh, and the kiss...I think it was cute. Simon finally got thru to Lakisha...she sounded like she did the first week and she did what the judges wanted.

Oh and Jordin, she needs to rest her vocal cords. She is sounding rough. Really rough.

I agree. I am not a fan of Blake's whole beatbox thing.

I was pleasantly surprised about LaKisha and Melinda. I really thought that they would do HORRID, but they turned out to be really good. I agree with the comments about LaKisha's clothes though, she needs a new stylist. I am really hoping that the previous week was enough to keep Jordin in there. I think she is an awesome performer and singer, rock just isn't her thing.

I really liked Blake too :p Seriously I thought that it was different and a good twist to an old song. I guess I was in the 50% that liked it! I hope he's safe and I am betting he is.

I really hope that Jordin got enough votes last week to keep her from going home this week since she really didn't do well last night. She is may fav and I think she would have the most success putting out an album.

Melinda - Eh...she's very good I just can't picture what kind of an album she would put out and I highly doubt that I would buy it.

Phil - Actually I liked it okay! He has really made me like him the last few weeks. It's either him or Lakisha going home.

Lakisha - I am glad that she showed a bit more personality last night and I really liked her performance. I don't know if it was enough to save her though.

Chris - totally going home.

I am betting that Chris is for sure a gonner and then it will be between Lakisha & Phil depending on last weeks votes. I have a feeling it will be Lakisha going home since Phil has been doing well lately and gathering new fans.

Huh? Her mom probably did get her into them. Bon Jovi has been around for awhile, it's not like this will shock them. They were probably a lot more prominant when her mom was younger. DH and I cringed a little when the "MOM" comment was made. NO ONE, even Bon Jovi, wants to be reminded of how old they are. I did not find it offensive, but I think it does show her immaturity a little.
It's funny to see how everyone either loved or hated the performances. I knew Melinda's song and thought she did a good job, she is just a natural performer. Chris I can not stand, he was tolerable last week but that was it. Blake I thought was good and original. Lakisha was better than she has been in ages and Phil was good too.

I'm pretty sure it's already combined. Those are the predictions for "this week." If I click the drop-down to choose a different week there's not one marked "last week," just one marked "week w/ 7 idols" which would be 2 weeks ago, as well as ""8 idols," "9 idols," etc...

Ok, I don't know if this has been posted or not, but you have not lived until you have seen Julien, from French Idol singing this song...

Well if you liked that, then you'll LOVE this one..Julien rocks. He has a lot of charm despite his lack of vocal skills. haha..

The best is when he tries 2 times to jump on the piano. I wish American Idol had someone like him! Then we'd have a show! :)

Anyone else checked "upcoming episodes" on TiVo? We were just checking to see what next week's genre wold be and it lists 4 names. Anyone else notice this?

Posted in white:

Melinda, LaKisha, Blake and Chris.

I'm pretty sure that it's just an alphabetical listing of the contestants as of the time the description was written, but who knows...

Lakisha and Melinda are the first two safe.

Phil is the first going home.

I think I'm gonna miss Phil. He'd grown on me, quite unexpectedly. I hope he gets signed as a country artist. I think he'd be great in that genre.

Well, apparently TiVo was just listing the contestants alphabetically.

I'm a little surprised about Phil. He'd really been doing well these past few weeks. I also think I might have rather seen Lakisha go before Chris.

Oh well, Blake is safe! I think Lakisha will go next, followed by Jordin and we'll have a Blake/Melinda finale.

I was surprised Phil went. I thought it would be LaKisha.

I'm doing a happy dance Chris is gone (although I'd have been happy to see Blake go). :)

I think LaKisha and Blake will be next to go, with a Jordin/Melinda finale.
