View Full Version : What name(s) did you choose?
For those of you who are expecting and have chosen a name -- and you're okay with sharing it with us ;) -- or for those who are already moms...what names did you pick?
And secondly...why did you choose the names you did? (Family name, just liked it, etc.)
We haven't decided completely yet, so I can't post yet. I'm just curious about the names you actually picked -- not just like or considered.

We decided on Luke Anthony for our son. It was the only boy name that we both liked from the beginning. We never did have a finalist for a girl's name, which turned out to be a good thing since we are having a boy. :D

We chose to wait until we delivered our baby to know if it was a boy or a girl, so we chose Rebecca Ainsley for the girl and if it was a boy, we were going with Matthew Thomas. We chose the girls name with no problem, but the boys name was not chose until a week before we gave birth. We just agreed on these names, no family background or anything on them. :D

We picked Mackenzie Marie. Marie is a family name... it's mine and my mom's middle name, so we thought it was fitting to pass it on to her as well. Mackenzie was a name we liked on a list of quite a few. One morning, my husband told me about a dream he had. This was before we knew the sex... he dreamed it was a girl named Kenzie and that the boys were already knocking on the door trying to date her. After that, the name quickly became my favorite :)
It wasn't until after we told my family that we thought of the nicknames... M&M and Big Mack. Oh well! The worst part I think is my husband calling himself the "Mack Daddy"
Gender was a surprise until the birth day for us too, we did have an easier time with a girl's name, which according to a few friends and relatives meant we'd have a girl. Don't know if there really was any subconscious intuition at work, but sure enough, there's more pink in our house now.
We named our DD Evelyn Christine. For her first name, after looking at name books a while, we made a joint list. Had about 30 or 35 names on it. After talking, though, it became obvious Evelyn was both our favorites. Christine is my mom's name.
If DD had been a boy, the name would've been Nolan Alexander. Still planning on using that one, if the stork makes a blue-wrapped visit in the future. We would've liked to incorporate a name from DH's side for a son's middle name, but, ahem, the names DH's family chooses weren't ones we were interested in passing on.

Parker Alexandria
Orignally, we werent going to find out the sex of the baby. But as time got closer to 20 weeks, DH really wanted to find out so I agreed to. Before we agreed to find out the sex, we really liked the name Parker for a boy and at one point I even suggested naming the baby Parker regardless of his/her sex. DH wasnt crazy about it. When we found out she was a girl we went through many many names and DH didnt like any of the girly names I had suggested. We went back to Parker and found out that it's a last name in BOTH of our families (dont worry we arent related!) People kept saying "Parker is an unusual name for a girl" and I wanted to give her a long and girly middle name to balance out with her first name and our 1 syllable last name. We used to live near Alexandria, Virginia and we loved that for a middle name.

We chose Aidan Patrick. We found out the sex very early so we never really did have a girls name. Originally we agreed on Sean Thomas. Sean is dh's name and Thomas is my father's name. I never really liked having a "jr" per se so when I was about 8 months pg and watching Sex and the City (where Carrie was involved with Aidan :D ) I decided to name our son Aidan Patrick. Patrick is my dh's middle name.
We're going to ttc #2 very soon and the baby name fights are already starting :)

Our DD is named Aidan Christine. We knew we wanted Gaelic names for our children which played a big role in why Aidan is Aidan. I knew of men and boys named Aidan but it wasn't until I read "Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana" that I thought of it used as a girl's name. It was listed in the celebrities' kids' names section. I can't remember who it was but their daughter was Aidan Rose. I loved it. It means "firey one" and we thought it would be perfect for our little girl. Everyone who has heard it think's it's so cute and unique.
Christine is DH's grandmother's middle name. I really liked it and wanted something very feminine to offset her masculine first name.
For a boy's name we had originally decided on Liam Everett. Everett is a given, it's my grandfather's middle name, it won't change. But, I'm completely off of Liam now. It's not that I don't like the name itself, I just don't like it for our future son. We already have 3 Gaelic/Celtic names in the family (Ryan, Tara & Aidan) so we definitely need something in that line.
Our boys are named Thomas IV and Alexander. Thomas is (obviously) named for his father, paternal grandfather, and great-grandfather, and Alexander is named for my father, paternal grandfather, and great-grandfather.
We love family names. A top pick for a girl's name before the gender ultrasound was Marianna (my mother's name [Mary] + DH's mother's middle name [Anne]).

We didn't know DD's gender until birth, so we had two sets.
Her name is Abigail Bridgett, and we had a reasonably easy time picking it out: Bridgett was my great-grandmother (my mom's mom's mom)'s maiden name, and she passed a little over a year before Abby was born. Abigail we just liked. - DH liked that it means something like father's delight.
Our boy name we decided on about a week before I gave birth, and we don't like it now (good thing she's a girl!). It was Owen Christopher. No reason for the selection; we just needed a name in case we had a boy, and really didn't feel passionate about ANY boy names at all.

If this baby ever comes out we'll get to know which name we are using, but for now we don't know if it's a boy or a girl. We actually have kept our names top secret up until now, but started giving out 1 clue a week (via our baby website). It was fun to see people's guesses. Anyhow since some have figured it out I see no harm in posting them here.
Our boy's name is Camden Joshua. DH proposed on top of a mountain, overlooking the harbor in Camden, ME. We like the nickname Cam, but felt Cameron was too overused for our taste. Therefore, Camden seemed like a perfect choice.
Our girl name is Macy Jane. We both loved how it sounded and it was a top choice from the start. At one point we talked about the idea of incorporating our moms names or initials into the name. We quickly realized that both grandmothers start with M, his mom's name starts with A and my mom's name starts with a C. That sealed the deal.

Genevieve Grace Patricia is the same name we picked before we got pregnant and still like it~ Genevieve because its a different name that you dont hear very often.. Grace because we love that name but wont use it as a first name because it is so common, and Patricia after my mom. We will call her Gigi (after my aunt bridgett) for short. We will also honor DH's mom if we have another girl~
We did choose Brant Patrick Eddie for a boy ..we will still use it if we get blessed with a boy someday! :) Brant- Dh's favorite name, Patrick- Dh's family middle name, so irish~ and Eddie after my dad who passed away.

With DD #1, we had a heck of a time picking names. We finally decided on Tallia Marie and Kael William. Tallia and Kael were just names we found that we liked, that weren't terribly popular. Marie managed to cover a number of bases - its my paternal grandma's name, a variation of my maternal grandma's name (Mary), and my MIL's middle name. William is DH's name.
This time, we also had a hard time with a girl's name - we were going to reuse our boy's name, or possibly use Nicholas as a first name. I finally got tired of playing the name game, and we narrowed our choices down to 4: Isabelle, Melia, Abigail, or Natalie. I gave DH the honor of picking her name, as long as it was one of those 4. Her middle name will either be Kathryn or Anne, after my mom, and will depend on the name chosen. Nicholas was the name I wanted, to honor a cousin of mine who passed away a few years ago. I have felt a very strong connection to him throughout this entire pregnancy, and was convinced we were having a boy. Alas...I was surprised at our two ultrasounds that have shown we're having a girl! :)

Kemberlyn Ruth Serene.
Kemberlyn is for my step mom (well, the K. My stepmom is a Katherine). Ruth was my great grandma's first name, my grandma's middle name, my mom's middle name and my middle name, so she is a 5th generation Ruth. Serene is FH's mom's name.
My son is Ethan Joesph. Ethan, because I loved the name (and Ethan Embry), and Joseph was my grandfathers middle name.

We had our names chosen before we found out what we were having.
Our DD will be named Angelina Lee. The "Angelina" is from DH and his dad(both Angelo), and DH's paternal grandmother(Angelina). The "Lee" was a definite. It's a family middle name on my mom's side, myself and all my cousins(except I think 2) have either Le or Lee as a middle name, or Le for a last name(my uncles' kids). My mom's maiden name was Le.
I also liked the names Valentina and Gabrielle/a but I wanted to name her after DH(this was before I knew about his Gma's name, which just sealed the deal:)). I *really* liked Valentina(Tina for short after a cousin that I lost too young), but heard so much grief about how she'd be picked on etc. Gabrielle/a just wouldn't go with Lee...too many Ls there for my taste. My name is Kimberly Lee(notice the LeeLee), I just couldn't do it.
If we'd had/ever have a boy, his name will be either Vincent Lee or Dominic Lee. Both are Italian names, and we love both because we feel they are strong classic names & not too trendy. I'm partial to Dominic because it means "of the Lord" which is a nice match with Angelina "little Angel." And obviously, the "Lee" stays. :)

We had the name for our son chosen before we even know he was a boy! Joseph was for my husband, his father, and his grandfather. So Nathan is the 4th. We wanted to keep the tradition going. Each have their own middle name (except for his grandfather who didn't have a middle name) and we both really liked Nathaniel, which Nathan has as his nickname, so we chose that. It wasn't until much later that we realized we had all their middle names rhyming! His dad's is Samuel, then there's Daniel, and now Nathaniel. :p Cracks us up. Dan and Nathan go by their middle names. Basically Joseph was used to keep the tradition going, but we wanted Nathaniel as his actual name. We figure if Dan could live life being okay with going by his middle name, then so will Nathan. :)

We also decided not to find out the sex of our baby, so had two names picked.
We actually had our boy name picked out before we even got pregnant. DH and I love the movie, Days of Thunder, starring freaky deaky Tom Cruise. In the movie his name was Cole and long before DH and I ever met, we loved that name. Well, when we were dating, we watched the movie on TNT and he said, "I think the name Cole is a pretty cool name!" I was floored cause I adored it too!! :D We also loved the name Colton. We knew that we would be using Allen as a middle name, since that is DH's middle name. So, our boy name was Coleton Allen and we would call him Cole for short.
Our girl name really didn't have a story behind it...we just loved the names. Our girl name was Alexis Lauryn and we would have called her Lexi for short.

*Paige Jamieson*
We chose Paige because we both loved it, it wasn't too trendy and because it sounded beautiful to us :)
Jamieson was my maiden name and since i'm from a family of 3 daughters and we all got married and took our husbands' last names, I wanted to carry on the name somehow. It worked PERFECTLY because we also call her *PJ*.....and of course my dad was beyond thrilled that we carried on the name :)
A lot of the other names we liked started with the letter "M"....but that would have been WAY too much chaos since there are already all these "M" names in our families......
Mark
Mary
Maylie
Marvin
Marcus
Macy

;) ........we are always yelling out the wrong name! LOL.

It's interesting to read all these!
My son's name is Connor Raymond . Raymond is after my grandfather, he passed away right before our wedding, so that name was a given for us as a middle name (had we had a girl, we would have tried to use Rae as the middle).
Anyways, we found out the sex at 19 weeks. A couple of weeks prior to that, we both had a piece of paper and said- Write down your top 5 picks for boy/girl names. I had put Connor on my list, and that was the only one he really liked from my list. (I didn't love any of his picks.). Anyways, from that moment on he just loved the name Connor, wouldn't entertain the thought of anything else. I had my own favorite boy name, but was personally convinced we would have a girl, so I just said- okay, fine- Connor it is. ;) Needless to say, I almost fell off the table when I found out we were having a boy and he got his wish with Connor, I never lived down the "You SAID we could name him Connor!" But yeah, we never got out any baby name books or anything like that.. this was all decided just one night with a random, let's play the name game.
I have dibs on the next baby's name... :p
I'm glad we had a boy though, as had we had a girl, at four months old she might just be called "Baby", as we could not agree in the slightest on a girls name!

We chose Benjamin Rowley for DS. Rowley was DH's fathers middle name and his gmother's maiden name. However for DD we were going to do my side of the family for a middle name but came to a standstill.
Her name will be Lily Kate. Lily because I love it and Kate because we have a Katharine on my side and a Kathryn on his side. We couldn't agree on a spelling so we just shortened it to Kate. Not sure we pleased either side, but oh well! :p

Our son's name is Dean Andrew
We like solid, classic names, but those that aren't super popular. A lot of the boys names that I really like have shortened versions or nicknames that I don't like. Christopher becomes Chris, Daniel Dan, Joseph Joe, etc. Dean pretty much stays Dean :). We also wanted him to have a totally male name, which is getting more and more difficult as more parents take boy's names for their daughters. For example, we liked the name Barrett, but I knew a girl named Barrett once, which kind of ruined it for me. His middle name is the name of a saint, which is important to my husband, and he has the same initials as his daddy.

DS is named Rowan Lanskail. Originally we thought our boy name would be Parker. We found out it was a boy at our 19w u/s and DH says, ah, baby Parker. I looked at the u/s screen and felt like it didn't 'fit.' Then, about a week later I was just about to doze off to sleep, and turned to DH and said "ROWAN!" He loved it. So, I kind of joke that "Rowan" just came to me like a thunderbolt. ;) The middle name is a family name on DH side - the eldest boy has it as a middle name going back 5 generations. Now, I couldn't stand in the way of tradition.
We think we are expecting another boy (should know for sure tomorrow after my u/s), and are having a heck of a time coming up with a new name.

We chose Courtney Elizabeth. It's not a family name, just one we both liked a lot and agreed on. Our last name starts with E, I really wanted to name her Paige Elizabeth, but then her initials would be PEE...not cool.

Eleanor Ruth
Yeah - it is an old lady name because we named her after our grandmothers (Eleanor is my g-ma, Ruth is DH's g-ma).
It was important to us to honor our family members.

Our DS's name will be Alexander Joseph.
DH picked out Alexander just because it's strong and he really liked it. Joseph is the name of my younger brother but also my grandfather who passed away when I was 1. I just love the name anyway!

We don't have kids yet, but names picked for when we do...
Andrew Joseph
(Andrew for the disciple in the Bible and Joseph is my DH's brother's name who passed away many years ago)
Kirsten Blythe
(Kirsten means "The Annointed" and Blythe means "Happy)
OR
Mikayla Grace
(Just because my husband has decided he loves those names).

We aren't TTC yet but we do have names picked out. I'm one of those people who like to plan ahead. :)
A girl will be Elizabeth Michelle. We both like Elizabeth and it has a lot of NN possibilities. My favorite is Ella. Michelle is for my sister that died. My dad and brother also have the name Michael.
A boy will be Aiden Alexander. I swear to God, I liked the name before SATC, but I'm really hoping it won't be so popular by the time we have kids. Alexander is for DH's grandfather. Everyone in the family has some variation of Alexander for their middle name. It's not my favorite, but it's important to dh.

My DS is named David Manning . David is after his grandfather, my FIL who passed away when my DH was 3. He always wanted to honor his dad with the name and it was actually set in stone before I even married him! Fortunately I liked it. Manning is for several reasons:
1) We liked the way it sounded with his first and last names.
2) The first three letters are the same as my maiden name, which otherwise was a little too tongue-twisting to give to a little guy.
3) (last and certainly least) I love the Colts and Peyton Manning is my boy. :o
Our next child's name will honor my dad - his name is Emilio John.
It will either be:
Emilia Abigail - nn Mimi
or
Nathaniel John - nn Nate

We are waiting until birth day to find out the gender, 3 weeks from now! We finally just decided on names for the little one.
Jillian Maureen for a girl. I have loved the name Jillian since I was 13. I always wanted Maeve as the middle name, but DH didn't like it too much. My mom passed away 2 weeks ago and Maureen was one of her favorite names. My dad didn't like it so she never got to use it. So, to honor her, we are going with Jillian Maureen.
Theodore Michael for a boy. My grandpa's name was Theodore, so the first name is for him. And like Maureen, Micheal was my mom's favorite boy's name and she didn't get to use it either. So we are going to use it too.

DD's name is Sarah Elise. Sarah is a name which both DH and I really liked, and it also was my maternal grandmother's name. That was honestly a coincidence, but it made my mother very happy - I never knew my maternal grandmother, she passed before I was born. Elise is in honor of my paternal grandmother, whose name was Elsa. I definitely wanted to do a name after her because she and I were very close. I had wanted Elise to be DD's first name, but I could never persuade DH on that one .

DD#1 is Helena Elizabeth. Helena means "light" and DH and I both loved the meaning. Elizabeth is after my maternal grandmother who was very special to me.
DD#2 is Marisa Carmen. DH and I just simply love the name Marisa and Carmen is after his maternal grandmother.
We wanted names that were easy to say in Spanish and English since his family speaks Spanish.

Conneals- My cousin's name is Jill Maureen! Pretty cool, considering that's an unusual combination. :D

:) Wow, Cohl! My daughter was almost Brielle Morganna but we ended up going with Morganna Brielle. How funny!

My oldest DD is Madison Lynn...she was born in 1999...before Madison got popular. I liked it because I thought it was different and she wouldn't have 12 Madison's in her class! I'm not sure she won't now! :) Her middle name is Lynn is the same as my middle name.
My 2nd DD is Macey Kathryn. Macey again was different. Kathryn was just because it sounded nice with Macey. My Dh's grandmother is named Catherine, my sister is Katherine and my mom is KAthleen, but we didn't pick the name because of them, but we did change the spelling so it was not the same.

DD is Elisabeth Maeve. We did not find out the gender, but both DH and I guessed that she was a girl. Good thing we were right because we had decided on her name months in advance, whereas we were still discussing and debating boys names on the way to the hospital!
We chose Elisabeth because it is a very traditional name, and the common spelling (Elizabeth) is also a Biblical name. It means "consecrated to God." We were not interested in a "trendy" name for our child. We also wanted a multi-syllable name since our last name is one syllable.
Maeve is an Irish name that means "joyful." My mom is Irish, so we chose the name Maeve in celebration of my Irish heritage and also because we loved the meaning, and the fact that it was unique.
Kim You have great taste! :)

We chose Luka Alonso for DS. Luka came about because I've loved the name for a long time (and yes, I picked it up from ER ). The meaning is also quite nice too-- Latin for "light."
Alonso is DH's middle name. It is also FIL's middle name and the name he goes by. We wanted to carry on the tradition.

We're not announcing our final selection, but it is one of these four:
Allison Paige
Meredith Anne

DD1 - Shanell Edith (Shanell is DH's middle name, Edith is my paternal Grandma who I am named after)
DD2- Anna Marie (Anna is DH's paternal Grandma's name, Marie is my sister and maternal Grandma's middle names)
DS1 - Walter Alan (is DH's father's name - I'm not too fond of the name he never knew his father as he passed before he was born, and it's important to him, also Alan is my dad's middle name)
DS2 - Damani Louis (Damani is an African name which DH wants, Louis is after my mom's middle name which is Louise)

We chose Logan for our first son long before we were even married. Logan is the middle name of our friend who helped us get together as a couple. If it weren't for him our DS probably wouldn't be here! Joseph is the middle name of both my father and my brother. Both of whom I admire greatly. I really don't like how popular Logan has gotten though. I was in the ped's office recently and there were 3 Logans in the waiting room at the same time
DS is Abraham Jacob but we call him Avi which is a nickname for the hebrew translation of Abraham (Avraham). Luckily he was a boy as we totally had no good girl options.
ETA - I totally forgot to mention that DS was named after my maternal grandfather who was Abraham Jacob, but went by Jacob.
the first time this thread was around i was busy having a baby. :D
we chose Catalina Michelle. Catalina for my great-aunt and Michelle is my sister's name but we honestly chose it as we were signing the birth certificate in the hospital at the very last minute. i wanted a family name and something that didn't end in an A and there it was.
our boy name would have been Mateo. we didn't know the sex and we hadn't agreed on a middle name for the boy either. no family connection. i just really didn't want a junior and DH really liked it and i didn't hate it.

I already posted over a year ago with DD's name, but I figured I'd add DS's....
His name is Logan Edward - both names that we just happened to like. We picked Logan pretty easily; Edward was because we were running out of time and needed a middle name. ;) The girl name we'd picked out was Katherine Elizabeth or Katherine Isabelle (we didn't know gender til the birthday).
And I second Soulmate's observation that Logan is obscenely popular - the woman in the room next to me in the hospital gave birth to a Logan too and the pediatrician (they happened to use the same practice as we do) was so confused. :)

Our daughter was born 8/11/06 and we went with Lily Morgan. I have to admit that Lily had to grow on me (my first choice was Kayla). However, DH LOVED it and so did everyone else that we mentioned it to. We decided to not go with a "formal" name for Lily because I like the simplicity of name that is not short for anything. Oddly enough though, Morgan was a middle name that we came up with early in the process and came back to it shortly before she was born.
FWIW...if it was a boy we were going to use Ryan Connor
Also...don't know if you know, but there is another thread out there called "baby names you love" that might be of use to anyone trying to get ideas for names:)

the first time this thread was around i was busy having a baby.
me too! ;)
we chose ava aileen. i have loved the name ava for years, before DH and i even got together. my sister was pregnant the year before i was and her girl names were ava and jade. i told her she couldnt use ava b/c it was my name, i was only half kidding but she decided to go with jade. i wasnt that crazy about that name so i begged her to use ava but apparently my nephew was already set on having a sister named baby jade :) (coincidentally my sis looks a little like reese witherspoon so i thought it was fitting that she also have a daughter named ava!)
DH wasnt that thrilled with ava, his first choice was kayla and 2nd was alexandria (so we could call her alex). i ended up with a c-section and when they brought DH to the side to cut the cord the dr. asked him what her name was and he said ava - i breathed a sigh of relief b/c i thought we were going to be arguing about the name in the hospital! the nurses told us how popular ava is now and i was bummed b/c part of the reason i liked it was that i had never heard anyone with a child named that (aside from reese and heather locklear ;) ). now i am sad that there are going to be 10 other ava's in her class:confused:
we went with aileen b/c DH's grandparents are from ireland and we have an irish last name and my middle name is eileen so we thought it sounded nice (my grandparents are from germany and i wanted to honor them in some way, but it was really hard to find a german girls name that DH liked.)
we didnt know the sex so our boy name was jack declan or jack ronan. jack is after DH's dad and the middle names were following the irish thing.

We chose Jack Ryan. Jack was the ONLY boy's name we could agree on and Ryan is DH's middle name. So far we haven't had any problem with people wanting to call him J.R., thank goodness. I was very adament that if we used Jack Ryan he would be called Jack, no JR, Jackie, Jackson, or Jr. I just hope when we try for baby #2 it's not a boy, or else he may remain unnamed for a very long time. Sadly, there just aren't many boy names that I really like.
If we'd had a girl, her name would have been Dallas Kate. Dallas was my maiden name and we both like the timelessness of Kate.
I have Ashley Rose. She has a Great-Great Aunt Rose who is an artist and Ashley is very artistic (of course I didn't know this when she was born, but now it seems fitting). Actually, her name should have been Jillian Carlene (Carlene was her fathers mothers name), but she was born 6 weeks early and the nurse asked me what her name was minutes after she was born (thought she was going to have to be transfered to a hospital with a neo unit) and I just said Ashley Rose.
I also have Abraham III (no middle name) named after his father and grandfather.
AND I have Alec Gerald. Gerald is my dad and he is my daddy's little buddy (even though my dad died 4 years ago, he is very proud to be named after his Papa.)
Now, if either of my boys had been a girl, the name was Alexis Louise. Alexis is my mom's middle name and Louise was my Ex's mother's name (she passed away when he was young). There was a big argument when after I had Hammy and got pregnat again, his sister got pregnant and named her daughter Alexis. I was TICKED! I told my Ex that if we had a girl I was still naming her Alexis and didn't care what any one said. Good thing I had another boy!

We chose Easton Robert.
Easton was just a name hubby thought of, while looking at an archery site. Since we both shoot archery it sounded good.
Robert we chose while I was in labor, we were thinking of M and R names so Easton would have my initials. He got my maiden initial, but it also is hubby's first name, so he got both of our initials.
For my daughter we chose Rebekah Joy - That was a name that I just liked and we wanted it to be a bit different with the spelling. Plus she had Jarett's initials.

We chose Ava Elisabeth for our DD.
My grandmother's name was Ava and she died when I was a baby. I really loved the name and the idea that I'd have some sort of special connection to my grandmother by using that name. DH hated the name and told me it sounded like an old woman's name. I was persistant and wouldn't consider anything else until he finally caved in and accepted it. He picked her middle name - he wanted to name her Elisabeth.
DS is going to be James. DH insisted he get to pick this baby's first name, since I picked Ava's. I like James. I think it's a good, strong name and goes well with Ava. It's also the name of DH's favorite uncle, so it's special to him. I get to pick the middle name and am leaning towards Brian, after my dad.
It's also the name of DH's favorite uncle
that's so cute!

DS is Grant Edward. We wanted something simple yet strong and not overly common. Grant was the one name we kept going back to while we were discussing names while I was pg and Edward is my paternal grandfather's name. We didn't know the sex beforehand and now I don't really remember the girls' names we were thinking about.

Our DD is Piper Jolie. I've always loved the name Piper, and Jolie was my maternal grandmother's maiden name.
I really want to go with Rowan for the next child - boy or girl. Hubby isn't too down with the name at the mo, but I had to lobby REALLY hard to get Piper and now he thinks it is the best name ever. Mommy knows best. :D

Noa Kayann.
Noa because I think it's beautiful and Kayann because Grandmas' middle names are Kay and Ann.

Our daughter is Leah Noelle
Leah is because both my dad and my husband's stepdad are named Lee. Noelle is because I liked it and my middle initial is also N. (Naomi)
For a boy it most likely would have been Ronan Collier. Ronan because hubby liked it and Collier after his brother who passed away 3 yrs ago.

Our DD is named Rebecca Lynn. We always knew we wanted Rebecca for a girl since we first started dating (but we call her "Becca" pretty much exclusively right now - I do like that she'll have options throughout her life, though). Lynn is my middle name. After considering many, many, MANY middle names, we chose Lynn on the way to the hospital. :)
For a boy, we were planning on Daniel Joseph - and still plan to use it if we have a boy in the future. DH's name is David Joseph - though we don't want a junior, we like that the initials would be the same - DH was called "DJ" sometimes when he was little and would like to call a little boy of ours that some day.
DS is Joseph Andrew after his father, Andrew Joseph. DH was named after his Uncle Andy and Grandfather Joe so we wanted to pass on the names without having a Jr.
future names...
Emma Lucille (after DH's paternal Grandmother Emma and my maternal Grandmother Norma Lucille)
Sarah Elizabeth (just like the name Sarah and Elizabeth is my middle name)
probably Benjamin or Alexander for another boy, not family names, we just like them
We almost did this with DS's name, reversed my DH's first and middle. I do not like my DH's first name though- not to mention he has the same first name as his father who I have mixed feelings about.

our son is Javan Christopher
Javan (pronounced Jay-vin) is from Genesis in the bible - he's the grandson of Noah. We found an old journal of mine while i was nesting and in it i had names from the bible that i liked. Javan was one of them and DH instantly loved it so we kept it at the top our list. Javan means 'one of intelligence'
Christopher is my dad's name so it was a nice way to honour my father.
Since DS was a surprise baby - we were really leaning towards naming him after my grandfather who passed away last year. Javan happened to be born on the 1yr anniversary of my grandfather's death. However Steven Javan did not sound as nice. I'm pretty certain if we have another boy we'l use steven, thats of cos if my cousins dont use it! we didnt finalize his name until about 2 weeks before his birth.
we've had our girls name picked out since before we were married and DH refuses to use any other.

We also had a surprise baby, but we have known for years that our first boy would be named Jack after DH's Grandfater and Uncle. They were/are both Jack Charles, but we decided to go with Jack William. William is FIL's middle name. We didn't have a girl's name decided on, and had decided to wait until we saw her if we had had a baby girl. The three girls names we were torn between were Elizabeth, Joy, and Ryan, all with the middle name of Marie. Good thing we had a boy, it was easy!

DS #1 is Collin Todd. Collin was the only name we agreed on. We wanted Irish names b/c they sound good w/our last name. Todd is DH's middle name.
DS#2 will be Brady Newell. I've always loved the name Brady and Newell is my grandfather's middle name.

DD's name is Taylor Denise. We picked Taylor in memory of my nephew Tyler who passed away at the age of 1 month from SIDS. We picked Denise because that is my middle name and also my mother's middle name. :)
Meredith Ryann
Meredith - My maiden name which I miss dearly.
Ryann - DH's middle name, yes, that is how his mom spelled it!

Abigail Grace
Abigail because I have liked it for a long time. Grace because my favorite aunt tried for a girl 3 times and has all boys. She was going to call her girl Grace.
If we are wrong and its a boy, Nicholas Becker. Nicholas because I like it and Becker because it is my grandparents family name since colonial days.

Brady Nelson
Brady was one of the first names we agreed on although we were kind of thinking we'd use it for a girl. I love the way it sounds with our last name. Anyway, we didn't know what we were having and we were literally crossing names off our not-so-narrowed-down list, in the hospital, a little while after he was born. I had seriously stressed out that we didn't have final names chosen and all for nothing ~ those moments together, just the 3 of us, were so priceless.
Nelson because it is DH's middle name. and his father's middle name. oh, and DH and Brady have the same initials, which I think is really nice.

Annabelle Liese My maternal grandmother was name was Mabel Elizabeth. When she was diagnosed with cancer she said she was ok with the diagnosis, but was upset she would never meet my children. We wanted to honor her. I liked how Annabelle had the same "feeling" as Mabel without being quite as dated. We then "googled" it and found out that they have the same derivative. Liese is a frech nickname for Elizabeth.
If we have a boy his name will be Corbin Bernard We both just really like Corbin and Bernard is DH's grandfather's name and DH's middle name. I am petitioning for Corbin Benjamin because they called his grandpa 'Benny' I am not thrilled with Bernard, but it means a lot to DH.

If we have a boy, he will be named after DH: Theodore Koa. Koa in Hawaiian (because DH's family is Hawaiian) means Mark in English (the name of our bestfriend who passed a way a few years ago.)
If we have another boy, I want to name him Mason Floro Jesus (after both of our dads. DH's not too thrilled with Mason, but it's starting to grow on him =)
For girls we have tons of names. And because they are half hawaiian, they are plagued with the island tradition of crazy Hawaiian names LOL! I tried not to make them too complicated.
Mia Mahealani = Mahealani means Night of the full moon
Melia Kamalani= Plumeria blossom; beloved child
Maile Noelani= Maile vines; Mist of Heaven
and jokingly, if we have our last child and she happens to be a girl:
Piper Alohilani U____ = Her initials would spell "pau" which means finished, or done in Hawaiian
LOL, I know we're crazy!

OMG i love it! too funny...
i really wanted to honor our relatives who had passed away, it is so nice to see that so many people do that. however, doris, edna, evadell, herman and rosina were just not fitting with our names :o we were thinking of naming her ava rose but her initials would have been ARM so we decided not to.

We had the hardest time with boy names - so of course we KNEW I was having a boy!
In the end our son did not leave the hospital as "Baby", instead we finally decided on Braeden Michael. Braeden just sounded right (we tested out several) and really fits him. Michael is my dad's name. Also, my DH's middle name is after his maternal grandfather, so we thought that the tradition could live on :) A lot of people questioned our name choice because his initials are BMW - but I kinda like it ;) I also like that there is an "ae" in both names. I'm sure that people think I'm strange though!
We haven't decided if we are going to call him "Brady" for short, but it's a possibility - right now we just call him things like "Lil Monkey" and just "B."

our boys are Thomas Justin (although he's TJ) and William (Will) Joseph. TJ is named partially after dh (he's Thomas Jr) and I didn't want a Thomas III, so we agreed on a middle name that both of us liked. For ds#2, I picked Will because it's a name that I really liked (since dh got the majority of ds#1's name), plus it's my dad and grandfather's first name. The middle name dh picked... just so happens that William Joseph was my grandfather (dh didn't realize this when he told me he wanted Joseph as a middle name), and when dh told me the name he wanted for a middle name, I made him stick with it. :)
Our girl names are still undecided upon, but we do have a few that we like. HOPEFULLY we'll get to use them someday.
It's so fun to see this thread around again, now that my pregnancy is over and Leo Abraham is here! :)
We were discussing so many different names, and truly did not make our final decision until after he was here. (He was 3 weeks early, which didn't help us! :p)
Leo honors my great-grandfather, whose name was Leon. Abraham is my husband's grandfather's name.
It was such a difficult choice, but I am really happy with the decision.
(Funny to see another Leo, dionysia!)
Our girls name would have been Matilde Jane. Matilde was my husband's grandmother, and he really loved her. Jane is after my mom. I think it is still prominently in the running for another child, although we may go with the spelling Matilda to simplify things. We would call her Tilda or Tillie.

James Edward, after DH's father and great-grandfather- it's a tradition in his family that the firstborn son is named after his grandfather.
If James had been a girl, his name would have been Guinevere Rose because we like the way it sounds. :D We're still planning on using that name if we are blessed with a daughter one day.
If we ever have another boy, we like the name Alexander Patrick- once again, just because of how it sounds.
