We have also gone down to one nap here. Maggie goes down around 1:30 and sleeps about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. This is working out great for us because our older DD takes her nap around the same time. My DH (who watches them during the day, he works nights) used to call them bicycle pedals- when one was up the other was down, they both couldn't be up or down at the same time! :p

just went to the dr and they confirmed her restless sleep is teething. Said I should give motrin or advil with food/before bed. I really hope it works as she has been an awesome sleeper and I don't want that to change!!

It's been a while since I last posted. DD hasn't been healthy since Jan. She just vomited over me again this morning because she coughed so hard right after I nursed. Her cough just comes and goes over the past few months, and when I think she's healthy, she comes down with something else (like green mucus!).
Anyhow, I think the colds/viruses have just really messed up her system. Daylight savings hasn't helped either, but I find she sometimes won't nap AT ALL all day, and other times will take two 2 hour naps! It's quite peculiar.
She also seems to be working on her 5th tooth, but I can't get her to let me see. Here's a funny (only in hindsight!) story to share. Yesterday, DD was sitting in my lap as I was talking with DH and she just leaned over and BIT my thigh. I yelped so loud and she just laughed. Her teeth actually broke the skin on my thigh and caused some redness (not really bleeding but more than just a superficial scratch). Crazy girl, huh?
Hi all! Long time no "see". :o
Things have been pretty crazy as usual. My older two have been sick twice in one month-once with a stomach bug and now they have a fever/upper repiratory virus. I should really count my blessings because they rarely get sick but this back to back bug thing is brutal! I can probably thank preschool for that. There are SO many cooties going around there lately. Luckily Lila managed to avoid the horrible stomach bug we all (including my DH and I) had. It's pretty miraculous because we were all deathly ill. I'm guessing the breastfeeding played a huge role in that since she probably got the antibodies from me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't end up with the fever/upper respiratory/conjunctivitis thing.
naps-It varies here. She'll still take two naps if we're home and I put her down for them. If we're out and about though she's pretty content with just one. Except for today. She was HORRIBLE. :( I'm praying it's just because she's cutting another tooth or something and she's not getting sick.
words-She's a chatty one. She says "Mama" and "Dada" but usually when she's fussing and wants us. She also says "hello", puts her hand up to her ear, and tilts her head to the side as if she's answering the phone. I wonder where she got that from. :p She says "more" if I'm not shoveling the food in fast enough (if I'm feeding her and she's not feeding herself). She also says, "up" and holds her hands up when she wants to be picked up. Oh yeah, and she's a big fan of "uh oh!" when something falls. Not quite sure if that counts as a word though. ;) Those are the words she actually knows and says on a regular basis (and that are understandable to people besides my DH and I). She's pretty good at repeating words though, too. I think she's going to be an early talker like my other two.
QOTD-Are your kids all teething in the typical order? My kid is a weirdo. She has her upper and lower central incisors, and her lower lateral incisors but she only has one of her upper lateral incisors (the ones that go next to the 2 front teeth). I'm starting to freak out and wonder if that one tooth is ever going to erupt!

Hey Kim & Smiles!
We too battled the nasty stomache bug, first it was me, and then DH a month later. Thankfully, Abbie hasn't had any symptoms.
Words-She says the usual Mommy and Dada. Uh-oh is a big one, and Yummy as well. I swear she was trying to say "Andrea" the past few days. Its really hard for kids to say though, so i think my ears were decieving me!
Teeth-She only has 1 tooth so far. Its her bottom tooth, and the one next to it (The center ones) is about to pop through anyday.
Parrothead
03-23-2007, 08:31 AM
Teeth - DD has 8 teeth. First the 2 bottom central incisors came in. Then, the top right lateral incisor came through (she looked like a serious snaggle-puss!) followed immediately by the other top 3 teeth (2 central incisors and left lateral incisor). She pretty much cut all 4 top teeth in the course of a week, right over Christmas. What a merry Christmas for us. She was a serious Grinch. Then, her bottom right lateral incisor came in around the time of her 9 month check up (I didn't notice it, her ped did; that explained some crankiness) followed a month or so later by her bottom right lateral incisor a few weeks ago.

i dont post here that often, no idea why, sorry. but wanted to post a little update on DD. she is a little over 10 months now. i have started planning her bday party, i just cant believe she's gonna be 1!!!!
here's a pic of her while we were visiting in TX last week
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/kmfroggi/DSC03771.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v225/kmfroggi/DSC03730.jpg
teeth- she has 6, 4 on top and 2 on the bottom. i think a 3rd on the bottom is about to pop thru, though.
words- she says momma, dadda, and babba. but i dont think she associates them with us yet. but when you ask her where mom and dad are she looks right at you. weird. she babbles mostly up a storm, no idea what she's saying, but she's talking to herself or who ever she's looking at. and she is putting the phone to her ear now. its so cute.
walking/crawling- neither yet. she has been slowly getting up on all 4's now, but has no interest in crawling. she's also been pulling up on things a lot more. she walks quite well while holding your hands now. she'd rather be doing that then on all 4's. so we think she may walk first. we'll see.
<b>question</b>- sippy cups. how did you start weening from the bottle to the cup. i have been giving her a cup every once in a while. maybe i should be more consistant with giving it to her. she has gotten some juice/water out of it a couple times, but mostly she chews it. any suggestions for me?
-and when or if you already have, do yo put the crib mattress down? i walked into Kaymens room and i saw her little hand reaching for top rail, trying to pull herself up but she just couldnt quite get the jist of it. is it time, or do i have time before i should move it down.

TGIF!
DD is getting over a cold she has had for a week and a half, along with teething! It has been a fun week or so in the H household. Mom and Dad have been sick too!
Teeth: DD has 6 teeth! We just got our last 2 last week.
Words: She says mama and dada, but I don't know if she really associates them with us.
Crawling / walking: Still crawling up a storm. She has started to cruise a little but I don't think she will be walking for awhile.
Eating: She used to be the best eater but since having a cold and teething she has become the pickiest eater. The only thing she is guarenteed to eat is turkey and yogurt! She would eat yogurt for evey meal if I let her (which for the last week or so I have been). Her new thing is to spit her food out. I think she figured out how to push the food out of her mouth with her tongue and she thinks its the greatest trick. Another trick that I hate is that she will throw her food on the floor. She will look straight at me and throw the food on the floor. I say no and she will laugh and do it again! Meals have not been fun lately!
Birthday: Her birthday party is pretty much planned with the exception of what I am going to serve. We know it will be mexican food I just don't know what exactly yet. I have the papergoods, the centerpieces, the banner made, the invites ready to go out, and a couple outfits choices for her (I can't decide which one yet).
As the one year mark comes I am starting to think about how to wean from BFing and start with milk and sippy cups. She drinks water from a cup now but only a couple oz a day. As of now we BF in the morning when she wakes up, before both naps and then at night before she goes to bed. Anyone know the best way to wean from BFing? How to introduce cups as the main source of liquids? I am clueless on this issue but want to make sure she still gets the nutrients she needs.

urgh. My friend forwarded a note from her sleep consultant regarding napping. The woman said babies are too young to go to one nap a day at this age and that nap deprivation will turn into sleep regression. Well, I read HSHHC last night (I couldn't find it for a week) and he says the same thing. 4 out of the last 5 nights, DD has been unable to wind down for nighttime. It has taken me an hour to get her down on a good night. So, I am going to try 2 naps a day again. Per Weissbluth, I'll only let her sleep 1 hour this morning to protect her afternoon nap. I really hope it works and with any luck, maybe the extra rest will make her a good eater again.
I had no idea sleep would be SO consuming for SO long!!

weaning - I am wondering about this, too. DD LOVES BFing and I swear she'd do it forever if I let her. Right now, we have the same schedule as MMH (wake up, before both naps, before bed). I have NO clue what to do, but I am thinking I'll start next week giving her a sippy of formula before one of her naps. Given she'd BFing about 30min after eating a nice meal of solids, the BFing is definitely recreational. If she doesn't eat, I won't worry about it, but I'll offer her the sippy after her nap or maybe a solid food snack. We'll see how it goes!!!

Snack Ideas - Anyone have any? I feel like I am always giving DD Joe's O's or teething biscuits when we are on the go. Any ideas on good snacks? Particularly ones that are fairly clean (unlike the biscuits!!)
Thanks!

We do Joe's O's for snacks too, or Gerber Puffs. DS loves Veggie Booty too, although it tends to get his hands really messy. Other ideas are snap pea crisps, cheese crumbles....I'd love to hear others' ideas too.

Rice crispies, saltines (if you don't mind the mess)
MMHinCA
03-28-2007, 07:32 PM
We don't usually do a snack but what works for us when we are out and about is: cheerios, goldfish (the baby size), puffs. I always keep these in my bag and will pull them out when she gets fussy if we are shopping, at the market, out to eat.
Anyone have any special tricks, recipes or ways to get your DC to eat vegetables? DD refuses to eat any vegetable I have offered her (corn, peas, carrots, asparagus). She will eat avocado (but isn't that technically a fruit :) ). I can get her to eat some jarred vegetables but those are a hit or miss. She loves muffins (I just made some oat & banana muffins) so I was thinking of finding a recipe for zucchini bread and make some muffins... who knows! :(
Bloomwood
03-28-2007, 08:07 PM
veggie booty, sticks of cheddar cheese/string cheese - you can put it in your insulated bottle bag, cheerios, applesauce
MMH - I'll be watching for some suggestions as well! tonight I got M to eat couscous with sauteed eggplant and yogurt. Oh, and pita with hummus - which she refused the other day. Where is the logic in that one??
MMHinCA
03-28-2007, 08:18 PM
Bloomwood - I tried the pita & hummus tonight and it was a no go... I thought for sure should would like it. She liked hummus last month when my mom gave it to her and I know she loves bread... who knows!
Veggies-I know that some kids will only eat frozen veggies....while they're still frozen. Go figure.
Lila is pretty good with veggies if they're finger foods. I still give her purees from time to time but I usually have to disguise them with some fruit. My other kids went through a stage where they didn't eat veggies so I'd let them dip them in natural, sugar-free applesauce. Doesn't sound very appetizing but it always did the trick. ;)
Bloomwood
03-28-2007, 08:30 PM
MMh - just thought of something. How are you serving the veggies? I gave her broccoli sauteed in garlic, lemon and evoo last week and she ate it. I gave it to her just plain steamed last night and she hated it. Of course, I also gave her yellow squash cooked the same way 2 weeks ago and she ate it, but wouldn't touch it today even though it was prepared exactly the same. So...I dunno, but maybe we have to add different flavors to it...like applesauce (thanks, Kim)?

DS eats everything that we do - except for the stuff that he's not old enough for, like peanuts or honey. Last night he had enchiladas and refried beans, for example.
For snacks, I give him a lot of things. Right now my diaper bag has in it Zwieback toast, dehydrated apples, banana chips, animal crackers, dried apricots, and some cereal bars. (Yeah, I carry a lot of food, but DH has a huge appetite!) He gets most of his fruit from snacking, so I only feed him vegetables at meals.
Pink_Converse
03-30-2007, 01:31 PM
Snacks-DS eats applesauce, Puffs, Baby Goldfish Crackers, broken up All Bran Crackers (he loves those things), Cheerios, cut up cheese, Gerber Graduates Banana cookies, etc.
I want another baby! I know I need/planned to wait until DS was two to TTC but I am really itching for another one. I don't even think I could handle another child until DS is older but this nagging thought just won't go away. Anyone else? I'm suprised I feel this way after the kind of HORRIBLE MS I had but I do. While I was pregnant I seriously though DS would be an only child after that!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend. We are off to OC for the weekend to visit MIL. BIL, FSIL, and other BIL will all be in town too.

PinkConverse, you're definitely not alone. I know I'm not the only one here who's ttc right now. :) Even though I had 41wks of m/s during the pregnancy, a horrendously long labor (2wks) and a DD who's a very high needs baby.

nope. I'd be all about ttc right now if we didn't have a wedding in august. That will be our kick off as I don't want to feel icky while abroad.
No TTC for me yet! I've got my hands plenty full with my 3. ;) I think we'd like to space Lila and #4 around three years apart. Sounds like it's so far away but in my experience it will be here before we know it, so I'm definitely in no rush.

We'll start TTC again next summer, to plan for an early spring '09 baby. If we get pg as quickly the next time, that is!! I am going to be starting a new job in the fall and I'll need to work there for at least one school year before taking maternity leave. So, that is our minimum but we may wait even one more year? I definitely would be TTC again right now if my job situation was different....I've got the fever big time!

Just wanted to give a quick update and also bump us back up. H went to the Dr. today and he's 19 1/2 lbs! He gained 2 lbs in the last two months. I am so glad he's finally gaining some weight. He seems so small to me. He's also getting 3 teeth right now. When they come in he will have a total of 5! We found out today he has eczema :( which I self diagnosed two mo. ago ;) but the Dr. said at that time he did not have it. Well he does! And it's gone from being just a couple of spots on the back of his arms and on his legs to all over his poor little butt. I thought it was some kind of weird diaper rash at first but no. It's eczema of the butt :D Hope you all are doing well.
Have a Happy Easter!

DS popped his 7th tooth today. How many baby teeth do they get? When do they go to the dentist for the first time?
How and when should the transition to whole milk begin? R/Os...How did the transition go for you? Any tips for us newbies?

We still have no teeth! Swollen lumps in front, but no teeth.
I think the 1st trip to dentist doesn't happen till they are 3, unless you have concerns. Though I have read otherwise (age 1) but our dentist told us age 3.
Whole milk is supposed to happen once they are one. I can't believe it is so soon!

I am curious about the whole milk transition also! DD has only had BM so I am curious how we transition to whole milk. Do you do 1/2 and 1/2 and then slowly change the ratio to more whole milk then BM? I am also nervous about the stopping BFing process also... :(

Kyle got 2 more teeth over the weekend, makes 6 total, however this time 1 was on top and 1 on the bottom opposite sides. (3 on top and 3 bottom total). He's been cranky and had problems sleeping in the last couple weeks, but we've been blaming it on the ears...which are bad too! He is being scheduled for tubes within the next couple weeks, we've seen the ENT, just waiting for a slot.
Dentist, visits start around age 3. At least that's what we were told.
Milk, no idea on the BF, we were formula last time and this time. We switched just after 1 yr. Mixed some formula into the milk to start with and then less each time, took about a week to switch over. We also gave up the bottle and went straight to sippy cups at the same time. we gave the sippy cups in the car and he loved having a drink in the car, since he never had bottles there. Worked like a charm to switch to the cup. This time we've already been giving water and such and Kyle already likes them, so I don't really see a problem there, but we'll see with the formula. I'm scared to change too much on him at once, so we'll have to see how the ear stuff is going at that point.

Teeth- we still have 4 here- 2 on top, 2 on bottom.
Dentist- we were told age 3. As a matter of fact my older DD (will be 3 on Monday) just went today for her first dentist visit.
Whole Milk- With my older DD we started transitioning around 13 months. We started 1/4 milk and 3/4 formula and then just gradually increased the milk percentage. I have to say that her tummy took a while to adjust- very yucky diapers for a time. It took us about 4 weeks to get completely on milk. We weren't able to give up bottles until she was about 18 months old- Katie just never did well with sippy cups.
----------------------------
Oh, just wanted to add that we have "walking" here! Maggie took her first steps last Thursday. She can only take about 3 or 4 but I know that leads to complete walking in no time!

I now chat with so many of you on LJ that I rarely make it over to this thread --so I feel like many of your already know this...but...for everyone else:
We're doing just fine. I am planning Gabriel's 1st birthday party (One Fish Two Fish theme) for the 12th of May. He has 8 teeth --and who knows how many are coming in... He is generally sleeping now from 9:45 - 6:00 am. He'll eat almost anything --especially if it is on my plate (he took some lettuce from my salad bowl recently). A few weeks ago, he started walking --and he points at everything. There are a number of words (most hard to make out), but he is talking up a storm. Oh and he now shakes his head no instead of just saying "nah nah nah".

All else is okay in our world. I started a new job at a new org, am having a gallery show for my dad's art (see link to see the stuff (http://posnerart.com) -- or stop over at the gallery itself (http://thecurbartspace.com/) if you'll be in Manhattan April 16th - May 2nd), am launching a website (http://www.andamom.com) to help others (see link again below), and am trying to help my teenage daughter with her social schedule.

WOW for all of the walking!! DD hasn't walked on her own at all, but goes anywhere and everywhere w/ her little pushcart thingy. 8 teetch and I can see those pesky molars peeking through. Sleep has regressed -- she's often up around 2am (hence my posting). 90% of the time she has a dirty diaper so I can't just let her CIO. Ugh.
Thanks for the info on milk. I have no idea how we'll do that. DD never did well w/ a bottle so I stopped even trying around 5 months. I am still BFing (3x/day) and she drinks water from her sippy cup (Avent or Nuby straw cup), but she refuses to drink anything but water from a sippy. Getting her to drink milk could be very interesting.

Hello!
It has been a veeeeeeeeeery long time since I visited, oops. :)
Chloe turned one on March 29, we had a small party for her at Mums the weekend before.
She's my blonde haired blue eyed sweetiepie. She is just gorgeous. :)
She's been crawling for a few months now. She has 7 teeth (4 on top, 3 on bottom). She is starting to pull to stand a lot more this week, she will always pull to her knees but is getting a lot more confident now. She can often be found in a 'downward dog' yoga pose, trying to stand up in the middle of nowhere, heh.
No signs of walking yet.
She loooooooooves to eat, she eats everything we do for the most part. She still has bottles everyday, we're down to the last 8 ounces or so of formula, then she will be on cows milk only. So tomorrow! We've been transitioning her onto it over the last week with no issues. Yay for no more formula!!!
She is a great sleeper, goes down at 8am and sleeps until 7.00am or 7.30am, no night wakings. She has 2 naps, her morning one is short, 45 minutes at the most, in the afternoon she sleeps around 2 hours.
She is a *total* Mummys girl, it's all Mum Mum Mum. :)
She weighs 24 pounds, she is around 70 - 80% for both weight and height. Her noggin is huge and way off the charts. :)
No TTC anytime soon for us!
Congrats April!!!
Here are a couple recent pics.

Wow! So many things going on here!
Lila is doing great. She'll be a year old on May 2nd so I'm in the process of planning her birthday party. The invitations have gone out I just have to finish planning the menu. It should be fun.
Let's see. What's going on in the life of Lila...She just got her 8th tooth. She's going through a fussy period and I have a feeling it has to do with her molars. Poor baby's gums are all swollen. She still nurses several times a day but also really enjoys table foods. No independant walking yet but she cruises and crawls like crazy. She could spend all day walking along the couch. ;) If you try to get her to walk on her own she freaks out and gets down on the floor to crawl. She does stand independantly for up to 10 seconds at a time though so I have a feeling walking is in our near future. Oh joy! She's still got the same vocabulary of words the last time I wrote. Here's a recent pic. It cracks me up. Reminds me of Rosie the Riveter for some reason.

crazycaro-Chloe is adorable!
Parrothead-Sorry about the sleep regression. It can be so darn frustrating. Crack me up about the Aquaphor/Windex. LOL!
nettreefrog-Gabriel is a cutie! I love his birthday party theme!
Standrea-Yay for Abbie walking!
missy-Congrats, Maggie!
flyerwife-Sorry about Kyle's ears. That stinks. Hopefully they'll be better once he gets the tubes.
MMH-That's how I transitioned my other kids. I did about 1/2 BM,1/2 whole milk at first. I thought it might be easier on their tummies and I also thought they'd be more likely to drink it that way since it tasted more familiar.
shortcake-Enjoy that gummy smile. I miss Lila's. :(
Em-I've heard different opinions on when to start with the dentist. My dentist starts seeing kids at age 3. As for teeth, I could be wrong but I think there are 20 primary teeth.
The transition to whole milk is usally around 1 year. I'm not sure if you're BFing or FFing but I always cut my kids whole milk with BM in the beginning. Unfortunately my DD #2 wanted no part in whole milk really. The only way I could get her to drinnk any is if I heated it up. I guess she was so used to having BM warm and straight from the tap that when I gave her cold milk she was like, "What the...?"
Oh, I think we may plan for a spring '09 baby, too. Maybe I'll see ya on the May 2009 thread. ;)
Pink-Yay for the weight gain! MY DD#2 was a skinny little thing (plus she had reflux) and it always made me feel so much better when she gained weight. She was only 19 1/2 lbs at 1 year! She's still on the petite side but she's holding her place on the growth charts at least and is probably in the 25percentile for weight as opposed to the 5th like she was. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing with being in the 5th percentile but she started out as a big baby (90th) so it was a little scary.
marchfamily-Congrats on #3! Three is a lot of fun!!!
MrsU-Glad you survived your trip!
April-Congrats on #3! Like I said to marchfamily, three is definitely a lot of fun! (more work, but lots of fun). ;)
I hear Miss Lila stirring. Better go get her!

Kim - I see the Rosie the Riveter in that pic! But she is seriously adorable.
Caro - Wow, Chloe is one! And sounds like she is all caught up for the most part, that's great.
Parrothead - Sorry about the sleep. THat stinks.
Nettreefrog - LOVE the birthday party theme!
We are not planning a big party. DH will be out of town the weekend before his birthday (which is a monday) so we'll just do a small family thing on Monday and then on the following weekend I'd like to have a few friends over but keep it easy and small.

Shortcake- We are just doing a family party also. Sounds like you guys will have a nice birthday "week".
Kim- Lila's picture is beautiful. I see Rosie also! Too cute.
CrazyCaro- Happy belated birthday to Chloe- she has the same birthday as me! She is so cute!
Nettreefrog- Gabriel is adorable. I have been following along with you busy life on lj. Glad things are going well.
Standrea- hooray on the "walking".
Flyerwife- Sorry Kyle is not feeling well. Hope the tubes help!
Em- I answered above about transitioning to milk. Oh, my DD has 20 teeth at 3 years old. I think that's it until her 8 year (?) molars , 12year (?) molars, and wisdom teeth!
Pink- Glad your little guy is gaining weight. My oldest daughter was only 18lbs at one year. (well, 18lbs some ounces- I don't remember now). My oldest DD also has eczema and I use Cetaphil creme (not lotion).

Milk - Is anyone starting milk before 12 months? DS is just over 11 months, and I'm really tempted to start giving him milk. He's FF right now but is showing less and less interest in formula. (I don't blame him - that stuff tastes nasty!)
I've given him sips of milk out of my glass a few times, and he's eaten several, several things with milk in them and hasn't had any adverse reactions. I kind of feel like the whole 12 months thing is somewhat arbitrary anyway - surely it would be okay to start at 11.5 months, right? (After all, my mom put me on whole milk when I was 3 months old! Not that I would do that, but I turned out okay - and to this day I drink about a gallon of milk a day.)

karlatta - we are starting milk on 4/23 and DD won't be 1 yr until 5/9. I agree it is aribtrary. DD OTOH LOVES her bottle and formula, so we have a few tough days ahead of us!

karlatta I asked a very similar question in the Moms with Pumps thread, post #403. For me, I WOH and I've been BFing/pumping for just over 11 months. My supply has dropped sharply in the past couple of weeks and I won't have enough EBM to send to daycare sometime in the next week or two.
Things to consider about introducing milk before 12 months:
Nutrition/baby size: Formula/BM provides more fat/calories/iron/things babies need than whole milk. Particularly with iron, there's some concern that cow's milk blocks the absorption of iron, and you're losing a source of iron from the formula.
Maturity of baby's digestive track: The proteins in cows milk are harder to digest than those in BM/formula. It's suggested that whole milk is gradually introduced. And, there's still concern with milk sensitivities.
I also wouldn't rely on what our parents did when we were kids. Many things have changed. That said, I just spoke to my ped a few minutes ago and he seemed unconcerned with introducing whole milk early. I'll probably try a few ounces this weekend to test his reaction in case I need to send some to daycare next week.

Does anyone's DC like taking off their clothes? DS has always taken off his socks & shoes. But lately he is trying to remove his clothing too. The other day he was wearing overalls. I put him down for a nap, and when he woke up, he had gotten out of his overalls, had his onesie unsnapped, and his diaper was halfway undone. How?!

Emily - that is hilarious! I bet you were befuddled and cracking up laughing at the same time.
We had a sitter last night that put DD to bed. When DH got her up this morning, he unbuttoned the leg of her pjs to discover that her tube of "butt balm" was stuck in there. I'm not worried that the sitter didn't see it; I totally trust her and can imagine what transpired to have it happen. What does "worry" me is that DD wasn't bothered by it!! How could she sleep 12 straight hours with this thing in there? I think it just cements that she is a goofball.

Bloomwood-We had a babysitter yesterday too-for the first time since 7/26. We were at a wedding about an hour away, so we got a hotel room at the facility in the event that DD was not ok with us being gone...Anyway, Abbie fell off the bed.....
I can't believe our babies are starting to turn 1~!!!
Milk-I think abbie is starting to wean herself. She has nursed 3 times a day for the past 2 days. We aren't planning on starting cows milk though, we'll probably go to soy...Our Peditrician said it was ok as long as it had 4% fat.

As response to this:
- DS is already on heavy duty vitamins, due to some crap he had to go through at birth. So I'm not too worried about his iron absorption at this point. He just had his levels checked and is well within the range where he should be, so as long as we are able to maintain (which we should be able to with the prescriptions he takes), I think he'll be fine.
- Of course I plan to introduce whole milk gradually. I'm not planning to just take away DS's bottle tomorrow and only give him milk or something like that.
- I think you misunderstood me when I gave the example of what my mom did when I was a baby. I used that as an argument that I think the magical 12 months deadline is arbitrary, not as an argument that I should be able to introduce whole milk whenever I want, regardless of the information out there.
I did give him a bottle this morning with 7 ounces of formula and about an ounce of milk. My ped okay'ed us starting with a gradual transition now. He's 11 months, 1 week.

Just checking in...
I am still trying to believe that my DD is going to be one in less then a month! It is really starting to hit me... I can't believe how fast this past year has gone by!
Words: Mama, dada, duh (duck), daw (dog)
Teeth: Still 6 (4 top, 2 bottom), but I think more are coming in
Walking: Not yet, starting to cruise a little.
Eating: Does great with most foods, but still doesn't like vegetables. I need to be more creative on how I get them in her! :)
Milk: I am anxious, nervous, sad to stop BFing and start with whole milk. I love the bond that BFing gives DD and me. I think I will transition out the BFing with naps first and then work on the morning nursing and then the night time nursing. Hopefully it is a somewhat easy transition!
Birthday party: Looks like we will have about 30 people. I have most everything I need. Still have a few little things to do/make/buy. I am excited to see it all come together. Hopefully the day is nice, weather cooperates and everyone has fun!

Our Update:
Words: Dada, Good Dog (Gu daw), yes and no used totally out of context ;), Mama occassionally, Yay!, he tries to say Gracie (our dog's name)
Teeth: 3 on top and two on bottom
Walking: Not even close.
Milk: I can't wait to start milk! I probably will gradually in a couple of weeks.
Sippies: He thinks they are toys and refuses to drink from them. He also refused bottles for the longest time, I guess it will be another one of those things.
Tricks: Waves bye bye, claps and says yay, Its Bitsy Spider motions, mimics faces, especially faces where it looks like you are smelling something or sniffling, fake coughs, clicks tongue, all sorts of other mouth sounds, points and fusses at me shaking his finger like I do to the dog to make him laugh when her barking scares him! Everytime we say dog he shakes his finger and fusses, he thinks that's how you are supposed to talk to dogs...oops!
Favors: Mommy right now. He is all about me!
Birthday: We are inviting 60 people and I hate that it's gotten so out of hand but I figure it will be his only big one until he has friends. Then I can have little friend's parties instead of huge adult blowouts!

Standrea - so sorry about Abbie. Who was watching her? DD has 3 regular sitters all of whom are professional nannies as well as moms. I'm perfectly comfortable leaving her with any of them. One I would even be okay with overnight.
Words: Mama, dada, "Daydee" (Sadie, the dog). Probably more that I can't understand!
Teeth: Still 6 (4 top, 2 bottom), but I think more are coming in
Walking: Not yet, starting to cruise a little.
Eating: Has finally turned a corner and will eat most everything. Had her first margarita pizza for lunch today and cupcakes yesterday
Milk: I'm looking forward to getting through the transition. She's on formula so I'm excited to move to milk. She's also WAY addicted to the bottle, so I want to get it over with.
Birthday: I said I really wasn't into the whole 1st birthday and I'm not, but somehow DD is having 3 parties. The first was her playgroup party yesterday. I planned it all, so I'll post pics in the bday thread. The second will just be DH's mom and dad the w/e of 5/5 and then my parents and 3 other couples on 5/12. That one I am decorating and doing fun stuff but it will be very casual.
Tricks: Waves, claps, kisses, imitates me, does high five. Today she managed to pull herself on to her little ride on toy. I was shocked. Pretty soon she'll be able to push it around.
My favorite: She has become a little cuddle bug. She'll crawl into my lap, rest her head on my shoulder and suck her fingers. She'll do it for a few minutes even when she isn't tired, just needs a little mommy-love. I eat it up.
In general, I am very emotional about her turning 1. It has been such a magical year. I'm sure none of you remember but in the beginning I wrote that I wasn't enjoying motherhood at all. Well, we got past the colic to discover that we have a sweet, precious little angel of a daughter.
I am planning to write her a letter on her birthday and continue to do so for each year. I'm not sure when I'll give them to her, but I want to put to words for her how much I love her and let her keep them for the future.

Hi, everyone!
Words - Daddy, doggy, mama, airplane, duck ("duh"), and quack ("kak-kak")
Teeth - 8 1/2: 4 top, 4 bottom, and 1/2 of her top left molar. Man, those things look like the HURT! The other top molar is beginning to show through her gums, too. More teething fun!
Walking - Loves to walk pushing things, whether they are actual pushtoys meant for that purpose or things like her Learning Table and FP Choo Choo. So funny. Not sure when she'll do it on her own. She cruises around on furniture and occasionally stands w/o support, but hasn't put it all together to take a step on her own.
Eating - Is all about fingerfoods and spoonfeeding herself (if I fill the spoon). Favorites are cheese, broccoli, fruit, and bagels. Now HATES cereals and purees. Glad I stocked up on those...
Milk - I am a bit worried about this. DD is still BFing 3x/day and I love that time together. But, this isn't why I am worried. What DOES worry me is that DD NEVER liked the bottle (took maybe 20 total in her whole life and each one very unwillingly). So, I kinda gave up. I recently tried to give her sippies of formula and she refused them (I also think this is why she refuses cereal now, b'c I make it w/ formula). I am hoping that whole milk will taste & smell less gross than formula and that she'll magically take it from the sippy. Time will tell. I called our ped about this b/c I was worried about he upcoming transition and she said that some kids don't take anything other than water from a sippy until they are weaned from BFing. We'll see. I won't try until after her 1st bday.
Tricks - Claps, waves (sometimes), points out every airplane and helicopter that go by, opens & closes hands as if she's trying to clap 1-handed (DH taught her this b/c he can clap like that; it's SO funny to watch her!), stands unsupported for a few seconds, and gives kisses & hugs. She's also doing the occasional cuddle-bug thing and I just melt every time :)
Birthday - We are up to about 30 and just ordered her cakes & party rentals. DH is cooking so we need to hit Costco for all that stuff, as well as to stock the bar (margaritas!!!). I also need to go to the party store to get some fun things.

Been so long since I checked in! Can't believe we have near-toddlers! I'm feeling so sad to see the "baby" part slipping away, but also really excited to see my little person develop even more of a personality.
Words: mama, dada, Ella (or really, "Eh-yah") for our dog
Teeth: only one (I think another one is going to pop thru in the next day or two). Toothless wonder only got her first tooth a month ago!
Walking: Not yet--but cruising like crazy, pushes a little stand-up car around and "walks" like that. Loves to walk down the hall holding my hands.
Eating: Loves her food! Favorites include any vegetable (esp. broccoli, green peas, etc), plain yogurt, any kind of bread (my little carb addict), loves tex-mex beans, rice, tacos, and enchiladas, ham, turkey, or chicken, beans. Will not even touch any fruit, but likes fruit purees and applesauce. Go figure.
Milk: Looking forward to introducing milk since she has been on formula exclusively for the past three months. Given her a couple of sips of whole milk a few days ago and she seemed to like it.
Sippies/Bottles: This is my major problem! She really won't drink from one at all, and if she does, it is only if I hold it. We have tried a number of different ones, I've removed the valves, and still we are having issues! I'm starting to worry that she won't give up the bottle! She seems to like to drink from a grown-up cup, but, of course, she makes a huge mess and doesn't seem like she gets much liquid. We never give her water or anything other than formula to drink, so maybe that is the problem?
Tricks: Clapping, two-handed waving, screeching for attention, "playing" the piano (she reaches up and plays the keys of our big one), taking things out of hertoy box and putting them back in, climbing, turning pages in her books.
Birthday: It's still in flux (how bad is that?!?). DH was really pushing for a big blow-out party with lots of people, while I wanted smaller. We'll see. (He also wanted a theme of Derby Day).
We just took our first baby-free vacation last week--I hadn't been away from Baby B for more than 10 hours since she was born! We had a great time in Florida for 4 nights/5days, just sunning, eating, relaxing, going out, drinking, being non-parental. She stayed with my mom and barely missed us!
Still hoping to get PG soon! Maybe our beach vacation without little one did the trick! ;)
So happy to read all of the happy updates!

What ideas do you guys have for gifts for DC 1st birthdays? My family is bugging for me ideas and I am clueless what is good for the next stage. Anyone have any ideas?
We're getting her a first birthday plush set by Gund.
I'm going to ask for summer clothes for her and for one of those push bubble lawn mowers. She might not be able to grasp the concept of it this year, but her older sister can push it around for her. Those are the only things I can think of.

Quick fly-by post since it's Friday and things aren't as busy as work!
Words: Pretty much just Dada and Ba ba for bottle, she only says Mama when she's frustrated
Teeth: Still 6 (4 top, 2 bottom)
Walking: Not yet, only stands with support so not yet cruising.
Eating: Loves rice, pasta, vegetables (green beans, sweet peas, carrots, sweet potato, squash, etc!) and the Gerber toddler crackers. Rarely eats her meat (we've tried chicken, turkey, pork, and beef). She doesn't get any dairy until after 12 months given food sensitivities and conservative ped.
Milk: I can't wait to stop pumping. She gets 3 bottles a day at daycare/when she's home with DH or MIL. But we're going to do a super slow transition because of the aforementioned dairy issues.
Birthday party: We're doing family only and haven't even planned it yet. Her birthday is near Mother's Day so we'll have our parents, sibling, and DH's 4 grandparents over. Everyone lives within 45 minutes of our house, so we always have huge family dinners for all the holidays anyway. I love that DD is getting to spend so much time with her great-grandparents!
Gift: Haven't had time to think about this (DH and DD have been sick the past month, DD has pretty much been sick on and off since January). She doesn't have any ride-on toys at home, so I think that might be one idea. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of you say!
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi all!
Words Mama, dada, Ike for our dog Spike, baba for bottle
Teeth 4 on top, 2 on bottom
Walking David loves to walk when we hold his hands. He's also big into walking with his push toys. Cruising is limited to the couch and in his crib.
Eating No complaints here- he eats anything so far that has been given to him. :D
Milk As soon as we are all out of powder, he'll get cows milk.
Sippies/Bottles David is a fan of the Advent sippy bottle. Even holds it on his own without the handles.
Tricks Claps hands, sings with the dog/ radio, waves, hugs, blows kisses, plays patty cake, points to things that he wants and grunts, can count to 5 on his hands (most of the time it's one, two then 5 :D ), high fives, opens/ closes drawers, closes doors (cant quite reach the handle to open them ;) ) and knows how to turn the tv on and off
Birthday Party We'll have a family party. The day after we'll have all his little friends with mommies over for cake in the afternoon with the Rubber Ducky theme (cant wait to post pics!)
Gifts DP got him a swimming pool that came with balls so one can use it with or without water. Grandparents got him clothes and a ride on fire truck. I got him a potty and I'll just put $$ into his bank account since he has basically everything.
We bought David yesterday a bike helmet and today we are going to take him on his 1st bike ride. I'm also picking up a second hand tricycle for him this week, though he might not use it until fall.

Words: Mama, dada, dat (that --usually while pointing), dut (duck), bob (bib), [something like] boon (for balloon), nana (means NO!)
Teeth: 8 (four on top and four on the bottom)
Walking: He's walking everywhere --and looks like a mini-Frankenstein (straight leg walk)
Eating: He loves food --and eats everything. Last night, he had roasted garlic...but has also enjoyed scallions, various cheeses, breads, pasta, lettuce, peas and green beans, carrots, matzoh ball soup (thanks to another mom for the thought), yogurt, potato/sweet potato, etc. (and I really mean whatever we put in front of him)
Milk: While I still BF at night and in the morning, Gabriel is on formula now.
Sippies/Bottles: He won't hold a sippy cup --and seems to dislike them entirely. He will drink from my cup however.
Tricks: Opens everything, high fives, points, is learning patty cake, I think he is starting to notice music, turns off all electronic devices (including the computer), uses the remote and the receiver to raise the volume, pushes his stroller, is starting to throw a ball, understands how car toys works, puts his ball through the basketball hoop (seems like a loop as he keep doing it), tries to play music on his xylophone, imitates everything, etc.
Birthday Party: Red Fish Blue Fish theme on the 12th of May... I need to create the invitations today!
Gifts: I haven't a clue...

Eating anything we put in front of her. she is only funny about eating when she is fussy.

Sippies/Bottles she only gets bottles before bed and 1st thing in the morning. she gets sippys the rest of the day.

Words There is a definite "mama" that means either me, or that he wants something. There are probably other words there too, but I'm too dumb to realize it.
Teeth 2 on top, 3 on bottom, lots of white spots visible through the gums
Walking cruises around on everything, but still drops to the floor to crawl if there's nothing to hold on to. Crawls at lightning speed, with one knee up in the air too - it's pretty funny.
Eating Eats everything! I can't eat anything within his sight without him wanting it too. Yesterday I had to go put my Dr. Pepper away because DS would not stop asking for it.
Milk/Sippies/Bottles Has formula bottles morning and night, and drinks milk or a formula/milk mix in his sippy cup throughout the day.
Tricks LOVES to open and close things - doors, gates, books, anything. Frequently shuts himself in his bedroom or the garage. Can't clap, but if other people are, he waves his arm around and screams. Does high five, peek-a-boo, loves to splash in the bath water.
Birthday Party We don't have our next court hearing until one week before his birthday, so we can't really plan anything in advance. We're going to just have family and do cake and stuff at the house.
Gifts Again, we're waiting on court. If that goes well, we'll be re-decorating a room in our house for DS, so he'll probably get something for in there.

Josh at about 11 months 1 week...
Words mama when he's frustrated, dada maybe
Teeth 2 top, 1 bottom
Walking He took his first steps (3) a few days ago. Stands unassisted for a short time.
Eating Pretty much anything...but not many teeth so we have to be careful! He likes to put huge chunks in his mouth.
Milk Making the transition to milk very un-scientifically. Doesn't seem to be a problem.
Sippies/Bottles Bottles before naps & in the morning and at bedtime, otherwise sippies.
Tricks Claps hands, waves, hugs, opens/ closes cupboards, dances
Birthday Party were having a party at home with a few close friends
Gifts We're getting him big cardboard blocks that look like bricks.

Thanks for the suggestions on the Nuby straw sippies. I'm going to try that. Wonder if part of the issue is that she really doesn't like formula from the sippy b/c it is not how it has been "served" in the past. Maybe milk will be better.
Karlatta--will be thinking of you during the hearings. Must be so hard having everything a little up in the air. Hopefully y'all will get a wonderful birthday present!
B-day gifts: We've gotten B an elevated sandbox/water table from onestepahead. I think she will love it! Also, a little activity cart that she can roll from room to room with block, alphabet magnets, and attached musical instruments. We might also get her a really pretty little piggy bank to start her on the right track!

Words - mama, dada, nana, sis sis (that's sissy- for ker big sister Katie)
Teeth- 4 top, 2 bottom
Walking- Stands alone all the time- takes about 3 steps at a time.
Eating - Anything we put in front of her!
Milk- Need to start transitioning soon.
Sippies/Bottles- Completely on bottles still. She has no interest in sippies yet.
Birthday Party- We are having family over on Saturday.
Gifts- We are getting Maggie a wagon so we can take her and Katie on walks around the neighborhood.

DD started whole milk on Monday. She likes it but it has to be at least room temperature. Right now I have been giving it to her in a bottle at nap time but I really don't want to start a bottle at this point. I am still BFing in the morning when she wakes up and at night before bed. I have to work in the office next week so I will probably continue with the bottle at naps through next week and then stop the bottle and only give her sippy cups.

I just bought a 2nd hand tricycle similar to the Kettler (the Charton) for David. He loves it!
We started potty training/ getting used to sitting on a potty. So far he's done some sort of business on it :D My hopeful goal is that he'll be daytime trained by Christmas. Anyone else starting early?

Potty Training - Nope, haven't started.
Kettlers - From what I can tell, they vary in a few major areas:
1) tire material (air-filled rubber v. hard plastic);
2) whether you can lock the steering (so that the kids can't steer while you are pushing them) or if there is just a limited turning radius to limit flip-overs;3) if it has a handbrake for the pushbar
Also, there more minor differences (if the seatbelt is included, type of push bar, if it folds up, etc.)
Here is a link to a place w/ a huge selection and some good prices:

Mrs U - am also very interested in the potty training. I know that here in the US we go longer in diapers than anyone else, so I'd love to hear your non-US culture experience.
MMH - pricey, yes, but great quality. We expect to use this for #2 as well.
Milk - introduced on Monday as well. I started doing it in ratios to her formula, but I'm guessing I could've just gone whole hog from the start. I think she'd even drink a gin and tonic if it came from her bottle. She just had her first full milk bottle and sucked it down. Also, I made a really silly mistake and bought FAT FREE milk. I was giving her that for 3 days (still mixed with formula) before I realized it. Duh.
Sunday we start Sippy Cup Bootcamp with the goal of being off bottles by 5/5. It is going to be a long week.
I couldn't resist this at Target the other day:
http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/02/70/84/37/0002708437249_500X500.jpg

How many little ones are walking?

As soon as abbie is walking steadily (she's still only taking a few steps ehre and there), we plan to start potty training...Hopefully, it will go well. She does seem to show us some sort of interest in the potty (As much of an interest as a 1 year old can do!).
Happy birthday to all the little ones that are celebrating this week!

Walking-Not even close!

Milk - I didn't do a ratio, I have just given her the whole milk and she seems fine with it as long as it is room temperature and in a bottle. We need to work on the sipping cup (which she is great with when it is with water).
Walking - Not even close. DD LOVES to crawl. She is super speedy and has no desire to walk. She will cruise around our coffee table but that is it.
Potty training - How does one go about potty training a 1 year old? I would have never thought of starting this early so I am curious about those game plans!

I just found received a letter from the management of my building saying that I could not hold the party for Gabriel on the roof. Of course, we already sent out invitations --and these ppl should have come back weeks ago to tell me. I'm going to ask someone in the neighborhood about using a community garden --harupf!
Walking - For around a month now... The running has started too. My husband took him to work yesterday and he made three complete laps around his floor.
Potty training - I haven't researched this yet (and it has been quite awhile since I went through it with my dd) --but I found this article on the subject that I thought was interesting http://www.drgreene.com/21_737.html
On a completely separate note -- Now that our little ones are turning one, I thought it would be fun to see photographs of what they look like at one! So, what do you all think about posting photos of your cutie-pies next month?

Anyone else in teething hell? DS took the first two like a champ but the last four have been bad. He wakes up after a few hours in bed and freaks unless I go sleep on the floor with him in his room. I hope it's his teeth anyway and he's not just turning into a giant brat!;) He's grumpy during the day too. He's got his bottom two teeth and his front two and ones beside those, one of those is the one that he's cutting right now.
We have a new word too, it's Uh-Oh or Uh-Uh according to H! It's really cute!
I gave H 2 oz. of milk and 4 oz. of formula and then another bottle with 3 oz. and 3 oz. of milk and so far so good. Not only am I trying to get his used to milk but cold things too. He hates cold stuff. He likes things room temp. I don't want to have to warm bottles though so hopefully slowly introducing it works.
I'll temporarily post a 1 yr. old pic of H too!

Haven't tried milk yet, probably about a week after he turns 1. He gets tubes on Tuesday, his bday is Friday, a small party on Sunday and then we'll tackle getting off the formula and onto milk. He also has his 1 yr wbv on the 9th, so the timing would be good.
Sippy -- He'll drink alittle water, but not much. I'll try the trick of giving him something to drink in the car and see if he'll hold it and drink. Worked with older one, maybe this one too?
Walking -- not yet, but he's crawling like crazy and pulling up on things, walking with our help and stood yesterday when he didn't realize it.
Pictures -- provided I can figure it out, I'll put one up temporarily.
Potty training -- no way I'm trying that yet, too much going on right now, not that it's not a good idea, I personally just can't add that to the plate at the moment. My older son didn't really give in and train until he wanted to go to camp with his friends when he was 3 1/2, he got it way before then, but really could care less. He's still a handful now about all of it, but that's another story...
That's awful that your place isn't avail!!!

Potty Training Basically I sit him on a pot potty a couple times during the day. If you read the elimination communication thread that helps too. Over here they believe when a child can sit up unassisted by themselves that one should start getting the child accustomed to the potty. So far it has worked and we've praised him when he does something. I just need to eventually find rubber pants over here

Walking David cruises, but still doesnt walk unassisted.
Sippy Cup
We still use Advent bottles with the sippy attachment and disk. We've tried without the disk, but it makes too much mess for my liking.;)
Milk We have 2 more bottles that will have a bit of formula and regular milk, then we are done with formula for good!!:D

OMGosh!! David looks so cute on his potty. Just chillin'.
So...the milk transition isn't going so well. She was FINE and totally onto 100% milk on Friday. Then she got a little bug of some sort, vomited and won't go back. I'm having to start all over with the ratios. She is a smart little cookie. If I do 2 oz milk to 4 oz formula, she fine, but if it is 4 oz milk to 2 oz formula she won't touch her bottle (never mind the sippy!).

Well I haven't been here in forever! It's harder finding time to do anything but lurk when I have an almost toddler who is into everything and an almost 3 year old.
Kyle isn't walking yet but I believe it should be soon. He is one fast crawler though!
I've also started the whole milk transition. I'm also in the process of trying to wean from nursing. I'm starting with the am one first.
Kyle has no problem drinking from a sippy. I think it's b/c his older brother leaves his lying around and Kyle will pick it up and start drinking.
He finally started saying dada the other day. Daddy is thrilled, I of course know it's just easier for them to say that.:D
Parrothead Yay for walking.
Mrs U What a cute picture of David. Love it.
flyerwife Good luck with getting tubes in for Kyle. Hopefully this helps stop the ear infections.
Pink_Converse We don't do well with teething here either. It's funny b/c my oldest never had an issue.

QOTD Sleep Issues-Anyone else having sleep issues? H has started waking up between 12 and 2 am crying to the point that I know he isn't just fussing in his sleep. I have to rock him back to sleep but as soon as I lay him back down he wakes up. I just pat him for a minute and tell him goodnight and leave him to cry for a minute or two and that works. He calms down very quickly. Any idea why a formerly good sleeper would be waking up every night now? He was teething but doesn't seem to be now and he has been on cow's milk for about a week now without any stomach issues or rashes or anything like that. I know this issue pales in comparison to some kid's sleep issues but I am just curious why he's doing this all of the sudden.

Pink - Could it be separation anxiety? I know that is big at this age.
I'm not much help because when DS wakes up crying, we typically ignore him! Usually he goes back down within 15 minutes - if not, I try something else, but it's never very successful and often makes it worse (he is up looking for me after that).
Standrea - 6 am? Hm, could that be her normal waking time? Josh is up between 5 and 6 every day. When he wakes on the earlier side, he seems grumpy, but when he sleeps in to 6 he seems rested and happy, so I think that is what is "normal" for him. Of course, if she was sleeping much later and it's an abrupt change I see that could be different...how about room darkening shades? (Tin foil over the window works too!)
One year ago today (to the hour) I was at Babies R Us, breathing through contractions, so I could get my impending arrival some last minute things. :D How could that possibly have been a year ago? Tonight at 12:10 am (well, I guess technically tomorrow) my baby will officially be 1. It's bittersweet. This past year has been amazing, but my little girl is growing up too darn fast! :(
Pink_No sleep issues here at the moment (knock on wood). I hope they resolve ASAP!

Happy 1st Birthday Lila!
Thanks guys! Ava's actually my almost 5 year old though. It's Lila who just turned one. ;) We appreciate the happy birthday thoughts nonetheless. :D
So Last night was a little emotional for me. I sat at the kitchen table writing Lila a letter. I put it in her baby book and then went upstairs to see her sweet little face before I went to bed. Ooops. I woke her up. So at 12:10 am (the time she as actually born) out of her crib and into our bed she went. It's ok. I decided to break out the camera so I could get pictures at the exact time she was born. It's funny to see the difference a year can make. We cuddled for a bit, nursed a little bit, and then back into her crib she went. It's amazing to think that we coslept for so long because the girl needs her space to sleep now.
Now I have to go get some cleaning done. My parents are coming over tonight to celebrate Lila's real birthday so I need to get some cleaning done. I still have a couple of days to get ready for her party which is Saturday, thank goodness. Have a great day everyone! I'm going to try to stop back later to post a birth/one year pic. :)

Em-How hard are molars for them to get. Did Jack act like it was very painful?
Parrothead
05-03-2007, 11:03 AM
We are at 10 teeth, too! The molars have been pretty rough. They seem to break through in 2 stages. First, the outside portions (nearest the cheeks) break through. That step caused a few nights of multiple wake-ups. Now, she's working on the inner portions (nearest the tongue) which led to her waking up last night.
Em7.31.04
05-03-2007, 02:20 PM
I wouldn't say the molars have been any more difficult than the other teeth, so far. But maybe as they continue coming in, they will be? He's been waking at night lately as they've been coming in, but he's done that with all his teeth so far. He's a drooling machine though - gross!!

Lila thanks you all for the birthday wishes! :) It was a great one. We had dinner and cake with my parents, and then she opened her gifts from DH and I and her sisters. She gets the rest of her loot the day of her party. ;) I'm going crazy trying to prepare for Saturday. We have about 60 people coming, plus 15 kids. Should be total chaos. Such is life having a big family I guess. :p
Congrats, karlatta!

Quick story -- before I go back to actually working. Yesterday, Gabriel's buddy Walker (age 14 months I think) at day care was blocking the door to the play house while Gabriel was trapped inside (this kids had apparently been a bit of bully all day long too). After repeatted requests from the caregivers for Walker to move and whimpers from Gabriel to get our of his way, Gabriel went up to Walker and bit him in the side. Gabriel then walked out. Ugh -- on the one hand, I really hope that Gabriel will not continue to use this biting technique to get by-- on the other hand, I am glad that he stood up to bullying.

I need some advice ladies. I can't get DS to take a sippy still. We have tons of different kinds and he won't take any of them. Should I just pick one and try only that one for a few weeks or keep switching them up til he finds one he likes? He just chews on them or throws them.
QOTD: How much milk are your kids drinking? Do they drink it w/ meals or between? Do they drink a bottle right before bed?

Can't wait to see pics MMH!! Glad it went well.
Pink - no advice on how to get him to take a sippy. Sorry :(
sippy cup/bottle/formula/milk transition update: Well...DD hates milk. She was just getting pissed at me for offering it. I ended up calling the ped who told me to just stop offering it for a week or two. So, we are done with bottles and fully on the sippy, but she isn't drinking milk. I'm giving her extra cheese/yogurt instead. She's getting plenty of water. He said babies need between 16-24 oz of milk/day (or the equivalent dairy in other forms).

Hi guys - I have no time to re-post pictures but I did post some in the 1st birthday thread! Hope you guys can visit them over there!
I am curious about how much milk they should be drinking too. DD nurses when she wakes up then takes to 4-5oz bottles of whole milk at each nap and then nurses when she goes down at night. I have no idea if that is enough. We go to the doctor today for her WBV so I will be asking then.

MMH - Pics look FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As to milk, we just got back from our WBV and our dr. said 20oz of dairy in 24 hours. She said you can assume they get about 5 oz. at BFing sessions. So, it sounds like you guys are in great shape.
We just got back from our 1 year WBV  . DD is 30" long (84th percentile) and weighs 22lbs 4oz (75th percentile). She got 3 shots and was NOT pleased about them. Apparently, all 3 are painful and they can have reactions for the next 1-2 days and then again in 2-3 weeks (mostly from the chicken pox vaccine). Poor little thing!
DD's party this weekend was great. We had about 30 people. DD had a blast and loved her cake :) I have pics, but they are posting HUGE so I have removed them from CC. I didn't want to clutter up our thread!

Pink_Converse - I'm so sorry you're having troubles with the sippies! I wish I had some awesome mommy advice, but I don't. Maybe he's getting confused by the variety being offered? I really have no idea.
Milk Intake: DS has completely given up bottles. I'm not disappointed about that at all. :) He's now getting 4 sippies of milk per day (wake up, lunch, snack, and dinner), a couple of sippies of water (snacks), and usually a sippy of super-diluted juice (usually when he sees me drinking juice and he wants some). I'm hoping it's enough - I'll check with his ped Monday at his WBV.

Oh my goodness, I am sorry for being the worst May Mommy buddy. It was very sweet of you ladies to wish Marlowe a happy birthday, and she says thank you!! This has been a hard, long, but also amazing year!!
Happy Belated Birthday to Kyle, Meghan, Annabelle, David, Lila, Ainsleigh and the March and April babies who share this thread!
Happy Birthday today to Kyle and Samuel!
and Happy Day-Early Birthday to Macey and Ethan and Tyler!
Hope I got everyone! And hope you are having wonderful celebrations of your babies and also yourselves!!! (Did anyone else have flashbacks to this time last year? Like, "wow-- I was on my way to the hospital" or "this time last year I was REALLY sore" :) )
Part of why I haven't been posting is because Marlowe never quite fits the "average baby" mold so it's hard to join the discussion. Do you guys mind if I still throw in my questions and thoughts sometimes? :)
So Marlowe had her WBV yesterday, and she was 30 inches (just fine) but only 19 pounds. The pedi recommended giving her lots of avocado and even to put olive oil IN her baby food!
Her heart is doing well (as of last check in mid-March)! Unfortunately, she has some eating issues (still only pureed, and can just barely do puffs, veggie booty, and as of last night scrambled eggs in tiny pieces) so after an upper GI test came back clean, we are next off to a specialist to see if it's just a gag reflex or texture aversion issue.
Otherwise, all is well. She is very active, has been crawling for a few months and just started standing all on her own last week. It's very fun to watch because she gets SO proud of herself!
Here she is at her birthday on Saturday 5/5:

Do you guys mind if I still throw in my questions and thoughts sometimes?
Of course not!!! Throw in your questions and thoughts all the time, silly! :D
So glad Marlowe is dong well! She's absolutely adorable! As for the weight /eating issue...I have BTDT. It was a huge struggle getting DD#2 to eat until she was probably around 2 years old. Part of her problem was the fact that she had reflux and some food sensitivites, BUT she also had a wicked gag reflex and some texture aversion issues. I know how frustrating it can be. I can't tell you how often I would try feeding her something only to have her gag and vomit it right back up. It was lovely. We did the ol' olive oil in the food trick. My peditrician also recommended Haagen Dazs. ;) Those tricks worked wonders. I also started adding some powdered milk to certain foods. Basically, anything she would eat we'd give to her. Trust me. That wasn't much. She pretty much lived off of yogurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal and chicken cutlets. Unfortunately that wasn't the best diet for her since she had some dairy issues, alas I literally could not got the kid to eat squat so I did what I had to. That's part of the reason why I nursed her until she was 22months. If I had weaned her any earlier she probably would have become emaciated.
Anyway, I'm happy to report that that is all in the past now. She still has some reflux issues at the age of 3 1/2, unfortunately, but she eats like a horse now. :p She's definitely managed to pack on the pounds. There was a time that she was probably in the 5th percentile. Now she's back up to probably the 25th if not more, and holding steady. As long as she's eating and healthy, I don't care what she weighs.
Oh, FWIW, Lila is a pretty lean baby, too. She hasn't been for her WBV yet, but up until now she's been off the charts for her length (>95th percentile) but at her last visit she was I think in the 25-50 percentile for weight. I'm guessing she's lower now. If I had to guess how much she weighs now, I doubt it's more than 20-21 lbs. I'm not stressing over it though because she's a great eater unlike my other DD was. As long as she well nourished I'm not stressing over her weight. Some people are bigger and some people are smaller, ya know?
Hang in there and PM me if you need some support or have any questions!:)

I have a long and lean DC too! DD had her 1 year WBV yesterday and here are her stats:
Weight: 18 lbs 10 oz - (13%tile)
Height: 31 in - (96%tile)
Head: 45.5 cm (I think that is what they measure in) - (64%tile)
Our ped was not concerned at all about her weight.

DD and I are off to Phoenix on Thursday for my brother's law school graduation. It will just be her and me flying alone so I am a little nervous about the experience. She has flown one other time but my DH and both my parents were with me. Does anyone have any advice, recommendations, or suggestions on flying alone with a one year old? Luckily it is only an hour flight, but I am more nervous about parking, shuttle, getting through the airport with just her and me!

Can't believe our babies are turning one!!! B's birthday was Monday, and we had a nice birthday on Sunday night, with all the grandparents and one great-grandparent (she actually has three!, lucky girl!). What a year!
We go four our WBV tomorrow, and I am so curious about where she is height/weight wise. I am REALLY hoping for at least 20 lbs (which may be a miracle--we have a peanut) so we can turn her around. She is OVER sitting backwards!
I just want to send really special birthday wishes to all of the b-day girls and boys! What blessings our little people are through all of the love, laughter, and tears! I am thinking of all of you, and our journey, over the next month!
BTW, we have now started Clomid (50 mg) in attempts for a second. Hoping it will "work" this month.
Best to all! And happy birthday little princes and princesses!
