I'm interested in hearing from people who had m/s bad enough that they were getting sick a couple of times a day. Also, if you were put on Zofran or some other medication, how did you know when you were well enough to stop taking it? I'm still nauseaus 24/7 and getting sick every couple of days even with the Zofran so it will certainly be obvious when I start to feel better but do I wait until I'm 100% or what?

TIA for any insight you can shed!

With my first pregnancy I was sick the whole 9 months 24 hours a day. I could not hold any food down and had a really horrible pregnancy and delivery. My second pregnancy I only had morning sickness for 4 months.

Oooh, I forgot to account for multiple pregnancies. I guess if you've had bad m/s more than once answer for the one that lasted longest in the poll and then add a comment about the two pregnancies.

Thanks!

I stopped taking Zofran everyday around 17 weeks. I still got sick once/twice a week - but nothing like week 5-17.

Mine didn't go away until I was between 16 and 20 weeks pregnant. I was on two meds (Reglan and two OTCs) to help control my morning sickness. I was sick 24/7 and couldn't keep anything down including water. For the most part it started going away when I reached 20 weeks. I slowly tappered off my meds until I was off of them totally. But when I would have the feeling hit me I'd take one.

While I was in labor I was extremely sick for the better part of 3 hours. There wasn't anything left in my stomach by the time I was done throwing up.

I stopped taking Zofran at 26 weeks, but still felt nauseaus til 30-some. Then again, I had a sinus infection in the third trimester too so maybe I just don't remember feeling nauseaus the rest of the pg because of that. For me, I stopped taking it because I was tired of a) paying so much for it and b) being reliant on drugs to get through the day. I dealt with feeling sick for a few weeks after I went off it.

My morning sickness started at week 8 and didn't go away until around week 18. And "morning" sickness was a huge misnomer, it was more like all day sickness. I was put on Zofran and would then only get sick twice a day as opposed to seven. Even after the m/s itself went away, I still had periods of nausousness throughout the pregnancy.

It was 18 weeks for me - I went from puking every day and being highly dependent on the Zofran to just fine in a week's time. It was nuts!

As far as weaning off the Zofran, I had made myself a rule that I'd take it only after puking twice in a row. (Even the $25 copay was rather expensive for us at the time, so I was trying to ration it.) After 18 weeks, I did have some days when I threw up, but it was only once, so I never used thwe Zofran after that point.

Thanks, everyone, for your input! Looks like I'm in it for the long haul. Anyone else?

I had it really bad till about 14 weeks then it went down to normal for the most part till about 18 weeks. I got to the point that I couldn't ride in the car and the neighbors food and fireplaces made me feel awful. I couldn't even go to the store. But other than every once in a while I have felt great since then.

The extreme morning sickness went away around 14 weeks. I was still pukey/nauseated until about 16 weeks. I really wish I would have gotten the Zofran around 7 weeks -- I didn't get it until 10 weeks and took 1/2 a pill on an as needed basis (maybe every other day?). I think I went through about 10 total pills.

Sorry you're dealing with this!!
For me the extreme m/s went away at about 16 weeks - on a day you don't have anything going on try not to take the Zofran. If you're just nauseous see if you can do without. I had a couple of mornings of feeling nauseous after I stopped it but no more throwing up, then within a week I was so much better - I felt great throughout the rest of the pregnancy.

Anyone else? I'm dealing with this right now and would like to see some more votes!

I just voted. Tomorrow's 20w for me, and I'm still puking multiple times a day. This morning it was on my coat :( I had about 1 week from 17w to 18 w that I felt pretty good, it just so happened to be the week i was sick with a cold and couldn't enjoy *not* puking. Now I'd say it's even worse than it was before in early pregnancy, althought it's not every day now. Maybe every other day? But when it's a bad day, it's a baaaad day.

I'm so sorry that it has comeback. My OB asked me at each visit (since DH had called so many times in between visits because I was so sick) how I was feeling. I told him straight how I felt that day and the days in between visits. If things were bad enough then he would change my meds or adjust them. Tell me try them out for a few days, see how I felt, and call back to the office and let them know. So I wouldn't hestitate to call your OB's office and speak with the nurse. Tell her how you are feeling. I'm quite sure that they would give you something else or at least suggest something to try. I hope you start feeling better soon.

I didn't get to enjoy the holidays last year at all. And that included the Christmas parties. So I'm looking forward to them this year.
