View Full Version : Birth Control Question
Mods I know you'll want to move this, but given the time of day for me I need an answer and this is where most people are. Sorry.
I usually take my BC pill in the evening and I am wondering what to do since I am supposed to start my new pack tonight. I don't have much experience with BC as I have only taken it a few months.
I realized my Doctor check up was tomorrow and I planned on getting new BC from her because the last month my skin has been completely even though the first few months were fine to the point I am embarassed when I leave the house.
My question is should I take my pill tonight and then get my new prescription (which I know she'll give) tomorrow and start on day two with that or should wait and just take two as if I had forgotten?

I think either would be fine, but I would not rely on your BC for the next few days if you go w/ the second option. And w/ the first, I would consider the fact your doc might suggest you wait until next month to start the new prescription if you do start the pack you have today, depending on how different the new prescription is.
For me I would probably just not take my pill, but I was notorious for forgetting when I was taking BCP anyway, which is why I stopped taking them. :p
Thanks Laura!

I would take the pill tonight as if you were going to take it all month and then ask the doctor what she wants you to do. It may be that she tells you to just toss the first pill of the new pack and start on the second.
I'd say use backup methods for contraception, but if it is a new pack, you probably just had your period, right? If so, you probably wouldn't have much of a risk of ovulation for at least a week. Of course, I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on tv...
I'm another one that pretty regularly forgets to take her pill in a timely manner  but I say skip it tonight, see what she says tomorrow. You can always double up as if you "missed" a day. Just remember like others have said, use back up protection.
And a quick update on the New Posts function, we've removed journals and the mommy groups since they can easily be subscribed to - so folks can now get easy access to the entire board without journals slowing you down ;)

Actually, it can take months for your body to get used to any new form of hormonal contraceptive. This is probably why you broke out in the beginning but are OK now. If you switch now you risk breaking out again.

Actually I was fine the first two or three months. It was the last month that I broke out. It wouldn't be so bad if I could control with proactiv/masks but nothing is helping one bit.
I took it last night which is good since I was wrong. She (who pretty much prescribes everything & anything) asked me to try a prescribed topical cream for the acne since I am dealing with depression and she said yasmin is good for depression. She said if it didn't work then she'll Ortho, or one other that is good for skin.

I know you didn't ask for this, so if it doesn't apply feel free to ignore, but you might want to consider an IUD that doesn't have hormones in it if your new bc doesn't work out for you.
