Has anyone been watching the Tyra show lately and all the hub she's doing about her "So What" movement about body issues. She's also praising the fact that there will be 2 *actual* plus size girls on this year (as opposed to girls who just aren't stick thin, who were being told they are "plus size").

The one thing I was livid about the year Tocarra was on, was that they never had plus size clothing for her to wear and they kept stuffing her into sample size clothing! Ugh! I really hope they clean up their act this season!

It's our wedding anniversary today, and my husband has already been informed that our "romantic movie" selection has been pre-empted by America's Next Top Model. Fortunately for me, he likes watching it too - even if he won't admit it. ;)

I can't wait for the show. maplekitty, I'm with you about the plus size models. I hope they don't treat them like Toccara was treated in terms of clothing selection. It was so wrong. They made it seem like it was her fault that she wore a size 12 or 14 or whatever size she wore. That made me so mad.

I'm so pissed. I really liked Kathleen. She has such a great personality. Jael should have gone home instead.

I like Whitney a lot more than Diana. She's absolutely beautiful and it seems like she's got more confidence!

Renee is a damn crybaby. She needs to get over herself and realize she's not God's gift to the modeling world. And I don't care if she's married with a kid.

Don't care for Natasha. Her voice bugs and I hate her know-it-all attitude. Also don't like Jaslene. She looks funny to me and not pretty at all.

Yeah, I'm waiting for the makeovers. I'm not sure who I really like at this point. I do like Whitney quite a bit and was a bit peeved that Kathleen got sent home. Damn! She had a personality that I would have liked to have seen more of. She was quite a bit ditzy, but in an interesting, funny way....kinda made for tv. :D

Many of these girls photograph very differently than they actually look on tv. That's better for them. For example, Cassandra is not all that cute, but the pic on page one doesn't look all that bad. Plus that dead dog on her head, oh that matted weave, looks horrid.

The photo shoot sucked. All of their pics were terrible. I guess Jaslene's was pretty good, but everyone else's pic lacked any personality or emotion. Just terrible. What a bunch of duds! Nobody's acting like they are in it to win it. As Miss Jay would say, they have to be FIERCE from Day 1!! And so far, they aren't bringing FIERCE to the table.

Obviously I didn't do so well picking Kathleen before the show started. She was such a sweet girl. She sure didn't have a clue though. I knew she would be cut when she just wasn't getting it at all.

While that may be true but the question is, will she be able to sustain her career? I think that all those designers and modeling agencies would balk at a "plus size" girl. I'm a cynic and I still remember all those sample sizes poor Toccara had to squeeze into and then getting blamed for not looking fierce (sorry it's hard to look fierce in what amounts to a sausage casing).

Tyra can afford to gain weight because she quit the profession. These girls, unfortunately, can't. Not unless the fashion industry accept normal girl sizes...which doesn't look like it.:(

My feeling? No. She'll never do high-fashion as a plus-size girl -- at least I can't foresee it happening any time soon, heck, not even in my lifetime. But I wouldn't be surprised if she won the show, anyway. Winning the show doesn't necessarily equate to having a high-fashion career. If Queen Latifah can do CoverGirl, then these plus size girls can, too.

Finally caught the episode...

I'm glad Kathleen was cut. She just came across as being really slow and unable to understand or properly follow direction. I'm sure she's a nice girl, but not very fast on the uptake.

Renee is the most conventionally/classically beautiful, IMO... which means she will be dismissed very soon. :rolleyes: But I hate her personality so it won't bother me too much this time.

I like Sarah's look, but she needs to STFU and stop bragging!! Sorry, but she did not walk in a Chanel show in Cleveland. Maybe she wore Chanel shoes at a fashion show in Cleveland, but the way she phrases things is clearly intended to make them sound more impressive than they are. Major insecurity issues.

Natasha worries me. She's a very young Russian mail order bride who clearly doesn't understand a whole lot about the world around her yet. I feel bad for her, actually. I'm concerned about what happens to her after she goes home.

Yup, the makeover episode is this week, and from what I've seen in the previews, something goes wrong with one girl's hair - they end up cutting it off and starting over. (Or so the commercial leads you to believe - who knows what really happens!)

The makeover episode is always my favourite. SO predictable, and yet so enjoyable. ;)

A really famous model came in second the first season of Australia's Top Model: Gemma Ward. SO I am assuming the competition there actually produces models as opposed to the reality TV celebrities that Tyra crowns. What I found funny is that they were criticizing Ann from season two (or was it three?) in the last episode and she is the only model I have actually seen in magazines (Elle, Marie Clare).

Is anyone watching The Agency on VH1? Now that is the real modeling world! I still love me some ANTM though. :D

About the makeovers, none of them were really dramatic enough for me. And damn it, I wanted a meltdown. LOL!! :D I think Jael's original weave was horrible. Too bad they started off with that though because her final look was really fly! She looked much better without all that long, dark hair.

Brittney's red weave was nasty looking. She already looked like she wasn't taking care of it. It looked matted and ratty. On top of that it was itchy? Yuck!

I gotta go back and look at the photoshoot pics, but one of the girls with really short hair looked like a dude in her pic. The judges loved her though. I just thought she looked like a dude in some horrid "candied drag".

Cassandra wasn't working for me, so I wasn't sad to see her go. Something about her face just didn't do it for me. She cracked me up at the end when she said "I know I have what it takes to be a top model." Not wearing those ugly ass late 70's, white knee-boots. Poor thing. ;)

eta: I just realized I haven't said anything positive. I'll think about it and see what I can come up with. So far none of the girls stand out to me. I gotta go take a look at the photoshoot pics.

Here's my take on the makeovers:

Dionne - incredible makeover, she has the most gorgeous eyes - right now she is my top pick!

Felicia - loved the change they did with her hair!

Jael - poor girl, that looked SO painful and after finding out about her friend. I loved the color though, really made her eyes stand out.

Jaslene - Her new Hair really softened her face, but I agree she needs to give her photos a bit more personality.

Natasha - wasn't quite as annoying this episode, though she wasn't at all the focus so that could have been it. She looks too much like a man to me. :rolleyes:

Brittney - Thought they could have done something better with her hair and what was with the crying - Seriously girl take some Ibuprophen and suck it up! I still think she LOOKS like a model though - still one of my favorites in terms of look.

I'm so over Renee and Sarah it isn't even funny. Both are just way too "ordinary pretty girl" for me. And Renee needs to STF up!!! :mad:

I really likes Cassandra, but her photos were pretty lifeless.

Almost forgot Whitney and Diana - neither of their makeovers did much for me. Diana needs to let loose.

Brittany's hair really is a travesty. I think the fact she's done so well with that Raggedy Ann mess stapled to her skull says good things about her. But for real, Tyra - cut the damn weave out!

Jael just isn't pretty...and though she took "fierce" pictures (honestly, tyra, find a new adjective please), she has no poise, doesn't look good in person and is completely incoherent. i have to translate EVERYTHING she says to DH! He says she sounds like Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs (...she puts the lotion on her skin or else she gets the hose again...).

MAJOR props to Dionne. At this point, IMO she doesn't even need to win at this point (though I think she's transformed into a real contender). When Benny Medina hand-picks you and tells everyone on national tv that you are impressive and a star, then you are being handed a big gift. Good for her! Though I do think she was embarassed by the tears, especially since she normally is so poised.

As for Natasha? Great pics, but she's still annoying as all get-out. I'm glad she got brushed away by Benny after jumping in the pool. Moron.

I'll admit I was surprised to read that Sara is gone, but then again it makes sense when you look at which girls are remaining.

I think Adrienne was publicly bad mouthing Tyra and the show saying that she didn't become a top model and her opportunities dried up (well judging from her looks she looks better on the street corner than in a fashion mag. Sorry Peter Brady). So the show just decided to erase her from their history. Not that I can blame them since all the other winners are better looking than Adrienne.

I read an article recently (can't remember where) that said that the reason the show's winners were not making it as top models is that they are too old (most top models start in the business at around 14) and because the market todays favors Brazilians and Eastern Europeans. Glad Jael is gone. She took some very pretty shots, but last night in front of the camera she was just awful, and not pretty at all, and I was tired of the subtitles too.

I was also glad to see Brittany go... her behavior outside of the agency was rather childish... And the crying has got to stop!

In my heart, I am still routing for Jaslene and Dionne but something tells me those other two will see the final two spot. :(

I really liked Brittany at first...you know, back when all they showed of her was her good pictures. Before she whined ALL THE TIME. Good riddance.

I really like Jaslene, in spite of my initial wariness of her. She seems to be toning it down a little bit and coming off more professional, which is good. Natasha is amusing, but I feel like so much gets lost in translation with her, like when she didn't answer the designer's question as she was strutting around. :p

Renee is growing on me, too, but Dionne is all downhill. I think she should go next. We'll see!
