Saw my OB yesterday - I'm 31+3 Weeks with Baby #2.
I'm 2 cm dilated, but still "good and thick" (ie, miniman effacement).
It suprised me quite a bit, but Dr. C. said it wasn't uncommon for repeat pregnancies to dilate faster. He wasn't overly concerned, just told me to take it easy and come back in 1 week. He said he'd seen plenty of women dilated to 2 cm early on, and end up having to induce them past their due date. This is just something to "keep an eye on" for now, he said.
With #1, I did have pPROM at 32.5 weeks, and birth was at 34 weeks (everything went exceptionally well!). So, he's keeping an extra close eye on me this time.
He did say that supposing I got past 34 weeks (he seems to think I will), that if I go into labor after that point they'll just let me go.
Anyone experience early dilation? What I could read on-line suggested that it could easily stay put at 2 cm right up until my due date.... Or things could start to progress in the next couple weeks. Or anything in between.
So, please say a little prayer for us! I'd still much rather be a March Momma than a February Momma! April would be best yet!

At 33 weeks 5 days with baby #2, I was not quite 2 cm dilated. I'm still here, still pregnant at 39 weeks. My doctor also told me that dilation happens sooner with second children but doesn't necessarily mean an early delivery.

Not quite that early, but I was 2 cm at 33w with baby #2. I didn't dilate any further until I went into labor. I went into labor at 38.5w.

Thanks for the feedback ladies - very reassuring for a Momma that has worried a lot about having another premie!
With #2 I was dialated to 2 at about the same time as you. He was born at 36 weeks.

I was dilated to 2 cm at 31 weeks AND was 50% effaced w/ #2 (and 4.5 cm at 37w, for that matter)... and he still wasn't born til 38w 5d. Try not to worry!

I had twins, but at 28 weeks I pretty much had no cervix left and was about 1 cm dilated. I did continue to dilate slowly. Much to everyone's surprise I ened up having to be induced at nearly 38 weeks (full term for twins). By that point I was 5 cm, but still not actually in labour!

Well dialating this early doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have him this early..
I started dialating at 34 weeks (and effacing!) and was 5cm's dialated & 80% effaced when I checked into the hospital, the day he was born (2 days past his EDD) I remember one of the nurses telling me she couldn't believe I was actually walking around at 5cm's...
I had been having intense contractions for 2 weeks prior to having him. Every afternoon they'd start - we'd think this was it - and then they'd stop late evening.
Good luck! I know how anxious the last few weeks are...

wendstress ~ You may remember that when I was 35 wks we found out that I was dilated to nearly 2 cm and having contractions. I could very well have been dilated earlier than that but that's when we found out (after having contractions all afternoon). That pattern continued for the next two wks. I had contractions everyday and even progressed a little further (I was between 2 and 3 cm the day I had DS when we checked in).
My OB was a little concerned because she didn't want me to go into full active labor being that I was going to have a repeat c/s (even though I'd wanted to try for a VBAC after some things happened earlier in my pregnancy we decided against that route), I progressed very quickly with my first (from water breaking to pushing was less than 8 hours), plus we had a 45 minute drive to the hospital in good weather. DS kept getting lower and lower. Finally after two wks of contractions everyday I was in active labor. DS arrived at 37 wks.
We had a few tense moments at first following his arrival (and he spent a few hours being monitored very closely due to complications) but he's doing pretty good now.

38 weeks and 2 days....
Still PG and I'm at 4 cm dilated / 80% effaced.
Who knew? Not sure how the kid isn't falling out.....but he seems pretty content! Actually scheduled a date for induction on 4/12....just in case. Although my OB doesn't actually think I'll make it that long.
