Hi Ladies,

I am going on to my 8th week and so far its been torture. I can't wait to be in the third month.

I am soooo nauseaus and to top it off I can't get rid of this bad breath. I even smell it on myself and it make me even more nauseaus!:(

WHy is this happening???? I did not have this when I was pregnant with my DD. All I do all day is use mouthwash and brush my teeth and tongue. But, nothing seems to help.

Anyone have any advice? Am I the only one with this? :(

Thanks

Well, lets start with the obvious. Are you getting enough to drink? One of the biggest reasons people get bad breath is because they are dehydrated. Try drinking lots of water (if your tummy can handle it)

I googled pregnancy and bad breath and one of the sites came up said if you are pregnant and suffering chronic bad breath that you should see your dentist right away.

I also read that chewing on raw celery can help. (again, if you are able to eat it)

ETA: I wanted to also congratulate you on your pregnancy! Hope it goes well for you!

oh, i have this horrific symptom too. i think it may be caused by an exess of saliva and phlegm. to make matters worse brushing my teeth is torture bc it makes me gag. the only saving grace about it all is that it is forcing me to floss every single day. i also think it is caused by changes in digestion that may increase the gases.

i don't have any advice as i haven't figured out how to eliminate it. i was thinking about going to the dentist for a cleaning, but i don't think i could make it through an appt without throwing up.

My mother said she experienced bad BO too! I'm hoping that I'll get lucky and won't experience the same. Don't you just love how your hormones are all out of whack during pregnancy? :D

First of all Congratulations!!!

I didn't have a bad breath problem but if I didn't shower right away in the morning I could smell the BO from myself and it made me gag. This went away after I was about 12 weeks or so. Hang in there!

I have something that may cure both problems--when I was pregnant, I worked, in all places, at a bakery. The first 3 months were H*LL!!! The only way to get through it was to chew Extra bubble gum (pink package). I think the saliva production and keeping my mouth busy helped with the m/s (kept me swallowing so I didn't actually puke), and it helped with my breath too.

Also, make sure you brush your tongue after you puke, and keep flossing regularly, if you can stand it.

HTH!! And congrats!!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I didn't have bad breath, mine was more of a bad taste in my mouth. It was horrible and food would sometimes make it worse.

I chewed a lot of Big Red gum, the strong cinnamon taste helped me out a lot. This passed after about a month, so hopefully you won't have to deal with it for the whole 9 months.
