Has anyone ever made them succesfully? Or at least tasted them?

The party would be for a bunch of 3 & 4 yr olds.

I remember seeing that on WC and I've always wanted to try! Let us know how they turn out if you do make them.

A girl I used to work with would make them for people's birthday. I've never made them but hers always tasted yummy! :)

My mom used to make these! I remember her making them for my 3rd birthday. If you want, I can ask her for the recipe.

My mom used to make these too. I remember taking them to school for a birthday party.

It's actually pretty simple to make.
ICE CREAM CONE CUPCAKES

1 box cake mix
1 ready made frosting
1 lg. box ice cream cups

Make cake mix as directed on box. Arrange cones in a rectangle cake pan. Fill cones 2/3 with cake mix. Bake as directed for cupcakes on cake mix box. Let cool and then frost and decorate.

Thanks amorey, I first saw in on a Paula Deen episode so I have her recipe, a Betty Crocker one, and a Duncan Hines one. I'll bet Martha Stewart has one too. I figured it's foolproof but I don't know if they're as good as they look so a tried and true recipe would help.

I tried searching WC and OMG it's changed. It's awful. Guess that's why we're all here now. I can't believe I was there for years and now it's ruined.

ohmygosh, yes. I heart them!

You can just make any cake mix and pour the batter into ice cream cones (flat bottomed ones, of course). I've had the best luck with standing the cones up in the muffin tins and baking them.

Here is a Martha recipe

Chocolate Cupcake Cones

Makes 14
You can also make twelve traditional cupcakes from this recipe: Line a muffin tin with baking cups, pour in batter, and bake twenty-five minutes.

14 flat-bottom wafer ice-cream cones

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk

5 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped

12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons sugar

1 large egg, lightly beaten

1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1/2 cup heavy cream

1. Heat oven to 350°. Stand cones on an ungreased baking sheet. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set dry ingredients aside.

2. Fill a medium saucepan with water and set over medium heat; bring water to a boil. Reduce heat, and let water simmer. In the metal bowl of an electric mixer, combine milk, 2 1/2 ounces chocolate, and 1 stick butter. Set bowl over simmering water, stirring occasionally, until butter and chocolate have melted. Remove bowl from heat; stir in 1 cup sugar.

3. Transfer bowl to mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Add reserved dry ingredients, and beat until well combined. Add egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla; beat to combine. Pour batter into cones, filling each cone three-quarters full.

4. Transfer baking sheet to oven, and bake until domes form and a cake tester inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven, and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

5. Meanwhile, make the icing: Combine remaining 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar and cream in a heavy saucepan. Set over high heat, and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium; simmer, without stirring, 5 minutes. Remove pan from heat; add remaining 2 1/2 ounces chocolate, stirring until melted. Stir in remaining 4 tablespoons butter and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Chill, stirring occasionally, until icing is cool enough to spread. Using an offset spatula, spread icing over cupcake tops. Serve.

love these. I made them recently for DS's 1st birthday. we had a cake too, but these were a big hit ;)

I used the recipe on the side of the box of ice cream cones - Comet, I think is the brand?

the kids loved them!

Joy cups makes a special holder, too, that you can get from an order form on the box.

They are awesome.

Ok, maybe this is a dumb question, but wouldn't the ice cream cones burn!?

They sure are cute!!

I have made them many times. I always use a cake mix. Be sure to only fill the cups 2/3 full, no more, otherwise the batter will overflow and spill over when baking. Standing them in muffin tins while baking really helps. Bake the same length of time you would bake cupcakes. Cool, and then frost.

No, as long as you use cake cones, which are the flat bottom ones, well, they're made of cake, so they will not burn when baking for the short period of time these require. They bake very quickly.

I haven't tried making them yet but would like to for my dd's bday party. I'm guessing w/ a box cake mix, you can't really go wrong. It's basically cupcakes but in a ice cream cone, right?

These are the ones I have in mind for dd's bday:

I have never made these but, my grandmother used to make them all the time for us. I do know they are never any good the next day, the cone tends to get rubbery and chewy. She always said to make and serve them the same day!

Thanks Nicole! I now a have a plan. I'll go buy the joy cups and mix today, make a test batch this weekend and if they pass inspection, I'll go ahead and order the carrier. I think I'm looking forward to DS's party more than he is.:p

Thanks for the tip. Party isn't until 5pm so I'll have time. I would've done it the night before if I didn't know better though.

Update: It's a go:) I made them last night and DS 1&2 ate the whole cupcake. They usually just lick the frosting off the top of the regular cupcakes. I think I'll make regular cupcakes too for the picky kids. DH thought they were alittle dry so I'll use a supermoist mix next time.

Thanks for all the tips!
