Outings - Our first was to the pedi's office and that night we went to Lowe's and Target. We've gone on a couple of walks and one was a trip to the grocery store. Tomorrow we're visiting my office and my grandparents who couldn't make it to the hospital so that should be fun :D

Thanks for the new thread and all your hard work. Bitter sweet to move over to the infant/baby group. Call me nuts but I really miss being pregnant.

Our nights have been pretty rough over here, my DD has got her nights/days confused and is wide awake from 3:00-6:00. Then when I finally get her to sleep my DS wakes up. I am walking around like night of the living dead over here ... YIKES. Just switched her to the Good Start Soy and hope it works better then the Similac Isomil. She has been having some major poopin issues.

Got my DD annoucements/thank you cards yesterday and wanted to share. Love this company I found called tinyprints.com

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k234/stars918/annoucement.jpg

Loving these longer days and this weather. It is suppose to be 70 here tomorrow :)

Hope you Mommies are doing great.

Stars- I am loving this time change as well. Sorry for the lack of sleep. DS has a non-stop crying period from about 7-11 every night. All he wants to do is eat, but then he eats too much and crys b/c his tummy is full. It's frusterating~ Oh and I love the announcements!!!

T/M- Thanks for the new thread!!!

Boiler- Glad to hear you are getting around a little better..Wishing you a speedy recovery!

i'm right there w/ ya stars, i was the same way after having landon! i really do enjoy pgcy!

oreded reece's announcements from inababycarriage.com yesterday....can't wait to get them.

stars: You announcements are beautiful!!!

Everything's going well over here. We had our first outing the three of us by ourselves (me, landon and reece) and it went REALLY well, Landon was an angel, I was in shock. We even met a friend for lunch. Also hit target and BRU. Now we're home and Landon is visiting my mom and dad and Reece and I are contemplating a nap. ;) Loving the time change and the weather...it's 80degrees here today!

Stars- I agree, I too miss being pregnant, but at the same time, I will be filling my prescription for birth control because I am not ready to get pregnant just yet!

Ranchers- Congrats on your first outing with the three of you. I am glad Landon was such an angel!

Carrie- I am glad you are able to get around, but sorry it is a slow process.

Threadmistress- The thread looks great! Thanks for all your hard work. I have one change to make to our ID- Zoey's middle name is spelled with an e, Anne. Sorry to be picky, but I really like the e!

Candice- I was having a problem with Zoey eating too much too. But instead of being fussy, she was projectile spitting up. Not fun either, but easier than 3 hours of crying... I started feeding her on just one side (3-4 ounces) and then give her a pacifier to satiate her sucking needs. It seems to be working pretty well. She has only had 1 or 2 big spit ups since then.

Oops, baby is crying in her swing... Later girls!

I'm enjoying having my body back and not really missing being pregnant. Sometimes I feel like I'm still pregnant carrying the little guy around in the pouch.

Stars-Nice announcement!
Boilermaker-I hope it's getting easier to move around. It's gotta be hard with a newborn demanding your attention.
Bombera-I've mostly been feeding on one side and only offering the 2nd side if he's still showing feeding cues after some distraction.

Things are going pretty well here. I had a frustrating trip to Target yesterday with Samuel screaming like crazy at the checkout and everybody looking at me, asking questions and trying to help out. It's so hard to go out and not have it interfere with feeding even with some NIP. Good going Ranchers on a successful trip out with TWO!

You are all welcome for the new thread. Thanks for the kind words ladies.

stars ~ The announcement looks wonderful! We just got ours back and need to get them ready to mail out. One I wanted to use wouldn't print right (it kept cutting stuff off close to the edge) so we just went with one design (I was going to mix them up and have two but that didn't work out). I hope the switch to Good Start soy is a smooth one. A had issues with poop as well and finally had to give him a couple of doses of Kayro in the formula to help things out.

stars, ranchers,& bombera ~ I miss being pregnant as well. I missed it after Sarah's arrival as well. I loved feeling them move around inside. It was like our special time together and no one else could feel or hold them then. They were all mine. ;)

ranchers ~ Yay for the good outing!

bombera ~ Sorry about that. I changed it in the list.

Update ~ I think I'm finally over the flu but now S isn't feeling well. She's fine except for when she drinks milk. So right now no milk is being drank in our house because I'm sick and tired of cleaning that up once it comes back up. She has no fever and doesn't throw anything else back up.

A has some spitting up/vomitting as well. It occurs after each time he eats. Everything I have is now covered in formula stains due to his spitting up/vomitting. I wash sheets Sunday night and as soon as I got them back on the bed they had formula on them again. I have a feeling that we may have to go with the expensive formula but I hope not.

Anyone else get AF back yet? I got it last week and it was just as much fun as when I got it back with S. It was so heavy that it wasn't even funny. I had to be near a bathroom every hour or there was a huge mess. So not only was I sick last week (to the point where I just wanted to stay in bed and sleep) I also had to deal with getting up every hour. I hope next time it isn't as heavy or we may be taking about what to do next.

I don't really care for the time change. While I like it being lighter longer in the evening it plays with DD's bedtime and not wanting to go to sleep. I also don't really care for it being so early this year. I also heard that it's going to be longer into November when we fall back. That's not fun since we have animals that need to be taken care of in the morning and evening both. I just wish we would pick a time and stick with it all year.

Ughh...After such a good day, it's been one hell of an evening! It seemed like all hell broke loose right after dinner, Landon started running around wild, like he had just had a gallon of kool-aid for dinner or something...Reece was fussing, and dh was a grump, he's "tired" um, me too buddy! Whatever! Then, we get Landon bathed, and normally dh takes Reece while I get Landon to bed, but Reece was still fussy, and wanted to be attached to the boob off and on all evening. I think it was gas, not sure, I gave him some mylicon and it did seem to help a little. Anyhow...Landon was a bear to get down, and Reece JUST fell asleep after being on the boob for EVER it seemed. Maybe it's a two week growth spurt, maybe it's something I ate...I'm not sure, but I pray it doesn't carry into the night! Sorry for the vent! ;)

usaf: I'm glad you are feeling better, but sorry S is dealing with it now, that's no fun! Hope she's feeling better very soon.

af: Good lord, not yet! But then again, I am only two weeks PP. With Landon, I got it back at seven weeks PP. I was shocked and thought I was hemeraging (sp?) or something, I just assumed since I was nursing exclusively I wouldn't get af back until I stopped, wrong! I wouldn't be surprised if I get it back around the same time again. I really don't mind though, that way I can keep track of my cycles since that's probably the only BC we'll be using that and condoms. ;) Which was what we were doing when I got pg w/ Reece! Anyhow...mine was extrememly heavy that first time too...Hopefully you'll have an easier one next month, usaf.

projectile spitting up: We've got it over here. He actually didn't do it at all today, he spit up once or twice, just not projectile, but yesterday was a MESS! I took him into the ped. yesterday morning, and he checked him out and said that he would put him on Prevacid if he started getting fussy and acting uncomfortable, but for now, he's gaining (my little man is up 1.4 lbs. from his birth weight of 7 lbs.!) That is such a good feeling! Anyway...so we'll just monitor it and see, I'm hoping his fussiness tonight isn't the start of him being uncomfortable from the acid reflux!

Ok...I really need to hop into bed myself, the way this evening went, there's no telling what tonight will bring! ;)

Mikey was baptised this weekend and it went great.

We are finally all getting over being sick, and not coughing has made it so my tear and rubbed spots aren't pulling and hurting anymore. I have had two days of feeling good.

I am sore today, we walked to get lunch (ten block round trip) and then we walked around the mall yesterday. I hadn't walked further than from the car to the back of church or to get diapers at BRU. We had Mikey in the sling the whole time at the mall and he loved it though. He either slept or nursed the whole time. That is pretty hard on the back.

ranchers ~ Thanks. Sorry about your rough night. Sounds about like mine. See below for everything that went on. I got it back with S at between 4 and 5 wks. I just stopped PP bleeding and then it came back. It's still here and just as heavy as it was with her.

They decided that last night would be the night to go out to eat for all their work on the plannning committee last year. That's nice since I found out yesterday at lunch. A wanted to eat non-stop last night, S wanted to sit on my lap and rock which meant no getting up to get a drink, go to the bathroom or anything else. He was gone for 4 hours and I was about to pull my hair out by the time he got home.

Then I was up to between 3 and 4 this morning with both kids. A wouldn't go to sleep. I tried everything I could think of to get him to go to sleep.

usaf: Oh, you poor thing! Hopefully both of your babes are napping at the same time for you today, so you can get some rest and some alone time!

After the horrid evening, we had a good night. Reece slept from about 9:45 until 3 o'clock this morning, nursed, and went back down until 6. It was beautiful! I felt so refreshed even at the 3 a.m. feeding when he woke up. I haven't had a good stretch of sleep like that in a loooong time, even before he was born! ;)

Sleep sounds great! We are in a growth spurt. He is starting to outgrow some 0-3 stuff. I forgot the first growth spurt and hoe they outgroe stuff overnight. Atleast most people gave us 3-6 month stuff!

Once I finally got Mikey down for a long stretch Ben wanted to be up.

Finally! I have been wanting to update but really wanted to read through th thread first. It is so much fun seeing how everyone is doing and hearing about other babies going through the same things E&J are.

We are doing well here. I won't lie, these two girls are wearing me down but I just love them to pieces. My mom has been here on and off and that has been a godsend. After a couple of days on my own, I am really looking forward to my MIL getting here today.

sleepingThey are sleeping in three hour stretches at night but sometimes will go to four. Of course sometimes they wake up every two too! There were times when I just had to walk away and compose myself or go wake my husband up and give him a baby. :D This week though, I have a new and refreshed attitude towards the night time thing. We have started consistently putting the girls down "for the night" by ten and at that point keeping the nursery dark and sitting in there in the dark with them for as long as it takes for them to be in deep sleep. I am also waiting to fall asleep until they are fully asleep and nursing them laying down/co-sleeping when necessary for my sanity. I am not getting any more sleep overall but I feel better about it (i.e.: I do not dread the nights anymore) and feel like I am sleeping better when I do sleep.

outings: Well we took out first non-doctor trip up to my former job on Monday. It went okay. I couldn't get the stroller undone and had to ask a passerby for help. Then it wouldn't push... my husband had put the wheels on backwards. :eek: I called into the building and about five people came rushing out. they whisked the girls inside and helped me get the stroller back in the trunk. Hopefully it will go better next time!

Yeah for a new thread. I don't think I could have caught up with the other one :) Thank you all for your kind thoughts on my progress. It is getting much better, quicker than I had thought.

usaf, thanks a bunch for getting us all up and running! You do so much for our group and it is greatly appreciated!!! Let me know what kind of updates we will be doing from now on and I'll start pitching in more. Sorry to hear you are dealing with throw-up from both children. Not fun at all. I hope it stops soon!

stars, those are beautiful announcements. I need to start thinking about pictures for mine. I'm sorry you aren't getting any sleep. I hope it gets better sooner..

candace, your family pics are gorgeous!!! Sorry to hear Cole is having a "witching hour" every night. Poor little guy.

danea, I'm impressed you are out and about already. I'm too nervous to take her out around here..there is still a lot of flu and cold viruses going around.

rancherswife, you'll have to post your announcements when they come in. I love th ones from inababycarriage. Yeah for getting out of the house. I can't wait for consistant warm weather here.

aloha, I'm with you. I'm ready to have my body back. I don't think i would take to kindly to people offering to help me in public though.

bombera, I'm doing the same type of feeding with Payton. She just gets too much in her tummy otherwise. But I'll take it over the crying. I like the "e" in Anne too :)

kat, yeah for having Mikey baptized. I kind of need to join a church here in order to do that :eek:. I'm glad you are feeling better so that you can get healed up!

isobel, I had to laugh about the stroller. I hope you got it fixed! But how nice of people to help you out. I'm glad to hear your positive outlook. I cannot imagine doing this with 2 little ones!!!

Things are actually going well here considering. I just love being a mom! I swear I could spend hour upon hour just looking at her. It is hard to get anything done though because I don't want to put her down :) She's had 2 ped visits and is healthy as can be. She back up over her birth weight...up to 9 lbs, 13 oz. So my milk is doing her good. I'm scared to post about her sleep because I am afraid to jinx myself. But so far, I get a 5 hour stretch followed by a 3 hour one, so I am not complaining. I can only hope it continues.

isobel- Good to hear from you! I can't even imagine life w/ twins, double the blessings, but double the lack of sleep as well. Too funny about the stroller, I've done similar things. I assume b/c I watch my husband put things together that I can do it...I've learned he physically has to show me how to do something or I'll mess it up!

Kim- What is the deal with these never ending feeding sessions, I sware Cole has the appetite of a teenage boy. He has gotten so fat he actually has a double chin =O

Michelle- Glad to hear things are going well w/ Miss Zoey and she is still feeding so well! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only momma who's out and about w/ an infant. I figure Cole's gotta learn sometime that Mommy is always on the go!

Carrie- Miss Payton is so adorable. I love the one of her sleeping so peacefully on her tummy. Does she love tummy time? Cole absolutley loves to be on his stomach. I agree w/ you 100% I could spend hours just looking at him, he always makes new faces and if I look away I might miss one =)

USA- Sorry to hear about your rough night, there are nights when I am calling DH every 10 minutes yelling where are you? I need to pee!!!! He thinks I'm crazy, but I think it's just a mom thing!

Danea- I want to see pics of Hailey's quilt!

More SO's later I have a crying baby to feed....AGAIN!!!

princess:lol, i was just telling my mom tonight that i'm pretty much feeding the little man whenver he's awake, otherwise, he's sleeping. landon was the same way, so i'm sure i've got another little chub in the making. i love when they get the rolls around their wrists and ankles to where it looks like they have rubber bands around them. it's the best! however, the chub does NOT last long, as soon as they are moving, it's gone, it seems like over night....very sad! :(

We just transferred Ben's double chin to Mikey.

I think Mikey has his Mommy's allergies to. We got past the colds and then got nice weather so I have been opening windows. We are all stuffed up now. Thankfully Ben only cares when the kleenex comes along.

Mikey actually slept part of the night in the pack and play.

It sounds like everyone is doing great with just a few minor colds, flu and allergies, but all in all we are blessed bunch!

USAFwife- so sorry about Sara's flu. I am not looking forward to those days. My cousins DD had it so bad that she was in the hospital for dehydration and my cousin also had an 18 month old and just had another one! She was sure dd's hospital stay would put her in labor, but fortunately the baby waited one more week! I can't even imagine!

Kat- Congrats on the baptism. We are planning on having Zoey baptized soon, but my sister has the gown that we were all baptized in so I need her to send it to me. Are you cosleeping usually? How is that going? Zoey sleeps with us sometimes if I can't get to sleep after her middle of the night feeding, but I she doesn't seem to do better with us than she does in her cradle. I end up having to have her sleep ON me, and that just makes me too nervous to sleep...

Candice and Danea- I am going to email you both about a play date! We need to get together soon and take some pics of these gorgeous Dallas babies!

Carrie- I am glad your recovery is going well. Keep up the good work! Payton is adorable- what a sweet face!

Ranchers- Lets hear it for the double chins! Zoey is a great little eater and I am anticipating her being well over nine pounds at her two month appt, maybe even 10 lbs! She has now outgrown her newborn diapers. Danea, want some diapers?

Isobel- I am glad to hear you are feeling better about your sleepless nights. I am sure it doesn't seem like much consolation now, but this won't last forever. I am sure your girls are growing like weeds and will start sleeping longer stretches before you know it. Too funny about the stroller! My dh put my glider on the base back wards when he first put it together so when I went to sit in it the first time (when I was 8 months preggo) I leaned back to rock it and I fell straight back! I was like a turtle, stuck there on my back, totally unable to get up! Fortunately DH was right there and helped me up! I ended up fixing the chair the next day... He really does try but sometimes I just have to do it myself! He is great at construction stuff, but mechanically inclined he is not- that is my job!

Yesterday Zoey and I went on our play date with her friend Kate (July baby). We went to Granbury, TX and had some really yummy NY style pizza. I know, crazy place to get NY style pizza, but the place is owned by New Yorkers- the one guy had such a thick accent I swear he must have just moved here! Too funny- Granbury is a kind of out of the way place, about 40 minutes from Ft. Worth, but it is a cute little town. We window shopped and then took a nice walk down this hike/bike trail that runs through town. It was fun and something different. By the time we got home Zoey was exhausted and although DH tried to comfort her, but she just wanted to nurse. Needless to say, dinner was pretty late last night! Although with all the activities of the day, she did sleep for a 6-hour stretch. I love that!

We are going to a wedding in Houston on April 1st and I am panicking a bit because I can't fit into anything! I still have 19 pounds to lose and there is no way I can lose it in time. I figure if I lose 9 of them by then I should be able to fit into something because I know 5 of this weight has to be my huge BB's so that would put me at 5 pounds over and I know I have some stuff I can wear, so this morning I busted out the Tae Bo video and Billy Blanks and I worked out! It felt good to sweat. So, send weight loss vibes my way so I don't have to buy anything new for the wedding...

Hi girls, great to catch up on how everyone is doing. I am so jealous of your babies that are sleeping 5-6 hours, please send some of that sleep carma over here. Emma can sleep like that during the day, but watch out when night rolls around.

We are back on Isomil, the Good Start was not a "good start" ha! She was worse on that then she is on the Similac. She has her one month appt. tomorrow so I will discuss what to do with her doctor. He is so anti-formula and really makes me feel like such a BF failure, would love to slap him in the head and make him realize just how hard I tried.

A really good friend of mine is coming to visit for the weekend and leaving her kids at home with her husband. We are going to go out tomorrow night for drinks & dinner, I'm so looking forward to it. I need a night out!

bombera77 Good for you starting to work out. I am still sore from my C/S and hope that after my 6 week PP visit I'll feel better to get back into it. This "gut" I have acquired is really killing me.

Daniel's Kitty LOVE the double/triple chins. DD is really chunking out over here also.

boilermaker Good lord is she a sweetheart. LOVE those pics you posted.

isobel So glad to read that you are hanging in there. I have three friends with twins and know how hard it is. Don't forget about yourself and try and take some "me" time.

rancherswife How great that you finally got a great night sleep, it really does rejuvenate.

usafwife Bummer on AF and how bad it was/is for you. I'm actually still bleeding from PP and I will be 5 weeks tomorrow. I think when I had DS it went from PP right into AF. Not sure what is going to happen now that I had a tubal, my OB said I might need to go on the pill to put me back into sync. Hope your nights are better. Having a newborn is hard work, I just forgot how tough the nights truly are. I guess we are so delirious & tired through the first few weeks we do forgot when the 2nd one comes.

aloha Sorry your trip to Target was such a nightmare. Next time you go out and this happens, please don't worry about what other people think. Give them a look like "what you've never seen a child cry before" My DS cried all the way from NYC to LAX on a very crowded plane when he was 1 1/2, after that episode, I truly don't care what people think anymore.

Hello to anyone else that I have missed. This sleepless brain isn't moving too quickly these days.

Okay, maybe I'll have a minute to finish my post from last night!
DS is sleeping in the Bjorn!

Bomb- I started walking a couple of weeks ago b/c I just can't stand how jiggly I am and I hear you on the huge BB...OMG, I knew they would get big I just didn't realize how big:eek: I will send some weight loss vibes your way, but i'm sure you look great.

Stars- Our babies are 5 weeks tomorrow, I can't believe how quickly time is going by, it makes me a little sad :( Sorry Emma still isn't sleeping well and screw the Dr. ~When was the last time he tried to BF?

USAF- UGGGHHH, sorry to hear AF has returned. I just stopped bleeding from PP and I'm still spotting a little. Hopefully, BF will keep her away for awhile.

QOTD- What did you sware you would never do when you had kids, but now that you have kids find yourself doing?

I have several, but the main one is co-sleeping. I swore that DS wouldn't sleep in bed with us (mainly for safety issues), but now that he's here I'll let him sleep wherever he will stay asleep the longest. Not only has he slept in our bed several nights he has also slept on my chest many nights. I used to toss and turn in my sleep, now I can sleep without moving a single muscle. Whatever it takes to get him to sleep I'm pretty much willing to try ;)

Sex- Anyone else's DH driving them crazy about this? Seriously, I delivered a human out of my woo-hoo not even 5 weeks ago and DH can't understand why we have to wait 6 weeks. MEN:rolleyes:

Back to work- Mom's who are returning to work, when did you go back?

BBL_- I have to pay some medical bills :mad:

PrincessCJ81 Since Emma is my last child it truly bums me out how fast she is growing. I am trying to take in more of the "moments". I was watching some video of my DS when he was a newborn and I said to my DH that I didn't even remember him being that small. I can't believe it has been 5 weeks already. Your too funny about your husband. I have completely lost my drive over here. My excuse is the baby, being 40, hypothyroid, lack of sleep, feeling fat ... need I go on ... they just don't get it!

Elenna
03-15-2007, 11:45 AM
QOTD What I said I wouldn't do: I, too, said I wouldn't co-sleep, but as soon as we got DS home I couldn't let him out of my sight. He co-slept with us for the first month. He transitioned to sleeping in his pack-n-play without any fussing.

sleeping: DS goes about 4 hours, then 2 and 2 at night. The other night he did go one 5 hour stretch and that was so nice.

eating: DS has been feeding non-stop for a week. He's been wanting to eat every hour. Is there a 7-8 week growth spurt?! Its been driving me nuts. The only thing that is keeping me sane is seeing DS getting bigger/growing as a result.

sex: DH started bugging me for sex at 6 weeks, but I was still bleeding. We finally DTD this week when I finally stopped bleeding and spotting. DH is now a happy camper. I'm also a happy camper because I have my sex drive back (it totally disappeared when I was pregnant). I have a prescription for b/c but we're not going to use it. We're using condoms.

outings: I've been going out every day since 6 weeks for a couple of hours because that's the only way to get DS to sleep during the day. It is for my sanity. Yesterday I took him to my old job to show him off. We've mainly been going to the mall to walk around. There are a lot of women walking the mall during the day with their babies. I imagine we're all there for the same reason...our sanity.

usafwife: Glad you're getting over the flu.

stars: I don't think that's right that your ped makes you feel like a bf-ing failure. Have you considered switching to another doctor?

bombera: Sending weight loss vibes your way. Is the wedding actually on April Fools Day?

isobel: I'm in awe that you're doing this with two babies. I don't think I could handle two Lee's.

I feel like a bad mommy. Yesterday I got new glasses and wasn't used to them yet. Well, because of the new glasses I accidentally banged DS's head into a door as I walked by while holding him. He cried and the area that hit turned red but didn't swell. He seems fine, but I woke up every hour last night to check on him to make sure he was ok. I called the ped and was reassured he'll be fine, but still I worried all night. I was worried about a head injury.:rolleyes:

Other than that, Lee is doing good. He's up to 12 lbs (according to the scale at home). He, too, has a double chin and very chunky legs. He barely fits in some of his 0-3 month clothes.

rancherswife

qotd: Oh geez, the biggest one for us thus far is letting landon sleep with us, beyond the co-sleeper days. He went from his co-sleeper at 8mos. into his crib with no problems and then in November he got sick and continued to get sick and I was too preggo and too tired to fight him, and he's been between us ever since! I SWORE we were NOT going to do this! ;) Reece is currently quite cozy in his co-sleeper, and we'll probably move him to his crib around 6-8 mos. and hopefully, he'll stay there! :)

sex: Oddly at two and a half weeks PP, I physically could DTD. However, I'm beat and still bleeding off and on, I'll go all day and not bleed and then get a big gush, at least once before the days end! Surely it has something to do with chasing Landon non-stop. ;) We will be waiting to get the green light from my OB, though. Dh remembers from last time and has not really bugged me about it too much..yet...we ARE only two weeks into it though! ;)

elenna: Don't feel bad, those things happen. I'm glad he's OK though!

ranchers ~ Thanks.

isobel ~ Glad to hear things are going good. I can only imagine what it's like with twins.

Carrie ~ Glad to hear things are getting better for you. Thank you for your kind words. The updates are just mainly going to be updating the WBV stats and a few things for the ids (ages, pictures). Sarah's fine as long as she doesn't have milk but we are going to try it again today to see how she does with it. I think 4 days without it is enough. Payton is adorable!! I love pictures of little ones sleeping.

Candice ~ Thanks. It might not have been so bad but DD wanted to sit on me and do everything for DS. My hip bones are so sore (for what reason I don't know) that I can hardly touch them let alone have a 25lb toddler sitting directly on top of them.

Michelle ~ Thanks. It's actually only her second illness in almost 2 years. We made it all the way to her 18 month birthday without her being sick once. I thank my lucky stars for that. Don't stress about the weight....you just had a precious baby girl. If you don't have something you can wear maybe you can find a good sale.

Kat ~ Congrats on having him baptized. We need to talk to our minister about having A dedicated (they don't do baptisms until they are older).

stars ~ Sorry about the Good Start not working out. Don't let the ped make you feel bad for not BFing. After all not everyone can do it...if it were only so easy as saying I'm going to BF and have more than enough milk. Thanks. Yes, a newborn is definitely hard work and then fact in a toddler who has her moments in terrible 2s and it is oh so much fun! (I remind myself more than a few times just why I wanted them two years apart. ;) )

Candice ~ Thanks. I hope AF stays away from you for a while.

QOTD- What did you sware you would never do when you had kids, but now that you have kids find yourself doing? I didn't really think that I'd let them sleep with us but we did. I wanted to have A start sleeping in the PNP from the start and stick with it but it hasn't worked out that way.

stars ~ We should talk as my thyroid is acting up again. They think that is the reason for the bleeding issues. I hope the new dosage works if not we will see what the next step is.

Elenna ~ Thanks. Don't worry. It probably won't be the last bump. DH and I bumped DD's head into the doors a lot at first.

Little Ones ~ I feel like my little one is so small compared to everyone else. He's only around 8lbs now. Still wearing preemie clothes for the most part (newborn in a couple). And still in newborn size diapers (though he can wear preemie better). He is still tiny and skinny. His arms and legs are like sticks. I feel so bad for him at his upcoming 2 month checkup when he gets his shots. He has no meat on his legs so I hope they can still give him his shots.

We get the "oh he must be a newborn" comments when we go out. You should see the look on their face when we say he's almost 8 wks old. Their eyes pop out and their mouths drop.

Thyroid Problems ~ They told us at the hospital that his thyroid levels were okay but I'm starting to wonder. They told us we'd have to keep an eye on him due to me being on meds during the pregnancy (they actually told us they would both be at risk for having thyroid problems given my history and the family history). I wonder if that's the reason for his slow weight gain.

My thyroid is acting up again. Doesn't really surprise me because I had suspected that it was off again with how I was feeling. They said that could also be the reason for the heavy bleeding. It also explains why I had no milk supply again. Darn this darn thyroid!

usafwife I found out I was hypothyroid at 7 weeks pregnant. I believe I was long before that because it explains why I felt the way I did between having DS and then getting preggo with DD. My level was 4.90 and the Peri. could not believe I conceived with a level that high. Anywho, I've been on 75mcg Synthroid and have a appointment with a new Endo. next week. You brought up some really good points for me. 1) I need to speak to the Ped. about getting my DD tested (she was not tested in the hospital) and was also wondering if she too will have issues in the future 2) Maybe that is one of the reasons my milk never came in this time around. I will be interested to see if this was a preggo related thyroid issue or if I'll have to stay on Synthroid forever.

stars ~ I found out I was hyperthyroid when DD was about 3 months old. My levels were less than 0.01. It explained why I had such heavy, long cycles and felt the way I did (exhuasted beyond belief, hair falling out, couldn't be cold/hot, could sleep at the drop of a hat, etc). I was suppose to start on another med but after doing some research decided it wasn't something I wanted to take so I made an appt with another doc to see what they suggested. He recommend that I not go on the med due to the fact that we wanted to have future children so he put me on another med. I was on that until I had my first real appt with the OB this time (at 6 wks). That's when we found out I had become hypothyroid. My levels were close to 10 so it's a miracle that we got pregnant. I still wonder how it happened with my levels being that high. Even my OB couldn't believe that it we had gotten pregnant with it being that high. I put on 50 mcg of Synthroid. I started spotting/bleeding and they attributed that to my levels not being where they should. That continued for the rest of the first tri and a few wks into the 2nd. I was concerned about m/c and was suppose to stay off my feet as much as possible during that time. I was 75 mcg for most of the pregnancy as well. Now I'm back at 50 mcg and we'll see how that goes.

My OB assured me that I shouldn't have the same problems I had with the milk when S was born. But I now see that should have been my first sign that something wasn't right because even though I had more milk than I had with her it still wasn't where it should have been this time. Even with the Reglan.

I don't know what A's levels were as they never told me. I actually have a copy of S's levels that the hospital sent with her PKU results and hospital certificate.

My mom has been hypo for a few years and my aunt (my mom's sister) was diagnosed two years ago. I also get to deal with enlarged thyroid and groiter. I always feel as though something is stuck in my throat. I even have trouble eating some foods. No doubt or question that I'll be on synthroid for the rest of my life.

Love the new thread. Thanks for all your hard work, threadmistress!

I'm so behind on SO's but just know I'm reading along with everyone.

QOTD - hhhmmm, I can't think of anything right off the bat...probably just my sleep deprived brain as I know there are plenty of things I'm doing that I thought I would never.

sex - Are you freakin' kidding me????? :eek: No way!! But then again, I'm only 4 weeks pp and still bleeding a little bit. I do feel my libido starting to come back though, but we will wait the full 6 weeks before attempting.

sleeping - Luke will now sleep 4 hours a stretch at night. I keep hoping each night he'll surprise me and maybe sleep 5 or 6 but no such luck.

eating - Luke is a religious eater. Every 4 hours at night and then every 2 1/2 to 3 hours during the day.

work - I'm going back to work when Luke is 11 weeks old. I hate thinking about it. :(

I swear my kid is the champion pee-pee'er. Every time the diaper comes off a little fountain appears. :p He is fussy at night (his witching hour I tell myself) but is pretty good otherwise. He loves the sling, so he gets to spend some time in that each day while I get things done. I need to get better at giving him tummy time.

Candice & Michelle - I did take pics of the gorgeous bedding, but with the chaos of family in town this week & wkend I don't know when I'll get them uploaded. Hopefully soon though!!!

Michelle - Hmm infant diapers you say?? Shoot ya, I have still yet to email Bree to get my order going :rolleyes: Let me know how many of what kind and price info!!

QOTD - I was positive I wouldn't introduce a paci until after 6 wks, but with H being such a big sucker I just had to.

Sex - My poor DH has been deprived for so long since I completely lost my drive during pgcy, but he's been a trooper and hasn't bothered me too much about it. At 2 wks PP I'm pretty healed down there but won't attempt DTD for a few more weeks even though my hormones are raging.

Everything is still going fine on our end, but some days I just feel like I'm forgetting to do something. It's probably just the guilt of not having my Thank You's done :o , but I'm hoping next week with DH back in the office I can actually get stuff done!!

Hi all! I'm still around! Things have been busy here and I am just reading along most days!!

QOTD: I think I ate all my words hte first time around!! :)

Sex: Oh, we are the minority! We broke the doctors 4 week rule two days early! :( :) But the hormones were just too much for me! heeh! Last time though it was about 2 or 3 months after the doctor gave the okay because things were SOOOO sore for that long. This time around, it was all feeling good by 2 weeks PP.

usawife- don't worry about your baby being small still. Enjoy it, they don't stay little nearly long enough!

---

Us: Things are going better. J is slowly gaining. He gained a whooping 3 oz from 3 weeks to 4 weeks. THe doctor wasn't happy, but then I explained that we had dropped all the formula supplements that he was getting and I stopped pumping round the clock and just put him to the breast on demand and he was a bit okay with that. He wasn't thrilled, he would rather have bottles. He used to be soooo supportive of bf-ing. I don't know what happened. :( It's sad. But he's good in other ways so we aren't ready to switch just yet. But back to us. John is gaining, you can see it in his face. He's eating any time he's awake, but sleeps for about 4 hour chunk of time during the day and at least one, if not two times like that at night. I've learned that if I swaddle him, he sleeps longer, so the swaddle blanket is our savior right now (do they make bigger ones???He's long and will outgrow this one quickly).

bombera77

QOTD- The pacifier for us. I didn't introduce it until about 4 weeks and I never thought I would use one at all, but Zoey has taken a real liking to it lately. Sometimes I think she is like Maggie on the Simpson, just sucking away! I am happy to give it to her, otherwise she is sucking my nipples raw! I am hoping she will grow out of it.

I too swore the baby would not be in the bed and for the most part she isn't. She was more at the very beginning, but now she really sleeps better in her cradle and so do I!

So sorry to those of you dealing with Thyroid issues. That can't be fun at all...

Sex- well I had my 6-week on Monday so I am sure DH will be lurking around this weekend with longing eyes. Okay, this might be TMI, but we were "cuddling" on Sunday after I took a shower and about 10 minutes into it, I realized that I had leaked a huge puddle on the bed from my boob! Very sexy huh? He was sweet about it and wasn't grossed out, but I felt silly. I think I have been avoiding sex because it has been so long and I am incredibly nervous. Is that crazy? I guess it is just time to jump back in- I really want my sex drive back. Anyone know how I can find it again?

Danea- Don't be crazy girl, they are yours for the taking. They aren't brand name dipes, so they are probably good for night time when they typically don't poo, but they have worked well for me. I didn't pay for them, so you don't have to either! :)

Work- I have to go back for a few days because the policy is if you don't return to work you have to repay them for your health care while on leave. It stinks, but I have a friend who will watch Zoey for that time. I talked with my bosses and it is pretty certain that they are going to put me on Part-Time status and at my office that means I don't have a set schedule and that I can work from home, or after hours, weekends and such, but they will keep me on the payroll. If I don't submit a timesheet for two months, that is fine, if I submit one every week with 2 hours on it, that is fine too. I think that is going to work out well for us. I want to stay in the loop, but I don't want to be away from my baby. We could use any extra money, so that will help out a lot! I am excited that it worked out this way.

Okay, I am off to change a loaded dipe!

Have a great weekend ladies!

rancherswife, those are great announcements!!

michelle, that is awesome that you are able to do part time work. I am still holding out hope that I will be able to as well.

lady, I lvoe the swaddle blanket as well. I can't imagine life without it right now. If you find a bigger one, let me know. I'm sorry the dr isn't as supportive of BF as you need right now. But you know you are doing the right thing for your family. It will all work out!!

danea, I haven't even thought about the thank you notes yet. I figure I get a month to do them :) I am also looking forward to having my house to myself next week. I think it will be easier to get things done without other people hovering all over the place.

jenjen, I'm bad at tummy time as well. I blame it on the fact that it is very difficult for me to get down to the floor but that isn't exactly true. I have to laugh about your little fountain. So stereotypical for little boys no?

stars and usaf, sorry to hear of all the stuff you are dealing with on the thyroids. Not fun at all. and stars, that really sucks that your dr isn't understanding on the BF issue. Like there is anything you can do about it :rolleyes:

QOTD: I didn't have too many ideas about what we would or wouldn't do, but we do let Payton sleep in our bed (in her carseat, between our pillows...hey, it works so why not?) and we let her have a pacifier from day 2. she is quite a sucker and my nipples are still recovering from her hospital treatment of them.

As for sex, we haven't dtd yet, but I have been nice to DH ;) Just to see him with Payton, I thought it was one heck of a turn on...but I am still bleeding a little, so it will be another 2 weeks for us probably. I have been told to have some KY on hand, so I need to pick some up on a shopping trip one of these days.

QOTD: I'd say we introduced a pacifier sooner than we were planning, too. I hadn't bought any since I wanted to get started with BF first, but the day before my milk came in his sucking was fierce and my mom convinced me to try the pacifier and it worked.

sex-Definitely waiting until my pp appointment and then we'll see how it goes from there.

jenjen-Our little guy is a major pee fountain as well. He pees once or twice at just about every changing.

danea-I'm just starting on thank you notes now (past 1 month) so you've got plenty of time.

ranchers-Beautiful announcement

9 weeks

Geez, sorry for being so bad about replies! Malcolm has hit this stage where he wants to be held all the time and screams if he's not! I am reading along and sending good thoughts to you all though.

The good news- at his 2 month visit he was exactly 12 lbs, which puts him at 65% for a full-term baby, which is incredibly awesome! He's a shorty though- only 21 inches, which puts him at 22% for height, and is probably why newborn clothes still fit him the best- I've only just started moving him into size 0-3. I have no fear he'll grow taller later- both DH and I are tall. The ped said he's just putting on that fat layer he didn't get because he was born early.

The orthopedist appointment didn't go so well- unfortunately his hips are still out of joint, and he has to wear a brace for the next 3 weeks, and then we do another series of ultrasounds to see if he wears it for another 3 (so 6 weeks total.) Obviously, M is not a fan of the brace.

Work I'm going back part-time in April, full-time in May. I will miss him so much!

DTD um, not here! I am scared. Plus DH does the night shift and I do the day shift and we're both exhausted.

lady1927: have you tried using the Ultimate Receiving Blanket as a swaddling blanket? It's 42"x42". http://www.swaddledesigns.com/products.html

la_bride:sorry to read about Malcolm's appointment. I hope you get better news at the next one.

rancherswife: cute announcements!

Pacifiers: Alex has been using one since about day 3 or 4.

Alex had his 2-month WBV on Wednesday. He's now 11lb, 3oz, 22.5 inches. He's right at the 50th percentile.

DH is heading back to work on Monday after his paternity leave. He has been so great that I'm stressed about how I'll be able to handle everything by myself!

The flu is still going around our area, so the pediatrician wants us to pretty much keep to ourselves for another month. We've taken Alex on errands and walks, but that's about it. I was really looking forward to joining mom groups and playgroups, but, alas, that has to wait for another month. I spent most of my pregnancy stuck at home because I was so ill, so I'm eager to get back out in the world!

Question about sleep: does your child scooch or turn while sleeping? Alex will move up to a foot to the left or right. He'll also rotate 90 degrees sometimes. Needless to say, I don't get much sleep when he sleeps in our bed.

Hailey had her 2 week WBV and she is up 10 oz in one week!! BUT, they found microscopic blood in her stool so I have to cut out all dairy for two weeks (accidentally had cheese enchiladas for dinner so that'll start tomorrow). AND I have mastitis so I'm on antibiotics now.

Besides H doing so great, the appt was a big downer. We waited 50 minutes in a freezing room to see the Dr; yup they forgot about us b/c the nurse put us in the wrong room :rolleyes: . Then when the Dr was checking H's diaper she peed all over the brand new quilted blanket she got yesterday :( (thanks a lot doc). Then I got the bad news on my behalf and the Dr immediately starting talking supplementing which was devastating. The Dr seemed so pro BF, but now all of a sudden she's shoving formula in my hands when I don't see the need for it just yet.
By the time we got home it was way past H's feeding so she was crying a lot and DH actually yelled at me to quit expressing my engorged bb's and feed her. I had a complete break down and sobbed while I fed her, but I think after I yelled back at DH he finally understands that this is no cake walk for me and I need more support than he's giving right now.

Anyway other than my major rant, today was great and we visited lots of family. H met her great-great-grandmother and the old ladies just oohed and ahhed over her. Then we went on our first restaurant outing and she slept through the whole thing!! It was a very long day, and I'm sure tomorrow will be just the same so I better get my sleep while I can!!!

dpangel: Sorry about the crappy appt., that is the worst when you have to wait at the ped.! I've done it....with a sick toddler and it's NO.FUN! As for the breakdown, your story reminded me completely of when I first had Landon, and how dh and I would just completely snap at eachother in the beginning, hang in there girl, it's completely normal and it does get better, I promise. It's suuuuuch an adjustment bringing a new little life into your home when you're so used to it being just the two of you, and even if your dh doesn't realize it....I promise you, he's dealing with issues of having to share your attention...that's just how men are! ;) Hang in there...we had it figured out oh...by the time Landon was a year and I was pg w/ Reece...lol, j/k, it takes a few months! :)

la bride: Poor Malcom....that doesn't look fun...but I must say, those little rolls on his inner thighs in that picture are the BEST!!!! I was to bite his little legs...I love the rolls!!! Good job mama! :)

Reece is attending his first b-day party today. His cousins 2nd birthday. I'll keep him in the bjorn (Brett has cattle being shipped in and out today so he's a no go) but thankfully my parents will be there too, so they can help chase Landon...He'll be thrilled I'm sure, there's a bounce house...he's never been in one, should make for good times! :)

Danea- Sorry for the crappy appt. Great News on the weight gain, obviously you are doing something right and obviously Hailey is doing well on momma's milk. I wouldn't supplement at this point either, make the dairy adjustments and monitor the results before you make any changes (IMHO)

LaBride- OMG Malcom is so adorable. The face babies make when they are upset is so cute, I just can't help but love it! DS is in the same "hold me" stage. He wants me to hold him all the time, it's frusterating at times, but so nice to be needed =) Sorry for the hip problems, I hope they clear up for him.

Ranchers- Enjoy the B-day party and the Bounce house!

Add Zoey and I to the "hold me" stage. I can't get anything done. DH has been working late and today he went to the Patty's day parade - not a family parade like you would think- naughty floats sponsored by strip clubs and all... anyway, have been on my own a lot... hope this lets up soon. must go- very fussy baby preventing me from typing well.

Thanks girls for your responses, and Michelle thanks for the phone call even though I was asleep :o

I think I just needed to vent last night as DH and I were at odds. This morning was pretty icky but after I took a shower I was a whole new person. I finally realized I've had a fever for the past few nights as I'd been waking up in pools of sweat and now understand why I haven't been feeling myself lately.

BF'ing today was much better and I experienced very little pain in the infected boob so I'm glad the antibiotics are working already!!

Hope you guys are having a good weekend.

dpangel-I can relate to what you're going through since I have mastitis too. I started having chills alternating with overheating, a headache and fever of 101 on Friday night. I slept most of the day yesterday. I never even got out of my pajamas. I started on antibiotics and the fever has finally passed, but I still feel pretty uncomfortable. Kudos to my DH who took care of Samuel all day yesterday and is out grocery shopping now.

The positive part of this is that we wanted to introduce a bottle this week, but I hadn't found time to pump. I went ahead and pumped on the affected side and DH shared the feedings yesterday. Samuel took the bottle with no problem and then returned to the breast without any apparent confusion.

dpangel and aloha- Doesn't the mastitis suck? I have heard that some people are just more prone to it, but I am glad I know what it feels like now for the future. The Dr. said that if it happens again to just call and they will call in a refill for me. This time I was in pain for a few days before I sucked it up and called the dr. I too had the night sweats, but I didn't put two and two together until you said something Danea!

Zoey is doing better today. I am breaking the cardinal rule and letting her nap on her stomach. She wakes up every time you set her down on her back to nap and when we put her on her stomach today, she has slept for hours! I keep checking her to make sure she is fine and she is- I won't do it at night- that would make me too nervous, but I spent my entire childhood on my stomach and nothing happened to me- they used to tell mothers to put babies on their stomachs... who knows. I just know I am not supposed to, but this afternoon stretch of nap is helping my sanity.

I switched bottles and she is taking the new one much better. I was using the medela bottles that went with my pump, but the milk just came out too fast. She loves her "soothie" pacifier (the hospital kind) and the company makes a bottle too so I picked that one up and she is taking it really well. I think I will pick up a few more of those from target. I have two packs of avent bottles and I might pick up one from target to see if she will take it and then I can take the two packages of three back if she doesn't like it. Otherwise I would be stuck with three instead of just one. We'll see. Right now I am just happy she is taking both the bottle and the boob!

TMI WARNING- Proceed with caution
How is it possible that DTD can hurt and even cause a minor tear (burning sensation) after having a vaginal birth? You would think things would be looser down there... For crying out loud, I birthed a baby, you would think that sex wouldn't be a problem. Well, not a problem really, but I guess I have to get my body back into "shape." Sorry for the TMI but I just had to vent that.

OMG, it's been WAY too long. Life has been crazy lately. During our first week home from the hospital, we had one of our hot water pipes burst. The plumber had to come and jackhammer into the walls to fix it. They found 2 feet of water in the walls. As a result, we had to move out of our house for a few days while they were fixing everything. Not fun at all.

Sophie is 3 weeks old and doing well. At her 2 week WBV, she was up to 7 lb 4 oz (birth weight of 6lb 6oz). Not surprising since she was nursing around the clock for a while there.

As far as sleep goes, I'm so jealous of you guys that are getting 3 and 4 hour blocks. Sophie is a HORRIBLE sleeper, especially as of late. At night, I might get a 3 hour block here and there, but for the most part, it's up every 1.5-2 hours. She's been really gassy lately (been trying to tweak my diet to see if that helps) and hasn't been sleeping for more than 20-30 minute stretches during the day.

This weekend, Sophie is taking her first road trip. My DH is in a wedding out of town so my mom is going to come w/ us and watch her while we're at the wedding. A little nervous about having her in a hotel room.

QOTD: Things you said you'd never do- I've been letting Sophie nap on her tummy here and there. Only during the day and only when I'm awake and not far from her. With her sleep issues, it's really the only way she'll take a long nap. Also, count me in regarding the pacifiers. She's been on it from day one.

QOTD: Sex- Haaa Haaa!!! Truth be told, I'm scared. Even though I had a c-section, I'm sure things will be kinda dry dut to the bf'ing. I know my DH is ready though.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with recurring mastitis Bombera :(. I have two questions for you or anyone else who's had mastitis:

-I thought I'd kicked the fever, but it turns out that it was the pain reliever. How long did it take for the antibiotics to take effect?

-Did the antiobiotic impact your supply? I usually have a strong letdown and I'm not hearing it now and he seems hungry when he's done.

Thanks in advance!

Add me to the list of people with mastitis. I woke up in the middle of the night Friday freezing cold, shaking with chills. I took my temp and it was 103. But no sign of anything going on with my breasts...so I just thought it was a virus and started taking motrin, which really helped the fever. Until yesterday afternoon. My left breast is very tender and splotchy red. I've got to get in to the dr today to get some antibiotics. I didn't think it was worth an ER visit yesterday. And of course, today is my first day alone with Payton.

Ugh to all of you with mastitis. That has to really be rough. Prayers to you that it will clear up really quick!

DS2 is doing well. He's slowly starting to pork up. I can see a difference in his leg rolls! They are definitly not as loose skinned!

We spent Saturday working in the attic guest room. We made progress but there is still a lot to do. I hope this weekend we'll make more progress. We got as far as needing to find the shopvac on Saturday before we quit! How sad, right?! We are out of money for the moment, so all we can do is straigten and organize for when we do have money! Yesterday we all went over to my mom's. DS1 is always SOO wound up there. I don't get it. He gets into everything and tries my patience which in turn makes me grumpy with DH! :( But DS2 got some quality cuddles from great-grandma and that's all that really matters (my grandma lives with my parents). And we got our corned beef and cabbage and potatos! YUM! DS2 will be gassy today and I am shamelessly not caring becuase I LOVE cabbage and potatoes! :)

I didnt even realize there was a new thread...I guess thats how much Ive really been online lately and paying attention to my CC threads! Finally today I noticed I hadnt gotten an email about the old thread in awhile!

Anyways we are doing okay over here too...As best as we can get at the moment. Jenna is SO fussy and much more difficult than Lauren was. I say she has 3 modes (sleeping, awake and eating, or awake and crying). Ive been to the pediatricians several times along with several calls to try to figure out whats going on with her. They kept blaming it on formula intolerance, and I kept saying it was reflux. Well finally after 3 weeks of dealing with numerous formula changes, inconsolable Jenna and very little patience left they have finally agreed with me and prescribed some zantac for her. I just picked it up this am so Im looking forward to seeing if it soothes her...because at this point nothing else is! Shes currently on the high priced formula and still gets some bm throughout the day from when I pump so Im hoping to see a difference soon and possibly have a happy baby soon!

Whew....I keep thinking our thread will slow down since we all have newborns and I'll better be able to keep up, but you ladies put me to shame. I can barely get on the computer but every couple of days and just read what is going on that I have no time for SO's.

lady1297 - The best advice I can give is just know the baby will be attached to your bb pretty much non-stop for a couple days. Have water, the TV remote, magazines, and books handy to pass the time. I actually found the 6 month growth spurt to be the worst for us. He nursed every hour on the hour for 2 days straight! :eek:

sex - I'm scared half to death to go down that path. I remember last time I was still in pain after 4 months pp and my doctor told me that I just needed to have sex more. :confused: It did eventually get better, but man, those first few months were uncomfortable.

Sorry to those battling the mastitis! Hopefully those antibiotics will help those of you who are suffering.

Luke is now 4 weeks old and we have his 6 weeks picture scheduled and his baptism scheduled. Now I just need to find a new dress to wear to his baptism. I can finally fit into my jeans, but it is a TIGHT fit and noone wants to see the roll that happens when I button them. :p Luke is sleeping for about 4 hour stretches at night now, but has an incredibly fussy time in the evenings. Luckily, he loves the sling, so that helps soothe him part of the time.

We had our three week appt on Friday. He is up to 11 pounds 2 ounces now. The MW scale only goes up to 12 pounds so we will probably have to weigh me while holding him and then weigh me alone to get his weight.

We had a rough night last night. I had a migrane and could not even stand the sound of his breathing since he is congested. Of course my husband wasn't much good, but he did change him for me, to bad mikey can't wear asize 4 diaper they leak horribly.

jenjen Don't feel bad, I barely get to check my e-mail most days. Ben is trashing the house while I do this. He has a dirty diaper that he is refusing to let be changed.

Jenjen-Thanks! I'll just be chilling all week anyway! I can't remember it with DS1 because he was getting a lot of formula then! Makes a difference!

sex- We just weren't shy about the lube. A bit of wine helps too, to calm your nerves. :)

3 weeks today!!!

I cannot believe my baby is already 3 weeks old. How does time fly so fast?

Again, my condolences to all of you dealing with mastitis...hope it clears up and stays away for good, for all of you very soon!

No time for SO's, I started tutoring again today and it's time for that...Hopefully Reece will be a good boy, while I tutor, he'll probably want the boob in his mouth the whole time...good thing this little boy is one of four and me bf'ing won't traumatize him, his mother reassured me. ;)

So sorry for all you dealing with mastisis. I hope the antibiotics kick in and it goes away quickly.

rancherswife: The time really does fly by so fast. It is scary how fast it is flying by. I keep staring at my DS and trying to memorize how is looks and acts right now before he changes. We are taking photos that'll help with that, too.

stomach sleeping: I've done this with DS, too, but only while I'm right there next to him to monitor him. He seems to really like sleeping on his stomach. He'll sleep much longer and with much less gruntings.

daniel's kitty: Ouch, that's rough. I hope the migraine is gone today.

jenjen: Wow, congratulations for being able to fit into your prepregnancy jeans! I still can't even get mine over my hips.

I have a question: I've been pumping so DH can take a turn or two at feeding DS. DH has tried feeding DS a couple of times but DS just screams and screams. He just won't latch to the bottle nipple. We've tried a couple of different nipples now and none of them are working. For those of you who are breastfeeding and using a bottle how'd you get your DC to take the bottle? BTW: DS doesn't take/like pacifiers either.

DS has really changed in the past couple of weeks. He's smiling at us and looking us in the eyes more and more. He's babbling (making oooh and ahh noises and shreaks) at us and his "friends" (he was smiling and babbling at the mobile over his bassinet this morning). He even started laughing yesterday.

Unfortunately DS has become a horrible sleeper at night. The longest streak I've gotten in the last week has been 3 hours. His night sleeping pattern is now 3 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour, 1 hour, 1 hour. I'm exhausted. At first I was feeding him after every one hour waking, but he'd only feed for 5 minutes then fall asleep. Now I'm just putting him in the sling and walking him back to sleep. Shushing, holding him, and swaddling him all don't work only the sling is working to put him back to sleep. I sooo want that fabled sleeping through the night pattern that people say happens around 8 weeks.

elenna: We haven't tried anything with Reece yet, but when I'd pump and leave Landon for an evening, he'd take the Playtex Nurser w/ drop-ins, he latched right onto that nipple with no problem, and it worked well for him. I'll try the same thing with Reece when I need to leave him.

Elenna If it makes you feel any better, my DD nights are herendous. She has been sleeping all day and then at night it is 3, 2 or sometimes 1 hour. I hoped that once she was starting to drink more (she is up to 4 1/2 oz.) that she would sleep longer but NOPE! Hang in there.

stomach sleeping One of the Peds in the practice actually told me to put my DS on his stomach during the day when he was an infant. I think I'm going to try it also with DD. I remember him sleeping like a rock.

Hope you ladies with nursing issues get better soon.

Gotta go crying baby!

Just dropping in real quick- Aloha- the antibiotics worked within 24 hours for me. If you still aren't feeling better, definitely call you Dr! I hope this clears up for you soon.

Supply- it didn't seem to affect mine, but then again, I have never felt my let down, so I couldn't really tell you. She just eats and eats and eats. I wonder if I will ever feel it...

I will try to write more soon!

Any formula fed babies in here?

Im supplementing DD and Im wondering how many oz's of formula or bm your little ones are taking at this point...DD is taking 3ozs and it just seems like it doesnt last her long, but she never really acts like she wants more after she is done. 3ozs is when Ive pumped and just give it to her in a bottle without nursing beforehand.

Thanks Bombera! My fever broke Monday morning (48 hrs later) and I'm feeling much better despite being a bit run down. I can tell the letdown is happening when he's gulping like crazy and sometimes has to unlatch to catch his breath. It seems like my supply has returned a bit and he's more satisfied after nursing.

I am feeling much better as well, so thank you all for the thoughts.
My letdown feels similar to what rancherswife describes...I can definitely tell when it is happening.

So, what do you all do to entertain your little ones. As mine is getting more alert (she'll be awake and alert for up to an hour at times), I'm not sure what to do with her. We read books, I'll put on the floor playmat and in her swing. Today we did 10 min in the crib so she could watch that mobile as a change. But I feel like I'm supposed to do more (and I can only read so many childrens books a day!).

boiler: It's pretty generic when they're this little. You are doing all the things that I did with Landon and will do with Reece once he's a little more alert. Just sitting and talking to them, even if they have a blank stare on their face, is good for them too. Also, a little tummy time is good too. :)

Aug2002: Sophie takes about 3.5 oz of EBM at a time. Doesn't last her that long either, as she's up in about 2 hours wanting more. I read somewhere that newborns take anywhere from 2-5 oz per feeding.

Letdown: Mine feels like a deep itch.

Boilermaker: I was wondering the same thing. It sounds like we do the same things that you're doing, so I guess we're all okay. ;)

Asmile at 3am keeps me from going nuts.
Seriously! They give em to you just when you need it, don't they?

Anyone else have a kid that doesn't like to sleep? If I let her, Sophie will stay up ALL DAY LONG and then be super cranky all night. She's not the typical newborn, where she'll fall asleep on her own. She gets sleepy and then gets cranky, trying to fight her sleep. I have to insert her paci, rock and shush her to sleep. Everytime! And now, for the past few days, she's been refusing to sleep on her back. During the day, she'll sleep on her tummy, no prob. But at night, when I put her down, she's up within 15 minutes. Any advice?

Thanks for all your thoughts, the mastitis has definitely gotten better therefore so has the BF'ing.

letdown - I typically feel a tingling sensation and a wave of warmth in my bbs with my letdown. If I haven't fed in awhile it's kinda painful.

Today we had a Dallas GTG and it was great. We ate lunch then cruised the mall afterwards and had a fabulous time!!

Sending healing vibes for those of you with mastitis!

letdown I get the painful tingle too, kinda like little electric shocks.

Aug I pump, but he gets 4 oz of EBM per feeding. At night this will last for 3- 3.5 hours, during the day only 2 hours before he's screaming for more!

boilermaker I was wondering the same thing! Good to know we all are doing the same stuff. I just carry M around a lot.

ladybug No answers- M is doing the same thing. I figure it's a phase.

QOTD- Fingernails Ok, help me! I am too scared to use the clippers, so I file those suckers almost every day, but I must be missing some. M has scratches on his face and sometimes they are so deep they bleed! What are you all doing?

la_bride ~ Malcolm doesn't look like he likes the brace at all. I can't say as I blame him either. A is still in preemie clothes at 2 months. He's starting to wear some of the newborn things due to needing length (mostly things that are one piece and/or have feet in them). But the preemie things still fit him best around.

ejs ~ Yes, A turns himself around while sleeping. I can put him in the PNP with his head and feet in one direction and I'll wake up and find him turned the opposite (or atleast turned halfway). He's got some good strength in his legs, that's for sure!

dpangel ~ That makes no sense if they want you to count out all dairy but then push regular formula. Try the cutting dairy out and see if that helps with things. If not then you can try formula.

Hold Me stage ~ We are dealing with this as well. Maybe it's because he doesn't want his sister carrying him for fear she'll drop him.

Matitis ~ So sorry to those of you who are dealing with that. I hope the meds knock it out and you all feeling better soon. {{{HUGS}}}

aloha ~ I haven't had matitis but I did take antibiotics for the infection I had in my lower calf that was discovered at 1 wk PP. At first they thought I had a blood clot but turns out I had a VERY bad infection. The antibiotics didn't really affect my supply as I was still BFing A at that time.

rancherswife ~ I don't know where the time goes because my little guy is now 2 months old. I'm in shock that it's been 2 months already. I forget it every now and then since he is still so small and wearing preemie/newborn sizes.

Elenna ~ When we doing a combination of BF and FF we used Gerber nipples because it was the only size that was small enough (we hunted all over for preemie nipples because the others were too big for him). I've heard good things about the Playtex Natural Latch nipples (that's the kind of nipples we used with DD). They say that they are the closest nipple to the actual breast.

Aug2002 ~ A gets 4 oz now. Though he spits some back up so he may only be getting 3 oz (and sometimes not even that) after all is said and done.

Kat ~ Yay on the smiles! I love it when A smiles at me. Makes me forget about having no sleep, feeling frustrated, being spit-up on, etc.

Carrie ~ Glad you are feeling better.

~ Count us in that department. A's been not wanting to go to sleep the past few days until anywhere between 1 and 3 am. It leaves me not getting much sleep since DD wants to get up between 7 and 9 am. Plus she is teething so there are all the joys that go along with that (last week it vomitting and this week it's the other end). Between last week and this week I've cleaned up more things than I want to for quite sometime.

[b]Weight Gain ~ Congrats on the good weight gains. My little one looks to be the smallest of the group. He's around 8lbs right now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As mentioned above I've been dealing with a toddler who is cutting her eye teeth (I'll be so glad when teething is over with). This has been by far the worst of all the teething. She doesn't complain or act like her mouth hurts it is just causing problems in other areas. Last week she vomitted anytime she was given milk. (And cleaning up sour milk is nasty.) So she didn't have any from Monday until Thursday. This week it's been coming out the other end. I've cleaned up more wet/liquid stools that I ever care to. Called the doc and he called in a script for her. It seems to be helping as they are as frequent and aren't as liquidy.
Yesterday was nasty rainy day. Today was better but it's suppose to rain again tomorrow. Saturday it's suppose to be close to 80 degrees.
Amount of food: Alex eats between 4-5 oz of EBM each feeding. His last bottle at night is sometime between 11pm and 1am and that seems to satisfy him until 6am at the earliest.
Fingernails: I'm scared of the clippers, too. I tried to clip his toenails and nipped him a bit. So now I just file all of his nails. When my BIL, who has two kids, was here, he clipped all of Alex's nail for us.
Mastitis mamas: I hope you're all feeling better!
Interacting with baby: We've been doing reading/looking at books, gyms, mobiles. His new favorite thing is to look at himself in the mirror above his baby papasan chair. It's as if he's flirting with himself; he smiles and laughs and coos. It's very cute.
Quick post with QOTD replies:
Amount of food DD is bottle fed formula and is taking 4 1/2 to 5 oz. now. She is a porker.
fingernails All I can recommend is the clippers with the long handle for your thumb (Here is a pic of the kit that I have with one it on the left). http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2373651&cp=2255984.2256209&parentPage=family They make it so much easier.
interaction I go from the papasan chair, to the swing, to the mat, to the bjorn. I also sing to her all the time instead of reading, she likes that.
Interacting- I sing to Zoey, and I sit her in my lap and chat with her. I also put her on her play mat and use the swing a lot when she is cranky- it seems to settle her quite a bit. I also read to her, but right now I am just reading my books! She doesn't really care as long as I am talking to her. I am sure I will start reading kids books soon, but right now she doesn't understand anyway, so I figure I might as well enjoy it too!
Fingernails ~ I clip them with the fingernail clippers. We have two pairs of the ones that stars posted. I got my practice with DD so it's easier with A. I've used the nail file on them as well. He's also still small enough that we still cover his hands in some of his outfits.
Michelle ~ A sits with me sometimes when I'm using the laptop as well. He just stares at the screen looking at the colors.
Elenna
03-22-2007, 01:29 PM
interacting: I carry DS around and sing and talk to him alot. We've read one children's book together that has touchy feeling stuff on the pages, but DS wasn't at all interested in it. He loves his activity gym and swing. He love to smile and laugh at the mobiles and stuff hanging from them. He also, unfortunately, loves to look at the TV. I guess it is all the colors and movement that attracts his attention.
fingernails: I've tried to cut and file DS's fingernails, but he fights me the whole time and clenches his hands into fists. He's very good at scratching himself with his sharp nails. He's even drawn blood on me and himself. I've taken to putting mittens on his hands.
amount of food: I have absolutely no idea how much food DS is getting. When I pump with my manual pump I can usually get 2-3 oz from one breast in 10 minutes of pumping. I know DS is more efficient at getting milk from me so I hope it is more than that (especially since he hardly ever feeds for more than 10 minutes).
letdown: For me it feels like a pressure in my breasts. It is only painful when the letdown happens when DS isn't feeding. For some reason it doesn't hurt in the other breast when letdown happens while DS is feeding.
WBV: DS had his 2 month WBV yesterday. He's up to 12 lbs 12 oz and 22 inches long. (I hope he starts to grow more in length soon. He comes from two families of tall people.) He also got his vaccinations yesterday. He wasn't a happy camper the whole rest of the day. He wanted to be held all the rest of the day. We went ahead and had him get the rotavirus vaccine. The ped said they've never seen an adverse reaction to that vaccine.
We'll see how far I get b/f DS wakes, he's currently asleep in the Bjorn!
Food Intake- DS has just increased from 3.5 oz to 4 oz. He eats every 3 hours during the day, but in the evening he is a lot more hungry and usually eats about 5oz. His last evening meal is at 11:30pm and he sleeps until about 4-4:30am on that, he eats again and sleeps until about 7:30am. Every day is a little different b/c I am out and about so much, but for the most part we stick to his schedule pretty well! I am still exclusively pumping.
Interaction- We don't really do anything special right now. DH and I just talk to DS like he's one of us. We have conversations with him (one-sided of course) and talk to him throughout the day. I also put him on his tummy to help him build his neck muscles. He's not a big fan of the swing, bouncy seat or glider. He does like to be worn and he enjoys his Boppy play thingy (boppy seat with toys hanging down from a soft bar) He also loves walks!!! He stays awake and just stares at the sky.
Mastitis- Glad to hear this is clearing up! I know it is super uncomfortable.
Fingernails- I clip them when DS is asleep. I wait until he is in a deep sleep and so far he hasn't even woke up during the process. I also use the clippers stars suggested.
Weightgain- This is so different for every child. DS seems to be a bit of a chunk. (Michelle and Danea will testify to this) He eats about the same amount as everyone else, he just seems to have my weight gaining genes =)
Vaccinations-DS's are scheduled for next Friday =( I am so nervous about these..... Did anyone give DC Baby Tylenol b/f they went? My sis suggested it and I was wondering if most people do this?
Vaccinations ~ Candice, DD's ped recommend we give her some Tylenol an hour before the appt. It helped her to sleep afterwards. I plan to give DS some before his appt as well. You can always call the office and see if the recommend it and how much to give (it's based on their weight so unless you know their exact weight they recommend giving the smallest dose).
Play-We talk or sing to him much of the day. He spends lots of time in the pouch each day. He doesn't like the swing much unless he's already asleep. We do a little tummy time here and there. He's just starting to enjoy little toys that rattle or play sounds. The mobile doesn't do anything for him yet. Mostly he just wants food, sleep and to be held!
oh, Kim that sounds horrible. I hope it clears up soon!!
I feel better that everyone is doing the same "interaction" stuff. Yesterday we went on a tour of the house :) She learned about all our furniture, pictures, etc. And she definitely loves mirrors. I can put her on her changing table and she'll stare at herself in the mirror for 5+ min. It is cute. This weekend we are hoping the weather is nice enough to take her to a park. She does seem to like being outside and loves being in the Baby Bjorn.
For the ROs and those of you farther along than I am (ok, that would be all of you)...when does your milk supply start to even out? I have such an oversupply, it is driving me crazy. I'm trying to not pump as much because I don't want my body to think I need to produce that much milk, but when I don't pump after every feeding, I am so engorged, it hurts. I think this is how I ended up with mastitis...engorgement coupled with the open cracks on my nipples (which are almost completely gone thank goodness). I know Payton is getting enough as she is gaining plenty of weight.
Elenna
vaccinations: I really dreaded the vaccinations, too. I didn't give DS baby tylenol before the appt because I didn't even think of it. I nursed DS right afterwards to help calm him down. The ped's nurse gave us baby tylenol to give him if he seems to be in pain or runs a fever. I didn't use any until last night when DS started to run a mild fever and was fussy. The amt to use really depends on a combo of weight and age. DS weighs enough for the larger dose, but the nurse said to stick to the smaller dose due to his age.
rancherswife: I hope the antibiotics kick in soon for you.
boilermaker: Sorry, I can't remember when the breastmilk supply is supposed to even out.
We are patiently awaiting a monster poop around here. John is following his brother's general refusal to poop more than once a week. Just now there was a bit of staining in his diaper, so I suspect that before mignight I'll be cleaning onesies and covers like a fiend! In other news, he's definitly is growing. Hi Mommies! It's been slow around here.
Glad to hear most of you are feeling better =)
I had my 6 week PP check today w/ my gyn/OB. I'm 3 pds away from pre-preg weight=) My girlie parts are back to normal except this nasty rash I have on my BB. Dr. thinks I've had an allergic reaction to something so I got some cream to clear it up. Also, I got a RX for BC. I can't believe I'm already thinking about BC again. I've decided to go on the mini-pill since I'm still BF. I considered an IUD, but found out my insurance doesn't cover it and they are expensive. Idon't think it's worth it. I'm really debating taking the pill b/c i hate for DS to get any trace of artificial hormones, but I don't trust DH and I to always use condoms either. AAARRGGGHHHH...I really hate BIG DECISIONS. Any thoughts?
DS went to his new daycare for the first time when I went to the Dr. today. He was there for about 2 hours and seemed to enjoy it. He was asleep when I came back for him! He starts there full time next Monday and I am dreading it. I have broke down in tears multiple times at just the thought of leaving him. It's not that I don't want to go back to work...I actaully do, but I want him to come with me. I just worry he won't get the attention he deserves at daycare, but I guess he will get plenty of attention from me as soon as I get home until bedtime~
BBL for SO's!
vax's: Reece got his first hep. b vax at his three day wbv. He'll get another, next week at his 1 mo. visit.
birth control: I got an Rx for the mini-pill at my 6 week PP after I had Landon and took a couple pills, then we decided "screw it" and just use condoms, the pill was making me dizzy. So, that didn't last long...we used condoms and only a couple of times did we not, and hello Reece. :) I think we'll probably do the same thing this time. No pills...I did that for a long time, and don't really want to ever take the pill again.
princess: Will be thinking of you on Monday. I'm sure Cole will be very well taken care of, but nobody can take your place. I know it must be so hard for you, but I agree with stars, he will be loved, no doubt!!!
Candice- I am glad that Cole did well at daycare. I will be thinking of you and know that he will love his mommy time before and after work- no worries! Congrats on being 3 lbs away! That is terrific. I am 15... Although it is hard to believe that I have lost 20 pounds since I came home from the hospital!
Ranchers- I am glad the infection has cleared up and you are feeling better!
Lady1297- LOL about the monster poop! Zoey didn't have one all day yesterday so this mornings was a doozy... She really can clean herself out!
Birth Control- I am doing the mini pill. We will probably try again to get pregnant this fall/winter so I won't be on it long. I don't trust us to use "barrier methods" very much, and I really don't want to be pregnant again just yet.
Vaccs- Zoey had hers this morning. The Dr. told me at her last appt. to bring some tylenol and so after her four shots and her heel stick I gave her the low dose of Tylenol. I felt so guilty because in addition to the four shots, she also had to have blood drawn so they could check her immune levels because of the medication I take. I was feeling bad because all those cries were because of me... So sad- but it allows me to breast feed so it is worth it I guess. I know she's not scarred for life or anything- it is just a heel stick- but still. I hate to see her cry.
She is sleeping it off right now and probably will for the rest of the day. I am going to my Pokeno group tonight, so daddy is on baby duty. I still hate leaving her, but she will be fine- I just keep telling myself that! :)
Oh her stats for her 2 month appt. today were:
10 lbs 1.5 ozs (40th percentile)
22 inches (50th percentile)
Have a great day girls!
Things are going pretty good here. Samuel has been a bit more fussy lately. I think it may be the 6 week growth spurt. I'm still having BB issues...hoping they heal soon! I thought AF had started the other day, but apparently it was a new round of PP bleeding since it stopped after a few days.
I think I'm going to ask for the mini pill RX at my appointment next week as well. It's too bad there aren't more BC options that work with BF.
Princess-I'm sorry you have to go back to work already. I'm sure Cole will be well taken care of...be sure to take care of yourself.
Boilermaker-My milk supply is more regulated now and I don't feel engorged unless he sleeps a lot longer than normal. I've found it hard to find a time in the day to pump 1x without it getting in the way of feedings (he likes to eat!).
It has been slow around here :) We must all be enjoying our little ones.
Princess, I'm sorry you have to go back to work. I'm not looking forward to that day myself. But your little guy will be fine at daycare.
aloha, see I don't have a problem pumping, and still feeding her 30 min later. I just have WAY too much milk. I guess I don't need that oatmeal i bought in preparation huh? I hope Samuel grows quickly and the fussy stage passes soon.
Michelle, I can't believe we have 2 month olds already! Glad to hear Zoey is doing well!
kim, glad you are feeling better!
BC, my dr actually gave me the script for the pill while in the hospital. I was supposed to start it last week, but I haven't gotten it filled yet. I figure we'll just use condoms until I have been on it for a month. But we'd like to try for #2 in about a year, so I'll only be on it for about 9 months.
So, what are all of you doing for Easter? I feel like a bad mom but I'm not planning to get Payton an Easter basket this year. I went out looking the other day and there wasn't anything I could see putting in it that she would care about. I figure the grandparents will get her something.
Candice ~ Oh my, 3 lbs away from your pre-pregnancy weight? Way to go! I don't have much to go but I have more than 3 lbs. I'll be thinking of on Monday.
aloha ~ Sorry about the fussiness. It might have been AF. Don't be surprised if it starts again soon. That's how I started out after having DD. I thought it was a return of the lochia. It stopped and then came back again in a few days/week later. And that's when it got really heavy.
BC ~ We don't know what we are going to right now. We're pretty sure we are done but part of me dislikes the finality of having something done. Anyone else feel that way?
Easter ~ We are going to get some of the plastic eggs and write on them (hopefully) and use stickers. Then hide them for DD. (DH said something about putting stuff in them so I think we are going to do that as well.) Last year for her first Easter (she was 9 months) we got her a basket, some of the Gerber biscuits, a Pooh Easter DVD, puffs, and a few other small things. My mom also got her a basket and had some stuff for her. She got a bunny basket from her that doubles as a purse. DH's grandparents gave her a large bunny stuffed animal.
For Alex, I'm not sure what we are going to do. I want to get him a basket though. He actually already has his gift and it's outside right now. He has a white bunny. Sarah got a black bunny last year. So we have Thumper (she's white with specks of gray in her fur, has gray ears, gray nose and gray tail) and Charcoal (pure black). I'll have to take a picture and post it. It rained Monday and yesterday was a little cloudy so I didnt' get them taken.
It is slow around these parts lately!
Easter: We always to Easter at my aunts house with the entire fam, and when I say entire, that means 40 people and lots of kiddie's running around everywhere, it's good times! As far as an Easter basket for Reece, I actually hadn't even thought about it, probably a little something, just because his brother will be getting one from "the easter bunny", but to those of you first timers, don't feel bad, there's really nothing for them to enjoy, I'm just doing it because I have to do one anyway! :)
Gotta run, Reece is "calling" me! ;)
Wow, I thought I would have pages to catch up on. I can't get on much anymore with two. We are doing good.
The glue that was used instead of stitches came off today! Finally!!! It has been loose for a while and rubbing me so raw. It is so much more comfortable now.
Mikey has had some sleep problems, but today he was awake a bunch so I am hoping that we get a good night tonight.
easter- We are going to Tulsa so the rest of my fam can meet Cole. I am getting him a basket filled w/ mommy & daddy's favorite candy and maybe a stuffed rabbit. DS did get a new outfit for church and it is adorable!!!
weight loss- It's been easy for me to lose the weight b/c DS is only comforted by 2 things. 1) me walking around while he's in the Bjorn 2) me walking him around in the stroller. When I stop walking he wakes up. Needless to say, I spend a lot of time walking!!!
We are just not having good times around here. Just when I think things are going well, they go bad.
DS1: double ear infection, possible that the left ear tube is obstructed, but the doctor said it was a good sign that there was drainage yesterday that it probably isn't enough fluid back there to drain. He's on Omnicef to clear it. Last infection was January.
John. My John. Girls, I just don't know what to do. He's only up 6 oz in 16 days. It should be more like a pound. I thought he was up much more than that. Doc wants me to supplement. He straight out asked me why I'm so against formula. How do you convince him that I'm not against it, but don't want to use it unless necessary. He just doesn't see it. And I was just to shocked at the lack of weight gain that I just couldn't argue or defend my position. I just told him that I don't want to use formula for many reasons including it making John gassy and the cost. He handed me Enfamil GentleEase and told me to call when we needed more and he'd give us the samples. I know he was meaning well, really, he was. He just wants John to do well, to thrive and get to be a nice chubby baby like I do. I know I'm not happy with him at the moment (the doctor) but he means well. I don't want a doctor that will shine sunshine up my ass just because I ask him to. If I need to supplement I will, but God damn it, I don't want to feel broken anymore. Why can't I just make my boys grow as infants? What am I doign wrong. I just want answers, not formula solutions. Really. I'll use formula if you can prove to me I'm broken. It's been a long couple days...
lady, I'm sending you lots of hugs. Do you have a good LC or a LLL around you that can help you out with getting him to eat more. I know you are over in the BF thread but maybe somebody to work with on a weekly basis would be beneficial. And if you do need to give him the formula, it is ok. You are still a great mom! And he will be just fine. I'm also sorry you're dealing with the ear infections as well.
Speaking of formula, I think there are a few of you on here using it. Does anyone need any coupons? I just keep getting them and would be happy to put them in the mail for whoever wants them. Some of them are pretty good (like $7-8 off). Just send me a PM with your address and what kind of formula you are using.
So, I am a bad mom this morning. Payton was up all night last night..I don't think I got more than 1 hr uninterrupted sleep. So I stuck her in the swing so I could at least have a cup of coffee (my first in 9 months!) and log on to here. I needed some me time! I am so ready for MIL to babysit tomorrow night so DH and I can have a date! And now that Paty takes a bottle no problem, we don't even have to rush home. Woohoo.
boilermaker Just PM'd you in regards to coupons. DD is on Alimentum now and I'm looking for Similac if you have them. This stuff is $$$$$. ENJOY your night out :)
lady So sorry to read that you having such a hard time. Wish I could help you out, but I am here for you to vent! So vent away!
Easter My parents are coming to town. Since my DS is now 2 1/2 and knows what is going on (although he was singing Jinging Bells the other day thinking Santa was coming again), we will do an Easter egg hunt in the backyard.
Weight Loss I have 12 pounds to lose and can't find the energy to even exercise, I'm so tired and frustrated about it. This GUT totally bums me out, it hangs over my jeans like a beer belly.
DD is now on "the champagne of formulas" Alimentum. The poor thing broke out in a very bad rash all over her neck, ears, face and head. Doc. has no idea what it is but figures it was from the Soy. The chunker is 7 weeks old and is 12 pounds now. Still getting up every 3 hours at night and I'M TIRED of BEING TIRED.
Speaking of coffee, I'm going to go and make my third cup! I don't even really love the stuff but it keeps me going.
Hope you girls have a great weekend.
stars, the similac coupon is yours. I'll look around to see if I have more of them (I have tons of stuff like that I haven't even looked at yet)
Don't beat yourself up on the weight. Remember, 9 months on, 9 months off. It will get there. But I do know how you feel. I am so ready to wear normal clothes again. In fact, this weekend I am going to bite the bullet and just go buy some things in a bigger size. Even if I only wear them for a month or 2, I refuse to wear maternity clothes any longer!
Stars: I have a $5 off for Similac coupon, plus some BRU formula coupons. PM me your address and I'll mail them to you.
It seems like I never have time to log on here. Right now, Sophie has a pretty bad diaper rash that we're dealing with. I feel so bad for her. I'm attentive and change her often and am kinda bummed that at 5 weeks, she has such a bad rash. It's only on a little part of her bottom, but is really red and raw. All the daiper rash creams (for treating the rash) have only made it worse. She has a MD appointment today so they can look at it. I'm trying to leave her bottom open to air during at least her long nap (3 hours). Also using towels instead of wipes to clean her and using Lotrimin 4x/day (per her MD) and then using Vaseline instead of A&D, etc. Do any RO have any other advice?
PM'd you about the coupons ... you guys are AWESOME!!!!
As for the diaper rash, my DS has had some killer ones (times where he even screams from them) and I swear by Bordeux's Butt Paste, the stuff is amazing and they sell it at Target. Another great product is Triple Paste (I think Target also has that) if not they usually sell it at drugstores but you have to ask the pharmacist for it, they have it behind the counter even though it is not a script, it's expensive.
Wait and see what the doctor has to say before you go out and spend more money because it could also be a Yeast Infection which my DS gets all the time and I have a script for.
Hang in there.
ladybug, my nephew had killer diaper rashes and the only thing that worked was a prescription cream. My sister said most of the OTC ones would basically "wash off" when he peed, so only the super thick paste ones worked for her. Hopefully your ped can help you out.
I have a feeling this is not going to be a fun day. SO far, all Paty wants to do is move move move. I have her in the bjorn but it is still pretty painful for me to walk this much. By the time I get to physical therapy today, I'm going to be sore!
diaper rash - I also second the Bordeux Butt Paste. I've also had good success with Desitin (sp?). The kind that has the highest zinc oxide.
weight loss - I gained a total of 45 pounds and am still about 15-20 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight and have been that way for the last 2 weeks. Sigh. I don't understand why I haven't lost any in the last few weeks. The good thing is I can fit into my pre-preg clothes, although they are a little tight, I can make them work.
stars - I'm so with you that I'm tired of being tired. We are also only getting 3 hours of sleep at night. He sleeps great during the day, but at night he is up every 3 hours and so hard to get back to sleep.
lady1297 - I'm so sorry to hear about your doctor and him pushing formula on you. I know in the BFing thread I one time found a calculator for weight gain for BF babies. I think it was on Kelly's mom site.
Oh yeah, it's all about the Butt Paste. We haven't had anything severe over here, but that stuff clears any little spot right up for us!
We had Zoey's portraits done today at good ol JCPenny. I was really irritated because our appt. was at 1:30 and when we got there she was in a great mood. Then we waited 1/2 an hour and by then she was pissed. We got about three shots in before she was furious. I nursed her for a bit then she was better, but it took twice as long because they made us wait. She finished the other girl up then spent 20 minutes messing on the computer before she got to us. I wish she would have done the computer stuff after she shot the volitile infant that was waiting... oh well. I hope they turn out okay.
Gotta run, she is screaming again...
Later,
Michelle
Okay, we go from no activity for days to lots of activity today!!
Lady- I am so sorry to hear John hasn't gained enough weight. Is he eating frequently? Do you know how much he's getting when he eats? Maybe, you could express the milk so you know exactly how much he takes. I can't imagine he would gain anymore on formula than he would on BM if given the same amount. Screw your doctor, you are John's momma and you are allowed to decide what is best for him. My doctor looked at me like I was insane when I asked questions about a prescription he worte for DS (as though I should just trust what he says b/c he's a doctor) Feel free to vent away and I will say a little prayer that DS puts on the pounds!
Stars- Are birthday twins are the exact same weight! I can't believe they are 7 weeks today!
ladybug- Butt paste has worked well for us as well. I hope the appt goes well and the DR is cleared up soon!
Boiler- Enjoy your date night!!
Bomb- Must have cross-posted. Sorry for the issues at JCPenny's, the photographer must not have kids b/c if he/she did they would understand that content babies are somewhat of a rare thing and should be captured ASAP!
7 week WBV- Cole's appt was today and everything is going well. His weight and height are increasing as they should, but his head is still a little small. His weight and height have increased from 15th% at birth to the 75th%. WOWZERS!
Vaccinations- He was a little trooper for his vaccinations. I had to let daddy hold him b/c I knew I would cry if I saw him in pain, but DS actually did really well. His legs are a little sore and he occasionally wakes up screaming, but aside from that he seems to be doing well. I gave him Tylenol b/f his appt and have continued to give it to him so he is a pretty sleepy baby.
7 week stats:
Diaper Rash Update: The Dr is now having me use a mix of hydrocortisone cream and Bactroban (to prevent infection) at every diaper change. We just started it last night and it's looking a little better already. He said that he sometimes sees this type of rash w/ breastfed babies, b/c they have more frequent and more loose/watery stools. Add to that the fact that Sophie has pretty sensitive skin anyway. I think we're gonna stop using wipes altogether (except when we're out and about) and just use Viva papertowels like he suggested.
Weight Loss: I'm actually about 8 pounds under what I was pre-pregnancy. I think this is mostly due to stress (we had a major pipe burst about a week after I had Sophie and had to have some extensive home repairs done) and the fact that I've had to completely cut diary out of my diet. Since I started out heavier than I'd have liked, I have another 10-15 pounds to go before I'm at my goal weight.
Rancherswife When I was getting an infection right before Mikey was born the midwife suggested that I try the cranberry pills instead of juice. She said that the juice has a bunch of extra sugar in it that makes it not work as well. They don't have to sweeten the pills so it works better.
We tried sex this weekend. It didn't really hury as long as we used lube, but I am spotting again so no more of that for a while. We had a disruption though since a toddler can sense that they are missing something that they aren't supposed to see, it is a total mood kill when someone comes up and pokes your arm.
We had our 1 month wbv (at 5 weeks today!!!) this morning, here is my chunky man's stats:
height: 23 inches 95th percentile
weight: 10lbs. 11 oz. 75th percentile
head circ.: ummm...hell, I can't remember, but it was 50th %
Yeah, so my little man is thriving quite nicely on his mama's milk! Very good feeling, it's still cracks me up that in five short weeks he has gone from 7lbs. even to a whopping 10lbs. 11oz.! Crazy!!! And yes, I'm sad...he'll be five weeks today at 4:03 p.m., and not a MINUTE before! ;)
Although, this is the one time in her life that thunder thighs are cool (as my june mommy friend says) so I hope she gets a few rolls before it isn't cute anymore!
Danea- I hope you had a great date! Tell me how Blades of Glory is. Will Farrell can be too much for me, but sometimes you need a good belly laugh!
Kat- Hilarious! I am with you, that would really kill the mood. We haven't DTD since the first time, but dh didn't get home until midnight last night. He is going to have to get home earlier if he wants to get some!
Hooray for sleep bombera! Every bit counts even if it doesn't last.
We've been dealing with a diaper rash as well Ladybug. I think he got my sensitive skin. I had such bad diaper rashes that my mom got me potty trained as quickly as possible.
So glad to hear some of you are getting out on dates and DTD. Hopefully we'll be joining you one of these days.
Samuel is spending more time alert with wide open eyes these days. His surprise smiles are so sweet. He does have his fussy inconsolable times usually at the beginning and end of the day which can be so frustrating.
I've been lucky in the weight loss department. Last I checked I was just under my pre-preg weight, but I started out with plenty of extra that I hope to lose with this BF.
Rancher's- Glad to hear momma's milk is doing the trick. I love the rolls as well, they are just too cute!!! I love Cole's double chin and chunky cheeks!
Bomb- Yeah for Sleep. I am back to work now and I can't wait for a full nights sleep. I can't complain though, Cole only wakes up once in the night and once he eats he's right back to sleep (KNOCK ON WOOD). Last night, I fell asleep during his feeding, but it was only for a split second and I woke back-up =) ITA w/u on Will Ferrrell, sometimes he's a little much!
Aloha- Yeah for the Weight Loss! Sorry to hear about the Diaper rash, I hope it clears up soon!
Daniels- I hear ya girl, a baby crying in the background really kills the moment...I can't even imagine a curious toddler. DH never thought we could DTD w/ DS in the room, but it's amazing how quickly he changed his mind when it came time ; )
I had yummy Mexican food for lunch! It is so nice not to have heartburn after everything you eat!
Cole did well at daycasre yesterday. The caretaker doesn't think he naps enough, but IMO he seems to be doing fine. He doesn't take long naps instead he takes several 20-30 minute naps throughout the day and then sleeps at night.
I'm so glad to hear my child isn't the only one that has a fussy period. Cole is pretty cranky from about 7-10. He would eat the whole time if I would let him. Hopefully, the crankiness will go away soon!
We had A's 2 month WBV today. Everything went very well. He is gaining, all be it slowly, so that's good. We got a script for some reflux medicine to see if it helps with his spitting up. He isn't sure about the noises he makes when he breathes sometimes. We go back in 2 wks to see if he's spitting up as much.
He also got his 5 shots. He cried but not too bad.
2 month stats (at 2.5 months):
Weight: 9lbs, 12oz
Length: 22 3/4 inches
HC: 15 cm
He is in the 10th percentile for all stats. We told the ped that he is still in preemie clothes and newborn diapers. He was a little surprised but said he's gaining so not to worry.
Today he has a fever (101.6 last I checked) so we are taking it easy today.
Bombera Fantastic to read that you finally had some sleep. My DD daughter actually slept from 9:30 until 3:00 and I feel like a new person today. Poor thing had her 3 month shots yesterday and spent the afternoon crying, she was worn out :(
Ranchers WOWZA what is in your milk? That is awesome.
2 month stats
As mentioned above, my DD did horribly with the shots yesterday. I gave her tylenol before and again after and she cried so hard for almost 3 hours on and off. The afternoon was horrible but my night was good, she only got up once.
Other then that I started selling baby items on ebay. When you guys are done with your pumps, sell them on ebay, they are a HOT HOT HOT item. Almost got what I paid for it 3 years ago.
Fussy Period: OMG, so I'm not the only one with a fussy baby? Last night, Sophie cried for 2 hours straight. I tried everything and NOTHING worked. The night before, she cried for an hour. How is it that baby goes from being sweet & happy in the morning to screaming bloody murder at night?
Sleeping: Keeping my fingers crossed, but Sophie seems to be sleeping in longer stretches at night. For the past 3 nights, she's only gotten up twice. Last night, she was up at midnight to eat. She woke up around 3 grunting and gassy, but fell back asleep. The she was up around 6 to eat. I sure hope this continues.
DPAngel: Love how they give you such specific directions. When I tried reintroducing diary, I started with just a little. I had toast for breakfast and cheese on a veggie burger. DS slept through the night last night!!! Previously when he woke up at 3:30-4 I would immediatley feed him, but now I try soothing him for a bit and it is seeming to do the trick. I've been feeding him at 9 and then again at 11pm, so his tummy is super full when I lay him down and I think it lasts him through the night(fingers crossed).
daniel's: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I picked up the pills yesterday at the grocery store and they've really helped! Amazing! Good thing, since it was starting to get really painful again and my OB is gone for the week...
Ben reminds me of Landon, Landon wedged himself between our bed and the wall and could.not get out, then started freaking out...um, yeah, our bed is a bit heavy for me to move on my own and of course this happened when Brett was still at work! Figures! It was quite a mess...that happened a couple of weeks ago, he hasn't done it since, thank the LORD!
princess: YAY Cole for sleeping through the night! That's great!!! :)
Hi everyone! Glad to hear everyone is doing so well...I'm checking in every once in a while, though it's harder to find time to post.
AF - not yet, not looking forward to it.
Question re bedtimes: About what time (generally, I'm sure it varies) are you putting your babies to sleep at night? Right now we're tending to do it around 11:30pm, though last night we got her down at 10:15pm. I've been reading Weissbluth and he says that bedtimes should be starting to get earlier, but it's hard for me to figure out when it should be.
Somewhat related question re baths: How often are you all bathing your babies? I know they only need shampoo/soap about every three days, but do you do water baths on the other nights? When do they start getting nightly baths? We were thinking about starting a nightly bath as part of a bedtime routine, but last night threw us off because she went down for the night so much earlier than usual. Are you all trying to do bedtime routines or do you just put the baby down when he or she seems tired?
AF-I mentioned that I thought it might have started. I went to the Dr and she thought either my uterus hadn't fully contracted or I have a slight infection so I've been taking medication to contract the uterus and clear up any potential infection. I go back in a week to see if it's cleared and see if I can continue regular activity.
Bedtimes-We usually start between 8-9 PM, but sometimes it takes a while for him to get to sleep and it's 10 before he gets to sleep. We have a few routine things we do like DH singing the same song each night. I'd like to gradually move towards more of a routine.
Bath-We give him one about once to twice a week. We aren't doing a nightly bath yet. We've been too exhausted and don't want to dry out his skin too much. I've heard it suggested as a good thing to do.
Bedtimes- We havent really started any sort of routine yet either...I try to get her to eat between 10-11pm right before I usually go to bed.
Bath We usually do this about 2-3 times a week. Sometimes in between I use those Huggies Washcloths and will just kinda sponge bathe her, especially if shes had a lot of spit up that day. I want to start doing nightly though because Ive noticed it really does calm her down since she is usually fussy between 6-9pm. We might start doing nightly ones in a few weeks to try to get into more of a routine with bed and bath.
Back from my 6 week PP appt., all is well. I go back in four months for my annual.
bedtime: Strangely enough, I don't know HOW on earth this has worked out, but since the second night home, he's gone down same time as Landon. We've got a little routine worked out. I nurse Reece while dh bathes Landon, I put Landon down after bath, and dh rocks or sits with Reece and when Landon's to bed, usually takes about 5-10 mins. Reece is usually asleep or almost asleep.
bath: This makes me laugh, when we had Landon, I bathed him everyday...without fail! Reece goes about 3 days between baths.
Waving hello! Hope you all had nice First Easter/Passover weekends!
bedtime I feel kind of guilty, but no, we don't have a ritual. M goes down at about 12:30 (I know, it's late!).
bathing I bathe M about every 4 or 5 days. I will bathe him more often when he starts to crawl- I hear they get filthy then, which makes sense to me!
Update We went back to the orthopedist today. One of M's hips is better, but the other is still out of joint, so he'll have another 3 weeks in the brace (he's been in it a month so far). He hates it, so I am bummed, but it's better than surgery so I'll take it. He has his 3 month WBV tomorrow- I know from weighing him at home he's already over 13 pounds :D
I am still pumping- yaay me! I am going to extend the hospital rental- my original goal was 3 months. I am getting better at pumping in the car too- I use a nursing shawl and it's not that bad.
Oh, and I extended my back to work time 2 weeks, so I won't be going back until next Monday. I just wanted a little more time with him!
QOTD- DS goes to bed around 11pm-11:30pm. He usually sleeps until 6am or he wakes up at 4ish and wants a small snack. I'm a scheduled person by nature so DS is on a pretty good routine.
Bath- Every 3 days right now, but he enjoys them so much I am thinking of increasing it to every other day.
Labride- Yeah for pumping!! I'm so sorry to hear M has to wear the brace 3 more weeks, but you're right it is a lot better than surgery.
I love all the Easter pics. We have some adorable babies!!!
QOTD
Baths, I give her one every 3 days and I wash her face every morning since she spits up so much. If she has a big blowout or ended up sleeping in a poopy diaper, I'll clean her up after that as well.
Bedtime, we start putting her to bed right around 9:00 and it doesn't take too long for her to be asleep after nursing. She's going longer and longer stretches ( had a 6 hr one the other night!) without waking, so I'm pretty happy with her sleep habits.
Another question, are any of you putting them in their cribs? Payton sleeps in a bassinet in our room right now but I'd like her to be in the crib by the time I go back to work. So I need to start transitioning her before too long.
jenjen0713
baths - We give one every 3 days. Even our 18 month old only gets a bath every 3 days, unless he is really dirty and stinky. :rolleyes:
bedtime - Slowly, a schedule is starting to emerge for us. He usually has his last meal around 9-10 and then the last few nights has slept for a 5 hour stretch.
crib sleeping - We had DS in a bassinet in our room for the first three weeks and one night just put him in his crib. We did swaddle him the first few nights so he wouldn't seem so overwhelmed in it. I need to work on getting him to take his naps in there as well instead of the swing or sling.
Advice needed: DS won't sleep anywhere but in my arms. 9 out of 10 times, I love the excuse, but I'd like to get him used to somewhere else. He'll last abput 5 minutes in the bouncer or swing. Ideas?????????????????
la_bride_2004
sleeping DS sleeps in the bassinet at night- I just like having him close to us. He'll sleep anywhere- the crib, the pack n play, the swing, the carseat, etc. If he's tired, he'll sleep!
lady If I am holding DS and transfer him somewhere else to sleep, sometimes he'll sometimes wake up and cry for a minute or two, but if I leave him there, he'll go right back to sleep. Have you tried waiting just a little? You can probably also tell what kind of cry it is- I know with M he has a "fussy" cry versus a "needs" cry.
3 month WBV
Weight: 14 lbs (75%)
Heigh: 23 in (23%)
He got more vaccines (my ped splits them monthly) so it'll be a long night tonight! She said it's fine to keep him on soy for the first year since he's mainly getting EBM, which was a big relief! He is allergic to dairy like me, and I could not get the hypoallergenic formula down. It smells awful! He likes the soy though. She also filled out the forms for daycare- he starts the last week of this month.
Whoops, gotta go!
Lady-Our guy much prefers to sleep on us too, but is gradually getting better at sleeping in the swing, crib, etc. What's worked best for me is wearing/nursing him in the pouch so I can do things while he sleeps and then I put him down after 20-30 mins. I've read that babies don't get into deep sleep for 20 mins. I'm much less patient when he falls asleep in my arms and I try to put him down too soon and he wakes right up.
Zoey likes to pull that "won't sleep anywhere but in my arms" during the day as well. I have given in and just rested with her for a long afternoon nap, but fortunately she sleeps pretty well on her own at night. I have found that it is much easier to get her to sleep if she is swaddled. We use one of those swaddle blankets and I just bought a larger one today because she will be growing out of the small on soon.
Oh, I am about ready to have Zoey in her own room. DH and I were DTD the other morning and she started to wake up, I think it is time for her to be on her own! :p
We went to the pedi today to do a blood test (because I am bfing and taking some questionable meds) and she was so mad the whole time. I told the Dr. that she has been chewing on her hands, seriously chewing, and is really fussy lately. She said she is pretty young, but it could be teething and then she looked at her gums and said that yes, she was teething and that her gums were swollen! At 10 weeks? Seriously, why now? Oh well, I guess we have to go through it sometime, so I suppose we are just getting this first round over with early. I hope they don't take too long to break through.
I had a fun day after that going to BRU and returning a bunch of stuff and buying a shower gift for a friend and a bunch of stuff for Zoey and still having store credit left! Yippee!
After that we went to a Cry Baby Matinee with Danea and some other Dallas moms. We missed you Candice! It was fun, there were a bunch of moms there and they leave the lights low so you can nurse and they even had a changing table there! We watched Rein Over Me the new Adam Sandler movie. It was good, but if you go, take tissue!
Oh, I have a major JOY to report. I was seriously stressed about what staying home would do to our finances throughout this whole pregnancy. I knew my husband would either have to get a 20% raise or get a new job so that we could pay our bills with me staying home. I didn't think there was ever any way he would get a raise that huge, but last Wednesday he told me that they gave him a 30% raise! I could't believe it. They knew he would have to leave if he didn't get a big raise, so they essentially bought him out so he wouldn't go anywhere else. I thought that was such a big testament to how much they like him there. I was so proud of him and now I don 't have to lose sleep over our budget. We aren't going to be living like kings or anything, but at least we won't have to go into debt! I am so happy... :)
I will post some easter pics of Zoey just as soon as I find the camera docking station... :)
QOTD:How many naps is your baby taking each day? And how long is each nap? Sophie is starting to fight being put down for naps but then is super cranky by the end of the day.
QOTD: Naps Sophie refuses to nap on her back or side during the day. If i put her down like that, she's up within the hour. The only way to get her to stay down is to put her on her tummy. Any advice?
Lady: I usually try to wait a full 20 min before I put Sophie down. By then, she's in a deep sleep and won't wake up. If I want her to nap in her swing, I'll put her in there awake but sleepy. I have her bundled up w/ a paci. i'll put the swing on setting 2 or 3 (speed-wise). According to Happiest Baby On The Block, the slowest setting is too slow to keep them sleep, and I've found that to be true.
QOTD:How many naps is your baby taking each day? And how long is each nap?
Samuel generally takes 3-5 naps a day with several of them being short cat naps (10 mins-1 hour). His longer naps tend to be around 2-3 hours each and happen most often in the early afternoon. I have often heard sleep begets sleep and found that to be true. He sleeps better on future naps/night if he sleeps longer at each nap and doesn't get overtired.
QOTD: Naps Sophie refuses to nap on her back or side during the day. If i put her down like that, she's up within the hour. The only way to get her to stay down is to put her on her tummy. Any advice?
Sorry no real advice. I'd say to put her in the position that works for her to get some sleep. I put Samuel on his side yesterday and he moved to his tummy and it worried me too much to leave him that way. Of course he woke up when I moved him to his back and I thought...I should have just left him the way he was and kept an eye on him.
qotd#1: Reece is not really on any kind of napping sched. yet. He snoozes off and on all day, I really haven't counted. But in hours, I would say in a 12 hour period he sleeps about 9 of those 12.
qotd#2: I would say, as long as you're in there with her or checking on her often, let her sleep on her tummy during the day, if that's how she sleeps best. :)
Jenna isnt really on a napping schedule yet either...It depends on if we stay home all day or wether we go out too.
I let Jenna sleep on her tummy during the day because she definitely sleeps longer like that. I just check on her a lot. At night I put her on her side and she does okay or she actually sleeps in her carseat quite a bit. Its kinda like the tummy I guess...she sleeps really good in it. I think it might have to do with her reflux too. The upright position?...
PrincessCJ81
QOTD: Cole isn't on a napping schedule that I set, he's just made his own. He sleeps in the morning when I drop him off at DC for about an hour and then he sleeps from 11am-1pm and then 2pm-3pm or 4pm. He doesn't sleep again until about 9:00 when he goes to bed. Altogether he sleeps approx. 13-15 hours a day.
Sleeping on tummy: If you can keep an eye on DC I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if baby seems to have decent head control and can move head from side to side. I still wouldn't allow it at night when you are sleeping, but during the day I think you are fine.
We aren't giving formula against the doctors recommendation, though, so we are kinda asking for a low gain again. But I just can't see giving him formula when I then end up engorged for hte next feeding or pump out the same amount he eats from a bottle. Seems stupid to me. Guess the doctor will be mad at me I'm sure, but whatever.
Hi everyone. The Easter pictures are adorable. I'll try and get some of us posted soon.
Naps ~ No real schedule but he usually takes an afternoon nap between 2 and 4. I didn't have DD on a schedule. I just let them decide their own. Some days he goes to sleep for 15 minutes awake for 30 minutes then back to sleep again and repeat that.
Tummy Time ~ He spends a good deal of time on his tummy laying on me. I can only put him on his tummy when I'm sitting directly next to him or close because DD won't really leave him alone.
Reflux meds ~ We started meds for it earlier this week (after they finally got it in). It was a hassle to get and very expensive. Bad thing what we don't use in 30 days we have to throw out. I'll probably cry when that happens given how much it was. He is doing better now and we go back in two weeks to see what the doc says.
I can only put him on his tummy when I'm sitting directly next to him or close because DD won't really leave him alone.
hmm..this sounds all too familiar to me!!! This also applies to the swing, bouncy and anything else Landon can "get to." Thus why the bouncy typically stays on our counter, he only swings when Landon naps or is out w/ Daddy or at my parents, and is RARELY on his little play mat...Oh, our curious little toddlers!!! :)
Hi everyone... we're here... sorry to be MIA..Madilyn is already almost 3 months now. we went in for her 2 month check up and she was 11.7lbs. She's got rolls upon rolls...lol.. she's my little chunky monkey... Everythign is going good here, she's starting to sleep more at night. about 5-7 hours which is just awesome for mommy. We joined some playgroups, so that's why I'm hardely home ever... also we go shopping almost daily.. :D i will load up some pictures of her, she's already changing so much.... We ended up switching her ped's, I really wish I had been able to go in and talk with her old one first, I don't think I woul have stayed with them as long. madi is still being breastfeed, which I think is going "pretty" good. I still have to give her formula sometimes and et me tell you that's been a fight in it's own. Her ped's dr has changed her 4 times. She has some type of allergy to milk based stuff..so now finally we're back to the soy and we're sticking it out there. She developed a rash on her face and body due to the milk formula but now that were on Soy it's soooo much better. She's still one very gassy baby, but the drops seem to help with that. We have a baby educator come out to our home every month to see how she's meeting her milestones. well she's a pro. she sooo alert, and already showing signs of wanting to talk... it's just so amazing. She really doesnt like her swing, but tolerates it for about 20 minutes then she's starts screaming, and let me tell you, she's got some lungs on her..lol..well that's about it.. let me go and upload some pictures.
2 week: 8.6lbs, 20 inches
1 month: 9.8lbs, 21 inches
2 month: 11.7lbs, 23 inches
next visit not until 4 months old.
She's now wearing 3-6 months clothes..lol
e'sprincess: Good to hear from you!!! Madi is adorable and it sounds like she's doing great. :) That's wonderful. Thanks for sharing all the pics., very cute.
2 mo. wbv: Oh gosh, I can't remember, but if you have the "what to expect the first year" they give a list of what they'll ask re: milestones, etc. each month...but at the moment, I can't remember from Landon's! ;)
We have a wedding to attend tomorrow, outside and it's suppose to be really windy and rainy, sounds like fun eh? I was looking forward to it, until I saw the weather report...My parents are keeping Landon and Reece. I've been pumping like mad, and hope to enjoy a little cocktail while I'm out. :)
Hope everyone has a great weekend with their babes!!!
ranchers ~ Yeap, gotta love the toddlers. Most of the time DD is such a big help. She even gets me the diaper, wipes and then throws it away. In fact if I don't let her throw away the dirty diaper she gets mad.
Jen ~ So good to hear from you. DS is also on soy formula due to similar reactions. She's getting so big!
I don't know what happened last night but Hailey slept for 8.5 hours straight!!! I don't know if I like this or not because I woke up in pain since she didn't eat. Hopefully my supply will even out and it won't be so bad :)
Hi girls, just wanted to pop in and say that I'm catching up on you all and I am LOVIN the Easter pics of your babes.
I have not had much time to post because I have been bitten by the e-bay bug and spend my free time selling stuff. It truly is a great way to make $$$ out of stuff lying around that will never be used again. I've made over $400.00 already :)
My husband thinks I'm nuts.
I went to this AWESOME women's seminar the other night that was all about Women's Overall Health & Hormones. She did say something interesting I wanted to pass along.
"No Children under the age of 5 should be eating Strawberries because of the pesticides sprayed on them".
One of my DS favorite things to eat, I guess I'll be buying organic now.
Still waiting for AF over here. Not sure what is going on, I did have a tubal and I've heard that sometimes you need to go on the pill to "jump start" things.
Emma is doing great. Still up every 3-4 hours a night for feedings :( I'm one tired MOMMA over here.
This thread is busy again :) It is good to see that everyone is doing pretty well and that all our babies are cute as a button. I think we have some of the most beautiful babies around, but I might be a little biased.
Going back to the QOTD, Payton also prefers to sleep on her stomach. I let her for naps where I am around to make sure she is ok. And I swaddle her at night, which helps. She most definitely does not like to sleep flat on her back, so she is still sleeping in the carseat. I asked the ped about it at our 1 month WBV and she was fine with that.
This week hasn't been super fun. I had a pretty bad sinus infection that I am just finally starting to get over..and I think I gave some of my congestion to Paty. So she has been super clingy and fussy the past couple of days. I feel horrible about it, but it's not like I can avoid her for a week. I tried to wash my hands constantly (they are actually red from washing them so much) but it didn't matter. I guess I should get used to it, after all, kids do get sick right?
On the plus side, we ordered my new car this week. We couldn't find the exact one we wanted and since we don't "need" it right away, we just decided to order one. So it should be here in 3-8 weeks. We got the new Ford CUV, the Edge. I really like it and am so excited about not struggling to get the stroller in and out of the trunk.
I'm jealous of all of you who get to SAH. I am soo hoping to be able to work out a part time position when I go back. I can't imagine not spending so much time with my baby. She is just such a joy to be with.
Mikey slept all night! I closed my thumb in the door of the truck last night so I left him in the carseat for a while since once it stopped hurting (sorta) it was almost time for him to wake up, but he didn't until 7:30! He slept for 10 hours. I hadto pump this morning since he couldn't finish all of one side, I gave up at about 5 1/2 ounces since I didn't feel like getting another bottle.
boiler I hope you guys feel better soon!
Weight update!
John has gained 10 oz in 2 weeks, which for him is fabulous and it is also with the 'normal' range for a breastfeeding baby his age, albeit the low end of normal!! So we are happy and the doctor was impressed that he did it without formula as am I! I would have liked to have seen more, but I'll take it!
So, our 2 month update:
Height: 21 1/2 inches (2 weeks 21 inches)
Weight: 9lbs 4 oz (Birth 7lbs 12 oz)
In other news, I had the BEST time with John last night! We sat on the sofa and sang nursery rhymes for about 45 minutes!! He was SOOOO interactive! He seemed to like Pat-a-cake the best (It's DS1's favorite so he's probably thinking, "Hey! I know that one!"!) followed by The Itsy-Bitsy Spider! OMG! It was a fun time! Then this morning he wanted more I guess, at 6:30 am! How did I get the kids who like to rise and shine early????? DS1 and hubby were still asleep and here I am entertaining a two month old! I did get diapers put away (we cloth diaper) though while we sang nursery rhymes again. He had his 4 shots today and is sound asleep on my boob right now! Silly boy!
lady- Awesome news about John!!!
Too funny about the nursery ryhmes, DS isn't in to nursery ryhmes, but he loves the drums. Worship was super loud yesterday and I figured it would wake DS up, but he slept through the whole thing and only fussed when the band finished =)
Princess- DS1 LOVED it when Mass was LOUD! He would snuggle in, fall asleep and smile the whole time! Now, he loves to beat on anythign that resembles a drum. Guess I have a drummer-to-be on my hands! And thanks!
Daniels..That same situation happened to me last week with Jenna...She fell asleep when we left my moms house at 7pm and when we got home I just left her in her carseat and went to bed because I knew she would be up soon after to eat...well she slept until 6am!
Jenna had her 2 month check up today..
She was 9lbs 7oz (7lbs 2oz at birth)
and 22 inches (20 inches at birth)
We were in for our 2 month visit as well. Samuel took the shots okay and has been sleeping most of the time since we've been back. He's up to 11 lbs and 22" long.
It's been so fun watching Samuel get into playing--batting toys around, looking at himself in the mirror, cooing and squiggling his arms and legs all over the place. I was even able to read him a few books without him crying the whole time.
Wow...what fun to have surprise STTN Daniel's & Aug2002. Great job feeding John Lady.
2 month update:
Weight: 10lb 13oz (6lb 6oz at birth)
Height: 22in (18 in at birth)
Truthfully, I'm not 100% convinced about her weight. This is the same nurse that told me my baby was 17 pounds at her 2 week visit. :rolleyes: I think she's more around the 9 pound range. I will weigh her again when I stop in at work tomorrow. She did okay w/ her shots. Had a little meltdown while they were giving them to her and then cried on and off for about 10 minutes. Was a little cranky last night but seems to feel better this morning. I think DH and I took it harder than she did. ;)
I just have to say that I'm sooo excited!!! A while back I posted about how Sophie would only sleep on her tummy. Well, this morning I positioned her on her side (a specific method as described in Happiest Baby on the Block) and she's been asleep for 1.5 hours. Usually she's up within 15 minutes. I hope this continues today. Then maybe she can transition out of our bed and back in to her PNP. Whooo Hoooo!!:D
ladybug- Glad to hear the WBV went well!
Jenah- Hello! Glad you stopped by!
Things are going well here DS is STTN which is fantastic. he is still stopped up, which sucks!!! Sometime I wake him up and hold him in the night just so he can be upright, poor little guy sounds terrible when he's on his back too long. We tried a pillow under his mattress, but he just rolls down to the flat area. The weather is warming up so hopefully this will all be gone soon =)
QOTD-I'm starting to look at preschools for when DS is a little older, for RO's at what age is a structured curriculum important? I don't mean all day learning just specific objectives that the kids are working on (sign language, music, reading time, etc...)
bombera77
04-19-2007, 04:53 PM
Candice- Sorry to hear that little Cole is still stopped up! That is no fun at all. Funny about him sliding down the mattress though...
Lady- That is great that she is sleeping in longer stretches. DD only wanted to nap while being held, but I have discovered that swaddling her and then putting her in the swing causes her to sleep for about 3-4 hours in the afternoon! Amazing! I love it. I actually get stuff done now...
Jenah- Hi! Thanks for stopping in!
I am just about finished with Zoey's bedding. We put her room together, but we still aren't done sanding and staining the cabinet doors and I still need to paint the trim, but aside from that, it looks good. I still need to decorate the walls a bit, but I love the way the crib and bedding look. We even moved her cradle into her room on Tuesday and she slept in her own room for the first time Tuesday night. It was kind of sad, but she did well. Last night was even better. She got up around 2, then slept again in her room until 6, then ate, was up for a bit and then slept (with me :)) until 10. We had a nice restful morning. Momma feels good!
I will post a picture of her bedding as soon as my dh brings the camera home.
I finished the first coat of paint on her name letters for the wall. Now I just have to wait for that to dry and paint circles and stripes on them in a different color and then I can put those up. I know that I have taken forever to get her room done, but in the end I think I am really going to like it. She doesn't seem to mind that it is taking me forever, so why should I worry, right?
Well, I need to unload the dishwasher before she wakes up, so I gotta run!
Michelle
Quick Rant... DH just called at 8:30 pm to tell me that IL's are coming over tomorrow morning and staying until Sat afternoon. Umm, Okay... I had plans for tomorrow. I am having a friend and her baby over to hang out and teach her how to use her sewing machine. I guess it will be nice to have MIL watch Zoey while I hang out with Jennifer, but still, just because I stay home doesn't mean that I don't have a life too... They could have given me more than 12 hours notice or at least asked if I was busy... Oh well. Sorry, just had to vent. Am I being unreasonable to expect a little more notice?
rancherswife
04-20-2007, 07:30 AM
bombera: Yeah, that would tend to annoy me too. But, at least, like you said, you'll have MIL there to help with Zoey, while you help your friend learn to sew! :)
I cannot believe Reece will be 8 weeks old on Monday, the time is going by way.too.fast!!!
baby acne: Reece is having a little bout with the baby acne, anyone else dealing with this? I remember Landon got it too, around the same time and it passed after a couple of weeks.
jenah: Hi! Thanks for checking in. :)
Well...it's nasty rainy here today, so we'll be cooped up in the house! Good times. We have another wedding this weekend, thank goodness, this one is indoors! :)
Bombera: That's great that you were able to transition Zoey to her own room. I told myself that Sophie would be in her own room by 8 weeks, and here we are, nowhere near close to that goal. Can't wait to see pics of her room. Yep, I'd definitly be irritated about the IL situation. Wednesday, I'd signed up to attend a seminar at BRU about Colic. It was at 7pm, so DH would be home and I could leave Sophie w/ him. Of course, at 5pm, he calls to tell me he's staying late to work on his brother's car. So much for my plans. :rolleyes:
Rancher'sWife: Sophie had a bout w/ baby acne. I wound up washing her face w/ Ivory soap once a day and it got a lot better.
Wow, so much to catch up on!
DS had his 2 month appt this week. He got 3 shots and the rotavirus vaccination. He still has a partially clogged tear duct and if it isn't better by 4 months, we will have to take him to the eye doctor to get it unclogged.
Here's his stats:
Weight-10lbs 10oz (40%th)
Height-24 1/2 inches (95th)
The mastitis bug got me last week. Geez, that really kicks you in the arse. Luckily the antibiotics started to kick in within a couple days and I'm back to feeling well.
For the last two weeks, DS has been giving us 5-6 hours of sleep at night! I can handle only getting up once at night. Also, I laid him down drowsy twice this week and he actually feel asleep on his own. Now, last night it didn't go so well, but at least I know he can fall asleep on his own without me rocking him to sleep.
Has anyone returned back to work yet? I have 2 more weeks of leave and then back to work. :(
JenJen, Sorry about the Mastitis, that really sucks. Glad you are feeling better though.
Ranchers- Zoey had some baby acne and Aveeno Hydrocortizone cream took it away in 1 DAY! It was amazing. I probably used it every other day after that for a week or two to keep it at bay, but I was surprised at how fast it went away. My friend's Dr. told her to use that stuff, so I figured it would be safe. It is just at the stores in a tan tube with a red cap. Check it out, I promise, it helps!
bombera: Thanks! I'm going to run out and get some today. Since, after a week, it seems to be getting worse, instead of starting to clear up. I feel bad for him, I know it doesn't hurt him, but still. It's sad, that they go from this silky soft skin to rough little red bumps, his seems to get better while he's asleep and not rubbing around on me or however is holding him. Landon's cleared up after a week...so, hopefully, this will do the trick. I'll let ya know! :)
Hi Moms-
It has taken me several days to catch up with all the posts and several days to find some quiet time to actually post. I've been away so long due to 2 deaths in the family, my mother being here for 3 weeks, a trip to my home town to introduce Ben to the rest of my family, DH being away for 3 weeks and having work done on our house. Plus our internet is so stupid and we can barely keep a connection. DH is changing our service so we can stop all the crap.
Ben had a WBV a week ago at 8w 3d. His stats:
13.6 lbs (7.1 lbs at birth)
23 1/4 in. long (19 in at birth)
Ben is doing great. He took the shots really well and slept the better part of two days. DD is a whole other story. Note to self: Never take both kids to the ped and schedule shots. Alone. What a nightmare.
Ben is an extremely content little guy. He's either eating, sleeping or just hanging. He hardly ever cries (unless hungry or has a dirty diaper). He started to give us some smiles a couple weeks ago and has the occasional giggle (which I have yet to hear). He's extremely serious and it's hard to gauge his mood sometimes. It's rather funny.
Breastfeeding is totally done here. Ben quit nursing a couple weeks ago and I was pumping. Well, the trip to my parent's house (6 hour drive which I did alone with both kids) was extremely stressful for me and with DH being gone for 3 weeks, my barely there supply just kept going downhill. DS would scream after getting strictly breastmilk and the only way to cut my diet was to quit eating. I don't eat a lot of dairy and don't eat/drink any caffeine. I barely have time to eat most days. I also put DS on soy formula as Good Start was making him cry for about 30 minutes after every feeding. Within 3 days DS was a completely new baby. I couldn't believe it.
Sorry to hear about those with mastitis. I've heard it's just awful. Glad to hear the babies are growing and thriving like crazy!!
OK, I'm going to get this posted before it times out and then post my birth story. What there is of it.
MrsSki
04-23-2007, 09:55 AM
OK, here's my birth story:
I went for my weekly OB appt on Feb. 14th. DH went because we had had a nasty snow storm and I wasn't interested in driving in foul weather 9 months pg in my junk heap.
The appt was uneventful but the OB was concerned due to feeling around that DS was going to be overly big. I wasn't dialated and was having very few contractions. He said that he could induce me on Saturday the 17th if I wanted. I talked to DH and we both agreed to just do it.
My entire family and one incredibly inconsiderate Aunt drove out on Friday to be here for the birth so DH and I spent all day Friday food shopping, buying a sleeper sofa and getting ready for the induction the following day. I had been having some small, inconsistent contractions and was just feeling gross. Friday around dinnertime, I started to loose my mucus plug and the contractions were still inconsistent but a bit stronger. Enough to make me VERY tired. I was hoping for a somewhat good night's sleep, but DD was having a bad reflux problem and kept us up most of the night. Plus we had 5 extra people in our house and everyone was snoring.
The induction was scheduled to start at 8am. I got admitted and met my nurse and got settled. She got me changed and in bed and checked me. I had dialated to 2 cm in those couple days. I couldn't believe it. Because I had Group B Strep, she wanted to get me going with the antibiotics before they started the pitocin. She started that and get me hooked up on the fetal monitor. I was having regular contractions by that time but they weren't very strong and I had lost my entire mucus plug by that point.
My OB came in shortly after the antibiotics were being administered to break my water. It was around 11am by this time. No pitocin had been given and the contractions were getting a bit stronger. He went to break my water and wouldn't you know it.....I had no amniotic fluid. I couldn't believe it and started to get a bit scared. He put a scalp monitor on DS's head as he was moving around so much that they couldn't get a good reading of his HB. OB was totally digging around with his hook trying to break my water because he couldn't believe I didn't have any either. I thought I was dying. Once he was satisfied that he wasn't going to get any more fluid he let the nurse get my cleaned up and more comfortable. They asked if I was ready for the epidural and I said no. I wanted to wait a bit longer. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I held out until about 12:30 and was in so much pain I couldn't believe it. From what the nurse said, I had barely had 1/4 tsp of pitocin. She said that my body was progressing naturally and totally stopped the pit drip. They gave me the epidural and I felt great for about 15 minutes. My entire butt and legs were totally numb but I was feeling every single contraction. About 1:30 I couldn't take it any more. The nurse got the anesthesiologist and by 2:15 she was back and was topping me off. I felt the contractions but not so bad and was just dozing lightly when the nurse came in to check me about 3:00. She said I was fully dialated and was going to get the OB. He was next door delivering another baby.
I had no urge to push and told them so. I was still feeling the contractions but I could talk through them and everything pubic bone and below was totally numb. My OB came it, lifted up the sheet and said "OMG, his head is right there!". We had been watching CNN and had a 5 minute conversation about Britney Spears and her shenanigans while he was getting all ready to deliver Ben. He lifted the sheet, told me to push and after 2 pushes, Ben came out screaming like a banshee. He was so little!!! I was totally expecting a big turkey. Once they took the baby to clean him up, my OB started the rest of the clean up process. I asked him how many stitches and he said "two". And then he said that it was to bad I wasn't going to have any more babies. He said that I was his best patient because I had no complications during either pg and birthing took very little time and effort. Yeah, well, I can't afford to have any more children and I'm extremely happy with two.
We went home the next day and things have been great ever since. At my 6 week pp visit, I was 6 pounds under my pre-pg weight. I also had an IUD inserted. OMG, it was excrutiating. But I'm glad I did it.
I go back to work next week and am looking forward to getting back into a routine. We've just been doing whatever, whenever and DD has been totally out of wack and being a little devil. I'm totally enjoying my time with my babies and am going to miss them terribly during the day, but I know that they are getting the same care I would give them with my sitter so I'm not worried.
QOTD: How has your relationship with your DH weathered the new kid in the family? Share what's worked.
We've done fairly well, but reached a breaking point this weekend that resulted in a much needed conversation about baby care & chores. It's so hard to make sure we get our personal/couple time and have all Samuel's needs met. We don't have family nearby or other babysitters so we need to work on that.
Ranchers Samuel had a bad case of baby acne around 4-5 weeks and it healed up on its own. Definitely not idea for baby pictures!
JenJen...So sorry you had to deal with mastitis.
MrsSki Congrats on getting under your pre-pregnancy weight.
8 weeks today!
QOTD: With Reece things are SO.MUCH different (better, that is.;)) I actually should say easier, having Landon was a huge adjustment to our relationship. I was actually shocked and not prepared for anything to change (dumb on my part). Brett and I have been together for almost 12 years (we started dating when I was 14, yes, we were H.S. sweethearts!) we were married for 4 years when Landon came along, and then when Landon was 3 weeks old, my perfectly healthy 25 year old husband rolled over one night in bed, while I was up nursing and had two MAJOR seizures. It was the scariest time in my life and I had NO.CLUE what to do. Here I was holding this three week old, that I was still learning how to take care of, and I was certain my husband was dying right there in our bed. So....we then were dealing with tests, dr. visits, CT scans, MRI's, EEG's and everything else you can imagine to figure out why he had these siezures all the while, adjusting to having a baby and becoming a family and not just a couple. Can you say S.T.R.E.S.S???? Yeah, it was pretty bad. We finally both melted around 4 months PP after all the tests came back showing nothing, etc. we were constantly bickering, over the stupidest stuff, which is so unlike us, and we finally just broke. After we talked and cried and talked and cried for about 2 hours, we felt so much better. Soo....sorry this turned into a novel, but I would say without having the incident that we did right after jumping into parenting, it is stressful on every couple and a major adjustment. But in time, it all works itself out and you're functioning like a happy little family (most days ;)) like you've been doing it your whole life. The whole help thing, I really can't complain, Brett is a WONDERFUL help, as soon as he's home in the evenings. Now when Reece came along, there was really no "hard" adjustment time, like I thought there would be, I was shocked, and still am, the little guy's just molded himself right into our routine and we just love him!!!! :) Wow, that was long!
mrs.ski: Great to hear from you. Sorry about the deaths and all the other stuff going on, but glad to hear you and the babe are doing great now!
I'm glad I am not the only slacker poster in here. I figure we are all going through the same things, so at least you all understand.
MrsSki, it is good to hear from you. I'm glad to here things are going well with Ben, and very impressive you are under your pre-pg weight!
jenjen, I hope the mastitis passed quickly. I had it the first week and it was horrible. I don't wish it on any one!
Michelle, I can't wait to see Zoey's room when you have it finished. I'm sure she doesn't mind the wait at all.
Candice, I'm glad work is going well for you. And Cole is doing so well.
Paty had a bout of baby acne for awhile, but it finally cleared up. It didn't really surprise me, but yeah, not ideal for pictures. Speaking of pictures, I need to get her in for some professional ones soon..before I go back to work. I figure we'll do fancy pro family pics around her 6 month bday, but I'd like to do Penneys or something similar next month.
As for DH and I, it has been a little rough. He took a new job in January and the hours are tough! We also don't really have anyone around to babysit, so there isn't any us time right now. We're holding it together but hopefully will have a chance to be a "couple" again soon. It also hasn't helped that I was pretty sick for a week, then he got sick and now he is traveling again. Hard to be romantic when you are all snotty :(
So, how many of you are on a schedule? I'm trying to get Payton on more of a schedule during the day in the hopes that it will make things easier for her at day care. But it isn't going so well, which is ok. Right now I try to both spoil her and get her to do what I want. Kind of confusing I guess.
Ranchers- Yes, Aveeno 1% Hydrocortisone Anti-Itch Cream. I doubt it will hurt Reece! Zoey has REALLY sensitive skin and this stuff worked fine. Although, if you are nervous, check with your Doc first! :)
Wow, I can't imagine going through that stuff with your husband without a new baby, nevertheless with one! That must have really strengthened your relationship in the long run!
Boiler- Zoey isn't really on a schedule, but she is usually up for 1.5 to 2 hours before she goes back to sleep. So depending on when she wakes up, I can count on her to eat, then be up for a while, then go back down. She cries for two reasons, food and tired. If I have fed her recently and she cries, I know she is tired. The amount of time she sleeps varies. Sometimes she naps for 45 mintues, other times it is 4 or more hours. That is pretty erratic. But no matter how long she sleeps, she is still up for the same amount of time. I don't know if I want her on more of a schedule right now, for me, she is pretty portable at the moment and I like that. As she gets older a more rigid schedule will probably be necessary!
QOTD- DH and I are doing pretty well. I have had one breakdown about everything, but that seems pretty good considering what a change motherhood is! DH isn't a huge help, but he at least recognizes that I do a TON for him and Zoey and appreciates it. He works A LOT and late a lot too, so that is no fun for me and sometimes I think I am going to go crazy, but I have thrown myself into a ton of outside the house activities and that helps keep my sanity! We did have a talk about eating at the dinner table as opposed to in front of the TV. That drives me crazy and I told him that I wanted my family to eat at the table together! He agreed, and so we are doing that more often, but somtimes I cave and let him watch TV during dinner anyway. As long as he knows that when Zoey is eating "real" food, we will be eating at the table every night!
I do have to ask him to help me with her. He doesn't volunteer much on his own. I wish he would, but then again, when I ask, he is usually pretty helpful. Heck, he even changes cloth diapers- so I can't complain a whole lot.
*******
It is almost midnight and my daughter has been asleep in her swing since 6 pm... I wonder if I should just leave her there and go to bed, or if I should try to move her. I think it is only a matter of time before she gets up and wants to eat, so maybe I should just stay up. The other deliemma is, should I pump, or should I wait until she gets up? Hmmm... Maybe I will pump one side and leave the other side full... I just can't believe this "nap" turned into bedtime!
QOTD: DH and I have been doing OKAY, but not great. I'm stressed because J won't sleep in the bassinet and my back has been very stressed from carrying him and his brother (40 lbs) so much. So I'm cranky at night. DH is trying real hard to help, but he can't read my mind like I would like him too. I wish he would just see something that needs done and do it (like the dishes in teh dishwasher for the past two days?!). but if I ask him to do something like wash the diapers, he will do it without a problem. I just get tired of asking. If I think of it like a job though, I'm just delgating and I feel better about asking. I do realize that really he is trying not to step on my toes since most of hte housework is usually mine to do. And I want to do it and I get frustrated when I can't. But I'd still like him to take a bit more initiative sometimes. :) But we are doing much better than after DS1 was born. He did nothing for months until I melted down and made him take DS1 in the evenings.
Lady- I wonder if you are like me- When DH starts doing something around the house like sweeping or something I somehow feel like I am not getting everything done and that I am shirking in my work. Crazy huh? I feel like I am not holding up my end of the deal and he is going to think the whole house is a wreck and that it's my fault. I think I am too hard on myself. I should be jumping for joy that he is helping. I don't know what's wrong with me, although I do wish he would realize that "taking care of the dishes" does not mean setting them in the sink. Does he seriously think that the sink washes dishes? I sure hope not! The dishwasher is right there, just waiting for him to put them in. Sometimes when he says "I'll take care of the dishes" I say, "thanks, and by the way, the dishwasher is empty (or dirty)" so that he can't say that he didn't know! But even then, how hard is it to look and see if the dishes are clean or dirty? Really...
Hi girls, just popping in to catch up on everyone. Both of my kids have colds. DS was on the nebulizer all last week and DD just has a major runny nose that seems to go away after saline and the booger ball. She is such a trooper, she just smiles at me as I suck the stuff out.
No time for shout-outs, I do apologize but wanted to add to the QOTD.
QOTD My DH is a wonderful father and I feel 110% that if I do leave the house that the kids are in great hands. What I hate is that he can "check out" whenever he feels like it. Like go out and do yard work, go into the gargage, go for a run or bike ride. He plays on this volleyball team 2 days a week in the spring/summer and once in a while he will want to throw in a 3rd day and it makes me crazy. Sometimes I don't think it is fair. He says "go out and do stuff" but I don't have that "checking out" stuff like he has, I don't get satisfaction sweeping and rearranging the garage once a week and how many times can one go to Target. This was a major gripe of mine when DS was a newborn and yet again it has happened. Now that I'm typing this, I'm getting all worked up, gonna go and get a pedi tonight! Darn it!
rancherswife
04-24-2007, 10:51 AM
stars: Enjoy the pedi., you deserve it. Hey, I think we ALL deserve a good pedi., newborns are a full time job and throw in a toddler and husband, $hit, we all deserve a full day at the spa, once a month. ;) I totally get the whole "checking out" thing, and it annoys the hell out of me too. Brett does the whole sweeping/rearraging the garage thing at least once a week too. WTF? I swear it's just an excuse to go out of the house while chaos is occuring inside, I usually just send Landon packing right behind him. :)
ranchers ~ I remember when all that was going on. I used to have seizures and it would freak people out. I don't remember having them or anything that happened right before, during or for a little while after having one. I had a bunch of tests and saw numerous doctors to figure out what was causing mine. As best they could figure it out it all started (I also developed severe headaches) when I fell and hit my head (either on the dresser or closet door jam - don't know which one as DH wasn't home and I don't remember). He found me lying on the bedroom floor out of it. I started having the severe headaches immediately after that fall and the seizures started a couple of weeks later. It took well over a year for them to tell us they were seizures (DH and his dad were convinced a lot earlier due to them having seen seizures first hand. DH's mom had them). I have only had one or two since DD was born. They determined that they were caused when I fell and hit my head and needed time to heal.
QOTD: Having DS hasn't been that big of an adjustment. The first and major adjustment came when DD was born. We were still dealing with the aftermath of FIL's sudden passing (and the manner in which it happened), my dad's continued decline in health, everyday life, new baby, etc. Factor in my inability to do much but sleep those first few months and it wasn't easy. Once we figured out my thyroid was causing my problems things got better (I felt like I had an actual reason to feel the way I did and it wasn't in my head). There have been days where things haven't went easy but they aren't very common. DH helps me a lot more this time and I don't even have to ask most of the time. Or he'll help with fixing dinner, washing clothes, etc. Sometimes it makes me feel as though I'm doing everything I should be but running after DD all day, keeping her out of stuff, taking care of DS I'm usually worn out and am lucky to get the bare minimum done each day.
[b]Milestones ~ DS rolled from his back to his front on Sunday. I couldn't believe it. I wasn't expecting it since we haven't been able to do much tummy time.
Night out ~ We had a night out on Saturday. I think it was the first time in well over a year. And the first time we had gone out to eat alone without any kids. DH took me out for our anniversary dinner and then to a friend's birthday party. We all went out dancing. We ended up staying much later than we had planned. It was 1:30 am when we left so it was a little after 2 am by the time we got home, got both kids. We didn't get to bed until 5:00 am and had to be back up and at church by 9:00 am. Was a short night but we definitely had fun. I'm looking forward to the next time.
Okay, I think I have a second...DS is swinging and DH is on the phone w/his buddy!
QOTD: DH and I are tight, always have been, but having a baby is a big change for any couple. I am about to vent so please don't read if you don't want. Here goes, I work full time, take care of a baby, cook, clean, go to school and take care of DH. I wake-up at 5:30am to pump and feed DS, I let DH sleep in as long as possible and never bother him during the night if DS wakes up, then I get us ready, drop DS off at daycare and head to work. While at work I pump twice in between meetings and conference calls. Once I leave work I pick DS up, come home and clean bottles and pumping gear, take a walk w/ DS, feed DS, clean up around the house and cook all before DH even gets home. Occasionally, I make comments to DH about trying to come home earlier and he gets so frusterated with me and rants about how busy he is at work. I realize he's busy...I am too, but you don't see me complaining. Then on the weekends, DH says he need "me" time. He says I get me time everyday on my walk (the same walk I take DS on) I just get frusterated b/c we see DH so little during the weekdays you would think he would want to spend more time with me & DS on the weekends.. I have actaully not started YOGA back-up b/c I don't want to be away from DS any more than I have to be. To add to my venting session: I just had to go get DS b/c he was crying (eventhough DH was right next to him). So sorry for the novel!!!! I really needed to get that off my chest! Don't get me wrong, I love being a mom and DH is very helpful with so many things (feeding, bath time, changing diapers, cleaning pump.....) But, I just wish we saw him more!!!
Take care ladies and thanks for listening!
Thanks to everyone on the well wishes on the mastitis. It has finally cleared up and I feel much better. I hope I never have to deal with that again!
QOTD - After the birth of DS #1, DH and I had a tough time adjusting to sleep deprivation and were snippy with each other. We are both pretty laid back, so we talked it out and set up a routine where we both could get some sleep. When DS #2 came along, we knew what to expect. Don't get me wrong, there are still times where I feel like I'm doing the majority of the childcare and when that happens I just let him know and he steps up and gets back on the ball. One thing we are really bad about, is making time for just the two of us. We really need to have "dates" again and just spend it together without kids.
usafwife - Congrats on the rolling over!
and speaking of tummy time.... My kid hates it. So, that, paired with the fact that he must be watched over LIKE.A.HAWK. while on the floor ( I'll give you one guess why. ;)), needless to say, this dead beat mom hasn't been very good w/ the tummy time so far.
Jen ~ Thanks. Glad to hear that the mastitis has cleared up. I hope it never comes your way again. I agree with you on making dates for just the two of you. It felt so good for us just to go out on Saturday and be a couple. We didn't have any kids around, didn't have to be mommy or daddy, and just have fun. And some much needed alone time.
ranchers ~ Sorry to hear that Reece hates tummy time. I can definitely understand having to watch like a hawk (as it happens at our house as well).
I can't believe my little guy turned 3 months last Thursday. I swear the time is going much quicker this time around (and I thought it went by quickly with DD). Although he still is tiny so that makes him not seem quite so big/old yet. He's still in preemie although it's getting to be too short for him. I found him some preemie shorts (they still have plenty of room around the waist) last night so I grabbed them up immediately. He's starting to wear the newborn and some 0-3 month things that we had already bought that were short sleeve. We shall see if he gets to wear the 3-6 month outfits this summer (I'm certainly not holding my breath for that to happen).
Ranchers- too cute! love that little guy- those smiles sure can be elusive. Everytime I think I have one, she changes right before the picture snaps! I have managed to get a few, but it isn't easy... How did the cream work? I hope he is looking better for you!
Candice- No need to worry about venting, that it what we are here for. I am sorry you don't get to see dh enough. My dh works a ton too, but we are trying to work out a way to see each other a bit more. It is so hard, and I can't imagine how tough it must be when you are both working. Make sure that you get some "me" time too. I don't know how you do that, but you have to find away or you will go insane. Also make sure you talk to your dh about how you are feeling and I know that sucks because it can start a fight and sometimes it is just easier to let it fester, than start a fight, but you will just fume and fume if you are anything like me and that is much worse! It is great that he helps with ds so much- that makes it better, but it still doesn't give you any alone time... I am praying that we all adjust into our new roles and that our marriages only get stronger!
Lady- LOL, I think a lot of women are singing our tune!
It got really bad yesterday, it looked like he had a terrible skin condition. The ped. told me to get the medicated shampoo, sebulex and after just two applications, it's clearing up. Thank goodness. Hi princess!!! Wow, your little man is chubby like mine- so cute! Transitioning back to work has been rough! I love love love being at work but then I've been coming home and M spends most of the night screaming. Tough to focus on loan committee with no sleep! Hopefully it's just adjustment.
Also it's kind of tough to leave the house lugging so much gear! (Pump, briefcase, lunch, etc.) I miss the days when I only had to bring one bag! LOL.
QOTD- relationship with DH Honestly the baby has been such an incredible blessing and for the most part brought us even closer. (I'm going to put a disclaimer in here- I think DH is so involved because we went through 3 years of infertility and four losses to get our son. If we had an easier time he may have been much less supportive!)
We're so focused on M and figuring out what works-it's fun to share perspectives. We've also had a couple of nice date nights when his Uncle or grandparents have babysat :) DH takes over the night shift which has been awesome (he gets home at 1 a.m. so it's easier for him). He's a pro bottle washer and sterilizer, and has been really supportive of my pumping- I would not have made it this far without him. He'll also watch M on the weekends so I can sleep and I've made it out a few times to visit gf's, etc. I am lucky!
njnewyears Nice weight! :D
MrsSki Big hugs to you!! Thank you for sharing your birth story. So sorry to hear of the deaths in the family. Glad Ben is doing well though and glad you found what worked for him food-wise!
