I am having a repeat c-section. My first was an emergency. But, I am most likely having a repeat with this pregnancy. How many days before your edd to they usually schedule the c-section.
My dd was born 1 1/2 weeks before. So, what happens if I go into labor?:eek:
Thanks.

I've only had one c so far, but based on friends and family's experiences I'd say 10 days before your edd is pretty average. Obviously your dr. will schedule you based on your own history though...
I also think it is pretty common to have your date scheduled at least a month in advance...

I've had 3 c-sections, and the last 2 were scheduled for 1 week before the EDD. We set the dates up 2 weeks before my EDD. I was told that if I went into labor before the scheduled c-s date to go to the hospital and tell them I was scheduled for a c-s so they could call my OB.

My OB scheduled me at 38 weeks. She also told me they won't schedule before 38 weeks. I was told that if I went into labor before, to go call the office then go to the hospital and let them know I was scheduled at a later date for a c-section.

I won't be scheduled for a c-section, but I will be scheduled for an induction and my doc plans on doing it sometime in my 39th week.

i guess i'm the weird one! my doctor had my c-section scheduled at my 16 week appointment. so tomorrow i'm 17 weeks along and i have no idea whether the baby's a boy or a girl, but i already know that his/her birthday will be august 7th. my situation is a little bit different because i went into pre-term labor last time (at 33 weeks) and ended up having an emergency c-section at 35 weeks, but so long as i keep kidlet #2 in utero to 39 weeks, the date is already in mine, the doctor's and the hospital's calendar.

My OB won't do repeat c/s until 39 weeks, not a day sooner. They are pretty strict about this, apparently for three reasons:
1.) They want to make sure the lungs are mature;
2.) In the event your due date is off by a week or two, they want to avoid prematurity;
3.) They get *so* many 2nd timers begging to go early, for no other reason than they are tired of being pregnant.
So my OB had to get strict about it and say the soonest is 39 weeks, no exceptions (unless of course a medical necessity arises). I'm waiting until closer to 40 weeks for personal reasons. If I go into labor before then, I just go to the hospital and whichever OB in my practice is on call will do the c/s.
I'll be able to schedule the actual date a month prior.

Most of my friends who have repeat c-sections are scheduled for exactly 39 weeks.

Mine was scheduled for 39 weeks. I actually went into labor at 38.5 weeks on my own. We just went to the hospital and checked in. Ob was called and came to do the c-section.

I will most likely be having a planned Csection due to high blood pressure and my Dr. told me today we would discuss it at my next apt in 2 weeks. She said she will be scheduling it at 38 weeks most likely.

tony can I ask why a c/s? You can have high blood pressure and still deliver vaginally.

There's another thread on this topic here (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27285).

Oh I don't HAVE to. Right now I'm borderline preelamsia. I'm going tomorrow for some tests and all that jazz. She said either Csection or induction and either one is my choice. This is all assuming my blood pressure continues to rise and my protein starts spilling over into my urine. It's worst case type thing. If I have a C it'll be scheduled at 38 weeks.

I had an emergency c/s with DD while pushing. My OB at that time said that we wouldn't have to schedule a repeat c/s if that wasn't what we wanted to do. We could wait until I went into labor and then do the c/s (I didn't want to pick out the baby's birthday and other reasons). However I had to change OBs when he left so I wasn't sure what the new OB's feelings were on not scheduling it/when it would be scheduled.
My current OB does repeat c/s at 38 wks. When I reached 30 wks she wanted to get it on the books but we didn't want to schedule it. I wanted to go into labor on my own or at least not know what day it was going to happen. I started having complications at 35 wks and made it to 37 wks when I went into full labor. We went to L&D and told them I was scheduled for a c/s the week later (we all decided to go ahead and schedule it provided I made it to 38 wks but it was highly unlikely I would).

I know you didn't ask my opinion, but if you'll humor me for a second...
With so many doctors being of the "once-a-c-section-always-a-c-section" mindset, I would not choose a c-section over induction if you ever hope to have a vaginal birth in the future. If you're induced and you need a c-section after induction, that is always an option...but you can't undo a c-section. You could also very well have a successful vaginal birth as a result of induction.
Just my two cents...take it for what it is worth (for what it is worth, I wasn't pre-eclamptic, but I delivered vaginally without an epidural - but with Stadol - and DD was 9 pounds 2 ounces). ;)

Ah I got ya. Well just and FYI for you, I had REALLY high BP at one visit. My doc sent me to the hospital and ran all these tests and I was fine. Have you been having high blood pressure thoughout your visits? Did she have you lay on your left side and do it again?
Just remeber that docs (esp young ones) can jump the gun because of malpractice rates and get REALLY nervous about things.
I hope it is a fluke. I remebered not to have sweets before my appts after that! :)
haivng said that even if you have preelamsia and it isn't REALLY bad, they can still try for a vaginally delivery I think.
Good luck!

lml41981: Thanks, I always welcome opinions. I most def. want a vaginal delivery and that is what I want to go for of course. If it ends in Csection after an induction well then so be it. It's always good to hear about good endings! :)
allyray231: This is my 2nd visit with a high blood pressure. It was a little high 2 weeks ago at my last visit and then higher today. She took it again with me laying down and it went down a tad but not by much. We'll see what all the tests say. I'm a little nervous about them.

Tonysweetie ~ A friend of mine was due two wks after me when I was pregnant with DD. She had preclampsia but was induced the day after I delivered DD. During her labor (it was her second) her BP went really high and they did an emergency c/s.
