View Full Version : How far PAST your due date did you go?

I realize that the average 1st pregnancy is 41 weeks and 1 day.

I'll hit that mark tomorrow and have an ultrasound, NST and internal scheduled in the afternoon.

As of now I have been having some contractions (feels like menstrual cramps) off and on for a few weeks. Other than that there's been no spotting, no lose of a mucous plug, no water breaking, nothing!

Originally my doctor had said after a week they would start to "get aggressive." However, he's away and I'm seeing his collegue who told me that we'll see what tomorrow's tests reveal and possibly give it a few more days.

In my mind I don't feel like labor will happen naturally. Probably b/c I haven't had any of the 'warning signs.' I'm just curious how far past your due dates you all were and if you were induced or went into labor on your own.

I had several due dates, the one based on my testing and charting, one based on LMP and one based on the size of the baby, but I my early due date was about September 27 or so and I was scheduled for a c section for October 11th - due to the size of my son. My water broke about midnight of the 11th, right after I started my fast for the surgury. I was in definate strong labor within 2 hours.

I went five days past my due date. I was actually scheduled to be induced the following day but my little one finally decided to make her arrival known. I had an appointment the day before I went into labor. I was checked and it revealed that I had no change from the last visit. My OB ordered a NST which was fine. He also wanted a biophysical profile. That was fine as well. After that test I went back to the office and we had a discussion about things. That's when we set up the date for the induction.

I worried and stewed if we had agreed to do the right thing. Finally after a few hours of talking to my husband I decided that we had done the right thing and went to sleep. Within 2 hours I woke up to find that my water was breaking/had broken. By the time we got to the hospital (15-20 minutes after I woke up) I was having strong contractions and was already 2/3 cm dilated.

I'll hit that mark tomorrow and have an ultrasound, NST and internal scheduled in the afternoon. The internal on 1/31 was what caused my water to break when I was 41 weeks 2 days. Right after my water broke I lost the majority of my mucous plug (i had lost a little bit of it about a week prior to that), but no bloody show til I was seriously in labor later that day.

Until that morning I had never had any regular contractions. On that particular day, however, I woke up with mild, consitent contrax. They started coming every 3.5 minutes while I was having my NST right before my exam.

So I guess I too was a late bloomer when it came to labor ;)

Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

With #1 I was induced a week before my due date thanks to some blood pressure issues. With #2 I went into full fledged labor (after about a week of prodromal labor) 5 days past my due date. I did have my membranes stripped the night before.

I went into labor 11 days after my due date (which was fairly accurate - one day before my Ovusoft predicted due date). DS was born on day 12. I had been scheduled for an induction on day 12 (but didn't end up needing it!). Like you, I didn't feel like things were going to happen on their own. I had some BH contrax, but nothing major, no mucous plug loss, etc. I did everything under the sun - lots of walking, pineapple, balsamic vinegar, EPO, RRL tea, you name it, I did it! The Tuesday before DS was born (he was born on a Thursday) I went to the doc and found out we were scheduling the induction for Thursday. I cried all day Tuesday (which my doula said also is rumored to induce labor), got a horrible headache, slept 4 hours, did more walking, and went into labor that night with fast and furious contractions starting at 11:30 p.m. So things CAN happen quickly without warning - even when it seems like there's no hope. BTW, I hadn't progressed at all at my last dr's appt that Tuesday - fingertip dilated, no effacement. My water was broken by my doc when I got to the hospital (also when the mucous plug came out).

I was induced (low amniotic fluid) with both of my kids, at 41 weeks.

I was lucky enough to go 7 days EARLY for baby #1, though my OB said that 10 days late was as far as she'd let me go before inducing. Baby #2 came 5 days late.

Baby #1 was only 1 day late.

Still waiting on baby #2!!! She is 4 days late now and counting. I, too, have had no signs of anything so far with her. I thought she'd come early since she was the second... I was wrong. She has her own agenda. ;) I'm just hoping she arrives on her own before our induction scheduled for the 26th.... I don't want to be induced.

I was induced at 12 days past my due date. I know that my due date was correct because I charted. I wish I would have been firm and not let them induce me as I knew that I was going to go over. My mom was late with all three of us kids and I had a feeling that I wasn't going to go into labor on my due date.

I still felt just fine and was even dancing the day before they induced me! The induction went terribly and I ended up with a c/s. I always wonder if I had just waited a bit more if things would have turned out differently.

10 Days then my water broke. She was still "floating" and I wasnt really dilated when it broke.

11 days late. DD was born at 41 weeks 5 days.

I was neither induced nor went into labor on my own. Nothing happened with my body at all -- no contractions, no dilation, no loss of mucus plug, nothing. We ended up scheduling a c-section due to the estimated size of the baby and because I was diagnosed with CPD. The doctor did not think that I would be able to push the baby out on my own due to the position of my pelvic bones.

I was due on the 15th, went into labor on the 19th, and gave birth on the 21st. First baby.

My son was almost 3 weeks late, and I had to have a c-section. Ugh. Hoping for a VBAC with this one.

My DD was born 6 days after my due date - although I went into labor 4 days after my due date. I dilated sloooooowly, so ended up with pitocin and my midwife broke my water.

DD was due on the 10th and I was induced on the 22nd. DS was due on the 25th and I was induced on the 7th (following month). I was two days from being 2 weeks late with DD and one day from being 2 weeks with DS.

good luck to everyone!
