My dh and I are going to Key West this fall, probably in Oct., and we need some recommendations on hotels. We aren't big fans of B&B's, but we would like to be close to the action (at least within walking distance of Duvall St.). I searched for threads on this, but could only come with a thread with activities (very helpful too), but we are having a hard time finding hotels. Any ideas??
TIA for responses.

I can give you a non-recommendation  --do not stay at the Best Western Ambassador; the rooms are huge, but it's really old, quite far way from the action and not terribly clean. You might want to check out this website (http://www.res99.com/nexres/search/search_results.cgi?interstitial=done&tab=tab0&src=10012954&lang=ENG&city=Key%20West&state=FL&country=US) for at least a good overview of what's available. Good luck!

I stayed at the Hyatt--several years ago and while it was a little pricey, it was a great location.

Wow em1126, you're quick!! Thanks for the NON-recommendation! Those are as important as the good recs. That web site looks great, I'm definitely going to go do some research using that! Thanks!
Hi dragonfly, we cross-posted. I'll check that one out too. Thanks!

DH stayed at the Crowne Plaza Key West La Concha for work. It's in the middle of downtown (perhaps near some loud bars) on Duval St. Pricey though. Beautiful bar on the top floor with great views.

I really like The Pier House (http://www.pierhouse.com/). It's in the heart of Old Town and very close to Duval. A really great place. If I don't do the B&B thing, then I stay here.
The The Westin Key West Resort & Marina (http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1780) is also really nice. I haven't stayed there for awhile, but it sure was great when I did!
Have fun. I love Key West. :D :) BOOK EARLY! If you're going at the end of the month, that's during Fantasy Fest and things will sell out quickly!

Avalon B&B (http://www.avalonbnb.com/) I can highly recommend- it's on Duval St but at the end where nothing is really going on. It's across the street from the Butterfly place.

My DH and I stayed at the Merlinn Inn a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I think it was just one or two streets over from Duval - a very quick walk. We stayed in a room called the Treehouse Suite and it was great.

LauraPerg I know you weren't looking for B & B's, but if you do change your mind some of the ones in Key West are really cool and funky. :)

My two favorites that we've been to several times in the past....
Hilton Key West Resort and the Hyatt Sunset Harbor. The Hilton is probably my favorite because you get access to their island Sunset Key that has an amazing beach...a plus since beaches are hard to come by in Key West.

Heather, do you know anything about The Marquesa Hotel? This looks sort of like a B&B and it got Fodor's Choice, etc. What about the Curry Mansion? Those are 2 "sort of" B&B's we are looking at.

Oh I had some fun at the Marquesa in my college days. ;) :D :o Clean rooms, pretty pool and the staff is so wonderful! What's also cool is that it feels like you're away from it all, but you're only two blocks from Duval! I also think it's pretty romantic. :) I can't speak for it now, but I hear it's the same. I had no complaints!
I've heard good and bad on the Curry Mansion as far as pricing and what you get. But I've also heard that it's really nice and pretty with great breakfasts and cocktail hours. I also believe they have plenty of parking. I can't remember the parking situation at the Marquesa, but I'm pretty sure they have parking too. Sorry I couldn't help more on this one!
