View Full Version : Breast Pump/Accessories on Registry??

Is anyone else really uncomfortable with the idea of putting the breast pump of your choice onto your baby registry? And the accessories (like breast cream, storage containers, etc.)? I keep wanting to do it, but it just feels a bit strange to put such a personal item onto a public list like that. OTOH, the pump that I want is in the higher dollar range and if someone ends up purchasing it for me, it would make money matters a tad easier. I don't know, I guess I just can't quite make up my mind. Thoughts?

I didn't have a problem putting in on my registery, but then I also didn't have a problem discussing breastfeeding with my (male) boss ;)
If you are really uncomfortable doing it...I know we got a TON of gift cards and could have used them towards purchasing breastfeeding supplies.
Also, just as an aside, have you checked with your insurance to see if they would cover a breastpump? Mind did. (as long as the doctor diagnosed me with either cracked/bleeding nipples or poor latch.)

Speaking as a gift-giver, and very pro-bfing person, I would be thrilled to see those items on your list and would be happy to be able to support your BFing efforts.
Also, I really don't see it as something really personal, it's just a normal part of having a baby. :)
ETA: I would probably do what this woman (http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=603871) did for her friend (posts #1 & 13).

Just do it. I see them on registries all the time.

I also see them on registries all the time. Most people looking at baby registries are your female friends and family members anyhow.

I already have a pump but I did put the other stuff on my registry. If nobody wants to buy it then that is fine but it would be nice if they did. :)

I registered for the pump itself, but did not put supplies on the registry. I think I'd feel very uncomfortable w/ someone buying me nipple cream, etc. Because they are so expensive, it might wind up being a gift that a few people pitch in for.
FWIW, my IL's bought the breastpump for me.

I would put all the supplies on there, but most pumps you can find a lot cheaper online than in the stores, when I bought my PIS advanced I saved I think a little over $100 by buying it on line, I'll see if I can find the website for you.

Oh jeez...I didn't even think of looking on eBay! And I call myself the eBay queen....yeah right!! :o

Put it on there. Target sent me a coupon for 10% off everything left on my registry.
If it doesn't get bought you might still be able to get a discount. :)
We put the manual one on the registry. A friend bought it and still jokes about it today. We got the electrical one through our insurance company right after DD was born.

I'm glad I'm not the only that feels that way. I ended up just putting it on there (the pump) but not any of hte supplies.

I agree -- put it on there! I really found the My Brest Friend pillow helpful in the beginning, so I'd suggest that would be a good thing to have on your registry, too. I can see where a person who's had zero contact with breastfeeding might think it weird to buy you a breast pump or nipple cream, but I don't think the pillow would seem quite as intimate.
I put a manual pump on my registry and a friend bought it for me. I was *very* thankful!

I put it on, although I am not sure why you are uncomfortable with putting it on the registery? Do people know you are planning to breastfeed?

Definitely put it on there. It's not a secret that women breastfeed, and by putting it on your registry, you're taking a step to "normalize" breastfeeding. I put a pump on there and my friends bought it for me and said, "Yeah...we went there!"

I agree - it doesn't hurt to put it on there -- nipple cream and all! Every little thing helps. You'll be surprised at how grateful you'll be for the little things people buy for you when you are post partum :)

I'm not uncomfortable with the idea of breastfeeding at all. Its just that some people in our family and social circle are a little 'backwards' in their thinking. In other words, its okay to do it, but not okay to talk about it and/or, God forbid, register for something that tells the whole world you are planning to do it. Very strange.
I took everyone's advice and put a pump, pillow and some other stuff on there. I need it and if someone is willing to get it for me, all the better!
