I heard they are announcing the teams for the all star season tomorrow on The Early Show! Time to set the TiVo!!

One one site, they said that no previous winners participated in the upcoming season, but then I found this list of potential teams:

Bill and Joe (Team Guido) from the Amazing Race 1

Kevin and Drew (Fraternity Brothers) from the Amazing Race 1

Oswald and Danny (Team Cha Cha Cha) from the Amazing Race 2

Teri and Ian (Married Parents) from the Amazing Race 3

John Vito and Jill (Dating) from the Amazing Race 3

Tian and Jaree (Friends/Models) from the Amazing Race 4

Charla and Mirna (Cousins) from the Amazing Race 5

Kris and Jon (Dating Long Distance) from the Amazing Race 6

Rob and Amber (Engaged Couple) from the Amazing Race 7

Joyce and Uchenna (Married Couple) from the Amazing Race 7

Eric and Danielle were both on the Amazing Race 9, but not on the same team. Eric was one of The Frat Boys and Danielle was Childhood Friends with Dani

Dustin and Kandice (Beauty Queens) from the Amazing Race 10

David and Mary (Coalminer and Wife) from the Amazing Race 10

They just showed a blurred out pic of the participants on CBS. Mirna and Charla are definitely there...LOL They were the only ones I could definiely pick out of hte lineup for obvious reasons. I liked Charla, but Mirna was a total bitch last time...

Yay! I 've been waiting to hear an official announcement. I'll have to set my DVR. I'm okay with most of those teams. I'm kind of bummed that the hippies aren't going to be there though. They were so entertaining! Regardless, it will be fun to see an all-star season!

So they actually hooked up... should be interesting.

Ditto! They are my favorite team ever!!! :D

I also loved Danny & Oswald, so it would be way cool if they are included. Jon Vito and Jill were awesome, too. So sweet.

I could do without Bill & Joe. They were such assholes on their season. But I suppose someone will have to be the team everyone loves to hate. ;) :)

Wouldn't that be Rob and Amber? ;)

Love the Frat Boys and Team Cha Cha Cha.

I just realized that list might not be up to date as for the teams. Notice how it says Rob and Amber are engaged, and I heard that Jon Vito and Jill had broken up. If JV and Jill are there, I am rooting for them. They were great!

Yeah - I am not sure how accurate that list of potential teams is. It was found on a newspaper website - nothing affiliated with CBS so take it with a grain of salt. Tomorrow morning we will know the teams for sure!

Drew and Kevin (season 1)
Bill and Joe (season 1)
Oswald and Danny (season 2)
Teri and Ian (season 3)
John and Jill (season 3)
Charla and Mirna (season 5)
Amber and Rob (season 7)
Uchenna and Joyce (season 7)
Eric and Danielle (season 9)
David and Mary (season 10)
Dustin and Kandice (season 10)

:( No Kris and Jon. Bummer! I really hoped they would be on the show. I loved them!

Yeah - I am bummed that Kris and Jon aren't there. I will definitely be rooting for Joyce and Uchenna, Kevin and Drew, and Danny and Oswald. I think I will be happy if anyone EXCEPT Rob and Amber, Terri and Ian, or Charla and Mirna win.

I'm okay with all of the teams except that I am not a Romber fan and I'm not a huge fan of the Guidos either. In my opinion, Rombers 15 minutes should have been up a long time ago. The Guidos just did not impress me. I thought that they were kind of mean at times during their season. Other than that, go everybody else!!!!

I can't wait for the new season to start!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

What a bummer that Kris & Jon aren't in it! :(

I could definitely do without Rob & Amber. I don't dislike them, really, but they are so painfully overexposed. I wish they had not included Mary & David, too. They are nice, but such horrible competitors.

I'll probably be pulling for Kandice & Dustin (it would be awesome for a female team to finally win), Danny & Oswald, and John & Jill.

SiValleySteph
01-17-2007, 12:23 PM
I think I'm going to need pictures to remember everyone. Well, actually, they all sound familiar except John & Jill.

I'm in the minority, but I always liked Romber. I think the Guidos will add entertainment. I loved team-Cha-Cha-Cha.

Will Terri & Ian be sporting the fanny pack this time around? :p

My least favorite team is probably Mirna & Charla.

It's seems about like most races - two minority teams. Isn't that about all they ever have? Then two gay teams (although one already got counted as a minority), one little person, one economically disadvanaged team (coalminers), etc...

How are we counting diversity?

Article in Entertainment Weekly on TAR 11:

When deciding on the teams, we heard that the Hippies (from season 9) were very angry they weren't asked to be on. When you put out word about this, were you flooded with old teams wanting to get on?
There were people that were sending us e-mails constantly and wanting to be on, but the reality is we had over 200 contestants over the years on this show. All these people have been chosen at one point because we liked them very much, so it was difficult for us to make these choices. But this is what we came up with, and we are all very happy with it. If the Hippies aren't happy with it, there's not much I can do about it. I don't know why they would be unhappy. They won once and we paid them a million dollars.
How long did the season 10 folks — David and Mary, and Dustin and Kandice — have between the two races?
Two or three months.

Did you repeat countries or challenges? The all-star Survivor went back to some favorite challenges.
No. With all great respect to Survivor, I don't take their lead on this one. Our show is global. We go everywhere, so I have a tremendous advantage over coming up with really original ideas in the chaos of the world we know now. So as [people's physical ability] goes down, the mental goes down too, and then you end up with an equal playing field. We went to the southern tip of Chile; we went to Mozambique, where not only do people not speak English, they don't want to speak English.

Race alumni always become friends. One of the teams, Eric and Danielle, actually fell in love on season 9's race.
We watched them fall in love on a plane from Sao Paolo to Germany. It was pretty obvious. [This season] some people looked at the other ones as stars, because they had seen them on television and they were really blown away that they could compete with those stars. It was almost surreal for some of those guys.... When they are all in the room together, they're all very nice to each other. But once they're out there on their own, they see the competition and it gets pretty vicious.

Not a fan of the BQ's either but I do hope they stick it to Romber. You know Romber will manipulate anyone in their way (Hello Kentucky). We're just lucky we don't have to see the Cho's naive racing here.:rolleyes:

I was actually rooting for the beauty queens last season.

Being that I haven't been watching TAR since the beginning, I haven't seen many of the teams that will be racing on the All-Stars. But I'm SO NOT looking foward to seeing Rob and Amber again. Get them off the air already!

You all are going to hate this, but I love both the Beauty Queens AND Rob & Amber. :p I really like people who are shrewd about the game, and those teams definitely are. And you have to admit they're always really kind to and supportive of each other, though. You never see Rob yell at Amber or anything like that.

DH and I have a standing TAR date with our friends David & Billy. David and I love Romber, DH and Billy hate them. It's gotten so divisive when we watch the show that once we even went into different rooms to watch it! I can't imagine what All Stars is going to bring up.

Can't wait for Sunday!!

I'm not particularly thrilled with any of the teams other than maybe 2 or 3. It's either because I don't like them or just don't know much about them. So it's like watching a bunch of new teams and I'll just see who grows on me as time goes on.

Can't wait till Sunday.

I only started watching TAR in season 6 or 7--which was the one with the lovely Kris and Jon being beaten out by the odious Freddy and Kendra? Anyway, I'm looking forward to "meeting" some of the teams I've heard so much about, like the Guidos and Cha-Cha-Cha. Based on things I've read on TWOP, I'm inclined to like Cha-Cha-Cha and John Vito and Jill, but I'm rooting for Uchenna and Joyce. Because I really want to see them beat Rob's smug *** again.

So excited about the new season! I think it'll be a good one. I don't know many of the teams b/c I didn't watch the early season of TAR. So far, I really like Oswald & Danny. And I like Uchenna and Joyce, though I'm not sure that former winners should have been allowed back. I'm already annoyed at Mirna & Charla. I'm pretty neutral about Romber. They're annoying and sooo into themselves, but I appreciate that they are good competitors (at least Rob is; Amber just sort of follows along blindly). I think I would hate them in real life and I don't want them to win, but I do enjoy watching them play. I'm excited because we should hopefully see some good competition this time around, which will be a nice change from the lackluster 10th season.

I have always been a huge Amazing Race fan. DH and I have never missed an episode in all the seasons. We watched tonight but I was actually a little disappointed. Why wasn't it a 2 hour episode? It just seemed very "Eh, no big deal." We were so excited about seeing Kevin and Drew race again, and they just seemed so not into it. I was sad to see Jill & JV go. I thought they might be the one team to give Rob & Amber some competition.

I think it's going to be pretty boring watching Rob & Amber come in first on every leg, which is have a feeling is what's going to happen. Other than the beauty queens, I don't see anyone else giving them much competition.

Rosebud: I'm with you on both teams! I think the BQ are almost as cut-throat as Romber. I hope Romber wins it all this time.

Did anyone else think that Teri had a face lift?! She looks nothing like she need in her original appearance of TAR.

JenniferEC

Mirna is just as annoying as last time. I wish she'd stop hitting on every guy racing and Phil. Too bad Charla can't have a different race partner.

As soon as I saw Teri and Ian, I was wondering if they're the ones that race with paper underwear. Weird I know, but that's what I remember about them.

I'm glad Romber came in first and I hope they don't make stupid decisions like searching a field for a button again.

I'm happy to see Mary and David again, but have a feeling they won't last long. They aren't as cut-throat as some of the other teams and I have a feeling will be at the back of the pack until they're gone.

I love the RACE. I HATE that it doesn't come on at a specific time on Sunday nights. Last season it was Football, not it is GOLF. TOTALLY frustrating!

I totally thought that the team that came in 10th (donny and oswald? I didn't watch season one, so I can't remember thier names) I thought they looked DISAPPOINTED that they didn't come in last. Like "ah crap, we have to keep going??" LOL

I don't care for Rob and Amber, but they are the best racers. I am sick of seeing htem win all the prizes though. How STUPID that they were searching the field. And I thought it was totally funny when they were at the airport, on the bus, and the gay guys said, "don't you have your own cable channel..." that cracked me up.

I can NOT stand Charla and Mirna (or whatever their names are) They just totally get to me.

Did you notice Mary's shirt. "Searching for the Cho Brothers" or soemthing. That was funny to me too!

I am looking forward to a more exciting episode next Sunday.

Lemme just say that I was totally SHOCKED when, at the airport, Rob told the shuttle driver to stop and let the other team on (don't remember the names). Honestly, I had to pause the show and collect my thoughts on that before continuing on. And I must say that Amber said more words last night than I've ever heard her say...both on Survivor and TAR. She does speak after all.

Well, the only season I have ever seen of TAR is last season...so I don't know any of the teams besides the BQs and David & Mary. The BQs don't bother me...I think they are good racers. I do not see the appeal of David & Mary. :confused:

I totally jinxed it though...I said I wanted Jill and John Vito to stay on because I loved his name! And then they were the first to be eliminated. Figures. :rolleyes:

Me too. I didn't watch the first two or three episodes, so I'm not as sure of some of the earlier contestants, but so far I'm loving Romber and the Beauty Queens. If I remember correctly, I think the first time J&U raced, their marriage was on the rocks. The race brought them closer. Now I hear they've grown apart (ahh, no! :( ) so they're hoping that the race will bring them closer again. I hope they don't break up!

I don't know who I'm pulling for at this point. I'm not that impressed with their "All Star" selections to begin with. I've always kind of liked Charla and Mirna - but that may be because it is fun to watch them self-implode.

I don't get Joyce and Uchena - why do you need this race to hold your marriage together? Not to mention, they seem so good with each other on the show - what in their real life is so bad that makes them say they need the race to save their marriage? ???

Rob and Amber = SNORE!

Yeah, I agree that the season opener wasn't all that exciting. I thought they would have thrown in a twist... like eliminating the Muslim guys last time when they thought they were just last to grab a number.

I mentioned it awhile back, but the racers came to Guam for a challenge. They actually show part of it in the opening credits... it's the clip that shows the military helicopter. Pretty cool! I can't wait to see it!

Oh, and add me to the list of Romber/BQ haters ;).

I agree. This is what seemed to be the stress in their marriage from the little bit that they talked about where they have been since the last race. I think having an escape from all of that might be good for their marriage.

Anyway, I didn't think the first episode was all that exciting either. It was just ho-hum. I'm a fan of Romber and DH is a fan of the Beauty Queens. And I also really like Danny and Oswald. I was really bummed that J&JV were eliminated first. I was hoping it would be Charla and Mirna. Hopefully they throw in some twists soon!

I'm late chiming in, but am so excited TAR All Stars is finally on!

I love Rob & Amber, and I think they actually have an interesting strategy going this time. They're clearly trying to be nicer to people. It must be that they're hoping to not be the big target this time-- the team everyone wants to beat. Maybe they're thinking if they are a little more friendly, they can deflect some of that negative attention. Interesting.

OMG, who knew Mary was such a starf--er?! I liked her last season but her fawning over the other teams was painful. Oh, but she's already hating on the beauty queens, though. :rolleyes:

Speaking of the beauty queens, they didn't come out as strong as I expected. They were so dominant last season. I wonder if this group is just tougher for them or if their strategy is to be "middle of the pack" for a while.

BUMMED that John Vito and Jill were eliminated. I kept telling DH that I thought they would be the team to really challenge Romber, mentally and physically. Such a disappointment! Especially when Drew and Kevin looked like they'd been lying on a couch swilling beer since the last time they were on the show and certainly didn't deserve to be back.

Team Cha Cha Cha (Danny & Oswald) were favorites of mine in their season and I'm still loving them. I think everyone always remembers the way they left their race (giving up and going shopping) instead of how hard they ran it. If they can keep it together, they could be in the final groups for sure.

HATE Mirna and Schmirna. UUUUuuuugggghhhh I can't believe they are back-- please, please let them go away soon.

The frat boy & Pink girl couple (I don't even remember their names, they're so boring) are lame. They don't seem to inspire or challenge each other in any meaningful way. Plus, I really think they shouldn't have been allowed to combine people from different teams. Why not just bring back the frat boys?! They were obnoxious but good racers. Those Pink girls were out early on and neither deserves to be in All Stars.

What's up with Ian this time around? He seems happier/funnier/more laid back than before-- in a good way. I couldn't be more suprised about it, but I'm enjoying it.

Speaking of the frat boy & one of the double D's (I think it's Danielle?), what happened to Danielle? She looks different. Other than dying her hair Barbie blonde she looks different than when she was on the original show. What a disappointment. She ends up w/ the dog (I do think the frats are dogs) and she changed herself...

When I heard they were going to Chile, I told my DH that we are going to hear more of that fake stupid accent. :rolleyes:

I swear if Mirna and Charla and Mary and David don't get eliminated soon, I am going to stop watching. I am not kidding. I love this show but those have to be 4 of the most annoying people that have ever been on the show. I would much prefer Jonathon and Victoria over these annoying people. At least Jonathon is honest about himself.

At the end when Mary was saying that she was done nothing but help people in both races and that she was done with helping, I got even madder. Since when has she helped anyone. If I remember right, other teams were helping her. She just annoys me.

And .... when M&C were talking about inner beauty. WTH?? I like the blondes. I like them b/c she don't get mad at each other and treat each other with respect. I maybe wrong but I can't remember a time when they went off on each other and they are honest about their game playing. Kind of like the way Rob & Amber are. Do I want them to win? Probably not but I will root for them over Mary & David and Mirna and Charla any day.

ITA with the above. Fortunately I didn't watch the season with Mirna and Charla originally, so this is my first view of them. But my God are they annoying! They are both psychotic.

I like Mary and David, but I don't like how they play the game. Get over the "alliances" already! Didn't the first time around teach you anything? When she got up to the mat and said that she was 'disappointed', oh give me a break. She and David struggled last season and would have been out much quicker if they didn't have 2 other teams helping them out.

I was glad that Kevin and Drew got booted. Poor guys just weren't in it and I was tired of the complaining.

This is going to be a VERY boring season if Romber keeps coming in first place.

Very happy to see Kevin & Drew go. I had heard great things about the "Frats" from their season (I didn't start watching until the season when the horrid Freddy & Kendra beat out the adorable Kris & Jon), but obviously their hearts just were not in it. Or at least Drew's wasn't. And his behavior at the mat was just tacky. I frankly am a bit annoyed that a team with one member who clearly did not want to be there wasted a slot that might have been taken by a more enthusiastic, competitive team--there certainly is no lack of interesting former racers.

I have to give David & Mary props for one thing (well, Mary)--the photos in the boardroom. She figured out right away that they would be significant and beat out a lot of "smarter" racers. They did do a lot of riding on the coattails of more skilled racers in their original season, but so far they have survived two legs on their own merits. Nobody has done them any favors. (And they have helped people in this race: they gave Charla and Mirna the picture clue in the boardroom, and pulled them out of the mud when they got stuck. Now, I don't think they are owed anything for that, but it's incorrect to say that they haven't done any helping in this race.)

My new favorite racers are Oswald and Danny. Love, love, love them!

Ugh...I was hoping Mirna and Charla would be the ones to do last night. Is anyone else completely annoyed by Mirna's fake, exaggerated Spanish accent? I cringe whenever she opens her mouth.
YES! I couldn't stand them in their first season, and they seem to be even more annoying now. Not only am I sick of the fake accent and pretending to know Spanish, I'm soooo tired of the dramatics, screaming, and going off about other racers for no apparent reason. I can't wait to see them go.

I was glad to see Kevin and Drew go, but disappointed in it, as I loved them in their first season. But like you said, it seemed Drew just didn't have his heart in it, which is unfortunate for some other team that would have played harder and had a better attitude.

Dave and Mary are also annoying the hell out of me. I'll give it to her for looking at the pictures first in the boardroom, but enough with this "friends" crap. You don't go on this show to make friends, and you have to know that when you form an alliance at some point it's going to break (as they saw with the Bama girls). Yes they helped Mirna and Charla out of the mud and in the boardroom, but all those two did was pass Mary and Dave to try and get to the pit stop quicker. What's wrong with that? It's not like M&C were 4th, and M&D were 8th. They came in right after the girls! :rolleyes: It's so irritating, and I can't wait for their elimination either.

Loved Danny and Oswald in their first season, and am loving them now. I really hope they win.

As for the boardroom task, I just don't get how Joyce and some of the others that took a long time weren't seeing the other players going over to the pictures, leaving, and not coming back! I was really stumped as to why the couldn't figure it out, since it seemed so obvious.

...and pretending to know Spanish

You mean, "Can you tell me if my amigo is on this plane" is not Spanish?! ;)

The whole scene where they were arguing on the side of the road with the BQ's was just CRAZY. I was shaking my head in disbelief. I thought they were completely blowing things out of proportion and only making themselves look like a horses ass. Moreso, when she (Mirna) threw her purse at the taxi driver and tried to guilt him like he was taking all of her money. The poor guy looked so confused. I was lmao as all the other teams began zipping past them and they came to the realization that their dramatics were suddenly affecting their race.

I don't understand how Mary could be smart enough to figure out the boardroom challenge so quickly and then tell David that he should turn right on the way to the pit stop because the right arrow on the sign had more words. WTH?

Charla and Mirna are extremely annoying, but the comment about the BQ's beauty being skin deep and plastic surgery (?!) was just plain bitchy.

I'm still loving Rob and Amber. I like the BQs too, but they'd better step up their game! I wasn't watching when Oswald & Danny raced in their original season, but I can see why they're fan favorites.

ITA with most of the above.

I must say that yesterday episode was MUCH more exciting than the first one. You gotta give props to Rob and Amber and Donny and Oswald for going from last to first/second. I thought they were for sure screwed when they missed their flight! At least they get it, you have to take risks in the game. And why didn't more people pick the gravel backfilling thing instead of the bolts. If I was playing and I saw that HUGE tire and all those bolts, I TOTALLY would have done the other!

I am not a huge Rob/amber fan, but they do play the game well. I just wish they got like 3rd or 4th place instead of 1st all the time!

Finally watched the episode....

ITA with what you all have been saying. I did think it was perfect that the 3 worst & most annoying teams came in last this time. Drew/Kevin, Mirna/Charla, David/Mary-- all awful. None of them should be there. Why the heck are they there and not, say, the hippies?! I would have been happy if any of those teams went home and hope the other 2 will follow suit soon. Other thoughts:

Major props to Rob & Amber and Danny & Oswald for going from last place to first. These do look like the teams to beat! Love them both.
Ian hasn't shot off his mouth and said anything stupid and offensive yet. How can that be?
My DH was ROTFL when Mirna was doing her fake-Spanish crying and saying "I'll give you all my food money!" Man, she is a piece of work.
I'm disappointed in the beauty queens thus far. They played a hard, smart game last season and they haven't stepped up yet in this season.
Mary hasn't yet learned that this game is The Amazing Race and not The Amazing Show for Making Lifelong Friends. :rolleyes:

My DD and I spend way too much time analyzing each and every task (we want to be on TAR one day), but we both picked the bolts as well. Driving a piece of machinery is pretty hard, especially if you can't drive a stick...or at least that's what we were thinking. I would have gone with the bolts too. Yeah there were a lot of them, but you'd have 2 people working on them so it could have gone faster if everyone paid attention to what they were doing.

Good show tonight.

Team KY cracked me up...well at least Mary did. She killed me lamenting about how it was so hard playing without their friends, especially the Cho's. Like they were the smartest cookies in the jar. ;)

I agree with everyone about Charla and Mirna. They are a big PITA. OMG!! Tonight is the first time that I've caught one entire episode, and boy did they work my nerves. And what was up with Mirna's accent? Geesh, she's a piece of work.

I died laughing when I read this on another board about Charla:
"Caahhhn yuuu get our teeek-et-ah?" Charla says to the airport people so she's sure they understand her? And "Yuuuu knoooow Eeeeeenglis? Weee geeev yuuu feeef tee dollar-sa!" to one of the locals.

She's apparently been taking language lessons from her cousin.

I also agree that Romber coming in 1st place is going to get really old, really fast. Dang!

Best lines of the night:

"Be the fish, become the fish". Oswald
"Teri, you don't own the world!" Mirna
"Rob is not Jesus". The Guidos
"I learned rude from the king of rude...you." Mirna to Ian

~~~~
Next week's episode looks like it's gonna be a doozy. Romber going head-to-head with Charla and Mirna. Oh yeah, it's on like Donkey Kong!! :D
I'm sad to see David and Mary go, but they are not cut out for this show. If they spent as much time trying to figure out where they're supposed to be as they do looking for friends, they wouldn't be last all the time.
I was really surprised the blondes made such a stupid mistake. You'd think they'd know better.
Mirna and Schmirna need to get off my tv NOW! Annoying doesn't even begin to describe them and I was so hoping Teri and Ian would get physical at the airport counter. Can't wait to see them with Romber next week. I'm guessing something was said to Charla about jumping all over Phil on the mat, because she hasn't been doing it this season.
I agree 115%!!!! What has me worried is that they are going to make it further in the race than they should. The previews for next week said it will have us talking about who got eliminated. I am thinking it is going to be Romber. But that seems too obvious. What do you guys think?
Last night reminded me of why I don't watch the show that much - even though I love it. I am just so convinced it is rigged. Or we see so little of what is actually going on that it is hard to follow timewise how it all works - the fact that the BQs drove back and got their clue and came back and no other teams had gotten there.
I was laughing at the whole fish task - I would have been freaked out too.
And I am sorry, I felt bad for giggling but it was funny in a cute way when whomever said "Oh look, Charla will fall in love" in regards to the little person at the mat.
Romber coming in first is getting old (Did you see how excited she was when they BOTH won home gyms) but I don't want them to be eliminated - they do keep it entertaining ( and I have them in my fantasy pool)
UGH! Get Mirna and Charla off of my television! I cannot stand them and their stupid fake accents. It went from Mirna talking to whomever perfectly normally, to throwing on a Spanish (?) accent when addressing the guy who was helping them after the rapids. WTF? Does she think they'll understand her better if she pretends to sound like them? Soooo irritating! :rolleyes: And then she gets mad at Team Guido for leaving? It. Is. A. RACE! Did you and Charla not pass Dave and Mary last week, even though they had helped you out (and even more so, since they pulled the girls out of the mud)? Goddess, the hypocrisy is astounding.
If Dave would have just said "No Mary I'm not going to 'just go' because I think I saw a sign back there for where we need to go." and turned around, they would have been fine. I don't get how Mary can just tell him to drive when they have no clue where they're going. :rolleyes:
I can't believe the BQs made such a dumb mistake. Has there ever been a leg where they didn't have to do a Detour? Lucky for them there were worse teams playing.
Yeah, Rob and Amber coming in 1st is getting old, but I seem to remember this happening the last time they were on as well.
re: the spoiler:
If that is correct, this will be the worst season of TAR ever!! Eric and Danielle.... UGH!! The two lamest and least interesting people in the race right now. And Mirna and Charla-- don't even get me started. What a huge disappointment that outcome would be.
I am praying that Rob & Amber are not eliminated next week and this is just a red herring.
re: the last episode:
I'm so glad David & Mary are gone. Mary still doesn't get that this show isn't about making friends. It's a RACE, Mary! They shouldn't have even been invited back for all stars to begin with.
I really want someone to punch Mirna in the face. For real.
I can't believe the BQs went all the way back for that clue and still came in 4th!
Eric and Danielle are nauseating. She's just such a dimwit to begin with, and he doesn't show a lot of respect for her... he's constantly objectifying her and yelling at her.
Still love: Rob & Amber, Danny & Oswald-- and I like Teri & Ian so much more this season!
I usually love the Amazing Race. DH and I have not missed an episode in all 11 seasons. But this season is lame. I think it could have been so much better with better teams. Here is my "fantasy" All-Star line up:
-Joe & Bill (Season 1)
-Frank & Margarita (Season 1)
-Oswald & Danny (Season 2)
-Tara & Will (Season 2)
-Flo & Zach (Season 3)
-Teri & Ian (Season 3)
-Charla & Mirna (Season 5)
-Colin & Christie (Season 5)
-Jonathan & Victoria (Season 6)
-Rob & "Ambuh" (Season 7)
-BJ & Tyler (Season 9)
-Dustin & Kandice (Season 10)
And have them race for 2 million!
Now that would make for good TV!
I really liked this week's episode. It was full of memorable one-liners. :)
I liked seeing more of the dynamics of the various teams. Eric and Danielle were so incredibly annoying during the fish task. I agree with Rob (and I don't say that often!) about how icky Eric was in "cheering" for Danielle and repeating over & over how she should use her boobs. And she was just too much of a "girl" about the whole task. I'm not a huge Romber fan, but I will give them credit for always being encouraging and respectful of one another. They play a good game and they seem to genuinely enjoy themselves. And I'm starting to like Amber a bit more. I thought before that she was just a pretty face with no personality and pretty much a pushover, but she's holding her own. At least she does the tasks without dissolving into a puddle of mush like some of the other girls (e.g. Danielle and Mirna). I don't want Romber to win the whole thing, but I will be sad if they're eliminated early. They're by far the smartest and most competent racers on the show.
I like the BQs for the same reason - they do the tasks without complaining, they're tough, and they're always positive. They're not the smartest but they do treat one another well. When they found out about their mistake at the end, they didn't start fighting or blaming one another (as many other teams would have) but just went on their way to fix it.
I am thrilled that Kentucky is gone. I liked them ok last season but they've been sooo annoying this season. I laughed out loud when Mary said "I'm just not a thrills and chills kind of girl." Umm, then why'd you sign up to do TAR (twice)? I don't know if I can stand any more of Mirna & Charla. The fake accents, the spazzing about every little thing, the constant whining. Ughh, please please please be eliminated next!
I loooved seeing so much of Chile. It's so beautiful! And I loved the whitewater rafting! I've been rafting in Chile (not the same river) and this episode was making me sooo nostalgic.
Wow! I can't believe that Rob and Amber are actually gone! I just KNEW it was going to be a non-elim round! I've never been one of their fans, and was really irritated when they were selected for this season, but they've actually grown on me the last few weeks. As someone said last week, they are very respectful of each other and seem to really enjoy the race. And Amber seems much more like an actual PART of the team, instead of just Rob's sidekick like the last time they were on. I found myself REALLY wanting them to pull it off tonight and beat out Charla and Mirna. Holy shit are they annoying!!
Oh, and I really wish we could have heard all of the letters from previous teammates!!! The ones to Rob and Amber and Charla and Mirna sounded really funny!! And that seemed like a fairly nice letter from Lyn to the BQs!
Rob and Amber were one of my favorite teams on TAR. I liked watching their antics and they made the race more of a game and more interesting to watch.
Charla and Mirna...why are they so upset that Rob and Amber lied to them?! They should've expected it. It's a game!!!
Why is Uchenna so pissed at Rob and Amber?
I am indifferent about Rob and Amber. I don't like or dislike them. But I definitely wanted them to beat Charla and Schmirna. Ugghhhh......
I don't really get the vibe that Uchenna is all that pissed at Rob and Amber. He just kept mentioning that there was a friendly competition that was carried over from their season. I think he just wanted to come in #1 in some of the legs that wasn't the final one. If anybody should have been pissed, it should have been Romber since, like Uchenna said, he and Joyce beat them when it counted most....for the $1 million. Romber came in #1 over Uchenna and Joyce in most of the legs, but not the most important one.
I didn't want ROmber to win, but I wanted them to go far--he entertains me so!
I love the righteous indignation shown by CHarla and Mirna, who then call Amber a "bitch." Yeah--cuz that's how your grandmother would want you to act.
Ditto everything msnicolea said. My Dh was cheering last night but I was not happy - I can't stand shmirna and I really enjoy watching Rob and Amber - oh well. At least they lost on something that was their fault (not just dumb luck) - can't blame anyone but themselves.
Not that I was a big fan of Rob and Amber, but I would MUCH rather have seen Mirna and Charla go than them. I am sooo sick of their screaming, and playing the victim...it's so annoying! :mad: And what the hell was with Mirna saying "Because I'm a lawyer I can tell when someone's lying."? Really?! Because you seemed to keep going down the hill before turning around, and what does being a lawyer have anything to do with it? :rolleyes: Also, is it really necessary to always comment on Charla being a small person? I swear she talks about their "disadvantage" practically every leg! Goddess get them off my television!
:(
Charla and Mirna...why are they so upset that Rob and Amber lied to them?! They should've expected it. It's a game!!!
Why is Uchenna so pissed at Rob and Amber?
Because Charla and Mirna get mad at anyone who tries to get ahead of them. They were pissed when Kentucky passed them, when Joe and Bill didn't (I guess) wait for them after the rapids, and now the Romber thing. They're just hypocrites.
I didn't get that vibe from Uchenna either. I think it was all good natured competition.
How rude was Romber's letter from that mom/son team--god, I HATED them!!! Great you're gay--congrats! Now STFU!!!
Ugh. I couldn't stand the mother and son team either, but wasn't surprised by their rudeness. I remember during their season the son constantly talking about where Rob and Amber were, if they were ahead or behind, and that he didn't want them to win. Just run your own race and stop worrying about other teams! :rolleyes:
I really hope Danny and Oswald win, as I just love them.
I have to say that I'm disappointed that Rob and Amber got eliminated. I actually thought that CBS might have made it a non-elimination round to keep them in (although i guess I'm glad the game isn't really "fixed") since I'm guessing Rob and Amber are pretty good for the ratings vs say Charla and Mirna. Unfortunately I really wanted those two to lose last night.
ITA. They shouldn't have been on the first one, but I'm glad they lost. Now they have another chance and they could win. Why wouldn't CBS let someone who hasn't won any sort of money or made any sort of money be on it.
It really pi&&es me off :mad:
Regarding Rob and Amber, they are good for ratings, I'm guessing that's why they are (were) on again. What I don't understand is why Uchenna and Joyce are on again since they WON TAR before.
Damn. i was really hoping it would be a non-elimination round. In fact, I was feeling pretty sure about it as Romber was mosied up to the platform.
Why is Uchenna so pissed at Rob and Amber?
I don't think they were necessarily pissed at them, but they did mention they were turned off by the comment that Amber made to Schmirna. They've always been good, clean competitors and I guess they don't like to see that sort of element in the game.
I was sick of Romber coming in first all the time (because how many things can one couple win?) but I would have been happy with them coming in next-to-last. I was certain it was going to be a non-elim round, too!
I really can not stand Myrna. She is even more annoying this season. Unbelievable. Why didn't she have Charla do the mail-sorting challenge? She complains about having to do it all herself, but that was def. something Charla could have handled.
I don't think Uchenna was po'd at Romber. But I do think he felt like they had something to prove. And Rob is so cocky, he must really annoy the other teams.
My fav teams:
Terry and Ian
Ozwald and Danny
The Guidos
I totally agree!
The only part of this episode I really tuned into was the end. I loved Oswald and Danny asking Phil to join them on their vacation and him saying "that would be a whole different kind of reality show." That cracked me up!
Other than that I've tuned out or missed most of the episodes this season - actually forgot it was on last week and I'm bummed I missed seeing Chile because I want to go there SO bad!
I find myself doing laundry, reading a book, working on design projects, etc while this show is on - I just can't get into the teams which makes it not interesting. Eh.
I agree she's a control freak, and then she wants to gloat about how she's done more than any other Amazing Racer in history b/c she's had to take up the slack for her cousin who "can't do much of anything" (I'm paraphrasing"), but that's how she was making it sound. That is a great interview! It actually tells you a lot about the race itself, and not just how Rob & Amber feel about it. Interesting. You never think about things like overloaded boats and people getting held up at customs, but that stuff really does impact the game.
What season was it where one of the teams took a taxi somewhere in the Middle East (?) and were driven to the taxi driver's hometown and held until they handed over money. Remember that? That team lost that leg and was eliminated. Sometimes you just run into bad luck. That's one of the reasons this game is infuriating, but one of the reasons we all keep watching, I'm sure.
If I recall correctly, Mirna actually complained about Charla's "shortcomings". Geez, nice choice of words. I also couldn't stand when she was going off about her grandmother or whatever and then called Amber a b*itch. Yes, I'm sure your grandmother would love that. I didn't see the original season that these 2 were on, but I've had enough of them this season. Mirna's voice is so grating, and she is just so ridiculous at times. Like last week when she got mad at Terri and Ian b/c they weren't letting her talk to their ticket agent. Geez, get a clue. I really hope they're gone next week.
That said, I like Rob and Amber and am sorry to see them go. I agree with a PP who said that Amber actually seemed to be playing instead of being Rob's helper. I loved the BQ's last season and am rooting for them this time, although the competition seems stiffer this time around.
Man, I was pretty bummed. I'm no huge Romber fan, but they were the best team, and the most fun to watch, and I really wanted them to stick around till the end (and come in second place again :) ). I cannot believe they were beaten by Mirna & Charla, possibly the most annoying racers of all time. Ughh. The whole episode was pretty disappointing. The detour wasn't exciting at all, and I hate it when one task is so much easier than the other. I felt kinda bad for Romber b/c Rob actually knew that Magellan's voyage started from Spain (makes a lot more sense than, umm, Guam) so I gave him kudos for that, but then the spelling did them in. It seemed to obvious to us, given Phil's voiceover, so it was helpful to read in the interview that the hint about spelling wasn't in the actual clue. And the needle in a haystack tasks always seem pointless to me. It just wasn't a very exciting leg.
I really liked reading the interview with Rob & Amber. Thanks for posting that RobynScott. They seem like pretty happy people and I like that they're still positive about the whole experience and not dissing other teams (except Mirna, who deserves it). It was really interesting to read some of the behind-the-scenes stuff about the show. It explained a lot of things that I found odd about the leg (like why Amber & Rob weren't running at the end; and why they weren't the first out the airport in Punta Arenas like they usually are). I always wonder about timing on the show. I had no idea the signs detour took an hour and a half. Or that Mirna/Charla spent 20 minutes looking for the clue in the wrong place.
I'm rooting for Danny & Oswald now. And I'm rooting just as hard for Mirna & Charla to be kicked off next.
Interesting so many are not enjoying the show. Granted a fast forward in a few parts with TiVo, but I was totally into it - mainly because I could NOT believe Rob&Amber were going to be eliminated.
I LOVE the BQ, and thought it was interesting that Uchenna and Joyce waited around to see if Romber beat our Charla and Mirna. But I love U&J.
I also have a ton of favorites - the BQs, U&Joyce, Guido, and Danny and Oswald.
I'm glad Rob and "Ambuh" were eliminated. I just flat out don't like them and how they are on so.many. reality shows. Rob even alluded in that interview that we'll be seeing more of them soon. Please no!!!!!! The country Philippines is an easy word to misspell... but he completely butchered it!! I think he spelled it "Phillpenes."
It kinda bugged me that in the interview he said that he didn't know spelling would matter. Then why during the show would he say something like, "I hope this isn't a spelling error?" Obviously they had to have known that spelling would count.
I hope Schmirna are Philiminated next. Ugh!
I am thrilled that Rombuh are gone! I was so sick of this show becoming the Rob and Amber show. Their 15 minutes is long past up. I think the way they went out demonstrated Rob's weakness--much like Colin, he can't cope if he's not winning. He falls apart. He makes dumb mistakes.
Loving, loving, loving the Chas. I am all about Danny and Oswald. They just make me smile every time they're onscreen, which they need to be more. I'm so thrilled they won the leg! I'm also strangely fond of the Guidos--they were odious in their season, but as somebody on Television without Pity pointed out, after Jonathan (or "he who shall not be named"), their brand of charming evil comes across as rather quaint. Oh, and if Eric's comments to them and the Chas from the previews mean what I think they mean--it's on, fratty-boy. I never liked him anyway, and the constant boob comments are really getting old, but going there? Really beyond the pale.
People I wish they'd cast:
The Clowns
Ken and Gerard, aka "Bald Snark"
(I haven't seen either of these teams in their seasons, but I have heard so much about how fun and funny they were that I wish they'd been on instead of Kevin and Drew. Having now seen season 1 on DVD, I totally understand the K/D love, but they clearly weren't ready to compete, or at least Drew wasn't. It was sad to have them go out like that.)
Sorry, but I'll respectfully disagree with that. I thought they ran their race very well and deserved to win. Its not their fault they were constantly overshadowed by the Romber fame through much of it, which I firmly believe is the reason why they [Rob & Amber] did so well in that race. Rob even admits that their 'fame' helped them alot in that season, but not so much this time around. What did Joyce and Uchenna, or any of the other teams who raced that season, have to fall back on? They certainly didn't have people bending over backwards to help them during every leg because of past reality show fame. And...I'll never forget the FF they [Joyce & Uchenna] took where Joyce had to shave her head and Uchenna stood there telling her how beautiful and strong she was. I totally could not see Amber agreeing to do that!
Joyce and Uchenna, Chip & Kim and The Hippies are my top three teams to ever run the race. Now, all of that being said, I will say that this season, I actually gained respect for Romber and felt that they ran their race very well. I was beginning to enjoy them, which is more than I can say when watching them during two Survivors and a previous TAR. I wanted them to stay in and continue racing.
We finally got to watch it last night. I'm very glad Rob & Amber are gone. I didn't think they should have been on the first one or this one either. They have enough money, they needed to put people in there who need the money. I believe in charma, and what goes around comes around and they deserved it after lying to Schmirna. Yes I know it's a race, but charma doesn't care what it is.
Yes Joyce & Uchenna won and are back, but remember they were involved in that huge scandal in TX, going through infertility and let's face it, a million dollars really isn't a lot of money when you don't have a job.
Schmirna, I can't believe she was talking about her like that. And why would she tell her to leave the stuff on the stairs and not help. Just cause she is a little person doesn't mean she can't help. I didn't get that. For the time she took to yell at her they could have been so far ahead.
I don't like Dustin & Candice but they seem to be one of the strongest teams now. If they can get up front, they could possibly take it all...
Anyway, I'm loving it :)
And, it cracked me up that in the little interview thing after they came in first where Mirna said that it didn't matter if they were in pain, or how hard it was, or if Charla was out of breath and couldn't run, that they still can do well in the race or something like that. UGH! I couldn't believe that Mirna and Charla came in first last night! :mad: And I find it quite hilarious that Mirna said the BQs weren't that smart when a) M & C can never seem to get anywhere without a guide, b) actually believed Amber when she said the clue was where it wasn't, and c)continually speaks in Spanish and other accents in countries where that language doesn't even apply, and can barely speak the language! Seriously, when are they going home?
Eric is such an ass, and I was really hoping that since M & C didn't get kicked off last night, that he and Danielle would. Oh well. Also, what joke did he make that got one of the Guidos so mad?
What a great break for Teri and Ian last night, and good for them for coming in third. I really didn't like him on their season, but this time around he seems like a good guy.
Danny and Oswald chasing Phil around the pit stop was AWESOME! :D I just love those two, and am really hoping they win!
I LOVE Danny and Oswald almost as much as I love Uchenna and Joyce. They really are a beautiful couple.
I thought it was a good episode last night. Can't wait to see why Danielle and Eric get booted from their seats on the plane!!
Okay, not to defend M & C, but there were other teams who were speaking Spanish in Africa, too. "Rapido" and "Gracias" if I recall correctly. Mirna and Charla still annoy me the most!
Come to think of it, he does seem more likeable. Have you guys noticed how he does not yell "We're coming Phil" anymore? I always laughed when he did that!
I'm loving team cha, cha, cha this season! They are a great team!
I didn't mind teams speaking Spanish b/c Mozambique is a Portuguese colony, so speaking Spanish (assuming you don't know Portuguese) might make some sense. But I do not understand how speaking English with a Spanish accent (like Mirna) or speaking Italian (like Chirna) is going to help you. Ughh, those two are just too much.
Oh, that makes sense now! I know exactly one word of Portuguese but I was confused when Cha Cha Cha used it.
I am so disenchanted with this season. I want Charla and Mirna to get off my television. I cannot stand them. Clearly they're there for the drama. I just wonder which idiot at CBS decided to bring them for the drama instead of Colin and Christie. At least C&C could race and not use fake accents. I mean, seriously, I cannot express in words how much I want C&M to go.
I don't mean to be contrary, but Colin brought along plenty of drama on his journey. Am I the only one who remembers the fight with the cab driver where he almost went to jail?! :eek:
My DH read an article somewhere that said that the teams that have been eliminated are praying that Charla and Mirna stay in the race so they don't have to put up with them. I really don't blame them. Think about it. Doesn't CBS usually "hide" the teams on some island. So it is like a vacation for them. Would you want Charla and Mirna on your vacation? LOL!!
On the other hand ... I.WANT.THEM.OFF.MY.TV.NOW!!!!!
That's what I mean. Colin and Christie brought tons of drama but it was fun to watch drama. Remember the huge fight they had in the muddy field? "My cow is broken!" Charla and Mirna's drama is just annoying. Very, very annoying.
If you go to CBS website, they have TONS of race footage including alot of stuff from the house where all of the teams stay after they are eliminated until the end of the race. I'm telling you, this place is SWEET!!! I'd almost want to get eliminated just to be able to stay there. :o :p
I am so mad! I set my DVR to record tonight's episode, but because of BASKETBALL! I got 45 minutes of "60 Minutes" and only 15 minutes of the Amazing Race.
Can someone give me a rundown of what happened? I got as far as Eric and Danielle getting asked to leave the plane.
JenniferEC
03-26-2007, 06:12 AM
I'm still not sure why Eric and Danielle were asked to leave the plane. They were issued tickets and then all of a sudden someone was on the plane telling them they accidentally gave them someone else's seats.
I'm not happy Teri and Ian are gone. They were really growing on me this season.
Not at all thrilled that Schmirna came in first again. Except for the Weavers, no other team has grated on my nerves as much as these two. Mirna's constant "language changes" and always telling Charla to hurry up make me want to reach through the tv and smack her. I don't know how they got so lucky with the flights last night, but I really hope they don't win.
I loved Danny and Oswald's joke when they were on the bench waiting for the ferry.
Belm
03-26-2007, 06:51 AM
I *think* that Eric/Danielle were pulled off because the ticket counters mis-counted how many people from stand-by were allowed on the list. Having flown stand-by tons of times, I have also been pulled off the plane because another passenger arrived late to the flight.
I wasn't in love with tonight's episode. I hate it when it all comes down to just bad luck at the airlines. I felt so bad for Terry/Ian and the Guidos for having to just keep waiting at the airport.
I'm in shock that Charla/Mirna came in 1st again. I'm ready for them to be eliminated.
At least we had some nice comic relief from Danny & Oswald.
Seriously, why do you think Charla and Mirna use the fake accents? Do they think they're "speaking" the native language? Do they think people will help them more if they don't sound like American-accented folk? Have they ever said why they do it?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Last night was such a snoozefest. As much as I love this show, there is no excitement. Danny and Oswald stopping for fruit :eek: ???? Come on guys, it's a RACE, eat when you cross the mat.
They could have beaten Smirna & Co. I liked Terri and Ian this season also. He did throw in a "we're coming Phil" at the end there.
For a show that's so into bunching, I was quite disappointed with last night's episode that was all about airplane luck.
Oh, and I read somewhere, maybe TWOP, that Colin & Christie were asked to be on All-stars and declined b/c she's pg. Not sure if that's true or not, but it makes sense to me - they were clearly one of the best teams from any season.
Re: Eric & Danielle - I thought it sounded like they were let on and then someone with reserved tickets showed up so they kicked them off. I thought that was pretty crappy though - I would have really put up a fuss (not that it would have made a difference).
Did anyone see Best Week Ever this week? They were making fun of Mirna & Charla and their use of broken English in foreign countries.
Yeah - since U & J were "marked" for elimination I predicted that there would be a fast forward - I think instead of a fast-forward, they had these crazy flights. I was really yelling at U & J for not going for the early flight to J'burg like C & M. It might not have worked out but if the other two teams had not been left beind - there was a greater chance they would have wound up eliminated. It worked out but still - that seemed to be a place it would have made sense to take a risk.
Terri and Ian were growing on me, too. Terri must've been ticked that they spent the night in the airport for nothing.
I'm surprised more teams didn't go with Mirna and Charla to J'burg. They would have had many more options in a larger airport.
I think Ozwald and Danny are my favorite team.
I'm thinking back to when Jennifer EC posted the spoiler. Geez, it looks like it's true! :( I'm unhappy if it is because I absolutely abhor the people that came in #1.
JenniferEC
westamp - Sorry, I went back and found the whole list.
11th: John Vito & Jill
10th: Kevin & Drew
9th: Dave & Mary
8th: Rob & Amber
7th: Teri & Ian
6th: Bill & Joe
5th: Uchenna & Joyce
4th: Danny & Oswald
Also, it's been hinted that next week is either a NEL or a double leg.
I usually love, love love TAR (have seen every episode since season 1) but this season is such a snoozefest. I was so excited, I just new that All Starts would be the best, but I am so no impressed.
ITA, remember the season when the teams had to roll out big bales of hay to find the clue and those poor girls never gave up until Phil came to tell them they were eliminated.
These tasks are soo cheesy.
ARGH! I cannot believe that Mirna and Charla came in first again! I was sooooo pissed!!! :mad: I really hope they don't end up in the top three. And how did they not know what a catamaran was?
I was bummed that Teri and Ian got illiminated too. Although I'm liking the Guidos much more this time around, I still would rather have seen them go. Oh well. :(
Loved Phil's eyebrow pop when he was explaining the Roadblock. He's too cute. :D
It's taking all my willpower not to read the spoilers posted. :)
What a crappy result. C&M just get worse and worse each episode. The fake accents, the weird praying in the Jo'burg airport, the constant "hurry up, Charla!" Ughh.
It was pretty funny when Mirna totally didn't get Danny & Oswald's jokes (the bench & then the trading her for food joke). I like D&O more each time. I loved how they gave Charla the cold compress, and the stopping for fruit was pretty funny (and totally understandable; I couldn't race well hungry either).
I'm ready for more excitement. Seems like we haven't seen an adventurous task in a while.
This really has been a boring season. I can't even put my finger on exactly what is missing. Maybe it's just already knowing the teams. I do kinda miss discovering their personalities and styles of competition.
I was bummed to see Teri
