I read in TV Guide the other day that Alison Sweeney is going to replace Caroline Rhea as the host on the upcoming 4th season of The Biggest Loser.
Partial article from NBC(www.nbc.com)
Alison Sweeney, one of daytime television's most beloved actresses, joins NBC's hit reality show "The Biggest Loser" as the new host of the weight-loss series, which will begin taping its fourth season this spring.
"Alison is an incredible talent and will bring not only a great fresh face to the show but a huge, loyal fan base," said Ben Silverman, executive producer and Reveille CEO. "We are thrilled and look forward to another strong season."
Sweeney has portrayed villainess Sami Brady on NBC's hit daytime drama "Days of our Lives" since January 6, 1993 and will continue to star on the series while hosting "The Biggest Loser." For her performance tackling a variety of controversial storylines from a rebellious teen to an accomplished single mother on "Days," Sweeney has garnered numerous award including The Soap Opera Digest Awards four times (1986, '98, '99 and 2001) for the role of "Favorite Villain," "Favorite Good Girl" and "America's Favorite Villain." Her television credits also include "Las Vegas," "Friends," and her memorable freak-out on the celebrity edition of "Fear Factor."
Since her debut as "Sami Brady" on "Days of our Lives," Sweeney has personally struggled with her weight issues, which she candidly discussed in her book All The Days of My Life (So Far), which was published in 2004 to critical acclaim. She currently maintains her slim look by running after her 2-year-old son and working out at Boot Camp as many days a week as her production schedule allows.
Does anyone know when the 4th season is going to start? The website says they're still casting for it...
They were just here in SoCal casting just a week or two ago. I thought it was a mid-season kind of show.

I don't think it will be on until the fall.
They usually are on the ranch during the spring or summer and then home by themselves in the fall and the finale is before Christmas.
I am glad that Alison Sweeney will be hosting it. I think it is more of an inspiration for the contestants to have someone who has struggled with her weight and succeeded at keeping it off (guess that mean's that "Sami's" pregnancy on DOL isn't because Alison is pregnant again)

I think Alison Sweeny will be great!! She certainly will be more fashionable than Caroline Rhea - I could barely stand to watch her!! I would have still watched, but it will be nice to see a fresh, gorgeous face... Ali has the most beautiful eyes! The casting call in our area (Norfolk, VA) was about a month and a half ago.

Yeah, three teams this year (Red, Blue, and Black). And I think the other chicks name is Kim.

Looks like there are 3 teams this time and Kim Lyons is still one of the trainers. There's a preview of the show on the NBC site.
There's a special on September 4 called Where Are They Now? and they'll show if everyone kept the weight off. And we get to meet Suzy and Matt's new baby!
I'm so excited Jillian is back!!!
Do you think they'll re-air the premier? I'll be on a plane during the show. Yeah, I'm flying on 9/11.. eek!

I'm looking forward to the new season too. I had seen commercials for the "did they keep it off" episode but I didn't realize that it was so soon.
I wish they gave you more information on the food programs and how they eat. That might not be as entertaining.
I just browsed to Poppi's MySpace (the one who was the Biggest Loser of the "at home" group last season) from Amy's MySpace and she has information on what she ate (1100 calories a day with a certain mix of carbs/protein/fat) and her workout program (2 hours of cardio a day).

I cannot wait to see Jillian kick some butt this season! She seems so much more hardcore these days!
I thought the proposal last night was very cheesy. And distasteful... he did have a wife when he started his affair with Amy!
Looks like Matt didn't keep the weight off. But the entire show last night made me tear up. Pete is just an amazing human being!

Before seeing the show I thought that the whole "did they keep the weight off" thing would involve comparing their lowest weight on the show to their current weight...not their starting weight on the show to their current weight. I mean...duh...you could look at any of them who weighed in and tell that they hadn't gained it all back.

09-05-2007, 09:58 AM
I also though they were doing a you lost X pounds at the end of BL and now you kept off Y. I think most of them had actually gained back a little but they all looked so healthy and happy.
I saw an interview with Suzy and Matt and he gained "sympathy weight" while Suzy was pregnant. He said we are back at square one and have to do it all over again.
:eek:Marty was married!! I didn't know that and now I think it was very rude of him to do that.
Sazoo
09-05-2007, 10:27 AM
It must be really hard (emotionally, as well as physically) to work SO hard to lose all that weight and then have to gain some of it back because you are pregnant. I hope Suzy is able to get back to her healthy weight without too much struggle. Matt, too! Although I thought they both still looked pretty darn good... :)

I was disappointed that they didn't compare your last weight to your current weight. Yeah, they all kept some of it off, but some have gained. While loosing 100 lbs is a HUGE feat, if you've gained back 50, America wants to know that. And I read in People that Andrea is the only one that has actually lost additional weight since her finale show. I think some of the people actually look better now - more healthy I mean. The winner of last season was way too thin at the end- I think he's put on 30 lbs and he looks more "normal".
I didn't know Marty was married either. The proposal was definitely cheesy.
Matt definitely put a lot of it back on - hopefully the 2 of them can take it off together.
I am excited for Jillian to be back - that is going to be awesome.
I think Alison Sweeney is going to be a good host - I hope at some point they highlight her struggle with her weight.

Kai's blog about the proposal (I edited some of the language)
Ok, so I was gonna keep my big mouth shut- but we all know that it's not in my nature.
I just received a text message from a friend on the east coast that is watching the reunion show, I don't watch tv, don't even have it hooked up actually and if I did I wouldn't be watching anyway- other than to see how beautiful Pammy looks- anyway my best friend from highschool texts me telling me that Marty is going to propose to Amy on the show. Am I the only one who remembers Marty's WIFE!?!?!
ok, so I get it, things happen people fall in and out of love, even when you are married and Marty and I had a long talk about this when Amy was voted off the ranch and I approached him with how I felt about what all of us ranchers knew was an ongoing affair- I mean he moved into her room for chrissake, we weren't stupid-anyway he explained it all, and as much as I would have made different choices (for example telling my wife before beginning a new relationship) things happen. I have to say that I saw Amy and Marty as they fell in love, as did all of us on the ranch and I do believe sometimes things just happen no matter how hurtful they may be to others, LIKE YOUR WIFE.
Here is what pisses me off about the situation; (yes, it's none of my business but so f*ing what?!) At worst Marty and Amy are using their relationship as a marketing angle at best they are being used by 3Ball and NBC. This publicity stunt will help to promote their new personal training business and they can market themselves as the new "Matt and Suzy" and NBC ever looking after more publicity and money is more than happy to oblige. Guess what people Matt and Suzy WERE NOT CHEATING on a SPOUSE with each other at the ranch MARTY and AMY were, why are we rewarding this behavior as though it were an ideal fairytale to emmulate? Fat or thin, this is tacky [stuff]. Again, I get it- sometimes you can't help falling in love, but you CAN help the choices you make and the sensitivity you show toward someone you loved enough at one point to MARRY. You could have the decency to not flaunt your affair in the face of a woman who sent you off to a TV show that was supposed to change both your lives, a woman who worked her [butt] off to hold down the fort at home, lose weight and become healthier while you were gone. A woman who loved you before you were "Marty from The Biggest Loser" when you were just "Marty a teacher from the mid-west."
I get that NBC could give a [crap] about this woman, they care only about $, but come on Amy and Marty show some sensitivity. Seriously what the f*** is wrong with people?
* If you don't remember his wife that's because she was edited out of everything except the cruise episode, where she was his secret guest waiting for him, imagine how he [crapped] himself when he saw her, talk about an awkward boat trip for EVERYONE*
Does anyone else remember from last night's show how the host mentioned they started dating AFTER the show. I guess they didn't!

Ah, I think I was driving DH crazy because I would watch the little snippet about the person, tivo back to see their BL ending weight and tivo forward to compare it to their current weight. Yes, a lot of people gained weight back, but IMO it comes from an artificially low/unmaintainable weight (their final weight on the show) and it's to be expected.
I wonder if the producers didn't choose to do it that way - in part, trying to mask how unrealistic these losses are in the first place, and also to make people not feel bad about gaining weight?

Kai has also mentioned in her blog that most of them starve themselves the week before the finale and even do things to cleanse their colon in order to lose a bunch of weight at the end. Everyone always looks so sickly at the finale, so I'm glad to see them gain some weight back.

Everyone always looks so sickly at the finale, so I'm glad to see them gain some weight back. This does not surprise me (they are in a competition to win a lot of money, after all - plus they are on national TV), and I too am glad to see them gain a little bit of the weight back after that final weigh-in. They all look much healthier now. :)
I had forgotten that Marty was married during the show...I thought his proposal to Amy was kind of weird and tacky already, but now even more so. :( wish them well and all, but I think, due to the sensitive circumstances here it would have been better to keep their proposal more private. *shrug*

At the time they aired the episode where Marty was voted off, I thought it was kind of weird that they showed him going home to see his students (in the middle of the summer when school was out) instead of his family/friends. Now that I know the situation, I guess maybe things weren't so good between him and his family/friends (not just his wife) at that point...I can see how that would happen.
I agree that people looked more healthy than on their final episodes, I just find it weird that they made a whole big theme of "did they keep the weight off" and then only looked at it from their first weigh-in until now.

That just really bums me out about Marty AND Amy. That just isn't right and then to not even have enough decency to do the proposal in private. I hope his ex-wife has moved on and is happier without him!
As for how they did the weigh-ins (other than it being super cheesy w/ the "Did you keep the weight off" chant), I thought it was a good way to do it. Like others have said, most of their weights were so unrealistic during the finales. It's nice to seem them looking and living "normal". I think they all did great and, IMO, they have kept the weight off. I mean, no one gained back 100 pounds or anything!

I love this show!! I am SO glad Jillian is back- she is a badass!!
I guess this show has a special meaning to me because in May my brother died from complications after he had gastric bypass surgery. I SO wish that he had gone on a show like this, or tried harder (he DID try WW and others) to lose weight the natural way. It is just so awesome to me that these people put so much effort into their weightloss and really strive to help others so they don't get to that point.
Wow- I forgot that Marty was married! How tacky to propose on tv then. Sheesh!

It was a good episode. I like the three team twist. Can't wait to see everyones expressions when they see the black team. Even though I knew they weren't going anywhere, I was still crying when the now black team were not picked. They all looked so crushed and I felt so sorry for them feeling that way.

We watched tonight. Like the 3 team twist. It brought back memories of school days when you were waiting to be picked and then when you get settled for, felt so bad for the black team not being chosen, but then to see the twist was great.

Yay! I love this show! It's one of the very few reality shows I'll watch because it's focused on healthy habits and changing people's lives in a positive manner rather than catfights.
I'm a little sad to see Caroline Rhea gone, but Allison will definately be a great addition. I cannot tell you how physched I am that Jillian is back. The twist with the 3rd team is going to be awesome!!
I really enjoyed the first episode. I was amazed at Jerry's and Kae's weigh-ins tonight. I realize that a lot of it is probably water weight, but the numbers were shocking, especially considering that Kae is one of the smaller contestants starting out.
Looking forward to next week already! :)

Jillian is hard core, but I love her! SO glad she is back!
I think Allison Sweeney (who I keep calling Sami - darn it!) is going to do a great job. She has struggled with her weight on camera for years, and I can tell she just feels for these people. A few times I could have sworn she was tearing up (when she had to send the "black" team home - even though she knew they weren't going anywhere!!)

Leslie - sure, some is going to be water weight. But, in addition to that, they are in a situation that sets themselves up to lose large amounts of weight. If you were eating a perfect diet and exercising for like 5-6 hours per day, you'd loose that much too! So, while most of us can say, oh water weight, I lost X amount quick too, in that environment, you'll continue to see large losses each week. It always amazes me how much they lose, but I remember that this is the sole focus for them right now.

The woman, Kae that lost the most was in the Military so she really has discipline on her side. She is going to go far I think, even when she hits that plateau we all face when losing weight.
I can't wait to see the black team show up and shock the pants off the red and blue teams. It was priceless the look on Kim's face when she saw how much Kae lost in the 1st weigh in.

I tuned in last night without having heard the news that there would be a third team, so that came as a huge shock to me. I'm looking forward to seeing how the boot camp approach compares to the gym approach, acknowledging that it's not a random selection. The early weight loss seems to depends so much on starting weights.
I thought that the display of food was melodramatic and not particularly helpful. Honestly, I've eaten six hot dogs at a time, and I weigh 105 pounds! (I don't think I could eat a gallon of ice cream, but I could easily eat a half gallon.)

Yeah, I would think the weight would just melt right off with that much exercise. I was just stunned that they lost that much in one week.
I was really touched at how the girl trainer (can't remember her name) was telling the paramedic girl she wouldn't let her quit and she was crying while talking to her. She clearly cares about these people and wants to help them which is just awesome.

Jillian wasn't forced out from all the things I have read. She just had a lot of things on her plate that she decided to leave the show. She does a talk show in LA and other things caused her to decide to leave. Nothing was definitely as to what the other things were from what I read.
She was on The View yesterday. It was so funny. I was in the hospital waiting to get my glucose drink and she had Elisabeth, Sherry and another pregnant woman all doing pregnancy exercises and you could help but laugh at Sherry, she rolled off the exercise ball 2 times and Jillian was even laughing about it, yet trying to stay professional of course.

This season looks like its going to be great. I wonder how many of them were totally bummed when they pulled up to a college campus, and they have to sleep in one big girl, and one big boy dorm room? LOL Especially since the ranch from the last seasons was such a beautiful, "vacation" destination!! There won't be any couples hooking up this year if they all have to share rooms! haha
I love Jillian, she's an awesome trainer! I've love to do her workouts! All that outdoors stuff looked awesome!! Can't wait to see how much the black team looses in two weeks!

GoCougs - the building had Biggest Loser Campus etched into the stone, so doesn't look like it's a university at all. (Update: found this info on the Campus: The series location also changed from a million dollar ranch to a studio backlot aptly named the "Biggest Loser Campus". The setting feels a little more claustrophobic and it will be interesting to see how the producers adapt the challenges throughout the series to the more confined space.)
For those that missed the episode here is the recap:
Recap The Biggest Loser
A two hour Premiere - Let the Games begin
by Becca
The fourth season of The Biggest Loser kicks off its season premiere tonight. Starts out with America not knowing how this would work, and then they heard the stories and moved by the transformations. It’s all about turning hopelessness to hope. A new way of life for them all. Kim and Bob help the battle to who gets the biggest loser title. We get an introduction to a new team headed by Jillian Michaels and she’s tougher than ever. She is training them secretly off campus. 18 will compete but only one will bring home 250,000. A few competitors that face this difficult challenge includes Jerry a 62 year old the oldest person ever to be on the show, a set of twins and a Hurricane Katrina survivor.
Alison Sweeney is new comer host for this show. She herself as an actress has struggled with her own weight. The show begins at the competitors walk in the desert to meet up with each other and some of their emotional stories are revealed. Alison Sweeney welcomes them and asks “Are you up to the challenge? “ The first thing the competitors have to do is race each other to where Bob Harper and Kim Lyons, the Red and Blue team’s trainers. The first two people who do so are the captains and each of them has to choose five members to be on their team. The six remaining members who do not get picked are told that they are going home. Jerry was the first person to Bob so he became that captain for the blue team. Phil followed Jerry in suit and became the captain for the red team. They all went out to get Amber the final person to the finish line. Alison tells them all they are going to the Last Chance Diner and chat and learn about each other and think about the six people they don’t want on their teams. Jerry picks first and he chooses Kae, followed by Neil, Patty, Nicole, Ryan. Phil picks Bryan, Amber, Amy, David and Lezley. The two teams head off on the bus while the six remaining watch in disappointment, and mix feeling are shown. Until that is Jillian Michaels rides up in a motorcycle and shares with them that they are not going home that they are the new black team.
Welcome to Biggest Loser Campus: with no frills an no distractions, they move directly to the first dreaded weigh in They head to the gym and head to the dreaded scale. time for first Phil starts it off- before weigh in commercial starting weight is 403, Amber 395 lbs, David 368, Lezley-255lbs, bryan-346lbs, Amy 297 lbs, Jerry- 297lbs, Kae 225lbs, Ryan 374, Patty 280, Nicole 279lbs, Neil-421 lbs.
Jillian makes them move tires and trains them like crazy workouts- there’s no I can’t. She makes them do 20 jumping jacks because of an apology.13 days until arrival to campus. Bob and his blue team to the gym and he works them like anything. Kim in her gym is killing them with her workouts. They ran and Amber gets emotional and wants to go home. Kim believes in her and will work with her. Maybe the last but she didn’t quit. Bob goes over nutrition with his team-carbs early day, proteins later-high calorie go to low cal gum-drink plenty water. Kim talked about cal break carbs protein fat. Bob and Kim blind folds and moved them to tables loaded with unhealthy food, what they consume in a week. Bob and Kim threw it all on the floor. Done with the junk and ready to move on…back to Jillian’s team continues to work her teams hard. Ten days and still getting ready to show those teams up.
Teams are airport-goal weights Alison asked-challenge-first team to carry all access baggage –they have to lug a plane with their baggage across the finish line-winning letters from home and only the winning team gets the prize. Commercial comes as we see them take off to get all their luggage in the plane…blue has great lead as they pull their plane while red team finally gets all their bags on and takes the lead and wins first challenge and they get to enjoy their letters. Red teams read their letters and miss their families. Kim takes her team to last chance work out and she works it. Bob encourages his team as they go through their last chance work out. Patty got sick.
Alison explains at the final weigh in that the team wit the lowest weight loss will have to send a member home. Bob and Kim watch their teams endure the scale yet again. 1876lbs for the blue team 1964 red team-greatest percentage of weight loss Bryan-331-15 lbs, Lezley-255-246-9 lbs, Amy-297-287-10lbs, David-368-348-20lbs, amber-295-288-7lbs, Phil-403-377-26lbs Red team total- 87 total per 4.43 percent
Blue team- team has to lose more than 83 lbs-Patty-280-267-13lbs, Ryan 374-359-15lbs, Nicole-279-271-8lbs, Neil-421-399-22lbs, Kae-225-205-20 lbs, Jerry-297-266-31lbs-blue team wins!! Jerry out of all season has the biggest weight loss in one week! 109 lbs
Red team-goes home Phil is safe. Kim talks to them, as the team members complain about Amber and thinks that she let them down. Amber comes back and says Ill try and Ill give 100 percent.
Red teams takes there votes to send some one for first elimination-most votes have to go home. One vote for Amber, 3 more and she’s gone- one vote for Lezley, Amber does get three more votes so Amber goes home with four votes against her. Amber lost 65 pounds since being kicked off.

From TitanTv.com:
The immunity challenge has the red and blue teams racing up the stairs of a 10-story building. Then, the secret black team is revealed in the weigh-in room, creating a three-way competition.

Loved the episode last night. And I'm so glad one of the women on the black team mentioned she was diagnosed with PCOS, something I struggle with every day. And PCOS is probably the reason why she's losing slowly on the show.
So happy to see the black team's results!!! I wanted to slap Kim for her golf clap whenever anyone else besides her team weighed in.

Andrea - I was happy to see a fellow "cyster" on the show as well. However, I think she'll be the first to go on the black team unless she seriously starts stepping up on the loss. Five pounds IRL is great. Five pound on TBL is nothing in two weeks. I mean, look at that woman who started a bit heavier than her on the blue team - she's up to 25 pounds lost. While I know that PCOS can slow down your losing (and I've experienced it many, many times!) I would hope that the trainers/dr's that are working for the show would know the necessary diet for a woman with PCOS.

I was thinking that too. I'll be really upset if Jillian doesn't address it soon, and if the woman is voted off early.

Yay for having a "cyster" represent! Losing is so hard. I know it's hard for her to see 5lbs total when everyone else is in double digits.
I didn't care if Lezley or Amy went home. Both of them should have in my eyes. Lezley whines and whines, and Amy walked out.

I wasn't sad to see Lezley leave, but I can't wait for Amy to go home as well. I liked Amber way better than either of them. At least she stayed and tried.
I was happy to see that Lezley has continued to lose at home though - that's always a good thing. I hate when they do the flash forwards and they haven't lost anything.

I was too. I mean Lezlye didn't lose as much (by one pound IIRC), but Amy's attitude stomping out just irritated me to no end, even more than L's whining. The two of them were right about one thing though - now that Lezlye is gone, Amy will be next on their team.

I thought that it was interesting how much less weight was lost this week than the first week. They were still very impressive numbers, but less eye-popping.
In prior seasons, did they compare the percentage of weight lost, as they are this year, or a direct comparison of the pounds lost? I feel like it was the latter, but I never watched regularly, so I'm guessing based on memory.

I love Bob and Jillian together....When she jumped on him and swung her legs around his hips I just could only imagine the crazy trainer sex they('d) have.
Amber, Lezlye, Amy....all three of them IMO were poor picks for girl team mates. They all seemed to have bad attitudes about the whole thing. (ETA...once the work outs started).

I just have to say that I LOVE Bob's encouraging ways! If I was on his team (or a client) I would totally do what I could to make him proud and happy (and lose some serious weight) :)
Now, I think I could get into working with Jillian, too. I did like that the black team was going through drills on the beach. Very cool!
But the blonde chick/trainer...what is her name? I could not stand her! Although I did not like the way some of her team was whining and behaving, I did not see myself giving my all with her. Something about her was just not inspiring.
IMHO....
Other than that, looks like a good show!

I love Bob - I would want him to be my trainer. Kim is too soft, she even looks too soft for me. I could probably handle Jillian, but Bob would be more fun.
I was shocked at how little the red team lost compared to the other two teams. I can't figure out if it is just that they don't want it as much or if it has to do with Kim. I think she's not as forcefull as she needs to be. But the women on the red team just don't seem to want it that bad. Someone like Kae on the Blue team or Julie on the Black team, they really want it and have really strong reasons for wanting it.
I was happy to see how well Lezley (sp?) had done since leaving.

I've never liked Kim...blah. The red team just sucks, the girls' attitudes suck and that vendeta that the team captain has over the old guy in team blue is just weird. Dude, get over it! He's a 62 year old man...get over yourself!

Taraw~There were 2 challenges last night.
The first one was a temptation. They were put in a room with a TON of food (I think the number was around 400,000 calories worth) and told they could eat as much or as little as they wanted in 4 minutes. The person who ate the MOST got a 3-lb pass at weigh-in. Patty from the blue team won.
The second challenge was a 100 meter dash. There were three heats. In each heat, a member of each team raced against a kid - kindergartener, 3rd grader, and 4th grader. Anyone who beat the kid counted as a win for their team. The team with the most wins got to call home. Red team won.
Blue Team~I was really irked with who they sent home as well. I told DH before the elimination room that they could send anyone but Jerry or Kae home, and I would be okay with it. I thought it would be unfair for them to send Neil home this week as well because of the whole temptation challenge thing. I love though that Jerry is doing so well at home. ITA with whoever said he was one hot grandpa! :o I have to wonder though what impact this will have at weigh-ins for the blue team.

I also didn't like how he was such an @ss at the end - I picked this team and thought the biggest loser would be on this team, but I don't think it is anymore.
And then he went on to hug people and be like 'good luck buddy' - just seemed very bitter. But he seems to have turned that bitterness around and into his workouts.
I wondered if the girl who ate the food would have a higher loss than the others. It would probably do them all well to get some more calories every other week or so to spike their metabolism and keep their body guessing.

I think Jerry was a total jerk during the pre-vote conversation. To suggest that everyone owed their places there to him was silly. He may have been the guy who selected the team and he may be called the captain, but it seems like they are all equal members and I would have been a bit insulted to be told that I owed him something or that without him, they wouldn't be successful. For those reasons alone, I think he deserved to be voted out.
Beyond that, the guy lost so much weight up front, that I'd be worried from a strategy standpoint that he might have already seen the bulk of his loss. So I also see where they were coming from strategically.

When he said that he thought that he deserved some respect, I took it to mean that he was the oldest person on the show and yet he was the first person to the trainers in the race on day one. He also seemed to work his tail off and because of that he was the person on the blue team who had lost the most weight so far. I think for those reasons he did deserve a little bit of respect. But maybe some stuff is edited out for TV that we didn't get to see. I thought it was odd that no one really gave a reason for choosing him. Maybe he did act "high and mighty" and we just didn't see all of that in the show, but from what we did see, I think he seemed like a very nice respectable man.

OTOH, it was the blue team's own under-estimation of the red team that put them in that situation. Bob was right about them not even trying the challenge.
Mine and DH's prediction for next week is that they will send everyone home for a week, and then come back for the weigh-in to see how they do on their own out in the real world. Of course, on the previews you still see the black team working out with Jillian, so maybe they're given the option of going home or staying as a team.
miaclear~Mmmmm Subway! I kept thinking through that whole scene though that I would be getting a serious scolding from Bob because I cannot have Subway without my Chipolte dressing! :o Oh well, maybe he could overlook it since I pile those subs high with veggies! ;)

I am always skeptical of reality show challenges where they don't reveal the prize until the winner is determined. It makes me think that maybe the change the prize depending on who wins. If another Red went home, it would have made challenges difficult at it would have been 6 to 5 to 3. It makes sense to me that they would have given a small to the Black, had they won (5 pounds) a slightly bigger prize to the Blues (7 pounds), or immunity to the Reds, to try and even out their numbers.
If the campus shut down means that they are totally on their own, with no trainer, I have to believe the black and blue teams will do so much better than the red team. However, since the red team has lost so much less weight, especially this week, they seem to have a huge advantage there.

From the previews, it looks like they have to take the training into the real world as they showed Jillian's team working out at the beach. I think it would be cool for them to have to camp out and work out. Wouldn't that suck!
I was really disappointed in the blue team last night. I think they are always trying to take the easy way out. While I love Bob, I think he needs to push them more and make them take more responsibility for their situation.

I understood why they did this (not agreeing since the Red team sucked and Bob got majorly screwed) because if they kept sending red people away, Kim would be w/o a team to train. This sorta levels the playing field. I still say everyone in the Red Team didn't deserve the immunity!

I think the black team made a mistake sending Jim home. This early in the game, you need to send home the weakest people, not the ones that have the potential to pull in big numbers for your team! Isabeau should have been the one. Oh well.
Is anyone else constantly amazed at how well every.single.person. who has got sent home so far has done on their own losing weight? I just get blown away every time I see the transformation; its so inspiring and great to see. Jim looks fantastic and I can't believe he has lost 123 pounds!
The black team remains my favorite. I want the biggest loser to come from them.

I agree that he wasn't the wise person to be sent home, one of the girls would have been a better choice. However, those girls were playing the game and knew that if there were less of them next week, they'd likely get picked off easier. I don't think any of them have done all that stellar yet. Getting Jez involved to avoid a tie was smart, and Jez likely did it to save his own ass just in case they go to elimination again.
I too am amazed by all the transformations - truly inspiring seeing them do it at home. :)

Biggest Loser Fans ... I need help!
3 weeks ago during Bob's Trainer Tip (during one of the commercial breaks), he was promoting an exercise ball. I thought he called it a physio ball but turns out that isn't the name. It looks like a smaller version of an exercise ball. It has a rounded bottom and a flat (think platform) for a top. Apparently, you use it be build up your core. I want one but no one no where knows what I am talking about. Do any of you? If so, what is the real name?
TIA!!

I was impressed last night with the big numbers all 3 teams put up last night. It was insane! I think I was most excited though that Hollie finally put up a large number - 8 pounds! She has seemed so frustrated in the last few weeks with her 2 and 3 pounds.
Again, I'm baffled as to why teams are sending home their big losers this early, but I guess if they are all doing it, they'll still remain relatively even. *shrug*

While you're all right that you usually shouldn't send your biggest loser on the team packing this early, I can understand why they sent Jim home. Two reasons:
1. As the pp said, the girls knew that if one of them went home, the rest of them probably had no chance of making it through to the end. The men always seem to pick off the women.
2. They had to break the twins up. Those guys would always vote the same way to save one another, and it just wasn't safe for any of the other members as long as they were both there.

For once last night, I actually agreed with Kim's position about training/eating. I think she was right to say it was Ok to have a drink. Everything in moderation. When you forbid people to have things or make them taboo, that is when they will binge on it. The only way they are going to be able to make it in the real world, is to learn about moderation. One beer isn't going to ruin their diet, if that's what they want and account for it on their diet plan.

10-17-2007, 07:42 AM
From nbc.com:
Bob was upset that his Blue team had yet to win a challenge. He was pushing his team and getting more and more frustrated with how lazy they were becoming.
All three teams went to the beach for their next challenge. The object of the game was to test strength endurance, something all three teams needed work on. The winner of the challenge was going to receive videos from friends and family back home. The challenge began and each team had one player start. The chosen player had to carry beams that were a percentage of their weight across the beach, when they got tired, they dropped the weighted beams and the next team member was set to carry the beams with their percentage of weight. The Black team started strong. The Black team started strong, but the Red pulled ahead and finished with the help of Phil’s strength endurance. Phil led his team to victory and now the Red team was anxious to hear from their loved ones. The Red team watched videos sent from home. Each team member got emotional as they listened to the messages from their friends and family.
Kim was losing patience with her Red team during their workouts. They were not giving one hundred percent. Things escalated when David walked out of the gym after Kim tried to get him to run faster on the treadmill.
Jillian had the terrible job of telling Hollie that her step-dad called with the news her mom’s cancer came back. Hollie rushed home later that night to see her mom and promised she would come back. Alison broke the news to the teams that Hollie’s mom had passed away shortly after Hollie arrived back home. But, the weigh in still had to continue. All the teams had Hollie on their minds.
The Blue team was excited about their results from the weigh in. The Blue team had lost a total of 31 pounds with a 2.74% of weight loss. Kim was very disappointed at the Red team’s weigh in. Her team didn’t pull in as high of numbers as she was pushing for. The Red team lost a total of 16 pounds and had a 1.28% of weight loss, putting the Blue team ahead. The Black team was happy with their results at the weigh in. They lost a total of 30 pounds with a 2.36% of total weight loss. The Blue team was thrilled to have won the overall weigh in.
Emotions ran high as the Red team had to think about who to send home. When Kim said Phil and Bryan were the strongest ones on the team, Amy felt Kim was telling the Red team to send her home. During the elimination round, the Red team came to a tie between sending Amy or Phil home. That meant it was up to the Blue team to decide. They showed up with the name of team member who would be going home. The Blue team chose for the main competitor, Phil to be eliminated and go home. Phil broke down and cried. He told his team it was an honor for him to be on the show and told his team to remain strong.
I do not trust Amy at all!!!

I cannot believe the red team let it go to a tie. That was a terrible mistake. Without Phil the team is going to be hurting, big time. Amy should have been the one to go home, I do not like her at all. And like lindybug stated, I don't trust her. Plus did you see how pathetic she did on the challenge? She carried her beams a total of like 23 feet. I don't think the red team will be winning any more challenges without Phil, he was the one who won all of those challenges for them.
What a terrible time for Hollie, thank God she made it home in time to see her mother before she passed.

I don't want to see them combine teams yet, I want to see the red team suffer. They deserve a bigger downfall. I too, can't stand Amy. I also was very unimpressed with the fact that the red team doesn't seem like they have as strong a bond as the other teams. There was no emotion at last nights vote except when Phil left. I do agree with Kim that he and B were carrying that team.
Kae is doing awesome, she has such a great mental background for this kind of weight-loss, I think she just struggled before the show to get going on it. Like so many of us do. I'm sure she won't be the biggest loser, but out of all the women I think she is doing the best right now.

Amy should have left the first time they faced a vote off based on her suck-y attitude (walking out on a work out?!?!). It looks like she got into Bryan's head (like she did the first time w/ that other woman) to force a tiebreaker after Kym specifically told them she did not want that.
She is the least deserving of the whole group to stay there. Plus the red team will never win anything again. It would be interesting next week when they reshuffle. I'd like to see who Amy gloms onto. I hope the other groups show more solidarity and vote her sorry self out.

I agree that Amy should have been the one voted off, but it really wasn't Kim's place to say who should go. She's a trainer and her job is to motivate her team and get them to lose weight. We knew David was exempt from being eliminated. Then Kim said that Phil and Bryan were pulling the team and if they were gone, then the rest of the team members would be picked off one by one. She did imply that Amy should be the one voted off since it didn't leave anyone else. Again, I agree it should have been Amy but it wasn't her place to say that.

I think the show is pushing for the trainers to be MUCH more involved this time around. They were never at weigh in's before this season and they were not usually with the team when they deliberated who would be eliminated. I like that they are more involved. They also can be somewhat objective and so emotionally involved as the contestants. Kim was right. The red team doesn't stand a chance in challenges since Phil is gone. Of course, it may not mean that much if they are mixing up teams this week anyway!

I agree. I like that the trainers are more involved, it makes much more sense in the long run your trainer is going to be there weighing and measuring you to see results.
I was a little offended by Kim's attitude in the workout. She doesn't need to stoop to their level and use the f word to them. Overall though, it won't matter soon anyway if they are mixing the teams up. I guess 12 people are left so it will be teams of 4?

Didn't that rant she went on seem to be totally for the camera? She had a bit of a smirk the whole time she yelled at him. Even though her "cheerleader" training style wouldn't really motivate me at all, I respect that it's the way she approaches training, and that's fine. The tough girl act just came out of nowhere, and seemed really fabricated and unlike her.
Ever since she started last season, I always find myself rooting against the red team. Part of it is Kim, I think, but also that the red team always seems to be full of mouthy, mean people. Brian is the only red this season who hasn't had attitude. Jim was okay [eta: oops, I meant Phil], but he had that vendetta against the old guy, which was a bit crazy.

He drank two gallons of water just before the weigh in. Jerk off! I really want a black team member to win. He kind of confessed to it by accident. Everybody had thought Neil purposely gained the weight to throw the game. He came downstairs to defend himself and swore up and down that he no intentions for gaining the weight. It wasn’t until Neil started talked about how somebody would gain that much weight in one week, Hollie started asking questions and Neil’s cover was blown.

Wow, I thought I was going to be all about hating Kim this week (Amy annoys me, but Kim was ridiculous in her whining about Amy's switching to Jillian for training being "disrespectful" of her). And then...Neil.
Yeah, I guess the rules allow for it, but that doesn't make it less sleazy and underhanded. And it's not like Survivor, where you just go back to your regular life at the end. TBL is supposed to be about a lifestyle change and getting healthy long-term, not slimy manipulation. I'm sure much more of that goes on behind the scenes than we ever see anyway, but this was just so over the top.
I want Jillian to kick Neil's ass into next week. (Which she could do without even breaking a sweat.) And I want Bob to refuse to train him. (I absolutely refuse to believe that Bob was secretly in on it.) I wonder if the show would permit him to do that? I mean, they told the contestants that they were now free to choose whichever trainer they wanted to work with, but I don't know if that means they'd let a trainer choose which contestants they wanted to (or not to) work with.

I was all on the Kae train, and I hate to think that she was in on Neil's sleazy scheme. But she would have had to be, because otherwise she and Hollie (black team) could have prevented David (red team) from voting Jez off. She was the only one who didn't eat in the temptation and she was so vocal about how this is about lifestyle change, not game play tactics, so it seems really hypocritical for her to then go along with Neil's plan.

I was so angry last night at the remaining blue team members. They should have stood up for themselves and voted with their new team members to get rid of Neil. I don't buy that they should be loyal to their former team mates. It is a game and you are on a new team now. Be loyal to that team and what the game is about...changing your mindset to be healthy. I know that the biggest loser wins $$, but that should not be the ultimate goal. The ones that have played to get healthy in the past have done well in the game.

People were talking about this on the Television Without Pity boards. Apparently there are two weigh-ins; a "real" one about an hour before they tape the one with the big beeping scale, and then the "for the cameras" one. So Neil would only have had to hold his water (heh) for that first weigh-in, then he could go pee like a racehorse before the taping because that scale doesn't "weigh" you, it just displays the numbers from the real weigh-in. So no risk of wetting himself in front of the cameras.

I always suspected that they weighed in earlier so that the producers could then choose the order of the contestants based on dramatic effect. You knew they saved Neil for last on purpose. It always seems to work out like that.

That episode made me so mad. I think there is going to be a lot of fall out from it next week. I really want Neil and Amy to go home.
I was so happy that Amy hadn't lost a pound. I don't think Kim was in the right with Amy, but I think Amy is one of the worst contestants I've ever seen on this show. She just doesn't know what pushing herself is and she is such a baby!
My votes with the remaining Black team and I still like the 2 red guys.

So Isabeau pretty much says without using so many words that she thinks (although she doesn't know) that Bob was in on it. I see her point, and she clearly knows a lot more about it than anyone on the outside, but I still hope she's gauged it wrong. But it was a fascinating read for sure! I wish Hollie's blog weren't friends-only--I'd love to read her take as well.
Very interesting about how the voting worked--that they might have been able to force a tie if someone (must have been Dave or Kae) hadn't leaked to the third team that they were voting for Jez, not Isabeau.

ok....just reading her blog but when she mentioned how the black team was a family and did this and that and the other together....then she says "Threw up together".....um weird. I'm fairly certain she's meaning threw up from the constant hard workouts, but kinda odd.

I read somewhere else that that's an old photo of her. Per the BL contract, she's not allowed to reveal her "new self" until the finale. (excluding the people she sees in her life, obviously)

Well, that makes sense. I was wondering why the powers that be would allow her to post a photo.
But still! She really is pretty.

I seriously doubt that Bob would encourage a 17 lb weight gain. I know he has more integrity than that.

It says that was from her "2005 album cover" - so it looks like it is an old picture.
That was a very interesting read - she does basically say that Bob was in on it because it would have never happened without his approval. Not sure what to think but I would hope he wasn't in on it - pretty crappy if someone who is supposed to be helping people would pull a deliberate sabotage play.

I just watched that scene again where Bob finds out about Neil, and he has veins popping out of his neck and jaw as he's talking. That makes me think he was truly angry about it. If he was in on it, he's a great actor.

I'm trying to figure out, are Dave and Neil good friends? Why would he vote for Jez instead of the guy trying to rig the system?

I think the trios were voting based on majority therefore if 2 on your team is going to swing for Jez, then you're outnumbered.

Correct, I imagine Hollie voted for Neil, Kae voted for Jez, which came down to Dave as the tie breaker.

This weeks epi was kind of interesting. Blue and Red together to get rid of Black last week, at least according to Amy. BTW, I really hate Amy. I think she is a poor sport and just plain annoying.
I didn't read Isabeau's entry, but I still don't think Bob was in on it. His role as a trainer would be in jeopardy to play the contestants like that.
I really hope Kae wins it all. She is awesome.

I think Bob was semi in on it. Granted this is all edited but he didn't seem all that disgusted and when he was talking with Kai, it seemed like he was trying to convince all that happened wasn't so bad.

I've been reading along and watching the show and honestly, I think what Neil did was wrong, but I don't think he was the only one to throw the weigh in last week. After watching last night, I think several people did it. They just weren't so obvious about it.

No, but do you think he encouraged a no loss or low loss week?

I really don't know considering he never did that in the other seasons. Remember, Jillian's people always beat Bob's in the previous seasons. So if he did endorse something like that, wouldn't he have pulled it in the previous shows? It's nothing new here, Jillian's people outnumber Bob's...

Yes, but I suspect they were all in cahoots with one another.

I think the right person went home last night. With the amount of weight he has to lose, it didn't seem like he was losing a lot each week.
So glad Julie is still around, my fellow PCOS girl! She's doing such an amazing job!

Does this season seem much more competitive in respects to the ultimate prize than the previous seasons? It does to me. There seems to be much more manipulation and scheming. I don't particularly like that part of it.
I'm still peeved at Neil for his weight gain, and now he sends his "best bud" home. Yuck.

There were some really impressive losses last night, given how far into things they are. I agree that it was good that Ryan went home...he definitely didn't seem to be pushing himself the way Isabeau has been.
I love it when they reach the point that they start showing their "before" and "after" pics when they weigh in. It's interesting how some people who haven't necessarily lost as much look remarkably different from their starting pictures, and others (I'm thinking of Bill) don't look that much different. Don't get me wrong, he's lost 80-plus pounds and he looks great, but there were others whose before and afters were much more startling.

I seriously dislike Neil for that stunt he pulled 2 weeks ago, but yesterday I felt so proud of him for reaching his 100 lbs lost mark. His b&a pictures were amazing!! I'm glad Ryan went home too and I'm glad he's doing so great. He has a Mark Ruffalo look going on now (MR is still way hotter, but go Ryan!).

Ugh, Neil just disgusts me! I hate even looking at him because he looks like the kind of guy that would push you in front of a bus if it meant saving his own life. He's such a creep. The look on Ryan's face when his "best bud" sent him packing pretty much said it all.
Usually I get really emotional and proud when someone hits the 100 lb mark, but I felt nothing when he did!
I'm 100% black team!!! :D

I about cried when Julie got her car. DH and I have had to sacrifice quite a bit (granted not a car) to have me SAH, so I get some of where she's coming from. I am so happy for her!
I love that they have the before and after shots during weigh-ins this time. It shows really how far they have come with their weightloss! Plus, despite the jerk he has been in the last couple of weeks, I am so, so proud of Neil's milestone!
No real strong feeling either with Ryan going home. I didn't like though that Neil didn't even "fight" to keep him there.

I'm on the "not into Neil" bandwagon too. Sure, great, he lost 100 pounds - doesn't change the fact that he's a jerk.
I'm glad Ryan went home. He just didn't seem like he was trying hard enough...there are a few people I've felt that way about this season.
I loved that Julie won the car - good for her!
I'm not liking this 3 team, trio, duo thing much this season. It just seems really disconnected to me. I think it would be really hard being at the campus and constantly having to make those changes - just not sure what they are trying to accomplish with it.
