There are a bunch of reality series starting up this month. Shows and dates, just FYI:
Jan 10, Oxygen: Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency
A supermodel pioneer parlays her sharp-tongued infamy into business smarts, which includes whetting the appetite with a sneak preview.
Jan. 16, Fox: American Idol
The talent competition on steroids needn't worry about its second-place showing: Millionaire Ryan Seacrest will soon own all office watercoolers.
Jan. 7, NBC: The Apprentice 6
Power-broker with a colored past heads to sunny Los Angeles, where back-stabbing is also a high art.
Jan. 3, The CW: Beauty and the Geek
"Pygmalion" meets "Survivor" with "Punk'd" overtones, and manages to win kudos for cultural insightfulness.
Jan. 18, TLC: American Chopper
A motorcycle dynasty moves from the Discovery Channel and adds a father-son competition to make its reality more competitive.
Jan. 7, VH1: The Surreal Life: Fame Games
Producing spin-offs comparable to fictional TV, this version reunites 10 former housemates in a cash competition, with host Robin Leach as the crowning irony.
Jan. 7, NBC: Grease: You're the One That I Want
Billing itself as a "television event," the show has "A Chorus Line" edge as it brings Broadway auditions to the people.
Jan. 15, MTV: The Hills
A chunk of drama has already happened off-screen, as LC tries to milk fame longer than her "Laguna Beach" predecessor.
Jan. 11, USA: Nashville Star 5
Another talent competition but with a down-home twang, this season has a Jewel in its mix.
Jan. 8, VH1: I Love New York
Losing out as Flavor Flav's main squeeze wasn't just a near escape for Tiffany Pollard, but a profitable enterprise in "The Bachelorette" tradition.
Jan. 30, MTV: Two-a-Days
The Hoover football team returns to give it the old high school try... but will the new season cover off-sides drama?
Jan. 16, Bravo: The Real Housewives of Orange County
The soapy lives of the rich and not-famous return. And to think we used to see Orange County as the happiest place on Earth.
There's also the Rob & Amber series on Fox Reality 1/11 (check the thread on that show for details).
I'm in for American Idol. Maybe The Apprentice... I guess. I'm getting pretty bored of that one. Are you all planning on watching any of these?
