I am in the process of transitioning our 3 yr old dd to her big girl room. We are expecting #2 in October and would like to get her used to sleeping in her new room. She says now that the small room is hers and the baby can't have it. So, I would like to get started as soon as I can to get her to like her new room.

If #2 is a girl. We will put both of them in the same room eventually.

My question is-Would you prefer to sleep in a trundle or share a full size bed? I am getting different advice from everyone. One person tells me i dont know if i would want to sleep on the floor when older (lets say 16 yr old). another says i dont know if I would want to be stuck next to my sister till im 16 etc....

Or, should i just do 2 twin size beds, that way they will have their own space.

This was a good 20 years ago, but my parents got me a new bed for my 5th or so birthday and it was a daybed with a trundle underneath. It could be left on the floor, but also lifted up to be level with my day bed. I'm assuming trundle beds are still made the same way, so in theory the trundle could be moved and set up apart from the other bed.

I'd most definitely say two twin beds. Or what about bunk beds?

My sister's two eldest daughters shared a room for a little over a year and had bunk beds. When they moved into a bigger house and gave them each their own room, they were able to take the bunk beds apart and use them as separate twin beds.

I have a trundle at my parents house (still) and the bed underneath can come out, up, and/or be separated entirely if you want. I used to change my room around a lot in HS and at one point, had 2 twins, one on each side of the room (for when my FBF slept over, which was frequent). Now, when DH and I are there, we pull out the bottom bed, and lift it up. When DH is not there, I pull out the bottom bed and my niece/sister/friend sleeps on it.

When I was growing up, I had a trundle bed at my Dad's house and it was very comfy. However, I would NOT have wanted to be pulling that thing in and out and popping it up and down every day. If I needed my girls to share a room, I'd get two twin beds, without question. My sister and I shared a full for several years - it was he!! :p

eta: I'm still considering a trundle for one of my DD's rooms for guests. Just wanted to be clear that I think they are a nice option, but more for overflow - not every day use.

I'd get 2 beds without a question too. My sister and I had bunk beds growing up and loved them.

ITA with mamax2.

I just visited a friend who has two girls, 3 and 5. They share a room and sleep on a trundle bed. The trundle part was out while I was there (I think that's the way it always is) and I thought it looked messy and odd.

Twin beds would look so much nicer.

I would go with either twin beds or bunk beds without a dought.

Sharing a bed at 16 sounds like it would trouble IMO.

To me, it would depend on how long they would be sharing. It it was just for a few years, I would buy a double. As younger kids, they wouldn't mind sharing a bed so much, and a double is likelier to make an older child happier when she is no longer sharing, so it seems like a smarter purchase in the long run. If, however, they will be sharing a room until they are tweens or beyond, I would go with 2 twins as with older kids, they will definitely each want their own beds and whiel bunk beds are a good option as well, that might begin to feel juvenile to the kids when they get older.
