I did a search on this but did not find anything. I have been reading reviews and most prices on the hotels and resorts are around the same price but wanted to find out where was a better location to stay at, North or South Mrytle Beach. I have read there is alot of construction and crime more south. Has anybody been there that can tell me?

We've always stayed in North Myrtle. It seems to be a bit quieter up there. There are some really nice hotels in the north section of Myrtle. If you need any suggestions feel free to ask.:)

I would also recommend either the Northern part of Myrtle Beach or North Myrtle Beach (the city). There are some nicer places south like Litchfield and Debordieu, but they are way south and I think mostly timeshares as opposed to hotels.

KrissyCat7, Yes, I would love some suggestions. Camelot by the Sea is way too expensive though ($700 more for the week then everyone else).
I also received a quote from Dunes Village Resort (no oceanfront just a suite on the side of the building), do you have any information on that one?

Scoutesina, I received a few quotes from hotels for South Mrytle Beach but not from timeshares.

Are you absolutely committed to the Myrtle Beach area? I personally like the Charleston area more if you are willing to go farther south.

Sandie78, I honestly could think of nicer places to go but with the 5 kids voting for a beach vacation in driving distance I was out voted.
Charleston would be fantastic especially since one of my best friends lives there.

The beach itself is nicer in North Myrtle. It's wider and has a more gentle slant (ie waves are not as rough) and the area in general seems geared toward families instead of rowdy beachgoers. I personally vote for North although if you want to go to Broadway at the Beach, it's a longer drive. I recommend looking into condos as opposed to resorts/hotels. Ocean Blvd N has lots that have amenties like lazy rivers and indoor pools. If you are going in peak season you would expect to pay something like $1500 for the week for a 4 bedroom condo. HTH!

MsPeachy, I have been looking all day and the best price for a hotel on the beach is $2000. I rather not rent a condo or a home because it seems there are alot more charges ($50 a week for linens).
I have found two places we are interested in, Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort in South Mrytle Beach and Dunes Village in North Mrytle Beach.
We looked at virginia beach also but not one hotel could give us a big enough space because the suites are all timeshares.

Oh - sorry - my price was based on what my parent's rent their 3br. My family has had two condos in the Windy hIll section of North Myrtle (right across from Barefoot Landing) and I've always found it to be a good location. The rental company they used to use and that people in their building used was Chicora (http://www.mb-vacationrentals.com/windy2.html). I linked to the North Myrtle page - the Waterpointe II is 2 buildings down from theirs and has a nice indoor pool but the Windy Hill Dunes looks really nice too.

PS - The Dunes Village is actually in north Myrtle Beach, not North Myrtle Beach (two different towns)

Good luck!

I guess I better start doing more research. Mrytle Beach is huge and I did not even know there were two. Thanks for the link, I am going to check it out.

We usually stay in North Myrtle, in the Cherry Grove Beach area actually. The beaches there are very nice and there isn't as populated as the areas to the south. It's only a 15 minute drive or so to all the attractions, so you kind of have the best of both worlds.

I did this in May and loved it! It was less crowded and relaxing.

We are actually looking to be centrally located to everything. My stepsons will be 14 & 15 this summer and we would like them to be able to go out on their own for a couple of hours. I do know we will have to drive to a few things but we rather just be able to walk out of our hotel right into the thick of everything. I have heard parking is horrible in peak season and we are planning on going the 1st or 2nd week of July.
We love the idea of a resort with a pool & lazy river but do not want to stay anywhere that has cockroaches. :o
Any suggestions on a nice affordable ocean front hotel that is clean or is that asking too much for Myrtle Beach?

centrally located to everything This means nothing in terms of how MB is laid out. If you're near Broadway at the Beach, you aren't near Barefoot Landing, if you're near the Opry, you aren't anywhere close to the beach though you are somewhat midway located between Broadway and Barefoot but not in a walking sense.

rather just be able to walk out of our hotel right into the thick of everything I'm not sure what you mean by this. In days past, this used to mean, you needed to stay in Myrtle Beach proper as close to the Pavillion as you could get. But that has since been closed and the major attraction areas aren't near the ocean at all. You can still stay relatively close to that area as there are lots of big hotels but there isn't much there except your typical beachy stores & shops. Well, there's the Ripley museum and I think an aquarium but that's it.

You might try here -
Trip Advisor - Things to Do in Myrtle Beach (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g54359-Activities-Myrtle_Beach_South_Carolina.html) Because then you can find hotels close to the attractions you want to be near.

I wanted to second this! To get to the attractions, we had to drive. Even if we had stayed on Mrytle Beach, we would have been on a busier beach, but to go to Barefoot Landing or Broadway on the Beach, both places that would probably be fun for teens, we had to drive.

Ditto.

All the attractions are located pretty far away from the water, so it's basically one or the other. We prefer to stay in an oceanfront house. Then in the evenings, we get out with the kids (when we go, it's for our family reunuion so the adults take turns going out with the kids to give each other a break).

Growing up, my family used to vacation with friends to Surfside Beach (it's just south of Myrtle Beach). It's mostly condos or houses so it's not nearly as crowded as other areas and very "family." I remember the rental prices for a three bedroom beachfront condo with a pool being reasonable. Just a little bit more south is Garden City Beach, which is more hotels.

I've also been to North Myrtle Beach and really liked it there also.

I go to Myrtle about every other month. I live about 45 miles from there. I say stay in North Myrtle even the Murrel's Inlet area, much better restaurants, etc. The drives between all is not much at all.

*Bumping this up*

We are looking at going the end of August/beginning of September. We went last year and cheaped it out with timeshare. :p

This year, we're looking at these two places:
Crescent Keyes: http://www.condolux.net/crescentkeyes/crescentkeyes.html

And

Blue Water Keyes:
http://www.condolux.net/bluewater/blue-water-keyes.html

We really enjoyed our trip last year, but are definitely looking forward to more beach time, less run-around time. Does anyone have any experience with these properties? They have good reviews on Trip Advisor, but I love to hear first-hand!

TIA! :D
