This might not be the right place to ask, but here it goes anyway.

We live in a house built in the 1960's. I'd like to get my hands on a set of blueprints for our house, but have no idea where they would be kept on file...if anywhere (such as the City?).

If that isn't a option, would I need to hire an architect to draw us a set of plans, or is there a computer program I can use? I don't mind taking the measurements around the house. FWIW, when we bought our house we got a survey for the outside so we know the dimensions for the yard, property line, and exterior of the house. I'd like to get the same for the interior that way we can start planning our remodeling projects (knocking out walls, etc).

TIA!

I had a similar question a while back and found a couple of programs that might work for you. Im going to see if I can find that thread - or will post when I get home. How exact do you want/need to be? Do you need wall widths and such? and I would imagine you would need to know where electrical and plumbing runs through?? - but I'm sorry I cant help you with that.

Found the thread -

Hey Kim! I wanted the same thing for our house when we bought it a few years ago... thought it would be a pretty easy request since I know the builder was *cough* RG Moore and it was built in 1987 - not too long ago. We were told that we absolutely could not get a set of the plans!! There was a girl who worked at my old GC's office who said that she would come in and do the plans for us, but she moved out of town and stopped returning anyone's phone calls. She did everything in CAD and I was amazed at how great the stuff she did for our office came out. Maybe you could get someone at ODU to do it for you (much cheaper than an architect's office, I'm sure).
