I am looking to go to the Caribbean or maybe the Bahamas, but am not sure where to start looking. We want to go in September / October for our 5-yr anniversary and will be going without our son. We both need to get away and I am thinking a 5 day 4 night all inclusive resort would be best for us. We can't afford anything to expensive, probably want to stay under $2,000 for everything. We live on the east coast so the flight shouldn't be to bad.

Can you please recommend a resort that you went to or an island? We are looking for a resort that has a beach to relax on, but also other things to do. DH is a history buff and really enjoys looking around cities or towns. Me, I like nature and water, so we want to try and encompass the best of both worlds. We would also like to go somewhere where it's mostly adults.

The only place we have gone in the past is Punta Cana for my brothers wedding and it was a ton of fun, but there was little to do off the resort.

Thanks so much for starting me off in the right direction :).

Hi there -

DH and I really enjoyed our honeymoon in Jamaica. We went to Sandals Negril. Sandals are pricey resorts so you won't be able to go for under $2K. But there are other AI resorts on the island. Montego Bay is the cheapest area with AI in Jamaica (so I've been told).

We have also been to Aventura Spa Palace in the Mayan Riviera. We are either going to Cancun or Costa Rica in Sept. I know you can find an AI in Costa for about $1K ... http://www.occidental-hoteles.com/ (look at the Allegro resort). Same in Cancun. Try Breezes resorts.

I think you might be hard pressed to find an AI where you can stay for 5 days for under $1,500. Flights to the islands are usually at least $300 - $400 per person from Atlanta. Good luck!

I haven't been - but my parents vacation frequently on Green Turtle Key in the Bahamas. Low key island with great water activities - the resort they stay at offers meal plans and they and their friends often return because of just how reasonable it is. Might be worth checking out.
