So... today has been a trying day! With Nic, I had the easiest pg in the world...his brother - not so lucky! It hurt to even move today, and all I wanted to do was clean the floors in the family room and kitchen -- usually not HUGE goals. I BARELY was able to get the family room floor vacuumed ALL morning and forget about touching the kitchen... After Nic's THIRTY MINUTE nap, we were eating apples and I refilled our waters, mine first (ok, my mistake there) then his. I turn from the sink after filling his... and I see him throw his apple and hit my water ...my water falls over and spills ALL.OVER.the laptop. Needless to say, its trash... I saw white smoke come out ... I lost it. Called DH home from work, crying.... had a total meltdown. He came home (such a sweetheart) and took Nic so I could take a much needed bath... heaven!

I've been gone due to being very ill last week. Seems I got a nasty strain of the flu that is going around. Needless to say I landed myself in the ER a week ago because I couldn't take anymore of it. I began to think I gotten mysteriously pregnant due to how sick I was (I'm not usually that sick unless I'm pregnant. But I knew that could not have been cause.
Sarah threw up on Saturday morning an hour after DH left for work. So lucky me got to clean up vomitt (sour milk) from my recliner. So not what I wanted to do a alittle after 7 am that day. No more milk the rest of the day. She didn't have a fever and was her usual self. Sunday she didn't really have much milk and no vomitting. Monday morning I gave her milk again and she kept it down. After lunch she had some more and back up it came (in DH's chair this time). So I got to clean that up. Have I said how much vomitt makes me want to toss my own cookies?? Called the ped and asked them. They said not to give her any more milk for a couple of days and see how things went. She eats fine and doesn't throw any of it back up. Just the milk. She's been milk free since Monday (mainly because I haven't been brave enough to try it again). I think we're going to try it again tonight and see what results we have (I'll let DH clean it up this time).
Alex is also spitting up/vomitting as well. Though it is nothing new with him. He's been doing it pretty much since day one. We shall see what the ped says when he goes for his two month appt. He's still not gaining much weight. Maybe 8 to 8 1/2 lbs, still wearing preemie clothes (no where near ready to wear 0-3 months), and still in preemie/newborn size diapers (I don't think we'll be going to size 1 until he's 6 months at this rate). I can't believe that at 8 wks (tomorrow) he's still in preemie size. He has absolutely no meat on his bones. He's skin and bones. I feel sorry for him when he gets his shots because there's no meat. :(
Happy ~ I'm so sorry. I was absolutely miserable at the end with Alex. It was a struggle to get out of bed the last two wks. I felt pretty good until I hit 35 wks and then I went downhill. Each day was worse than the day before. I never wished for Sarah to be born early but I did for him. I just wanted to be out of my misery but I also wanted him to be okay as well. My old laptop had a black screen when I turn it on. BIL looked at it at Christmas and said there was nothing to be done for it. We had him look at DH's laptop and he said that something had gotten spilled on it. It was news to us. We bought a new laptop and I won't let DD near it. She loved to "type" on the old ones (and ripped off more than one key...they were fun to put back on...I got pretty good at after the first couple) but the new one is strickly off limits to her. I don't have drinks near any computer since our kitty knocked over a glass on the desk a few years back and fried my ergo keyboard. Now it's only bottles with lids.
Well, DD is getting into trouble and I need to feed DS. Try to catch up later.

Rancher - Gorgeous announcement and two gorgeous little boys!
usafwife - I'm sorry you have been through so much lately. Do you think A could be suffering from reflux? Is it projectile vomitting/spitting up? Poor weight gain and projectile vomitting are classic reflux signs. Maybe something to discuss with your ped. I hope things get better for you quickly.
Happy - You were absolutely due for a nice, long bath!

usafwife, happy and disney- Oh goodness- so sorry about the rough time you're all having!
rancherswife- Beautiful announcement!
We had quite a bit of drama around here today. I went downstairs to put the laundry in the dryer and James locked the basement door :eek: :eek: . Of course the back and front doors were locked as well. I spent about 30 minutes trying to coach him into unlocking the door, then ran to the back door (in my pajamas and barefoot in the snow) so I could at least see him. Thank goodness my neighbors were outside; one let me borrow her phone and the other lent me his wife's coat, gloves and boots. I finally reached my in-laws, who have keys, and they rescued us. WHEW!

Well, today was SUCH a better day! My mom and sister both took off work - Mom stayed with Nic while ds and I went to a kids consignment sale. Got a sweet deal on a double stroller and then went to lunch where we totally indulged in fried, fattening foods and lots of good gab! So needed!

You needed a good day out of shopping and eating....sometimes, that's just what a girl needs, esp. when you're 9 mos. preggo!!! ;) Score on the double stroller too. We have yet to use ours, as I've kept Landon in his peg and Reece in the bjorn so far (on our ONE and only outing we've done so far! ;))
jrdh: OMG!!! That is so scary!!! I'm glad your neighbors were so nice, I would've been freaking out girl, and knowing my crazy kid, he'd have been cracking up as I was trying to guide him to open the door...he's a mess! :)
Oh....I'm sooooooooo tired right now, I've been going along all day just fine and all of a sudden it just hit me, I'm beat today! My mom called and said she and my dad would bring out dinner tonight...fabulous since I had NO plans of cooking! ;) So, we're now waiting on their arrival.

jrdhbunny: Aidan is quite OCD about any door that is open being closed so I've learned to take my keys with me EVERYWHERE I go. She's already locked my set of keys into our storage shed. I had to go in and get Ryan's keys, thanking God that he didn't accidentally take them to Iraq with him. I caught her closing the front door (that also automatically locks behind me) and stuck my foot in it before it closed all the way (didn't have my keys on me at the time). Oy. These nutty kids. Doors are no match for her now. I can't just close her door and let her CIO...she opens her door and follows me out.

Dealing with Hunger Strikes - I remembered something else that we do sometimes to get Avery to eat. It's kind-of bizarre, but it really does work for us. First, you will need to be able to closely supervise meal time...next, get a toothpick and impale a piece of food on it and offer that to DC. It's crazy, but it almost always works to get Avery to eat at least a little bit even if she refused a few minutes before. For example, yesterday she said that she wanted a grilled cheese sandwich when I asked yet once I had it made she wouldn't touch it. Stuck a piece on a toothpick and she ate the whole 1/2 sandwich :). We discovered this little trick when Avery once downed a whole corndog (eww, I know) which is double/triple what she normally eats in any one meal. Oh, and we've used chopsticks for the same thing with great success too!

diedra1027 That is so funny. My mom does the same thing with colored toothpicks with DS when we visit her. He thinks it is a big game.
I went to Kindermusik with DS today and it was so cute. Usually DH goes but I let him go run errands for the morning. DS totally loves it and ended up laughing so hard the other parents were laughing at him. Total recommend it for those looking to do something with their little ones.

This is my worst fear! So glad the ILs could help.
On a side note, I always cringe when i see people let their kids have their keys, because I *never* let him play with ours. Its one of my big neurosis. When my friend was renting a car on a VERY hot summer day her son was fussing for the keys. She let him hold them and he locked himself in the car during the 1 second it took to close his door and before she could lift the handle to open the front door! It was so hot, she freaked out, it took about 15 minutes to get someone to the car to open the doors - even right there on the lot. Scary....

Hee hee...I sometimes play with the "novelty" of the food to get him to eat it. Love the toothpick idea! Maybe I could order some with some sort of fun thing on the end that he'd get a kick out of, you know like they do at parties sometimes?

That consignment sale you went to sounds like it was amazing! I'd love to hit something like that up once we have a house so we can buy an inexpensive double travel stroller. I could def drive down to you - is it a seasonal thing??
I have 2 questions for you ladies today!
1) Anyone else's kid waking up in the middle of the night, crying for 5 minutes then going back?
Thomas has been doing this somewhere between 12-2am almost every night this week. I am hoping its a DST-adjustment thing. We finally got him to bed at normal time last night and he STTN perfectly as he used to. I am hoping it was just because his internal clock was a bit messed up.
Being that my bladder is the size of an acorn, my hips hurt, I have RLS and have phasic insomnia due to the fact i am due IN ONE MONTH I do not need one more thing waking me up in the middle of the night. i'm cranky enough, lol. ;)
2. Anyone have an inverted nipple when BFing? Any tips on how to make it work?
A close friend (like a quasi-cousin) just had her son and has been on the phone with me to help her through her BF issues. Latch & everything is perfect on one side, but the other has an inverted nipple and she's dying. I suggested the Medela Nipple Shield for BFing, Lansinoh for the pain, Soothies for the pain, and I know Medela has some sort of shell to wear in between to hold your bra away from the nip for pain relief. Anything else you can share?
She hasn't been able to reach her LC to come over yet.

Wow, I'm behind! Ok, here's my attempt to get caught up.
Ranchers: Oh your boys are just adorable! Reece looks so much like Landon -- cuties for sure :) Thanks for sharing.
JRDH: Oh goodness! I would have been freaking out. I'm so glad that you were able to get some help (and a coat!) quickly. Sneaky little bugger.... Hence the reason we have a secret hiding spot for a spare key outside.
Happy: You just reminded me that I need to get my butt in gear and get my load of items for consignment together ASAP! May work on that this afternoon....
Kim: One month!!!!!!!! Holy crappa! No real advice on either topic for you, but I'd bed that his night wakings are just readjusting to DST plus getting back in the swing after your trip. He may be having some dreams too. I hope he calms down soon -- or at least keeps it to himself :) Hope you are feeling well!
We had an interesting dinner last night. We invited our best friends in the 'hood and their DD (3mo younger than DS) for mexican night! Everything is going great until their DD starts whining and freaking out when DH pours himself a soda. They proceed to tell us that she loves soda and that she can have a cup since she wants it -- but just one b/c she already had some with lunch. DH said it took everything he had not to say "huh? Are you sure?" but didn't say anything. Then I put dinner for the tots on the table (cheese queasadillas, mixed veggies, banana) and the parents tell me that she has never had banana, other than baby food, and that she probably won't eat the veggies b/c they never make a veggie for her. Wow. Wonder how long it will be before we all dine together again? :rolleyes:

And yes, Landon has been waking in the middle of the night, screaming, crying, etc. for about the last month and a half, it started about three weeks before I had Reece and he's been doing it about every other night, not sure what it's attributed to, but it's not fun. I'll just get him back to sleep and Reece will be waking up for his 2 a.m. feeding. Needless to say, I'm tired these days! ;) I cannot believe you only have a month...it's going to fly by! I had to explain to FIL last time he was in the NO kid should be drinking soda - Thomas wanted some of DH's because it had a straw in it (he's obsessed with straws) and FIL was about to give it to him when we were like "STOP RIGHT THERE!". Even DH (an avid soda drinker) was looking at his dad like he was nuts for not knowing this, LOL.

soda: Good God, my kid has enough energy and spunk without the caf., he's never had soda...and I don't plan on him getting any for as long as I can control it. Dh is a soda addict. Hmmm... I try never to notice what other people feed their kids, cause I know I'm an odd ball out (I'm 99% sure Nic has never had any form of white sugar/high fructose corn syrup - and if he has, it wasn't on purpose) ... BUT, NO bananas? Nic wouldn't survive if you took his bananas away (those are his favorite, and he'll eat them when he will eat nothing else)... Don't even get me started on the evils of soda, gum, and artificial sweetners... (Please don't feel judged by that, I'm really not judgemental, just super picky and slightly neurotic and hoping that it doesn't scar my kids for life) It gets fun in our house sometimes though, cause DH is my total opposite... and can't understand why I'm against Nic having any of that stuff...
Nic has sporadically been waking up inconsolable at night... It happened last Sat, and happened last night as well. I have no advice...still haven't figured out whats triggering it, or how to stop it... if anyone else figures it out... PLEASE share! We're kind of freaking out about bringing a non-sleeping newborn into the house with a kid who wont sleep either...

I find when we're home and we just watch him on the monitor, he'll calm himself down and go back to sleep within 5 minutes.
But GOD FORBID if you go in there to try to calm him down, he will completely flip out and become inconsolable. then you end up doing the wrestling-match-night of trying to get him to sleep next to you in bed...which he does not do.

Don't get me started.....
Although James hasn't done this recently, he did go through a spell a few months back where he'd wake up and cry for 10-15 minutes almost every night. I'd just let him CIO and it would be done and over with.
HOWEVER, too often Jon would get frustrated and say to me in a normal speaking voice, "Can't you DO something?" *&%%^@ Since James could hear him, that inevitably turned the 10-15 minute crying spell into 60+ minutes of an inconsolable toddler. I don't know who is more difficult at night....my son or my husband!

Ugh with the night waking. Aidan burst into tears about an hour ago so I paused my movie (Poseidon...pretty dorky) and then went to see about her only to find that she'd locked herself into her room. I called my parents, moderately frantically, to find out how to get my screaming kid out of her room. Luckily they were home and told me how to get her out and luckily I found Ryan's toolbox and a set of allen wrenches that did the trick. Of course she wouldn't go back to bed in her own room so now she's in my room in my bed. And, she's a horrible bed partner with the kicking and rolling and so on. Tomorrow ought to be fun on no sleep. :)

night waking: Not that it makes it any better when the child is screamin his ever loving head off for 20 mins. in the middle of the night, HOWEVER it does make me feel sooooo much better that we're not the only ones dealing with this issue. I've been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out WTH is going on with him. It comes out of nowhere and sometimes continues on for an hour, and kim, your description of "wrestling match" is right on, girl! That's what we have when he wakes up like this since...yeah, he's still in our bed from his bouts with pneumonia in Jan. and early Feb....we're such suckers...now my excuse is, he'll feel totally booted out if we put him back in his crib now, since Reece is next to our bed in his co-sleeper! Night wakings - Almost a nightly occurence in our house. I think it's like a bad dream, because 99% of the time, she's kind of whimpering in her sleep. Goes on for maybe 5-10 mins max, then she's asleep again. We (ha, I mean I...DH never hears her :rolleyes: ) usually just let her go, unless it becomes full-fledged crying and standing in the crib.
Tgray and jrdh - You girls both handled your respective situations so well! I'd be freaking out!
Soda - We know some people who have a DD about 7 months older than Sarah and were at a party with them when we saw them give their then 18 month old diet Coke out of a bottle! Total side note, but DH drinks Coke all the time and whenever Sarah sees a Coke bottle, she calls it "daddy's juice", LOL.
We took Sarah to a big county fair this weekend and traumatized her by having her and DH go on a dumbo-type ride.....she started screaming on it and tried to clumb out while it was in the air, DH had to practically pin her down to keep her on it. Needless to say, no amusement parks for us for a little while still. I was kind of surprised because she is usually so fearless, but I guess we found her kryptonite, LOL.

soda, etc.: I guess I'm one of the odd ladies here. DS gets a sip or two of sprite sometimes, gets 4 oz of 100% juice everyday and enjoys potato and tortilla chips. Heck, this weekend he really enjoyed chomping down on a chocolate chip cookie. Now, his favorite food items are peaches, strawberries, cheese and yogurt, and he only gets a few sips of soda or chips at most once a week or every other week. I believe that different foods, in moderation, are OK, and that he's going to be curious to try what Mom and Dad are eating and drinking. (No, I don't share my coffee or alcoholic beverage with him.) I think it's great that some of you want to keep your kids away from 'unhealthy' foods and have kept that up, but I think there some middle-of-the-road parents who allow their kids a sip of soda or a potato chip or two that are still teaching their kids good eating habits.
jdrhbunny: oh gosh, that's a nightmare! Brody locked the front screen door on me last month when I had to get something from the car. After trying to talk him into unlocking it didn't work, I was relieved that I could just push the upper screen down and unlock it myself. Now that lock is taped so he can't turn it. I've also taped the lock on the basement door.
night waking: Brody still gets up once or twice 2-3 nights a week. Most of the time, we just talk to him or pat him and he goes right back down. Rarely, it's like he's wide awake and ready to go. Then it takes 5-10 minutes to get him settled, and once or twice I have actually fallen asleep in his bed (he's in a full-sized regular bed) next to him.

Migraine city here today. Do you think DH offered to take DS to school for me today so that I could get a few more minutes rest? Uh, no. He couldn’t even manage to wash his face!
Food: I think I was more surprised by the amount of soda they let her have than the fact that they let her have it at all. She had an entire “take n toss” straw cup full at our house on top of what she had for lunch. That plus the fact the kid has never had a banana just caught me off guard. DS has had, and likes, tortilla chips, popcorn, etc. Just, like Irish said, in moderation.
Just found out within the past week that two of our couple friends (including the couple from dinner on Saturday) are expecting #2. Very exciting!! I hope that I get to throw a "sprinkle" for at least one couple.

soda - I actually don't see anyting wrong with them having soda as long as it's decaf. and has no artificial sweeteners. This doesn't mean that DD has ever had any soda (she hasn't), but if she were to have an upset stomach, sprite/ginger ale would absolutely be something I would offer her to relieve the aches. I guess I'm one of those odd-balls :p! Now, my FIL is notorious for sneaking every type of junk food to his grandkids, and I'm pretty sure that he's shared his diet coke with DD before. Unfortunately, until I catch him in the act, I can't say anything. :rolleyes:
night waking - This happens with Maia once in a while. If she doesn't fall back asleep on her own, then I usually get her and bring her in our bed for 10-15 minutes so she'll calm down and relax, then I tell her that it's time to go back to night-night, and we (HA, yeah, just me really) put her back down usually without any problem.

psusna: gotcha, and I totally agree with you on a whole cup of soda. I have to say, I'm so happy that DS loves his milk and water. My parents had a hard time getting me to drink either!
It's going to be interesting as we try to get DS to eat more and more of what we do. DH had a very restrictive, unadventurous childhood when it came to food, and I'd love to get DS to enjoy different ethnic foods, etc.

Soda Mary Kate has also had sips of my soda (she doesn't like coke, but will drink diet coke) but I never have given her own cup full. Actually in the last 2 months I stopped buying juice altogether. not because I think its bad...but DD will happily drink water so I just stopped offering juice. She does eat chips/snacks but she is also still a really good at eating healthy foods, so I am a-ok with it. I am also about moderation. I feel like if I make something a never food it might become a issue later down the road.

Soda - The other day Jon and I were chatting, and looked over at James to see that he had gotten Jon's cup of diet coke from lunch....he was sucking at the straw like he'd been doing it his whole life! Other than that, he's had a taste once or twice. Not that I'm against it (I know I drink enough), but I'd like to hold off that bad habit as long as possible!
Junk Food - James will get some every now and then...particularly if Jon or I are eating some. Yesterday we had some Doritos and Nutter Butters in the car, and shared them with James. THIS MORNING, James sees the leftover Doritos and Nutter Butters and starts to demand "chip" and "kee-kee" for breakfast. When I told him "No", he pushed at my leg and said "Go Away." I was rolling with laughter! He settled on a couple of animal crackers.

junk food Yikes, I am so quilty of giving my kids junk food. I almost feel bad now after readin that many of you don;t offer"junk food". I take my kids to mcdonals, give them chips, salsa, a donut now and again, some oreos. Oh, well. I am not too worried about it. My kids are not over weight nor do they lack in the good food department.

soda Not really an issue since we really don't drink soda. I used to be addicted to the stuff. I quit drinking and lost a ton of weight. We do drink coffee and wine in front of DS and he's really into labeling it. One time he really wanted to drink our beer so we swipped a finger and let him taste. My dad used to that so I do it mostly out of nostalgia. The face is priceless.
I am in the camp of moderation but we try to practice what we preach and just eat healthy. My mom used to give my sister and I with ice cream, ho-hos, ding-dongs and the like because we were super skinny as kids. Ha that did not last and set me up with some bad eating habits. I do allow not-so healthy food on occasion as a special treat. Last weekend was so sunny and warm and fund that we went and got burgers and shakes for us all. DS ended up eating a whole cheesburger and it made a nice family memory for me.
ETA I forgot to add that after months of making and offering vegetables with meals, DS is actually finally eating them without subterfuge! Still hit or miss but progress.
night waking: We get it on occasion but I thought it was a lot more when actively teething.

Night Waking~Almost exactly what Kim described. DD will wake up & cry for a few minutes and then sooth herself back to sleep. If she acts really upset, we usually go in and cover her back up with her blanket maybe rubbing her back.
Locks~Fortunately DD has not figured out how to unlock our screen doors, but the deadbolt on the main door is a different story. We have a piece of furniture next to the front door, and she will climb up on it and unlock the deadbolt. She has figure out how to open the screen doors and go outside, so we really have to be diligent about keeping those doors locked!
Junk Food~My ILs are very much like Aunt Liv's FIL. :rolleyes: DD spends Thursday afternoons with GMIL & GFIL, and I know she is getting junk food then. It's always a battle those days if we go to lunch with MIL because she wants to give her pudding or soda (Grrr! :mad: I am a major stickler (sp?) on soda, even when curing an upset tummy.). She doesn't get what the big deal is and gets irritated when I try to explain that one of those things every once in a while is okay, but I can't just let her have the pudding or soda from MIL when I know she's going to be sugared up (despite my in-moderation protests) at GMILs house. :rolleyes: That being said, we do give her the occasional cookie or chocolate pudding cup, but like others have said moderation is the key! We have also taken her to McDonalds, Sonic, Burger King, etc., but we always try to get her the healthier options such as a fruit cup on the side and milk to drink.

My Abbey is so sweet. My friends from HS and college came in town this weekend and Abbey was a sweetie about sharing her toys and books with the "bebe." (Who is only a few months younger than she is, but whatever. ;)) The only thing she refused to share was her PBK chair, LOL. She kept shoving the baby and yelling "bebe, move!"
Food- Ditto what everyone has said about moderation. When we eat at a Mexican place, Abbey loves eating tortilla chips (and salsa!). However, I don't offer them at home. I have also given her McD's on rare occasions and there has been a meal or two without fruit or veggie if we're eating out. :o However, I do my best to make sure that she gets her 5+ servings a day and eats a healthy and balanced diet. This is how I was raised and I turned out ok. ;)

Oh, I'm totally in the "everything in moderation" camp. With the example I gave, I really couldn't believe that the parents gave the kid an entire bottle filled with diet coke....twice, for that matter. That seemed like a lot of caffeine for an 18 month old, in a bottle to boot. But I am completely guilty of things like taking Sarah to McDonald's once or twice, letting have some of a milkshake, and now DH gave her some Frito's the other day and she keeps asking for "chips". :rolleyes: We went out to dinner on Sat. night and she probably ate more of the roll and ranch dip than she did of her chicken fingers, plus didn't eat a veggie. Like Alicia said, as long as I try to get her to eat a balanced diet, I'm not going to sweat treats here and there.

We're battling a stomach bug here. :( Poor DS- yesterday he had a 104.4 fever. He's doing much better today, but I'm nervous about what tonight will bring, since he's been throwing up after 7:45 pm for the last two days. My main issue has been getting liquids in him; he refuses Pedialyte and Gatorade (watered down), but luckily he's drinking some water.
Soda/Junk food- Since DS still only eats a handful of foods and refuses to try anything new, we don't really have an issue with junk foods (well, except for cookies and chocolate :rolleyes: - he's got my sweet tooth). But soda- he loves it. DH is much more lenient than I am; he'll let him take several sips from his fast food cup or from his Birchola. Then again, I only drink Diet and I won't let him have any of that. He also likes to "eat" the foam from my Starbucks Chai Lattes. But I agree that an entire cup or bottle of it just seems like too much.
Night wakings- DS wakes in the middle of the night every few days. We don't go in there- he settles down very quickly (usually under 1 minute). Last night was an exception because he was sick- when he woke up I went in there and sang him back to sleep.
Thanks for all the sympathy about the locked door! That night he pointed at the basement door and said "door mom". DH had a good laugh. :rolleyes:

Soda
Nope. We've only just now started to let her have juice at school with her snacks. Even then, it is watered down beyond recognition. It's not too big of an issue as DH and I don't really drink the stuff. She's perfectly happy with milk and water (though she calls her water "juice").
Junk Food
Guilty! We generally go to Wendy's once every week or two. I'll get her a cheeseburger, but will substitute oranges instead of fries. I'll usually give her a few of mine if I'm eating them though. Her snacks tend to be pretty "junkie" though: Pirate's Booty, Animal Crackers, Graham Crackers, EB Cookies. Not too terribly bad, but not great either.
Night Wakings
For some reason, DD woke up so much last night. It was like every hour. Fortunately, she'd wimper for a few seconds and roll right back over. I can usually tell by her cry if it's going to be a matter of letting her CIO or if I need to go in there and get her. One cry is definitely angrier and louder than the other.

Junk food: I'm also a moderate, but DH and I usually eat pretty healthy, so Asher's never even seen soda, let alone tasted it, for example. But he has a cookie every once in a while, and very occasionally french fries, if we're eating them. Candy I don't allow. But ice cream, well ice cream I consider a whole other food group ;), and we have frozen yogurt (less often real ice cream) several times a week and share it with Asher. Yes, it's sugary, but it's also full of calcium, and active cultures, if it's frozen yogurt. And honestly, he doesn't even eat that much of it.

It is, isn't? Well, it is in my world. I swear I am turning into my mom because I have no issue feeding DS ice cream all the time to fatten him up. Now that he's older, he wants to be piggy about it so we only bring it out on really, really special occasions.

Junk Food
I think everyone has different definitions of what falls under this. I'd consider junk food to be really high in fat/cholesterol/sugar stuff and fast food that's almost deliberately lacking in any nutritional value. I'd never consider tortilla chips junky, have no issues with geting him a cheeseburger at a restaurant, but I personally find McDonald's gross and couldn't ever imagine myself bringing T there to eat.
Oh, I'm totally about moderation. I am only really crazy about soda because DH's whole family guzzles it like its a lifeline. One sister drinks about a case a day and it actually caused her some medical issues (and of course extra lbs). I rarely see any of them - including DH - drink a glass of water. And they also have let the nephews drink regular Coke since they were toddlers...then wonder why the kids get all hyped up & can't calm down. Hmmm....
Anyway. DH & I are the original Cookie Monsters. I try to buy cookies/crackers with whole grains/high fiber at least. Thomas is Snackzilla, so we have quite the full pantry! And when we were on vacation, he was so picky he basically only ate pancake, crackers & french fries for a week. REALLY good diet, right? Eh, he'll survive.
And you should have seen the scary chicken nuggets he ate at a zoo in FL...the "chicken" part of the description was quite questionable, lol!
Yo Baby
I CANNOT get him to eat yo Baby anymore! He either wants Activia (which does BTW help him in the poop dept) or Yoplait. And it has to be right from the carton, not from a bowl.

Yo Baby: Asher eats it. He didn't like it when he was younger, but he's been into it lately. But he's not really picky about his yogurt--he'll eat Yo Baby, Stoneyfield fruit yogurt, Liberte grain yogurt, plain Dannon, or raita from an Indian restaurant.

junk food: We are def. in the "moderation camp" for sure. Landon is a huge fan of tortilla "chich" and salsa. Not that I offer it to him for snack, but if we're somewhere where they offer them or we are having company and I have some out...he's all over it. He has had Mc D's a time or two, among other fast food places, not on a daily/weekly basis, but on occassion. His daddy has got to have the biggest sweet tooth around and since being pg w/ Reece, I got one too...didn't have one before, now I can't get rid of it. So, needless to say, Landon's had his share of cookies ("keecoo's", ice cream etc). But on a daily basis, I do try and give him a balanced dieat, we do have our days though....

Yo Baby is one of the only things that we can get DS to eat with any consistency. I felt so bad today because he kept going over to the fridge asking for "gurt" and I had to tell him no (no dairy until he's been sick free for at least two days). :(
Well, DS didn't throw up tonight, but he started whimpering and grabbing at his face. Not sure if it's his teeth or an EI or something else altogether. He's also been grinding his teeth. The doc wants to see him tomorrow- poor little dude- I hope it's nothing serious. My mom, who is usually so calm in these situations, is freaking me out ("well, when your aunt Holly had a 104 degree fever, it was spinal menengitis").

I think everyone's definition of junk food is different too. I'll give Sarah an animal cookie or two for dessert almost daily (probably because she goes to the pantry and screams for one after dinner :o ). But I'm not going to give her potato chips or Mickey D's on a daily basis.
Yobaby - She loooooves them, especially the ones mixed with cereal. She'll really eat just about any yogurt, I can't eat my own yogurt in front of her unless she has one. She calls it "go-gurt".
jrdh - Poor baby, I hope all is ok and he feels better soon.
Rancher - Pirate's Booty is puffs with veggie coating (spinach and kale, I think) instead of cheese. The only place I've ever found them is Whole Foods. They are pretty good!
Ugh, Sarah was pitching a fit this morning and I was all rushed so I forgot to put on my wedding rings! I feel naked on my left hand without them!
ETA - I have no idea what made me think of this but I just realized I had mixed up Pirate and Veggie booty. Liz has the right explanation below....pirate booty is the cheese one. :o

LOL! That was the daycare's reaction when I brought in abag for Caroline. It's puffed rice and corn covered in cheese powder. They also have Veggie Booty which is the same puffed mixture but covered in spinach/kale/cheesey goodness. It's one of C's favorite snacks.
Yo Baby
Still eating it here, too but usually just on the weekends with breakfast. She loves it and gets so happy when she sees me bust out a container.
Tortilla Chips
For Caroline, it is merely a salsa transporting mechanism. I swear, I've never seen a child eat salsa like this kids does. She eventually will throw down the chip and attempt to shovel it directly in to her mouth.

Pirate Booty: I am a fool and every once in a while stupid strikes me and I decide to grocery shop after picking up DS. He is so hungry that going up and down aisles of food is not a brilliant idea. One time, I grabbed a bag of Pirate Booty and opened it for him to snack on while I shopped. By the time we got to the register, he had a nice coating of cheesy dust around him mouth which looks extra weird b/c of his brown skin!
So last night we ate as a family and DS actually ate a piece of fresh broccoli. I nearly keeled over in shock. He refused after that so you can't win them all. Then after we got up from the table, DS climbed my chair and tried to eat my rice with my knife and fork. Super cute but geez, hungry much?

Independence Has anyone else noticed that there DC suddenly wants to be very independent? On Sunday Sarah and I went to the park there were two older girls I think they were 7 and 5 they were going down the big kids slide. Sarah wanted to she got up and could not figure out how to go down excpet on her stomach and feet first. After the girls left she went down the toddler slides. Today when I was dropping her off at DC she decided she did not want to hold my hand that she wanted to walk in front of me! I miss my baby!

Independence ~ Nope, Nic is actually going backwards I think... Not sure if he knows something is going on (i'm VERY close to popping) and wants to hang on, or if he got scared that he was doing too much too soon and is regressing, but... he's GOT to start walking some places for the good of my back! (Not parking lots, I like that he still lets me carry him to the cart...but once on the sidewalk...come ON kid!) He does however INSIST on using a fork HIMSELF to eat, then gets upset cause he can't spear anything and throws it...but he GRABS it out of your hand when you load it for him....
Biting ~ Anyone else biting? It seems to be a new thing... BUT he bites and the LAUGHS ... He bit me yesterday and I arched my back (we were laying on the bed for naptime) and it hurt... I cried out (couldn't help myself) and was almost crying it hurt so bad (my back, not the bite) BUT he was hysterically laughing and couldn't wait to try it again... I try to tell him "no, we don't bite because it hurts people. We're gentle when we touch other people." but it hasn't made a dent. Any advice??? (I just have visions of a newborn with bite marks all over...)
Yogurt ~ yogurt is hit or miss with Nic, but what always works is to buy a big thing of whole fat plain yogurt and then add it to frozen fruit in the blender ...it makes sort of a frozen yogurt consistency and he'll eat that up asap!
Question: Does REAL frozen yogurt have all the same cultures that the stuff you buy as real yogurt does? I don't know why I assumed it didn't ...
And... someone at a random playgroup we went to had this stuff ... I don't remember who/where or even WHAT group they were from, so I can't ask of course... it was snap peas, but they were crunchy like chips or cheese doodles. They weren't fried I don't think ... I have NO CLUE what these could be, but they were REALLY good. And I've been looking for them everywhere...

geez, I had to go back to page 74 to find my last post, I've been reading a long but last week I had Jury Duty (2 days worth) and haven't had much free time.
I apologize that I'm probably missing SOs, but they would be old and outdated...
jrdhbunny and Tgray that's a big fear of mine, DD loves shutting doors, like Tgray I keep keys with me if I have to run outside or something (like to throw something in the recycle bin).
soda it's funny b/c DD won't drink anything but water and milk. I've tried juice and she won't have it. I tried seltzer water and she freaked out. She calls it "bubble juice" which is also what she calls soda when I have it.
"Daddy's Juice" (Sasha, I had to LOL)- that's what she calls daddy's wine and he taught her that for 'beer' too. Now she calls "beer", "beer" it's pretty funny to hear her talk about beer.
I mean, when we drive my Starbucks DD shouts "Coffee! Cookie!", I also LOL at this b/c yesterday I drove by a Starbucks (not one that we go to) and DD yelled "coffee". The past few weeks I've been indulging in an iced coffee from starbucks and I guess she now recognizes the logo.
junk food I try to have the "everything in moderation" attitude but somethings are getting out of hand, like cookies, teddy grahams, animal crackers. DD is a cookie monster. I made a batch of oatmeal raisin and she gets one after dinner. She also likes tortilla chips. I try to keep pirate's booty or veggie sticks around so she won't be tempted by other more junky food. We got a box of lemon frosted Girl Scout cookies and she has had a few "yellow cookie" as she calls it. I need to finish those up myself so she doesn't have any more. She gets ice cream every now and again. I haven't given her any chocolate bars (just a little chocolate ice cream and a small chocolate chip cookie). I'm thinking maybe she will have a small bite at easter. DD is skinny so we do get her the occasional Happy Meal from McDs - it is one of the few "meats" (I use the term loosely) that she will eat, she loves the cheeseburgers.
Funny Story about said Happy Meal I've mentioned before but when we drive by McD she said "Happy Meal, fries, hamburger, ketchup ("kacup") to me. Actually a few weeks ago she saw a fry wrapper in a parking lot with the "M" and started reciting her line (I swear we only go about once or twice a month at most). Anyway yesterday I decided to let her have a Happy Meal. We go through the Drive Thru and take it home. She insists on carrying her own bag to the house from the garage. Well she decided she couldn't wait to eat the fries and she ripped the bag, spilling ALL the fries on the driveway! She was screamming "OH NO FRIES, messy" and I had to scoop her up and get her in the house as she was freaking out. I ended up making her some sweet potato fries since she was so upset about her fries.
ETA:
night wakings she's been waking up too, I think the heat coming on wakes her up. Sometimes we go in there and sometimes she settles herself.
yogurt she's not a big fan these days. I should try it again.
jrdhbunny Ugg, I hope your DS gets better soon, that is no fun.

happyy1: Snap pea crisps! They look like whole pea pods, but crunchy like Cheetos. They sell them at Whole Foods. They are more processed, though, and less healthy than you would think (again, I know, because I ate a whole bag after Asher refused them.) As for live and active cultures in commercial frozen yogurt, yes, Haagen Dazs has it, and I think so does Ben & Jerry's, but I can't find the info on their website.

That is too funny! Oh, the travesy of spilled fries....:p Alexia makes organic, healthier 'fries' you bake. I've had the regular and sweet potato ones. We are all big fans of the brand!
Sweets
I got my delivery of Girl Scout cookies and lo and behold I have ths stupid nausea still and only hit them up about once a week. I guess its good for my figure, but I was looking forward to getting them for so long!
Independance
Thomas is getting better, but he went through this loooong phase of once I put his coat on, he REFUSED to walk from the livingroom, through the gate to the front door and go up the steps to outside. So picture me, 7mo preggo carrying him on my hip in a sling with his winter stuff on, plus a diaper bag and whatever else needed to come with us. :rolleyes:
Finally now he'll usually walk for me, thank God. I couldn't do it anymore!
Tom will get him really mad, because they will be building blocks together and T will put one on top then Tom will move it. T will get SO mad! Once he makes a decision, you have to go with it I guess, lol.
Snap Pea Mystery
Were they in the pod? Were they freeze-dried? Because I've seen allll sorts of freeze-dried fruits & veggies sold in clear containers at Whole Foods and have been tempted to buy some.
Toothpick Trick
Thomas planned on only eating 6 raspberries for lunch today.
Then I whipped out my fancy new sword-shaped toothpicks in bright colors. He literally climbed back into the highchair and ate almost every last bite of chicken, lasagne, veggies & canteloupe. :) Hooray!
Speaking of Veggie Booty...
Anyone try the "Smaart Puffs"? OMG those are crazy addictive.

Pirate's Booty- This was the only thing I could keep down for a while when I had m/s. I can't eat it now. Veggie Booty is another story. Abbey and I both love it!
Dried Veggies- I bought some Simply Veggies for Abs and I am now seriously addicted. Like 3 containers a week addicted. :o I am eating them now. But they are so filling and only 130 calories for half a huge bucket!
Sasha- It never ends! I forgot to wear my engagement ring yesterday. I remembered the wedding band for some reason, but forgot the e-ring. (Shaking my head and cracking up.) :)

Independence
Definitely. So not a little baby anymore. Sometimes I just have to stop and watch her play. It blows my mind the things she's capable of doing now.
Biting
Only a few isolated incidents. She bit both DH and I on separate occasion as we were carrying her up to bed, and me once while I was cooking dinner. Completely caught me off guard because she's never even tried to bit. Like you, I just got down to her level and told her no, biting hurts. I think my initial scream though scared her a bit, moreso than my lecture. It hasn't happened since.
alienhost,
LOL! I love the fry story. I swear, Micky D's has to put crack in their food. How is it kids can love it so much?
Toothpick Trick
I really need to give this a try. Thanks!

No. Only The Caramel, the Veggie, and the Regular. i just went to the site though to check them out and I had NO IDEA there were so many varities:
Bootie Varities (http://www.robscape.com/files/roberts_gourmet_products.php)
Christy,
Check the link I posted above. It looks like they have a product locator that displays the stores where it is sold. However, I don't think the list is complete as I've seen it sold at Publix & Kroger and neither are on the list.

Snap pea crisps:

http://www.snacksalad.com/products.html
Ingredients: GREEN PEAS, CORN OIL, RICE, SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C).
They're not fried, and they have 5 grams of protein per serving, but they're not really health food, either...

Booty (hee!)- I've always been intrigued by it, but never tried it.
Biting- DS was all about biting for a while, then stopped, then recently started again but only when he's tired and frustrated with something.
Toothpick trick- Hmmmmmm...definitely worth a try.
Independence- Oh yeah. He's actually gotten better at listening to me and holding my hand, but he still makes a run for it at every possible opportunity (unless of course I want him to walk, then it's "up, mom!" :rolleyes: )
Starbucks- I'm glad I'm not the only one with a kid that recognizes the green sign! James doesn't even have to see the logo; he knows where we're going as soon as we pull into the shopping center. "Drink! Cake!"
Thanks for the well wishes! I feel like it's one thing after another for us lately. I took him to the doc and she said that he most likely never actually had a stomach virus, but was throwing up because of the drainage from a sinus infection. Not sure if I totally buy that, but hopefully whatever was causing the stomach issues has either run its course or will be cleared up by the antibiotic that I have for his sinus issues. The good news is that I think this will be the start to eliminating bottles, as he hasn't had one in three days and hasn't been asking for them.

independence - Especially when I pick her up from school. She wants to walk ahead of me and not hold my hand. The other day, I had to grab her and stop her because I needed her to know that I'm her mom and she HAS to hold my hand, especially when we get outside. She's been much better about it lately. Yesterday, we went to the grocery store (and she's been refusing to get in the cart for a while now), but instead of making me hold her, she walked, holding my hand, the entire time! It was great. She helped me pick out oranges and apples, and brought the cheese to me to put in the cart. She was very helpful and didn't complain the entire time. I was very proud of her. She did try to get me to pick her up a couple of times, but I told her that if she couldn't walk, then she needed to go in the cart, so she kept walking. What a big girl she was! (Can you tell I'm proud - heehee).

Blah. Today has been such a dreary, dreary day.
Night Wakings~I think we had the weirdest one we've experienced last night. DD woke crying "Mommy. Dad," so DH went in to check on her. She kept whining and finally said "boogers". :confused: DH got a kleenex and wiped her nose. She rolled over and went back to sleep for about half an hour. Then she woke up again. I went in this time, rubbed her back for a minute and reassured her that we were right across the hall (she kept saying "Mommy. Dad. Downstairs."). Then I turned on her music, and we didn't hear her the rest of the night.
jrdhbunny~Poor James. :( I hope he is feeling better today.
Booty~No real comment here. I just felt left out since I hadn't typed the word booty yet! :p
Independence~OMGosh yes!! I can't even begin to add up the number of times I hear "Shylah self" in a single day!
Alienhost~I can see DD having the same meltdown over fries.
LIZ~LOL! Micky D's crack!! :p Shylah loves for me to put Listerine on her toothbrush in the morning. She calls it "Daddy's special stuff". I told DH that someone's going to think something bad one of these days with him keeps "special stuff" in the cabinet at home! ;) LOL!
Blah. Rain, rain go away!!!!!!

Yes! Those were the sweet potato fries I baked for her last night! I love them too. Thank goodness I had them in the freezer!
independence can we say that my DD is "little miss independent"? She wants to do everything herself and it can lead to a lot of frustration. When we walk she does NOT like holding my hand, unless it is in a strange place. I have a hard time walking on sidewalks with her b/c she pulls her hand away and yells "no" so I have to pick her up, kicking and screaming, in order to keep her safe. Fun times! She really is her own little person. It's pretty cool, most of the time ;)
toothpicks I have to try those tomorrow! I've got to get her to eat some chicken/meat.
snapea crisps I've seen them in my grocery store and was wondering if they were good. Now I must try them!

Toothpicks - Awesome that it works just as well for some of you as it does for us! I debated for two whole days on whether to post it because it seems kind-of wierd :D!
Yogurt - I'm so jealous of all the yogurt lovers. Avery won't touch the stuff and never has. I'd love to get her to start eating it since my grocery store carries organic whole milk yogurt (more calories!! more calories!!). I picked-up a Tillamook Yogurt Smoothie on a whim the other day and she happily slurped it down - maybe I just need to make it into a 'shake' to get her on board.
Veggie/Pirate Booty - OK...now I have to try this stuff ;). I've heard a lot about it, but I never drive my cart down the 'chip' aisle, so I've never bought it.
Junk Food - Moderation camp here too. I pretty much let her have at least a bite or sip of what I have, so it's good motivation to keep healthier things around the house. One of my cousins is very, very, very strict with her DDs and their diet - her girls totally sneak and hoard food. You haven't seen anything until you've witnessed a three year old stuff an entire piece of cheesecake in her mouth in under 3 seconds :eek:!
Independent - Oh Yes! Plus she wants to 'help' me a lot, especially in the kitchen. I keep telling DH that we need to record proof that our child begs to do the dishes 80 times a day because surely her love for it is going to wain someday ;).

Diedra ~ How funny that you say that about the dishes... I have a photo of Nic swiffering the floor just to prove that he was into helping me clean at one point! ...
Hoarding/sneaking ~ That is one thing that worries me. I was a HUGE sugar hoarder when I was younger (think middle/high school age)- to the point that I was worried I was developing an eating disorder (came to my senses before that happened, and now I'm a total health food junkie - well, when not pg anyway) ... I'm working on my control issues with food and Nic, but... I figure that with the attitude of if I can eat it, Nic can eat it that I won't cause him any food issues... at least I hope not...
Sleep woes ~ We've got some HUGE woes here. I don't know if Nic has any idea whats going on (baby #2 is due a week from sat) but he's suddenly VERY clingy and wants me for bed/naptime. I had a drs appt today, so dh worked from home -- tried to put Nic to sleep and he cried unconsolably (huge tears, snot running down his face... BIG TIME upset) ..every time they went near the nursery. He had a horrble night last night so I'm hoping that its just being so very overtired...BUT, I am now seriously stressing what is going to happen while I'm in the hospital!

Independent I wouldn't say we have a huge streak of this but he does ask to push the cart in the store and he refuses to hold my hand in the parking lot.
But then he does something like last night when he held my hand the whole time during our nightly family walk for reason other than to hold my hand. He hasn't held my hand like that since he mastered walking. I treasure those moments because they are sadly disappearing over time.
Toothpick We did toothpicks this weekend but DH is not so hot on it because he's afraid it will be habit. I am like, "He ate peas!!!". My mom uses the plastic sword but he was perfectly happy with the crappy wood ones this weekend.
happy1nuv Does Nic know that there is a baby in the belly and that it will soon be here? I don't remember exactly what the others did but you might want to prep him for baby#2. Ack, I have no idea what to do but I hope he settles down for you.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGH!
The night wakings Must Stop. Two nights ago it was so bad I don't even have the energy to say...but lets just say Tom & I got *maybe* 4 hours non-consecutive sleep. Good times.
Then last night he woke at 5am Freaking Out. I told Tom if he got out of bed to tend to Thomas I would murder him before he got to the door. Within 5 minutes, T calmed himself down and went back to sleep.
Problem is that Tom "feels bad for the neighbors". But my reasoning is that a few nights of them possibly hearing 5-15 minutes of crying before he moves past this and realizes he needs to calm himself down then eventually stops doing it is better than a continueous pattern of him waking up screaming Every Single Night because he knows someone will come tend to him.
Just in case, I left my neighbor a message that if she can hear him I'm taking her out for a glass of wine to make up for it. ;) Ohhhh I just love apartment living. :rolleyes:

Happy - Hehe, Sarah loves the swiffer too. When she wants to use it, I make sure to put a sheet on there....might as well put her wanting to use it to good use! ;)
Independence - Absolutely. It's becoming more and more of a challenge to get her to hold my hand, especially in some place like a mall or store. She must help load things from the grocery cart onto the conveyer belt. She wants to "read" to us. Definitely a "Little Miss Independent" here.
I must pick up toothpicks, this sounds like a fantastic idea!

I figure that with the attitude of if I can eat it, Nic can eat it that I won't cause him any food issues... at least I hope not...I think that is a great attitude...I didn't mention the worst thing about my cousin and her kids is that she (cousin) and her DH freely eat things that they won't let their kids have right in front of them.
Toothpick Trick - I also worry about it becoming a habit, so I don't do it often. Maybe once a week or once every two weeks. Sometimes I feel desperate to get her to eat anything of substance that I pull out strange eating tricks, but I know my situation is a little different since my kid can be perfectly happy to survive on 2 crutons a day for 4 days straight :rolleyes:.
Nightwakings - We seem to be in a good spot right now (knock on wood), but I feel for those of you in the thick of it. Avery had multiple night wakings..as in every 30 minutes for 2+ hours..every night from November until a few weeks ago. I think it was teething the canines mixed with a little sep. anxiety and now that the teeth have pushed through she's doing much better in the sleep department.

Ahhhh...add another health woe to our pile. DH has been having headaches for about 10 days and then yesterday he came home from work with terrible stomach pain. He finally went to the doctor today and he is right now having a CT scan to see what's going on. Could be a blockage, his appendix, an infection- they hope to know once they get the results from his tests. Any thoughts and/or prayers are very much appreciated!!
As for James, we decided to hold off on the anitbiotics until we speak with his doctor. I don't think I clearly articulated my concerns to the NP who prescribed them. This is the third round he's had in just a few months and I really don't want to see him build up an immunity to them in case something serious comes along. The care he's getting here is just so different from what he got in NYC- here he never sees the same person, let alone his doctor, while in NYC he always saw his ped so there was a familiarity and trust there. It's weird because it's not in my nature to question a medical professional, but I'm just uneasy with this diagnosis. Does that make sense?
happy and kim- Sounds like it may very well have something to do with the sibling's impending arrival. Babies are very intuitive; they may be able to sense that something big is very close to happening.

happy: Re: being "needy of mommy" yes, Landon started this about 2 months before I had Reece, at first, I thought it was because of him being sick so much from Dec.-Feb., but as my due date got closer, I started figuring it out. He did fine when he stayed with my parents while Brett and I were in the hospital when the baby was born, but I have continued to rock him to sleep for his nap and lay w/ him while he falls asleep at night. Honeslty, it keeps me sane, otherwise, I'd be pulling my hair out fighting with him to go down, and I just don't have the energy for it these days. It's pretty easy, because Reece has been so easy so far...He either sleeps in his bouncy while I rock Landon after lunch (which takes all of 3 mins.) or he sits in it looking around, if he's awake. At night, Brett takes him while I lay with Landon, which usually, again, takes about 3 mins., but...it's what works and is easy at this point, and I'm all about that right now! ;) So, after my long winded answer, yes, I think the clingy-ness to mommy does infact have something to do with the impending birth, they're smart little cookies!
jrdh: Will be thinking and praying for your dh, keep us posted!
Well, I should be resting myself...both of my babes are, but of course, I'm busy catching up on the computer! ;)

Deployment Sucks: I think Aidan has figured out that Daddy is gone and going to be gone for a long time. Yesterday, my UPS deliveries (toy box and shelves) were delivered to the house across the street so I went to get them and the soldier living there helped me bring the heavy box across the street. He came in the house and set it down and said hi to Aidan. She stared at him and wouldn't say anything (weird for her, she's little miss social). He left and she burst into tears and was inconsolable for a good 10 minutes. Today her day care teacher said she didn't nap, she laid there and asked for her daddy. She's breaking my heart.

Chatty, chatty ladies! I am keeping up by reading, but I have not been able to post!
Tgray -Oh, my. My heart is breaking thinking about poor little Aidan. I hope this year goes as fast as it possibly could for you and her.
jrdh -Good luck vibes for your DH!
Toothpick trick -We used it on Rebecca two nights ago to get her to eat pork chops and it worked! Thanks to whoever posted the idea!
Booty -Major favorite snack in our house. Veggie is her favorite, but all the stores are out down here, so she is eating Pirates Booty. Kim -You are so right, the Smart Puffs are way addictive! I don't buy them for our house anymore!
Soda/Junk -No soda, but ice cream and low fat cookies in moderation. My little girl is constantly on the move so she burns it off pretty fast.
Time change -DD finally got herself back on schedule. It took a long time this time around. She skipped a few naps, but now she seems to be getting back in the groove.
2nd birthday -I can't believe my little one is almost two! It is crazy how fast these past 2 years (well, 2yrs, 9 months since my PG went fast as well) have gone! I am baking/decorating DDs princess cake and I am stressing over it big time. Why on earth do I do this to myself????
First Haircut -We are planning on having her first haircut done when we are in Disney World next week in Magic Kingdom. They give the kids tons of stickers, blow bubbles while they are getting their hair snipped and then they get mouse ears that have first haircut emboroided on the back. I can't wait!
I am leaving tomorrow morning for a confrence for work and won't be home until Sunday. Is it wrong that I am looking forward to a much needed break from the terrible two's? I feel like such a bad Mom!
Crocs -Have any of you purchased crocs for your DC? We just got DD some and she adores them. So easy for her to put her shoes on now since she is Miss Independent, I can do everything myself, thank you very much.
Potty Training -We are going to bite the bullet when we get back from Disney. DD signs potty everytime she pees and poops during the daytime and then wants out of her dora easy up diapers and a new one on. I'm not sure how to get her ready for the toilet though, because she always wants off within a minute of going on it. Does anyone have any good tips?
Okay, off to bed- I have to get up at 5:15am. Talk to you ladies in a week!

Night Wakings- We've had them around 5am for the past week or so. Not enjoying that. I just bring her to bed with us b/c we get up around 7am to get ready for school anyway.
happy1 & Dierdra- I had no idea your due dates were so close! Just a few weeks! :eek:

Okay, lets see if this works today. I had a post all written the other day and lost it.
ally ~ Thanks.
Sasha ~ Thanks. It's possible. It's going to be one of the things we discuss at his next ped appt. I wouldn't call it projectile vomitting. And it's more than just dribbles.
DisneyGirl ~ Sorry that your house has been under the weather as well.
jrdh ~ Thanks. Sorry about getting locked in the basement. That's one of the reasons that I'm glad none of our doors locked except for the front and back door.
Alicia ~ Thanks. We did some cleaning (which was definitely past time to do) and watched the NCAA tourney.
ranchers ~ Beautiful announcement! I can relate to that chaos. DD has a love affair with my wallet and cards. I'm now saving the ones that come in the mail. DH finds some of those gift cards at stores and picks up one for DD. She's thrilled. Now I have to find her a play wallet so she'll leave mine alone.
happy1 ~ Thanks.
kim ~ I don't really let her play with my keys but she finds them (in the diaper bag). I think my mom is going to let her have some old keys of my dad's to play with. I never let her have them when we are out.
So you have an avid soda drinker as well? It's just about the only thing my DH drinks. I've said over the years that I needed to buy stock in two companies for as much as he drinks. I'm hoping that once the kids are a little older he doesn't drink as much since I think it sets an example if they see the parent doing it and think it's okay for them (and this goes for anything...smoking, drinking, etc).
Anyone else's kid waking up in the middle of the night, crying for 5 minutes then going back? Yes. She's been doing it for a while. I've learned not to get up immediately (wasn't a real problem the last months I was pregnant since getting up immediately didn't happen anymore) when it happens. I wait to see if it continues before getting up. I'm thinking that DD's are related to dreams/night terrors. Plus she's had a cough ever since she had her ear infection back in late December.
psusna ~ Their child doesn't eat veggies? And drinks pop? DD has only been allowed sips of clear soda when she sick with her ear infection at 18 months (late December). She wasn't real fond of it and that's been it.
Night waking ~ If DD hears the alarm go off in the morning when DH gets up that is the end of her sleeping for at least an hour. It's so much fun when that happens. I swear he is hard of hearing because I have no problem hearing the alarm but he can't hear the darn thing at full blast. (Sasha I can relate that DH doesn't ever hear her crying either. And he can be in the same darn room when she's crying and he still doesn't hear her. It's been that way since day one. Not sure how he can't hear her when I can hear her 3 rooms away.)
Drinks ~ I finally got Sarah to drink something besides milk. She drank grape pedialyte last week along with water. Still won't touch juice though. But I've considered trying grape juice since she likes grapes and drank the grape pedia drink.
Tara ~ When I sleep with Sarah it's just as much fun. She kicks so I've limited my time with her in bed because I just can't handle her kicking my incision area.
Food ~ She has chips but I try to limit how many she has. She'll eat tortilla chips like crazy. She also loves salsa, chip dip (thanks to daddy since he taught her to dip and now everything has to be dipped in something). She also eats cookies (as a dessert). Everything in moderation is my motto. DD loves ice cream but she also only gets it on certain occasions.
Liz ~ Sarah will double (triple, quad, etc) dip when it comes to salsa. She'll lick the salsa off and come back for more. There is a mexican place in town and she loves their homemade salsa (and it's on the warm side).
Biting ~ Only when she's teething.
Independence ~ Sometimes she's good at letting someone help her but most of the time she wants to do it herself. She rarely wants to ride in the cart anymore. To get her to ride in it I have to have A in the carseat in the cart as well so she can see him. She will help push the cart though. It's pretty cute as she's standing on her tippy toes while her hands are on the handle. She's definitely more independent since A arrived. She now wants to carry him (and has more than once) besides wanting to help. She'll bring him his pacifier any time he's crying or tell him to "ssshhhhhhh" with her finger up to her mouth when he's crying.
Naamah ~ Wasn't yesterday a dreary day? I don't know exactly how much rain we got but it was definitely a nice amount. We now have a nice amount of water in the pond. I know we need the rain but sometimes it just sucks. Looking forward to Saturday and near 80 degrees!
jrdh ~ I hope everything is okay with your DH.
Tara ~ Sorry about the deployment issues. I know when my DH is gone just two days DD hallers out for him. DD also sometimes makes a scene when DH leaves. She's definitely become more of a daddy's girl the past 6 months. It's one of the things that I fear when/if a deployment happens for us. I hope the next few months pass quickly for both of you. If you ever need to talk about things, PM me. I'll give you my email/IM addy and we can talk. {{{HUGS}}} to both of you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been dealing with a toddler who is cutting her eye teeth (I'll be so glad when teething is over with). This has been by far the worst of all the teething. She doesn't complain or act like her mouth hurts it is just causing problems in other areas. Last week she vomitted anytime she was given milk. (And cleaning up sour milk is nasty.) So she didn't have any from Monday until Thursday. This week it's been coming out the other end. I've cleaned up more wet/liquid stools that I ever care to. Called the doc and he called in a script for her. It seems to be helping as they are as frequent and aren't as liquidy.
Yesterday was nasty rainy day. Today was better but it's suppose to rain again tomorrow. Saturday it's suppose to be close to 80 degrees.
Meri~Oh 80 degrees sounds WONDERFUL! I think we may take advantage of it and go to Joplin for at least part of the day!
Naamah ~ We have to go there to pick up our pictures so we'll be there for part of the day. I'd also like to get some cleaning done but that may wait for Sunday (I think it's suppose to rain again then). I'd also like to take some pictures of the kids outside as well.
Crocs: YES!!! He is on his second pair and they are wonderful. He can put them on himself, take them off, wash them off with the hose, etc. DH got his new pair at Disneyland on his last trip -- instead of circular holes in the top they are Mickey Mouse head shape :) DS is always asking to wear his "Micka Mouse Shoes"!
tgray ~ HUGS!! Your story made me cry...
ranchers ~ Hmmm, didn't know if he'd pick up on the baby BEFORE ...I mean, we try and tell him there's a baby in mommies belly but I dont think he really gets it... ah well, the joys!
Crocs ~ nope, but its still too cold here yet for them...
tgray - {{{hugs}}} to you and Aidan. It breaks my heart.
jrdh - ITA with you and restricting the anti-biotics, especially if he's had quite a few rounds lately. It sounds like you're not super happy with your new peds. Are you thinking of maybe finding a new practice that is more in line with your beliefs? I can't imagine Maia seeing a different ped every time she goes to the doctor. I like that we've built a relationship with her one ped.
night wakings - none here, thank goodness. Although I sleep like the dead, so even if she woke up, I'm not sure I'd hear her :rolleyes: ...also, we haven't used a monitor in over 6 months. :o
teething - Maia was an early teether and is actually working on her 2-year molars right now. These are some super-duper teeth. Gigantic! She got her i-teeth in about 4-5 months ago.
OK, Maia is taking over the mouse...I think my time here is done!
jrdhbunny I hope your DH is OK and you find out good news from the test results.
tgray I feel for you and A, I hope things get better for you guys. I can't imagine what you are going through.
toothpicks Diedra thanks for posting that tip, I used it last night and DD ate bunch of chicken! She thought it was very fun and kept asking for more chicken.
tired mamas/night wakings I hope everyone gets through them quickly and all get some rest.
crocs My sister bought DD a pair of Mickey Mouse crocs, like psusna's DS has, but they are too big right now. She likes carrying them around though and calls them "mickey shoes".
Chylynn I can't believe your DD's birthday is just around the corner! I'm sorry to say that we still haven't put together the trike yet or tried the seat belt, DH has been swamped. Enjoy Disney and don't stress about the party, it will all come together.
tgray My thoughts are with you but I wish there was more we could do for little Aidan. I hope you guys have a nice Mommy and Daughter weekend.
crocs Yep, we have them though they are a loose fit. I posted awhile back that they were great for those that insist on putting on their shoes b/c it's super simple. DS does this all the time with our shoes. I can say that we are on our 3rd pair of Chuck Taylors. It's the only shoe that DH won't try to take off.
Teeth Kill me now but I think we have 2nd yr molars coming. I can't get back there
to check but he is so chewing his hands. It's over after this, right?! RIGHT?!?
Tgray - ((Hugs)) to you and Aidan. I can only imagine how much you are both missing Ryan.
jrdh - Hope all is ok with your DH and the tests come back ok.
Crocs - Hmm, sounds like a good investment since Sarah is constantly taking off her shoes. Are you guys buying the real ones or knock-offs? Where do you find them in toddler sizes? The ones I always see look like they'd be too big.
tgray- Oh goodness, your story breaks my heart. Great big hugs to you and Aidan.
AuntLiv- You know, I actually like the practice and I think our ped is really good (of course, we've only seen her once, but I liked her). She called me back yesterday and we had a really good conversation- she agreed with me and DH that we should hold off on the antibiotic until it seemed like he really needed it. (more on this below) She promised to check up on him on Friday and see him if necessary. Plus, my SIL said that all the offices around here are all like that and that I could always request to see my ped if I thought I could wait for her to be available. So we'll stick it out and see what happens at his next well visit.
So DH is ok- his bloodwork and CT scan came out fine- thanks for all the good thoughts our way! They gave him a prescription for reflux medication and it seems to be doing the trick.
DS woke up this morning with a cough and runny nose, as well as an explosive diaper. :( We started him on the antibiotic as he's clearly displaying symptoms. But a couple hours later he developed a rash on his chest, stomach and thighs and had an awful bout of diarreah. I gave him Benadryl which cleared up the rash and the ped said to give him one more dose of the antibiotic this evening and see if he breaks out again. Poor little guy!!! We've totally backslid in the food and tv arenas- hopefully he'll start to feel better this weekend and we can get back on track.
Ughh...I woke up this morning with a HORRIBLE bladder infection. Thought I was dying...I've never had one, and man, this is rough. While I was crying to my mom this afternoon, I told her I sware I'd soooo rather be giving birth than having this pain. It was really bad, thankfully my OB got me right in this morning and gave me an Rx that is safe to use while bf'ing, however by the time I made it to the pharmacy this afternoon, it had gotten much worse and I was so freakin' uncomfortable. Not good times. I was in tears, my mom went and got me some cranberry juice and I sware that stuff works wonders. After my second glass, I was already feeling better, now two doses later of the antibiotic and I'm feeling SO much better, but seriously, I really would've rather been giving birth, it was so bad!
jrdh: I hope the antibiotic works without giving him the rash again...poor guy! :( So glad everything is OK with your dh!!! Good news!!!
Ok girls, I'm off to bed, it's been a long, painful day.
jrdh - I'm so glad to hear that your DH is OK. Here's to your DS getting better fast!!! You must be so tired of playing doctor/nurse.
rancher - Yikes!!:eek: I hope you feel better fast! I can't imagine dealing with a bladder infection while running after a toddler and taking care of a newborn.
Me: Maia is in school today (YES!!!). She's wearing a skirt for the first time, and has been twirling all morning...I need to get this child into some dance classes.:p I just hope she doesn't spend all day flashing her classmates (she really enjoys lifting her skirt...hmmm). Gotta go shopping for some cute tops today. Have any of you bought Bella Bands before? I keep hearing about it over in the expecting threads and wanted to see what everyone's experience has been with those.
Kim: Quick question. That portable crib tent you posted for me a few pages back, would it work on a crib with a drop side, rounded rails on the two sides -- like an older Jenny Lind style? DS will be sleeping in that at my parent's next weekend and wanted to see if this would for sure fit a crib or just a PnP. TIA!
ahavnes - LOL! What is up with our girls? Yours is stripping, mine is lifting her skirt. Sheesh!
Crocs - I just bought some for Maia today. I found them at this little boutique that's down the street from us. Haven't really seen them anywhere else. She looooooves them! They're a little on the big side, but the size under were just too small. She'll get to grow into them, I guess. Have any of you put the jibbitz in the crocs? They're chocking hazards, but I really don't think Maia could get them out if I put them in her crocs.
Silly Boppy Question: I found a thread that made me feel better about washing them (I just toook Thomas' 2 old ones oout of storage), but on the Boppy website it said it is only to be used for one year.
I would think this is a marketing ploy to get people to buy new Boppys when they had new kids....any thoughts?
LMAO!! Naughty little girl....where exactly did she learn that from? Hmmmm....;)
The crib we used it on at the hotel was a metal 'mini crib' with a drop-side, and...how do I explain this? The top vertical rail wasn't much bigger in circumferance than that of a PnP. So it fit fine. The tent attaches with these C-shaped 'hooks' so there is a little leeway in how big that rail can be, as long as it is truly round, and not just rounded.
God, did that even make sense? :o
Aunt Liv
Is this what I have to look forward to, having a DD means having a flasher in the family, lol?
I never tried the Bella Bands, so sorry no review there.
OMG those eye teeth are the WORST. Hang in there!
Oh, and I wish I coud get DH to back off the soda. But its really his only vice, and he has cut down a bit, so its hard to complain. It'll just be "drink like mommy, not daddy please" :rolleyes: .
I am leaving tomorrow morning for a confrence for work and won't be home until Sunday. Is it wrong that I am looking forward to a much needed break from the terrible two's? I feel like such a bad Mom!
When I did a weekend away, and when I leave Tom home with T some people ask me all-weepily "Ohhhhh are you hanging in there? You must miss him TERRIBLY and can't wait to get back! Have you called to check up on them yet?" and I'm like....uhhhhh noooooo. :p I'm doing fine, thanks! I see them both All The Time, lol! I manage somehow to survive. ;)
rancherswife -Oh, no! I hope you are feeling better soon!
jrdh -Phew! Glad it is okay!
Teeth -Ugh, it is awful, isn't it?! DD finally popped one of her 2 yr molars and she had been working on them for almost 2 months. Not looking forward to the other three coming through. Poor kiddos!
crocs-Peeking in on my laptop while I have a break from my confrence. I purchased knock off crocs from BRU for $10. I was going to go with the originals, but I really could not find a diffrence with these (they were 99% as flexible as the original crocs), so I went with them. DD loves hers so we are going to get them in another color and it will still be cheaper than purchasing one pair of crocs!
alienhost -Well, DH is supposed to be putting together the trike while I am away, so I will let you know how it steers and looks put together. We ended up getting a kettler basket and bell and I just purchased a small license plate with DDs name on it to go with her trike! I can't believe my little one is going to be two in 9 days! Where oh where has the time gone?!
Kim -Thanks!! You made me feel so much better. :) I did talk to her last night and wish her a goodnight, but she is having fun with Daddy so I am not feeling the least bit guilty!
rancherswife Yikes, I hope you feel better soon.
crocs you can get them online at www.shoebuy.com with free shipping (http://www.shoebuy.com/baby-crocs-shoes.htm). I've seen a $10 off coupon somewhere and you get 10% off your first purchase if you register, I think. They have infant/toddler sizes. If you use fatwallet.com or ebates.com you can get another 10% off.
Alien - Thanks for those links! How does the sizing run for them?
Rancher - Oh yuck! Feel better quickly. BTW, I am totally thinking about you this weekend because I have to go to an event tomorrow night called "Ranch Roam" and it's all cowboy/western themed. I don't exactly have a great outfit for it, LOL. ;)
jrdh - Glad everything came back ok for your hubby.
Alicia and Aunt Liv - LOL, Sarah always pulls her dresses up....hence, we don't wear them very often. ;)
Chylynn - Wow, I can't believe R turns two so soon! You should definitely enjoy a little time away. :)
Boppy - That has to be a marketing ploy! Why in the world would they only last for a year?
There is a NEW ARRIVAL in our group! :D I just got an email from happy1's DH:
happy1nluv gave birth yesterday, 3/23/07.
Joseph Charles was born at 4:14pm, weight of 8 lbs 2 oz and height of 20 3/4 inches.
Both Mom and baby are doing great.
She actually cancelled some plans we had last week because she KNEW she was going to go very soon. Mother's intuition, lol!
ranchers: Hope you are feeling better today!
jrdh: So glad all is well with DH, and I hope DS is doing well today too.
Chylyn: Good for you for getting away for a bit, even if work related. I've never left DH home alone over night with DS. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to, but I'm scared to see what my hosue would look like when I got home :rolleyes:
Aunt Liv: Too cute about her skirt! Aren't you loving this amazing weather?! How did she like her Crocs?
Carissa: Hi :) How are the kiddos doing?
Teeth: Add us to team molar. This sux -- he had been doing so great with teething, even the rest of his 1 year molars. These suckers are HUGE!
Off to finish my cleaning before DS gets up and wants to tear it up outside. Have a great afternoon everyone!
Apparently I need to get Abbey into strip-dance classes. I picked her up from school yesterday and she was in her back-up outfit b/c she kept taking her dress off. :confused: Daddy was not amused! ;)
Here too. Apparently she's been stripping on the playground at day care. :rolleyes: A friend of mine said I needed to install a stripper pole in her room.
Discipline: I had to start doing time outs today. She threw a fit when I wouldn't let her have another container of applesauce that she saw in the fridge (she'd already had 1). She was hitting, screaming and going nuts. So, I called my mom and she said put her in the "thinkin' chair" (what we called it when we were kids) for 1 minute for every year old she is. I put her in it for 1 minute, 45 seconds (since she's almost 2). She immediately calmed down and stayed put in the chair. She didn't even say a word. Makes me think they must do time outs at day care.
Deployment Sucks: I bought Aidan a toy box and bookshelves for her room from Target.com. Today I started trying to put them together and I am having the hardest time with this damn safety hinge. I know it's supposed to work but I can't do it. Ryan is always the one to do this stuff, he can get these things put together in minutes but I'm stupid apparently and can't figure it out. When he called today (yay!) I told him it was time to come home and put this stuff together for me. Does anyone know if Target has assembly services if I took the boxes up there and paid for it? I know of 2 whole men in this whole town and I'm leery of asking either of them for help (I don't know why). Anyone ever put together the "Do Your Room" toy box from Target that can clue me in?
COngrats happy and Welcome Joseph!
I was just wondering about her today. :)
Tgray- I don't think Target offers assembly services. FWIW, you are not stupid...I wouldn't be able to do it either!
Hi Carissa!
