I have the lovely flakies of dry skin just falling off my forehead/T-zone area lately, and I know it's because of the heat being on during the colder weather. Is there ANYTHING I can use to combat this? I remember getting a facial a while back, and the lady told me when my skin is dry like that to EXFOLIATE--which didn't make sense to me, because that makes it DRIER.

I cleanse with Kiehl's cleansing milk, and moisturize EVERY night with a Shiseido night cream, and it's a pretty rich moisturizer. But still I have the stupid little flakies. I just don't want to see forehead dandruff any more!

I don't find Kiehl's cleansing milk to be moisturizing enough for me in winter, nor their regular cleanser. I just switched back to Aveda All Sensitive for cleanser and I continue to use Kiehl's moisturizer w/ SPF and I have seen vast improvement.

FWIW, I think they say exfoliate b/c it removes the excess skin so that you can moisturize underneath. Moisturizer obviously doesn't help the skin that's already dead, so adding tons won't help as much if you don't slough off the dead skin on top first. I use my face cleanser in the shower, so after I rinse it off I just use a washcloth to kind of scrub my face once and call it good; it does help remove some of the flakey skin. Uh, that is when I remember.

In the winter I use the Kiehl's sodium PCA oil-free facial cream with the Kiehl's 25-SPF oil-free lotion to moisturize during the day and just the first cream at night. Cleanser-wise, I use Lush's Ocean Spray every other day to exfoliate, and Cetaphil on the opposite days. I'm not a fan of the Kiehl's cleansing milk; I've found it to be drying.

same for me! I went through about 100 moisturizers... everything from the least to most expensive, and this is the first winter I haven't had nasty flaky skin on my forehead/cheeks.

I have extremely dry skin. I use Cetaphil body wash and Eucerine lotion.

On my face I use phytomer products. I LOVE the HydraContinue Instant Moisture Cream. It keeps my skin moist all day long but it's not heavy in the least. I use it all summer long as well.

On my body I use Eucerin 10% Urea Emulsion.

vee05 and c'est la vie: Do you use Cetaphil cleanser or moisturizer (or both)? I've recently started using the face wash, but I haven't tried the moisturizer yet.

I also have a very dry forehead, but I have combination skin, so I can't use anything too heavy. I have good luck with products that don't have fragrances or dyes. Right now I use Cetaphil cleanser and Olay sensitive skin moisturizer.

I have found that exfoliating works well for me if I do it once a week and moisturize really well after. It shouldn't make your skin drier to exfoliate. Basically, you're getting rid of the old dead skin and getting moisture to the new skin underneath. Maybe try baking soda to exfoliate--you could mix it in with your cleanser, and it might be less abrasive than some scrubs.

It might also help to use a moisturizing mask once a week. I don't really have one to recommend, though. I used to use Neutrogena Hydrating Facials, which worked really well to get rid of the dry winter skin. However, when I went to buy more, I couldn't find them. They may be discontinued. Maybe another CC'er could recommend a good one to use.

I use the Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, the one that comes in a jar during the winter months, and Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 during the summer.

I have this problem as well. My forehead and cheeks (right near my nose) are the worst.

I've been using Aveda's All Sensitive cleanser (keep it in the shower) and Aveeno's Positively Radiant daily moisturizer. Maybe I should try something thicker...?

Cetaphil is thicker yet it doesn't clog my pores. ;)

I just went to my doctor today for a bad case of what I thought was chapped skin. She seems to think it's eczema, and sent me off to see a derm on Friday. Right now, the only thing that is soothing my face is vitamin e cream, in the cheapie $4 tub from CVS.
