I'm currently 31 weeks pg with baby #2. For the past two weeks, all of us in our home have been fighting off little colds. I've had a slight cough with mine (sometimes productive, sometimes dry) but nothing that caused me too much concern.

Over the past week, I've noticed some pain my left rib area near my breast. The size affected by the pain is about the size of a silver dollar pancake. At first, when the pain was more mild, I thought that maybe I had some muscle or tissue strain from coughing a little too hard. Over the last day, however, the pain has gotten much worse. It hurts to take a deep breath and to touch the area.

Now, I know that it's possible that it could be a tissue issue from coughing, but is it at all possible that it could be a foot or hand lodged underneath my rib area? It's just so localized that I figured if it was a tissue strain that it's be more widespread through the rib cage. Can anyone who's had a baby foot (or other appendage) lodged up under the rib cage tell me what it felt like?

Thanks!

I don't know if this is the same thing, but I had horrible rib pain on my left side slightly to the side and under my breast around 37/38 weeks. I could barely get in and out of bed and was miserable. It hurt to the touch as well. Everyone I mentioned it to said it was probably a foot in my ribs. It went away on it's own after a week or two, before I gave birth.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks, Robyn. I'm suspecting that it's either a foot or a head lodged up there. The pain was fine earlier today, but has increased over the day, but seems to have subsided for the night.

If it is near your breast I doubt it is a body part of the baby. DS was very high and the highest he'd get is the top of the bottom third of my ribs about two fingers below my breast (he was a kicker and his foot was right there). And it was very much an internal feeling with no soreness on the outside at all. Your ribs are being horribly displaced right now with the pregnancy which can cause a lot of the pain. After I gave birth to DS my ribs were seriously bizarre looking and sticking out in very strange ways. It took a while for them to pop back into place.

I had horrible rib pain with DS #1 -- I remember it being on one side right around my bra strap line.

I had horrible rib pain like that my whole pregnancy. (In addition to achiness around my sternum.)

I had really awful rib pain like that--the whole area felt sore and it seemed so high up I wasn't sure if that was it. I even asked my MW at my next appt to see if it was really related to the pregnancy or not. But it turned out it was just a hand or foot (can't remember) wedged up there.
