View Full Version : American Idol Season 6 Volume 2
There is also Gwen's commentary that goes along with the above spoilers:
Supposedly Sanjaya wanted to sing Bathwater and Gwen went to Nigel and told him that she didn't want Sanjaya singing that song.
I was excited for this week because I thought we would get to see Melinda sing something more exciting but she still chose such a dated song.

Thanks for posting that, Southerner. Those are some pretty good choices. I think it would be really cool if Jordin sings that! :)
Funny. I was thinking the exact opposite. I'm not sure about that song for Jordin. Interesting choice. I wonder if she will change it up from the original?

I can totally see Phil singing "Every Breath You Take", I actually think it fits his vocal range very well. Now, if only he would lay off of the serial killer eyes, it would be good. :p

ITA with what Paula said about Melinda. She really does sing "the song" and not just get up and sing the words, know what I mean? I think that's why I like watching her perform, she's just got really good timing, etc., and she just gets up there and does it.
ITA with the PP who said Sanjaya looked like a thing from Fraggle Rock--so true. I think at this point he's just going along for the game/ride and is just completely out there.

I have to say - I think Gina was the best tonight. Great song choice and her voice sounded fantastic.
Can you say Show Manipulation? Because that's what we were seeing with Chris R. having the pimp spot. Blech.
I agree that Gwen did seem professional and nice and I thought she looked really beautiful without her usual "glam" makeup.
Bottom 3: Chris S., Haley, Sanjaya

Didn't he have it the Diana Ross week too? I think they are just going to rotate him & Melinda for that spot.

Maybe the judges have been living under a rock -- remember Blake sang another 311 song and none of them had ever heard it?! Perhaps that was the case tonight -- they hadn't heard "Love Song" (the 311 version) and just thought it was so great. (I personally wish he'd gone with The Cure)
Of course, it *was* great, and as my husband says -- "he's really cashing in on the pantydropping". LOL! :D
And WTF was with Sanjaya's hair???

LaKisha Jones--great voice, as usual, but I'm concerned she's a few decades too late, sort of like Paris last season.
Chris Sligh--good god, where to start? Total disaster. 100% agreement with Gwen, et al's critiques of his inability to KEEP TIME.
Gina Glockson--I thought she redeemed herself tonight. Very pleasantly surprised. I threw a few votes her way.
Sanjaya Malakar--fauxhawk faux pas, awful, yada yada. Please make it stop.
Haley Scarnato--awful--she wrecked one of my favorite songs.
Phil Stacey--perfect song choice--creepy lyrics for a creepy looking guy--he really had the stalker vibe going
Melinda Doolittle--what I said about LaKisha--I'm worried these two have awesome voices but don't seem "current" enough.
Blake Lewis--sorry, ladies, but I think he's overrated and he does nothing for me--his voice is nice and he *is* the best male, but that's not saying much seeing as (most of?) the other males totally blow.
Jordin Sparks--still like her & thought she did well, but I have to say I was a bit let down because I really like her and that song, and I just wasn't feeling it like I thought I would. Still really good, but I expected to be floored.
Chris Richardson--he did sound a teeny bit better than usual, but still just eh.
I loved that Gwen was so honest in her critiques. :)
Bottom 3:
Chris Sligh, Sanjaya Malakar, Haley Scarnato
My faves:
LaKisha Jones, Gina Glockson, Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks

LaKisha Jones - Didn't really like it too much. I really liked her at first but she's dropping.
Chris Sligh - Didn't like it at all. Not a good song choice and it really drew my attention to his lisp.
Gina Glockson - I thought she was really good tonight. The song was perfect for her/
Sanjaya Malakar - um... yeah...
Haley Scarnato - Terrible as usual. I don't think she deserves to be in the top 12.
Phil Stacey--[perfect song choice--creepy lyrics for a creepy looking guy--he really had the stalker vibe going] <-- I completely agree.
Melinds Doolittle - Not my favorite performance, but I still like her a lot.
Blake Lewis - I really like him a lot. His song was just like the 311 version of that song, but I love that song so I loved him.
Jordin Sparks - what the hell was she wearing? It was SO unflattering and really distracting. Not her best performance. Sort of a let down from last week.
Chris Richardson - Not too bad. I thought he did a nice rendition of the song.
Bottom 3:
Chris S., Sanjaya and Haley
My faves:
Gina, Blake, Chris R.
I predict that Haley or Phil will go.
I don't like Phil but I thought he did a good job tonight. He always looks lik he is wearing a lot of make up.
I like Blake & The Cure so I did like it but I would have rather he did a different song like Pictures of You because Lovesong is a bit boring.
This was the first time I thought Chris R. sounded like Justin Timberlake but it was still nasally. It was OK.
Gwen looked very pretty and I liked seeing what she had to say. I think Peter & Lulu did a better job giving them advice that helped with the songs.
ETA - Sanjaya - Horrible song choice. Horrible hair.

"Man rooster" LOL! :D That's pretty cute. Yeah, his hair was unecessarily weird. Why did they do that?! Poor kid, he is already humiliating himself as it is.
Like Blake! He's from my town so of course I'm rooting for him, in addition to that fact I think he adds a nice hipness to the show.
I for one can't stand Melinda and I would cheer if she were sent home this week.

Heeeeheeee! Man Rooster! Oh, regarding hair styles, I am SOOOOO bummed because my local radio station usually interviews Dean Banowitz, the Hollywood Hairguy, that does all the contestants hair. Last week, Dean was told by AI producers that he can NO longer do any radio interviews. Guess they gave him a "Gag Order" and pretty much told him if he wanted to keep the AI job then he would have to stop the interviews. Maybe he revealed too much. But, he would have totally clued us in to why Sanjaya's hair looked like a rooster. I'm thinking that Sanjaya wanted a Mohawk like Gwen used to wear a long time ago but his hair is too long to keep it up high like that for his performance. Or.... maybe Dean is so sick of doing this kids hair that he purposefully made it look like that so nobody would vote for him anymore.
Sanjaya just is the worst one of all seasons. And that's bad because I couldn't stand Chicken Little!

:D TOTALLY agree that Gwen looked LOVELY! She is just stunningly gorgeous! So funny how blunt & upfront she was about her critiques. I just love her! Can't wait to see her perform tonight!
As far as last night goes, I was once again disappointed. It wasn't as great as I was hoping.
Gina was the BEST of the night! Her voice was awesome! The beginning of that song was amazing!
Sanjaya, once again, was HORRIBLE. He just needs to go NOW!
WHAT THE HECK is up with Melinda & Lakisha being able to sing songs that are OLD? Weren't those songs like 40+ years old? UGH. I understand the theme was songs that inspired Gwen, but then why didn't anyone else sing really dated songs? Come on now. They just are showing America that they are NOT contemporary. It's going to hurt them in the long run. I wouldn't be too upset if they didn't get to the finale. They bore me. They are wonderful singers & performers but I can't see myself wanting to buy one of their CD's.
Jordin is usually my favorite. But, I just didn't think that performance was as good as the judges thought. The song just didn't do her voice justice.
Phil picked a great song for his voice. For some reason, I think his creepiness is sexy. :o He did better this week than usual.
Chris S., Chris R., Haley, Blake were just eh IMO.
MY FAVE's of the week: Gina & Phil
MY LEAST FAVE's of the week: Sanjaya, Chris S, Chris R, Haley
Who will get voted off? Probably NOT Sanjaya. :( Although, I will do a happy dance if he does! :p

I totally disagree with Simon. I think Blake is unique but I don't think he is the best male. I think Phil has a much better range than Blake does. I just think Blake is more popular.

The "man rooster" is just beyond words. Although I don't think he qualifies as a man, so in my head, he shall now be renamed "boy rooster". I cringe when he's onstage. It's not just the fact that he's in over his head singing-wise, but he seems so awkward and embarrassed and just...weird. It makes me uncomfortable. But of course, he'll be here next week. *sigh*
When Phil sang the line "I'll be watching you", FH turned to me and opened his eyes wide and buggy and unblinking and said in a creepy voice, "Phil will be watching you with those eyes!" I guess you just had to be there, but I was cracking up. I thought he sounded really good last night.
Chris R., in my opinion, did not sound good at all. That's one of my favorite songs of all times, and his vocals were sub-par. FH said to me (he was chatty last night), "You can sing that song ten time sbetter just lying here in bed." (I was singing along)
I'm so over Chris S. - and his tempo-less-ness last night was so freaking frustrating! Very very irritating, like an unscratchable itch. It annolyed me.
Lakisha sounded good on the belt-out notes but in my opinion, her lower register was bottoming out. I can't believe the judges didn't mention it, because she was going completely flat on those low notes at the beginning.
Melinda, eh, sure, she's a great singer, she does well with her stage presence, but it seems like all her songs sound the same. A bit boring. And her lack of a neck really distracts me (yes, I'm shallow).
I love Jordin but she "was just okay for me last night, dawg."
Blake was good but also a bit boring. I'm glad he didn't beat box, it wouldn't have worked there.
Haley Oh, Haley. Such a beautiful girl, but when she sings, I keep thinking of beauty pageant talent shows. When Simon said there was nothing to remember her by, I couldn't help but wonder if what he really missed were her bouncing boobs from last week. That was the only time he ever paid attention to her.
Gina sounded AWESOME, the best of the night for me. And the band was AMAZING during her performance. We watched it a couple of times. Great!

Funny someone else mentioned Gina and Phil because that's who I voted for as well. I like Blake also, but he didn't wow me as muc tonight as some of the other nights. Jordin is also still one of my favorites, though this week she was only ok to me.
Lakisha and Melinda can sing great, but they are always the same and I am bored with them. I can't see myself buying either of their CD's.

Those songs aren't that old. I remember them from elementary school and I'm 37. Last Dance is from 1978, and Heaven Knows was a hit in early 1979. Both by Donna Summer (who rules!).
But your comments pretty much verified what I commented on last night--I may love their choices and think they sounded awesome, but people who aren't fans of disco aren't going to feel the same way. :(
I missed the show last night. I wanted to see the hair everyone is talking about so I just watched Sanjaya's performance on youtube. OMG!!! What is wrong with him? That hair:eek: My eyes, my poor eyes! I shouldn't have watched.

RE: Sanjaya's hair: Honestly, the first thing I thought - well, after OMG! - was that it looked like someone put him in one of those banana clips from the 80's. Then I saw that they were little ponytails. Then he reminded me of a horse. Next time you see a Budweiser commercial with the Clydesdales - look at their manes (http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/7081/Horse_Picture.jpg). They are done up the SAME way!:p

Oh, speaking of Sanjaya and the theory that young teen girls are enamoured of him--I asked my almost 12yo DD last night what she and her friends think of him (most of them are in choir with DD, btw) and she made a face and said he's dorky and he can't sing. So obviously not all little girls are being taken in by his "charms," such as they are. I was kind of hoping for insight, like if one friend liked him, and why. But no such luck, which I guess is a good thing, because do I really want her having a friend who likes Sanjaya? ;)

I honestly think (as do some of my co-workers) that at this point, Sanjaya is really just mocking the whole thing with his hair and such b/c he knows people will vote for him no matter what. I think its ridiculus and have yet to meet or talk to anyone who DOES like him but he still seems to be here week after week...
Sophia
03-28-2007, 07:46 AM
I don't think anyone likes Sanjaya becuase they think he's a good singer/talented, but I think some like him for the non-singing entertainment he provides--he's so bad he's fun to watch (for them--I find it annoying and painful). I think the reason he's still on is because of the Vote For The Worst type of mentality, even if he wasn't always who the VFTW site was promoting.

I was so excited when I found out Gwen was going to be the star last night, but it fell short for me. They should have all had to sing Gwen or No Doubt songs, IMO.
I used to like Blake, but I got bored quick with the beatboxing. While he sang well last night, he butchered a great song. It was way too slow. Ditto Chris R.
I cannot stand Phil. I don't know what it is about him, but I just don't like him. Neither does DH. Maybe he can sing, I don't know. He's like a dorky, big eared, taller version of Chris Daughtry. I would not be surprised if he went home tonight.
I really like Haley-she's cute and she can actually sing. That was just a bad song for her last night. She was so awesome last week-I like the fast songs on her. She may very well be going home tonight.
I thought Melinda was awesome last night. Loved, loved, loved her hair. Much more flattering than how she usually wears it.
Sanjaya-I also thought it was a banana clip!
Jordin-I wasn't as wowed as the judges. I hated her outfit. That skirt made her hips look really wide. Very unflattering.
That's all I can remember.

LaKisha Jones - I think she is a great singer, and did a good job with the song. However, I don't think she has that star quality about her. I am getting bored with her performances.
Chris Sligh - I didn't think it was HORRIBLE, but it wasn't his best. I think he is in trouble tonight. I also really noticed his lisp last night.
Gina Glockson - I am not a big fan of that particular song, but I think she did a very good job with it.
Sanjaya Malakar - I am sorry. I was so amused. I giggled the entire performance because of his hair. I agree with what a previous poster said... he has become the non-musical entertainment portion of the show. Simon's comment about Sanjaya being in his own universe was classic. ;) You know what? Bet he stays tonight...
Haley Scarnato - She has a nice voice, but needs more practice. I agree with Simon that there are many girls out there who can sing like she does. I think she's really pretty.
Phil Stacey - Not my favorite guy (but then, I don't really like any of them), but I think he did really well with that song.
Melinda Doolittle - She is a great, great vocalist. However, I am so bored with her. All of her performances sound the same to me, and I am tired of her deer in the headlights look. I can't imagine her on a CD cover, nor do I think I would buy her music (then again, I don't normally listen to the particular style of music she excels in). She seems so much older than her age and really doesn't appeal to me.
Blake Lewis - I like him. I think he is a creative and consistent performer. I just don't find him as sexy as some, cuz to me, he looks like a little kid (and I am only a few years older than him).
Jordin Sparks - I love her! However, I did not like this performance. I am surprised that she received such praise. She had trouble with the low parts. I still hope she does well and goes far, though. I also think she is pretty.
Chris Richardson - He's another cute kid (great smile).... who looks like a little boy to me. Ha! I really dislike the JT style of music, so his charms are lost on me. Another one who consistently bores me.

I knew Blake was going to do that version of 'Love Song'--it's a 311 cover of the original Cure song. So he didn't actually slow it down, he was just covering the cover. I'm not a fan of that version at all.
Gina did an amazing job. I thought Jordin did well but not sure it was the right No Doubt song for her.
ITA. I'm ready for her to go home! I've started fast-forwarding through her performances. It's just boring to me. I think part of it is her personality. I can't stand that deer in the headlights, "OMG, you really like me?!" thing. Did anyone notice Ryan comment on it last night? When he told her she needs to stop being surprised? Someone on Best Week Ever made a great comment about it, that she's been a professional singer, has an agent & a stylist--time to drop the act that she can't believe she's any good.

I admit, unless I hear something like "Oh, you HAVE to see this performance" I fast forward through most of them. I listen to what the guest celeb has to say, I listen to the beginning and I FF to the end and judges comments.

Does anyone know if there is a place to watch the full performances online? I thought that Ryan Seacrest said you could do it online, but I'm not 100%. I am so upset that I missed it that I'd like to watch them....thanks!
You can pay for them on the official site.
You can view lesser quality video and download lesser quality mp3s on rickey.org (http://www.rickey.org/?cat=44), but it's free. :)

I'm also a little bored with Melinda. She's a wonderful singer, but she doesn't need to be the American Idol to do well on her own at this point. Anyway, I like her, but I don't feel gushy or anything when I watch her.
Last night I really liked Gina. I also thought Blake and Jordin were good. I must be old because I didn't realize Blake was covering a 311 cover. I only know the Cure version from my high school days. :o I do think Blake would make a great American Idol. They haven't had anyone like him yet. Besides, he's from my town. :)
Prediction: Chris S. is going home and Sanjaya will be around to make us laugh and cringe another week.

I don't think it was intentional. I think he forgot to change "boys" to girls" or whatever and realized he screwed up a little too late. It was a really stupid song for him to pick.
Although I do think he doesn't care to try hard anymore which is sort of lame. I agreed with Randy and Paula when they said "come on", put it out there. He's a good singer, but he just seems to be screwing around out there. I think maybe he just realizes he is SO far out of his league and he's too immature to know what to do about it.

See, when I read the spoiler that Blake was singing Love Song, I thought they meant the Tesla song. I also didn't know that 311 did a cover of it. While watching it last night, DD said that the song needed to be picked up a little bit (as in tempo). I had to explain to her about The Cure and told her that they were what she'd consider an "emo" band from back in the day...uh...my day.

We have Comcast and I got up this morning to watch the show on our DVR. Well, it only taped the first 12 minutes of the show. Wondering why? DH & I were asking ourselves the exact same question. Plus he looked kinda dumb in his red sweatshirt alongside Gwen and her dancers' matching outfits. Gwen was great though and that song is super-catchy.
As for the results - meh. I'm not surprised. Chris has been on a downward slide recently. His performances haven't been up to par.

It's too bad that Chris S. has one bad week and *poof* he's gone. This isn't official or anything, but according to Dial Idol, Sanjaya isn't anywhere near the bottom of the pack. According to them, last week he came in #4 and got more votes than the far more talented Jordin and Blake. He was the #1 vote-getter in Nevada, for goodness sakes! I can't believe there's a Fox conspiracy when an independent site is predicting those kinds of results for Sanjaya consistently.
It sucks... but I guess some people are determined to keep him around.
Sophia

I think someone needs to organize a "Kick Sanjaya Off" website much like VFTW. They should tell everyone to vote for a particular person each week instead of spreading out everyone's votes.
But then the top 2 would be the WFTW person (Sanjaya) and the anti-Sanjaya person of the week. Everyone else would be at risk. It wouldn't help anything, and it would add to the vote-manipulation problem.
The problem is the Top 24 doesn't consist of the absolute best singers. Every season someone makes farther than they should, kicking off someone better. The producers want an interesting show so they pick singers & personalities not just singers. Until that changes, there will always be a Sanjaya or a John Stevens (who I liked).
Sophia
03-29-2007, 05:13 PM
Another problem is the show is based on call in and text votes from the general public. There's no accounting for the taste or motivation that causes a person to vote for one contestant and not another. Even if "experts" in the music industry were choosing the winner, people would be unhappy with the results.

There's no accounting for the taste or motivation that causes a person to vote for one contestant and not another.
Yep, there are actually people voting for Sanjaya because they think he's good. Scary.

I just watched the Fox Reality Channel's 'kicked off contestant show' ( I think the real title is American Idol Extra or something like that.) Anyhow, it's on every Thursday and exclusively features the kicked off contestant and their family. Chris Sligh addressed the 'You owe me 50 bucks," comment to Phil. He and Phil are suitemates (with Chris R. and Blake as well.) At any rate, Chris Sligh mentioned to Phil at around 2 in the afternoon that he felt he was going to be going home. Phil was saying 'no you aren't, it's not you.' So, Chris S. and Phil made a bet ( of 50 bucks) that Chris would not be going home. Since Chris S. WAS the one booted off, Phil owes Chris 50 bucks. :)
What I find sad about finding out the 'suitemate' arrangement is that it's apparent that Sanjaya must be all by himself. :( I think that it must be very difficult for him. He's on his own, in a strange city, with most of America making fun of him week after week. It's a little heartbreaking to tell you the truth.

Since Sanjaya is under 18, he's probably staying with one of his parents, which is why he doesn't have a suitemate. I doubt he's that much "on his own".

I am just repeating what I read in the LA Times about his living situation. I believe he tried out (last summer) as a 17 year old, but I am not sure he's still 17. At any rate, the fact that he is alone was not mine, but the LA Times. I apolgize for not crediting them.

Interesting article about Sanjaya and AI:
Could Sanjaya mania be "Idol's" undoing?
By Chris Rovzar
New York Daily News
The Federal Way teen says he'll win, but Simon Cowell says if that happens, he'll quit. Even Paula Abdul, usually the kindest judge, says the buzz surrounding this unlikely contender has "run amok."
It started with the Web site votefortheworst.com, which encourages voters to keep 17-year-old Sanjaya on the Fox show because his performances — marked by a weak singing voice that often veers off-key and flowing hair that has been arranged in increasingly bizarre styles — are just so bad.
Here's the rest of the article: Seattle Times Sanjaya article (http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=idol30&date=20070330&query=sanjaya)
I think Sanjaya is still 17.
In a radio interview between Ryan Seacrest & Nigel, the producer, Nigel said that Sanjaya & his Mom came up to him before the show and asked if he should go ahead with the mohawk so she is around him.

News – Chris S's hometown newspaper – about his departure from Idol. He addresses the "You owe me $50" comment among other things. It's quite informational and touches on a lot of different topics.

I visit that site from time to time just to see what they're talking about. Apparently, Dave challenged Chris S. to say hey to him or shout out VFTW. If he did that Dave and VFTW would never say anything bad about him and if Sanjaya left, they would get everyone to vote for him.
I'm glad Chris is gone then. That's sleazy. Did anyone read this Yahoo article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070330/ap_en_tv/american_idol_sligh) where Chris said he considered quitting before getting voted off? Yeah, right.

I'm really surprised that Chris admitted he just stuck around to get on the tour for the cash. I'm not surprised he did it, just that he actually admitted it. Strange.

I think that the people voting for Sanjaya may just hate American Idol... think about it - if someone like Sanjaya wins, then the show is dead. Over.
Because no longer would the winner be any good. I mean, even though I knew Taylor Hicks way back when, I don't think he should have won last year. He was okay (better than Sanjaya), but I almost think voters are just trying to spite the show now - or Simon, lol.
It's kind of funny actually.
I don't think people really like Sanjaya - or maybe they just identify with him since he can't really sing and they think, well if he can win, they can win.

After reading Chris's 'media' interview (posted on the FORT website) I don't fault him for the Bob Jones choice. He says that he came from a very very conservative Christian background and his parents didn't let him listen to pop music, watch tv, etc. When he was of college age, his parents gave him 2 choices for college, BJU, or another school even ~more~ conservative (according to Chris.) Chris says he didn't have the money to put himself through college so he chose what he thought (in his words) was the 'less crazy' school and went to BJU. He said that once he enrolled there, he was trying to figure out how to leave so possibly he orchestrated his own 'expulsion.'
As for wanting to leave the show before he was voted off, my first thought was 'yeah right.' But if you read his interview you will learn that he was getting death threats pretty heavily after he made that 'teletubbies' comment to Simon. He was literally losing sleep for weeks because people were honestly going on his blog (where he had left the comment function open to all) and saying things like 'I am going to find you and kill you for being so arrogant to Simon.' etc. If that were happening to me, I would definitely check in to leaving the show! Now I think we know why Chris seemed so 'boring' the last few weeks. He was afraid his humor would get him in more trouble!
I feel badly for Chris because I think he would have gone farther if he would have been his 'old self.' I don't think I would buy any of his future work, but I do wish him well.

Nylons,
Oh my gosh that's horrible! I really liked Chris too - his Kiss from a Rose was amazing! I haven't like Katherine McPhee until she publicly dissed him on the Today show when she heard that amazing audition. Personally, I think K McPhee is a spoiled, entitled, snotty, stuck up bitch. I couldn't believe she said that about him. Whew, that felt good.

That he was doing what the VFTW web guy asked him to do, and if he did he was told he'd get VFTW votes (after Sanjaya got booted). Unless I read that incorrectly, which wouldn't be a surprise. :) I don't know, just seems kind of like partnering with the "enemy".

The thing that bothered me was that she never even commented on his voice - which was off da chain in that song - she just zeroed in on how he looked. I guess it must piss her off that she got beat by Taylor Hicks - she likely projected onto Chris.
I guess you can say that she was being honest. Honestly SHALLOW and petty.

With each passing week, I find myself liking Sanjaya more. Not because he can sing (because he's clearly nowhere near up to par with the rest), but because he's a kid who's working hard each week to put on a performance, and he never ceases to come up with something new.
Now, I won't vote for him, but I like watching him.
On a sidenote, Simon's response to his performance ("Let's try a different tactic...GREAT!") was too funny!

I think Phil & Haley will be in the bottom two. Hopefully she will go but I'm more concerned it will be him. Bummer. I want her gone.
I agree with everyone else, I'm getting annoyed with Melinda. She has this "please don't flog me" look every week. She can be humble but still know how good she is.
Lakisha really lost me that week she sang Diamonds are Forever and she hasn't done anything to recover yet. I'm disappointed!
I don't think Phil sounded as bad as they said but I can't look at him when he sings.
Sanjaya...I was pretty disappointed. I thought this would be a great opportunity for him to show that he actually can sing. It seems like these old songs would be perfect for him. But he picked some song that came off totally cheesy, especially with that slicked back hair. I've been feeling sorry for him because he's so young but he lost my sympathy this week. He's asking for whatever he gets.
Haley = ick. I think each week her performance is off Broadway at best. I thought it was interesting that she looked annoyed when Simon said "you have great legs". It's like, come on sista, we know why you dressed that way. The other week she loved how people noticed her bouncies.
I thought this was a good week for Chris. I don't remember much about his performance and that worries me. He seems like he's one of those who just manages to fly under the radar but that will catch up with him.
Blake was good as well. It was nice to hear him just sing.
Gina sounded really nice but I didn't like her outfit. I thought it really distracted from her song, which was lovely. I would have liked to see her look the part a little more. A nice dress or something.
Jordin - I actually had to look her up on the AI website. I forgot about her! I do like her though.

LOL! I noticed the eye-roll, too; interesting considering the legs comment came right on the heels of her telling RS how much it means to her when Simon has a compliment to give, but I don't think she was banking on the "physical attributes" compliment...too bad! Her singing was meh at best...

I found Gina's tongue ring distracting. did not go with the genre.
In this week's People, Gina said that the producers initally made her take it off because they said it would hurt her chances with voters in the mid-West. She put it back on in recently in defiance to the producers' suggestions. I do think she's trying to be careful about flashing it (I noticed that the cameras would pan away if her ring starts peeking through or she would sort have a half closed half open smile - nothing too wide to flash it to the cameras).
I don't know too much about tongue rings but won't it affect your singing (especially enunciation)?

Yeah..at first I thought "Well, how much damage can one website (and Howard Stern) do?". But watching him (Sanjaya)remain on the show week and after week and not even land in the bottom two or three has amply proven that this could turn out to be quite a disaster for American Idol. And I distinctly remember reading somewhere that Pop Idol (the British show that inspired AI) was cancelled for almost the same reasons; voting issues. And Simon Cowell himself pulled the plug on that one, so who is to say he won't if Sanjaya wins. I am pretty sure he owns the rights to AI, doesn't he?

DBF came home yesterday saying one guy at work hates Sanjaya so another one of his co-workers voted for Sanjaya 300 times last week just because. People like that bother me.
I heard on ET the other day that the AI producers said they werent worried about Howard Stern and vote for the worst, they said with 30 million votes it couldnt be affected that much. I beg to differ
I don't think HS & VFTW have as much effect as everyone thinks.

And Simon Cowell himself pulled the plug on that one, so who is to say he won't if Sanjaya wins. I am pretty sure he owns the rights to AI, doesn't he?
I thought that the creator, Simon Fuller owns the show, not Simon Cowell.

I think if Macy Gray and Lionel Richie had a love child, it would look like Melinda.

Bob Marley is rolling in his grave after hearing that awful rendition of "One Love." Bad choice for these singers...awful commercial.

WTF is Gina wearing?
Once again, the wrong person is going home.

You know what annoyed me about last night? Tony Bennett gave them advice and some of them (Haley and Lakisha) disregarded it! If Tony Bennett tells you to do something, then do it!

I know...her boobs were almost on her knees and the whole outfit just screamed NO!

Quick question--I'm sure this is in one of the threads, but I'll never find it. Who sings the song that they are now using while they show the montage of the person voted off? Is it called I'm Going Home, or something like that? Who sings it?
Thanks a lot! :)

It's Chris Daughtry! :) And I think it's just called "Home."
Who went home tonight? I didn't watch. Actually, I haven't even watched the show from last night yet! Tomorrow I'm off work, so I'll catch up then.

Was it just me of did Michael Buble seem way off tonight? Maybe his music was off, but he just seemed awkward and kept messing him. I have seem him on other shows and he was way better before. Honestly he seemed drunk to me  ;)

I can't believe Gina left. In the past there has always been 1 or 2 people who stayed longer or left ealrier than they should have, but I really think this year is just a joke. I don't even know why I watch. I couldn't handle this show without DVR to FF :p

Makes me think he was drunk even more. Why did he keep turning and smiling?
