WOW! Looks like I'm FIRST!!!!!!!!!

Regarding the last few post in our other thread...

RosegardenC - first he has prickly heat from being so hot and sweaty when he sleeps, and some friction type rash on his creases of his thighs, neck and under arms, so I use corn starch powder, then he has SUPER dry skin everywhere else so I try lotion,My baby is getting something very similar. The doctor told me it was excema...even the prickly heat looking bumps. I use Hydrocortisone cream on it when it flares up. In between flare-ups I rub her down with Cetaphil (sp?) cream. From what I am told, if I KEEP her constantly rubbed down with the Cetaphil, she may not break out in the "hives" as often.

{b} - Sorry you had to give up Diet Coke...but have you tried caffeine free Diet coke?? I've been drinking Caffeine free coke.

Claire is doing well. She FINALLY has moved into size 2 diapers. Also, she has started demanding a little more milk with each feeding lately...she now drinks around 5-5.5 oz per feeding instead of the usual 4 oz. So this weekend I moved her up to the 8 oz Dr. Brown's bottles. My little girl is growing up! :)

Eeks! Sorry those are so big. I'm not sure how to make them smaller.

We're dealing with some difficult news here in the Ramsey household. Ovi's "4" month appt (he was really 4 and 3 weeks) revealed that he is not gaining weight, length, or head circumference very well. My almost 5 month old weighs only just over 12 pounds. :(

We suspect that it is a food allergy/sensitivity we haven't yet caught (he's dairy and oat sensitive, so I cut those out around 1.5 months old...). So I am right now on a serious elimination diet. After 10 days so far of eating only potatoes, free range turkey and lamb, yellow and green squash, pears, and rice, he is a different baby. He is happy, spits up less, and is sleeping much better.

We go back in another week for a weigh-in. Wish us luck!!

Does anyone want to add any more advice to the list for next year's September Mommies??

Aletheia: If you are small chested, I would recommend buying some Old Navy maternity tank tops as soon as you can. I found the bralettes in them to be just as much support as I needed, and flexible in size enough that I didn't need to buy 8 different bras as the pregnancy progressed. And now that I'm nursing, they are way better than nursing tanks/bras- I just pull my boob out over the top. The tank part means too that my tummy isn't getting cold- my over shirt goes up, the top of the tank goes down. I've gotten tons of use out of these tank tops!

Aletheia: Here's my ingredient list for comfy co-sleeping:
1. a square couch size pillow-- easier to navigate than a full bed pillow
2. a clock you can see in the dark fron most positions in bed
3. chapstick nearby
4. water bottle w/ a straw
5. prefold diapers to protect sheets from spit-up
6. winter: turtlenecks w/ holes cut out for easy booby access

Rippy1010: If you are FFing, I wouldn't really waste your money on the Boppy. I think BFing mommies get more use out of it. To get a jump on STTN, make sure that you keep a consistent bedtime "routine". Oh, and don't believe everything you read or hear ... even from the most caring and concerned relative, or even from the ped.

{b} - Take what you want from parenting books and people's advice, just like you do while PG. Try not to compare your baby to other babes or other mom's comments/bragging/gloating. You'll love them little, but you'll love them in the next stage, too. Take lots of pictures.

Camdynlyn: Buy the "For Crying Out Loud" CD or get a copy of one! It's awesome and has really saved us. It plays 'white noise' such as rain, vacuum, hairdryer. We keep the rain on repeat all night and when she naps in her crib, we use the radio so she distinguishes the difference between naps and night. Has worked like a charm and she's been sleeping through the night since 12weeks.

Camdynlyn: I know it's iffy but we have really loved our wipe warmer and I think it's a MUST for newborns. My reasoning... when Mia would poop in the middle of the night and HAD to be changed, a cold wipe would wake her up in a heartbeat whereas the warm wipe wasn't so noticable and made for easy transitions back to bed.

Camdynlyn: If you're using a bassinet and plan to transition to a crib, do so fairly early, if you can. We transfered Mia at 6 weeks which was wonderful. I hated not having her right beside me and I cried the first few nights not being able to look over and see her but it was worth it in the long run to not have to fight the battle when she was older.

Camdynlyn: Take pictures during your pregnancy. You'll feel fat and may not want to show them to anyone and that's fine but you'll regret not having them later on. I was just looking back at the folder of pictures on my computer labeled 'Pregnancy' last night. It has my belly shots from every week along with some various other ones. I enjoyed looking back and reminising. I also wished I had more of me when I was pregnant but because I felt so fat (and was-- shoot, still am), I hated having my picture taken but I cherish those that I do have (and I mean normal pics-- not just ones of my naked belly for belly shots).

LyLMyssChaos:
Remember that your baby is just that, a baby, not a statistic or an anecdote in a book . It's always nice to receive advice, but you as a mom know your baby than anyone else, so if someone tries to tell you something that you really don't think won't work for your baby, or someone tells you that you are doing something wrong, but it DOES work. Ignore them. You know what's right and no two babies are exactly alike!

RosegardenC: No matter how much you read and prepare for you new arrival, remember that your baby is uniqiue! and will do what he or she wants, in remembering that, do what your heart tells you to, no one knows your baby as well as you do no matter what thier degree or how many children they have. Also remember its totally natural to feel overwhelmed go ahead and cry if you need to, even thrice offenders (like me) get to feeling too tired, and like no one understands...

brenda
01-17-2007, 05:50 PM
Brenda: There may be times you feel little or no connection to your baby, and you do the things that have to get done (hold, feed, change the baby) because that's what you have to do. This is ok and totally normal. Very few people talk about the numbness that may overtake you occasionally. So long as you keep on trucking, and ask for help when you need it, you're doing great. Occasional detachment and/or annoyance with the baby doesn't make you a bad mom, just a tired one. Ask for help when you need it.

today was a good day for Cameron for many reasons Im sure. I have been giving him the Mylicon with feedings and it really seems to be helping and his Eczema looks so much better already! Its amazing truly! He is even asleep in his bassinet at the moment WHEW! Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day too, DH and I have to go to the Annual Beaux Arts Ball put on by National Jewish Hospital tomorrow night and Cameron is staying at home with Big Brother Harrison. I am not worried that Harrison wont do a good job this it the third time we have left him in charge of the baby, the difference it this time baby will prob. NOT be alsleep when we leave! So Harrison will have to get him down... UGH! I am sooo nervous! We have to leave here at 7ish and we should be home by 10 as we are only staying for the dinner not the whole shindig, but I dont want Harrison to have to be stuck with a screaming bumble for three hours! I do have a good friend who lives close by and H has her number and she knows whats going on and she is really good with C, but still...... LOL! sucha worrisome mommy!

Baby is finally back to herself this week (knock on wood). We had a really rough week of very little sleep and lots of screaming (for both of us, this Mommy thing and WOH is hard!) after the 4 month shots (Which I HATE injecting her with... sigh...)

At her WBV over a week ago: She's 13 pounds, 3 ounces (50th percentile) and 26 inches long (90th percentile). Long and lean, which she definitely doesn't get from me!

Trying to transition her out of the basinett in our room to her crib. She sort of hates the crib, though. But I think we'll all get more sleep once she's in her own room. She's noisy! But she stirs everytime one of us rolls over.

She is *this close* to rolling over, but hasn't yet.

I've been back working now for over two weeks and everything is going well. I love the new job and for once in my career, I'm working with a lot of women. In software engineering, that's rarely the case but it's made going off to pump twice a day much more comfortable.:)

DH is doing so much better than I thought he would as a SAHD - he seems hesitant to pass Lily over to me when I get home at night even!

Oh, and we bought a new car. Not something I wanted to do right now but my POS VW Passat has spent more time at the mechanics than at home the past few months and I was starting to worry about DH not having a car for emergencies.

Leo had his 4 month WBV this morning.

He is 14 lbs., 10 oz. and 26 inches long. Head circumference is 44 cm.

He is to continue taking .75 ml of Zantac twice a day, though the fact that he hasn't had to increase his dosage means that his reflux is getting better.

Everything looks good, though we have to bathe him more often. *innocent whistle*

He peed on the new nurse practitioner. Twice. :o

He has a hemangioma (sp?) below his scrotum. It is painless & nothing to worry about. It should disappear on its own by the time he's 9 or 10.

The ped & NP said to keep an eye on him, since he's indicating that he's going to be rolling and moving about really soon!

We will talk about introducing solids (a little cereal to start) at his 6 month WBV at the end of March.

He had more vaxes today, so I nursed him a little bit after he got them. Then he fell asleep on the way to daycare.

Here's my favorite LJ icon. It's from a picture taken of him at Christmas.

DJ,
He had some dry skin around his neck and his cradle cap STANK.

She asked about bathing and I admitted we only do it once a week. :o

She said twice a week is good plus using a washcloth on his face & chin when necessary.

OMG if I bathed Ovi 1x a week you would probably be able to smell him before you could hear him. Annd with all the yelling this kid does, that's saying something.

He's just a big spitter. So he (and mommy) bathe and do laundry daily. :D

We give DS a bath each night also. It is part of baby-daddy bonding time. He feeds, then daddy gives him and bath, puts on his PJs and puts him to bed. We find it makes a big difference in how easy he is to get to bed. Plus he tends to STTN when he has been bathed where as he will wake once or twice if he didn't get his bath.

We do baths every other night. At work, we only give babies a bath once a week - so for those that do, it's not that uncommon!

Allison got a cold last week and it's turned her sleep habits upside down. We went from sleeping 7pm-8am since week 10 or so, to waking up 3-4x a night. Ugh. So frustrating and I feel like a zombie again.

At Christmas, about 14 weeks:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/suiej/Amelia/of50295442.jpg

Amelia is doing great! She was 15 pounds, 12 ounces at her 4 month appointment last week, and 27 1/2 inches long. She's gotten so big, I'm amazed at how fast she's grown.

She's almost rolling over, she's working on sitting up, but she'll only last on her own for a few seconds before tipping over. It's a fun game, at least.

She eats like crazy, she'll go through about 20 ounces a day at daycare, then I'll still feed her three times before bed. I'm pumping like crazy to keep up!

Our pediatrician says we can start cereal anytime, since she seems to be interested in food and she eats a ton anyway. She also said her motor development indicates she could probably take a spoon.

Haven't tried it yet, but we will definitely be waiting on other foods until she's 6 months.

Baths - She gets one every other night. She gets stinky around her neck area, so that gets wiped every night, and she'll occasionally join me in the shower for a quick washing.

We do daily baths as well, two nights a go we didn't bathe him because he had a temperature and was not feeling good and I can tell he hates not being bath! I end up giving him a short bath in the am.

Every night around 7:30ish he starts getting fussy because he is tired and we know that is bath time!

Marc has been rolling all directions for a while now, he moves a lot! We put him in the crib and by the time he wakes up he has rolled all over the place, most of the times he’s done a 180 turn. Same in play mats and floor, we are actually thinking on getting ride of our coffee table just because is a big wooden chest with some metal peaces that really worry me.

I can't wait til he starts crawling- which by the way he is already trying to do!- I know that doesn’t mean anything but at least is a step forward- we have a big 100lbs yellow lab who adores him, he is really good with him but I can picture Marc crawling and Chopp following him around everywhere!

The little one is sitting up for longer intervals now, yesterday he stayed up for a good 5-10 min. He is become so mobile that the whole eating with him on our laps is become a hassle, he wants to grab everything which is really cute but not so much when you are in a hurry.

Do everybody else’s baby LOVES the phone? Marc is obsessed! I will call my parents and put them on the speaker phone and he just wants to grab it and of course put in his mouth, gosh they are getting so cute!!

Baths - we bathe Lily every other night. She loves the bath itself but screams her head off as soon as I lift her out and continues that for a good five minutes so bathtime isn't that pleasant.

She had her four month appointment today and is 15lb 2oz (90%) and 26"(95%+) . I was actually a little disappointed, hoping she'd have dipped a little percentage wise. While DH and I are average height, my brother is 6'5" and I'm hoping she hasn't inherited the exceptionally tall gene. I know her size now doesn't necessarily mean she'll be larger later but I keep picturing her a grown 6'2" woman. :o

di DS had/ has hemangioma about the size of an eraser tip on back of neck. It was bright pink/red but by two it is barely visible.

Here is Eliza now, what a chubbo!

Baths ~ We're pretty lax over this way, with Rachel getting a bath probably every three days. Lately I've been trying to bathe her more often, as she is a bucket of drool, and it makes the folds in her neck kinda funky!

Rachel will be five months old tomorrow, and look at what she has learned to do:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v606/suziemci/kids022.jpg

Of course, she can only sit for a couple of minutes, then topples over (and laughs), but she is getting so good at it!

We had her at the pool for the first time this past week, and she loved it! Splashed and kicked the whole time.

I can't believe that she is five months old.

delicious Well thanks! I do love that little avatar of your oldest! cute blondie! I do have my eye on your work as well, I would love more pics of course!
As a side bar... I have long time been interested in taking a few photog classes just to get a clue.. any suggestions in our area?

bathing Ds begs for them and we cannot get him out. The first time I put them in the bath together- DS pooped! What a fun thing that was! But DD gets one every other day or so. Since DS in already in there, I kind of dip her in fast and it gives me something to do while I wait for the fish to finish.

I am having one of my first glasses of wine in a very long time! I am still Bfing so DD is asleep I think for the night. Both kids were not easy to get down at all tonight. DD usually falls asleep nursing at night and I deposit her in her crib around 10-11. But DS has to be laid down with ( in our bed of course) SO I had this brilliant idea that I would get him his blanket, water and let him snuggle in with the door open so he could see me in the living room ( Dh is gone)
That led to 45 minutes of dry heaving and screaming, until Eliza fell asleep and I could tuck him back in. ARGH! I have begun letting DD cry it out for naps etc. It only lasts 5 maybe 10 mins. I just couldn't do it with DS and I sure am still paying for it. But he was a kid that would cry and puke. So this wine is soooo good!

DD is still not a big fan of bathtime, and I have to admit she only gets one once a week. At least she isn't screa, ing through bathtime anymore, but she doesn't do that fun splashing and giggling thing yet.

She is *this close* to rolling over (18 weeks), but hasn't really done it yet. She can't sit unassisted yet. Has little/no interest in table foods, though she sure did watch DH's fork movng to his mouth during lunch today FAR closer than she's ever noticed it before.

{b}CUTE!

DD slept until 8a, this morning! (10 hrs) I couldn't believe it! of course I was wide eyed much earlier and in there to make sure she was breathing, then I couldn't sleep again as any nursing mom knows, I was almost willing her awake, almost;)

at church today, met a mom who's baby was due mid Sept, and she was born at 26 weeks!!!! She is doing great! just a little peanut, Eliza could eat her for a snack! But she was a fighter and beat all the odds and is thriving! What a true miracle!

Why is it that I have gotten more sleep the last two nights, but I feel more tired? How much sense does that make?

Theodore is doing good. We have been able to do the breathing treatments "as needed," which hasn't been for a few weeks now. Theodore missed his 4 month check-up because he was sick, so we are going to wait until his 6 month. He is getting to be a BIG boy though. We are contemplating giving up "the bucket" and putting him into a convertible seat very soon because his feet hang over the end of the bucket. He is weaing 6-9month clothes. As far as motor skill go, he's a little bit "behind." He can roll over back to stomach, stomach to back. He grabs things and puts them in his mouth when they are dangling. He doesn't stand really well with support, we keep trying, but he just isn't interested. He can sit up if you hold him, but forget doing it alone. He's not even close, even with something behind him. He is however very "talkative." He coos, babbles and shrieks. Right now, his big thing is the "ma ma ma ma ma ma ma." He also LOVES to screetch. He has got some lungs on him.

{b} - So cute!

2Jacks&Me- I would pay for DS to sleep 10hrs, the max he sleeps is 6 hrs and then wakes up to eat.

LMC - Seems like September was full of full lung babies, I always knew M was like that, but the other day at the gym the ladies at the daycare told me the same... I hope this doesn't mean that we have a 'tandrum todler' in our hands.

Naps- How is everybody handeling nap time with their babies? I know at their age they should be taking at least three naps a day, M is awful at naping during the day, it is a hit or miss thing. I am wondering if I should put him in his crib three times a day and see if that sets a nap routine. DOes anyone know how often should they be sleeping? (mid-morning, mid-afternoon....???)

MSH

DS usually STTN (is currently teething and has been waking once sometimes twice) and takes 3 naps. He usually goes down around 9:30pm for the night and gets up at 8am, then naps from 9:30-11:30ish, 2-4:30ish and 6-7ish. He pretty much set the routine himself. He naps the best in his swig but will also nap in his crib. We just put him down when he has been up about 3 hours and he will lay there and watch his mobile, when it shuts off he is out shortly after.

We have our 4 month WBV this afternoon, can't wait to see what he weighs as we are both fairly certain he's up quite a bit. Was *this* close to rolling from from back to front two days ago, just couldn't get his arm out from under him.

Leo naps quite well at daycare, not so well at home. :( He has to nurse to nap at home. Gotta work on breaking that habit!

He rolled over from front to back yesterday! He had rolled over from back to front a month or so ago and was very frustrated that he couldn't right himself. Anyway, I put him on his tummy yesterday and he rolled over. Screamed bloody murder while doing it, though! :o

Amelia naps well at daycare, too. She took a four hour nap there the other day! Fortunately, she still slept well that night. I almost think it's helped a lot to fall asleep on her own, though I think she prefers to nurse and fall asleep in my arms. (At least I like to think so!)

She takes a nap in the morning, one about mid-day, another in the afternoon, and usually she'll doze off in the evening from about 6-7.

naps - A only has 2 naps a day but they are fairly long. She wakes up around 7:30/8:00 and goes down around 9:30am-11:00am. She's up until 2 and then sleeps from 2:30-5:30 or even 6! She goes to bed around 7:30pm and sleeps until the following morning. It works out well for both of us since DS goes down at 2:30 also - which is mommy's free time!

naps Steven still has no predictable schedule other than he needs a nap 2 hours after he wakes up from the last one. His time to wake up in the morning is pretty variable, so I really can't count on when he'll be asleep during the day. He naps much better for me than he does for the nanny, but I'm pretty diligent about getting him to sleep every 2 hours. For the past 4 days or so, he was taking 2 3-hour naps. Today for the nanny he only took 1, and it was less than 2 hours.

Lauren is usually up for the day around 11 (I work full time, nights, so a late morning routine is a must for us) and back down for a nap around 1ish. That seems to be a 45 minute nap (if I'm lucky!) and then up till 4 or so. Back down around 5:30ish, then not back to sleep till about 9:30. She is usually up right around 11 p.m. for a little "topping off/tanking up" and sleeps till 3:30, then back to bed till 6:60/7, then up to nurse at 9:30 and up for the day around 11. She has dropped the 3:30 feeding a few times, and it's HEAVEN!

napping

Hmmm I am really bad at keeping a record of a schedule if we even have one.

I know Eliza is up between 5and 7 usually and she will go back down after a feeding if no one else is up. Then a nap around 10 am or two hours after being up. That can be 30mins to two hours. After that I lose track!

2 jacks, I am CONSTANTLY HUNGRY too and its really annoying! I try and eat healthy, and I WAS loosing weight because I was getting out and walking etc everyday, but ever since Christmas we have had snow every weekend (I live in Denver) which then starts to melt and turns to ICE and then it snows again ARGH! 7 weekends in a row so far! And yes the next storm is coming in on Thursday staying thru Sunday! GEEZE And I have to be in my sisters wedding in April and my own in August! I REALLY want to loose weight but I am having a heck of a time being stuck inside with a bumble all day!

Sleeping patterns, Cameron goes to bed around 8-9ish sleeps til either 1 or 3 (nope he doesnt get up at 2 weird huh?) nurses goes back down til 6ish nurses and then goes back to sleep til about 7:30-8 he takes a nap around 11 pm for only like 20 minutes and then another 20 min nap around 2 and then again around 4 and thats it

I am going to Az with DD in 2weeks- that should kill my self esteem and help!!

E's schedule is still almost completely self-directed and can be pretty hit or miss. If she isn't up by 9am, then I wake her. Sometimes she's up at 7:30am, though, which is also fine for me. She goes down for a nap about 2 hours after waking, and then sleeps between 20 min and 2 hours. Generally if it's been more than 4 hours between feedings, I wake her. She usually eats every 2.5 - 4 hours, depending on her napping and her whims, about 6 times a day.

She's started occasionally skipping her last feeding of the day, but I don't mind one way or another. She's usually asleep between 9pm and 11pm. Surprisingly, her bedtime doesn't seem to affect her wake up time. We've had 12 hour sleeps and 8 hour sleeps. Like I said, I don't mind either way. I figure a 4 month old who consistently sleeps through night is a blessing about which I can't complain.

sitting - how are your babies doing with this? Allison is 5 months and week and while she sits great in our lab or her Bumbo, she can't sit well when supported by pillows and the Boppy. Reason why is because whenever she gets in the sitting position she bends her whole body over to grab her foot and tries to put her toes in her mouth. Or shoes...or socks...whatever is there. She is foot obsessed!!!

sleeping - Also we have regressed in our sleeping. A few weeks ago she got her first cold (while on a family vacation to Disneyland, lucky us). So she started waking up at night again and fussying until she gets fed. Now that she's better it hasn't gone back to normal, she still gets up 2x a night now. I would think a growth spurt should be finished by now...almost 4 weeks. She had been sleeping 13 hours straight so I know she's capable of it.

speaking of traveling with baby- I need some nursing tops- anyone liking any and for cheapish ?

They aren't the cheapest, but by far, my FAVORITE nursing tops (I wear them EVERY day...haven't worn a regular bra in a while) are the Bravado. I am a 38/40 D, and these are supportive (without being super tight around the band), and don't give you the "uni-boob" look. So, while they are pretty pricey...way better than all the money I have spent on a bazillion other brands (hey, if you are my size, you can have them all, LOL!)

DS Update: at his 4 month WBV, he was 26 1/2" and 16lb 2oz (meaning, he outgrew the bucket, and is in a convertible seat.) He is generally a laid-back baby (his older sister is much more of a "go-getter" than he is.) Tummy time - he just lays there, happy. Though, now he rolls all over the floor. Sitting up - we keep working on it, but like someone else mentioned, he goes straight for the toes. Funny thing is that is how my DD learned to actually sit up on her own...trying to get her toes in her mouth.

Here are pictures of DS:

I have to agree with Koala_Gurl, I LOVE my Bravados and wear them all the time. The only thing is they aren't terribly long, so if you have a long torse like I you want to be careful when washing.

Teething, we are full fledged teething in this house. DS has two teeth coming in at the moment and gets rather fussy around bed time ... anyone else? What have you been doing to help your little ones with the discomfort.

I have three bravado bras from DS. I wear them a ton. BUT after roughly 6 mos of use with DS, the elastic rolls and is annoying.
But how about nursing shirts?

MSH
02-12-2007, 11:11 AM
I bought one nursing top which was alright. I bought it was we were going on a plane and I wanted something discrete as it is close quarters. It had zippers to undo each side and a privacy panel. All of those features were great ... but the holes in the privacy panel weren't where they needed to be and not big enough to allow DS to latch So I would wind up with a wet shirt. So on the plane ride home we switched to a Bravado nursing top (not the bra) and a button down shirt.

2Jacks&Me

Did not know Bravado had nursing tops! I misread! Hmmm.. good to know!

I was wearing a nursing bra with a separate tank under a reg shirt if I didn't have a nursing tank on. Becasue when you are a 38 F those tanks are fine for the sloppy look, but I need more uplift to look normal!

You guys would laugh. The mom I see every sunday in the nursing lounge at church basically had to disrobe. She wore a jumper because she didn't want to iron. I was like- " Now you know why you see me in the same things over and over- nursing convienience and discreetness takes priority over fashion!

Pretty much my wardrobe is a Bravado tank under whatever shirt. If I need to NIP, I can lift up the shirt, and open the tank. Very little exposure that way! :)

I actually need to go buy another or two...I was the 40D, but now I think I need something a bit smaller.

Got a question for you ladies, how many of you have bumbo seats or pods? We never got one with the other kids because they both sat by 5 or 6 months. But Theodore is a whole different story. He is going to be 6 months on the 28 and he can sit if he is propped up, but falls over if you let go. My husband thinks they are a "waste of money" but what do they know, right? :p ;) So, I thought I'd ask for some opinions of those that have them!

Here is a new picture of Theodore and my other son Timothy from about a week ago(see how Theodore is falling over?):

dana CUTE! I thought I could get around to a Valentine pic, but I never did!
KNOCK MAJOR WOOD- that sounded pervy- but no sick family yet! I did major hand washing , and anitbac gel! I hope it worked. I still nursed Ellie and I hope that helped her out of the woods. I think it could still be lurking, but I got sick in the middle of the night monday and I hope they would have some symptoms by now.

sleeping Ellie wok at 2:30am monday and 3am tues and that was it. I have sworn I hear her crying in the night- but she isn't.I lay there wide eyed for toooo long then check and the girl is out.

But this happened about two months ago too, a few nights of wake-ups then it was gone again.
But we failed miserably with DS and sleep training. I don't want to be a slave anymore. I want to put the girl down awake. With nursing that is a challenge. But she usually doesn't go down until between 9-10. My mom was here last night and Ellie was looking sleepy about 7, mom wanted me to put her to bed, even though I knew she wasn't ready for the Final bedtime, I did it and she cried for A LONG time with no sleeping. She went down for good at her reg time. Why do we get all " second - guessy" about our methods when people get in our business?

BUt DS still sleeps with us and has to be laid down with to sleep. That is old. I need help but since he is 2 1/2 that is so difficult now. and He and Ellie will have to share a room.
Nanny 911 had a scenario like that in it tonight, but I missed it.

I meanly told him to shut up, then I cried myself over the fact that I actually did that. My mom ( very sweet lady) said " Do you remember me throwing your doll down the stairs when you were 2? Well we all feel that way, but we just can't act on it." So hopefully he will forget it (like I did) and I will take a breather and regain my common sense next time. But tossing him out on the street sounds logical at times , right:rolleyes:

Add me to the list of mommies who wears a nursing tank (Bravado or Leading Lady) everyday. I love those tanks and I'm glad they have built-in support because I haven't worn a regular bra in SO long, lol.

Got a question for you ladies, how many of you have bumbo seats or pods?

We got a Bumbo for Kai at Christmas and he seems to like sitting in it. We mostly use it for feedings. By the way, he has two teeth on the bottom row. He's also been wearing his 6-9 month clothes for a few weeks now. Where has my little newborn gone??? :)

ETA: I'm not caught up so forgive me if this has been discussed, but has anyone installed safety gates? We're going to install one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom. Hopefully we'll find one tall enough to keep the cat from coming upstairs at night.

We have the safety first swinging baby gates. We knew we'd need them for E, and having them makes limiting the doggy-damage easier, so we installed them a while ago. They're holding up well, and puppy is not gentle when she wants to be on the other side of the gate!

Braeden loves sitting in his bumbo and watching us eat. He can sit for a couple of minutes unsupported but not for a long time.

cosmic
B just started crawling on his back all the way across the room so baby safety gates are definitely something we are going to have to do soon.

Nursing tanks
Add me to the list as well. Though I just wear some cheap $11 thing from TARGET.

It appears Braeden's lost his tongue thrust so I feel comfortable starting him on solids in the next week or two.

On Valentine's day he said his first word-dada. I'm thrilled but hopeful he says mama soon.

We got our Bumbo and Theodore LOVES it!! And it looks like I need to hurry up and babyproof because Theodore can now scootch himself around the room. He was trying to lift his tooshie up the other day and it only lasted about 2 seconds, but he definitely got it off the floor. I think it's only a matter of time before he gets up on all fours!

Claire had her 6-month doctor's visit and shots yesterday. She's doing well and weighing 13 lbs 12.5 oz!!! YEAHHH!! I guess she's small compared to some of the other babies in this thread, but she's growing steadily. The doctor seemed happy with how she is progressing. She has been eating solids for about month now...sweet potatoes, squash, carrots and green beans. I am going to try peas this weekend, then next week I will start her on fruits.

I'm still pumping exclusively. My milk supply is still good. My initial goal was to pump for 6 months...now my new goal is to pump for a year. At the very least maybe 9 months. By that time hopefully I'll have at least 3 months of frozen milk stashed away. Hope I continue to have a good supply. Claire is starting to sit up on her own...but only for about 10 seconds or so then she'll fall over. My doctor said to sit her up in the boppy until her back muscles are strong enough. So I did it last night and she sat there for over an hour!! She was loving it and when she would lose her balance all she had to do was hold on to the sides of the boppy to push herself back up.

My babygirl last night sitting up like a big girl...

Checking in as I havent been around for a while. I read but dont seem to have the time to post much.

Cameron will be 6 months on the 27th! And he Got his first tooth last night! It was a real long weekend with mr. cranky pants and yesterday was just plain sad, he was sooo tired and in so much pain and would look at me an cry out in pain. But this morning he awoke and the tooth and broken thru! YAY!!!! he took a 90 minute nap this morning and is a happy boy once again. We have started feeding him solids, he kept grabbing my plate and gets irritated when we were eating as he watched us, so we decided what the heck. I have a happy baby food grinder and I just grind up stuff now from my dinner plate. we started a few weeks back with fruit then some vegis (he likes sweet potato with cinnamon) and then he HAD to have some garlic mashed potatos last weekend! LOL! Well its all down hill now! He really liked turkey meatloaf and carrots the other night. And if its just plain strained stuff its a no go, he wants FLAVOR DANGIT! LOL! Such a silly bumble

Hi ladies!

I know I don't post often, but I want to try to jump in. Alexandra is doing great, but she is so tiny. She only weighs 11.3 pounds at 5 months old. She is 25 inches long, but is just a skinny little thing. I am so worried that she is not gaining enough. I was exclusively breastfeeding, but I added an extra bottle of formula and baby food each day to try to get her to catch up. She is still wearing 0-3 clothes. I am worried about my supply, I don't get very much when I pump at work (4 ounces every 4 hours). But she seems happy and full when she eats, she hardly ever fusses so, I don't know

Eliza had her 6mos wbv yesterday... She is a whopping 20 lbs 4 oz! She could be two babies! But she is slimming down if you can call it that- at 4 mos she was off the charts in everything, but now in height she is 95th and weight 90th.
She is finally getting those lower incisors in and that little tongue keeps feeling them- it is cute/funny, but she is not so happy. And mommy is feeling them scrape on occasion- not too cute or funny.

Drive By post, too!

Amelia is sitting unassisted, laughing, smiling, grabbing, pulling, and eating cereal everyday. She was 17 pounds at a ped. visit last week. No teeth yet, but she loves to chew on anything. She's had about three colds and one small ear infection. All of that is gone now and she's back to sleeping through the night!

feeding sched

I think this is sort of out of the ordinary, but it is working for us. Eliza nurses when she wakes (she does this first, because I can't make it long enough to give her cereal!) 1-1 1/2 hours later she has cereal with fruit in it about 3 oz worth total give or take. nap
nurse every 3 hours then a veggie and fruit (1foods) around dinner 4-6pm and nurse at will till bed at 8-9pm
we just started 2nd foods but I am still giving her the same amounts, not the whole containers worth.

Wow it is quiet in here. Both my kids are sleeping- well Eliza isn't, but she is in her crib, so I have a few moments to myself to flip laundry and have a snack!
We went to a water park thursday and man is that ever a ton of work! My mom goes 4 times a year to a seminar always held in WI Dells. So she was ther and me and the kids drove up thursday afternoon, and DH met us there Fri morn. So DS loved it and it was good to have a change of scenery, but I am exhausted just from the packing, unpacking, driving, hushing babies and not to mention junk food! We spent most of our time in the wave pool and lazy river. I would do it again, but I would rather get there early in the day so that we can do our hour or so of water fun, eat normally sleep normally then get up in the morn, have breakfast and let the kids nap on the drive home. Better go get the baby- no sleep I guess!

There's a lot new going on here. Lily has been sitting up by herself for a few weeks and is now obsessed with trying to pull herself up to a standing position. She's also starting to attempt to crawl. She still isn't a fan of rolling though and it's driving me crazy. She's done it a few times but doesn't do it on a regular basis. Her ped said we could put her to sleep on her tummy once she's rolling but I don't feel comfortable doing that until she's got it down pat. Her two lower front teeth have popped in too. All this happened while the ILs were visiting a few weeks ago which made them very happy.

We've also started feeding her rice cereal twice a day and will start other solids in a few weeks. She'd better like vegetables since I'm a vegetarian. :)

Does anyone else have a kid who poops when put in their exersaucer? Lily poops every.single.time we put her in there. DH had been calling the saucer 'Play Island' but it's been officially renamed 'Poop Island.' It's actually been rather handy - whenever we want to go out, we put here in there for five minutes to get the poop out at home so we don't have to worry about a poopy diaper while out and about. :)

Claire started daycare last week. She's only going 3 days per week and possibly 4 days depending on her daddy's schedule. The week went surprisingly well. The first two days I went to see her during my lunch break (I work only 5 minutes away from the daycare). The ladies in the baby room raved about what a good baby she is! :) It has definitely been an adjustment getting things together the night before and waking up at the crack of dawn so I can get out of the house by 6:15!!! Having my mom here SERIOUSLY spoiled me!!

This weekend SIL and I (and Claire) went to a wedding. It was nice but a little odd. They didn't even repeat any vows or say their I Do's! How weird is that?? Sunday after church we went to a birthday lunch for a friend, then Claire and I and one of my friends went to the mall.

Tuesday rolls around and guess what...Claire is sick!!!!!!! :( She doesn't have a fever or anything but she is congested and coughing and sneezing. Poor baby!! She didn't really seem too bothered by it...I think I'm more upset than she is! This morning she sounded horrible, but she was just smiling and grinning as much as usual. DH took her to the doctor today and she prescribed some type of medicine that contains an antihistamine and decongestant. I'll have to get full details from him when I get home.

Bunny has a cold, too. It doesn't seem to bother her much, but Daddy & I are a little repelled by the amount of goo coming from her nose. Yech!

In other, "Wow! I'm a bad mommmy!" news, I was pumping Sunday afternoon when Bunny scooted off the bed and landed on the floor - almost gave me a heart attack. She was fine, but I learned my lesson. Just because she refuses to roll from front to back doesn't mean that she can't hurt herself. She pushed with her feet and pulled with her head and managed to move.

I'm glad she's ok.

A similar thing happened to me last night. I put DD on the twin bed in her room, sitting up but at the far side of the bed, next to the wall. I walked over to her crib to get her swaddle blanket and before I could turn around, I heard a *thunk*. She somehow had propelled herself across the width of the bed and on to the floor. I still don't know how she moved that far, that fast but I learned my lesson about leaving her unattended, even for a second.:o

Wow!!
So much going on with all of your kiddos! I can't believe how fast they are all changing.

Theo still is not sitting on his own, but he is srutching (my daughter's word, it's sort of a scootch and a crawl, just not completely up on all fours) all over the floor and rolling to get what he wants. He is playing with toys and now has 6 teeth (4 bottom, 2 top.) He eats 3 level 2 jars of food a day and 3-4 8 oz bottles of formula in addition to whatever we give him to "gnaw" on (pretzels, teether biscuits, etc.) His hair is finally growing in, so he doesn't look like a baldy and it appears he is keeping the blue eyes. This will be interesting trying to explain to everyone how myself, and my other two children have brown eyes and my husband has hazel eyes, but Theo has blue ones! He plays with the other kids now, laughing and growling with them. He says mama, dada and hi. I just, I still get overwhelmed thinking how quickly my baby is growing. I think it would be even more solid if he was sitting on his own.

DD turned 6 months on Tuesday.

She is still EBF and I'm pumping at work. She has her two front bottom teeth, and rolls easily from back to belly. She can't seem to do belly to back - she did it a couple times a month ago and never again. In the past two days her ability to sit well assisted and a little bit unassisted has gotten markedly better. She's doing that cute "get up on all fours and rock" thing, but no crawling yet. Just some scooching backwards. She laughs and blows raspberries and grabs everything she can. Sometimes she wakes herself up grabbing at nothing in her sleep. She's never been an "easy" baby or a good sleeper, but we're doing OK. She's never been sick! I've had two colds and she's never had so much as a sniffle.

She's 27 inches long and 15 pounds, 6.5 ounces at her last visit.

I can't believe she's half way to one already!

Allison turned 6 months on the second. On her 6 month b-day we had some rice cereal - she was not impressed. We've had sweet potatoes, applesauce and peas since then and she thinks they are OK. At our 6 month appointment she weighed 16 pounds 11 ounces and was 26 inches long. Her new favorite thing is rolling and screeching. Here are a couple pics, sorry so large - I'll take them down in a day or so.

Hi, ladies! I haven't been around very much, so I just wanted to drop off some quick updates:

*Kai now weighs 16 pounds and 10 ounces.
*He has two teeth in the bottom and two coming in at the top
*He's still Bfing, but can use a sippy cup. (Never could get him to take bottles.)
*He sits up on his own and is scooting around.
*He is enjoying his first solid foods- banana, pear, avocado, and sweet potato. (Breastmilk is still his primary food.)
*He loves storytime.
*He says Da-da. But then, he also says tha-tha and ja-ja.

Better pics next week, but here are a couple of playtime and dinnertime closeups:

- She can sit up on her own but not for not very long
- no teeth yet!

- Like someone mentioned above, she is getting up on all fours and doing that cute rocking thing...but no crawling yet.
- She loves her walker and is learning to get around in it.
- She is becoming increasingly busy...attempting to grab things around her including my jewelry.

QOTD - WHAT DO YOU DRESS YOUR BABY IN AT NIGHT FOR BED?? It is becoming warm here (I live in Louisiana), and I was wondering if I still need to be dressing her warmly (i.e. all in one night clothes)...or is it sufficient to dress her in a short sleeve onesie with no pants. The problem is that she won't stay under a blanket...the girl sleeps WILD!

So Claire is holding her own bottle too? I'm glad my kid isn't the only one! :o Dionysios & I were very surprised when he suddenly grabbed it and knew what to do with it!

Leo will be 6 months old on Monday. His 6 month WBV is 4/2. I did have to take him to the ped's on Friday. He has an ear infection & a viral cold, poor kid. He's doing much better now that he's on Amoxicillin. They did weigh him, though in clothes, and he was... 17 lbs 14 oz! HOLY CANNOLI!!!

I've had to supplement with formula pretty much the whole time that I've been back at work. We switched from Similac Organic (milk-based) to Similac Isomil (soy-based) about a week ago and the decrease in the amount that he spits up is amazing!

He isn't sitting up by himself yet, but does pretty well when sitting on my lap or leaning up against us. He is starting to tripod.

Amelia hit 6 months over the weekend. She is 18 pounds, 1 oz, 27 1/4 inches long, 95% for everything. She's huge! She has no teeth yet, either.

She's been sitting up for a while and loves it. However, she hates to be on her belly for long because it's too hard to hold her big head up. She will grab and pull on anything within reach, (and immediately put it in her mouth) so we have to be careful about what we leave laying around.

I'm pumping enough at work to keep her EBF, and she gets rice cereal once a day. Tried carrots on Saturday and she made funny faces, but wasn't into it.

I guess we're all doing 6 month updates!

Rachel is actually almost 7 months (28th), and I just can't believe it!! She is doing great, and is such a happy little thing! She's been sitting by herself since about 5 months, and has two teeth on the bottom. She is nowhere near STTN, as she still gets up at least 2 times a night to nurse  . Oh well, one of these days........ :) She really likes to eat, but I'm still trying to keep that to a very limited amount. I swear, she would just eat solids all day if I let her  . She now gets 2 small feedings of food each day, mainly veggies, with an occasionaly bit of cereal. I'm making all of her food, so I've been experimenting with rice/ sweet potato/ carrot puree combos, all of which she enjoys. She still nurses about 7-8 times a day.

She is teeny tiny - her 6 month checkup stats: 13lbs, 24". She is 3rd % for weight and 5% for height . She barely even makes it on the charts!! She's a petite little thing for sure, like Mommy and big sis, but happy and healthy as can be.

dionysia - Actually, that the first time Claire held her own bottle, and she hasn't done it since! She's lazy and wants somebody to hold it for her! Spoiled thing! I WISH she would hold her own bottle.

Regarding the sleep sack - Man do I wish I had thought about that sleep sack earlier!!! All winter long I was worried about the fact that Claire wouldn't keep covers on her and it never dawned on me to get her one of those sleep sacks!! Oh well...maybe I can find one on clearance to buy for my friend whose baby is due in Sept.

Forgot to mention...Claire made 7 months this past weekend.

Hi ladies!

Oliver is also near 7 months (eegads!!!). He too is a tiny little guy- two weeks ago had him at 14 pounds, 5 ounces and 26 inches long. I've consistently freaked out about his falling standing on the growth charts until I realized the doc uses the CDC charts that have formula and solid-eating babies included in the data. He has been exclusively breastfed, and is only just now starting some sweet potatoes and avocados. He is so not thrilled with the latter.

He is super, super active. Has been standing since before 3 months, and prefers to stand. He can sit now, though it doesn't last long because he usually has to lunge towards something just out of reach that he wants. He just got his first tooth, and the drool makes him cough which he thinks is hilarious, so he does it on purpose. The people on the plane last night did not appreciate the constant baby throat clearing, I don't think.

He sleeps about 2 hours at a time. We co-sleep, so I don't often wake up fully when he does, unless he tells me he has to go potty. We're out of diapers most of the day and night now! It's great. I should go update the EC thread.

QOTD: He wears a t-shirt, and nothin' else. But we're toasty in bed together.

Here's a pic or two.

Nighttime apparel - she was wearing footed cotton sleepers but I just bought some two piece footless pjs and switched her to those tonight. The 9 month sleepers were getting too short  and I've been unable to find any in a 12 month size. She's still swaddled as well since our attempts at not swaddling results in a baby that won't sleep.

Lily has been eating rice cereal and oatmeal for a while now but our ped wanted us to hold off on anything else until six months. Since she'll be six months in less than a week, we decided to try peas tonight. They were not a hit. She took one bite, made a face that said 'what the heck did you put in my mouth' then refused to open for another bite. I even made some rice cereal after giving up on the peas and she wouldn't open up for that either. I guess I should have tried something sweeter like squash or sweet pototoes first.:)

If you aren't opposed to Disney stuff...I LOVE their sleepers! (From the Disney Store.) They usually have a great selection of sleepers (I remember with DD, they were one of the few places I could get her sleepers in this size.) They have 2 different weights, a light cotton one, and a heavier fleece. In our neck of the woods, the fleece ones are on clearance (So Cal.)

I LOVE their sleepers. Not sure why, but they just fit my kids the best out of all the ones we have tried.

ETA: DS sleeps in some sort of sleeper (fleece if colder, cotton if warmer...we have been having some 80 - high 90's here for a bit.) In fact, he pretty much lives in them (though now I think it is time for some shorts & onsies.) It has been chilly, and he won't keep on a sock for more than a few minutes, so footed sleepers have been great.

Koala_Gurl - thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, no Disney stuff is currently allowed to enter our house. :( DH has not adjusted very well to our move out of L.A. or leaving his job at Disney and I think looking at Mickey Mouse all day on DDs pjs might send him over the edge.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Wow 7mos already! Eliza hit the big 7mos yesterday. She was 20lbs 4 oz at her 6mos WBV, so I know she is bigger now, but she slid down the charts a little bit, now she is on it - was off before!!
She is sitting for short stints and began sucking her thumb. We have three lower front teeth and working on the fourth. She has begun eating a fruit of veggie for lunch now- so we are doing 3 meals and nursing first, then 3 extra nursings between.

dana Thank - you! I just think we all have the sweetest babies on the planet!! Don't you all agree!

jammies I second the Children's place cotton- I like the zippers, but I have found that from 24 months they go straight to 3t and that is a big size difference since that is right where DS is at and those jammies just are so long.
Plus the fleece version is a lot more roomy, since the cotton relies on a snug fit to be flame resistant. The outlet has GREAT deals!

OK - someone is coughing up a lung- I better go see. We have had this strange cold lately. Coughs only in sleep and snotty noses in the day- what is that?!

Hi ladies, I read just don't post much. Since Easton is close in age to many on this thread I try to get ideas of what he should be doing or close to doing now.

He is my peanut guy, his 6 month WBV was back on the 6th of March and he weighd 25lbs, 26 1/2" long. He is doing great though. He eats cereal (oatmeal usually) and a fruit for breakfast and then will have a dinner (he likes anything with chicken, doesn't like the beef ones right now, likes ham and pineapple and stands turkey dinners.) and another veggie sometimes along with a little fruit.

He tries to sit up without help and we are working on him grasping toys that are a bit bigger than his hand. We leave for Disney World in 13 days, then go to Disneyland in July (hubby has a conference)

Here are a few pics:

I'll join in the 6 month updates. Steven is still a challenging baby--just when we think we've figured him out, he changes. We tried switching back to soy last week, and life was awful--crying, resisting sleep, refusing to take a bottle. Once back on Alimentum, he was great. Then he got an ear infection, and the antibiotic is upsetting his tummy, so we're back to having a difficult child. He is puzzling b/c he'll go from smiling and laughing to writhing and crying in a 5 minute span.

Anyway, he's sitting briefly by himself and starting to scoot. He likes sweet potatoes and bananas and sometimes applesauce. He really only eats about 1 jar per day, sometimes 2 on a good day. He STTN about 2/3 of the time, otherwise is up once. At his 6 month visit, he was 18# and 27.5 inches, which explains why it hurts my back to have him in the Bjorn in the grocery store already--DD wasn't 18# till 9 months! (She was EBF).

So, life at 6 months is infinitely better than it was for the first 3 months of his life, but there is still room for improvement.

sleepers We use TCP's sleepers, too. I like Carter's PJ's for older babies, but since DS is still too young for a blanket, I like him to be covered from neck down for sleeping. :) Soon we'll have the AC on--it should be on now, it was 81 here today!

Ericka Congrats! You are a daring girl- but as they say, get the diaper days over with!
Just as an aside, my girlfriend had her babies roughly as close together as yours and mine are 22 months apart and it seemed she had it easier! Think of how great of friends they will be! I already beginning to mourn the fact that I may not have baby days ever again. You go girl!
BTW- what hair your little guy has, DS didn't have his first haircut until he was almost 2 and Eliza has a few long wisps on top that I try to put a clippy bow in!

Thanks 2Jacks. We weren't trying, was a shock, but a happy one just the same. We are thrilled. Will most likely be my last pregnancy, as long as all stays well. I have been pregnant now 3 times in 4 yrs. Plus I will be 33 come April. I wouldn't trade it for anything though, I love my little guy so much, and ready to see this little one come the 18th.

People always comment on his hair. He was born with that much, of course was just a bit shorter at the time. We are holding off on a haircut though, since its mostly just long on the top not the sides or back, besides as soon as he gets a haircut he will look like a little boy, want to keep the baby look for a bit longer still.

Congrats Ericka!!

6 month update..
Conor was 17lbs 8 oz and 29 1/2 inches long at his WBV last week. He too can be a demanding baby. He was getting up a few times in the night. We started letting him c.i.o. and now he only gets up at 4 am for a bottle. Although last night he actually sttn for us :D
He's still on Nutramigen and hates anything solid. I would love to say that he eats a jar a day but that's a lie. It's more like a jar every 3 days. He's brutal to feed solids to.
We use TCP jammies as well. I went to the Carters outlet last week and got a few one piece jammies for $8. Our house gets cold with the air on so I like to keep him covered. We also use sleep sacks instead of blankets.
jbemommy ~ I have a $7 alimentum coupon you are more than welcome to have. Just let me know.

Thanks for all the sleeper suggestions. I'll have to check out the Children's Place.

dana - I read the Star News online once in a while and can't believe what's going on in Pasadena. I'm glad we moved because we lived on the 'wrong' side of Lake and I think it may have gotten scarier over there.

We tried sweet pototoes yesterday and she hated those more than the peas. Not only did she make a face this time, but she shook her entire body in disgust. And again, she wouldn't trust me to give her some cereal after that. Any suggestions on what to offer next, something completely foolproof that every kid likes?

Here's a recent photo of Lily. Thanks to another thread suggesting toys for 6+ months, we went out and bought this and she LOVES it. She's all for anything that lets her stand.

My Easton loves green beans, hates peas and noy interested in Sweet potatoes and not really into carrots (they are too watery, so I had to mix cereal into it) He doesn't mind squash.

Fruits he doesn't like pears, loves bananas and likes applesauce and peaches.

I can barely get Allison to eat any solids. She has seemed to boycott all of them. She shudders and makes faces like I'm feeding her poisen. I'm going to give her a break and try again in a few days. This is so different than my other two kids who would gobble down anything I put on the spoon!

They say that it can take up to 10 times for a baby to accept a food! Crazy!
Eliza seems to love her cereal the most with a fruit in it. DS definitly was a green bean man and then a broccoli boy!

We took DS to the doc today since he has had a week of just not himself. Eating a nibble here and there , telling me his tummy hurts, vomitting sunday and then monday, and two terrible diaper blow-outs, not to mention the crankies! So she said probably just the flu bug. But it is no fun at all!

I better go to bed- 4 am rolls around very quickly

My poor Claire is still having sinus problems. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic on Monday. Claire is 7.5 months and weights 14 lbs 12 oz. She is in the 12th percentile!!! I know that's tiny, but she seems pretty big to me! Although she looks like a dwarf next to my friend's 9 month old baby who weighs 24 lbs!

BTW! Wow Ericka...congrats on the pregnancy!! Claire may be my first and only baby and I get a little sad thinking that these may be my last baby days. So is Ericka the RO ya'll were talking about?? Or is there another one???? :-)

Bunny turned 6 months yesterday. She weighs almost 19 lbs according to the bathroom scale. She's almost sitting unassisted. She's great if she's propped, until she decides to lunge after something that's caught her eye. Then she goes down - sometimes giggling, sometimes mad as can be. No teeth yet, but she's drooling like a fountain and gnawing on everything she can stick in her mouth.

We can finally start solids next week. Due to allergies in Sweetie's family, we wanted to put it off until she was 6 months. She's clearly ready to try, though. Aside from the developmental signals (no tongue thrust, controlled tongue movement, etc) she's very interested in food. She's adorable when she watches us eat, she leans forward and opens her mouth. I can't wait to put something in it.

Yesterday was a pretty exciting day for us. We went to Mother Goose Time at the local library and met some other mommies and babies. It may be silly, but I was so excited to meet people with small children and babies - it was just about all I talked about with Sweetie last night. Apparently, the really *good* MGT is at a different local library, but they only run every other week, so my local library is a good 'fallback' outing. Who knew?

Also, I ordered "Mommy Cards" from Vista Print - like business cards but for mommies. They're free right now, and I figured what the heck, they might be handy for trading info while babies are demanding attention. I'll report back with feedback. :-)

Anyway, we're dong well. I'm finally almost back to my pre-baby weight, so I only need to lose another 30 lbs after that. *sigh*

Thanks everyone for the food suggestions. We've tried apple, banana and squash since I last posted. Lily loves the apple. It's finally nice to have found a food she doesn't make a sour face at when eating. The banana and squash she's so-so about.

Edited to add: I bought a jar of lentils and rice as a joke. I'm a vegetarian but DH isn't. We're still discussing how we'll raise Lily but lentils and rice is to me, a quintessential vegetarian meal. We tried it tonight and I figured she'd probably refuse to eat it. I was very wrong - she LOVED it. She wolfed down half a jar which is a ton in one sitting for her. What kind of kid likes lentils and rice?

Lily can finally roll consistently from back to front and front to back and can push herself into a sitting position from her tummy. I also discovered last night that she can 1) break out of her swaddle, 2) roll from back to tummy, 3) push herself into a seated position and 4) pull herself up on the crib slats to a standing position. She still apparently doesn't feel comfortable getting down though so after her 3am wake up last night, she was up for two hours repeating this exercise and waking mommy when she wanted back down. :( I'm hoping the newness of this nighttime fun wears off quickly. This kid has only STTN twice in over six and half months and I think she wasn't feeling well both times that happened.

2jacks I agree, she is a cutie!!!

Dorothy I have to e-mail you, we must get together soon.

Lars- Maybe your daughter is onto something. think all babies should be vegetatian, those jarred meats smell gross. I won't feed them to my kids.

I have not been in here for ages, glad to see so many of you are still posting.

Owen is great, he sits completley unassisted, is still mainly on a liguid diet but he eats 3 meals a day of stage 2 baby foods. He also loves Gerber Veggie puffs & just yesterday we introduced watermelon in the baby safe feeder. To say he loved it is an understatment, he sucked the life out of 6 chunks of watermelon. He does STTN and takes 2 predictable naps a day, but only since we did Ferber CIO about a month ago.

DH just called me at work - Lily is officially crawling! She's been going backwards for a week or so and been able to move forward a foot or two before falling on her tummy but this morning she apparently crawled across the room to get to her Leap Frog table! The dogs and cat had better watch out now.

My parents arrive for a visit on Saturday so I'm thrilled they'll be able to see her crawling. I'm also happy Mom will be able to help out with babyproofing and watching her next week. :)

Mine! DS loves Earth's Best's peas and brown rice, as well as EB's garden vegetables. I'm not even considering giving him meat until he's a year old. (BTW, I was a vegetarian not so long ago, too... ;) )

It's official: Kai's crawling! He's so darn active we knew it was just a matter of tiime. But he likes pulling himself up even better. We have to watch him every. single. minute. unless he's playing with toys in his crib.
Also, DS is now cutting his 5th and 6th teeth.

mommy2AlliWill - Owen is a cutey! I love his red hair.

Even if Lily does eat meat in the long term, I won't be buying the meat in a jar. My cat had a cold once, couldn't smell anything and because of it refused to eat. So, the vet told me to give him meat baby food since the smell is even stronger than canned cat food. I already thought canned cat food smelled about as repulsive as it gets but I was wrong.

cosmic - Love the photos of Kai, especially the one where he's wearing the hat. There's something too cute about babies in hats.

Ah, yes, peas and brown rice. We tried that as her first food after rice and oatmeal. This was her reaction:

http://web.mac.com/mfearing/iWeb/Pics/March2_files/DSC00862.jpg

We will however be trying that again since I make curried peas and potatoes often so she's going to have to learn to like peas. :p

Cameron didnt like lentils but he eats rice and beans and well, anything I put in the happy baby food grinder! I dont do jarred baby food other than fruits. He LOVES sweet potato and acorn squash and has no problem with peas and carrots (Mixed only). He likes oatmeal. peaches and pears alot but I think he has a small allergy to peaches, he has gotten a small rash on his cheeks every time he eats them so no more peaches for a while.... the other day I had made chili (not really spicy but some spice) and I tried to give cameron some squash instead and he wouldnt hear of it! He ATE THE CHILI! He loved it! Go figure! LOL! My little sisters first food was vegi enchiladas, so I guess spicy food babys runs in the family! LOL!

Lily & Kai are adorable and crawling already too, we are so not ready for that.

Aletheia & Lars- thank you! Yes, Owen has very red hair. We can't go to the mall without all the older ladies flirting with him & commenting on how you can't get the color from a bottle. I think it is special since my Dad, who passed away, was a redhead.

Rosegarden- I love my baby food grinder too. I have not given O any meat yet, but that is exactly how we do it. Grind up whatever the rest of us are having for dinner so he can try it. Our ped has always advised us that any spice (except salt) is good & my kids have developed a hot & spicy appetite too.

I did realize that we need to lower the crib mattress after some babies in here are PULLING UP TO STAND!

I'm glad we lowered the crib when we did per MILs suggestion - I had no idea that Lily could even roll over until I found her standing in her crib that first time!!! I'd only seen her roll a few times and she'd never rolled from back to front when we played on the floor. So it was a huge surprise to find her standing there. I knew she could push up to seated from her tummy and pull herself up from there but figured if I put her on her back to sleep, she couldn't roll to her tummy. I was wrong. I'm glad now that we lowered the crib before I thought we really needed to.

We're learning that crawling seems to simply be a means to an end for Lily - she's crawling just far enough to find something to pull up on.

oh yeah- I totally have to get on that!

I have had a heck of a week. A full week off of work and it was spent with me and DS sick the whole time. Yucky colds that are making him so irritable and DH has been gone a ton at night. I have that desert throat and am losing my voice too!
But today we took the kids to the Betty Brinn museum- an interactive play place. My bro and his girlfriend came and it was fun. It wore us all out.
They even have a little "grass" area for infants and pre-walkers. It is all padded with cushy blocks to play with.
Eliza wouldn't nurse there so she went from 8am until 2pm without nursing! I almost didn't make it- she seemed to do just fine though.

My dad missed out on the fun- so we are going again next friday.

I am also into making hairbows for girls now- they are great- I will take a few pics to show you guys- but since I couldn't find what I wanted out there i thought to make my own.
It is fun to have a hobby and one that can me a completed project rather short term.
any ROs got tantrum advice?
DS 2 1/2, wakes up 75 % of the time crabby! I mean very crabby and although he has been sick lately- he winds up just screaming and screaming and i don't know what to do. He gets hysterical and it is so reminding me of his colicky days. Yesterday I just picked him up and carrie dhim outside and he promptly calmed down- until we went back in.

So Cameron has had a cold for going on week three now, its almost gone THANK GOODNESS!!!! But he has been so grumpy and now his sleep pattern in all messed up! He wakes screaming now, which he never did before and he wakes every hour from 1 or 2 am on until we get up at 630ish and he thinks Im a human pacifier (we co sleep but I need to change this, my husband has requested his wife back in his bed...) I dont know what to do! He is driving me batty with his whining (the baby not DH! LOL) and he doesnt want to take naps anymore either! UGH!!! What happened to my happy baby who used to sleep so well???? Any suggestions?

2Jacks - I either give DD (2 yo) a time-out or just ignore her tantrums. Oh, sometimes they go on for a bit, but she is definitely learning that whining / tantrums don't work. I'll even make sure to play with DS even more during that time.

DS - Quick update on him...he is 7 months old, and just the complete opposite of my DD. It is hard to compare, but I certain
