Anyone want to participate in a fantasy football league? We can set up a group of just us CC gals.
I once was part of one at a former work place. I was the winner, amist many guys...boy did that hurt their egos. :D

Jenny, that is great! Every year I say I am going to join my DH's group, but I never do. In fact, DH is currently in Florida on his annual Fantasy Football draft weekend with all the guys.
Maybe if one gets started here I'll join in.

That's funny, because I was asked to join the FFL my husband is participating in!! I declined it because the money is too much for both of us to be in (it's okay to have one person, but two - it gets a bit pricey). But I'm going to help DH and hopefully we can win this year! :D

Take the field with Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football, a free game that gives you the chance to manage your own team of professional football players from the opening kickoff right through the late-season playoff races.
Your goal is to get the best team on the field each week, since the better your players perform in real-life games, the more value they bring to your fantasy team.
And, while you sit back and watch your team progress through the season, we do all the hard work of gathering statistics, computing point totals, and updating standings.

07-25-2005, 03:36 PM
Hi MaxandMolly! Okay, here's a super abbreviated fantasy football blurb for ya.
In this particular league, yahoo will automatically draft a team for you. From the players yahoo picks, you have to set a "starting lineup" each week.
In this league, the starting lineup consists of:
1 quarterback (QB)
3 wide receivers (WR)
2 runningbacks (RB)
1 TE
1 Kicker
1 Defense
That will leave you with 6 players on your "bench" - they will not "play"
The amount of points a player scores depends on how well the player does that particular week. (how many touchdowns, how many yards, etc). They can also get negative points if they do something bad like fumble. Here's the points breakdown:
Passing Yards (50 yards per point)
Passing Touchdowns (6)
Interceptions (-2)
Rushing Yards (20 yards per point)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Receptions (2)
Reception Yards (20 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)
Return Yards (50 yards per point)
Return Touchdowns (6)
2-Point Conversions (2)
Fumbles Lost (-2)
Offensive Fumble Return TD (6)
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Point After Attempt Made (1)
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)
Points Allowed 0 points (10)
Points Allowed 1-6 points (7)
Points Allowed 7-13 points (4)
Points Allowed 14-20 points (1)
Points Allowed 21-27 points (0)
Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)
To determine your final score, the point total for each player playing (not including the bench players) is combined for your total "game" score. You have to "score" more points than your opponent to win the game.
Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions!! :p
maxandmolly
07-25-2005, 03:39 PM
Cool! So, I don't have to do anything else until the draft, right? When will that be?
Then every week I pick my players, and match them againnt whoever I'm playing that week. Ok, got it.
I think.
But I'm sure I'll suck!
jennylou
07-25-2005, 03:53 PM
nevermind - just saw that it is an automated draft. What day are you planning on doing the draft?
I figured we would wait to set a date for now, just to allow more people to see this and join up.
When does everyone else think is a good day?
Also, I made it automated because the other way read to me that a person would need to be at their PC for some time.

I should add - when I first posted, I didn't realize we could still rank our players if we wanted - (I thought the computer did all of the work) - so maybe it doesn't matter.
Drafting can be an all day affair (as witnessed by my DH's live drafts)

I think we should definitely have an automated draft. Honestly, I don't have time to sit in front of my computer for that long on a weekend. And weekdays I couldn't do it since I'm at work.
Auto drafts (especially with a league this size) are just as good as a live draft. The league is going to be very spread out; most teams are going to have one maybe two good players (any more and the FF gods are smiling).
I'm for the auto draft. :)

I posted this on our league page, but thought i'd also post it here:
I think that we might want to allow fractional points, especially since it takes a lot of yards to achieve 1 point (20 yards rushing/receiving = 1 point).
It would suck to have missed 1 more point just because he was 2 yards shy of 20 yards. A player should be rewarded for all the yards he can get, and not be punished for not making an even 20.
Just MHO. :)

Fractional points are too difficult to deal with. No league I've ever seen/been a part of used them. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.
scrappy
08-06-2005, 07:42 PM
Difficult in what way? Yahoo calculates the points - it's nothing we have to do ourselves. All the leagues i've played in do use fractional points, so I thought i'd just bring it up as an option. :)

ACK! I can't believe we had the draft already!!!! I totally was not ready; I hadn't updated my draft listing or anything. The preseason just started this weekend, and there's going to be a lot of opportunities for injuries and breakouts.

I think it took me by surprise because I've never been in a league that drafted before preseason. It was always like the last possible day before regular season.
I was only drafted ONE QB and it's not even a good one. Anyone who has an abundance of QBs and is looking for a trade (of any other position), please let me know. I'm in desparate, desparate need of a QB.
Chimichanga
08-08-2005, 08:24 AM
Tell me about the QBs! I have *one* QB. :( DH said it's okay thought; I got an outstanding RB so that's good.
I do have an open TE spot. DH and I did some waivers this weekend and I think my team should be good if there are no major injuries.
The draft was a pain in the arse though. We went through and ranked the players (did use the auto feature). That is a LOT of players to rank!!

Since the league filled up I set it to autodraft ready. You should be able to log in and see your teams now. At least that's what I got out of the email this morning....off to look for sure now. :)I don't want to be too negative but, I had no idea until just now that we had set a date for the autodraft. I thought we were doing it closer to the end of August and I never ranked my players. I see many people have already even done trades and such. I would have been nice to have known in advance what the plans were. An email could have been sent out or something. Is there any chance we can redo the draft at a later date that we all have knowledge of?
scrappy
08-08-2005, 09:52 AM
I would be perfectly happy doing what njlorelei suggested. Especially since it seems that most of us were totally unprepared for the draft, and because of the possibilities of injuries this early in the season...
Of course, everything is up to the commish. :)
njlorelei
08-08-2005, 10:32 AM
Now that I've seen my team I'm not really unhappy with who I have and I can't say I'd do any better with a new draft so I'm willing to keep the draft as is. Plus since so many people have already begun to make changes and trades it might upset more people to redraft. I'm willing to stay as is or redraft, but I'm going to start working on improving my team as if we are keeping it as is.
I thought we had a waiver time of 2 days? Why did my team roster change immediately when I put in an add/drop request? If the changes are immediate then our waiver ranking means nothing.
scarlett
08-08-2005, 10:48 AM
I'd love to do a redraft, but if we don't, I'm sure I'll figure something out. And with an auto-draft, I'm not even that sure I'd end up with anything better (not that I want to do a live draft).
I thought we had a waiver time of 2 days? Why did my team roster change immediately when I put in an add/drop request? If the changes are immediate then our waiver ranking means nothing. If I'm remembering correctly from last year, any free agent does not count as a waiver pick. It's only if someone drops a person from their team, that that player is on "waiver" for 2 days. After 2 days, he's a free agent and can be picked up immediately. I *think* that's right, but you may want to double check the rules.
njlorelei
08-08-2005, 10:55 AM
That waiver info does sound familiar. Thanks. I was just surprised when my change went through immediately and then my mind blanked on why we even have a waiver ranking.

Just a thought...
I, as well, was sort of surprised by the draft. However, I don't think any of us would have made out that much better given the size of this league. Someone (sorry I don't remember who) mentioned earlier that in a group this big, we're going to be lucky to get 1-2 good players. My $.02 is to just go with what we've got. If I had paid or was playing for money, I'd be a bit more concerned.

Thought I'd just do a general trade offer and see if anyone is interested. :)
I'm looking to do a 2 for 1 trade for either a runningback or possibly a QB.
I'm offering:
WR - Amani Toomer NYG
and
DEF - San Diego Chargers
You get a solid starting WR, and a solid defense in exchange for your 1 player. Feel free to email offers if interested! :)
Once we decide on a player, we'll go through the official trading system.

Wow, I missed a lot yesterday. I'm sorry that the draft took everyone by surprise. I think the most diplomatic way to resolve this is to take a vote and go from there.
There was no option to set a date, so once I told the software that we were draft ready, it drafted for us.
Again, sorry that it took everyone by surprise.
Chimichanga
08-09-2005, 01:56 PM
I think we should leave it as is.
No one is going to get a "stacked" team due to the sheer size of the league. If you have two good players you're in an excellent position. I don't think many of us would benefit from a re-draft. And, it really wouldn't be very fair to people who did get a few good players and were trying to build a team around that person.
As someone mentioned, moves are already starting to be made. It would be more of a hassle to re-draft, IMO.

When are we thinking the draft will be? Time frame? I may try to figure out the pre-draft pick thing so that Yahoo picks at least one player that I want! LOL - I prob won't figure it out though!

I was a part of the league last year and was so psyched to join...
but I got the "orange screen of death" - the site is blocked. Apparently, my employer does not think fantasy football is an acceptable use of it's resources.

Hey Ladies!
I was also disappointed that other league closed by the time I found out about it so I'm happy to see that another league has started up.
I just signed up and my team name is BLUE REIGN :D
Can't wait for the season to begin!!! I LOVE FOOTBALL!!!

No, I haven't set a draft day yet. Sorry I didn't respond immediately. :o
I will go check into it. Oh, and I guess I need to know whether you all prefer to do a live draft or an auto draft. Thanks! :)

I'm fine with a live draft. When would be a convenient time for you if we do it that way, Carissa?
Even if we can't find a time when everyone can participate, everyone will have an opportunity to make their pre-draft player rankings. That way your picks will be made for you, according to your rankings, if you aren't there to make your picks.
Everyone else, please include when you could participate in a live draft when you respond. :)

Weekends are best for me for a live draft. The only weekend days in the upcoming weeks that don't work for me are tomorrow (August 20th) and next Saturday August 27th.
Looking forward to it!!

I can do it pretty much any time. I am very flexiable, so if the best time is the weekend that is great.

I'm sure the weekend would work for me, too. Maybe we could do it on a Sunday afternoon? If it is OK, I think I'll wait to see if a few more people from our league respond after the weekend, then we can decide something. :)

Attention League # 2:
We're going to do a live draft on SUNDAY, AUGUST 28 at 3 pm CST (4 pm EST, 2 pm MST, 1 pm PST). You may want to make pre-draft player rankings. If you will not be able to be at your computer to make live picks, you should definitely look at your pre-draft player rankings to see what adjustments you'd like to make to the default rankings. The computer will select players for you based on the players remaining and your preferences if you are not online to make your own picks.
Let me know if you have any questions or problems. :)

Had so much fun yesterday!!!! It was actually really easy (besides picking those players in the late rounds!) My Dh was funny. I showed him my team and he said "now, that is great team!!!". Then I proceeded to show him everyone else's in which he said, "Oh she has a good team" to every single one. :) Looks like we all are football pros! I can't wait!
Hope everything is okay with polkadot, her family and her property!! Looks bad.

Okay, so I am probably too lazy to find it, but how does this work now? In DH's league they play another team every week. Do we do that or does it just tally point throughout the season?

Are we a head-to-head league or a point league?
Join a Head-to-Head League and square off weekly against other managers. Each manager sets his/her lineup based on league requirements and is matched up each week against another manager according to the league's schedule. Whoever accumulates the most fantasy points -- based on your league settings -- wins the game. Weekly results are then tallied into an overall record.
In non-playoff leagues, the team with the best winning percentage wins the championship. In playoff leagues, the top teams have an elimination tournament to determine a winner.
Join a Points League and simply set your goal on being the highest scorer. Set a weekly lineup based on league requirements and hope your players collect more fantasy points than anyone else's. Points are tallied throughout the football season, and the team with the highest total at the end of the year wins the league championship.

There were some good match-ups in our league this past week.
NewEngland Nightmare, you really had me scared Monday night. That Brian Westbrook kept getting catches. I was lucky to hang on by a 2 point lead. It is impressive that we had the second and third highest amount of points for the week in our league.

(NewEngland Nightmare here.) I was watching the game and kept saying "Go Brian Westbrook!" Of course, my FH was going against him and kept saying "no, do not give him the ball." Last week was a good match!

Raider Nation here from the Constant Chatter Gals league. Just wanted to say thanks for a super fun fantasy football season!! :p Now we can all sit and enjoy the games for the fun of it - instead of biting our nails each time one of our players makes a catch/run/pass, etc. ;)
And best of luck to the CC Football Fanatics league (I'm green apple splatter in that league). Looks like Fighting Butterflies is going to take 1st barring any issues this week. :)
