Yes, but the Kings actually have "depth" now. The Manchester Monarchs are one of the best teams in the AHL. The Kings actually have more prospects coming in then they have spots for them, so some deals are going to happen soon. Check this out: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/los_angeles_kings

and I forgot to mention O'Sully in my last post. He was amazing in these last few games of the season. I think he's really going to take off next year. But, yeah..."next year." ;)

Thanks for that link!

I am actually really excited for next year (but I feel like I say that a lot.) But, like you say, we actually cleared room to get some fresh blood (as much as I liked Avery, he wasn't much of a loss.)

BTW...I love that you named your son Mattias! Love that name. :)

(4) Nashville vs (5) San Jose
I don't know. But this is going to be a hella good series. I guess I'll root for the Preds just to piss LVP off. ;) Go Foppa Go!

My picks/predictions:

WESTERN CONFERENCE
(1) Detroit vs (8) Calgary
Gotta go with Detroit - Cheli is my all time fav player!

(2) Anaheim vs (7) Minnesota
Duh - Sharks fan - HATE the Ducks - Go Wild!

(3) Vancouver vs (6) Dallas
Ummm...Vancouver

(4) Nashville vs (5) San Jose
SHARKS SHARKS SHARKS!!!!!

EASTERN CONFERENCE

(1) Buffalo vs (8) NY Islanders
Gotta go with Buffalo because I still think they got screwed in the Dallas series - that should NOT have been a goal. However, I am happy to see Ted Nolan coaching in the NHL again so I wouldn't mind seeing them win either.

(2) New Jersey vs (7)Tampa Bay
Eh - don't really care either way, but I think NJ will win with no problems.

(3) Atlanta vs (6) NY Rangers
Hate Shanahan (how is Mrs. Janney?) so I will pick the Thrashers for the upset.

(4) Ottawa vs (5) Pittsburgh
Would prefer Ottawa just because I am sick of the commentators slobbering all over Sidney Crosby. Yeah - he's great. We ALL get it but don't need it continually drilled into our heads ever 10 seconds of a broadcast.

WESTERN CONFERENCE
(1) Detroit vs (8) Calgary
Detroit hasn't had a very good playoff run in the past few years, so I'm banking on that and going with Calgary.

(2) Anaheim vs (7) Minnesota
Duh. Ducks!

(3) Vancouver vs (6) Dallas
I'm not a fan of either, and though we could beat Dallas easily (even though there's no possible scenario for us to play them, unless it was the Western Conference Final), I'm going with Vancouver.

(4) Nashville vs (5) San Jose
I think San Jose will come out on top with this one. Do I want them to? Not really, but I don't care for Nashville either. LVP, my DH thinks that Cheechoo is the most overrated player in the NHL.

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1) Buffalo vs (8) NY Islanders
Buffalo should win this one easily. As awesome as Dubie is playing, I don't think he's any match. However, I do believe that Buffalo is in for an upset somewhere along the line, and they won't make it to the final. I'm just making that prediction now.

(2) New Jersey vs (7)Tampa Bay
I hate New Jersey (flashback to 2003), so I'd like Tampa Bay to win, but I think NJ is going to take this one.

(3) Atlanta vs (6) NY Rangers
I think the Rangers are going to come out on top.

(4) Ottawa vs (5) Pittsburgh
As great as the kids are, I don't know that they can carry the team through the playoffs, I'm going with Ottawa.

I'm sad my Avs didn't make it-they put up such a great fight at the end of the season too. I was also cheering for the TMLs too. Ah well, there's always next year! :)

Yessss! Another Stars fan. :D :D I'm glad I made it by here before playoffs got totally under way.

Ok, I'm gonna play this one too...and my picks are pretty much based solely on my emotions and longstanding rivalries, etc, LOL.

WESTERN CONFERENCE
(1) Detroit vs (8) Calgary
I hate Detroit (too many Stars/RW's rivalries from years past) but I do like Canadian teams, especially Calgary. Go Flames!!

(2) Anaheim vs (7) Minnesota
Um, well for starters I hate the Ducks (even moreso when my mom, a quackers season ticket holder for the last 14 seasons, forwards me Ducks related emails and vows to dress my baby in quacker wear-eew!). I do like the Wild though, as former Star Manny Fernandez is one of my favorite goaltenders (but he's injured and not starting playoffs, boo!).

(3) Vancouver vs (6) Dallas
The Stars of course!! This Stars fan of the last 15 years has to root for them even after the disappointment of bowing out in the first round last postseason. I do normally like Vancouver, but for now they're the enemy.

(4) Nashville vs (5) San Jose
I hate the Sharks (actually come to think of it I hate all teams in the Pac Div other than the Stars) for a long time now. Although Tootoo (Nashv) injured Robidas (Dallas) a month or so ago, I'll root for the Preds just the same.

Wait a minute. I just now realized that the Avs didn't make playoffs. <insert evil grin/laugh here>

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1) Buffalo vs (8) NY Islanders
I don't like the Sabres. Mostly because of all the whining they did in the 99 Stanley Cup finals.  The Islanders always seem to be the underdog, so I'm wishing them the best!

(2) New Jersey vs (7)Tampa Bay
I also hate the Devils (mostly b/c they have several of my favorite former Stars in Matvichuk, Langenbrunner and Lukowich :(I miss them ) but I've always liked Tampa Bay. I'd like my former 'boys' to do well, but I'll have to root for TB.

(3) Atlanta vs (6) NY Rangers
Let's go, Ran-gers! I don't know anything about Atlanta but I have liked the Rangers since the Mike Gartner/Jari Kurri/Mark Messier/Adam Graves years.

(4) Ottawa vs (5) Pittsburgh
I dig Ottawa and I'll root for them, but I'll tell my friend that works for the Pens that I'm rooting for her team. Shh, don't tell.

Oh, yeah... and GO STARS!!

Rancid13

(3) Vancouver vs (6) Dallas
I'm going to go with Dallas for this one. A friend played two games with them (:p, I'm a loser) and I'm not a huge Vancouver fan...Sorry Kara if you're reading this!!!

You've piqued my curiousity. Who's your friend??

And tickets are just as hard these days trying to get to a Vancouver game! Every game is a sellout, if you can get tickets they're single seats, and at least 80% are held by corporations. So unless I'm willing to give up my first born... no games for me.

I just want to go to fricken' sleep! We're heading into our second overtime right now! They said it would be an exciting series!

The Stars/Canucks game was crazy long! I found myself rooting for Luongo since he was playing his ass off. 72 saves, that's crazy. Welcome to the playoffs Roberto! The Stars had some many scoring opportunities that they couldn't capitalize on.

I also found that I couldn't root for the Preds. I was watching the game and remembered that I can't stand Jordin Tootoo. I hope Jonathan Cheechoo is well enough to comeback for this series - I doubt it though :(. That was a nasty hit by Scott Hartnell . Thornton played an excellent game. So did Grier. I'm glad the Sharks won I can't beleive I said that. ;)

I only caught the tail end of the Sens/Pens game. I forgot to DVR it.

No comment on the Wild/Ducks game. The Wild better wins this series.

Damn, I forgot to set my DVR to record all the games this afternoon! I guess I need to go home early. :o

*yawn* Yes - I just woke up after being up late watching the Stars/Canucks game. (Well, I was up a few times with Katie, but now I am awake for the day!) So glad to see Vancouver win that game! What a playoff debut for Luongo!

Fricking Hartnell! I just don't know what else to say about that hit. Of course the SHarks won't say how bad the injury is, but I will be shocked if Cheechoo plays again this playoffs. It definitely looked like an MCL injury which is NOT good.

I was screaming at Rissmiller when he didn't get the puck cleared when he had the opportunity and it led to Nashville tying the game. Then I was so happy he was the one who scored the game winner! What a way to redeem yourself.

Just piping in to say while Atlanta lost, I'm glad Belanger made the first Atlanta goal in their first playoff. Carolina made a mistake letting him go so I'm glad to see him succeed in another franchise.

And these games are really screwing up my programming. I have to opt to go 3-4 hours over for each game, just in case! And curse the scheduling to have three games running at once, with the ability to only record 2!

Thursdays are always bad days for us becuase of the other shows we watch. I can't believe I am admitting to this, but we have three tvs set up in our living room. I can watch three games at one time and I usually do at this time of the year. Also, we are now up to FOUR Tivos so that helps as well. Well, three Tivos (one with a dual tuner) and the DirecTV HD DVR unit as well (it also has a duel tuner). It's almost like living in my own sports bar. I just wish I had someone to serve me food!

I am heading up to my parents house for the weekend. I have already warned my mom what time of year it is so I will be commandeering her tv and Tivo when I get there. The only thing that sucks is that she doesn't have Center Ice so I will miss a game or two, but my dad is sick and was in the hospital last night so I can't really flake on going up for a visit either...:p

The reports on Cheech are that he has a sprained knee. People have also reported that he is walking with a limp, but with no crutches. Of course I don't believe he has a sprained knee, but the no crutches thing is a bit promising if the Sharks win this series...

Ahh. I was just curious b/c I remember a handful of guys over the years who've only played a few games w/the Stars. Most notable being Steve Martinson who played a few games when they were still the Northstars and was more recently head coach of the San Diego Gulls of the WCHL for a number of years (ie: hottest coach I've ever seen), LOL. :) Hmm, now he's in Rockford I guess (east coast?). Yeah, it seemed like the Stars overpowered them from the get-go especially with that go ahead goal 24 seconds in, and the Canucks were never able to catch up from there. Boy were those refs penalty-happy or what?

L'il Bit

The refs were definitely penalty-happy the other night, but last night they were much better. This battle of the goalies is killing me! Being on the edge of my seat for 60 minutes is not good for my heart.

X-posted from my LJ:

First of all, woo hoo Ducks! We beat Minnesota 4-1 to advance to the Western Conference Semifinals. We're also the first team out of the West to move on.

So here's the good stuff. There was a group of 4 Minnesota Wild fans - 1 girl, 3 guys, one guy wearing a Wild jersey (I'll call him White Minnesota because he was wearing a white Minnesota jersey). White Minnesota was a complete ass during the game, turning around and telling us all that we didn't know anything about hockey. That's right, the mere fact that I live in California is enough to convince anyone to think that we know nothing about hockey. Whatever.

I ended up getting into it with White Minnesota, as did a lot of other people, because I absolutely hate it when people are so rude and nasty like that. At one point during the second period, Minnesota scored to tie the game, and White Minnesota would not sit down after he got up to clap. He was blocking peoples' views, and despite the numerous requests from everyone, he still wouldn't sit down. He just stood there and clapped.

At one point, this guy sitting in front of us (I will refer to him as Green Duck, because he was wearing a green jacket and was cheering for the Ducks) grabbed the guy's hat and put it on his own head. For what reason, I have no clue. When he tossed the hat back to the guy, his friend (I'll call him Black Minnesota, because he was wearing a black shirt, you get the idea) started saying "Did you just take his hat?" over and over again. At that point, Black Minnesota grabbed Green Duck, and when that happened, Green Duck's friend, Black Duck, jumped over the row he was in and launched himself at Black Minnesota. I think that at this point, Green Duck also went after White Minnesota. They all ended up falling on the row in front of them, and one guy sitting in the stands hurt his neck and shoulder.

Eventually, a couple of people from the section next to ours came over and held back White Minnesota and I think they held back Black Minnesota too. It seemed to take forever for the security guards to get there, but once they got there, we all pointed to White Minnesota to let them know that he was the one who started all the trouble. Then they took the two Minnesota fans to talk to them. The guards came back up a few minutes later to get the Ducks fans too. The Minnesota fans ended up getting kicked out of the arena, and they let the Ducks fans stay, which surprised the hell out of me.

It took a while for everything to calm down, and then we all kind of realized that there was a hockey game going on in front of us, so we sat down and enjoyed it after that. But damn, what a crazy night. Fun times!

Plus, he thought our team was afraid of Boogaard because no one wanted to fight him . Boogaard doesn't fight, he just sticks his knee out and tries to hurt people.

Did anyone watch the Red Wings Flame game today??

What the heck was that??? With 5 minutes left in the game they take Kiprusoff out and replace him with Mclennan only to have him in there for half a minute before he just halls off slashes one of our guys and he's off the ice again. I was getting awfully tired of having our guys pummeled by these goons. It was obvious to me as the game wore on they were trying anything they could to rattle the Wings.

I hope we crush them into the ground tomorrow, no offense to any Flames fans but that was ridiculous today. Plus they wouldn't cut Cleary a break either.

Definitely some interesting and brutal plays going on in some of these games. Luckily my Sharkies eliminated the Preds without anyone else getting hurt.

Heather - Don't you just love hockey *fans*? I get ridiculed for being a California hockey fan because, since I am native Californian, I can't possibly know anything about hockey. It's so irritating. I've been a hockey fan since around 1986 or so and even used to do a mini hockey spot on the local sports radio station since they were clueless about the game.

What irritates me the most are the fans who do not know or bother to follow basic hockey fan etiquette! Last season I was working for a major corporate sponsor for the Sharks and I had 5th row seats for several games. At one game, some chick sitting a row in front of me and a few seats over kept leaning WAY forward in her seat. After my view was blocked for several minutes, I very politely asked her to please not lean so far forward becuase she was blocking the view of everyone behind her. Well, she rattles off quite the list of expletives. We almost got into a physical altercation. It was insane. Right afterwards, Joe Ike, the PA Announcer, made an announcement over the loudspeaker for people to not sit forward in their seats. It was pretty funny. After the end of the period, she actually apologized to me. I think her date, put her in her place or something...it turned out to be kinds funny!

I would like to see the Red Wings play the Sharks in the next round...but only after they play a full 7 game series with Calgary so they are beat up and tired...;)

I don't know what came over McLennan...ummm - wow!

Gotta love it when your team comes back and ties up the series after being down 3-1 previously. And definitely gotta love it when the 3 games your team wins are shutouts. Way to go Marty! We all saw the stats...20 teams have come back from 3-1 deficits to win the series, and 4 of those were vs. Vancouver. :D I just reminded myself that I have to check out the Stars website for any info they give on Sergei and Brendan's injuries. Can't wait for game 7. I'll be on the edge of my seat for the whole game. Speaking of sitting...

At one game, some chick sitting a row in front of me and a few seats over kept leaning WAY forward in her seat. That's the most ridiculous 'rule' I've ever heard of. I've been to a pretty decent amount of hockey arenas (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, 3 in LA, Anaheim, 2 in Phoenix, Long Beach, Bakersfield, San Diego, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Dallas, and SJ) and SJ was the first time I'd ever heard the 'no leaning forward in your seat' rule. I'm sure I pissed off a lot of Sharks fan when I continued to lean forward after being asked not to, though. Not all the way forward, mind you. My back was maybe 6-8" off the back of the seat because it's just not that comfortable to sit ramrod-straight up in those chairs. And it's not my fault their arena is designed so poorly that one can block others' views by leaning forward a few inches in their seat. I do have a problem with people who stand and refuse to sit during play, and/or choose to return to their seats while play has resumed...

And speaking of poorly-designed arenas, the award has to go out to the Coyotes' old arena, where there were a lot of seats with obstructed views. Once our seats were so bad that we couldn't see an entire 1/3 of the ice at one end. Needless to say (as we usually do when we buy cheap seats at any game), we scouted new lower level seats and moved there during 1st intermission.

Lucy Van Pelt
04-22-2007, 10:13 PM
It's called common courtesy. I didn't say a fan had to sit completely with their back pressed against their seat. I don't sit like that and I don't expect anyone else to either. However, I do expect fans to NOT sit in the very front of their seat and lean so far forward that no one behind them can see any part of the goal - especially when they aren't even watching the game, but taking pictures of themselves during play. I have also been to many arenas and if someone is sitting that far forward in their seats, it doesn't matter what arena you are sitting at - you can't see through them. The San Jose arena is not poorly designed. It just sometimes has inconsiderate and selfish fans that don't care if anyone can see except for them.

t3h_wookiee
04-23-2007, 12:12 PM
I just don't see how sitting forward in the seats can block the view. That makes no sense to me. Maybe the Ford Center and the AA Center are better designed or something, as I've never had my view blocked from that before. And I'm not that tall either.

stevesbabygirl
04-23-2007, 06:13 PM
At the Honda Center, it's very easy for someone sitting forward to block your view, especially up in the nosebleeds. I think it probably depends on how sharp the incline of the section is. And even if it's a relatively small incline, it's like someone sitting in front of you at a movie theater; it's hard to see directly what's in front of you.

I don't get it either. The only time my view has ever been blocked at a hockey games whether I'm in the nosebleeds or in the lower level has been when someone is either standing instead of sitting, or filing past me during play. And I'm all of 5'2" on a good day.

If it's an old-school movie theatre with non-stadium style seating I've had problems seeing the screen when someone tall sits in front of me, but those are pretty hard to come by these days around here. In all other theatres I have yet to have a problem with a tall person sitting smack in front of me and obstructing my view.

Holy penalties, batman!
There were some horrible calls, and some deserved calls. But I'm surprised that there were that many calls in game 7.
Poor Turco. He was a class act all the way. It was definitely a hard fought game the whole way, and the score didn't reflect the play of the Stars at all.
I hope it doesn't go to 7 games vs. the Ducks.

ITA. Good series but definitely disappointed in the ultimate outcome. Now, cheering for someone in the west is going to be tough. And as hard as it's going to be to root for the team that just upset mine in round 1, I liked Vancouver before we played them and I don't know any Canucks fans (IRL) that are going to stick it in my face if they advance. Can't say the same for the other 3 teams though...

yby1
04-24-2007, 12:16 PM
The problem is that people will sit on the edge of their seats and also lean over. When you are looking down at play, that will block anyones view - it has nothing to do with stadium design.

So ready for tonight...I can't believe the Rangers have had a whole week off..that could be good or bad...we shall see soon.
I'm just bummed that it's a Versus only telecast. I love my MSG announcers and hate when I have to watch games that they aren't calling. Plus, here in the NYC area, there are apparently several areas that don't even get Versus, so there are alot of unhappy fans.

Just another dumb move by the NHL...first round they had all 3 local teams playing on the same night....way to get more viewers/ratings  (which have been awful so far)

Well, as a Canucks fan, tonight's game vs. the Ducks was entirely disappointing after the 1st 10 minutes. I don't know what happened to them, they were completely outplayed. I don't doubt that Anaheim is a great team and that they were the better team tonight... but someone tell me how it's possible that Selanne can push Burrows AFTER the whistle and Burrows gets the penalty?

I hope the Canucks remember to come out and play on Friday.

stevesbabygirl
04-25-2007, 11:33 PM
Even as a Ducks fan, I was surprised that Selanne didn't get called for that either. I think his mouth tends to get him in trouble more than anything, as was evidenced by the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he got during the first period.

That first Vancouver goal made me nervous; I was afraid they were riding the high from their series against Dallas, but Anaheim was able to shake the rust off and make it happen.

Speaking of my Sharkies...I hope they play up to their potential in Detroit. They don't have a very good history playing at the Joe. Homer and Lebda are not playing tonight so that makes me a bit more optimistic.

Lucy,

Our tickets are up in the nosebleeds, basically straight back from where the Ducks shoot 1st and 3rd. I actually really like our seats because we can see the whole span of ice in front of us. Unfortunately, we have to move back a row next season, unless we want to basically pay more than double what we're paying now . They have these buy 2, get 2 seats free sections, and this upcoming season, that incorporates the row we're sitting in. Ah well :).

We're in section 422, row N:

One of my best friends sits in a similar spot here in SJ. She's been in the same seats for over 10 years now. She's thought about upgrading to lower bowl, but she now has all the friends near her and like it there.

Can you please tell the people who sit behind the goal and wear the SAME neon green/yellow jackets to wear something else for a change?? I'm tired of watching the game and always having my attention drawn to them and their obnoxious jackets. ;)

You're too funny yby1 :D! It does seem like a pretty easy decision, because in the last class, they just talk about c-sections and postpartum recovery, but then it also says they do a final labor rehearsal and then a graduation, and me being a dork, really wanted to do the graduation :p.

I told my DH that if we end up not going, we should give our tickets to my brother and dad. They're big Kings fans, so they don't get to see playoffs. But he says he can probably get about $100 a ticket for this game. Too many tough decisions!

I do plan to talk to the instructor tonight and see how crucial it would be for us to be there. YES, I VALUE HOCKEY MORE THAN MY UNBORN CHILD! Call CPS on me now :p!

I'm happy to have impressed you Katie :D! I do know Draper's name, along with a handful of other players - Chelios (duh!), Hasek (duh!), Schneider, and my DH's personal favorite (NOT!) Maltby! Federov used to be a Duck, but we traded him last season to Columbus.

I would absolutely miss a class for a hockey game. Just read through the booklet and you can ask the instructor questions if you have any.

You should also learn the name "Holmstrom". I just hope he's as much of a duck killer as he was a shark killer.

Heather, As a fellow Ducks fan and one who has gone through L&D twice, I have to chime in! :) I don't know when your due date is but if you have some "time," I would definitely skip class and go to the Ducks game. I found that the instructors do not necessarily give you any "new" information as most(if not all) the information can be found in the handout. Once the baby comes, it will not be so easy sneaking away to a hockey game, let alone the playoffs! I would go and enjoy it while you can! ;)

Exactly! Your little one will be 3 months old during pre-season. I've taken mine to King's games, but it's definitely more difficult. We did two pre-season games and those were easier than the regular season games since it was less crowded and loud.

Anaheim Ducks defenceman Chris Pronger has been suspended for one game by the National Hockey League. Pronger received the suspension after Detroit forward Tomas Holmstrom was drilled into the boards Tuesday night in the Red Wings' 5-0 victory in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final. Holmstrom was cut after getting hit into the glass by Pronger and Anaheim forward Rob Niedermayer on the play in question.

Ontario billionaire Jim Balsillie, who has a letter of agreement to buy the Nashville Predators for $220 million, has reactivated a lease agreement for rights to use Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, for an NHL team.

Mayor Fred Eisenberger told the Hamilton Spectator that Balsillie "has assured me that he wants to secure a team and he is interested in bringing it to Hamilton."

While I agree that the hit that Neil put on McDonald was bad and worthy of a major penalty, Pronger received his suspension most likely because he's a repeat offender, plus McAmmond was injured.

Yes, it's a bit unfortunate IMO. There was no display of real offensive skill (read: Flash) during these finals. But it's not like this current Ducks team is like the '75 Flyers...

I think that had to do a lot with Ottawa, they certainly wern't the team I'm used to seeing play the Leafs and I think it has a lot to do with 2 teams playing 2 different styles of hockey. When the Ducks got up by a couple goals they started playing the trap too, which is pretty darn boring to watch.

I don't think I am too happy about this trade...

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired goaltender Vesa Toskala and winger Mark Bell from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for first and second-round picks in 2007 and a 2009 fourth-round pick.

yby1
06-22-2007, 02:15 PM
Kinda complicated if you ask me.

from TSN
The first round pick is set for 2007, but if the player the Sharks want isn't available, San Jose has the option to move the pick to 2008 with a top 10 protection covering the Leafs. That means if Toronto's 2008 pick is a top 10 pick then it will slide to 2009.

Yeah, but it was kinda impractical. Neither one of them were very happy with only playing 50% of the games. They are both #1 goalies and the Sharks knew they could get something for them. I'm just surprised the trade wasn't made last off season.

Kings rookie camp started on Tuesday. Very interesting indeed since the Kings have so many prospects! Brian Boyle is HUGE, I don't think he's quite NHL ready though. One kid that looks pretty amazing, from what I've seen during development camp and this week, is Wayne Simmonds. He's quick, aggressive and and has potential to become a great power forward. He just needs to work on the puck handling a little bit, but he impressed me. Some interesting news...

Eric Lindros is expected to announce his retirement Thursday after 13 seasons in the NHL, according to a report.

The 34-year-old forward played for the Dallas Stars last season and became an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He had 372 goals and 493 assists in 760 games for Philadelphia, Toronto, the New York Rangers and Dallas.

It's not surprising, of course. I was never a fan of his due to the whole mess of when he was drafted and refusing to play for Quebec.

yby1

I'm not surprised about Lindros. I didn't like him after refusing to play for the Nordiques either, but that really worked out in Quebec/Colorado's favor in the long run.

Scott Niedermayer is thinking of returning to the Ducks next month. MAKE UP YOUR MIND SCOTT!

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Scott Niedermayer has begun skating and could return to the Ducks by mid-December.

Niedermayer's agent, Kevin Epp told the LA Times that the four-time Stanley Cup Champion has not yet made a decision and that he does not expect the defenceman to make one for "another month" but that the 34-year old Niedermayer has been practicing with former Ducks Travis Green and Jeff Friesen.

That was when I started not liking him. I used to call him Ewic Lindwos because he was such a big baby. :p

Anyone else catch JR's 500th goal? LOL That was a weird one! I'm so happy he finally hit 500. I just wish he had never been traded from my Hawks.

I just wnat to say Congrats to the new NHL Hall of Famers!

Scott Stevens
Mark Messier
Ron Francis
Al MacInnis

I'm glad I got to see them play. I remember being scared whenever MacInnis would get the puck at the point. The would be a goal for sure against my Kings. Maybe not as terrifying as an Al Iafrate shot, but close enough! ;)

I also want to say Chris Pronger is a punk! I can't believe he dished punches on Handzus like that at the end of OT! And he's not even getting a suspended for it even though he received an instigator and a gamer and the rules state that it's an automatic 1-game suspension if you get an instigator penalty during the last 5 minutes of regulation and into OT. Well, Colin Campbell decided to rescind the suspension.

Well, their make it automatic or not, douchebags!

They just suspended Boynton of Phoenix for that very same thing. Why would they not suspend douchebag Pronger??

I've been trying to find a video clip of the incident, but can't find anything.

Because it wasn't premeditated or orchestrated by the coach.

I can't find video either, but will track it down. Basically, Handzus wristed a puck towards Giguere right after the buzzer. I understand why Pronger would go after him for that, BUT Handzus was not trying to fight back and Pronger kept landing uppercuts to his face WITH HIS GLOVES ON! He is such a punk!

I can't find video of it either.

Here's a nice article on it - http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2007/11/14/the-ice-sheet-chris-pronger-jumps-handzus/

The Anaheim Ducks made it official Wednesday as the team announced that Scott Niedermayer would return for the remainder of the season. The announcement, made prior to the Ducks game against the Buffalo Sabres, ended weeks of speculation surrounding the four-time Stanley Cup champion's pseudo-retirement.

From TSN:
The National Hockey League came down hard again on New York Islanders forward Chris Simon on Wednesday, handing him a 30-game suspension for stepping on Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu last weekend.
Full story here (http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=225518&hubname=)

I don't think guys like Chris Simon should be playing in the NHL.

Chris Simon has serious issues to say the least. How many suspensions does he get before they toss him fro the league permanently?

Never realized that there was a hockey thread here. I know I am way late on this, but I am going to join.

I am a huge Blues fan. My dad and I had season tickets for a while but then I went away to school. Of course, there is not much to watch in regards to hockey by Kansas City, MO so I was out of the loop for 4 years. I got my DH to become a hockey fan too.

I think there might be an NHL team in Kansas City soon. I know they are pushing for one - it could be the Predators.

Here are the reasons why Roberto Luongo is skipping the All Star Game to spend time with his pregnant wife that's due in April.

I didn't know there was a hockey thread here either. I hope I'm not the only Pittsburgh Pens fan here.
DH and I split season tickets with some friends this year. I really wish the Pens would stay healthy so they'd have a shot at the playoffs. Between Fluery, Crosby and Roberts (not to mention the others that have been hurt and are finally making it back to the line up) being out they've really had to rely on some young guys to step up.

Is anybody else annoyed that Scott Niedermayer will be in the all-star game this year? He is a fantastic defenseman and a future HOFer, but he only played 15 games prior to being selected to the ASG. He didn't deserve it.

Yeah, they are sending Corey Perry too, I think to replace Zetterberg.

I don't know who Nieds is replacing. IMO, They should have selected Rafalski (or Cheli ;) ) as a replacement instead of Nieds.

So we get to enjoy Getzlaf, Pronger, Perry and Scott Niedermayer at ASG. FUN.

That's so ridiculous. Perry to replace Zetterberg? I didn't even know Zetterberg wasn't going. I guess I have some reading to do.

I did read an article on Cheli. He will be 46 tomorrow and he's going to be in Malibu or where ever doing his summer workout and swim in the ocean. He's a freak of nature. Total workaholic...

Can I join the club? He hasn't played a full season and JUST recently came back but he is chosen to play? Totally doesn't deserve it.

Oh and with the ASG, it was ok, but VS really needs to do better on the camera work. The obstacle course might have been exciting but I didn't see a damn thing.

Tell me about it! I hated the format for the fastest skater competition as well...and they couldn't even get all the players times displayed.

The free style segment was alright, but could have been better.
