With my first pregnancy, I had premature rupture of membranes at 35 weeks and 3 days. Now I'm pregnant with #2 and my OB recommended progesterone injections once a week from 17 weeks until 34 weeks to prevent it from happening again. Anyone heard of this?

Yes. I had to take it for my frozen cycle with IVF. Is it progesterone in oil? Prepare yourself--it's a thick needle in your buttocks and the oil moves very slowly. I cursed like a sailor when DH was shooting it in. Unfortunately, this was every night--once a week won't be so bad.

Of course, yours may be different as you are already pregnant and I wasn't.

I'm on them right now (first one was at week 15) for prevention of pre-term labor. Like the pp said, they're not fun, but once a week is really not so bad.

I had progesterone injections daily for the first two trimesters, because when my progesterone was low I bled, and when it was higher I didn't. However, I've never heard of this being done for prevention of premature rupture. Premature labor, sure, but by definition premature rupture is rupture occuring before onset of labor. It's not something I've gone searching for data for, though. Good luck.

I've heard of it for premature labor.

I took daily progesterone injections until 12 weeks with my IVF cycle. I think it's the same medication, but I'm no doctor. :) My RE prescribed Progesterone in Ethyl Oleate to me, because it's supposed to be thinner than the traditional progesterone version (in Sesame Oil). I had no problems with it and injected myself in the buttocks once a day.
