I've read the threads on experiences with hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, but my question is more about the reasons for the surgeries. If you think the post should be moved, go ahead! :)

I had a tubal last year after my 3rd child was born, so the dr. isn't sending me in for infertilty issues. Over the last year, I've had some bleeding and pain with sex and my periods are EXTREMELY HEAVY. I don't have any bleedin between periods. Those are the only symptoms I have, though I'm sure I could pinpoint some others if I knew what I was looking for. When I went in to see my dr. for my yearly exam, I brought this issue up to her. After the exam, she said everything looked good and couldn't figure out why I was having these problems. She sent me in for an ultrasound, and everything looked good there as well. She seemed concerned that I was having these issues and couldn't figure out what the problem was so she said the next step was to send me in for a laparoscopy and a hysteroscopy.

What could they find during the surgeries?? I think I'm more worried about the dr. will find than I am about the actual surgery!!

I had a lap and hysteroscopy while I was going through infertility treatments, but not for infertility specifically.

Mine was scheduled because I had uterine polyps. Mine actually detached and were passed with AF (gross!), and after I'd passed 3, the doctor wanted to do a lap/hysteroscopy to see if there were any other polyps and to see what other things might be going on.

I had a laparoscopy for suspected endometriosis. I had painful periods and ovulation as well as several of the other symptoms. The pain was the deciding factor in having the lap. Pain during intercourse can be a sign of endometriosis. Unfortunately, it can only be definitively diagnosed through lap. You might want to look up the other symptoms to see if you see any similarities.

I might also call my doctor and ask her specifically what she is looking for---- does she have some ideas of what could be causing this---some idea of what she might find?

I have looked up endometriosis and that was one of my first thoughts when I went to the dr. I guess, if I really look at it, I do have some other symptoms. My periods are more painful than previously, but I was on birth control for so many years I can't really remember periods with out them! Sure I may have pelvic/lower back pain, but nothing major. And I"m tired ALL THE TIME, but I do have 3 kids!!

At first my dr. thought cysts because of the bleeding. But when nothing showed on the ultrasound, she really didn't have any idea. But I didn't go to her with any other symptoms, since none of them were bad enough to seem relevant. I guess at this point, it really could be anything. That's why I want to see what others went through the surgeries for and what can be done as treatment.
