View Full Version : Any Idea What This Might Be?

Okay, this is embarassing but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea or has gone through anything similar.

Background: Several years ago I had what I thought were chronic UTIs. I was back and forth to the gyno and my doc for months. Finally I was sent to uroligist who was able to figure out that it wasn't a UTI. There was nothing wrong with my bladder, but I still had that urge to pee, irration afterwards etc. I was put on antibiotics for several months and stopped taking the BCP I was on, thinking that may be the problem. After being on the antibiotics for several months it finally went away and I didn't have a problem.

...Until now. It came back last month. I waited a week before going to the doctor. My uroligist wasn't in the office so I saw his partner (who I did not like...). I was hoping it was a UTI this time, but it wasn't. This doctor looked at my chart, saw my history and just prescribed me the same medicine I had taken last time. I have been taking the antibiotic now for nearly a month and the problem has reoccured twice while on the medicine. First it lasted for like two days before going away again. Now I've had it back for 3 days.

I'm thinking now it's related to sex in some way. I had sex before I got it again and before it reoccured now. Could it be some kind of vaginal problem? If so, why isn't the antibiotics curing it? And why did it pick now to show up again when I've had sex for the past several years no problem? After sex I'm very careful and always go right to the bathroom to pee.

My main symtoms are feeling like I have to pee, with some irration when I do. Sometimes I feel sore in my lower pelvis area.

I'm not pg or anything because I just had my period. I am going to see my gyno soon. I was just wondering if someone could shed some light in the meantime. This problem is really irritating.

Thanks.

Have your docs mentioned Interstitial cystitis (http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/interstitialcystitis/) (IC)? It's kind of a frustrating diagnosis b/c it just means there's something non-specific wrong with your urinary system. Symptoms can be pain, frequency, or urgency. My symptom was that I always felt like I had to pee. Have you had a cystoscopy?

Also, is your urologist a uro-gynecologist? If not, I recommend finding one or at least a uro who specializes in women. My first urologist gave me prostate meds! Anyway, there are a couple meds that treat IC, one is Elmiron, and Urised plus amitriptylene works on mine.

THis just happened to a coworker and her urine sample came back fine but she pushed for another test to find out she has a bacteria growing in her bladder.
