After viewing the 'Show us your rings' thread I noticed that some have three rings. I was just wondering what the significance of the third is?

You mean one engagement ring and two wedding bands?? If that's what you mean then I'll have three rings (and he will have two). There's no significance there for us, I just want two wedding bands :)
Before we bought engagement rings we decided that we would both wear our engagement rings on our right ring fingers. No one seems to understand this, but we did it for a couple of reasons; he doesn't like the look of stacked rings, we wouldn't have to pick the same metal for both engagement rings and weddings bands (so they wouldn't wear each other down), because he also wanted an engagement ring and wanted to wear it on the same hand I was wearing my mine on (and didn't want to stack or give up one later), and because we wanted matching wedding bands that we knew would clash with my engagement ring.
For wedding band we wanted matching rings...so we decided on a design-which we will both wear on our left ring finger with our engagement rings staying on our right right fingers. Well, our matching wedding bands are new and I also wanted an antique wedding band. I couldn't decide between something practical that matched and something pretty that was fragile and wouldn't match at all...So I'm getting both!!
Kristen will put both of my wedding bands on my left ring finger when we are married and I will chose on a daily basis which I want to wear. We travel a lot and do a lot of camping, etc so I won't be wearing my very delicate 1920s ring on those trips. I get both my overly practical and overly girly side filled.
Really long explaination. I hope that's what you were asking for!

Thanks for responding. I guess my question was if two are wedding bands and one engagement, or if one was something different.
I guess I have also seen one that resembles a typical e-ring, then one band that is plain, and one band that has diamonds/other jewel. So was just wondering. :p

Yeah, I have one typical e-ring, one plain matching band, and one 1920s delicate, lacy band with diamonds.

Some people don't like the way that their e-ring and wedding band sit together, so they choose a plainer band to sit between the two and all the rings will sit flush.
I wear three rings stacked much of the time -- my engagement ring, my wedding band, and a diamond and sapphire band that my DH gave me for Christmas about a year before we got engaged. There's no great reasoning behind it; I just like the way they all look together. Sometimes I only wear my wedding and engagement rings.
I have a few friends who got married in Jewish ceremonies and therefore had to get married with a solid, unbroken band of metal but still wanted diamond wedding bands. They each have an engagement ring, the solid gold band used in the ceremony, and a diamond wedding band. A couple of my friends don't wear all three all the time, but one always wears the solid ring in between her e-ring and diamond band.

I plan on having three rings when I'm all married and "diamonded-out" LOL
my wedding band (closest to me), the e-ring (in the middle) and an anniversary band that will match my wedding band (furthest away).
Now, I would *like* to have my anniversary band for my first wedding anniv., but it all depends on our financial sitaution...and I may have to wait a few years ;)

Both my mom and aunt wear 3 rings.
Their wedding band and engagement ring, and they both have a grandmothers wedding band. SO for them it is sentimental.
I would love to have 2 thin channel set bands, to wear one on each side of my erign. But Terry is WAY to practical for that!! Maybe if I get one as a 5 year or something.
Otherwise I will have to hold out on my moms rings!!

I only wear two, but I've heard having three rings is more of a Southern tradition. Obviously I don't know for sure (and since a lot of women wear three I'm probably way off base).
I know some women wear three so things "line up" correctly - their e-ring is an odd shape so they wear a filler band, then their wedding band.
Hmmm- I'm not Southern or Jewish. I have a different reason. When we got married, I recieved two wedding rings, one plain, and one with diamonds. The reason why I decided to have two wedding rings was that I wanted to always wear the ring I was married with on my finger. I do not wear my diamond rings traveling or doing house chores, so I wanted to be able to still wear one of my "real" wedding rings. Yes, I am totally a sentimental fool! :o
As a nice unplanned bonus, my plain band fits between my engagement and diamond wedding band perfectly, and makes them look much more fitted together.

I wear three rings. I have my e-ring in the middle and a plain band on each side. I just liked the way it looked more balanced than having 2 rings.

I have three rings--my e-ring, a plain band, and a diamond band. I am Jewish and had to be married with a plain band without any stones. But I couldn't very well give up the bling, so DH graciously bought me a diamond band that I put on after the ceremony. What a guy! :D
