Does anybody here have night sweats? I sometimes get night sweats for one night if I have a fever that is breaking, but until a couple of nights ago that's the only time I've ever gotten night sweats. Last night and the night before last, I woke up in the middle of the night with my shirt soaked and the sheet below me was damp.
If you have had night sweats, what was the cause? I'm trying to figure out why I'm getting night sweats now since I haven't been sick recently.
i got them very badly when i had mono. i would wake up almost every night drenched and have to change my pajamas.

I don't have mono.

I don't think I've been depressed or anxious about anything.
AF is due to arrive tomorrow though. Is it normal to get night sweats before the arrival of AF?

Ding, ding, ding! I most definitely think this would be the cause. I always seem to sweat more right before AF shows.

As you age, your body becomes more sensitive to changes in hormones. Thus, the PMS period for you may be evidenced by night sweats.

Not the cause for you, but just in case it might be helpful for anyone else, many women get really bad night sweats in the first few weeks after having a baby. I believe it's your body's way of getting rid of the extra fluid you've retained.

I am constantly hot and have night sweats when I have PMS. It feels a lot like some women describe "hot flashes". I feel like I'm about to combust!

Oh, me! I got the worst night sweats after DD was born, and now I get them every cycle just before/at the beginning of AF.

Yep, me too. But strangely it's usually also the heaviest sleep i get. I'm usually a really light sleeper but during that time i'm knocked out.

I used to get them and it really worried me. I could never see a direct relation to my cycle, but they stopped when I was pregnant and then, like a lot of women, had them horribly a few weeks post-pardom, so I think they were definitely hormone related. I haven't had them since having the baby. They can be an indication of a serious illness, but obviously a lot of people get them without any real reason for concern.

i wasn't really trying to say you have mono, but you could be ill and not know it. there are other medical problems that cause night sweats too. i had these night sweats for months before i was finally diagnosed with mono. though, if you just had a baby then its likely hormonal, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to a dr. about it.

Ok, so it's probably the PMS thing. It was just strange because I've never gotten them before due to PMS. Thanks. :)

My sister and I both overheat terribly at night and suffer from night sweats very consistently. It used to really scare me till I went to the doc and made them test me for everything under the sun. I don't think I've ever paid attention to the sweats compared to my monthly cycle, but being that they can occur night after night for a number of days and then stop, I'm betting thats the cause.

I used to get them almost nightly a few years ago. It was so bad I had the doc test me for a bunch of things... thyroid, hormones, etc...
everything came back negative. So, the only thing I figured out was that it was stress & anxiety... it was happening the whole year before I got married. Ever since our wedding, I have only had night sweats every once in a while. Usually when I have a nightmare. Thank god for marriage! ;)

I get them sometimes too. Most of the time my clothes are just damp - I don't soak through them or anything. I think mine are definitely stress related, but I never thought about the hormonal connection, so I'll have to pay attention to that. A lot of times they come in combination with waking early, so I think that could be due to high levels of cortisol when I'm really very stressed.
But, I also tend to be hot at night during the winter. Our comforter is very heavy and I really get bundled up in it when I go to bed and then I just get hot later on.

Not to scare anyone, but if anyone is experiencing consistent night sweats (not just sweating a little, but drenching clothes) you should really go to a doctor to get tested. Night sweats can be an early sign of lymphoma, or could be because of hypoglycemia or a hormone disorder. I would definitely see a doctor rather than take a chance.

I get them most often when I've had something sugary to drink during the day.

I didn't know that! Good to know... I've woken up a couple times recently with night sweats. I found out just a couple months ago that I have type 1 diabetes, and I've been working with my doctor to adjust the amount of insulin I should take. I knew my blood sugar was low because my heart was racing when I woke up, but knowing that the night sweat is a sympton too is a good tool to have.
