Ugh this just sucks.

I have only watched one whole season....last season, I got sucked in to Chris Daughtry.

This season is losing appeal for me. Not one of the people are wowing me. Yes Melinda and Lakisha can sing, but they are pretty boring for me.

Part of me (the sick twisted part that only watched the auditions to see how horrible people were) want to keep watching at least until Sanjaya gets voted off, part of me knows that if my DVR has a conflict....AI will lose premium standing.

*shrugs* It will be interesting to see how this thing all shakes itself out.

Now I have to watch for the Ford commercials....although...those aren't impressing me much this year either.

*sighs*

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought MB seemed off. I don't usually listen to his music, so I wasn't sure if I was just being bitchy and that is his sound. I wasn't watching, just listening and I kept looking up every time he seemed to stop short or mess up or something. It was really weird. And the Antonella thing was totally bizarre--I thought maybe it was planned, but I'm guessing not.

ETA: Thanks, Mrs. Pell! I had no idea it was him!

I enjoyed MB - that's his style, as far as I know.

Anyway - this Sanjaya madness must end. I have a feeling that as folks' faves get voted off, they transfer their votes to Sanjaya out of spite.

In the grand scheme of things, I guess it doesn't matter because I don't think he will win - but I will wretch if there is a Sanjaya finale.

If this Sanjaya madness doesn't end, I think AI's days are numbered. Which may not be a bad thing, lol.

I like him a lot, but I think his voice was slightly slurred or he was trying out some new accent.

I kinda hope he would sing Feelin Good, since it's been sung 3 times so far this season but it's just as well. He wasn't as good tonight as I have seen him before.

I am having the hardest time staying interested this season. I was utterly ambivalent about Gina leaving.

Who is Michael Buble? A new artist? Established?

Established. He's been popular for a few years now as a modern crooner--sings all the old standards.

I'm a HUGE Michael Buble fan!! I thought he sounded great! He sounded just like he did in concert! AMAZING!! He could sing to me all night! *sigh*

We didn't watch the show Tuesday night, and we didn't watch the show last night. Although DVR caught it and we just watched Michael Buble and the results. This season is a big disappointment. I don't think I'd care if they didn't have another season, honestly.

Sanjaya and Haley should be gone! The only reason Haley is here now is because she started showing her legs. DH loves her. He always says she's the best.

In concert, Michael Buble is a total goofball. He runs around the stage and stops in the middle of songs. If anything, my guess is he was on coke. He kept sniffing... Or maybe he had a cold and that's why he sounded off to many..? I think the Antonella bit was staged.

I was REALLY sad to see Gina go. Maybe she wasn't always consistent, but she had personality-plus and I was really rooting for her from all the way back to the auditions. It freakin' sucks that she left before Haley and Phil. I feel as exasperated as Simon when it comes to Sanjaya, so I won't even go there.

Exactly. Her performances put me to sleep. Her adult contemporary/elevator music sound just doesn't do it for me. On the other hand, I would kill for her legs.

I had to check the volume on my TV to make sure the sound wasn't messing up with Michael Buble. It sounded like he cut the words in half sometimes, and he kept looking around with this expression that says "oops, I screwed up, haha".

It's such a trainwreck-I can't stop watching. I was absolutely floored that Gina went home. Probably the best thing that could have happened to her, though. I can't see her being pigeon holed into the AI image singing crappy songs like "Do I Make You Proud".:p

yeah, I think I'm done this season as well. Sanjaya is the one who most deserved to go then Hayley. The only reason Hayley is still around is because she's good looking. How obvious is she with her outfits. That girl is no dummy.
I was sad to see Gina go. She did a good job.
Not diggin Lakeisha anymore. She too lost me on the "diamonds are forever" song. Blech.
I'm getting tired of Melinda's false "who me, I'm great?!" attitude, although she is the best in my opinion.

I thought that the creator, Simon Fuller owns the show, not Simon Cowell.

DOH! :o Your right Sophia...I get the Simons confused.

As soon as I saw how they had them grouped last night, I told DH exactly who the top, middle and bottom groups were. It was painfully obvious and I was pis$ed that they did it like that. And did anyone else want to smack that cocky smirk off of Sanjaya's face? God, I hate him more with every passing week. He is making a total mockery of the show and obviously thinks its fun to do so.

Okay, so DH's arguement with the whole voting for Sanjaya thing is that it is America's way of protesting that the show isn't really a talent show but a reality show and the best singers don't even get a chance to go through to sing for Paula, Simon and Randy during the auditions process. He says that they need to stop sending the horribly bad singers through and make sure that the good ones get their shot, otherwise its not fair. I swear, I don't know where this coming from with him..he sounded like he was quoting directly from VFTW website. I do understand the basic mentality, but sending Sanjaya further and further into the competition to send a message to the producers just seems so unfair to the rest of the contestants and really just pointless overall. I almost want the producers to step in and pull the plug on this whole ugly mess.

If Sanjaya wins, Fox might as well cancel AI. I understand that's what happened to Pop Idol (the English show that spawned AI). Somebody over there who was a talentless hack won the competition and the next thing you know, Simon C quits and the whole show was cancelled.

Go ahead America, keep voting for Sanjaya. The cruelest joke is that when his album doesn't sell, he'll be dropped like a pancake by the label. Who will be laughing then?

They only had 2 seasons, so two Idols, and I thought they'd both had some chart success over there.

You're so right about Sanjaya and the record deal scenario. That would be really sad. Sure he's cocky and doesn't seem to get people are voting as a joke, but he's only a kid.

I almost want the producers to step in and pull the plug on this whole ugly mess.I don't think that is from VFTW, I think it's the way a LOT of people have been feeling for several seasons now. I've read so many blogs, articles, etc. where people describe what it's like to go before 20-something PAs who decide whether a singer gets to move on or not. Like those PAs have any insight in the music industry? I think not. Other things I've read is where people have been told "we're not looking for _____ style today" And also where people who've been dressed up or had some gimmick didn't even have to try out, they just got ushered right in. The bad auditions aren't even funny anymore. The show's producers need to get a clue that the public is tired of hearing this crap. Unfortunately, as long as the show keeps generating the ratings, they'll continue with the status quo. I'm not even sure Sanjaya winning would change things.

I'm not voting for Sanjaya - but if I were, it would be because I'd WANT to see American Idol canceled.

That's been my point all along - I think people are sick of the show posing as a talent competition when it isn't - not truly. Thus, some voters have decided to use their votes to make a point - it has nothing to do with wanting Sanjaya to go anywhere. He's just a pawn to get AI canceled or at least to have the producers retool the show.

I think this whole VFTW stuff is going to mean that AI has to change or it won't last much longer. For fans who honestly want to vote for the best, they lose interest if they can tell that their seriousness is being made a mockery of.

Hmmm interesting. Maybe AI and VFTW have a pact, lol. The VFTW gets everyone to generate interest by voting for the worst and then AI gets more people tuning in to see the trainwreck and to try to vote for the other contestants in the hope of outvoting the VFTW people. Shock-u-drama.

I thought VFTW was trying to get AI retooled or canceled, but maybe they are working with AI?

I think Gina going home now was really bad. I mean, I know she wasn't going to win, but she should have stayed over the other bottom 3 and of course Sanjaya. For me, if AI dosn't change the way the votes work, for example one vote per contestant per household, I probably won,t watch after this year.
For whatever reason Fox/AI feel that it is better to get "the most votes ever" rather than have a real talent contest.

I don't really follow along, I only semi-watch idol (don't hate me!) but I don't get why they don't do the voting like Dancing with the Stars. I believe that is a combo tally between the judges and the phone in votes. Wouldn't that at least help get the bad people voted off. I am sure the judges would give Sanjaya at most a 0, and I don't think the public could make up enough votes to keep him.

(sorry if this has already been discussed)

Also, I thought it was funny how Sanjaya's dad was giving everyone around him high-fives! Does he really think his son has talent (yea yea, he does, but come on!) I did tell people at work from the first week of 12, that I thought Sanjaya was going to win it all. No one believed me, now they are all thinking the same thing! LORD HELP US!

Tears, wild hair, unhealthy songs banned on China's 'Idol' show (http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/articles/0406ChinaIdol06-ON.html)

Associated Press
Apr. 6, 2007 08:32 AM

BEIJING - Tears, wild hair and unhealthy songs are banned when China's latest version of "American Idol" goes on the air next month.

"No weirdness, no vulgarity, no low taste," the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said Friday in a notice to the producers of "Boys Happy Voice," according to the official Xinhua News Agency.

"Happy Boys Voice" should include only "healthy and ethically inspiring" songs and avoid scenes of screaming fans or losing contestants in tears," the regulator was quoted as saying.

The show should "maintain a happy atmosphere," SARFT said in the notice to the show's producer, a television station in the central province of Hunan.

It said scenes of wailing and screaming were "low taste."

And in a move that would shock Simon Cowell, the acid-tongued judge of the Fox network's "American Idol," the broadcast watchdog said judges were prohibited "from mocking or humiliating contestants."

Contestants must be at least 18, and Xinhua said "their hairstyles, clothes, fashion accessories, language and manners should be in line with the mainstream values."

Bolding mine.

I guess Sanjaya's hair wouldn't have been a fit in China's 'idol'!

Also how hard would it be to not shed any tears for someone/yourself when they go!

Kentucky Fried Chicken 'sweetens' offer for Sanjaya (http://blog.mlive.com/idolchatter/2007/04/kentucky_fried_chicken_sweetens_offer_for_sanjaya. html)

April 9, 2007

An open letter to Sanjaya Malakar:

Congratulations on surviving yet another tough elimination.

Last week, Kentucky Fried Chicken® offered you a free lifetime supply of KFC Famous Bowls® if you donned a bowl hairdo. You chose instead to wow the judges with a slicked-back do, a white tuxedo and your trademark showmanship.

The judges and critics may think you're a long shot for a recording contract, but at KFC, we think you're a real "original." And as the experts in Original Recipe® Chicken, we know an original when we see one! In fact, today, I would like to sweeten our tasty offer by serving you up your very first recording deal.

If you sport a bowlcut hairdo in a nationally televised performance, KFC will grant you a free lifetime supply of KFC Famous Bowls and a charitable donation in your name - plus $5,000 in cash and your own starring role in our next KFC Famous Bowls advertisement.

Now, that's an offer almost as juicy as our KFC world famous chicken and a deal that could help provide young people with much needed college scholarships via our Colonel's Scholars charity.

Win or lose, we're confident that KFC's deal will help turn millions of viewers around the globe into "fanjayas."

Your Fan,

Gregg Dedrick
President of KFC

This happened around here a couple of seasons ago when Vonzel Sollomon was on. Although I didn't mind to much because she was actaully decent. But a lot of these contestants do end up with "hometown votes". People voting for them just because they are from the same town. It's almost an un-fair advantage to the people that come from big cities as opposed to small towns.

This show and it's method of choosing a winner is really just a joke anymore anyway. The most talented ones never actually end up winning anyway.

Okay, I thought it was hilarious when Simon called Hayley out for the way she is dressing. He's right on.

Phil...sigh. If I close my eyes he's tolerable. But the second I look at him it's over. And what's with his 40-year-old golfer hat? Not so convincing on Latin night.

I don't think anyone has done that well tonight. Sort of boring so far. Blake's my favorite so far I guess, but still not my favorite performance of his. Sanjaya is still left though, so I'm preparing to be blown away.

I guess Phil and Hayley will be in the bottom two. Not sure who will join them, probably Chris. I don't think Sanjaya sucked enough to earn him a bottom 3 spot.

Well I got a little tired of all the Gloria Estefan and Santana songs, but oh well. I don't really like how they are letting the guests pick a list of songs within the genre, I like when it is more wide open. Here are my thoughts on tonight:
Melinda - I am getting a little bored by her.
LaKisha - I did not realize that she is a mother and I think she dresses a little racy and lets way too much hang out considering she is a mom and plus sized.
Haylie - I was thinking the same thing Simon said, at least she has figured out how to get votes. I didn't think she was any worse than the other ladies that sang before her.
Phil - I am tired of his stupid hats, either he is going to have a shaved head an own it, or look goofy in those golfer hats. His mouth was distracting to me tonight.
Jordin - She is probably my overall favorite, but I wasn't wow'ed.
Chris - I though he did pretty good and I don't know that I ever noticed how pretty his eyes are. He was the second best of the night for me.
Blake - Interesting that he sand a song by Mark Anthony. I think he probably did the best of the night.
Sanjaya - I think he was equal to the other people besides Chris and Blake tonight. Lovin the 'stach tonight.

Overall this was not a good night. Hopefully next week will be better.

I was almost as bored as last week, but more annoyed because I didn't expect to be so bored.

Nobody was great, but just a few comments.

I'm completely over Melinda and LaKisha. They have great voices but have gotten soooo boring.

Chris R sucked. It's called an ñ, guy. She even told him how to pronounce that one word and he couldn't get it right just that one time. And his voice is awful.

Haley & Phil also sucked the big one.

I was surprised that Sanjaya didn't totally butcher the Spanish part, especially after Chris R and LaKisha couldn't get just one word each right--I have to give him props for doing a decent job. I can't believe I just said that.

It cracks me up that Phil keeps wearing these hats and pulling them over his Dumbo ears.:p

Blake definitely won me back over with his performance! I was bored silly by Melinda, but I thought Lakisha did great. No one else really stood out for me either way. I'm going to guess Hayley or Chris will go home tomorrow.

Despite the fact that tonight's show was a snooze fest, was anyone else surprised at how helpful Jennifer Lopez was? I thought the advice she gave the contestants was very specific and spot on. I thought her dancing advice was a bit excessive, but she was right about everything else. I guess that's why she's gotten as far as she has with such mediocre talent - she knows what works. :p

I agree that J-Lo's advice was great. I was impressed with her comments and suggestions.

Blake was my favorite of the night, though I wasn't overly excited with his performance, either. LaKisha did a nice job, and I thought Sanjaya did pretty darned good, too. I thought Hayley did the worst. I predict that Phil will be eliminated this week.

This season has been so boring!

If Haley appeared to take such offense to Simon's comments last week about her legs, why in the heck did she wear those shorts tonight?

Melinda needs to stop the "deer in the headlights" look. I expect her to pull a Sally Field and say, "You like me, you really like me."

I'm all for Lakisha being confident in her looks, but she needs to wear clothes that fit. The upper back of her dress was a bit too tight.

What was up with Jordin? She looked like she was having a miserable time. And why did she shrug her shoulders in the middle of the song? It was as if she was telling someone that she didn't know why something had happened.

I didn't think anyone was that impressive tonight. But Sanjaya did better than I thought he would. I think Phil will be going home.

I pretty much hated all of last night. Why do I torture myself and watch this show every week? I had a feeling the Latin theme week was going to be all Gloria E. and Santana songs. Ugh. So boring.

My favorites of the night...
Blake
Chris R (I think I liked the band better than him though)
Jordin (hated the song but she sang it well)
Sanjaya (did I just write that??? )

Worst of the night:
Phil
Haley .... I think if she goes any shorter with her shorts, she is going to end up wearing just a thong next week! Blech!
Lakisha (it is a singing competition but that DRESS was soooo distracting!)

Melinda did okay, but again, she bores me (as does Lakisha).

I, too, think Phil will be going home. I think he knew it too because he took that bow at the end. ;)

Wow - another night where everyone's opinions are widely varied.

My Faves of the Night - Melinda and Phil (for a shocking change!)

Least Faves of the Night - Jordin (the girl does nothing for me and all in my house asked "WTH were the judges listening to? Boring and Yuck" <- in my DH & SS's words), Haley and LaKisha

Who I think should go home based on last night's performance: Haley
Who probably will go home: Phil

Overall - Latin night shows that these performers have little to no rhythm or sensuality to their singing. Meh.

The numbers mean the possible "place" that contestant got: 1-6 can be as high as first or as low as 6th, 1-8 means as high as 1st or as low as 8th. B3 means bottom 3.

OK, I was an AI virgin until last night (this thread got me, umm, curious). IMHO, Hayle sucked. BIG TIME. Ick to the nth degree. Phil was, indeed, flat throughout much of the song. Bad. Jordin, meh. Cute, but not much of a voice. Simon was right on on the first woman (Melissa?). She sounded like a lounge act, not a pop singer. Good voice, bad style. The chubby woman (I don't know her name) who was all over the stage -- ooh she could not hold a note. Get her off that darned stage! After all the Sanjaya sucks stuff, I thought he was OK. Off key in Spanish, on key in English (he also messed up one word in Spanish consistently, but we can forgive him that). Blake rocked his song. Not sure how he has done in prior performances, but I can definitely see him as an AI.

I'm not a big JLo fan, but I think it's because her songs don't really feature great singing or show off one's voice. They're fun and catchy, but that's it, and as we can see these guys can't dance much, so the performance of a JLo song (IMO) wouldn't be a good choice.

For Sanjaya, that was good for him, thought maybe not great in general.

Okay I was prevously a pretty big Idol fan but MAN is this season boring! I am talking even-with-JLo-as-a-guest-coach-BORING!!!!
I am not even sure what it is exactly. Can't quite put my finger on it. Just painful. Not sure why I'm still watching. I think the whole Sanjaya business is actually the only thing that keeps me tuning in. AI should thank their lucky stars for Sanjaya b/c without him I honestly don't think they'd be getting half the audience that they are now.

The cruise ships are going to be banging down Hayley's door when she gets kicked off. I think she's good and all .. but everytime I see her preform with the eyes and the hand motions it just SCREAMS Kathie Lee Gifford on a "Fun Ship" cruise. :)

Lakisha
I think there is a huge difference between wearing something sexy and wearing something ill-fitting. Personally I do not at ALL agree with the implication that she should *not* be dressing sexy b/c she "is a mom and plus sized". Moms and/or plus sized people can certainly dress AND look sexy! I will agree with the comment that the dress she was wearing didn't quite fit her properly and was pinching in the back in an unflattering way. That could have been adjusted a bit. But hey - we don't know what happened there. Could have been that she just got stuck with a dress that turned out to be a wee bit too small. Last minute adjustments couldn't be made. Who knows.

I was going to post almost the exact same thing. I absolutely agree that there is no reason that plus-sized women and/or moms can't dress sexy. But the dress that Lakisha wore was SO unflattering and SO not sexy! I couldn't even pay attention to her singing because I was so distracted by the horrendous fit of the dress. She had actual lumps of flesh sticking up in the back from the dress being so tight. Not sexy. Not flattering. Not fashionable. She has worn several dresses through the season that were sexy and flattering. Last night must have been just a screw-up by the wardrobe department.

I didn't mean that plus-sized women or moms couldn't wear or be sexy. I am plus sized and feel that I can be sexy without revealing half of my boob like LaKisha did in that dress. She has worn other dresses that were not as revealing as that one and I just think that they looked much better on her. Oh lordy the group sing was horrendous last night!! One of the worst I've ever heard. And the most awful part - when Hayley and Sanjaya were singing off-key together. Yuck!

I was a little surprised though pleasantly at the results since I felt sure it was Phil going home. I think even Phil thought he was going home. You could see it in his facial expressions. He was smiling and getting ready to accept the bad news and when Ryan told him he was safe, it took a minute for him to process that and he had a confused expression on his face.

I thought J-Lo's performance was pretty good even though I didn't understand a word of what she was singing. Even Akon, who I'd never heard before, wasn't too bad. The song he sang was boring but he has a bit of Marley in the tonality of his voice and it was nice to listen to him.

I loved when JLo gave the talk about it being more important how you make people feel a song then if you have a great voice. So true for her.

As for people saying Taylor should have won over Chris, I think the fact that Chris's CD made Taylor's look like a joke speaks for itself ;)

I wonder if Sanjaya wins how many albums he'll sell. Seems like people actually like him.

They may like him but they're probably not willing to shell out $15 for a cd (or 99 cents ea for a digital file). See Taylor Hicks.

Next week Phil will go, then Chris and I don't know after that, maybe Jordin?
We haven't really had the token shock value vote off yet this year. IMO, Gina doesn't qualify for that. I think it will be one of the three females left before a male.

From what y'all are saying (minus the group song), last night's show sounds good. haven't watched it yet.

I had never seen AI before this week (apparently, I had been living under a rock). Last night was pretty good. A qualified pretty good. They started with all the contestants singing together, and that was an unholy mess. La Lopez sang, and I have to admit, her singing has improved greatly, as has her Spanish diction. Her outfit was not to my taste, but then, de gustibus non est disputandum. They are having some kind of charity show in a couple of weeks, and the host kept asking Evil Simon if he (Simon) will sing if they raise $20 million (no). $21 million? No. They'll have to talk about it some more, but it was a funny moment. They showed Evil Simon in Africa with some schoolgirls, showing a "Schoolhouse in a Box," which is bought with about $183 (IIRC) via UNICEF. One of the girls drew him on a chalkboard with man boobs. Coming back to the studio, the host made fun of him for it, and Simon blushed on live TV. Paula Abdul looked stoned throughout, and was barely able to speak. The host had some fun with Sanjaya, making him wait until the end to get his results.

Eh I don't think he has that many fans that would actually drop cash on a CD. But if he won I think it would be hilarious that AI would have to give him a contract and market him. Maybe that will encourage them to upgrade the voting system.

They're only free if your plan comes with x amount of text messaging. Mine doesn't, so I pay for each text message I send. It's not much money, but I still mainly call in my votes. I don't text enough to make it worth getting a package that includes it. This is pretty much the only time I've EVER texted anything.

"Idol" Reject Is Trying to Screw the Show (http://www.tmz.com/2007/04/13/former-idol-reject-is-trying-to-screw-the-show/)

Last season's petite powerhouse phoned into the "Tone E Fly Morning Show" in Minneapolis today, and called "Idol" "a joke," and said she and a few other contestants are using the Web site VotefortheWorst.com to screw with the results.

3. Sanjaya Malakar - "Boot Scootin Boogie" by Brooks & Dunn
4. Lakisha Jones - "Concrete Angel" by Martina McBride
5. Chris Richardson - "Over And Over" by Nelly and Tim McGraw
6. Melinda Doolittle - "Why Haven't I Heard From You" by Reba McEntire

I think the second set of predictions are a much better fit for the contestants. As an avid country music fan, this is my favorite week! Although, I get frustrated when none of the contestants or judges know anything about the music or song and tell them they did bad when they did good or vice versa. But, I like those songs. I don't think the song was too big for Lakisha. For one, the music was way too loud, and I think if she didn't have to work against that, she may have done a little better. I think she can sing just about anything. Her performance, as it stands, left a lot to be desired.

All he said was that his heart and prayers are with them. That he has a lot of friends there and to stay strong.

I have no idea why Simon rolled his eyes but the producers must have said something because there was a bit of damage control at the end.

Jordin sang Broken Wing by Martina
Sanjaya "sang" Something to Talk About by Bonnie Raitt
Chris sang Mayberry by Rascall Flatts
Blake sang When the Stars Go Blue by Tim McGraw
Lakisha sang Jesus Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood

I was pleasantly surprised at how this week went. My overall opinion seems pretty different from those who've posted so far.

I thought the best two of the night were Jordin and Melinda.
The middle two for me were Blake and Chris.
Which leaves Sanjaya, Phil, and Lakisha as my picks for the bottom 3.

As for Chris's comments on his "nasally" singing, it's not a form of singing, but I do believe he did it on purpose because Rascall Flatt's lead singer often sounds that way, IMO.

Sanjaya had a lot of potential with that song, but he didn't power through at the appropriate spots. Because of that, he came across as awful.

Q: Hey, at the beginning of the east coast broadcast, did Ryan intro the show with a statement about Virgina Tech? Interesting that they added a bit about VT for the west coast broadcast. Guess they didn't think to do that before Chris brought it up.

I really enjoyed Jordin and Melinda (for a change) tonight. I've been voting for Jordin like crazy because I really, really don't want her to go home. Especially not before Sanjaya. Unfortunatly, I'm getting through a lot. So that kinda scares me. I thought Phil did a lot better than usual and actually liked his performance. The VT intro was there for the East coast broadcast--it wasn't added later.

What I did, because I don't really like country, was watch the intro for each singer, gave myself permission to FF ;) (I started watching almost an hour in), and watched the judges' comments.

Phil--awful--FF right away
Jordin--loved it--I really love this girl
Sanjaya--awful, awful, awful--FF
LaKisha--agreed that she was shouting the end--FF the very last of it--she's really been disappointing me
Chris--awful, nasally--FF--I can't believe he said he was nasal on purpose
Melinda--I actually liked it, even though it wasn't her best & it was too country for me--I thought she did a good job
Blake--I thought he was pitchy and sounded bad--totally disagreed with the judges--didn't FF because I kept waiting for it to get better and it didn't

Bottom 3: Phil, Sanjaya, Chris, with Chris going home (although I wish Sanjaya would already)

Yep, Ryan did say something about VT at the beginning of the show. I'm in the Midwest and saw the East Coast airing.

Top two tonight for me were Jordin (LOVED HER!!!) and.... Phil?!?! I thought he was great and I was really preparing myself for his butchering of my lover's song (Keith Urban :swoon!!!: ). eta: Chris' "nasal" singing sounded just like the lead singer of Rascal Flatts, in my opinion! I think that he was trying to imitate him and did a good job at it. Now, whether you like the nasally sound or not is your own personal preference. Some of RF's songs are a bit too "through the nose" if you know what I mean!

Didn't like Sanjaya or LaKisha.

To tell ya the truth, I'm wondering if being consistently good every week is going to be damaging for Melinda. Kinda like what happened to Chris Daughtery last year (IMO). If she's consistently good, I have a feeling people are going to stop voting for her because they will assume that she's safe.

Jordin was definitely the best tonight. And for once she didn't do that annoying thing at the end where she makes a dumb serious face and then giggles and makes a dumb silly face. Gah!

Melinda--I've gotten to the point where I just can't stand her at all anymore. And she just sounds the same every week. Her songs are too much the same Boring!

LaKisha--total disappointment, I thought she could handle a big song.

Chris--I thought he did pretty good, but then I think he is nasally most weeks.

Phil--surprisingly good! He should do more stuff like that.

Blake--it was kind of weird, like on the verge of being really good.

Sanjaya--how long is he going to keep this up before quitting? Why doesn't his family or someone step in and say, "Do you know you're a joke? Do you really want to stay on the show and be known forever this way?"

FAVORITE of the week (actually my all time fave this season):
Jordin
I really want her to win the whole show! She's has a lovely voice and is very marketable!

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD:
Phil, Melinda

WORST:
Sanjaya, Chris R., Lakisha, Blake

Who do I think will go home this week?
Chris R. (but the VT shooting comment may save him based on sympathy votes)
I think Lakisha may be in trouble this week because her vocals were really bad for that song.

Who do I want to go home?
Obviously, Sanjaya. Ugh!

Maybe it is because I am a huge Martina McBride fan, but I didn't think Jordin was amazing. I do think, though, that she has come the closest to actually being able to sing a Martina McBride song. Any other idol who has sung one of her songs has completely bombed. Jordin definitely held her own. It is just hard not to compare her to a legend like Martina. I disagree. From Season 3, I thought Diana DeGarmo's version of this song blew away Jordin's, with whom I wasn't nearly as impressed as everyone else seems to be. The big notes didn't have enough resonance and it felt like she was straining for them. I dunno - it didn't do it for me.

Rankings
1. Melinda
2. Phil
3. Jordin
4. Blake
5. Chris
6. LaKisha
7. Sanjaya

Jordin blew everyone away this week to me. I really though LaKisha was going to do a better job, but when she started out and you could hear her breathe at inappropriate times. Here are my rankings this week:
BEST: Jordin
MIDDLE: Phil, Melinda, Blake
BOTTOM: LaKisha, Sanjaya, Chris

Re: Simon's eye roll after Chris's comments.

I think what Simon was reacting to was the fact that he was in the middle of giving Chris criticism and Chris was arguing with Simon back and forth. Simon said something like 'So you intentionally sang that song through your nose?' and instead of answering Simon, Chris switched up and said 'Well, I really want to give a shout to everyone at VT..etc.' I think Simon saw that for what it was. Even if Chris meant what he said, he did it at a time where he was getting raked over the coals by Simon and he it seemed as if he used those comments as an 'out' so that he didn't have to answer Simon's questions to him.

I am sure Simon was not rolling his eyes at the death of 32 people. I think he was just rolling at Chris's questionable timing of those comments.

Sanjaya--how long is he going to keep this up before quitting? Why doesn't his family or someone step in and say, "Do you know you're a joke?
Oh, but he does know. Look at the reason he picked that song.

It's interesting that Sanjaya picked the same hairdo that I normally do for when I either go to the gym or work out in the yard. DH wasn't even in the room when Sanjaya sang, but was within earshot. He said that even from where he was, it sounded bad.

Here are my picks:

Best--Jordin (BTW, that video of her at 14 is awesome! Sounds like she had a voice that matured early.)
Honorable Mentions--Melinda, Phil (in that order). I think Phil redeemed himself last night. You could tell he was in his element.
Meh--Blake, Chris, LaKisha
The "Plug My Ears" award--Sanjaya

If Sanjaya doesn't go home, I think Chris or LaKisha might be in danger.

RE: AOL poll (in white)- Jordin finally grabbed the top spot from Sanjaya finally! As of right now, Chris is in last place. But that poll changes all the time.

I thought something similar when it first happened - I thought Simon was rolling his eyes because he felt like Chris was deflecting the criticism. It was still tacky though.

I want to post my thoughts before I read everyone else's!

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but Phil was so good! I think he was my favorite.

I didn't think Jordin was spectacular. She was good, but I dunno.

Lakisha-eh. And wtf was up with those gold boots??? She looked so pretty and then...GOLD BOOTS. yikes. I really couldn't get past the boots enough to enjoy her performance.

I didn't know the song Melinda sang, but I thought it was really good. I saw a little Tina Turner in her, too. I'm glad Simon told her to turn off the surprised looks.

Chris-I'm so over him. Every song he sings sounds the same. I only liked his performance last night during the chorus.

Blake-I wasn't impressed at all. I don't know that Tim McGraw song and I found myself wishing he had sang something faster like "I Like It, I Love It" or "Something Like That".

Sanjaya-he completely butchered that song. I don't even feel like he's trying. It's such a joke. I'm sure he won't go home tonight, though.

I'm going to guess that Chris goes tonight.

LOL!! I was thinking the same thing. It almost looked like they couldn't anything for her to wear at the last minute and said, "Hey wear these!"

The AI boards for Sanjaya are thinking he's going home. So maybe it's coming soon...???

I havent been in this thread all season.

I have been a Jordin fan since day one. I really like her, she seems to be able to sing any type of music. I also have never been a big Phil fan but as other have said he did his thing last night. I thought he was really good!!!

Very disappointed in Lakisha last night. She could have picked such a better country song that is suited for her voice. Usually when someone does a past idol song they usually dont do very well.

My last comment is Sanjay. Ugh!!! He has got to go. Why? Oh Why? did Randy, Paula and Simon put him in the top 12. I blame them for all this. There were so many better singers in the top 24 that should have made it.

I would hope that he goes tonight.

I am now firmly in the "Melinda-Jordin final 2" camp. I loved LaKisha at the beginning, and I still think she's great, but she's just turned in too many meh performances. She deserves to stay for now, but Jordin has really proved herself over the last few weeks and I want her battling it out with Melinda in the last 2, with Blake #3.

Specific thoughts on last night:

Didn't get to see Phil because our Tivo got screwed up because DH was messing with the electric. Heard it was good. But he still scares me. He'll always be Nosferatu to me.

Jordin: Blew. Me. Away.

Melinda: Does this woman ever not sound amazing? I think she's just the most consistently fantastic performer they've had in any season of Idol. Luuuurve her.

LaKisha: The dress was gorgeous and flattering, and I liked the performance better than the judges did, but it wasn't up to Jordin/Melinda standards. (I loved a comment on TWOP: "Jesus take the eel?")

Chris: "Nasally is a style." ??? Yeah. A bad one. You sucked, and the VTech comment was just totally gratuitous in the middle of a snarky exchange with Simon. "I'm getting dinged for a bad performance, so let me play the VTech sympathy card." I thought it was cheap.

Blake: He is just so much fun. I didn't totally adore the song, but he's always interesting and different. By far my favorite guy this year. In fact, the only guy left that I remotely can stand.

Sanjaya: Kill. Me. Now. He's been bad before, but this was possibly the most excruciating performance to date. Please let him go home. Please. Please. Pleeeeeeeze.

I really don't think that was it at all. I think he knew that AI will cut you off if you talk too long so he wanted to get that comment in as soon as he could. That's just want I think though.

I liked Phil last night, I really did. Surprised me. LaKisha not so much. I think it was Simon who said a season or 2 ago that if you are going to do a song by an AI winner, you darn well better do it GREAT! I just dont think she was anywhere near great at that song. Sunjaya, naturally, was the worst. I am so hopeful that the end is near for him soon.

I predict Sanjaya's got 2-3 weeks left. I bet he still won't be in the bottom 3. Maybe next week.

I think it would have been good if Blake would have sang Tim McGraw's Real Good Man. That would have been cute.

and the VTech comment was just totally gratuitous in the middle of a snarky exchange with Simon. "I'm getting dinged for a bad performance, so let me play the VTech sympathy card." I thought it was cheap.

No way. Chris has gotten criticized before, it's not like this was something new and he needed to deflect. His comment was not inapproriate and I thought it seemed very genuine. He in no way tried to blame it for his performance. If he does have friends there he had every right to mention them. I can't believe he's under fire for saying something sweet about the recent events.

ITA!!! I'm proud of him for saying something while Simon was talking to him and that he felt comfortable doing that. Yes, he wasn't the best last night.

Does anybody know if last night's performances (and judge's comments!) have been posted somewhere yet? I got a new cable system at my house, and forgot to set Idol to record!!! :(
