That was a crazy accident. We were watching the game & saw it happen. I'm actually very glad we weren't at the game!
We watched it as things went down (since Panthers vs. Sabres impacts our teams) and couldn't believe what we were watching. I will say one thing - the Sabres fans were nothing but class acts (and down in my parts, Sabres fans are not exactly loved). When they announced that he was in stable condition, the entire arena gave a standing ovation and you could tell it was a sincere one.

Eh - he's a rental. I don't think they can ever afford to re-sign him. They gave up a lot of youth to get him too. I think it was a stupid move.
You're right but it still annoys me. :)
Another stupid move was the Rangers giving up Montoya and the other Hossa for some Coyote scrubs. :)

I'll miss Bernier! I hope Campbell has a little more success with the Sharks than Guerin did. Dallas scares me with the addition of Richards.
NO KIDDING about Richards. I don't even want to think about that.
The Kings only gave away Stuart (rental) and Aubin for picks. Blake exercised his NTC.

I'm kinda pissed about Ruutu. He was so promising. It'll probably come back and bite us in the ass.
Stuart seemed like he wanted to stay. He has that stoner/surfer vibe to him. He might be back in a Kings uni next season if he since he's a UFA. ;)

Hockey on HD wonderful, but now I'm getting picky about that too. ;) Hockey broadcast on 1080i, like on HDNet, is SOOOOOO much better than a game broadcast on 720p. :p

Bertuzzi needs to just...stop.
I think it is great that Bertuzzi is coming forward and stating that Crawford urged his players to go after Moore. After the hit happend and Moore was being taken off of the ice, Crawford was practically laughing on the bench. It was obvious it was his plan. If Bertuzzi is found guilty in this lawsuit, I think it is fair for Mark Crawford to have to take some of the responsibility as well.

Don't agree. What Bertuzzi did was his own doing. Crawford did say that Moore had to "pay the price," but he didn't give Bertuzzi a diagram of what to do to Moore, then hold a gun to his head and tell him to do it.
Now if the City wants to pursue criminal actions or the Moore family want to sue Crawford, that's a different story.

He's looking good with the Sharks though.
LVP - Sorry we haven't been in touch. I've had a long week and a half.
Anyway this goes in the "Sean Avery is PSYCHO" files.
http://www.newyorker.com/talk/2008/04/28/080428ta_talk_paumgarten
Avery’s more conventional provocation techniques, such as trash-talking, wife-slagging, face-rubbing, slew-footing, slashing, diving, and flopping, may irritate his adversaries even more on account of his unconventional off-ice persona. Not for Avery the typical prairie-boy self-effacement of the hockey man. He has said that he finds sports, and athletes, boring, and that he’d like to be an editor of a fashion magazine. (He’s planning to do a summer internship at Vogue.) Unlike most hockey players, he sees nothing wrong with the fact that he likes to “smell nice occasionally.” He has said that he prizes his black patent-leather Yves Saint Laurent high-tops, “a lovely cashmere throw from a friend who works at Calvin Klein,” and his Philippe Starck machine-gun-shaped lamp (“It lets you know there’s a man living in the house”).
The article even talks about the shit the he pulled on Brodeur during the NYR/NJ series. If you haven't seen it, here you go.

Yeah - JR didn't fare very well with the Kings, did he? I was one of the very few Sharks fans who were excited when he signed with the Sharks. I just adored him from his Blackhawk days, of course. I thought it was interesting that the Sharks pulled their goalie and put the backup in for a whopping 30 seconds before pulling that goalie in favor of an extra attacker. That accomplished nothing other than buying a few extra seconds of rest time for both teams and maybe going over a strategy or two.
Montreal's not so bad. Of course, when the Stars are playing them they become the 'enemy' like any other team, but I've got no beef w/them. I've never much liked the Flyers, but they may be a different team from the Flyers of a few years ago, of Recchi, Desjardins and Leclair. I don't even know who's on the team now. Shows you how little I pay attention to them...doh!
Penguins/Rangers-The Penguins aren't playing too badly right now, even with such a young team, but I really like the Rangers. I'm split between the 2.
Avs/RW's...2 biggies. The Stars have pretty decent rivalries between both of them. I expected more of a fight from the Avs, hopefully it won't be a sweep.

Sean Avery was taken to the hospital around 3am this morning. Apparently he was unconscious and not breathing. TSN is reporting he ruptured his spleen, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
They have a story now.
Sean Avery has a lacerated spleen and will be out for the remainder of the season.
The laceration was detected with a CT scan after Avery was taken to hospital directly following Game 3 with the Penguins.
"He's stable and everything is going to be okay," a team source told TSN.
Avery suffered the injury during Game 3 but the Rangers are unsure of exactly when it occurred. The winger's pain got continuously worse during the game and became more of an issue when play concluded. Team doctor, Dr. Andrew Feldman, suspected Avery had suffered an injury to his spleen and the pair were driven to hospital. Avery entered the hospital under his own power.
According to the team source, Avery never lost consciousness and never stopped breathing, and his condition was never considered life threatening.
The CT scan detected bleeding and the lacerated spleen and Avery is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days.
The Rangers expect Avery to make a full recovery in the off-season.

Ah, although I hope the pens sweep the series (my checkbook loves when the pens sweep the series), I wouldn't count out the Rangers. Everyone thought the pens were done this year with so many key players being hurt and out of the line up for extensive periods of time- they really stepped up and proved everyone wrong. Unfortunately the pens also suffered some losses in tuesday nights game. Talbot broke his foot on a blocked shot and is listed as day to day and Scuderi (he's +6 in the playoffs) is most likely out tonight too (although there hasn't been much info on what he injured). I think Roberts is back though- YEA! Too bad he and Avery won't be able to go at it. They hate each other.

Congrats on winning. I have to disagree that you beat the Sharks *pretty solidly* though. It was a close series that could have very easily gone either way. You were one shot away from a game 7 that would have been a huge choke on the part of the Stars.
So far as the officiating, I think both sides got calls that were helpful and hurtful so saying that the refs were favoring the Sharks makes me wonder what kind of crack you have been smoking.

I meant solid win in that they wrapped it up in 6 games with a 4-2 series win rather than drag it to 7 games with a 1-game winning differential; I was so excited when I was typing my post, I guess I slipped up with my verbage. Oops! 5 of the games were indeed very close, only #2 was truly a "wide" margin win. I was sitting on the edge of my seat for all the games, something that is a no-no in the SJ arena, so it's good I was in the comfort of my own home for those, haha. ;)
For the most part, I thought the officiating was shit for both sides by they definitely favored SJ. Bad calls left and right, and no calls on what should have been blatant penalties for either team. Horrible consistency with icing calls and lack thereof. Etc etc etc. Hopefully for the conference finals, the officiating will be more consistent at least.

It's the rudeness is just not tolerated in the SJ Arena...but you should have been standing like everyone else.
Again, there were calls made that were good or bad for both sides. Saying that they favored San Jose is ludicrous. I read several different analysts thoughts on the series and I listened to several different tv analysts and NOONE has said the calls were skewed towards San Jose. Man, what a great playoff run the Stars had this post season! Any Stars fan who was disappointed by what they did can bite it. They were supposed to lose to both the Ducks and Sharks in rounds 1 and 2 but ended up beating both and making it to the WCF, winning 2 games out of that round which is no easy feat vs Detroit.
How has Detroit lost to Anaheim twice in recent years in the playoffs, but the Stars have never beaten them ever, I don't get it... Anyways, I'm looking forward to next season and also next post season. Maybe this was a confidence and experience builder for the Stars and their younger players,(like the 97-98 post season when they also lost to Detroit in the WCF 4-2) and they'll come out stronger next year and take it even further like they did then.
I still Believe! And couldn't be prouder of my boys.

I only caught today's game but it was worth it! Those last 30 seconds were effing exciting! SO close!
I always feel bad for teams that win away from home though - it must suck to be taking your trophy and have people booing. I hate when people boo the other team. Blech. I know I'm like, the ONLY person who feels that way though! Hehe. :)

I was there last night cheering on my Pens. It was a fun game. Disappointing, but a wonderful season to be a part of.
I always feel bad for teams that win away from home though - it must suck to be taking your trophy and have people booing. I hate when people boo the other team. Blech. I know I'm like, the ONLY person who feels that way though! Hehe
Only a handful of people booed (most are classless drunks who wouldn't know a hockey puck if it was on their dinner plate). Most of the fans stayed and were very respectful, cheering wildly for the pens as they left the ice for providing a great season, and then clapping for the wings when they were presented the cup.
DH and I were sitting in different sections last night- we spit a season with friends and were able to get our hands on a second set of tickets for last night. Me and my friend were in our regular seats and the guys were much farther down below. They had wings fans on each side of them. One who paid $3300 for 3 seats. Never in a million years would I pay that much for tickets to any event (probably because we don't have that kind of money), but I still thought is was a little crazy. They had a good time talking to them all night. The crazy part was, the guy is a season ticket holder in detroit and said he wouldn't go to game 7 if there had been one. Why, oh why, would you spend that much money to go to an away game and then if a final game 7 was needed, not go.
I just wish Ozzy wouldve won the Con Smyth
I don't think he's very good. His defense is what makes him look good. The Wings defense is amazing, but not the goaltending. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back to being a back-up goalie next year. Just my opinion.
Katyanne

I think Hasek will end up retiring for good some time this summer. I think that Ozzy really has become an awesome goalie. I mean I know you're only as good as your team and your team is only as good as your goalie but during the finals Ozzy was an asset and I really think we would've been out maybe in the first or second round if we'd kept Hasek in goal.. Just my .02 cents :)

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Kings have fired coach Marc Crawford with one season left on his contract.
President and general manager Dean Lombardi announced the dismissal Tuesday. No replacement was named.
Crawford coached the Kings for two seasons. The Kings finished this season with the fewest points in the Western Conference.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/16559-Canucks-forward-Trevor-Linden-to-announce-retirement-after-21-NHL-seasons.html
VANCOUVER - Vancouver Canucks forward Trevor Linden has decided to call it a career after 21 seasons in the NHL.
Linden, 38, will make the announcement Wednesday at a news conference, a source told The Canadian Press.
The Canucks selected Linden second overall in the 1988 and he would go on to play 16 seasons in Vancouver. He helped the Canucks reach Game 7 of the 1994 Stanley Cup final.
In 1,382 games Linden scored 375 goals, added 492 assists and collected 867 penalty minutes.
In 59 games last season he had seven goals and five assists.
Off the ice, Linden remained one of the most popular Canucks and was involved in local charities.

Who's up for free agency and who are you going to be sad to see go?
Lets see- there's so many to choose from in Pittsburgh:(
Brooks Orpik- he had a rough start this season, but really got it together half way through. He's really physical and is a great pairing with Gonchar who is more technical on defense.
Ryan Malone- a gritty player who works so hard every time he's out there. Who else has his nose broken twice in the same series and barely misses any ice time. Plus, he's home grown- there certainly aren't many NHL players from Pittsburgh.
Marion Hossa- Part of me thinks they should keep him and let Malkin go eventually. I don't think Malkin will stay happy in Pittsburgh. He's one of the best in the league (excluding the finals when he barely showed up to play) and how long can a player like that stay happy playing second line and possibly never being a captain.
Mark Eaton- Don't know how I feel about him probably going. He's supposed to be our top defensiveman, but who would know since he's been hurt the better of 2 seasons.
Ty Conklin- I love a come back story. Moving towards the end of his career- maybe never going to get another shot playing in the big leagues and then does, only because of injuries and plays outstanding! He easily could have been the team MVP this year.
Gary Roberts- Even though he's been hurt a lot this year and his age may just be catching up to him- we love him here. I also love someone that's older than me doing well at an elite level- makes me feel less old.
Rutuu- Everyone loves a pain in the ass when they play for your team. His name is so fun to say too when he makes a big hit or scores a goal. I'll also never forget seeing him take the puck 1/2 way down the ice this year soccer style without his stick and then make a pass to Talbot that almost scored a goal.
Georges Laraque- Seems like such a nice guy- genuinely- does so much for charity and really seems to LOVE playing the game. He's just a good guy to have on a team for all the good he does for the city he's playing in.
Pascal Dupuis- He was a good addition this year and seems to have the speed to keep up with Crosby.
Our other 2 are Adam Hall and Jeff Taffe- Hall was also hurt a lot this year, so I don't know much about how he fits in and Taffe is still young, but fun to watch. July 1st can't come fast enough so I can start looking foward to next year.
Personally, I hope the Kings can sign Brooks Orpik, but he's not going to come cheap.

Who's up for free agency and who are you going to be sad to see go?
From the Stars:
Mattias Norstrom: I believe Matty just announced his retirement, I'll be sad to see him go.
Stu Barnes: Would hate to see this feisty guy go, hopefully he'll get re-signed soon please!
Niklas Hagman: We've had a couple solid seasons from Niklas, so I would like to see him get re-signed by the Stars.
Antti Miettinen: I know there are a lot of Antti-haters in the Big D, but I'm pretty neutral about Uncle Antti. Wouldn't miss him too badly but really would prefer if he stayed.
Brad Winchester: I think he has some good years coming up, he really stepped in when some of the veteran players were hurt this season. Would like to see him get some more time in the lineup if he stays.
Johan Holmqvist: Our back up goalie...he's played like 2 games. 3.75 GAA. No comment.
Dan Jancevski: Did this guy even play any games this past season? His name looks vaguely familiar but I have no idea who he is.
Nolan Baumgartner: I don't think he's played much this season, b/c I remember him most from when he was on the Caps way back. Don't know how he's been playing recently so he's another one I don't have any feelings about any one way or another. I think he was sent to the minors by the Stars.

Gees, as if the Wings weren't good enough they have to go and add Hossa and Conklin to the roster:mad: I think Hossa is only as good as the best player he's paired up with, but that should be no problem in Detroit.
Seems like we're loosing everyone. Ruutu is gone, Malone is gone, Hall is gone. LaRaque isn't far off since they signed some other fighter I've never heard of. This stinks. There's also reports that they made an offer to Jagr. Not sure the fans in Pittsburgh will like that at first. When he left in the 90s, it was not on a nice note and even still he's booed everytime he touches the puck when he plays here.
I was thinking the other day..... I'm a big sports fan all around with Hockey being my fav and football not far behind. I never feel too bad when the Steelers start switching up their team, but with hockey it seems like you're loosing family (not really family, but it seems more personal when guys decide to go play elsewhere). Anyone else feel that way?

Ok, not NHL related, but yikes.
There's the "agony of defeat." And then there's this women's ice hockey score from the European Olympic pre-qualifying tournament: Slovakia 82, Bulgaria 0.
That's correct: eighty-two goals for Slovakia, none for Bulgaria.
The International Ice Hockey Federation said the result, from a game played Saturday at the tournament in Liepaja, Latvia, set a record score for a women's IIHF-sanctioned event. It was not the all-time record for futility, however; that is still held by Thailand, which lost 92-0 to South Korea in the 1998 Asia-Oceania U18 Championship.
Slovakia, which won all four of its games at the tournament, outshot Bulgaria 139-0, scoring on 58.9 percent of their shots on goal. They averaged one goal every 44 seconds.
Bulgaria trailed 7-0 after 5 minutes, 19-0 after 10 and 31-0 at the end of the first period.
The drubbing capped a woeful showing for the Bulgarian women, who also lost 30-1 to Croatia and 41-0 to Italy in earlier games.

TSN released their power rankings this week - Sharks are #1 and Blackhawks are #2. It was a pretty picture. :D
I entered the lottery for Winter Classic tickets. With my luck, I will actually be chosen and not be able to afford to go to the game.

Well MY team is ranked number 23, just above the Predators that beat your Sharks. ;)
I hope you win those tix and are able to make it. That game will be awesome.

What can I say? Dan Ellis won that game for the Preds. Sharks had so many scoring ops and Ellis was all over them. (Blake scored though...almost had to send you a text of the news! LOL)

The Tampa Bay Lightning have relieved head coach Barry Melrose of his duties and named associate coach Rick Tocchet interim head coach.
Bwa ha ha ha ha!!! :p
I was just coming in here to post that!!!
SHOCKER! :p

Sharks unveiled their 3rd jersey. I actually like it. I like the lacing on the front, the teal outlining on the numbers and the small orange fin logo on the shoulder.

The Kings unveil their third jersey tomorrow against the Avs.
I've been checking out this site (http://www.icethetics.info/) to see leaked photos of all the jerseys. Not sure if I like the Kings jersey.
Did you see Ovechkin's hit on Dustin Brown last night?? It was kind of dirty and Alex was rolling around trying to make it seem like he was victimized by Brown even though he initiated the hit...When he got called for the interference penalty, he totally changed his tune and got angry! What a douche. :p
Brown scored on that powerplay too. :D

Hrmmmm....I don't know if I like the Kings' 3rd jerseys or not. I'll have to see the team wearing them for a game to make up my mind.
I didn't see the hit on Ovechkin, unfortunately. I'll have to search for it on youtube or something.
Todd and Ed are flying up tomorrow to see the Caps and the Sharks. Ed is a big Caps fan for some reason...I am pretty sure they were at the Kings game last night as well.
I'm torn between feeling sorry for Beauchemin's injury and just being happy he will be out for so long...:p

No no... Ovechkin hit Brown, then was acting dramatic afterward...then Alex got even more stupid after he received a penalty for the hit. It was amusing.

Wow - it's not even my birthday!!!
(Of course I don't wish injury on any player, but I'm so glad I don't have to watch this a-hole play for a long, long time!!)
Dallas Stars left winger Brenden Morrow is out indefinitely with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will require surgery. He is expected to miss up to six months.
Because the Stars being the 2nd worst team in the league right now isn't good enough for you? :p Not a fan of Morrow either, but I like him better than Beauchemin! ;)
I'm so glad that Boucher is out of there. I don't know whether to feel bad for Sydor or not. :p

Of all the days to have the hoopla over the new jersey unveiling, you think they could actually broadcast the game in HD. :(
I like the jersey better than I thought I would, but my favorite is still the older alternate jersey (the purple with the lace up).

Sharks kicked the crap out of the Caps tonight - 7-2.
Hey Y - Your boy, Blake, had 4 assists and was the number one star of the game. Ha ha ha!! I think he's 4th in the league for scoring for defensemen.

The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars' forward Sean Avery indefinitely, pending a hearing with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and Avery will not be playing in tonight's game against the Calgary Flames.
Avery is being suspended for disparaging remarks he made this morning in reference to Calgary player Dion Phaneuf and Phaneuf's girl friend Elisha Cuthbert, who previously had a relationship with Avery.
"I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada," Avery said on camera this morning in Calgary. "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."
The hearing will take place in accordance with the NHL Constitution, for conduct "detrimental to the League or game of hockey," the NHL announced today

Just for you Y...:D
Rob Blake was named the Sharks' player of the month for November. He was the NHL's most productive defenseman for the month with five goals and 16 points in 13 games.
Blake began the game with 20 points — third best among NHL defensemen — and added another with an assist on San Jose's first goal.
BOOOO!
Isn't he a PP specialist with the Sharks and not really required to play actual defense? ;)
He had 9 goals all of last season. F-er.

Bwa ha ha ha ha!! Just shows what he can still do on a quality team. :p
I take back being pissed the Sharks spent 5 million on him. So far, he's been worth every penny!
I want this Littlearth San Jose Sharks Fender Flair Purse for Christmas. Too bad it's $325. I like the Sharks one more than the Blackhawks purse. The Kings one is pretty nice too.

Haven't posted in this thread in a while, but just wanted to say I think Avery is a disappointment...Feel sorry for his family.
Also disappointing that he played OHL here...wish he was never associated with Owen Sound.

So Avery gets 6 games. Think he will stay with Dallas or will they put him on waivers and try to dump his sorry ass?

I doubt that Dallas will keep him. Their AHL affiliate doesn't want him. I'm sure they'll out him on waivers, he'll clear and then they'll cut their losses.
Maybe Europe is in his future? Or B list celebrity show?

Maybe he could be the next Bachelor? :p
How bout those Sharks?? 22-3-1 with 9 wins in a row!! They were horrible in the first period last night. Nabby saved that game many times over.
Cheli is playing a conditioning stint this weekend so hopefully he'll be playing with the Wings soon!

Hrmmmmm....watched the Sharks beat the Kings last night and am currently watching the Blackhawks demolish the Oilers 9-1 with still lots of time on the clock.
Life is good!!!
I bet you weren't gloating when the Sharks lost to the Blue Jackets and then lost to the Red Wings. The Sharks are in trouble! ;)
The Lightning just waived Jussi Jokinen. We'll see if he ends up a King tomorrow.

Uhhhh....the Columbus game was just the case of us skating circles around them, running into a hot goalie and them getting lucky....still sucks ass though.
I don't want to talk about the Wings game. That was just horrible on every level. (I couldn't even closetly root for the Wings because Cheli wasn't playing.)

Something similar happened to the Kings during the Rangers game, but instead of running into a hot goalie, the hit tons of posts...and the Kings had LaBarbera in net. he sucks so bad. I can't wait for Ersberg to return.
Did you see that BS call during the shootout of the Avs/Lightning game last night?

Not much to contribute- it's been awhile since I've checked in.
Just disappointed that I have tickets for the Pens game tomorrow night and have to give them up to go to my holiday work party instead- UGH

It's been so quiet around here lately. Anyone manage to make it to the Winter Classic?
The Pens have been absolutely horrible lately. It's so depressing. Well, I take that back- they were horrible until the past 2 games. Now that they seem to be playing a lot better, they still can't get a single bounce to go their way. That and the goal tending seems to be going downhill. Yesturday they controlled most of the game and due to crappy goal tending they lost 6-1. Really bad. Hope it turns around soon. It's almost hard to watch.
