jh124 what happened?!?!

DS was just evil on Saturday. We discovered at the end of the day that one of his molars hadn't completely distended and was likely bothering him. But he screamed at me all day. DH was working. It wasn't pleasant. Once we gave him tylenol at 6pm, he fell asleep and slept until 8am. I felt terrible, but had no reason to think he was teething.:(

Hope everyone had a great mother's day.
We went to Naples for the week end along with all of DH's family. DH's cousin is a chef at a restaurant in Minneapolis and the group he works for owns a similar restaurant in Naples and he invited us all there for dinner Saturday night. Naples is about a 4 hour drive for us so we stayed overnight. DS had a blast playing in the hotel pool. We have a pool at home but somehow this one was a lot better:rolleyes:. Dinner was fantastic. DS didn't want to stay in his high chair since he had seen a jazz band and a fountain in the courtyard when we arrived and we were seated inside. So we all had to take turns letting him play by the fountain and dance to the band. Occasionally he would come back to the table for a quick snack and then demand to be taken out again. Well all our relatives complain how they don't get to see DS much so I was pleased to let them all have plenty of time with him while I had cocktails and enjoyed my food. Sunday morning we went to the beach for a walk and to collect shells. DS loved it until he fell on his bottom while walking in the surf and his shorts were all wet. He pretty much had it after that. So we just headed on home and got there around 2pm. For the rest of the day I just read my book. All in all a very nice week end.

How about some questions for our toddlers to answer?

What is your favorite household chore?
Do you a security blanket/stuffed animal or anything that will freak you out if you lose it?
What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most?
What is your favorite food?
What causes you to throw a major temper tantrum?

I'll start...
What is your favorite household chore? - Has to be mowing the yard...My dad follows me around the yard while I mow. I also like to unload the dishwasher. Nothing more fun than freaking my mom out when I pull a knife out of the dishwasher.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? - I have a taggie that is my WHOLE WORLD when I go to bed. I WILL NOT go to sleep without it.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? - It has to be refusing to try any new food. I like my chicken nuggets just fine and don't need to try anything else.

What is your favorite food? - Chicken nuggets and anything sweet.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? - When I can't outside or when I am outside and mom makes me come inside.

What is your favorite household chore? - Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floor.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? - I must have my teddy bear. I'm demanding a paci more these days, since my mom is trying to phase me out of it. I've named it Dgi-Dgi.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? - My whine/scream combo. It's like nails on the blackboard.

What is your favorite food? - Cookies, waffles when I can't get cookies, bananas and dried apples when my pleas for processed food go unanswered.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? - When I can't go outside or when I am outside and mom makes me come inside. When mom won't give me a cookie. When someone takes away by broom.

What is your favorite household chore? - I love vacuuming, but only with my vacuum. Mommy's is scary.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? - No blankies or anything, but I LOVE my bedtime bottle. Mommy and Daddy are dreading bedtime without it.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? Stealing sister's paci. My mom really hates it if I do it when she's sleeping and it wakes her up. Oh, and whining. It drives her crazy.

What is your favorite food? - Mac n cheese and any kind of fruit. Any kind of veggie is gross.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? - Just about everything, especially when mommy doesn't give me what I want until I ask politely. I want what I want when I want it and if I don't get it, I.get.MAD.:D

Hi all! I haven't posted in forever, but don't have a ton of updates. DS's vocabulary is expanding, but his favorite word is definitely "duck." Everything with wings, and/or yellow, is a duck! He still grunts and points alot, though. And poor guy is teething his canines and has a horrendous diaper rash.

We had a nice Mother's Day at my IL's house. They live in the country and have a cow pasture behind their house, which DS thought was amazing. He "moo-ed" at the cows over and over!

We're not actively TTC, but just seeing what happens (which is nothing, since I don't O on my own! ) Anyway, congrats to those who have gotten BFPs since I last posted- I promise I'm following along, I just don't have a ton of things to add!

What is your favorite household chore? - I love to "help" unload the laundry basket (even if the clothes are clean!) and I feed the dog each day.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? - I am attached to my paci, especially my Wubbanub (paci attached to stuffed dog.)

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? - The hitting thing isn't going over very well, and she doesn't think it is nearly as funny as I do to throw food on the floor.

What is your favorite food? - I'm a carb-o-holic. Waffles, toast, pancakes, cookies- preferably one per hand.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? - When I have to leave school and my teacher, especially if we're on the playground.

What is your favorite household chore? I've been very into dusting with Kleenex ( ) lately, and sometimes I do the floors too.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? I do have a few favorite animals and blankets, but it changes daily depending on my mood. :)

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? Whining, whining, and whining

What is your favorite food? Cheese and chocolate pudding, both of which I often ask for the second I am up in the morning.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? What doesn't? ;)

What is your favorite household chore? I've LOVE the swiffer. In fact, swiffering will stop me from crying... Oh and helping mom with the dishwasher.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? I can't sleep without my bunny.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? Calling my mom repeatedly and wanting nothing. That and whining, whining, and whining

What is your favorite food? Chicken nuggets, apples, carrots and green beans (wierd i know but i'm not complaining)

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? I have learned that thses don't work but i will whine if mom brings me in before i am ready...

dragonfly_71

What is your favorite household chore? I swiffer, I rake leaves and I turn on the dishwasher whether or not it is ready to be run.

Do you a security blanket/stuffed animal or anything that will freak you out if you lose it? I have a little dog called Hundchen (little dog in German) that I sleep with.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? Well let's see....I whine a lot, I ask for seconds on my food and then just throw them on the floor, and sometimes it is just about impossible to please me with anything and I just keep saying no to whatever my mom offers me.

What is your favorite food? I love apple sauce, cheese, and anything I can dip in any kind of sauce.

What causes you to throw a major temper tantrum? I pretty much freak out when I finally manage to get on the computer chair and "type" and my mom comes and takes me away. I throw myself across the keyboard and scream NO NO NO.

These have been so fun to read. Hold on while I get Jack to type up his answers; he's asked for some privacy.
______________

What is your favorite household chore? I don't understand why Mom folds all the clean laundry. I help her out by unfolding the clothes as fast as possible. One day she might realize how helpful I'm being.

Do you a security blanket/stuffed animal or anything that will freak you out if you lose it? I have a blanket that I love love love! We keep it in my crib only so in the mornings and after naps I wave bye bye to my blanket. Sometimes when Mom isn't looking I will grab my blanket out of the crib and make a run for it down the hall!! This is the most fun ever! I like to put my blanket back in the crib when I'm done though so I always know where it is.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? Hitting when I get frustrated. I am working on expressing what I need with my pointing and signing rather than just hitting when I'm frustrated. This actually went very well today!

What is your favorite food? I will eat just about anything. I tried to go on a veggie strike, but Mom pureed them again and put some apple sauce in and now I remember why I like veggies. She's a sneaky one though! I cannot go anywhere without Cheerios.

What causes you to throw a major temper tantrum? You'll have to confirm with my Mom, but I don't think I've had a major temper tantrum. Small ones for sure, but that is mostly when I'm tired. When I get like this I get to take a nap with my airplanes in the crib then I wake up feeling MUCH happier.

We had our 18 mo WBV today, a few weeks late so I could do both girls at the same time.

Weight 22lbs 4oz 25%
Height 32" I think...whatever 50% is
head - 75%

This was our 1st visit with this ped for Daytona. (we switched when Camdyn was born) I expected to get a lot of flack about not vaxxing (we had 2 sets with dd1 so we couldn't pull the religous card) but she first asked if we were doing shots for either of the girls today rather than just assuming and then didn't even blink when I said no. Asked if were delayed/selec or none at all and I told her we don't do any and then that was that. She also didn't offer any formula samples "just in case" like our old ped used to do every visit. We don't live in a very mainstream area so I'm thrilled to have found a ped with similar beliefs as us.

What is your favorite household chore? I really, really love to vaccum. I get sooo excited when i see my mommy bring out her big vaccum, that i go running to find mine. What makes vaccuming even more fun, is when i run into my mommys vaccum over and over. I crack myself up!

Do you a security blanket/stuffed animal or anything that will freak you out if you lose it? I don't think i would freak out if i lost it, but i would be pretty sad. I sleep with this really soft stuffed doggy that looks more like a teddy bear, but he is my baby. I love to wrap my arm around him and fall asleep.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? whining! She tells me that she doesn't like to hear me whine. but i can't help it sometimes because she doesn't know what i am trying to tell her

What is your favorite food? does dip count as a food? i love, love, love to dip my food! I even like to eat the dip all by itself!

What causes you to throw a major temper tantrum? not getting my way! if i want something, i want it Now! why should i have to wait? doesn't my mom know she is here to wait on me hand and foot?

What causes you to throw a major temper tantrum? not getting my way or people not understanding what my whining means.

What is your favorite household chore? - I don't really like chores. But, I do "help" unfold laundry after mom has folded it.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? - I have a a doggie, a lambie and a blankie. I always need at least 2 of these but 3 is even better.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? - It has to be refusing to try any new food and thowing my food/plate to the floor if I am done or don't like the food.

What is your favorite food? - Pirates Booty for sure. I'm addicted. Mom rarely gives it to me and has to hide the bag. I really don't like much food - I'm a carbs boy. I HATE veggies and fruit. I do like dried apple though.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? - When I can't outside or when I am outside and mom makes me come inside. Mom and dad can no longer say the word outside - they have to spell it to each other cuz I don't understand that (yet!).

Gabesmom when Kaimi was about 15 months, she went through a stage where she hated having her teeth brushed, so we went out and bought one of those electric toothbrushes, and that did the trick!

What is your favorite household chore? - I "help" mommy every day by taking all the contents out of my hamper and go through them individually, saying what they are. I love to say "sock". I also like to vacuum.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? - I have a lovey and a blankey. They stay in the crib at all times :( Every morning when mommy comes to get me out of bed, I hand them both to her and say "Blankey and Lovey".

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? - She hates when I throw my sippy cup off the high chair. She also hates when I throw food. When I say things like banana, french fries, cookie and then mommy gives them to me and I don't eat them.

What is your favorite food? - Blueberries rock my world. I also love macaroni, chicken apple sausage, dried apricots. Actually I any fruit will do, but no veggies.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? - Every day when mommy gets me from daycare, I repeatedly tell her I want to go to the park. Why can't we go to the park every day? I love the park so much I know the driving route. So, as soon as mommy turns the opposite way I know I'm going home instead of the park. I lose it. I'm usually consoled by mommy singing "Wheels on the Bus"

What is your favorite household chore?--My favorite household chore is "unfolding" all of the folded clothes that my mom worked so hard on.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.?--i have my very soft blankie that i must sleep with or else...

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? --YES, YES, YES to WWWHHHIIIINNNIIIINNNNGGGG!!!. he also has learned to say "stop it mama" to me and it irritates the crap out of me. he is also now a daredevil and would c limb on anything to get to the light switches and everything else he shouldln't get his hands on. and YES again to food throwing. i'm telling you all that these kids are conspiring!!!

What is your favorite food?--I LOVE PASTA. that's how my mommy gets me to eat my veggies. if she mixes them with my pasta, i eat them. i also love ALL kinds of crackers.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum?--when mommy and daddy don't do as i say....hmmph:cool:

gabe's mom--ds also doesn't like to get his teeth brushed. i just do it anyway and he gets so pisssed. what else do you all do to improve on this hygiene must?

1_mommy - I tried the electric toothbrush tip this morning and I couldn't get the thing away from him. He LOVED it and loved having his teeth brushed.

EJM
05-18-2007, 11:50 AM
Hum, I tried the electric toothbrush when we switched from the finger brush a while ago and it freaked DD out. I think it was the noise, maybe I should drag it out again.

Our issue with teeth brushing is/was the pain of new teeth coming in. Some days are better than others. Now DD knows she has no choice, sits in mine or DH's lap and she'll open. She fusses, but still opens. ;) I also usually sing her a song about brushing teeth. Oh and our newest trick is that the kid is a Dora NUT!! I bought a book about Dora going to the dentist, so we pretend DD is Dora and I'm the dentist. And then we always read the book afterwards. You might also try switching toothpaste, that helped a little. We use the Tom's of Maine Silly Strawberry.

Dippers: For all the dipping fans, what exactly are you dipping? We still have eating issues here so I'm looking for ideas to get protein into DD. She loves to dip, but won't put the food in her mouth thereafter.

Toothbrushing - We give him the "real" toothbrush with toothpaste and tell him to brush, then I get the back teeth with the fingerbrush. He does an ok job of the front teeth the with brush, but I'll go back over them.

What is your favorite household chore? Sweeping the floor, and dusting! I love the feather duster. I have my own cleaning tools, but my mommy's are much better. I also like to throw trash away in the trash can. Sometimes I get confused by what is and isn't trash though.

Do you have a security blanket/stuffed animal etc.? I have a blankie and a paci and a stuffed lion that I cannot live without! Mommy says they have to stay in the crib when it isn't nap or bedtime though, this makes me mad and sad! I run to the crib whenever I think about them, just hoping that I'll be able to free them by putting my hands through the crib rails. When I can't, I cry and throw a temper tantrum.

What thing do you do that irritates your mom the most? Throwing food, for some reason she doesn't think it is as cool as I do. She also isn't too happy with me when I point and grunt instead of using "my words". She LOVES it when I push the buttons on the cable box and mess up her DVR recordings though, I do this over and over just because it makes her so happy. ;-)

What is your favorite food? Bananas, waffles, oranges, pineapple, beans, peas, turkey, raisins, cheerios, cookies, anything my mom or dad has and won't give to me.

What causes you to throw a temper tantrum? When I don't get what I want. When mommy can't bring me my food fast enough. When people don't understand my obviously clear grunting and pointing at what I want. When someone takes away my blankie, paci, or toys.

tooth brushing: Alex doesn't like it much either. He loves the flavor of the toothpaste and so he is very eager to open up at first and suck all the toothpaste off the brush but then he is done and doesn't want to actually brush. I just brush his teeth anyway as good as I can. JH24, that is very brave of you to still use the finger brush. No way am I going to put my fingers in DS's mouth.

dip: Alex dips grilled cheese sandwiches in ketchup, banana slices in apple sauce, crackers in peanut butter, and there are a couple of other things he dips in apple sauce that I can't remember right now.

Thank you all soooo much for the tooth brushing suggetions! Truly appreciate it. Today I went to the drug store with Gabe and picked out yet another brush (#3) in hopes of he'll like it if he picks it out. I gave it to him to explore on the way home and then we practiced I had him just put it in his mouth and do what he wanted and we got a little brushing done. Tonight, we did it again and he was a bit better but eventually refused to open. Will keep trying. Otherwise, am going to try the electric brush since at least 2 of you had success. And am definately going to try and find a book! Gabe loves to read and you can tell he is now translating book stuff to real life. Again, thanks for the ideas!

Gabe loves to read and you can tell he is now translating book stuff to real life. Again, thanks for the ideas!

Henry is doing that all the time now! He'll bring a book over, show me a picture in it, then point to one in real life (bus, his little people bus, airplane, then point outside, puppy, then point to our dogs.) It amazes me! I hope he loves to read as much as I do - selfishly, that way I will always know where he is curled up with a book!;)

Hey remember me?! LOL I have no clue how long it's been so I didn't bother catching up, sorry! I hope everyone is doing well and had a great holiday weekend!

We have great news, we're moving 5 weeks from today! We FINALLY sold our townhouse and found a FABULOUS house only about 15 mins away with a HUGE fenced in yard! We can't wait to move and get settled!!

Jackie turned 3 1/2 today and has been potty trained for about a month now (even at night) and Seth will be 20 months in 2 more days! OMG Where does the time go? We're into cycle 2 of TTC and I'm on clomid again. I should be Oing any day now so send me baby dust please!

Eliezrah - Congrats on the house! We're living in a townhouse right now, so I feel your pain.

Daytona was sick earlier this week with what I think was roseola. Started with a fever on wednesday into thursday and then it went away and I chalked it up to teething. Then friday I saw a bit of rash starting but it was very faint and covered a small area. On saturday it was a full blown rash and started spreading from her face to back and chest. I couldn't get in saturday but sunday it started to fade. She still has some of it but it gets bettter every time I look at it. Her sleep was horrible but is starting to get back on track. This afternoon she took a FOUR HOUR nap. If I couldn't hear her stirring every so often I would have been freaked out thinking something had happened to her (either that or she was up to no good, lol.) Unfortunately Camdyn was pretty fussy during that time so I didn't get much done except surfing the net but it was nice to have the break and spend one on one time with Camdyn.

QOTD How long is your dc napping now? Dd's naps shortened to about 1 1/2 hours instead of the usual 2- 2.5 hours just before she got sick and then played catchup from the lost sleep of being sick. Now she's back to 1.5 hr naps it seems and sleeping the same am't (and times) at night. Not sure if she's still trying to get back to her old routine or if she just doens't need to sleep that much anymore.

Eliezrah
06-03-2007, 07:12 AM
Most days Seth still takes 2 naps, believe it or not! His first, around 3 hours after waking up, can last about 2 hours if I don't have to wake him for something (like to get Jackie from school). His second, about 3 hours after waking from his first, usually lasts about 1.5 - 2 hours. If he has to take 1, which happens a lot when we have thigns to do, he can nap anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours, but he'll go to bed earlier those nights since he'll still be tired. Usually he gets up around 6:20 and is so tired, which is why I think he's still on 2. Yesterday he woke up at 7 and napped for 3 hours!!!! Today he slept till 7:45  so I know it'll be a 1 nap day for him. If he starts sleeping later, I know he won't be as tired in the morning, then I'll transition him to 1 nap, but for now, I know he still needs 2.

Oh yeah, before you ohhh and ahh over how great he naps, don't forget it took him 15 months to STTN and another 2-3 months after that not need to nap on me!!! LOL

jh124

QOTD How long is your dc napping now?

Henry is sleeping about 2 hours, sometimes 3, depending on if he was really tired, etc, before naptime. I dread the shortening naps.

Currently, he's in bed at about 8pm and up around 7am. He naps from noon-2pm or so. Predictability, I love thee!;) As you know, not everyday is the same, but this is more or less what he does. FWIW, daycare was really the one that set the daytime schedule. It was tough at first, adjusting from the infant room, where he could sleep as needed, to the toddler room, where he's on a cot. It all worked out in the end.

OK, just substitute the name Hunter anytime you see the name Henry and you've got my answer.

Hi everyone! LJ naps between 1-2 until 4:30-5:15 so about 3 to 3.5 hours. he then goes down around 8pm until 8 the next day. his bed time used to be around 7pm in the winter but it stays light until about 8:15pm here in california.

Although I haven't posted here in a while, I've still been lurking. I'm sorry, but I've been pretty down in the dumps regarding TTC#2. It seems like so many of my friends and acquaintances are expecting their 2nd DC, so I find myself withdrawing whenever 2nd pregnancies are discussed. I hope you guys don't take it personally, but this process has been tougher on me recently than I ever imagined. I'm getting a lot of support in the charting thread, so that's where I spend most of my time recently. In any event, I hope the end of spring finds your families well! :)

Naps: Lily takes one nap a day around 11:30 - 12:00. She also sleeps anywhere from 2 - 3 hours typically. (She only sleeps for 1.5 hours at daycare, so thank God she only attends twice a week.) She goes to bed at 6:30 PM on evenings before daycare because we wake her up for school at 6 am. On evenings that aren't "school nights," she goes down around 7:30 PM and is up between 7 & 7:30 the next morning. We feel so fortunate that, since she was around 3 months old, we've had a very good sleeper.

Since Lily got her tubes at 12 months, she hasn't had a repeat ear infection. She's been so healthy this year and we're thankful for that. Her latest accomplishments are identifying all of the letters in the alphabet and counting from 1-10 (she skips 4 & 5, though).

DianeCourt - how funny - i was JUST thinking of you and hoping you were doing well. So sorry about the TTC woes - i certainly know what you are going through and hopefully it will be over soon!! Glad that Lily is doing so well! What a brilliant litle girl! Letters and numbers?!? How cute that she skips 4&5 :)

You are all so lucky to have DC's that sleep in! What is your trick?! My DS goes to sleep b/t 7:30 and 8 PM and is up b/t 5:30 -6:15 EVERYDAY. And the first person he wants and calls for is MOM! Dad can sometimes distract him but only for an hour at the most on the weekend. Today, we had the thrill of being up since 4:45 am and after lots of crying, finally went to him at 5:10 and found him in a poopy diaper. (Turns out he has some GI bug as he's had 3-4 BM's today).

Naps are at noon until 2 or 3 PM. Very predictable and easy to put down.

lisa--so good to see you back.

gabe's mom--for ds' naps, i rock him for about 1-2 songs and then put him down. at night, i turn on his music, put him in his crib and leave him awake. this has been our routine for some time now.

dh and i celebrated our 4 year anniversary yesterday and we had a quiet day with ds. we all spent the day together and today, i went on a shopping spree courtesy of dh.

how are all the pregnant girls doing and also the 2nd time moms?

Gabe's Mom I don't go get DS before 7am unless I hear an urgent cry. If he's up gabbing, even if he's calling for mom, I leave him in his crib. On weekdays, I use that time to shower and get ready for work. On weekends, we use it to get some sleep. There have been a few occasions when I have bolted in there because something is wrong (like teddy got thrown on the floor) but all in all he's content to talk to his fish mobile that hangs from the ceiling or talk about the members of his family ("Momma, Daddy, Puppy, Puppy, Enny, Momma...")

mcl Happy Anniversary!

Eliezrah Happy Birthday! 33? Pshaw, you're just a kid!;)

QOTD - For those of you with stairs, how do you let your children climb them? DS has started demanding to walk up them. That strikes fear deep in my heart, but I realize he will eventually need to walk them and not crawl. For now, I hold one hand and he touches the wall with the other. Anyone else panicking about this?

Stairs - I wish she would insist on walking up. She likes to be carried, but if my arms are already full, then she does this half walking, half crawling thing. She puts her hands on the next step up, then one foot, then moves her hands to the next step, then the other foot. Sorta like a gorilla walk, lol. She insists on walking down them and tries to hold on to the rail, but she's way to short. She never did figure out how to scoot down backwards.

Gabes Mom - You're not alone. Daytona has recently started "sleeping in" until 6am most days. Before that it was 5-5:30am. She also sleeps 1-2 hours less total than most of the kids in this group. I am lucky though that she doesn't mind dh going in on the weekends so we each get to sleep in one day. Dd2 OTOH sleeps until 9am (goes down between 9 and 10) pretty much everyday and is down to one night waking most nights.

The other day I was playing outside with the girls in a sleed deprived, over-tired haze and overheard a conversation between the neighborhood kids. They were talking about how they are loving it's summer now so they can sleep until noon everyday. One metioned that she was mad at her mom for vacuuming at 11am one day and it woke her up. I wanted to smother them!! Ahhh, those were the days. Even if I had the opportunity, I don't think I would be able to sleep until noon...I'm too used to getting up early.

We have finally finally finally gotten rid of the bedtime bottle!! :D She was not happy about it and cried for about 10 minutes the first night while asking for her bottle. Last night was the 4th night and there was minimal crying and she only asked twice for her bottle and seemed to understand when I told her that there are no more bottles before bed. She takes forever to put down now but hopefully after she finally realizes the bedtime bottle is not coming back it'll go quicker.

Dh's car broke down yesterday. Thankfully it was only the distributer which is about $25 and dh can do that himself, but it had something wrong with the muffler/exhaust a couple months ago and I think it's starting it's slow decline so were selling it while it still runs. Dh paid $500 for it in 2003 (it's a 92 civic iwth 180k on it now) as something to just get him by until he could save up more money for a better car. I've finally convinced him that he's gotten his money's worth out of it:rolleyes: So the plan is to wait for his bonus check at the end of the month, sell dh's car and get me a minivan. He'll then drive my car. Hopefully it all works out!

Thanks for the bday wishes!!!

1_mommy, happy almost bday to you too!!

Stairs: Seth walks up them totally by himself and can do it sometimes w/o even holding on. In fact, if we even try to hold his hand now, he pulls aways and yells out "By self!" so we just make sure to stay one step below him just in case. We let Jackie walk up and down by holding on around this age, but Seth's been doing it for a few months now. I guess seeing his big sister do it made him want to do it. He also carries things up and down now, although if it's too big, he'll put it on a step first, then go up to that step, then move the object to the next step, etc.

stairs: we don't have any stairs in our house but DS is still absolutely fascinated with any kinds of stairs or ladders when we go someplace else. MIL's house has stairs and all DS wants to do when we visit is go up and down those stairs. They are pretty steep and he is not able to reach the railing so he will crawl up, but then he wants to walk down. We went to a science museum last week end and DS was way more interested in going up and down the stairs there too rather than the exhibits. And last Wednesday I took DS to the beach and had to pry him off the ladder that leads to the lifeguard station while he was kicking and screaming.

MCL - Happy anniversary!!! This pregnancy has been COMPLETELY different - with the exception of the food aversions - I still hate chicken. Other than that, I forget I'm pregnant. With ds, i took pics and wrote in my journal religiously... this poor kid isn't getting much of that. I am having a hard enough time remembering to take my prenatals! LOL! :D

Stairs: CJ has been "bear crawling" them since he was about 9 months old... scared the crap out of us but now we are glad because i don't really worry about him walking up.

QOTD Is anyone starting to consider preschools? I have been looking with the intention of starting when CJ is 2. He has been at home with my MIL and dc #2 will be here in Dec. I dont want too much change at once so i wanted him to start preschool before dc#2 gets here...

I don't post much anymore, but I'm at work and bored today, LOL.

Preschool DS is at home with me during the week while DH works, and at home with his daddy on the weekends while I work. While this situation may not last much longer because I may stop working shortly, it has been working great for us so far. We have talked about when/if DS will go to preschool and decided that probably around age 3-4 we will put him in a 2-3 morning a week kind of program. Like a Mom's Morning Out kind of thing.

Has anyone thought about the fact that our kiddos won't enter kindergarten until almost age 6, because of their birthdates being in Sept/Oct? I think most school districts cut off at end of August birthdays. I don't know about private schools though, do they do the same? Do preschools have such an age cutoff?

Our school district has the August cutoff, but if we think Lily is ready for kindergarten when she's 4, we're going to fight that pretty hard. My b-day is 10/19 and my parents started me when I was 4. DH was 5 going on 6 and they wouldn't let him start early - he ended up doing kindergarten & 1st grade in the same year because he was really ready a year early.

Preschool: DS is in a center right now and they have an awsome preschool program. However, he may not be able to stay there much longer which brings me to my question.

We love the center DS is in but he gets sick all.the.time and so we need to find another solution. We don't have any family who could watch him so my option is pretty much to quit and stay home with him for a while or possibly put him in a homebased daycare. I never wanted to do that but I also really really don't want to be a SAHM (for my sanity and DS's sanity as well) so now I am now considering this option. Do any of you have your kids in a homebased daycare? Are you happy with that option? Do they follow any kind of curriculum or is it just free play? And are the kids in a separate section of the house (like the basement) or are they in the same part of the home where the rest of the family is? And lastly, how do you find a good home daycare? Sorry for all these questions but I never researched this at all and now I have to do it in a hurry.

lorialys: If you don't mind me asking, what kind of work do you do on the week ends? I am asking because I have thought that if I really do end up having to quit my full time job I may be able to work on the week ends when DH is home.

I am an engineer for an aircraft company. My situation is quite unique. DH also works for the same company, in fact we're in the same department. They needed some help designing a new product, and I had some skills that would work well with what they need. The job that I perform is done by someone else during the week, so I am able to come in on the weekends and allow this type of work to be done 7 days a week. Sorry if that doesn't make any sense. I was trying to give you a brief description of my job without getting too technical.

It has worked out well for us over the last 8 months, but we are getting very tired of never having a day off together to do things as a family. I don't see this being a long-term solution for us.

Stairs: We didn't have any until last Thursday when we moved. DD headed straight for them and tried to walk up unassisted. We've been practicing with her, but I need to get baby gates.

Preschool: I'm in no rush. I plan to look into a MOD program around age 3 for maybe 2 mornings a week. Then one year of preschool before kindergarten. I actually prefer that DD be older for her class, so even if she was ready at 4 we wouldn't push for kindergarten. Now that we are in a new area, I need to look into all this stuff for preschool, but we picked the specific area we did for the public schools once she is old enough.

preschool/kindergarten - Assuming we are still living in this state or MO the kids will definitely go when they are 4 as it is free for all four yearl olds. Whether they go an additional year either before or after will depend on finances and their personality. Judging on dd's personality now she will not be ready to go to kindergarten until she is nearly 6 (assuming that any earlier would even be possible). She is just awrnry (sp?) and is always going non-stop. Either way though I probably won't push it if I think she's ready at 4 almost 5 as I'd rather her be older than most of her classmates than younger. I used to cut hair for 2 kindergarten teachers and they both said in their experience boys usually do better starting at 6 while girls tend to do better at 5. I don't really see a need for more than 2 years of preschool for us as I'm staying home and don't plan on changing that anytime soon where as if I were working I'd be paying for daycare anyways. If we end up living in a state that does not have free preschool and I can't find one that accepts gov't grants I will have to homeschool because of the whole vax thing. I'd rather not homeschool preschool since I don't plan on homeschooling kindergarten or anything else and want her to get used to taking direction from somebody else, being away from me, etc.

DianeCourt - How did you teach Lily her numbers and letters? Does she understand the concept of them or is it reciting from memory? I don't think Daytona's ready for that yet, but then again I often think she's too young for lots of stuff when she really isn't.

godsgift77
06-10-2007, 10:04 PM
Preschool - I sure wish they had free preschool here - actually they do but we don't qualify...

School age - here as long as the kid is 5 before dec 2 (stupid date i know) they can start kindergarten. DS should be more than ready by 5 and I don't plan on making him wait til he's 6. DC #2 may not be so lucky... i hope he's born in Nov to avoid the whole situation all together but one never knows...

Home daycare - I have a friend who runs one and its very structured. They have time for free play but they also have "school" time. School time is in the morning and free play is in the afternoon. It was run in a separate area of the house. However this is not to say that all in home day care is run the same...

Good question! It's really hard to pinpoint one single thing that's helped her learn this stuff. We definitely haven't tried to teach her on purpose, you know? I can tell you that she really surprised us when we realized how much she was picking up. I think that her love of reading has definitely helped. Probably much like all of you, we've been reading to her since she was a newborn. Also, she has a couple of favorite toys with numbers & letters that had to have helped:

LeapFrog Fridge Phonics (has all of the letters in the alphabet)
Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Piano (the piano keys have numbers on them)
Sassy Foam Letters & Numbers for the bath (they "stick" to the bathtub wall)

It's hard to tell if there's any comprehension or if she's just reciting from memory. But this week she HAS been saying "two!" whenever she's holding two objects or sees two similar objects next to one another. She always identifies letters out of the blue, especially when she sees a big one on somebody's shirt, a sign, or even a license plate. I've been trying to get her to include 4 & 5 when she counts, but she's still jumping right from 3 to 6! It's funny.

preschool--All of my kids are fall kids so I'll just let them all be the oldest kids in their classes. They'll all be spaced 2 years out then. DH and I hope to send our kids to the school associated with my church over the local public school so that also gives us more time to save up tuition money. ;) I was the absolute youngest in my class and although it was kind of nice to graduate at 17 I was also the last in my class to get my license and later the last of my friends/college grade classmates to turn 21 etc.

preschool - Around here, kids don't start preschool until 3, so I really haven't been thinking much about it yet. Probably later this year, I'll start researching places and see if that is the route we want to go.

Kindergarten - I have an October birthday and was 5 going on 6 when I started. I never really thought much of it. I will probably do the same with DS.

Home Daycare - We have a retired lady who watches the boys (she also watches about 3-4 other kids). We LOVE, LOVE her! I wouldn't have it any other way. There really is no set curriculum, but their day is really structured. (7:30-8 breakfast, 8-9 playtime, 9-10 play outside if nice, 10-10:30 snack, etc.). They are in the main area of her house. She does have a basement, but they only go down there if the weather is bad. She has three bedrooms upstairs set aside for them. One room is the playroom, one room is the toddler nap area with little cots and the other room is where the crib is. We found her by asking our friends and families who they sent their kids too. The biggest downside to a home day care in my opinion, is when she is sick or wants days off, we either have to take the day off ourselves or try and find another babysitter for the day.

My b-day is 10/19 and my parents started me when I was 4.

I also started when I was 4. I was ready for school, but I was not ready to be a 17 year old college freshman. I would have been better off traveling or doing something constructive for a year after high school. But I was definitely ready for school.

Funny this topic came up. My friend and I were discussing this at length on Friday. This is something that DH and I have talked quite a bit about. Hank's bday is 10/16, so after the cutoff. But we could send him to private school for a bit and then mainstream him, if we decide to.

My bday is 10/2 (mark that on the calendar) and I was one of the youngest in my class. But I think our cutoff was October 30th or something like that. I was more than ready to start school, but I was a girl and girls seem to develop socially faster than boys. And I was always taller than everyone. Can you imagine if I were in the class behind me? I would have felt like even more of an outcast.

Typically, preschool/early school age boys aren’t as scholastically advanced as girls. I think my child is brilliant, but have yet to see actual signs of him being a prodigy. I don’t want him to get discouraged if the other kids are more coordinated at writing letters and numbers, or if he isn’t reading as well or as quickly. I know that could still happen if he’s a year older, but hope that he will have more confidence in himself to work through the situation –as opposed to the frustration that preschoolers often feel when they can’t get something right the first time.

Also, dating is hard enough in high school. Boys are already years behind girls. Can you imagine my 17 year old son at 6’4” tall having the emotional maturity of a 13 year old? Wouldn’t it be better for him to have that as a high school jr than as a senior? Those poor girls. Such a cutie, so tall, so immature.

Finally, I started college at 17. It was a huge mistake. HUGE! I’m glad I started school early. I’m glad I wasn’t old and tall and awkward in elementary and high school. But I should have taken a year off. I was not ready for college then, and my transcript proves it. I would rather Hank start college at 18 turning 19 than repeat my mistakes – especially since he will have the emotional maturity of a 15 year old at that time. However, should any sign of child prodigy emerge, we will send him to college at age 12. He can go to GW and we can commute in together.

Frankly, since I have a boy, I am very comfortable with him being one of the oldest in his class. He will be more developed socially and emotionally, and ready to learn. And yes, he will be more coordinated for sports (has to get rich and buy his momma a big house, after all.)

Preschool - I WOH so he will age into his school's preschool program. One less thing to worry about, although we are thinking about switching him this fall to a different (perhaps better) daycare/preschool situation.

Schools: The cut offs around here are all Oct 1 so Sethy makes it by a day! He'll be starting preschool 2 mornings a week when he turns 3 (a year from Sept) like Jackie did. Then we'll do 2 full days when he's 4 like Jackie will this coming Sept. Then it'll be right into kindergarten, which he'll be starting the month he turns 5. Jackie missed the cutoff but we pushed her ahead to the older group so they'll be 2 years apart in school.

Glad to make you laugh! We are currently neighborhood searching/school researching. We probably won't move for several years, but we want the info for when the time comes. We live in a good area now, but my commute is too long, and it's unfair to DS. We will likely spend more money for less house, but if we have more family time and as good as/better school than we do now, then it will be worth it.

mcl i COMPLETELY agree with you about LAUSD. Thankfully I will be teaching in Long Beach Unified so ds can go there when the time comes.

The real reason i want ds to go to preschool is so that he can associate with other kids. Right now, he's with my MIL all day every day. Not good for him maturing socially. I think he will start preschool part time (2-3 days) next spring.

I decided to test this morning since I'm 10 DPO and....THERE'S A VERY FAINT, PRETTY PINK LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I GOT MY BFP!!!! I'M PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK it's easier to see in person than in the pics, but I swear it's there!! Here are some pics.....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v410/eliezrah/DSC04885.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v410/eliezrah/DSC04884.jpg

And here's the one where it's easier to see (I told you, it's light!)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v410/eliezrah/DSC04885a.jpg

I KNEW I was PG, I just knew it like I knew the other 2 times! I was scared to test this morning just in case though! The control line came up slowly and I didn't see a test line at first. I was a bit upset but not too much, since I figured it was just still early. So I brushed my teeth and decided to look at it again and I suddenly saw the faintest of lines SLOWLY coming up. At first I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me since I wanted to see that line, but then I saw the tiniest, faintest bit of pink and I knew!

We already have 2 ideas of how to tell our parents. One is this Sunday for Father's Day. We told them about Jackie that way by giving both fathers identical picture frames with a pic of a baby and the words "Baby K. due Feb -04" on it. We had them open them together. Ever since then, EVERY SINGLE Mother's and Father's Day they joke about are we going to tell them something. So we thought it would be HYSTERICAL to tell them the same way again. The problem is that my mom is working on a cruise ship in Tahiti and we'd have to ask my dad not to tell her, even when she gets home. Then we'd tell her ourselves on July 4 (she gets home June 30). Both sets of parents are coming to the new house on July 4 to see it and for a BBQ (and my parents are bringing the kids back to us after the move). We figured we'd show them the new house and when we get to the 4th bedroom, open the door and say "and here's the baby's room!" Now if we go with the Father's Day plan, that's how we'd tell just my mom. Or, we can wait till then (if I can!) and tell all of them that way. What do you all think?

Anyway, enough babbling, I'M PREGNANT!!!!!!!!

ETA: Oh yeah, my EDD is 2/25/08, 10 days and 4 years after Jackie's EDD!

Thanks everyone!!!

I had my first appt already today! LOL They were soooo excited for me and they loved seeing Jackie & Seth again. The doc was great at keeping Jackie by Seth's stroller when he was examining me. He said everything looks great. My next appt is in 5 weeks, not 4 since he wants to do an u/s and doesn't have an appt when Scott can be there in 4 weeks. He'll be looking for the HB and checking to make sure there's only 1 baby in there! Between the clomid and twins running in my family, he likes to make sure!

Even though I'm taking an OTC prenatal vitamin, he gave me samples of some new ones and I think I decided on one. It's the same one I took with Sethy and I liked it cuz it has extra B6 in it and this newer version also has a DHA capsule to take as well. I have to avoid all fish and fish products becasue of the risk of allergies (allergist said I also have to avoid tree nuts and peanut while PG) so I thought it would be good to have extra DHA.

He also changed my EDD to 2/21 so that's what I'm going to go by. He said 4-5 days doesn't really make a difference. So that makes me exactly 4 weeks today!!!

We told my mom tonight since she called from Hawaii. I told her " the grandkids miss you; Jackie, Seth, and baby #3!" She paused, repeated what I said and then yelled out "OMG you're pregnant?!" She's sooo excited! We told her not to tell my dad since we're telling him on Sunday.

QOTD: Is anyone else's DC referring to themselves in the 3rd person constantly? Any other funny or interesting habits your DC's have?

DD does this all the time, totally cracks me up. She'll always tell me "Avery (fill in the blank)" or needs something. :D

Congrats Diane! My brother got that same Father's Day present yesterday! :D I've been waiting for my SIL to get pregnant with her first so I would feel ok about trying to get pregnant with my third.. so I'm hoping to start in two cycles!

Interesting habits.. Adam refers to himself sometimes when he's talking, but he's still mostly at a babbling stage so I can't really say it's third person. It's usually when he's gotten a hold of my phone, which leads me to one habit he has. He somehow manages to ALWAYS leave me a voicemail from my phone! And his favorite word right now is dirty; he makes sure to tell me at least 10 times that his diaper is dirty, while it's being changed and afterwards.

Has anyone dealt with their kids almost entirely refusing to eat solids? Adam won't hardly eat. He'll nurse plenty, but he won't eat very much solid foods.

Yes, DS does this a lot! It's so cute to see how his name is evolving. It used to be "Enny." Now it's "Enwy." :)

3rd person - DD doesn't say her name yet, so no third person yet. Her verbal skills aren't quite there yet either I don't think. When she wants something she will say "eh?" over and over and over again. If I can't figure out what she wants she will come over and pull on my pant leg to get me to stand up then lead me by the hand to whatever she wants, all the while asking "eh?" I learned the hard way not to say yes until I know exactly what she wants.

hmbay
06-18-2007, 01:17 PM
speaking--Alex is pretty slow on this too. He understands everything and talks enough words to be considered "average" for his age but he still whines and points and makes other noises other than words when he wants something. If you ask "do you want x?" he will shake his head no or say "yes" but won't actually name what he wants (bottle, outside etc) most of the time. Every now and then I'll get an "up" or "outside" or whatever out of him but most of the time, no.

MizLarner, EJM, mcl, godsgift, 1_mommy, lorialys, and those of you who supported me in other threads/LJ: Thank you for your kind wishes! Waiting for this day to come was harder than I ever expected it to be. I never thought it would take so darn long. Right now, more than anything, it's just a giant relief and I feel like I just walked out of a pseudo-depression.

I don't want to announce on her behalf, but another October mommy who doesn't come around this thread any longer is also due in 2/08. She posted once in the February 08 thread!

3rd person: Yes! Lily does this a lot, but the "L" sound is hard for her to make. When she says her name, it sounds like "yee-yee."

Eliezrah
06-18-2007, 01:33 PM
Diane, ohhh I must have missed that! Another Oct Mommy is also going to be a Feb mommy with us? I'll have to go see who it is!

3rd person: no. Seth will say his name when it's posessive (ie when grabbing a toy away from Jackie he'll say "Seth's"), or he'll say "me" or "I" pretty much at the right times. ie when he wants to put his pants on himself w/o help, he'll say "I doot" (do it) or if you ask who wants to go outside, he'll say "Me!" and run to the door. I guess he picked it up from Jackie.

also wanted to give big huge CONGRATS!!!! to diane!!! im so happy for you!!!!! i know how long you have been trying and you must be so over the moon!!!!!!

lisa, i already congratulated you :p

i want to reply to the QOTD because its something that has just come about with nathan.

QOTD: Is anyone else's DC referring to themselves in the 3rd person constantly? Any other funny or interesting habits your DC's have?

he will switch between "you" and "nay nay" which is his name for himself. the other day he and i were eating yogurt, and he was pointing to my yogurt and whining. i told him "thats mommys yogurt" and pointed to his and said "thats nathans yogurt. he thought about that for a while, then pointed to mine and said "mommy" and then pointed to his and said "nay nay". he has done that a few times, taking something and saying "nay nay!" sometimes he uses "you" though. today he was getting in his chair for lunch, and he really wanted his apples, so he kept saying "you ah-poh!" over and over again. i love this stage of verbal development. :)

i hope to pop back in here more often :)

QOTD CJ doesnt refer to himself at all unless you ask him "where's CJ?" then he'll gladly point to himself. He tells us he wants to go "ouside" by saying it as many times as he can within 5 seconds - ie - "ouside, ouside, ouside! ousiiiiiiiiide!" :D

Oh and he has started only eating chicken nuggets, apples and cooked carrots or green beans. Everything else seems to disgust him... I guess it could be worse...

bday cont'd - I'm 90% sure we're doing a dog/puppy theme. If we don't do that, then it will be a cat theme. I was originally going to do a cat theme since she loves her kitties so much, but was finding cuter/better things for a dog.

clothes - She is in between 18 months and 24 months for clothes so i've been buying mostly 24 month things so they will hopefully last teh rest of the summer.

clothes - CJ is in 3t and shoe size is 7.5  it really scares me how fast he is growing!

bday - our indoor playland is not little gym or my gym. Those places cost more than this "off brand" place. I went to a party for the son of a friend of mine and it cost them $225 for everything for 10 kids. CJ doesn't go to daycare so he doesn't have many friends so 10 should be more than enough...

bday - our indoor playland is not little gym or my gym. Those places cost more than this "off brand" place.

I'm debating this, too. Our Gymboree is $199 for 1.5 hours & 15 kids. You can only bring in cake, no other food allowed. The "off brand" place near me is $299 for 2 hours, but you can invite up to 25 kids, the age limit is higher, and they provide pizza, a DVD of the party, favors, decorations, everything. I'm leaning towards the "off brand" place because I feel kinda funny throwing a party with no food, really! I'd probably spend that much doing a big home party anyway. I think we'll be doing a Sesame Street theme.

Clothes: At her 19 month WBV, lily weighed 28.5 lbs and was 36 inches tall! She's still 100 %ile for height, but dropped to 90% for weight. She's mostly in 2T, some 3T tops depending on the brand.

Eliezrah
06-24-2007, 07:42 AM
Clothes: Seth is definitely outgrowing 18 months and needs 24 months/ 2T stuff except for pants. Some pants he still needs 18 months for the waist, but others 24 months is fine. Weird! Wehn we bought his Spring/ Summer stuff, we got all his shirts in 24 months even though he wasn't quite up to it yet so he can wear them for longer. Shoe size is a 5 and with certian brands that's too big! He has tiny feet!

Bday theme: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! At the Little Gym, they can provide paper goods for you, but only plain ones, so we bring our own (it's what we did for Jackie's 2nd bday that we also had there). We're going ot get the paper goods from Birthday Express (www.birthdayexpress.com) and have the cake decorated with Mickey. Well the guest's cake since Seth will need a special allergy free one, which will be hard to find. He needs dairy, egg and wheat free.... No clue what I'm going to do!
http://birthdayexpress.com.edgesuite.net/images.birthdayexpress.com//bexpress/assets/product_images/E2267.jpg

I'm debating whether or not to do the Mickey Clubhouse party favor boxes or do something different and unique. Up until now, every party we've had for the kids we used Birthday Expresses themed favor boxes, which are very cute. But lately the kids have been gonig to parties with unique favors that aren't necessarily theme related. For instance, the party Jackie went to yesterday, she got one of those pocket photo albums with her name on it and a few pics of her from school inside! Seth has gotten toy instruments with his name painted on them, Jackie's also gotten a sand bucket & shovel, etc.
http://birthdayexpress.com.edgesuite.net/images.birthdayexpress.com//bexpress/assets/product_images/E4267.jpg

Cake: If anyone can help me with ideas for Seth's cake, I'll be eternally grateful!! I ahve a recipe for Wacky Cake which has no milk, eggs or regualr wheat in it, but it crumbles. Last year was easy. His theme was constructionso I had it all crumbled in the back of a toy dump truck and it looked like dirt was piled in it. I want him to be able to have a real cake this year. Not that I know how to decorate anything at all! If I can find a decent alelrgy free recipe that won't crumble, I'll have to find Mickey cake toppers and stuff like that to put on top. Or I need ot find a bakery that can make a cake that's safe for him. HELP!! LOL

Eliezrah can you do a search for a cake maker who specializes in allergen free cake?

I've tried but I either get Gluten free but with dairy and/ or eggs, or dairy/ egg free but with wheat. I've called a few places and they all say they aren't allowed to change their recipes! WTF? I went to my allergy boards and was given the name of a few mixes that are wheat/ dairy & egg free. I think I'm going to try to make a small round cake for him. Then I'll get vanilla forsting and red food dye. I'll frost his cake red and get the type of icing you can write with in yellow & black and put little dots or soemthing around the edge. Then I'll buy Mickey character figurines to put on top. It won't be the same as a store bought, but it'll be the best I can do so I know he'll love it!

2nd birthdays - It will probably just be the four of us celebrating and inviting the grandparents, so nothing big this year.

clothes - He is vertically challenged and has no rear to keep up pants, so he still mainly wears 18 month shorts. The tops are now mostly 24 months/2T. He is outgrowing size 5 shoes, so I just bought him a size 6 shoe.

do your kids have a favorite tv show/movie?

Kai used to not be intrested in t.v., but in the last few months, he has shown that he LOVES little einstiens and mickey mouse clubhouse! he will stop what he is doing and sit down and watch it.
last night he sat through the entire lady and the tramp movie. i was shocked!

2nd birthdays We may rent a soft play room with a friend and host both boy's birthdays (her son will be 3.) I think we could get away with it this year, but will have separate bdays in the future. Nothing set in concrete, it will likely be us and a few friends.

clothes - Gymboree 18-24 months, Carter's 24 months/2T. 2T shorts are too big and fall off his waist, and he can still wear 18 month clothes - but I'm not buying anymore.

do your kids have a favorite tv show/movie? For a long time, it was Signing Times. Now it's Real Wheels There Goes a Bus.

tv--both of my kids are OBSESSED with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We have a ton of them taped on the DVR we use for distraction now and then when we really need to get something done (or when tired pg mommy is just exhausted and wants to lay on the couch for 20 minutes and ignore them) ;) but they've watched them so much Colin can recite them... The kid won't pottytrain at 3 1/2 but he can recite 25 minutes of MMC to me. They used to both like Sesame Street but now the only thing Alex will sit and watch is MMC.

TV - While we are talking about shows on the Disney Channel, is anyone else creeped out by the Go Baby mini-show they have? It seems to be on right after Higglytown Heroes and Little Einsteins. DH said the narrator sounds like some sort of child molestor or something...."Hi baby, where's Sophie?"

Our crazy month is finally over and I am just now getting caught up on this thread. :)

Clothes: DD still wears some 12-18 months and the 18-24 is kind of big on her in most brands, but it's what I bought for summer so we're making do.

2nd Birthday I haven't given it any thought, last year we did a tiny family party. Maybe we'll do something larger this year, I'm not sure yet.

Shows DD is obsessed with Dora, and also likes Blues Clues and Signing Times.

O--the website doesn't work for me when i click on it. it brings me to another site.:(

tv shows--LJ loves different shows but is crazy about MM club house, little einsteins, miss sunnypatch and friends, and the backyardigans. he loves anything with music and dancing. i, myself, am partial to the backyardigans because the characters are just adorable. he only gets to watch 1-2 shows then we go out to what he loves the most--THE PARK. this boy can stay out there running around for hours.

mini shows--he loves the choo choo soul and dan zane and ralph's world. he loves the music and dances around. we ended up getting the ralph's world cd because he loves the songs so much. i do agree with the "voice" of the go baby. it's kind of weird sounding.

what to do this summer--

we're planning on getting a kite for him because he loves anything that flies.

we've gone to the zoo, which he enjoyed. he loves the flamingos and called them ducks and the zebras, he called horse. but the best is when he called the giraffes, doggies. we also decided to get a family pass this year. it's really a good deal for the LA zoo. for $60, the whole family can go all year + 4 adult passes and discounts on food and train rides.

we may go to legoland and the aquarium, also.

Summer activites - The downside of living in a low cost area is that there is NOTHING to do. I'm jealous of those in large cities with great zoos, quariums, children's museums, etc close by. We have a zoo, but the animals are very limited. A few big cats, a couple giraffes, a few birds, penguins but they are outside so in teh summer they always go into their "dog house" type thing which is air conditioned. But no zebras, elephants, etc. They are adding on supposedly so hopefully they get more animals. Dh got free tickets to Oceans of fun/worlds of fun through work and is trying to get zoo tickets so we're driving down there next month and staying for a long weekend with SIL and a friend.

Summer fun: We have TONS to do! Jackie started camp today and will be gone all day Tues & Thurs for 6 weeks. Seth has his Little Gym class Tues mornings and 6 makeups schedueld for the next 6 Thurs that she's in camp. M,W and F we'll have playdates scheduled. Tomorrow we're going to a local lake with some friends and there's a children's zoo not far away as well. There are farms where you can pet the animals and our new backyard will be a kids heaven!! Oh yeah, there's always playgrounds if we get bored!

what to do this summer--

Henry is enrolled in a class at our county's soft play room. It's a Gymboree type of thing. $47 for six classes. His BFF is also enrolled and they are having a blast together.

There is a lot of stuff to do here (DC area) but DH is fearful of having the child in public. Seriously, he has a phobia about taking the kid anywhere.

things to do--we live in an area with tons to do and do none of it. ;) With dh and I working opposite shifts and weekends full of errands, family commitments, yard work etc the kids are lucky if they get to a zoo/museum/park a couple times a year. Dh actually has been trying to take the kids to the park a few times a month and when I take the 5th and 6th off next week I plan to take the boys swimming but otherwise they do nothing but stay home and play with their toys--no outings, no classes.

I forgot about choo choo soul and ralphs world! Kai loves those, and comes running when he hears them on :)

things to do- not much here, the zoo, parks, water parks. we can do color me mine, but that can get pricey. luckily we are only 2 hrs from the beach, so we try to hit that a couple times during the summer.
i have put a damper on our activities though, i started babysitting a couple weeks ago, and i may be getting 2 more kids, so right now it is fun in the backyard!

jhl124-- i can totally relate re what you said about your dh. about 2 weeks ago, there was an 8 year old boy that was abducted and raped after school and they still haven't caught this hideous man. the babysitter who is supposedly walking this boy home from school said the boy wandered off and the man was able to put him in his car. this is only about a couple of miles away from where we live. we've always been careful with ds but even more so now. LJ is very friendly and would talk to anyone but now dh or i am always right by his side. we still let him run around but we're never more than 2 feet away from him. it's disgusting what these horrible people get into their heads to do to kids. (i'm sorry about this downer of a story. i recently took care of a girl that was molested by her grandfather and i'm so worked up right now whenever i hear stories like this.)

Summer Stuff: Nothing at this point. We just moved, not that far but too far to continue the activities at the locations we had been attending. We were doing a class/playgroup etc 4 days a week, and while I'm enjoying the break, I miss it! I need to look into stuff for the fall because I have a feeling the local park district has sign-ups very soon. I did buy a baby pool for DD and our dog to use in the backyard, we'll be christening that this afternoon. :D The local moms group I found on meetup.com seems to be really active, so I'll be attending some of that stuff soon. We do now live across the street from a park with a playground and we've been there almost daily.

K, I know I haven't been here in forever but this totally cracked me up! That guy TOTALLY creeps me out. DS loves the babies though so I get stuck watching it. DH gets really creeped out by Higglytown Heroes for some reason...and he thinks it's weird that the one's voice is the secretary from Ferris Bueller. Makes me laugh. I've always thought the Doodlebops were odd.

As for other TV shows, DS LOVES MMC and Charlie & Lola. I secretly love Charlie & Lola too and have DVR'd a bunch of that and MMC to keep him occupied when I need a moment. Recently he started getting into the Good Night Show on PBS in the evenings too.

Summer - Most of DS' activities will be at daycare (in-home run by my SIL) and there is a TON to do there and they take field trips and such. We haven't planned much b/c at 30 wks pg now, I am running out of energy real quick and our house is on the market so we can't set up toys in the backyard. We tend to take a lot of weekend trips during the summer on our boat and camping so we're hoping to do some of that over the next month.

summer fun: We live north of the Tampa area and we have tons to do here. It is a bit too hot for the playground so we haven't been doing that much lately but we go to the beach at least once a week and also to the pool. We also have annual passes to our science museum and to our aquarium which also has an outdoor water play area. I alternate these two places about every other week end. Grandma lives really close to the aquarium so we usually visit her when when we go there and she lives right on the port where all the cruise ships leave and DS loves to sit on one of her porches and watch them go by. My sil lives right on a canal and has a boat so we use that a lot too. We don't really go to any classes or anything since DS is in daycare and they do a lot of these things there.

MCL - Lemme try this again... (http://www.kidconceptsusa.com)

Summer fun - CJ is enrolled in two classes this summer. We also have a family pass to the aquarium and San Diego zoo. I can't wait to go back! CJ had a blast at the aquarium. Every time he saw the fish he would say "fish. YUM!" :D too funny!

TV - CJ is limited to Sesame Street because he hates to sit still for more than 45 seconds

More summer fun: DH and I took Alex to a local park today and walked the nature trail. We saw some armadillos and other critters. We are going to the library later because I need some more books and I'm going to find out when they do toddler story time. I'm not sure DS is ready for that yet since he can't sit still but we might give it a try.

TV: Alex watches the Wiggles and Higgly Town Heroes, he sort of likes Little Einsteins but he really can't actually sit and watch anything, he just plays and every so often something will catch his attention (usually a song) and he will watch for a minute. He does like to help the little Einsteins launch rocket or make it go super fast. I use that too when we are at the grocery store and he gets impatient. I ask him if he can help mommy go super fast and he will start patting and I pretend like I'm racing down the aisles.
Occasionally in the evenings we put on Big Comfy Couch but here he is pretty much only interested in the clock rug stretch (and apparently so is DH ).

Hi everyone!

summer fun--We have a zoo membership and DS is going there today with ILs. He loooooves animals. He also loves the park, which he seems to go to a lot. From time to time we like to take him on hikes, but he's getting a bit heavy for the carrier. He goes to weekly swimming lessons too.

TV--our go-to show for DS is the movie Cars. He will sit and watch the entire thing. Its nuts/awesome. For regular TV, he likes Dora, Teletubbies, a little bit of Sesame Street and Classical Baby on HBO.

thanks O--i was hoping they would have locations here in sherman oaks/north hollywood area but they don't. thank you for posting it though.

tv music--speaking of MMC, both dh and i find ourselves singing the hotdog song out of the blue. i actually caught him singing that song while taking a shower and he said he hated that song. those tunes are so catchy.

dragonfly--i do the same thing with LJ when he gets impatient i start the doing the pat pat song and he raises his arms and says "bast-O" for blast off. he can do this over and over.

omg that androgenous voice creeps me out, too. but both my kids are transfixed by that show. ive had to start tivoing it because they will both freeze and watch every second of it and ask for more.

summer activities stella is in camp 3 days a week for 4 hours a day. nathan and i do errands or hang in the yard or house most of the time she is gone, but we also go to a play class once a week. im not big on classes/lessons etc at this age, but i do think some socialization with other kids is important. we are hoping to move by the end of the summer so hopefully i can find a class for nathan for the fall.

tv we watch too much tv. its mostly little einsteins (nathan does the pat pat pat part), mickey mouse clubhouse (he likes to sing the hot dog song, too, mcl), jojo, diego (says "freeze, bobos!"), backyardigans, curious george and sesame street. NOT all at once, NOT all in the same day, but those are our favorites. nathan is majorly into airplanes and helicopters and trains (ok all vehicles) so sometimes i let him watch jay jay the jet plane (talk about annoying) or thomas (much more tolerable compared to jay jay). yeah, we watch too much tv. but i swear it doesnt feel that way. we hang in theyard and inspect the vegetables, too. he was obsessed with the strawberries we grew, though he wouldnt eat any of them. just licked them and then said "no". weirdo.

TV: The only thing Lily likes to watch is Signing Time. And only certain episodes of Signing Time are acceptable for some reason. She watches an episode that we Tivo'd off of PBS once or twice a week - usually when we're trying to finish up dinner and she's already done, or when I'm doing some type of chore. She'll take Sesame Street in small doses, but only if Elmo is on.

Summer activities: Our library has a great Pee Wee Art time once a month on Friday morning (which is one of my days off), so we've started going to those. It's a free art project, snack, & story time! Pretty cool. We go to Gymboree on Wednesday mornings. We also spend as many weekends as possible at our IL's cottage in mid-Michigan - Lily loves to play in the sand, water, and just be outside.

TV - Daytona doesn't really care about tv. I guess I can't really complain, but it would be nice turn on sesame street and speed clean the house or something. Her favorite ones are baby einstein videos, but other than that she likes Wheel of Fortune and the Ellen show:rolleyes: She claps and says "yay" for wheel of fortune when somebody solves a puzzle, and dances with Ellen. She used to plop down in her winnie the pooh chair with Ellen before Ellen hurt her back.
